Joy ride comes up short on both joy and ride Edgefielddaily.com web posted August 13, 2005 HIGHWAY
25 - Friday night
got started with a teen taking a friend's car for a joy ride. A very
short ride and not much joy as it turned out. Around 6:30 pm Edgefield
County Deputies and First Responders were summoned to a single car
accident on Casalina Drive, just off Highway 25.Edgefield Daily.com photo A juvenile had taken a car that belonged to a friend and drove off but did not get very far. Trying to turn onto a side street she lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a tree injuring the driver and a passenger, also a juvenile. Friends of the two ran over to the scene and others drove. Witnesses on the scene stated that the girls got out of the car and went over to another car belonging to a friend and began, “getting a story together". Family members of the driver were on the scene as well as the car’s owner and a rather heated debate began while they two groups surrounded Deputies and a Highway Patrolman. Sgt. Marty English along with Deputies Jimmy Smith and Anthony Rackard quickly dispersed the crowd and brought the scene under control. Edgefield Daily.com photo The two teens were transported to the hospital for further evaluation; their condition was not released at the scene, however both were placed on backboards and complained of neck and back pain. The owner of the car, who did not give his name, and his wife stated they did not have full coverage on the car. “She didn’t even have a license, she knew better than to take off in the car,” said the owner’s wife. Charges were still not available at this writing. Return to Main Page
