Trenton woman dies in single car crash

web posted August 16, 2007
TRENTON – Lynn McCord Byars, 41, of Trenton, became the forth fatality in Edgefield County after a violent one car crash on Highway 121 near Ridge Recycling. 911 received the report of the crash just after 3 pm stating Byars had been ejected onto the roadway during the crash. Edgefield County Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS arrived on the scene a short time later and called for the coroner to be notified.

According to information gathered at the scene Mrs. Byars was driving her Ford Focus southbound on Highway 121 when she ran off the right-hand side of the roadway and overcorrected, sending the car sliding off the northbound lane.

The car hit an embankment and became airborne for at least thirty yards before crashing again and flipping. It is believed that is when Byars was ejected from the car. Officers said they believe she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Speed may have been a factor in the crash.

Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home is said to be in charge of arrangements and can be reached at 803-637-6536 for more information. Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett said Mrs. Byars died of “severe head and body trauma” sustained in the crash and placed the time of death at 3 pm. “She died instantly,” Mr. Burnett said.
