Business
sees 24,000 pounds of stainless steel stolen overnight
web
posted November 20, 2007
TRENTON – The theft
of metals has
continued with one business on the 5000 block of Edgefield Road being
hit twice since Thursday. In the Thursday theft over $200 worth of
copper was taken from the business. When the owner arrived he found a
warehouse door pried open and around eighty pounds of copper missing.
That was nothing compared to the theft that occurred over the weekend
when 28,000 pounds of stainless steel tanks were discovered missing
from the business on Sunday.
However, the most recent theft was not accomplished by a quick theft;
this one took time. Taken from the business were four stainless steel
tanks that measured sixteen feet in height and eleven feet in diameter
weighing approximately 7,000 pounds each. A fifth tank was left at the
scene and it is unknown if the thief or thieves did not have time to
make a return trip or if they were scared away by a passerby.
The value of the tanks were listed at $20,000 each, however the value
as scrap metal would net over $22,000 based on an estimated $.80 a
pound.
It is unknown how the tanks were transported from the location.
Checking other nearby facilities additional stainless steel tanks, or
drums, were found missing at a closed industrial site. No additional
information on that discovery was available Monday.
