Tractor trailer flips on Hyw 121
web posted November 28, 2005

TRENTON – A tractor-trailer rig traveling south on Highway 121 out of Johnston towards Trenton crashed around 10:00 am when the driver lost control of the truck and flipped the rig into the yards of two homes taking out planted trees and shrubs.

The reason for the driver losing control of the truck is unknown at this time. The 72 year old driver was seriously injured and was transported to MCG Trauma Center reports said. Edgefield County Deputy Gladys Mason, who lives in one of the homes where the truck ended up, said the driver had been driving since 1:00 am Monday morning. She said when she and her husband saw it was a tanker truck and had no idea what was being carried they made sure the doors and windows were shut and the air conditioner was off.

"We lived in Graniteville when the train wreck happened," she said, "so we weren't going to take any chances."

It turned out the tanker was empty and was hauling some sort of clay product of by-product. The case is still under investigation and charges are said to be pending the outcome of the investigation.
