Wednesday arrest may solve several recent crimes

web posted November 30, 2006

TRENTON – Edgefield County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man and woman they believe may be linked to several recent burglaries and larcenies in the County. Ricky Dwane Saxon, 31, and Brandi Wilson, 24, of Edgefield are being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center on custody orders. The arrests stem from a contractor riding by a home under construction on the 700 block of Columbia Road and noticed a suspicious vehicle at the job site. The pair drove away from the scene with the contractor following while calling 911.

Edgefield County Deputies and Trenton Police stopped the pair in Trenton at Billy’s Superstore and attempted to identify the two occupants. Inside the 70’s Toyota were several construction items including a compressor, nail guns, saws and other items. Mr. Saxon presented Deputies with an identification card but had no driver’s license. He was placed under arrest at that time for driving without a license. A check of the tag displayed on the car came back to an Oldsmobile in Edgefield and is presumed stolen.

The contractor that spotted the man and assisted in his capture confirmed some of the items in the car were stolen from his job site.

After the arrests Ms. Wilson’s apartment, located at 292 Gary Street, was searched and Deputies and Investigators retrieved more items that fit the description of those reported stolen in other incidents in the Pine Ridge area recently including a radio and a tile saw.

Other evidence collected also could implicate Mr. Saxon with the recent break-ins at County Administrator John Pettigrew’s newly built home and other nearby residences under construction.

Mr. Saxon has an indictment against him in Columbia County for similar thefts and has a trial date of December 4, 2006 before Judge William Fleming. The charges against him in Edgefield County will be filed today at the Detention Center. No court date was available and no bond has been set for Mr. Saxon or Ms. Wilson at this writing.
