Editor's post: So much for catching up on sleep over the weekend. If this keeps up I'm going to need another vacation. I would also like to thank Danny and Linda Tidwell who have worked with me for over six months to find that special item for my lovely bride. You can never go wrong when you go to Tidwell's... just ask my wife.

I just can't let this go without comment.  I am seeing one person after another complain about Alive at 25.  I am absolutely dumbfounded by this reaction.  I have a senior at Strom Thurmond who is a new driver.  When I heard she would be required to take this class, I looked it up on the computer and saw a that fewer teens died as a result of car accidents when compared to teens who did not take the class.  I thought this was a fantastic idea.  Not only will my daughter be shown how to be more aware, but since she will be driving around many other new drivers then she will be safer still if they have to go as well.  Think about this.  I know your child is a perfect driver, but what about all those other teens that speed, pass when they don't have room, run out in front of people, drink alcohol, etc.   Increasing your child's chances of survival by getting them into the class is worth $35.00, isn't it?

RE: "This issue was resolved Thursday with school staff. I was under the impression that certificates were mailed directly to the student's home addresses. I found that the certificates were mailed to the school."

Again, typical government response. The check is in the mail...it was a computer glitch....the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing... we're government we're not paid to think, and on, and on, and on.

When was the first class given-November?  You've been under this impression for how many months?  And by the way, our inquiries were made at the school only to be told they didn't have them.  Left hand, right hand?

Bravo. NOW the certificates are available only after someone has raised 7734! Typical.  Government is reactive instead of proactive. And you wonder why so many Americans don't want government hands on our health care.  Get this.  I go have an MRI at one of dem der guvment run health care facilities.  I'm waiting for the results for a month and then start making inquiries.  Meanwhile, I've had an aneurysm and died.  My family  asks if this could have been detected from the recent MRI.  They are told yes.  Well, my husband just had an MRI last month.  Where are the results?  Oh we thought they were going to be mailed to you.  We've fixed that now, you can go get the results at the medical facility.

P.S.  Good gun control is 10 for 10.  And think about this-we have the freedom to bear arms, yet we never seem to use them when we have issues with our government.  Yet, those that don't have the right to bear arms, e.g., Egypt, Tunisia, Iran, China-Tiananmen Square, etc., march in mass in the streets, rioting, trying to overthrow their governments. And how do those governments respond-tanks against unarmed citizens.  Go figure.

RE: "If this is so important to this instructor and the principle then have  this class during school hours for the whole school and don't charge the $35.00. Just have it out of the goodness of their hearts."

As the instructor, I am contracted by the South Carolina National Safety Council (SCNSC) to facilitate this course. I take no offense to any of the postings...believe me...I understand the frustration. I
teach it off duty (I have a day job). I also teach the course at Aiken Tech and in Greenwood. The cost ($35) is handled by the SCNSC. They have federal grant funds to give scholarships, if requested. The
school receives NO money from this course. Also, for the 10 years I was working at STHS, the Drivers Ed course was not free, there was a fee very similar to the current private drivers ed fees.

One would argue that students are given the "option" of driving and parking on the school campus. Is it a right or a priviledge?
The state would argue that driving is a priviledge not a right. With that they require a license, insurance, proper equipment, taxes on vehicles etc to operate a vehicle. Does that also carry over to driving to school.

Bus transportation is offered. (yes some busses run early and some parents dont like putting their student on a bus, but transportation IS provided if desired).

Now if the parent allows their student to drive to school, then can the be required to follow any policy the school has for a student to park on the campus? (ie parking permit, requirement for driver's training, etc).

And as I understand, students are required (especially seniors) to pay any fees (books loss/damage, uniform loss/damage,  required dues, etc) before they can leave school.
Can this stop a senior from getting their diploma?

Some would argue that their tax dollars pay for the education of students.
Teacher's salaries, administration etc, school building upkeep, etc come from the tax dollars. Any extra (athletics, Band (not class room, but extra curricular, etc) are at the students/parents expense and therefore paid for by them.  Is "driving to school" subject to that?

Can local schools legally charge additional fees for parking, etc that they do.

Pleave out the arguement of whether or not you agree with alledged excess paid to board members, administrator etc in this argument because most school systems charge these fees.

Let us have a conversation on this without mudslinging.

I hate going to the Tax Assessor office myself.  The ladies that work in there have always been nice with the exception of the lady in charge.  I went in with a printed copy of the Kelley Blue Value of my vehicle to help ease my tax burden (Thanks to info provided by Edgefield Daily).  I was told by the lady in charge I had to get a written estimate.  What a pain.....I got the written estimate and guess what???? It was exactly the same as KBB.  But, I guess if you feel like sticking it to someone....why not??  I mean I am the Tax Assessor and all.....

Editor's note: I believe all vehicle taxes are handled at the Auditor's Office, not the Assessor's.

It's tough but we all need to do our part.

The President ordered the cabinet to cut a whopping $100 million from the $3.5 trillion federal budget!

I'm so impressed by this sacrifice that I have decided to do the same thing with our personal budget. I spend about $2000 a month on groceries, medicine, bills, general household expenses, etc., but it's time to get out the budget cutting ax, go line by line through my expenses, and go to work.

I'm going to cut my spending at exactly the same ratio -1/35,000 of my total budget. After doing the math, it looks like instead of spending $2000 a month; I'm going to have to cut that number by six cents!

Yes, I'm going to have to get by with $1999.94, but that's what sacrifice is all about. I'll just have to do without some things, that are luxuries.

Editor's note: There was a vote to do away with the pay, but that is being challenged. At this time, Hoffmann is the only member that does not get paid to serve.

I have 2 things to say:
1. I was in the Tax Assessor's office the other day and the County of Edgefield should be ashamed for letting the Tax Assessor speak to and treat her employees in the manner that she does.  Of course, they let her treat the public the same way so maybe that is their justice in letting a department head treat employees like dirt.
2. The highlight of February 2010 in the newspaper was Alton Brown (the County Administrator) being hired...Hopefully in February 2011 the highlight will be him getting fired!!!

RE:"Editor's note: I believe Driver's Ed is still required."

It is still required, but the school no longer has it as part of the student's curriculum.  Families now have to go to a private business and pay $250-300.  Seems they could have maintained a paid driver's ed teacher for that position if they had not doubled Clinckscales salary.  They could have used the $400,000, the school board has sucked from the coffers over the last 10 years to keep the driver's ed teacher employed.  And, what about the money they had to spend to clean up Courtney's private dump?  They could have used that money too.  The public really needs to request a close look at the books.  The accounting may be correct and the balance sheet balances, but what is necessary spending and what is not is the overall question.  Like Schillit's new office?

Who gets the $35 fee, the Sheriff's department or the school district? (Content removed)

I  do not agree with the Alive @ 25 course being enforced at STHS. If this is a mandated class then have it during school hours and the cost should be free. We all know everyone is not going to pay for this class or attend.  My question is who has the authority to mandate that students take this class or they won't get their diplomas. This is crazy. As a parent I have already spent $20.00 for parking lot pass and $275.00 for driving ed class. Since the school no longer offers the free drivers ed class to students parents have to go to an off school facility for students to take driver's ed class. If the school officials are so concerned for the students  safety then offer the driver's ed class to students as a regular class free of charge as in years past.  Since my child has taken an passed the required drivers ed class and passed the required test to receive his driver's license I do not feel the school has the right to enforce this Saturday class and the $35.00 fee. Who is getting the $35.00 fee anyway? I am so sick of being dollared to death by people that think they have a little authority and think they can mandate things just cause they want to. If this is so important to this instructor and the principle then have this class during school hours for the whole school and don't charge the $35.00. Just have it out of the goodness of their hearts.

RE: "However, Deputy Reel's remarks aren't clear...."

A student driver is a STHS student, with a drivers license, who drives to school, AND parks on campus.

RE: "Am I to understand that the Principal is going to withhold a diploma????"

No.

RE: "On a separate note, it never ceases to amaze me how our tax dollars pay for the schools, the lockers and the parking lot, only to have the school turn around and charge the taxpayer again for their
use."

Request the scholarship...take the class for FREE...AND still get an insurance discount (please see response below).

RE: "My high schooler took the very first class, paid the $35 fee, and has yet to receive any type of certificate of completion, or whatever, to prove to the insurance company the class was taken...."

This issue was resolved Thursday with school staff. I was under the impression that certificates were mailed directly to the student's home addresses. I found that the certificates were mailed to the
school. They have now been informed to issue the original certificates to students next week. If your student has taken the class, and not received the certificate, have them check with the office staff at STHS.

Any further questions, please let me know.

By the way, has anyone composed three positive things Brother Kneece accomplished during his 20 year stint as Head Kum-Bah of Railroad street land. And of course
District 1 has Clown Judge MacMahon to thank for this injustice. But, what would you expect a Democrap Liberal judge to do? Why hasn't one of the

Clown Judges friends or supporters responded to the negative comments lodged against this fine upholder of the law? Surly, Clown MacMahon has one supporter out there is Wandering Mind land? Where are comments from some of Cocaine Jackson's 429 dum-bass supporters? Surly some one must feel their main man is being publicly diminished and thus has the urge to make fingers hit keyboard and brain be engaged with intelligent discourse.

And then there is Chicago mayoral candidate Rahm Emanuel who has the same problem Cocaine Jackson had...proving residency. I bet brother Rham would love to have some input from Clown Judge who would wave the magical wand and BINGO, residency is established in your favor. This run off would be opportune for chief Race Baiter Al Sharpton to make his presence back to his ancestral home county and rally his people to put Cocaine Jackson on a school board where he can assist fellow race baiters Bibbs and Cooks in their quest for improved racism. This is a race about race. District 1 has the choice to put someone of quality into a position where learning, children, money, and morality are some of the main ingredients. Would anyone

Regarding Deputy Reel's (article) yesterday about the "Arrive Alive" course, could someone from the school district or Sonny clarify his posting yesterday regarding how the school is defining "student drivers".  Is the school referring to a "student driver" (e.g. a person currently w/o a license and under instruction) or a "driver who happens to be a student."  This distinction is important with regards to enforcement.  One could take away from Deputy Reel's comment that this a requirement for student drivers who are receiving instruction by school instructors....then, Okay...I could see this requirement.  Or, does the school mean that all students who are drivers need this course. otherwise they won't be issued a parking pass....Okay, I could see that.  However, Deputy Reel's remarks aren't clear, because it begs the question, other then the previously mentioned scenarios, what authority does the principal have to impose additional requirements upon a student who is receiving private instruction and will not be seeking a parking pass?  Am I to understand that the Principal is going to withhold a diploma???? What are the consequences for students who do not attend this mandated course, and by whose authority does the Principal have to mandate this requirement? I am constantly amazed on how the school board and administration will allow anyone to post a policy without coordination and poorly written which only leaves more questions and no answers.  I sincerely hope someone in authority will clarify this policy.    On a separate note, it never ceases to amaze me how our tax dollars pay for the schools, the lockers and the parking lot, only to have the school turn around and charge the taxpayer again for their use.  Additionally, I wish Mr Schillit will leave the parenting to the parents, further encroachment by the "nanny state."  Perhaps he should focus upon "Reading, Writing and Arithmetic."

I LOVED the story on (County Council Vice-chairwoman) Mrs. Blackwell's speech at the (Republican Women's) meeting Monday night. I'm a man and I couldn't agree with her more. She is a breath of fresh air and obviously not afraid to tell it like it is. She's got the right ideas and experience to do what needs to be done to get a handle on all the good old boy giveaway jobs and money that pad the pockets of the connected "boys". Good for her! They might not listen to her but we do. She's dead on right on everything she says. Maybe she can keep the new wimpy chairman in line and get something done. I don't understand why they elected Dean (Campbell) over her as chairman.

Editor's note: The Republican majority did not elect him as the chairman; the Democrats (Norman Dorn and Willie Bright) with the help of Dean Campbell, cast votes to place him as chairman. That is the fact, make of it what you will. Who owes Willie Bright and Norman Dorn and who doesn't for their position?

She mentioned "Ladies Night". I'd suggest the song, "The boys are back in town".

RE: "Alive at 25 Instructor Reminds Parents of Required Class"

Typical government.  Regardless of how great the course is for our students, I think the apprehension about it was because it was MANDATED by the school district or one could not drive.  Such a mandate was somewhat cowardly in that those that implemented the mandate know all too well, it would be a huge inconvenience for some families to provide transportation for their children if they could not drive.

It has become all to common place for the people to resist government mandates, especially, just like this one - you're threatened with punishment if you don't subscribe to the mandate; it costs us taxpayers money-$35 fee; and you don't get anything in return.

My high schooler took the very first class, paid the $35 fee, and has yet to receive any type of certificate of completion, or whatever, to prove to the insurance company the class was taken.  Up until just last week, nothing.  Do you think for one minute an insurance company is going to give you a discounted rate based on a verbal say so of having taken the course?  If you do, you've been smokin' something and probably shouldn't be teaching a driving course.

And what genius got rid of the driver's ed course, only to turn around and mandate something they could have learned in school.  Oh yeah, they couldn't afford a beneficial class, because they had to pay Clinkscales double the salary, so they crossed driver's ed off the school curriculum.

In hindsight, and this is what I recommend parents do now-withhold payment in exchange for a certificate.

Editor's note: I believe Driver's Ed is still required.

I simply do not agree with the Live @ 25 course being enforced by STHS we as parents have to now fork out $275 or better for our children to take the driver's education course before than can even receive their license, I'm not saying that a driver's education course is a bad thing actually I think it's beneficial to our teens. However why after having to pay for the afore mentioned course would STHS ask us to pay an additional $35 for our children to be able to park at the school? We already pay a fee of $20 for a parking permit! Come on people get real. Now if there are students that have not taken the driver's education course for some reason or they are involved in an accident after having taken the state required course then enforce it but otherwise stop trying to get in our pockets for additional monies that the state has already taken!

I have lived in the CSRA for several years, and I have noticed edgefielddaily.com seems to really have a negative opinion of Fox Creek High School. I never see anything written concerning the accomplishments made by the school, teachers or students of FCSH; however, it seems every chance is taken to criticize or discredit it. My son attends the school, by choice, and has for three years. I have been extremely impressed with the school and staff. I also believe using the name of the school in the headlines, when most of the article doesn't even pertain to it, is deceptive.

I would think that the people of Edgefield County would be happy to have Fox Creek as an option and that the local newspaper would be more supportive of anything that could enhance our area.

Editor's note: For the first five years of Edgefield Daily being published, several requests to be provided reports from the school were refused. Last year we quit asking. We do publish the honor rolls, but only because they are provided by the District Office, not Fox Creek. The story did mention Fox Creek not paying their bills for the use of facilities. So, the story does have something to do with the school.

That is also the reason the only other stories read about Fox Creek are "negative". It is because criminal complaints are public information available by the Sheriff's Office. If you want to see more positive coverage, contact the school, not the Wandering Minds.

Taking uninsured cars off the Highways ?

How about your home state South Carolina , will not issue a drivers license to anyone that don't have a Social Security card (illegals)  BUT they can go out buy a vehicle , go to DMV , get a Title in their name , are you ready ? Then go out and Buy insurance in their name on that same vehicle without a Drivers license . If it were you and I , the first thing an Insurance Agent would ask for is ???? Yes Drivers license , check your driving history to determine your rates. Now it really don't matter if they have insurance or not BECAUSE if one of them hits you and has no license then guess what , Insurance don't have to pay , why because that person was breaking a LAW by driving without a License!!

With all this said , Insurance Companies are getting Rich and I'm sure a Politician is getting a nice KICK BACK!

Editor's note: I have no idea when the building will be finished. If I had to guess, maybe April. Building Director Mike Reed, who is running the project, stated last year it would be done by December of last year. The last time I spoke with him about the date he said weather delays held back the construction. As far as the cost: I have no hard figures at this time. I will bet, without hesitation, it will be way over budget. They will try to hide some of the costs as being paid for by the Transportation budget. Either way you slice the pie, those are still tax dollars that were not intended for the new office space. When all is said and done, I will have the cost figures and make them available.

I love the "let's all work together" attitude now. The problem is that the only way the liberals will work together is if the conservatives cower down and let liberals continue in their destructive ways. It doesn't matter what names people call you, what matters is what you stand for. Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing when you look at Congress and this administration these days. I live in Edgefield so I can't vote for her but please let her know I appreciate somebody having the wherewithal to speak openly and then take and answer questions openly and honestly. What a breath of fresh air.

First let’s get this one thing straight.  His (the poster's)  “Ahhhhh. Yawn. Yawn.  Call 911,” was not a statement.  It was an attempt to cover his hypocrisy with nothing.   Basically what I noticed about his post is:  He went from the federal government paying out money to Black women to have babies to the federal government paying out money for Black women to kill their babies.  And I am supporting the birth of Black babies and the death of Black babies.   –Now that makes sense!  And you wanted me to response!  And these post happened because I said I was proud of our Governor and President.  WOW!

Taking uninsured cars off the highway.....

Recently, in the City of Dallas, Texas, they passed an ordinance that if you are pulled over by law enforcement and not able to provide proof of insurance, your car will be towed right away.

Afterwards, to retrieve your car after being impounded, you must show proof of insurance to have your car released. This has made it easy for the City of Dallas to remove uninsured cars that are typically driven by mostly illegals.

Shortly after "No insurance" ordinance was passed, the Dallas impound lots began to fill up quickly and were full after nine days.
Most of the impounded cars were driven by illegals.     Not only must you provide proof of insurance to have your car released, you have to pay for the cost of the tow, a $350 fine, and charged $20 for every day their car is kept in the lot.

I would suggest other cities across the nation to follow what Dallas , Texas is doing. Not only is it getting uninsured drivers off the road, but it is taking away vehicles driven by illegals that have no insurance that might endanger your life. Brings a tear to my eye.     GO    Texas !

Dallas' Solution Get them off the road WITHOUT making them show proof of nationality.

Wonder how the ACLU or the Justice Department will get around this one.

I am quite shocked at the unfounded, malicious comments about Wardlaw Academy.  My child is a student at Wardlaw and can not imagine a better educational environment.  He looks forward to going to school everyday and is excited about learning.  The teachers are some of the most caring and attentive teachers I have ever met.  My child's education is the most important thing for me and Wardlaw offers everything I could possibly ask for and more.

First, I am glad that not just anyone can walk in and go where they please without stopping in the office to identify themselves and their purpose for being there.  I along with several other parents attend every class and school function that we possible can and have never been told that we couldn't.  Parent involvement is highly encouraged.  I read somewhere that children that have parents who participate are much more likely to succeed and do well.

Second, every time I call the school my call is answered in a friendly manner.  If the secretary is not there I have heard Mr. Whitlock answer the phones.  Unless someone is calling after school hours I have never had a problem.  The staff at Wardlaw are some of the most amazing people I have ever met.  They are friendly, professional and most importantly They Care About These Kids.

Mr. Whitlock and his family have been a wonderful addition to the Wardlaw family.  I say family because that's what we are:  A family.  He is here for the simple reason that he cares about the education that our children receive.  He is an educator as well as our headmaster.  He has a teaching degree as well as a business degree, so that kind of tells me that does know a little about what he is doing.  For those of you that say you know nothing about him, go to Wardlaw's website and read about him or simply look him up on the internet.

But I guess that would require a little bit of work and initiative to back up these unfounded rumors.  Two things that we at Wardlaw know a lot about and aren't afraid to do.

How many people subscribe to AT&T DSL?  Now you know they offer several packages for DSL-768kbs, 1.5mbs, 3 mbs, and now 6 mbs.

But how many of you know if you are getting what you paid for?  I recently upgraded and only experience a 46% increase in downstream speed, not the 100% being paid for.  And yes, I realize that in the world of electronics and communications, you're probably never going to get 100%, maybe not even 90%, or even 80%, due to the many variables that affect electronic transmissions.

In calling AT&T I get the same pat answer, Radio Frequency Interference (RFI), bad line filters, modem is bad, etc.  My question is, why at one speed was I getting the service 100% and more, and now that I upgrade, the service is not even close to meeting what is advertised or being sold.

So, my question to the community who had to beg and petition AT&T to provide DSL to us out here, how many are paying for services they are not receiving?

Can you make a check and post your findings so we can petition AT&T to correct their alleged service, or file a formal complaint to the FTC and FCC.

Here's the check:

Your AT&T modem which they provided is probably a 2Wire.  The default IP address is 192.168.1.254.

Open your web browser, and type in the URL address line (where you would normally type a www.XXXXX.com) type this- 192.168.1.254.

It will bring up the modem page.  Look under System and find the download/downstream speed and make note of it.  Then, look at what you are paying for.  If you're not getting close to what your paying for, we're being ripped off and we need to file a complaint.  Your upload/upstream speed will be significantly lower, and always is, and that's really what they don't sell, AND don't tell the general public.  But that's acceptable to most and there's really nothing you can do about that.

They made it sound official but from what (Edgefield Daily) and the (Edgefield) Post Office says it sound more like a scam than a business. the number on my phone said it was from 803-939-9533.

Guess, once again, when one presents fact to strengthen the debate, they turn a blind eye.  They just don't want to face reality.  It's easier to blame others.  Righting a wrong would take work, and when you're used to always taking a handout, guess ya kinda get lazy.

Since you always resort to Godliness to lend credence to what you say, do you recall the slaves in the Bible?  Didn't Moses lead the enslaved Israelites out of Egypt?  And I don't think I have ever heard the Israelis use their enslaved past as an excuse to receive government handouts in perpetuity.  As a matter of fact, since they have shaken their chains, they are one of the more prosperous people in the world!  They are a people with great pride and dignity.  You my friend, have lost yours, and you only have Brother Obama, Brother Jesse Jackson, Brother Al Sharpton, Brother Lou Farrakahn, Brother Clyburn, Brother Wrangle, Brother Bibbs, Brother Dorn, Brother Bright, Sister Sallie, Sister Crenshaw, Sister Clinkscales, etc. to thank.  Keep drinking the KoolAid, but use a straw, it'll last longer.

I think the editor is behind all the crap being posted about Wardlaw because he is a big supporter of Thurmond, Fess up Mr. Editor!!!

Editor's note: My father, Verdy Blackwell, was one of the driving forces and a very substantial contributor to make the school a reality. I attended the school for several years and one of my sisters was among the first graduating classes. As I entered middle school I wanted to be with my friends and swapped over to Johnston Elementary and later attended Strom Thurmond where I graduated in 1980.

As a strong supporter of school choice (and support funding for students from the state and the federal government should follow the child, not the school), I have nothing against Wardlaw or Fox Creek.

Being removed from the school for almost 35 years, I have no idea what takes place at the school nor do I have any idea what is taking place at Fox Creek.

The complaints that make their way into the comment section of the Wandering Minds are out of my control and that is why you never see a comment by the editor in regard to the statements made.

Nice try though to make it all about me.

I'm sure that the individual who continues to post negatives about Wardlaw no doubt has a child attending the school.  Otherwise, why would they take time out of their busy day to post a rant about what's going on at the school?  DO YOU HAVE A CHILD THAT ATTENDS WARDLAW?  If not, please move on to another topic as the school, its faculty and staff, and students do not concern you in any way, shape or fashion.  That's about as simple as I can put it.  If you do have a child attending he school, why don't you try meeting with the faculty and staff in order to affect some change, instead of posting anonymous rants on the Internet.  In addition, my family would certainly be considered one of the "peasants" at Wardlaw, however there's only one major problem with that.  I've never heard my child mention one word about this or have I ever been made to feel as if I was a lower class citizen. You see, I pay the same amount for tuition as Chalmers Carr, Tim Williams, Chris Gossett or any other parent.  Furthermore, if my child has a problem with another student, I not only contact the faculty/staff about the matter but I also contact the offending students parents.  I'd love to see you try that with 90% of the discipline cases in public school.

Rant about Wardlaw all you want.  It's not going to change your lot in life or the fact that someone at the school has "hurt" your feelings.  If you possessed a shred of courage you would simply take up the conversation with the offender, not with an entire institution and do so in a public forum.

When I have signed in, I actually have to list the classroom etc . where I am going-I couldn't just wander around wherever I wanted to go.  As far as the "peasants" at Wardlaw...doesn't the fact that someone would even use that term to describe other families (whether they are in or out of the school) tell you something about the attitude of some of those folks? Remember, percentaqge wise, the Democrat's support of abortion kills more black children than whites.

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid and promote the deaths of your own race. Murder is the killing of the innocent. How does it feel to be supporting murders rather than building up those in the black community?

Here goes BITTER BETTY again.  I don't know what standards being lowered you are talking about, all I've seen is standards being raised.  I don't know any "peasants" that can pay private school tuition AND PUBLIC SCHOOL TAXES.   And as far as "where is all the money coming from", you are really out of touch, it is called the Advancement Fund, and it is mentioned in every weekly newsletter, that can be mailed or emailed to you every Tuesday.  If you don't get it, shame on you, that is your fault for not providing email info or requesting one mailed, they have asked for them.  Or maybe you are not even a parent with children at Wardlaw, which would explain how you don't know about the "Advancement Fund" and what it does.

Our children have attended Wardlaw Academy for several years.  We were very fond of the past Headmaster.  However, he was just holding down the fort until another could be brought in.  He wanted to retire.  He worked hard for a long time and deserved to retire.

We were apprehensive about what the new regime would bring.  For the record, we are absolutely thrilled with the changes that have been made!  No one can just walk in and wander around.  You must stop by the office and get a pass.  This is a fabulous idea.  My husband, nor I have ever been told we couldn't go anywhere in the school that we wished.  All anyone has to do is sign in at the office and get a pass.  This is for the safety of our children.  The carpool line is brilliant.  No, the parents aren't allowed to walk their little darlings into the school and "hang out" until 8:30-9:00 in the mornings anymore.  Now the children are settled and class begins on time.  That's what the children are there for after all.

There will always be disgruntled people, no matter where you go.  The bottom line is, if you do not wish for your child to attend Wardlaw Academy, no one is twisting your arm.  There's a lovely little public school right down the road that you are welcome to send your children to.

Gee, a pecking order at Wardlaw? That is a shock. People with money having more say than those that don't? Gee, that is a shock. Anyone who has had any connection to a private school, a golf club or whatever knows that he who screams loudest, throws around the most money etc. seems to get more privileges. See, that is life and you just have to deal with it. You always have the "choice" to go back to public schools. Personally, after reading about all the problems with Fox Creek, Wardlaw etc. I would think public school might be a good option. You know, if parents take the time to be involved with their children and their education, public schools can serve you just fine. It may not seem as prestigious to have your child in public school,  but they can get a good education if you take advantage of what is there and you take the responsibility for your children.  You cannot put your child in a school and expect the school to do everything for the child. It takes time, involvement and being a good example to raise a good child. The problem is that when someone has "paid" for something, they expect something in return. I guess it depends on what you expect to get.

Funny side note...I am glad the idea of school choice might help train students for the new industry in the Charleston area????? I read that quote this morning from the (D) politician from that area and had a good laugh. I guess if that is what it takes to have people think education is important than so be it. Hasn't it always been important to have well educated and trained students coming out of our education system? I know he was just making a point but I just found the quote amusing.  Gotta keep laughing or we will all go crazy.

Editor's post: Being on the scene of so many crimes, there are some that just make you laugh. During the decontamination of one of the people arrested at the meth lab Thursday night., The man began to scream, cuss, broke free and ran from the tented area naked and handcuffed. He was quickly apprehended and taken back inside the tented area. It turned out he didn't like the cold water coming from the fire hose and the fact it was 45 degrees outside with a slight breeze.

I would have taken a picture from the roadway, but I was laughing too hard.

He did not come back out until he was done (and dressed in a hospital gown), but he pitched no less of a fit during his decontamination.

Maybe the fire trucks could add water heaters so they can make sure suspected criminals being decontaminated after being found at a meth lab in the winter will be comfortable.

Isn't one of the effects of meth that it "heightens" your senses?

It is a good thing he wasn't Tazed when he ran, being all wet, that would have been interesting.

On a side note. I was just thinking (I know, that can be dangerous). If you shot a Tazer into the water, would the fish stung float to the top? And if you were dumb enough to try it in a an aluminum boat, would you be shocked at the results?

Ahhhhh. Yawn. Yawn.  Call 911.  The bleeding heart of a bleeding heart liberal is bleeding all over the place.  What a dichotomy.  What a hypocrisy.

They claim to cherish life and are against the death penalty, yet they approve of abortion.  They rail against the past and stick in our faces the sins of our forefathers and decry the enslavement of their ancestors, yet they hold out their hand for every government handout, only to become beholden to the government, enslaving themselves.

If you look at our history, we as a nation also mistreated the Irish and called them micks, mistreated the Italians and called them wops (Without Papers), and essentially enslaved the Chinese to build our railroad system.  Yet, they have chosen to shake the past and move on to become very viable and vibrant contributors to all societies.

Like Reverend Jesse Jackson, like Reverend Al Shartpton, like Reverend Louis Farrakhan, etc., they wrap themselves in the cloak of religion to add credence to what they spew, feigning they are Godly people.  The Bible teaches that God really wants you to protect the innocent, namely the children, and never has condoned the killing of unborn babies; God teaches people to fish instead of giving them fish;  God teaches tolerance, but these people aren't tolerant-they stick the past in your face every opportunity they can if it means they will get something.  God teaches love, yet they live with this vitriolic hatred in their hearts, passing it on from generation to generation, always being down for the struggle. Never, ever, forgiving.  Graciously for some of them, God will not use their standard of forgiveness when the time comes, nor did He when He gave us His Son.

Remember this. If you live in the past, you will rob yourself of a future.

Re: Wardlaw Academy

I already inquired for you.  I've never encountered a more concerned group of teachers or administrators as what I've witnessed at Wardlaw Academy.  Each and everyone of my daughters teachers go above and beyond to make sure my wife and I are in the "loop" about our child's education.  Weekly emails and parent/teacher conferences that go far beyond anything we ever experienced from our local public schools.  As for parents being welcomed in the school, both my wife and I have always been greeted in a courteous and quick fashion by someone in the office.  As for our Headmaster, he has gone out of his way to make us feel comfortable with the changes that have been made.  Recently our daughter had trouble with a fellow student who had bullied her on a couple of occasions.  One phone call to the Headmaster was all it took.  We met with faculty members the next day and the problem was quickly taken care of.

Surely you do understand that in today's climate, no school can allow individuals to simply walk in off the street and enter the building without calling first or stopping at the office first in order to state their business for being on the school grounds.  I've yet to hear my daughter complain about the cafeteria or lack of utensils.  Judging by the fact that you failed to capitalize a single word in your post, I'd say you're more than likely a young person yourself, simply trying to stir the pot.  Things are just fine at Wardlaw Academy.

You do know that all those people you are out there supporting can't vote legally in the next election (Well, "legally" might be the operative word here) once they are convicted of crimes. As if that matters to you.

You won by about a dozen votes last year. It won't take many of your supporters to be convicted to kick your sorry butt out of office.

Keep pandering to your thugs. Your "base" is running out of potential voters.

How funny that you got snookered by Dean Campbell to get the chair. I guess the deal blew up in your face! Ha ha ha. How did the local commercial go.... you got hosed!

Dumb Dorn was made a fool of for all to see. You actually believed the crap Smeagol fed you to support Campbell and Willie. Who its the idiot now?

Don't twist the knife he put in your back before the vote, it might hurt worse when you pull it out.

Re: "When faced with direct questions one-on-one,there is nothing in the bill that really needs changing..."  I would beg to differ. First of all, none of us really know what is in the bill because few have read it and those who have say it is very complicated and difficult to understand. Too bad our leaders would vote for something they have not read and therefore could not possibly understand.
Most Americans do not support this type of government control of our lives. I think the only ones who do support it are already in a government plan like medicaid or something similar so they think it would work for all. Let's just get more and more people dependent on the government. That is the plan.

If everyone wants this plan, why are so many states currently in court claiming it is unConstitutional? More states are joining this fight, like Ohio. Makes you think! Why were the Democrats thrown out in November? Was it because everyone thinks Obamacare is a good thing? I don't think so!

Don't you find it interesting that Europe is trying to change the type of healthcare that we are moving toward? Could we not learn some lessons from this? Also, it is very interesting that Harry Reid says he will not bring this repeal to the floor of the Senate for a vote. What is he afraid of? All those poor Senators from conservative districts would be on record for voting not to repeal this mess and they would be out of a job in 2012 if they are up for a vote. There are a lot of them in that situation right now.  Harry Reid is protecting them, as he saw what happened to his colleagues in the House that voted for Obamacare in the first place.  Good luck Harry! The American people are not that blind.

Second, you would be proud of Obama even if he was caught doing drugs in the Oval Office. Third, if Obamacare was so wonderful, why were the Democrats run out of office in historic numbers after shoving it down the throats of Americans?

You are correct.  I would not vote for a Republican or Democrat.  I vote for people who I believe will make this world and our state, SC, a better place.  So you do have me on that.  You can see from the energy that Governor Haley has that she will be good for South Carolina.  And being a minority, she doesn’t have the hang-ups that some people carry around with them.  So yeah, she deserves my support.  The sad part about your reply is, when I write, it is always a personal attack at me or OUR PRESIDENT.  I am re-reading Billy Graham’s book, Peace with God.  I would love to send you a copy.  May I have your address?  You may get a better understanding of the world and where you fit in.  Right now, you are constantly fighting windmills.  But yes, I am proud of God’s people.  Neither race nor labels have anything to do with how I feel.  I am free to love ALL even you.  No strings attached.  Have a wonderful day.

PS: You keep going back to the same old statement.  As I said before, “I can’t tell you why some people can know the truth and yet reject it”.  You can better answer that question.  And to be more knowledgeable, watch C-Span, listen to the debates, and then you tell me why?

Editor's note: Please, should I release the personal emails about your positions? Please explain your "Godly" positions while supporting Democrat candidates who think killing your baby is a "right". Explain how you support those who refuse to work getting handouts from those who toil to pay taxes that are taken by force and given to others who do nothing to earn them. Explain how you support those who work having to be drug tested to earn the money you want taken from them and giving it to those who do nothing and fight against them having to pass a similar drug test to get the fruits of others labors.

Explain how the very same programs has resulted in the black community seeing a 72% in single mother births rate.

That's not "racist", those are the facts. We agree that Martin Luther King Jr. had the right ideals. I am following them, why do you refuse to do the same?

i would like to ask for someone other than me to inquire about the commotion going on at wardlaw academy. since they have gotten rid of their old headmaster there has been nothing but compliants and mistreating of children and parents. children have been made to eat with their fingers because their parents have forgotten to pack spoons! parents are no longer allowed or welcome to come into the schools and be an active part of their children's day. i don't know where this guy comes from or what exactly brought him here other than dollars. the school has gotten a facelift but what about the inside. rules have been changed to accomodate those who benefit from them. children have been taken out of classes to move furniture and keeping the teachers from being able to have class because all students aren't there. The children are sometimes left in the cafeteria unattended. what happens if a child chokes? who's the one to rescue. when you call the school no one evers answers. so what's the job of the secretary?

RE: "According to the SC code of Laws Driving Under Suspension Third offense carries a mandatory minimum of ninety days of incarceration."

Now you know all too well that Casey Jones who's drivin' that train, high on cocaine Nathaniel Jackson, won't ever be convicted, and will not serve any time no matter how many offenses he has.  Have you not seen how the justice system works in this country anymore?  The laws are designed to protect the criminals in an effort not to hurt their feelings, or be blamed of being a racist in this case.

Case in point- a Subway store employee in Charlotte several days ago shot and killed one would be robber, and wounded the other.  The one that was wounded had been arrested for armed robbery three times since October 2010, and he was still walking the streets?  Great that the Subway employee was a good shot, but bad that he didn't kill the one that had a rap sheet five feet long.  His compatriot wasn't so lucky-guess he was still on OJT.

Case in point-the nut job in Arizona that killed six and wounded 13, one being Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.  Why was that nut job walking the streets?  He's been on the Pima County Law Enforcement radar since 2007, and ironically, way before Sarah Palin was even nominated for the VP position, and to our wonderfully articulate and knowledgeable James Clyburn, the nut job was on the radar well before the new Congress started reading the Constitution out loud in chambers.

Speaking of which, Clyburn's still walking the streets as an elected official-doesn't he have ethics violation issues?  And look at Charlie Rangle, NY (D), he walked the streets for years.

As for Nate. Don't be surprised by the outcome.  Next you'll have Bro Jimmy Bibbs, Sister Sallie, and Super Crenshaw calling for a security detail because of the public scrutiny and they are afraid.  Remember, they will play the victim card.

Yet the thug Black Panthers were allowed to stand outside the polling booth with clubs in Philadelphia-and got away with it!

Since the system has an obvious double standard-you better get out and serve justice at the ballot box!!!!!!!!

House Votes to Repeal Affordable Care Act 245-189
By karoli
After two days of debate which mostly felt like a replay of the mind-numbing debate we watched in 2009 and 2010, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act. All of the Republicans were joined by 4 3 Democrats (Ross, Boren, McIntyre) (List here). Here are some of the provisions already in effect which they voted to repeal:

Excluding children under age 19 with pre-existing conditions
Lifting lifetime and annual limits on benefits paid. No longer can a price be put on someone's life.
Allowing young adults to remain on their parents' policies.
Closing the Medicare Part D donut hole for seniors

Editor's note: Funny how you left out the $2 TRILLION cost of ObamaCare. In case you have not been paying attention, our debt is at or exceeds our GDP. Just how fast do you want the US to go bankrupt?

Prince William and Kate Middleton are planning a royal wedding April 2011. Prince William personally told the wedding planners to strike the Obama's from the guest list.  He stated, "He did not want Michelle Obama trying to pull her center of attention ploy trying to upstage Kate on Kate's wedding day".  Sources reveal that William states, "She may run Obama, but she doesn't run him or England ".  The Democrats and Obama would like to play the race card as they have done so many times in America, but it is difficult when other black heads of states are invited to the wedding and will be warmly received.

Now, what is the future King of England's reasons for snubbing the Obama's to the world and making them a laughing stock?  It has nothing to do with America beyond being so stupid as to elect such low class imperfection to the office of President and First Lady.  The decisions that they make can and will affect the world. Secondly, Michelle called his mother, Diana, an over-sexed clothes horse and further stated that she, Michelle, was more popular than Diana ever was.  Thirdly, Michelle Obama showed her butt at every major social function endeavoring to be the Queen in the lime light. In other words, just a lack of class.  Fourthly, the Queen Mother, William's grand mother, also has her reasons.   Obama refused to bow to her but a few days later bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia and Michelle manhandled her by becoming too familiar by putting her arm around her.  The Queen only shakes hands with gloves on. That is the tradition and it is still honored by the Royals.  The Queen said to her staff, "Never allow that woman to be in the same room with me again" and she meant every word of it.  The gifts from Obama and Michelle were both tacky and in poor taste. It is all a matter of class.  In addition, the Queen Mother supported Prince William in his decision due to the fact that the word is out about the lavish booze parties at the White House, the expensive vacations and state visits that cost the American tax payers millions of dollars un-necessarily when the American people need the resources. We here at True American can't decide if it is just low class, no class, or all that has just been mentioned.

The Obama's are desperately trying to make it a slight against America. Every past Head of State has always been invited. This is not a state function and William is not yet a Sovereign. It is just a multi-million dollar private wedding and the Obama's have been royally snubbed by the British Royals; not America, just the present classless leaders.

The True American!

I wanted to make a special thanks to one of our area schools, but wanted to start with my story.  My 24 year old husband of 7 years was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident in October, leaving me and my two children (4 and 6) alone.  It left us with a lot to deal with. On top of that, my husband's family and friends broke into our home and stole everything that we owned (even almost all clothes and dishes) on the day of the funeral while I was out to dinner with my Mom. Throughout this time period, my family suffered a major impact and did not have much help at all.  I have been trying to raise money since the accident to finish paying for his funeral and to buy him a headstone.  I even have a raffle that I plan on having with some decent things to raffle off.  I just cant find a place inside to hold a benefit dinner and have the raffle. (really havent had any help with that either). I have $60 worth of TGI Fridays gift certificates and $42 worth of tanning salon gift certificates just for starters.  Anyway, with having no other help in the holiday season, Mr. Marchant at MES gave Fox Creek my children's names for the Santa's Helpers program.  Mrs. Cowart, who runs Santa's Helpers called me and asked some questions, and come time for Christmas, the helpers done an awsome job.  Without Santa's Helpers and Fox Creek High school, my children would not have had the Christmas that they had and I am very thankful for the help that they gave me....I would just like to say thanks to Fox Creek for their thoughts and donations.

The Healthcare bill is being discussed this week and will be voted on before the week is out.  The amazing thing about this discussion is-everybody like the bill.  When faced with direct questions one-on-one, there is nothing in the bill that really needs changing.  The opponent’s position is – “the federal governments give us, each state, the money and we will handle healthcare”.  The problem with this logic is - “You have had years to address this problem as a state and only a few did it.  The state of Massachusetts handled their healthcare problems and did not hold the federal government hostage.   So what are they doing in Washington this week in the House of Representatives?      They are “Putting on a show for people who don’t take the time to seek the truth.”  So enjoy the show, it will end before Monday.

On a pleasant note, “Didn’t our President look and sound good the other day at his press conference”.  Did you notice that he didn’t put the blame on Palin or the tea party?   He placed the blame where it belonged, on the one with the gun.   And did you see the inauguration of our Governor.  “Didn’t she look good last Wednesday”?    Boy, I am proud of President Obama and Governor Nikki Haley.  It makes me proud to be an American and a South Carolinian.

RE: "Government officials are open for criticism – of that let us be clear. But let’s question their plans, strategy and decisions and leave the “grade school” antics in grade school where they belong."

Well, if we do as you suggest and question their plans, strategy, and decisions, then you could be sued for defamation, be accused of being a racist, be accused of being uncivil, be accused of being an extreme right winger, and on, and on, and on.

You see, what you say is true, but is only unilateral.  "We the People" agree to disagree and pleasure to have open civil debate.  However, the long standing, but failing tactic of the left (because people are catching on), is when all else fails and you can not support your argument with facts - PLAY THE RACE CARD!; PLAY THE RIGHT WING CARD!; PLAY THE INCIVILITY CARD! PLAY THE VICTIM CARD!

Your argument has merit - to a point.  It's true we should stick to the facts and not bring in any extemporaneous allegations and falsehoods, but, when their back is against the wall, they will resort to anything - like a caged rat, or race baiter!  And they will even try to flush you out by saying that anyone who posts on this site is hiding behind the anonymity of this site and is a coward.  That's all just a tactic to draw you into the open so they can isolate you and make you the focus, target you, freeze you, all the while diverting the spotlight from THEIR actions and agenda.

Believe me, I know people who post on this site, and they would absolutely have no compunction in saying to the face of those they post about, but when you play their game, you have to play by their rules, use their own tactics against them!  They hate that because they are mind-numbed robots that do not know how to counter attack because they follow a script and can not think on their own.

They are up against the wall, they know it, and you are seeing first hand what they will resort to.  They have no scruples, no moral compass, no defense, and this is the result.  Genia Blackwell is Edgefield County's "Sarah Palin."  They hate her and Palin because of what they stand for, and they are threatened.  But she, like Palin, refuses to back down, and actually gains strength because of what she is exposing.  They hate that, and the result, is the temper tantrum.  It's absolutely laughable to watch these people.

Remember, don't get caught up in their web of deceit - the call for civility is only one-sided and it is nothing more than another attempt to silence the people.  They can't kill our constitution so they flavor it with other superfluous words such as "civility".  We really are winning back America - you just have to sit back and watch how they react to know if you're on the right track.

Some people don't like the blood sport - but in war, civil, or outright armed conflict, things tend to get messy, and peace loving Americans rarely have the stomach to endure the fight.  Endure this fight.  Names don't hurt, but the far left policies will, if we do not continue to speak our minds or support the leaders that stand up and take the arrows.  Remember, this great nation was built on the brass ones of a few, and throughout history, has continued to exist because of the brass ones of a few.  What they say about Genia is despicable, but she knows that, and she knows that comes with the territory.  She'll rise above it, and if we all watch, she will make us all stronger.  We'll win.  They have awakened the beast-America.

Remember, unless of course your are a resultant product of a Crenshaw type school system-Khrushchev said as he hammered the podium with his shoe, "You will fall from within."  Don't think so.  They disintegrated almost two decades ago.  Why?  Because their system was a failed system, proven time and time again, it is an absolute failure.  Freedom reigns.

Let’s just call it the “social fallout” of living in a free society that is able to say what it wants when it wants.

But often it doesn’t make the “free” part of it any prettier at times when people hide behind their computer screens and lob anonymous bile at people who live and work within their community.

Government officials are open for criticism – of that let us be clear. But let’s question their plans, strategy and decisions and leave the “grade school” antics in grade school where they belong. I personally know Mrs. Blackwell to be a kind, caring, gracious and intelligent woman worthy of her position. Likewise, Mr. Campbell has proven time and again to be a man who cares about his community and who lives up to the utmost standards in professional behavior.

Thus, I for one will not stand quietly by and have them to be called names like they are bathroom stall fodder. They are not. They are upstanding citizens who are deserving of respect for the time and energy they pour into this county.

Certain things which have been said of both individuals have no business in the public discourse. And unlike many who post here, I do not care for or require the anonymity most would seek. I ask posters to think about their comments before they post. One never knows who the next “target” of the public comment might be – a neighbor, a friend, relative or yourself. Isn't it interesting that civility is only something the right needs to show? Our buddy James Clyburn is pushing for the fairness doctrine. What is fair in his mind? The poster who responded to a previous post concerning 'students leaving Edgefield Eounty Schools if Cocaine Jackson is elected' is obviously a supporter of Jackson. Any intelligent person should be able to answer these two questions... How can you honestly support and endorse this person all the while knowing their criminal background and lifestyle? If Cocaine Jackson were WHITE, who would you vote for?

First of all poster, God may be colorblind, but I am not ,neither is this county and neither are you. If you say you are colorblind, then you fool only yourself. From your posting, it reads as if you support the election of Jackson, recognize the plight of the downtrodden minority and want US to get over it. You are racially bias, because you would rather a person of Jackson's status be elected than someone better qualified, because that person is not a "minority". You obviously support race not qualifications. Which equates to the potential election of a known scumbag (who happens to be a "minority") into a position where that known scumbag has direct input to the educational administration of Edgefield County school children.

You want a scumbag such as Jackson to mentor school children? If your answer is 'yes', you are a racist. In your heart, you want us White people to suck it up and get over it and to accept the emergence of scumbag Jackson into a position where he is obviously under qualified, but is the right color for ignorant voters who only see color and nothing else.

You refer to the title of Mr. when referring to Cocaine Jackson when that title is not worthy of a person who lies about their residency, sells cocaine, serves time in prison and is one of your NAACP thugs who wants to collaborate with Brother Bibbs and Sister Sallie to further denigrate our school system.
Finally, an honest answer to this Cocaine Jackson debacle can best be answered by  the following questions... "Would Jesus want Coacine Jackson mentoring impressionable students?" "Would Martin Luther King endorse Cocaine Jackson?" If you can not answer these two questions honestly, then go stick you head back into the sand where you will fine Brother Bibbs and Sister Sallie. Please don't
respond by lecturing us about forgiveness and so forth, because that ain't gonna fly in defense of Cocaine Jackson.

( I was told that the principal at JET did not get to work on Thursday untl around 1:30 yet everyone else had to be there at 9:00.)  No one in their right mind would choose to have someone like Nathaniel Jackson serve in any seat concerning children.  Yet his deeds do not matter to those people.  What matters is that he is black.  Blacks are taking over Edgfield County Schools and the schools are becoming undesirable for us to put our white children in due to all the children have to contend with while there.

Isn't that calling the kettle, um, ah, ah, a neutrally hued object?  Funny, you decry racism and that others should get over it, but the very people you elect or support based solely on race, have done you more harm than the "racists" you so blindly accuse.  Look at that bum Clyburn-sure he has assisted you in getting whatever handout you can get; look at bum James Bibbs who use his position to ensure you get the welfare "you're entitled to";  look at Sallie Cooks, doing it fo da chidren-ensuring you get every handout program you can;  look at Crenshaw getting very federal grant so you can have an"education" handed out to you, but in essence are nothing more than baby sitting and free meal programs;  and let's look at your claim to be of God-Reverend Al Sharpton has fought hard for your civil rights, yet walks around in $1000 suits, eats $100/pound steak, and wines and dines in the finest restaurants; and Reverend Jesse Jackson has fought hard fo eby ting you gots, and how many children has he fathered out of wedlock, and is a man of God?  Not one of these have given you anything other than an expectation for a hand out.  They have stolen your pride, they have raped you of your dignity, and yes, you are not a slave to the white master, but to the black master.  Look at each and everyone of them and what they have, and now look at what you have.  They have used you as a stepping stone and care less of you receiving an improved life-and you know what, they know you're stupid, ignorant, and gullible enough to accept it and fight for them.  And when they move up and on, you are no better off, your sons and daughters are no better off, you are in fact still a slave to them, their type of government handout programs.  And now you want a fine, fine pillar of society like Cocaine Jackson to represent your race at the table.  He will fight for you, and we will continue to be an antagonist, play the race card every chance he can, and he'll show the white man.  Show him what?  And for what?  A measly $50's a month?  That's funny how cheaply the devil can buy someone's soul.  Not only Nathaniel Jackson's, but yours.  That's pretty pathetic.  And you too hide behind being a Godly person, invoking His name when it is convenient as a cover to solicit pity and some sort of authentication to your screed.  You will be judged, and you're right-God is colorblind, but he less forgiving of hypocrites and deceivers.

So go right on and do what you got to do, because another student is waiting for that spot. Get over the racial issue, and come back down to Earth. God is colorblind, please remember this.Thank you.

Since I don't live in Edgefield County anymore, I try to keep up with the Wandering Minds about once a week.  Just wanted to give my opinion on a couple of items.  First, in regard to your arch nemesis Mr. Rainsford.  I agree that his doings are as crooked as a snake, especially in regards to delinquent taxes.  He is hurting an already poor county and its chances of advancing economically.  However, his personal life (as screwed up as it is), should be left out of the papers.  He still has family in the county and out of respect to them, it's best leaving personal matters off the Internet.  Second, its pretty clear that you are a hardcore supporter of the Tea Party.  I know you love some Sarah Palin, but is she really the best representative for the Republican party?  As a life long conservative, I can get on board with the beliefs of the Tea Party, but it often scares away many independents.  The Tea Party has taken big strides in regaining seats in the House, but to take over the Senate and eventually, the White House, we need someone who can reach across the aisle and snag the moderate Democrats (like Brother Barry did in 08).  I mean, really, I can agree with the rhetoric of David Allen Coe, but do we really want him leading our country??

Editor's note: Personally I do not blindly support a person as they will always let you down. I support ideals and holding elected officials to their constitutional duties. There is no "gray" area in that regard. Freedom, self-reliance, and a free market made our nation the envy of the world. Politicians messing around where they had no business doing so caused the problems we face.

A wise man once told me, "If you screw around with something long enough you will break it." I think the politicians have proven that to be true... especially in the last few years.

And the funny thing is the truck keeps going around the area two or three times. Hey “mare” Livingston, is limb pick-up more important than rotting garbage? Are your priorities that screwed up????? they did not pick up trash today, they don’t work Saturday, and they are off Monday! I think Livingston is sometimes immune as to what goes on.

Is it correct that the school board only meets once per month now and at $50.00 each per meeting? Is this all they get, or is this in addition to the regular "salary" they get each month for being on the board? Also, what happened to the Nate Jackson DUS charges? What were these charges for?

Editor's note: Jackson still faces a jury trial on his driving under suspension 3rd offense charge sometime this year. If convicted, he faces madatory time behind bars. I have not had time to review the new pay scale.

Re: James C. (coo coo) Clyburn has done SC proud...

He is just a tool of the left. He is part of the group that feels that any disagreement with this administration is being racist. His support of the fairness doctrine is laughable. The only thing that is fair in his view would be everyone falling down and agreeing with Pelosi and Obama. The fairness doctrine is nothing more than an attempt to shut up those that disagree with this administration or any other liberal views. I, too, am glad I am not in his district, but what about those that are? Do they have the sense to see through the shallow and biased views of this man? It is the same type of voter that votes for some of the people that are in leadership in Edgefield county.

It is so, so hypocritical to hear these cries from the left for civility. Do these "civil" people realize how uncivil they have been and continue to be? Watch MSNBC for just one hour at night and see how uncivil they are. They have the right to say what they say, but they shouldn't put themselves above the right as some kind of wonderful examples of civility. There is a double standard in this country.

The size of the audience should not determine whether you have free speech or not. Seems like there is someone in Edgefield that is trying to impose their own version of the fairness doctrine.

RE: "Let's just hope the school board does something when Dr. Crenshaw's contract is up....and that the people don't elect Cocaine."

Ya think she knows something we all don't know, or may be inclined to speculate? Why the law suit against three citizens exercising their First Amendment right?  She had to know she was originally hired on an agenda driven pretense instead of qualifications, so even she has to be smart enough to realize it would eventually catch up to her.  Now she's trying to backstop herself.  Funny though, in listening to the radio today, it just occurred to me how silly Dr. Crenshaw is with her latest.  Sean Hannity during the course of the last election cycle, beat the drums on a daily basis to climb aboard the “Stop Pelosi, Reid, and Obama Express.” Now that that was somewhat successful, Hannity’s calling for everyone to “Make Obama a One-Term President.”  Does this mean Obama, Pelosi, or even Harry Reid can file a suit for defamation against Hannity?  I don’t understand what Dr. Crenshaw is doing, does she?  Can someone explain?

As for Cocaine Jackson, did you ever stop to think, if it weren't for those same concerned citizens, Cocaine Jackson would be seated at the Board table now?  Some people think this debacle is a waste of time and taxpayer money, but put it in perspective, he could already be seated and the damage he could do would be far worse and be far more costly in trying to undo. Best ya nip it in the bud, said Barney Fife.

As we have seen.  Sometimes the fight is hard and arduous, but to those who stick it out, justice will eventually prevail, even in the face of a corrupt system.  This will be resolved, by the people, and, for the people.  We must all remain resolute in righting this sinking ship.  We started our journey on November 2, 2010-we must continue now, here locally, and then again in 2012, 2014, 2016, and however long it takes to clean this (removed) up and out.

It has been a long time since I posted on Wandering Minds, but I have something to ask from everyone. I am now stationed near the Green Zone of Kabul Afghanistan and I spend my time out in the community. I have met some very interesting people that want freedom as much as we want to provide it to them. That’s not why I am writing today. I have a young boy who waits for me everyday, and his name is Esa. The temperature yesterday morning when I saw him was roughly 25 degrees and he was wearing sandals and a light jacket. I of course had on three layers of clothing to include a full length overcoat and scarf and I was still cold. He is my self proclaimed BODYGUARD. Watching him working the streets selling bracelets for food money which they  make themselves will break your heart. I say all of this with total disregard for self gratification or praise, but I found out from my actual bodyguard that a new pair of shoes cost between 5-10 dollars. I gave him $ 20 dollars and instructed him to go straight to the store and purchase a new pair of shoes and socks. He did and I cried at how happy he was.

I am not asking for your money, and I guess I’m not really asking you for anything, but the children here are very poor and very small. My adopted bodyguard is a size 5. That could be shoes, shirts, pants anything and everything. Some things are lost in translation and there are more languages spoken here than anywhere I have been deployed.

(To the Editor), I will give you my information and how to reach me or my wife and I am attempting to set something up with our church to send clothing or money and they will purchase clothing to send to my companies APO AE address. It cost more to mail the items than it does to outfit one child unfortunately. I will, hopefully with the help of a few others distribute clothing or I will go to the clothing store and purchase needed clothing with each individual child.

There are no Walmart or Target stores here, just simple clothing shops and bazaars for children. An adult can have a hand made Hugo Boss Suit made for $ 70.00 dollars, but these children do not have such luxuries.

I reach out to you all today to offer you a chance to feel the love and gratitude that I was blessed to have experienced. I will provide pictures to (Edgefield Daily) to show you what happens when a selfless act is bestowed upon someone who cannot do for themselves and he can do with them what he chooses.

(Editor), you have my email address and if you get a response from this please email me and I will put you in touch with my wife and the church and you can distribute the information as you see fit.

Thank you in advance for those of you who do respond. And for those of you who cannot, then  just send us your prayers.

Sleep peacefully America, we have the front lines covered.

Editor's note: Thank you for your service and I will forward any and all messages to you.

Mr. Editor:

You need to do something about the wandering minds….Edgefield County is too small and is not ready for this type of open forum discussion.
When you live in a place where everyone knows everyone else - this is not beneficial and it is not worth the hurt that it causes to some...  Sure, you can argue that there have been post or points of discussion from the wandering minds  that have made an impact, and I agree…sure you can argue that
Comments/post have made a negative impact.  I agree... I know both to be a fact and I think that EdgefieldDaily has provided a valuable service to it's loyal readers.
I want you and others to know that I believe in freedom of speech, don’t misunderstand me. I know that other (many other) papers allow this type of open forum discussion….but it's in bigger metropolitan areas where this is accepted and even found as an opportunity for open debate rather than small town "gotcha" digs being made.
In my opinion, because of the mentality of the shallow,  the "free speech" needs to be monitored or not allowed and just stick to facts!
At the end of the day, these "post" are hidden by annimity and you are the one that the public blames…and that not fair to you or your family. But there again, that is what is remembered.

Editor's note: I would ask if the very reason the county, and the country, has sunken to the depth of depravity that we are in, is a direct result of being "politically correct" and limiting free speech? If we continue to set the standard due to the lowest common denominator, society as a whole follows that lead. Only by the free expression of ideas and thoughts can we shed the cloak of a polite discussion when it has been proved that only makes matters worse.

I wonder where America would be if the "media" of the 1770's wanted to stop the Founding Fathers from speaking their minds on the way things were going at the time. Perhaps today we would not ask if you would like to meet for coffee, but instead "out for a spot of tea".

I have been involved in many memorial services and so far I have never received a T shirt at the service. I was pretty appalled by the memorial service last night. It was a pep rally to me and a sad day for the families of those involved. Do these leaders have a heart a all? Obama could have stopped the cheering and hoopla if he had wanted. If I had been a family member of someone who was hurt or killed, I would have walked out. It was offensive to see the tone in that service. To me, it was just another campaign appearance for Obama and crew. Imagine Holder there, after he has filed suit against AZ. Was he trying to look good to those folks?  It was so nice to hear the Bible readings from this administration that seems to want to squelch Christian activities in this country. The good thing is that God's Word is powerful and will touch lives no matter who quotes them so it is good any time the Bible is read. It was just ironic to see who the two were that read it last night.

Oh, and by the way, I was an American before last Saturday. America did not commit that crime, One crazy lunatic committed that crime. I have always been and continue to be proud of this country. A tragedy like last Sat. is that, a tragedy. I do not remember other Presidents making campaign stops under the guise of showing sympathy to victims of tragedies.

I am not going to be silenced by an attempt from the left to make me feel guilty for standing up for what is right. Standing up for what is right may involve pointing out the untruth of the other side. If they can't take that and have to make it seem uncivil, that is their problem. They had no problem dishing out incivility in the past-anyone remember the awful things said about President Bush and the "suggestions" made about hurting him? The core of this country needs to stand strong and not back down from standing up for what is right. This cannot become another politically correct issue.

Maybe some think this makes Obama look better-I think it just shows who he really is.

Editor's note: I tried to watch the service, but I can't stand to see someone look down on those being spoken to and Obama has to look down his nose at the people as he tilts his head upwards in arrogance.

Political types in our state capitol know what is going on with Cocaine Jackson, but are doing anything (that we know of ) to review  Clown Judges's ruling. It's just insane when a obvious liberal Democrap judge overrules a local voting commission in favor of a genuine scumbag. This Clown Judge has made a mockery of the judicial system and has proven the NAACP is composed of low lifes who use intimidation and scare tactics.  Allowing someone of Cocaine Jackson's reputation to sit on a school board is much like letting Charles Manson be chairman of Edgefield County Council. Allowing Jackson to have a direct vote on a school board where decisions are made concerning our children is criminal. And, if Edgefield County parents sit passively when Cocaine Jackson arrives to his first school board meeting in a car driven by Bibbs, Dorn, Bright and their newest pal, BrotherDean.....then there is no hope for this county being taken over by idiots and morons.

He thinks that members of congress should be treated differently than "everyone else" by the TSA.

How many times do we see the same people over and over being lauded with praise? How many groups and self appointed leaders do you people need to keep patting each other on the back. Maybe the local people don't see this, but as an outsider moving in it is painfully obvious.

RE:  "ARE YOU FRIGGIN KIDDING ME!!!! She has not saved us thoudsands she has driven this district into a hole financially and morally."

Well, where else can you get the free education she has bestowed upon our high school students who not only follow her issues, but those she supports?  She has shown them what NOT to be!  NOT to be a leader that disenfranchises the workforce.  NOT to be a leader that instills fear and turmoil in the workforce.  NOT to be a leader that destroys morale.  NOT to be an American citizen that wants absolutely no public discourse.  NOT to be an American that wants to strip private citizens of their 1st Amendment right to speak out against poor policies.  NOT to be an American that uses her position to enrich herself instead of serving the community.  NOT to be one that believes they are above the law and are held accountable for nothing.  NOT to support a convicted felon and drug dealer to sit on a board that wold impact the safety, health, and educational welfare of our children.

You see, she really has saved the community thousands of dollars.  Sometimes, life experiences are worth more than anything you'd ever get in a classroom.  And what does a first year law student pay to learn that the 1st Amendment of our Constitution affords every citizen the right to speak out, even if the speech is a little harsh?  And what does a first year law student pay to learn that public officials, whether elected or paid for by taxpayer money, are the lowest of the low when subject to public scrutiny, and are held to an extremely high standard of proof?

And with that, maybe, just maybe, we should allow the wonderful Nathaniel Jackson be seated on our school board.  Look at the education he has not only provided our students, but to our community as a whole.  I'm telling you, these two are educational pioneers!  And here, this country has spent years and TRILLIONS of dollars on every imaginable education program to better the education of our children.  Yet, we have the national treasure of educational improvement right here in Edgefield.  We should be ashamed of ourselves for being so selfish and not sharing this brain trust with the rest of the country.

At the funeral service of our loved one, we were pleasantly surprised to learn of many acts of kindness done throughout the years to help, comfort, and encourage others along the way.

Which raises my question to the writer of the article referenced above:
when relatives, friends, and acquaintances are viewing YOUR body in the casket and attending YOUR service, what will they remember about YOU?  That you were kind, compassionate, caring, helpful, encouraging to others, leaving behind a sweet perfume?   Or, that you came across as hateful, envious, jealous, petty, destructive, small-minded, and leaving behind a stench??

In a press conference last week Obama was not wearing his wedding ring nor was he wearing his watch.
When noticed, his staff said his ring was out for repairs.
No reason was given for the missing watch.
So it's just a coincidence that Muslims are forbidden from wearing jewelry during the month of Ramadan???
(think about that one)
Can't possibly be that, because although he hasn't gone to a Christian church since taking office, we know he's a committed Christian 'cause he said so during the campaign.
And how convenient to be "on vacation" in Hawaii over Christmas so he doesn't have to have the Christmas photograph of him and his family attending Christmas services with a Bible in his hand----his ringless and watchless hand.

Editor's post: I want to welcome Norman Dorn and Willie Bright into the Republican Party as they made sure they voted Dean Campbell in as Chairman over the majority of the Republican County Council members wishes. It was strange, because when I thanked Mr. Dorn for voting for a republican he told me to "kiss my (rear end)".

More to come in an upcoming Editor's column on how it all went down. It will be very interesting reading.

But it is a typical kind of attack done by democrats.  When you can't address a given issue just attack the person.  The "person" that submitted the post is not brave enough to say that to you in person or to sign his/her name to the attack.

Barack says we need to have a  conversation about race in America .. Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation.. White America needs to be heard from,  not just lectured to.... This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are  these:

First,    America has  been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that  600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a  community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and  reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever  known.. Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans.  Untold trillions have been spent since the ' 60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans,  legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.  Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks -- with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas -- to advance black applicants over white applicants. Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have donated their time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks.
We hear the  grievances. Where is the gratitude??

Barack talks about new 'ladders of opportunity' for blacks. Let him go to Altoona ?  And Johnstown , and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for 'deserving' white kids...?  Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of whiteAmerica ?  Is it really white America 's  fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent?

Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself?

As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence. Is Barack Obama aware that while white criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time?

Is Barack aware  that black-on-white rapes are 100 times more common than the reverse,  that black-on-white robberies were 139 times as common in the first  three years of this decade as the reverse?

We have all heard ad nauseam from the Rev. Al  about Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case and Jena . And all turned out to be hoaxes. But about the epidemic of black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing.

Sorry, Barack, some of us have heard it all before, about 40 years and 40 trillion tax dollars ago.

However, having seen him many times now on all the channels, there is something about this guy that just doesn't seem quite right. I began thinking, why wouldn't a person with such a great voice and that has been clean for 2 years now, found some type of job, any kind of job. It takes a person with a cell phone video to discover him on the side of the road?

Also, in 2 of the interviews with his mother included, she is very standoffish. I suspect he was a menance to the family for many years due to his drug and alcohol use. He is seen crying in most all of the interviews, yet he has not shed one tear. He is even claiming now that two morning show producers were fighting over him and one of them pushed him.

I hope the guy is genuine, but he may also be schizophrenic. It will be interesting to see where and how this man is doing in 6 months. I hope the media will continue to follow his progress over the next few months, regardless of the outcome. They have been known to jump on the flavor of the day.

Yes, but these people that are elected or appointed to represent us are supposed to be smart.  No one has seen how the liberals play the game?  Have they seen how they play the game now?  Will they learn how to play the game now?  For liberals, its no holds barred!  With conservatives, it's - we'll try to get along, kum bi ya, touchy feely....... When will they wake up and learn the game.  The Chief of Police of Johnston knows Jackson doesn't reside there, did he step up to the plate?  Did Medlock ask him to testify or provide an affidavit?  The licensing office knows he doesn't live there, and allegedly runs a tax business out of that building without a license?  Did they do anything?  Medlock was lazy.  They didn't investigate the matter any further.  They relied on what two lowly citizens did in a very short time.  They ASSumed it was case closed.  They didn't reinforce their position.  That's just plain stupid-you always have a contingency plan.  Nate did.  He proved to be smarter than Medlock and the Elections Commission.  The only one he couldn't bully was Trisha Butler.  Good for her!

Interesting how the average everyday citizen has put forth good logical points they even see to nullify Jackson's residency claim, and McMahon's ruling.  But the "geniuses" just can't figure it out.  Is Medlock going to appeal the ruling by McMahon?  After all, he overturned their unanimous decision. Or is he going to roll over? I'm sorry, but I wouldn't let some bleeding heart try to tell me how to do my job, and I wouldn't accept his ruling, knowing its flawed.  Let's see what Medlock will muster.  But, I'll bet you he'll..........Since the citizenry has common sense, let's file a civil suit against Jackson and request a jury trial and let the citizens hand down the decision. You see, that's a contingency plan.

Mr. Editor
Dean Campbell is a good man and I think you need to lay off and let's see what he can do as chairman. You didn't criticize Democrat Bill Clyburn when he got elected Edgefield County Delegation chairman by 2 Republicans. According to a local newspaper, he was nominated by Republican Senator Massey and seconded by Republican Representative Hixon. Not only is Clyburn a democrat, he doesn't even claim to live in Edgefield County.

Ediotor's note: Sounds like I need to write a letter to Shane and Bill for selling out their party as well. I guess by thier standards, Willie Bright should be chairman. Trust me, there is another storm brewing at the county level behind the scenes.

You continue to attack Dean Campbell as a sellout without any evidence of what he "sold out". Even though you say he did not support your wife, she got 3 votes and was elected vice chairman. What proof do you have Campbell did not support her? I would think Dean supported her since Mr. Bright got 2 votes and I doubt Bright or Dorn voted for your wife. Let's give the new leadership a chance.

Editor's note: Dean sold out his own party members in favor of the Democrats to further his own ego and desire for power and the spotlight. There was more than one double cross that took place Tuesday night from what I have been told. It is going to be an interesting year.

Students who attend Edgefield County schools have to prove residency or pay out of district tuition. What a costly mess if we allowed all children to attend free just if they intend to live here one day. That would be a huge injustice to taxpayers. Also anyone can get their criminal record expunged. Probably that is what cocaine Nate has done. But please expose him by reporting ALL the crimes of which he has been charged with. I have faith that the voters in Johnston both black and white will want what is best for their childrens future and not vote for a criminal just because he is black. If that happens we do have serious issues in our county. Also I am speaking for parents who are struggling and cannot pay for their children to go elsewhere.  So please get out and vote for william Herrin. Let's get past the black white thing and do what's best for children. Jackson can't make judgment decisions for our children. He can't even do what's right in his own life.

Editor's note: Jackson's criminal record is still in tact and he is facing mandatory jail time if convicted of his recent arrest for driving under suspension 3rd offense. Rest assured that Norman Dorn and Willie Bright will be working overtime to make sure he wins the run-off. The same two who voted Dean Campbell in as the county council chair. Just makes you feel even better about the direction our county is heading, doesn't it?

Reference:  Nathaniel Jackson

Y'all are forgetting one thing.  It's not only Judge McMahon's disgrace, what about Medlock?  If he would have stood firm and dismissed the flimsy argument Nathaniel Jackson put forth to get an appeal  http://edgefielddaily.com/edgefield110510.html after the legal time lapsed, the appeal could have been DOA.  Instead, Medlock chooses to be politically correct, bend the rule in favor of Nathaniel Jackson so he can get an appeal, put the onus on someone else so he doesn't have to make a decision or accept responsibility  for a decision, and now you see the results.

If Medlock would have had some brass, just like they would have if it were not a person of color, this thing could have been a dead issue a long time ago.  This is what we're faced with-spaghetti spined people to represent "The People."

Not only was Nathaniel Jackson's request for an appeal a farce, but it was another fraud.  The letter he said he wrote, which was formally typed, was back dated to October 21, 2010 to meet the 10 day requirement.  Mr. Attorney Medlock, you sat in on the initial hearing on October 21, 2010, and witnessed firsthand the outright lies, and you let him slide.  Mr. Attorney Medlock are you saying the backdated letter dated October 21, 2010, by Nathaniel Jackson was also not a sham?  Do you honestly believe that after the hearing on the evening of October 21, 2010, that Nathaniel Jackson, hopped in his truck, illegally drove to his residence on a suspended license of which he presented as fact and evidence during the hearing, fired up his generators in the house, fired up the computer and printer, or typewriter, and immediately turned out a request for an appeal, of which was only referenced to in the request for information?

We need more employees like Trisha Butler.  At least she stood her ground and presented facts to support her actions, only to have someone like Medlock throw her under the bus and allow Nathaniel Jackson to waltz through the square, and then have a schlep like McMahon overturn a UNANIMOUS, 7-0, decision without revieiwing the evidence?  Why do we have election laws?  Why do we have residency laws?  Why do we have Medlock?

Editor's note: I can't place the blame on Mr. Medlock or the EC Election Commission. Jackson would have gotten his appeal either way. If they denied the appeal, he could have appealed that decision and would have been granted the first appeal with, evidently, the same outcome.

No one saw the ruling that was handed down coming and they were as shocked as the rest of the county. Judge McMahon made the ruling. He owns it lock, stock, and barrel.

I would urge Dean to re-read Roberts Rules of Order where he will learn that the "Chair" has the power to appoint committees unless the Council has "other" rules to govern itself by. It is pointless to have a chair if all powers are relinquished. That's just a meeting co-ordinator.

Why did Tot (Willie) Bright get up to offer his seat to Dean after the "vice-chair" was elected or am I mis-reading something?

Editor's note: Councilman Bright was the Vice-chair and conducting the meeting as the chair until the elections took place. At that time Campbell took the chairman's position in the center.

Can't you give Dean Campbell a chance? He hasn't been in office 24 hours and you are already impling he is dumb and a sellout. Of course you wanted your wife to be Council chairman. I hope she doesn't share your views on Mr. Campbell. I understand he did a good job presiding Tuesday night. He is Council chairman now and we should all pray for him and the rest of Council.

Editor's note: Dean is, supposedly, a Republican and should follow the lead of his Republican party leaders on council. IT should be up to them as to who is chair. They have the majority. Dean decided to rebuke his fellow Republicans and seek the support of those who have kept the county from growing for years to get elected to the chair.

You do not find that odd?

That then raises the question of how he got them to go along with him over his own party leaders on the council. This is Edgefield County. We all know how things like that work.

My wife has her own mind and can speak for herself. She has told Dean she will support him (even though he did not support her). She has class, not a big ego. She serves for the betterment of Merriwether and the county and is not consumed about power, unlike some people.

Dean is a sell out, and I say that here because I have said it to him. All he was interested in was power, not doing what is best for the county. There were many items on the agenda he knew nothing about, he ignored the advice of his own vice-chair on questions of protocol, and showed why he had no business being chair because he was in office only minutes when he took the position by nefarious means.

That's just the facts.
web posted January 6, 2011

If Mr. Jackson is allowed to be on the school board of Edgefield County Schools I will personally
withdraw both of my children from the schools in Edgefield County.
I feel like Mr. Jackson is not the appropriate person with the appropriate morals to be a mentor or
leader role model for the future of this County. What will this action teach the future generations?
That if you fight hard enough - you get what you want even if it is illegal or the wrong way to do things.
This is not only wrong but it is also putting our future leaders of this county in jeopardy.

What can you do when you are a single parent with limited funds ?

Editor's note: You can withdraw your children and place them in another public school district but you need the permission of the BOE to do so.

My comment is regarding the whole Nathaniel Jackson school board issue at hand.  School employees have policies and guidelines that allow them to hold or not hold their positions.  Teachers must have a background check in order to teach.  Do school board members not have rules or exceptions (such as a conviction for drug trafficking) that make them ineligible for a part of a school board?  They help guide and make important decisions for our county, schools, and the children. Just because they are not sitting in a class full of kids doesn't mean they are qualified to decide the future of schools and the future of our children.  If they make bad decisions, like ones resulting in drug convictions (which to me far outweighs his residency status), how can they even be considered for a school board, or any other school related position?

Editor's note: I'm not sure if the BOE could institute requirements for candidates or not. That would be a question for Greg Anderson. I do think the county should impose a filing fee for running. As a non-partisian race they do not have to pay to run. Basically a homeless person could run for office for nothing. Wait... didn't that just happen?

Clown McMahon is truly a liberal democrap joke who uses an outdated ruling from the 1800's to make his case in favor of Cocaine Jackson.
What law presided in the 1800's does not necessarily apply to 2011. Nice try Clown Judge and in this county you....McMahon will always be know as Clown Judge.

I just sent a note to Senator Shane Massey and encourage all others to do so. Some higher authority needs to review Clown McMahon's decision and hopefully Senator Massey can make that happen.
Remember, Democraps are good at twisting the law in favor of their NAACP friends and Clown Judge has done such with no regard for those who must live with his Clown decision. Stay out of our county Clown Judge we don't respect or like you.

Ok. Say I receive my mail at a Post Office box, and call the water and power company to "attempt" to get services at that address (of course I will be denied), that does not mean I reside there. I have a notion that the NAACP may have slipped Judge McMahon a note on this one. Dr. King is turning over in his grave...he would not have approved of this type of action.

I know there are law abiding and church-going citizens in the Johnston District. If these voters seat Nathaniel Jackson, then the county school system will suffer. He will vote to not expel drug dealers, will vote to give his friends bid related contracts, all of which will be to the detriment of the students. Plus he has pending criminal charges. How will he serve the schools behind bars?

William Herrin served the community in the Jaycee's for years, operates a legitimate business, is married to a former educator, and has children in the public schools. I do not know him very well, but I have not heard any negative remarks made toward him.

Editor's note: Even if elected Jackson will be in the minority of the control of the BOE. I keep thinking about how funny it would be to bring the old Rebel mascot back with him on the losing side of the vote. After all, he was the one that pushed to have it removed over the wishes of the parents, students (black and white), teachers, and voters. Students even held a protest on the issue by refusing to go to class during the debate. Once again, like Nov 2nd, it's going to be up to the voters to have to vote this fecal matter out, or to keep him out.  This Nate Jackson thing truly is a teachable moment.  It teaches us all how corrupt our system has come.  From the politicians to the judicial system.  What is very very saddening is that we have lost father mothers, sisters, brothers, sons and daughters around the world upholding justice and the rule of law, only to have them come home to (removed) like this.  This is an absolute disgrace.  Someone should challenge that ruling, it doesn't make sense.  So, if I intend to live in California, I can run to be the governor while I live in SC awatiing for my house to be built?  What a political hack and absolute prostitute McMahon is.  If I were his children I'd be so embarrassed to be his children.  What's more-the teachable moment trickles down to the students.  Do you know how many of the students talk about the Nate Jackson issue?  Some of the students will learn that the NAACP is their savior and is the body to turn to when in need of assistance to get away with their thuggery.  But hopefully the unintended consequences will be that it will breed a new crop of honorable men and women who will have seen just how corrupt the system has become, and they will grow to fight and re-establish a moral fiber and character we once had as a nation.

Voter's in Herrin's District-ya better pull up your boots and serve justice again, like the other districts did on November 2, 2010.  It's up o you now.

Re: “When the Bible mentions that the tongue is a double-edged sword, I believe it also has to do with the written word. “

I found this to be an convoluted but interesting post where the contributor decries airing faults on the printed page and, astonishingly, in the next paragraph declares that another got his or her degree out of a Cracker Jack University. In the penultimate paragraph, the contributor seems to pride himself or herself in saying something negative about another. All of this following a leading paragraph vowing to withhold his or her statements that may not be nice. Double-minded may be more of an issue here than Double-edged.

The poster is correct that the Word of God is said to be like a double-edged. There are other limited verses pertain to the person of Christ. I have found no other reference that would apply to our tongues being like double-edged swords. I say this not to correct the poster but that your readers not be deceived by yet another false claim against the Holy Writ.

Psalm 149 clearly does not reference the tongue but a sword in the hand to inflict vengeance. Proverbs 5 refers to the nature of an adulterous woman, Hebrews 4 clearly pertains to the Word of God, as the contributor correctly cites. Revelation 1 clearly pertains to Christ as does Revelation 2.

All of this said, the Bible is replete with admonitions against reckless use of our tongues because of the devastation follows.

I thank you Editor for providing a forum for all the voices of your readership. From them the truth is exposed and light shines into dark places. Truth is not confined to the erudite but can also revealed by the most inarticulate or by foolish men, like me.

I was at the county council meeting and could not believe that the (Republican majority) voted Dean Campbell in as the chairman. I was shocked.

Editor's note: Do not feel alone, Campbell was voted into office by Democrats Norman Dorn and Willie Bright, not his fellow Republicans party members. Selling your soul is a cheap comodity in Edgefield County. The "good old boys" rule on votes. You should know that by now. Monroe Kneece stated he would be there for the meeting to make sure the majority "fell in line". I guess he didn't need to do so after the details had already been worked out prior to the meeting.

RE:  Cocaine Jackson in run off election

Can't believe this county is so worried about the NAACP that they let a convicted felon be in the run off when he is obviously not living in his "wonderful" home in Johnson.  This is just a disgrace to the community.

And you wonder why this country and county is headed down the road to hell as evidenced by liberal Judge McMahon who rules in favor of  dirt bag convicted criminal Cocaine Jackson. I wonder what legal precedent this clown of a Judge used to justify allowing a non-county resident to run in a race for which he is not qualified. If Cocaine Jackson were white, this idiotic situation would not have reached an idiotic liberal judge. But, the NAACP rules and gets its way from intimidation and scare tactics. Good show! Only in Edgefield County! There is only one solution to this problem and that is for one of the other two candidates to drop out and let this be a two way race or Cocaine Jackson will win a coveted position sitting next to Idiot Bibbs and Sister Sallie. This is a black/white race and no one can deny that. Unfortunately, most of the black community will support someone they can identify with and that is a true shame, when their candidate is a low life ex-con who continues to push the race card, and thus split an already split county into an abyss where truth, honor and justice are lost...thanks to the cowardly ruling by a judge who spins the liberal mantra.

Hey “mare” Livingston, did you ever think to put notices about when the town of Johnston will pick-up the garbage?? It seems before you graced us with your presence, we always got notices before the holidays about pick-ups. Our pail has been at the curb for 3 days, and it’s getting ripe! Let’s get back to the way things were done, and not leave us, the people who voted for you, (at least I was sober) and keep us in the loop about town happenings.

Quite honestly, I find what was posted on 12/31 that has Kerns so defensive is a legitimate request.  Are these people so arrogant they truly believe they can serve the people with impunity?  Think about it for a second.  What is the first thing you hear when a public figure or politician resigns?  “It’s for personal reasons”… “I want to spend more time with my family”, etc.  It’s the standard boilerplate answer and usually stems from a swirling controversy the person resigning is involved in, has knowledge of, or has close or professional ties to someone embroiled in the controversy.  I think it’s fair.

Barack Obama enjoys living like a king, so why shouldn't Michelle Obama live like a queen?

The First Lady was photographed last night in Hawaii wearing $635 per pair designer shoes by Maison Martin Margiela.

A woman lucky enough to have a job in this economy and working for the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour would have to work 88 hours (without taxes taken out) to make enough to pay for Michelle Obama's shoes.

The Obamas are staying at an $8.9 million estate for an estimated $4,000 per night. To cover the Obama's ten-night stay, the minimum wage worker would have to work two-and-a-half years (before taxes) to come up with the $40,000 Obama is reportedly laying out.

Obama has lectured Americans about how they can not expect to live their lives as indulgently as they have in the past. He has lectured businesses about their travel and pay. Yet Obama and his wife live
like kings and queens.

The news media has yet to call him out on his extravagance when there is 10% unemployment with no sign of the employment picture improving this coming year.

The way they spend OUR MONEY is an insult to every hard working citizen of this country. GREED is their CREED !

It is amazing how you report on Edgefield "Pool Room" owner passes New Years Day, but you did not report on Jim Satcher the owner of Jim Satchcer Motors, Inc. He was involved in many organizations including the Gamecock Club, Ridge Fishing Club, was a member of Kadosh Masonic Lodge #154, the Board at First Citizens Bank and the Board at Johnston United Methodist Church where he was a member, and also, Board Member of Southeast Advertising for Chrysler Motor Co.

Why did you report that Mr. Editor????

Thank you

Editor's note: The death of Jimmy Satcher was not made known to us until Monday morning around 10 am and the obituary was placed within minutes of it being received. Had it been released to us it would have been listed. A family friend contacted us about Mr. Strom, but no one, including Bland Funeral Home, ever sent an obit for publication. David Satcher is a dear friend of ours and, if I had known, it would have made the headlines. We were lucky to learn of the death and get the obit from a news partner.

RE: “This is (Heidi) KERNS - not KEARNS - former CFO, ECSD.  Since I don't work for the District anymore, I decided to respond to the slanderous post of 12/31."

From the way it reads, it appears the post MS. KERNS refers to in her reply hit a nerve.  Responding in anger can also be very revealing.  Why is the sensitivity level so high with people in the school district?

The post of 12/31 only asked questions, yet MS. KERNS stated it as slander.  From an outsider, it appears people in the district, presumably educated people, consistently confuse legitimate questions as slander, or in the case of the Superintendent, defamation.

Boasting the auditor heaped laudatory comments upon the district’s accounting is also somewhat superficial.  If anyone has attended any of the school board meetings where the auditor speaks, generally annually, one would know they say almost the same thing every year, and yes, heap praise every year.  Not making any allegation, or “slandering” anyone, but let’s also point out the simple fact that Enron, Worldcom, Fannie and Freddie Mac, and even Bernie Madeoff successfully completed “sound” audits.

MS. KERNS never stated whether or not she attended the mandatory training for distribution of stimulus money.  Since MS. KERNS also found it necessary to “take a stand” because of what her father taught her, MS. KERNS appears to have failed an even more important lesson her father, with him being a marine, probably taught her as well-HONOR.  If there were some valid concerns voiced in the, always negative, Wandering Minds, why didn’t she take a stand then?  Job before honor?

MS. KERNS also validated concerns teachers and district personnel have always had.  MS. KERNS, in her post, stated now that she is not an employee of the school district any more, she could now comment.  Seems, MS. KERNS has also, always been reading the Wandering Minds.  Now that the district no longer employs MS. KERNS, she can now exercise her 1st Amendment right to free speech without fear of retribution? Job before honor?

And don't forget, the job process of being hired by another district is a little more time consuming than just a couple of weeks.  So how long has MS. KERNS been looking for a job? And why?

The boldness in MS. KERNS’ stand is commendable, but too little, too late.  An important fact not addressed is the timing.  One important lesson in public life is to never give the appearance of impropriety, or never compromise yourself.  Yet is seems members of the school board and the district have always ignored this cardinal rule, and always provide fodder to the public.  And now it’s the public’s fault to question?

Editor's note: I have no questions about why Ms. Kerns sought another position for personal reasons. Having dealt with an ailing family member, and now dealing with another, I can understand such a drastic career change to make caring for a family member easier. Anyone is well within their rights to question those who control or oversee taxpayer monies.

Editor's post: Not a great start for the New Year. My wife and family members were taking turns staying with my wife's 90-year-old aunt who fell Friday suffering a serious break to her femur just above her left knee. New Years Eve, New Years, and still today, family members are with her at University Hospital following surgery that also found her suffering a heart attack during the procedure. Doctors believe she will recover in spite of several other complications. Please keep Mrs. Yates and the extended family in your prayers.

I would also like to thank the Edgefield County EMT's who responded to the call and took such great care in treating her after her fall. I would put them up against any in the CSRA for their diligence, professionalism, and caring delivery of care.

This is (Heidi) KERNS - not KEARNS - former CFO, ECSD.  Since I don't work for the District anymore, I decided to respond to the slanderous post of 12/31.  My Dad, former Marine and police officer, always told me to take a stand, but before I do, to have the FACTS STRAIGHT and have the INTEGRITY to sign my name to it.  Although I have seen a number of very valid points made in (the Wandering Minds), unfortunately the unfounded lies found in others taint the entire (conversation).

Like always, I encourage you to contact me anytime.  If you would have bothered to attend the community/board meetings you would know about many of the details you question and would have heard the auditor compliment the district for its financial performance.  Outside audits are performed annually, state and federal financial and program audits are completed periodically.  There were no issues with accountability for stimulus funding or any other funding for that matter.  Control routines were continually monitored and new ones were being developed and discussed with the board to make all financial processes the best they could be. EVERY AUDIT I have ever been involved with has been sound.

As far as mine being a cushy job, if you consider driving nearly four hours a day to work 7-12 hours a day or more and additionally secure continuing education credits to retain my certification cushy, only to get no raise and lose pay to furlough days like the rest of the staff, then so be it.  By all means if you can identify any impropriety go after the process or people responsible, but don't just come out swinging indiscriminately without all of the FACTS, or you can hurt what you say you are trying to help.

And yes, it was largely for personal reasons that I resigned.  Being the only sibling to care for my 78 year old mother having back surgery and other family issues were just more than I could manage long distance.  I was offered the head finance position for the county school district in which she resides, near my home, and the board thankfully allowed me out of my contract to accept it for which I am very grateful.  I only wish the best for the future of ECSD.

RE:  All the schools are talking about needing money but every night I ride by Parker every light at the school is on. Not some lights, all the lights. Come on people, do your part and help out. Quit wasting our money!

Once everyone leaves, all of the lights are turned off.  When you ride by the school, it looks like lights are left on in parts of the building.  I believe you are seeing the required safety lights in certain hallways that come on automatically.  They are reflecting up and down the halls giving the impression of lots of lights left on.  "Every light" is not left on "every night."

With the new 1.5 million dollar charge to the American people for Obama's most current vacation, it makes me wonder how many people still support his "hope and change". The only hope I see that he had was to dupe us into allowing him to have an extravagant lifestyle. I wonder what the total tally of cost would be if we looked at every outing and vacation this man and his family had taken in the last two years. For those out of work or struggling financially, it sure is nice to have such a great example of arrogance in the White House. He "feels your pain" but he sure doesn't share it. Americans need to continue to remember how this man has treated the office of the Presidency in 2012. Crawford, TX was a pretty simple place to go for the holidays.

Here's my motto for the new year: If you can't say something nice about someone, then don't say it at all.

When the Bible mentions that the tongue is a double-edged sword, I believe it also has to do with the written word. The Wandering Minds is a place to air opinions, etc., but sometimes I think some people go to far. The very people who write on this site are probably the ones that smile into the face of the person whose back they are burying the knife in.

I think whatever faults a person may have, it doesn't need to be aired on a page where the whole public can read it. For example, if someone has a problem with the principal at ST, then tell him to his face. Don't be a coward and hide behind the anonymity of the written word. Don't complain about the school board on Wandering Minds, schedule a meeting, show up, and air your opinion.

As for the person that works at ST and has a Master's degree, where did you get it? It must have been a Cracker Jack University because your grammar and spelling are terrible. Now, how does it feel for someone to say someone negative about you? It makes you angry, doesn't it? Remember that the next time you write something mean.

I think what goes on in our schools needs to come to public light in another way, not through the Wandering Minds. School board meetings would be a good start.

ESPN has published an article listing the bowl-bound universities that spent the most on their respective football programs.  It should be no surprise that of the top 10, 6 of the schools were in the SEC, joining such programs as Ohio State and Notre Dame with Wisconsin and TCU rounding out the list.  But, number 7 is a curious entry.
