Re: I do not support the proposed new baiting regulations.

To add to my previous post baiting encourages unnatural behavior from wild animals. They are attracted to and can come to rely on a food source that does not occur naturally. It affects their movements as well. Deer hunting may as well become a contest on who can pile the most corn and “deer-caine” in the center of their property. Is that what we want to teach or young sportsmen? Unnatural movement, mortality and behavior are not good for any animal nor is it good for those who wish to enjoy harvesting the resource in anything resembling a natural setting. I have hunted on clubs that bait and always tell my buddy that I don’t want to take a deer that way and want to avoid the practice. Corn is not put out around the places I plan to hunt. Besides much of the corn piled on the ground is gobbled up by a bunch of animals that you can’t be, or shouldn’t be, shooting anyway such as immature deer and yearlings, does on days not designated as doe days, and other non-deer species. The practice affects much more than that big trophy deer that you just got to brag about.

To pro-baiters: get your arse out in the woods (or on the water), learn something about the resource (fish, fowl, mammal) you intend to harvest, spend time in the woods (or on the water), enjoy the experience and be thankful to the big man upstairs for the harvest. Don’t want to do that, then you don’t deserve a hunting license or the privilege of harvesting the resource. Period.

Never thought that I would live to see the day when the “I deserve it all, I want it all right this minute, don’t care about nothing else but myself and my ego” attitude would permeate the world of the outdoorsmen so. What a shame.

As evidenced by the sole resident of our community who showed up to support baiting in Edgefield, this practice is for slob hunters who care about only themselves, ignoring the good of our wildlife as a whole.  The measure passed the sub-committee, even with biologist like Joe Hamilton (founder QDMA) and Dr. James Earl Kennamer (NWTF) warning of the disease issues that will arise from baiting on such small land holdings. Still, the measure was allowed to move forward.  I wonder if these individuals who voted for baiting would ignore advice from their personal physicians?  Probably so.............

A special thanks to Joe Hamilton, Dr. Kennamer, Tom Hughes, Charles Kemp, John Peddigrew and others from our community who made the trip to Columbia to speak out against baiting.

According to the IRS, the cheapest Obamacare plan for a family will cost $20,000 a year. That is for the bronze plan, the lowest coverage plan on the tier. So, since this is just a lower coverage plan, basically there will be additional cost out of pocket with this bronze plan. This cost would be for a family of four. If one does not pay this , they will pay a $2400 penalty. So, now that we have "free" healthcare this is the actual cost. Wouldn't it have been better to be uncovered and save the $2400 to use toward health costs? Maybe someone else can explain the math to me. Oh gee, the election is over and it is too late to really know what it going on. I bet there will be lots of new surprises to come.  Enough said.
web posted February 2, 2013

[Mr. Editor] your opinion on hunting deer over bait is totally incorrect. Hunting over bait has been done statewide for many years! Corn is not the only bait used. Millions of dollars are poured into the States economy (especially Edgefield and surrounding counties) through the development of hunting plots, which is not natural. Many hunting clubs exist throughout the state that have thousand of acres of food plots throughout the forest in order to draw the game into a specific hunting area and set up stands over these plots to harvest many different types of game from deer to doves and turkeys just to mention a few. Why do you think that the deer population has exploded over the past twenty years and hunters come from all over the south east to Hunt in South Carolina. Baited areas (food plots) have been established to help our wildlife survive and flourish. Hundreds of millions of dollars are put into our economy through this practice. So if the government wants to either allow baiting, first they should define what is bait and then pass a law that states whether you would be able to hunt in natural or unnatural feeding areas. If the hunters had not created the unnatural feeding areas then the game population would be far less than what it is today and many species probably would not even be in the area now if not for these practices. Because of drought, timber harvest and the encroachment of man into their natural habitat  it has become necessary to create unnatural feeding areas through out the state.

Lets do some research and report on the how much money is brought into South Carolina's economy with and without these hunting practices and then decide if we want to ban any type of baiting and I would be willing every tax payer would want to keep things as they are and not have to subsidize  the government with higher taxes!!!

Gee,  new glitch in the healthcare law, the "affordability act", that will exclude some families from getting insurance. If a person cannot afford to pay for insurance offered by their employer, they are are not eligible for the government subsidy to pay for private insurance.  So that leaves them uninsured. Wow, with employers now required to cover employees how many do you think that will impact? They say at least 500,000 children alone will not be covered. I would imagine it will be a lot more than that. So, the ER becomes their medical care again and we all get to keep paying for them. Oh, and so much for "free" healthcare. I guess that is still only available through medicaid and that is a great program for those of us who work. Not.

They are saying as this monster is getting implemented more "glitches" are being discovered. Who would have guessed? I think most of the conservatives knew that from the get go. Anything managed by the government has a lot of glitches and issues. Look at the great job they have done with social security and medicare.

I just keep my hope that most states do not set up exchanges. That is our last hope to keep this thing from totally taking over.

As you probably know by now s91 passed the Senate with a 22-15 vote. 14 of those 22 votes were low state votes, who don't even have a dog in the fight.  It also passed House sub-committee yesterday with a 3-1 vote and is headed to full house committee. The one nay vote was the only true upstate vote cast.
I am against s91 and it will change the face of upstate hunting forever. One of the main supporters of the bill pushing hard to pass this quickly is our Congressman down the road in the merriwether district.
If you are an Upstate hunter that is opposed to the shooting of deer on bait he/she better wake up and contact your Congressman and the members on the house committee ASAP. This bill has been placed on the fast track by its supporters and will most probably become law if it passes House full committee. It is moving fast and will become quickly if it is not defeated or stalled.

To the person talking about getting mopeds/mini bikes off the roads and classifying people who ride them the way you are is wrong. You don't know everyone's circumstance and shouldn't be so quick to judge. They do have to have a "moped" license to operate these vehicles and as a responsible driver you should just be a little more patient, slow down and be more considerate.  Not everyone's situation is the same. It takes people from all walks of life to make up this world we live in, if it were you on the moped/mini bike or a family member your opinion may be different. If anything should be done in the name of SAFTEY bicycle riders especially the riders on sweet water rd. should not be allowed, that is certainly an accident waiting to happen and could be prevented. So keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the rd. and look out for your fellow drivers. Peace

Never has been any followup to the Jan 23rd article on this subject. What were the results? Many citizens of this county are interested in the outcome.

Editor's note: The bill passed the Senate and now heads to the House for approval. It could meet some resistance there.. Still no word on where Gov. Haley stands on the bill.

If you have not heard this, it is fascinating. FDR made a proposal for a second Bill of Rights which included a right to a job, a home, healthcare etc. It is worth looking at as our President has referred to it. Wouldn't that be interesting if all of a sudden there is an addition to our real Bill of Rights? I have talked about what we have a right to versus what we expect and how I think this country really is confused about what "rights" we have.

This proposal and the reference to it by Obama gives me a chill. I feel there is a misconception out there promoting this idea that healthcare, success etc is a "right". So far, that is not the case. The only "rights" we have are the ones spelled out in the Bill of Rights. If our leaders can change the Constitution in any way, then these other rights will be true. Something to ponder. With the lack of concern by progressives for the Constitution it probably doesn't matter-they do what they want and don't care if it is legal or not. We all sit by and let it happen.

The attack on FOX news and Rush Limbaugh is also fascinating. Since when is good dialog and debate a bad thing? Since when is disagreeing with someone just that nasty old "gridlock"? Isn't that why we have a balance of power? Sounds like the only way this President will be happy is to shut down anyone who disagrees or dares to point out the reality of what is going on. This coming from the President who was suppose to bring the country together. I guess the only way to bring it together is to make sure there are no other ideas or opinions out there other than his.

Please think about who is in control in the country and who wants total control of this country. Isn't is obvious? If not, how does one explain all of these things? I don't want to hear the hype... I want to know when it became wrong to have other ideas, opinions, good debate on issues, etc. How brainwashed are  the people in this country? We are not all deaf and dumb.

Republicans and Conservatives should step back and let Obama do whatever he wants with the Immigration bill.  The blacks, as stupid as they are, most of them, you know the LIV4O crowd, voted the (removed) punk in so deys could gets what deys want, ebby little handout (disguised reparations).  Well, ya voted for him, now reap the consequenses.  The black community "thinks" they are discriminated against now and always playsin da race card all the time, wait until they become the minority minority.  I think its great!  Shut the race baiters up, once and for all.  No more Bibbs, no more Dorn, no more Jesse Jackson, no more Al Sharpton.  Their vote's won't mean squat!  Yes, finally.  We need to start looking for Hispanic candidates for school board and county council positions and get rid of the thugs that have constantly denied their own race of real representation.  Let's see, African American unemployment 20-25%.  When the Hispanics become the majority it'll be 50%.  Gotta love it!  You reap what you sow, and they sure have sowed the race baiting seeds for decades.  Now, whatcha gonna do?  Oh, that's right, the Hispanics will become racists too.  You see, everyone that likes to work to get ahead instead of waiting for a handout is a racist.  Hey Bibbs, Dorn, and your beloved NAACP - nlnn

Please explain why SC allows unlicensed drivers and mopeds/minibikes on our roads? These drivers aren't required to have an operator's license. If you lose your SC driver's license you should be off the road as a driver. Period. They aren't insured, tagged and registered so I guess they don't pay yearly property taxes either. They are a distraction to other drivers since they weave so much.  It seems like they can't go as fast as cars and trucks and are surely invisible to tractor trailers. They are a real hazard at night too, since the head lights aren't strong and the tail lights are practically nonexistent. I pay my yearly property taxes on my vehicles, state registration, have a driver's license, and insurance. So I also pay my fair share for road maintenance and for law enforcement on our roads/highways. We need to get laws passed to either regulate these drivers & vehicles or get them off the roads.  They certainly don't belong on truck routes or roads where the speed limit is 35 mph or over.

First of all I would like to express my sympathy for the loss of "Popcorn". It is so hard to lose a good friend and a good person. He will be missed.

I think the difference in our world today is based on the words appreciation and expectation. I have no problem helping folks in need. I know they appreciate it and need it. I do have a problem just throwing money at folks who expect it. I don't owe them anything. I worked hard, sacrificed, watched the sacrifice of my parents and grandparents and learned that responsibility is important in life. I don't expect free healthcare, or free lunch or free cell phones. I do have the rights guaranteed to me in the Bill of Rights. I do have a right to the pursuit of happiness. Supporting all these free loading does not make me happy. There should be things in place to help those that really need it, but this attitude of "I expect it and I deserve it" is out of control. Where are the freedoms and rights of the working people and the "givers" in this country? Who is really in control here, folks?

I gotta love the poster, "white liberal". They have no idea of who is in control. Maybe they are part of the "expecters". If not, then they are being dooped by having to support all these folks that could be taking care of themselves. They will be paying more for healthcare, more in taxes, more in daily living. If they don't see that, than heaven help them. Good grief!!! They think they have all these rights promised by the Democrats. So, do they? What exactly are they seeing on a daily basis that makes their life better? I would really like to know. Maybe they appreciate all the government interference in their life but I don't.

Border Security - do not shy away from this video, please.
Powerful Video you should see produced by the NRA (National Rifle Association), but you need to be aware of this as a citizen of the U.S.A.

For those of you who may not know, Sheriff Larry Dever, white cowboy hat and blue/white checkered shirt is the long time sheriff of Cochise County . Sierra Vista , where I live, is the largest town in Cochise County . Cochise County is huge and borders Sonora , Mexico . The bald-headed guy is the Sheriff of Pima County. Tucson , AZ , is in Pima County .

This video doesn't say so, but Hwy 8, going from I-10 north of Tucson, thru Gila Bend and on to CA has a sign warning drivers not to stop or pick up hitchhikers because so many are illegals who have illegally come across the border from Mexico. They can be Mexican or of any other foreign country.
Powerful!! And absolutely factual!

Editor's post: I lost a good friend this weekend, "Popcorn", as everyone knew him. He was very involved in local politics in the black community, often times to their chagrin. He did not believe in playing the "race card" or voting Democrat or for a black person just because they were black or a Democrat.

He voted for the best person for the job.

I spent countless hours engaging him in conversation about matters across the county and local politics for a decade, rarely did we disagree. He was a free thinker and for that I admired him greatly. I will miss him and our weekly, sometimes near daily, chats.

He taught me a great deal about the inner workings of the local Democrat party and the political machine they hold in the county. For that I am grateful.

May God give his family comfort in his passing.

I got a good laugh after reading the post by the "white liberal" and I want to thank them for pointing some things out. I want to thank them for demonstrating how well the left uses accusations to make their points. Maybe they forget that a lot of us grew up saying "sticks and stones may break our bones, but names will never hurt us". This person better get good with sticks and stones in order to protect themselves in case they face an intruder or their family is threatened. Those pesky criminals out there will probably not turn in their weapons and opt to use sticks and stones themselves. Doesn't sound like a fair fight to me.  Good thing our government isn't trying to limit our second amendment rights. Oh, wait...they are.

Control is an interesting word. I guess it depends on how well the truth is hidden from folks on whether they recognize that they are being controlled or not. Again, the example of the poor frog again. He is just sitting in the water and coming to a slow boil. That poor frog never sees the truth of what is happening to him. I doubt if he knew someone was going to control his destiny that he would ever have allowed himself to be in that pot. I guess he didn't know the true motives of the one in control.

As far as abortion goes, who controls the destiny of the baby? The woman may have control of her own body, but does that give her the right to have control over the life of that baby? That kind of life and death control is pretty serious stuff.  There is one life that has no control in that situation-that of the unborn child. If someone kills a pregnant woman and her unborn child in a car accident, the person is held responsible for two lives. Is an unborn child only a person if the mother wants to allow it to be born? If a woman doesn't want the child then it is OK to kill that baby and it doesn't matter? Can someone explain that logic to me? Again, that kind of control over the life and death of another person is pretty mind boggling if one honestly thinks about it.

I thought we were guaranteed the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Seems like all three of those are being threatened by the desire of others to control them. We owe it to ourselves and our country to think it through.

Editor's note: According to Democrats, liberals, and ObamaCare; being pregnant is a "medical condition", not "being with child".

I, the White Conservative, have thoroughly despised the recent hate-filled drivel of the White Liberal in Wandering Minds. You arrogant jerk of the left have brought hate and intolerance to a new low. You're not any better at sniveling, hating, and whining than Obama. Pathetic!

There is a REASON we lost to Obama by FIVE MILLION VOTES. Some people WORK for a living, the others VOTE for a living. Do you honestly think you will ever win another Presidential election? When will you stop making war on the great workers of America? Many groups have identified the Republicans as their enemy, because the Republicans; if given half a chance, would make them work for a living, would balance the federal budget and would stop liberals from committing mass killings and putting bullets through their victims’ brains (the last SIX mass killings in the US were committed by LIBERALS including registered democrats and Obama campaign workers!). Rather blunt, but true. Yep, rather true.

I know African-Americans, Gays, Women of child-bearing age, Immigrants (legal and illegal), Medicaid recipients....etc believe that we are the enemy because we demand accountability. Their friends believe we are the enemy because we demand that laws be enforced. Heck, even their enemies believe we are the enemy because they see a free lunch. Unfortunately, there were FIVE MILLION fewer of us than there are of you voting last time. I wouldn’t count on that again.

Group hug time...Stop trying to run peoples' lives. Is it a liberal view to tell Americans what to do with their guns? Sounds rather intrusive to me. You dummies will only drive gun ownership to the criminals. It won't stop ...Only law abiding citizens will die without one. Besides, gun ownership has been constitutional law for 235 years now...The Supreme Court will not reverse it and you will not get 37 states to approve a constitutional amendment. Give it up, dummies! Ain't gonna happen!

Do I really need to go through all these issues...Better stop, your eyes have rolled back and you probably have your hand in someone else’s pocket by now...

This past Monday, after 45 years of marriage, my wife has passed away in her sleep. I would like to thank the following people whose help and support were indespensible. To Hospice of South Carolina. Never have I met more wonderful people in my life. They came in, cleaned her, put fresh clothes on her and got her ready for transport. To Betty Bland for her compassion and being a  very detaled person. My wife was to be cremated and she said she didn't think she would have her ready in time for the funeral which was Thursday, but she did. She got the death certificates in two days which normally take a week,  and her ashes came back in time for the funeral. I just wanted to say, "Thank you, Betty." And finally to the probate office and Judge Peeler and Debra Griffin who both went out of their way to help speed up the process.
We are truly blessed here in Edgefield County to have people like this. There is no way I could ever thank you for all you have done.

To preserve our blessed land we must look to God... It is time to realize that we need God more than He needs us... We also have His promise that we could take to heart with regard to our country, that "If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Let us, young and old, join together, as did the First Continental Congress, in the first step, in humble heartfelt prayer. Let us do so for the love of God and His great goodness, in search of His guidance and the grace of repentance, in seeking His blessings, His peace, and the resting of His kind and holy hands on ourselves, our nation, our friends in the defense of freedom, and all mankind, now and always.

The time has come to turn to God and reassert our trust in Him for the healing of America... Our country is in need of and ready for a spiritual renewal. Today, we utter no prayer more fervently than the ancient prayer for peace on Earth.

If I had a prayer for you today, among those that have all been uttered, it is that one we're so familiar with: "The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace...." I do not support the proposed new baiting regulations. I believe it is just a further reflection of our shallow culture and our lack of appreciation for the resources that still manage to exist. And what are we teaching future hunters? Some of the newer hunting programs love to show young men killing deer next to automatic feeders, music playing as if it were a rock video. The legislature has started a boulder rolling down the hill that they will never be able to stop. As wildlife habitat continues to shrink and our waters become more polluted we do not need to expedite the extermination process. You may think there are plenty of fish, fowl and game now, but what opportunities will exist for our future generations? Check out the history books and see what species of wildlife that were documented and existed here in the Carolinas at the beginning of the arrival of Europeans. I have heard many say that there are deer everywhere and more than there have ever been. The truth is we humans are everywhere and deer only rebounded to existing populations after almost being exterminated previously. I have hunted and fished in South Carolina my whole life. I believe there is more to the hunting experience beside dropping a deer over a pile of corn. There is more to a fishing trip besides a freezer bag full of filets while the other 80% of the fish gets wasted. A true conscientious hunter does not need to pile corn on the ground to put deer meat on the table. A deer killer, maybe so. I am sure the almighty dollar is driving the new regulations just as it drives most things, and baiting will be legal here in the piedmont. I sincerely hope our young and future outdoorsmen are taught to appreciate and prefer the alternative to baiting.

Editor's note: I actually agree as a former deer hunter. I think the law should have gone the other way and banned it across the state. I do think there should be exceptions to the law. I know of people who were charged for baiting deer when all they were doing was taking pictures of them in their back yard. Homeowners will often pile corn a distance away from their gardens to keep the deer out and that can result in a baiting charge.

We as Americans are sick and tired of these type of politicians and so called representatives of the people.  Everyone goes around and says, "Oh, he's so nice."; Oh, he's such a gentleman."; "Oh, he's such a good negotiator." Sickening.  If we are to survive as a country, we need LEADERS - NOT GLAD HANDERS!  Shane Massey is so nice.  John McCain is so moderate.  Lindsey Graham is such a gentleman.  Mitt Romney is a nice guy.  The litmus test should be, would any one of these "gentleman" be willing to pick up a rifle and protect this nation from tyranny like our forefathers?  I doubt it!  Even McCain, who really is nothing but a sell-out, and self-adoring "war-hero".  He's no (darned) war hero.  He's a traitor, and I would bet he sold his buddies out behind the walls of his cell when he was a P.O.W.  Hell, look how he sells out his country on a daily basis.  It's all a show from McCain and Graham, has anyone been held accountable for Benghazi?  Nope.  It's nothing but theater!

We need people that will represent us all the time, not just around election time, right Shane, McCain, Graham?  We need people that realize we are fighting a very corrupt and corrosive enemy, unless of course they already know this, they just want to remain one of the politic-elite.

Remember this my friends and countryman - you all may think this to be too harsh and not gentlemanly, but there was also this thinking prior to our own revolution for freedom.  Only a very small percentage of the population was willing to, and did, die for this country, the rest didn't want to get involved, they were the Loyalists.

I have a question for the "Democrats" out there. Do you really know for sure that your beliefs are aligned with the progressives? Are you really sure what their agenda is and where they want this country to go? It is worth looking into. The progressives of today are not the Democrats of yesterday. We need to be sure our values are honored by the people we support. Maybe as Americans we need to stop and think about what personal values we actually hold. The lines are pretty blurry these days.

It is a little hard to know what the real agenda is for some of these folks, but again, look at the actions. Words have gotten a lot of places into trouble. Look at Germany, Cuba etc. We may need to do some hard homework on what happened in some of these places. They didn't fall over night and they had leaders who got the people all excited about the promises they made. Where did they end up?

We all just need to wake up and be alert to what is really going on around us. Again, what are the results of the policies of these folks. Words are persuading but the actions are what matter.

Editor's note: I have received countless requests for such a map, and many within the last few weeks. To undertake such a project would be very costly and time consuming and would be useless in the end. The Edgefield County Sheriff's Office alone reports between 500 and 600 calls a month, not just phone calls, but actual deputy - citizen contact. Not all of those are criminal complaints, but you can see how the dots would start to obscure the current situation.

Edgefield Daily tries to spotlight areas that are being targeted for burglary and violent crimes in any given timeframe. We keep at least three weeks of the most recent reporting on our Headlines page for that reason.

To the average American who does not follow much in politics, policy etc. what they heard yesterday may have sounded OK. I am not sure there is much discernment in many minds these days.  Words, words, words and hype, hype, hype. The President says he wants this country to come together. Really? There is more divide in this country than ever before in my lifetime. Whether it is racial divide, financial divide, religious divide... the list goes on. There is a true attempt to demonize certain segments of our country. The problem I have is when I look at a political map of the country, it is overwhelmingly red not blue. The pockets of control in our elections are part of the problem. The Republicans didn't lose because Romney was a Mormon, the Republicans lost because the power pockets and the two coasts of this country are liberal. The media, as much as Conservatives yap about them, are liberal and the majority of Americans live their lives and listen to bits and pieces of the news that comes out of these liberal outlets. Unfortunately, they believe the words and the hype. They don't take the time to look at the actions of the people that speak these words and put on the hype.  There is no accountability. Many of us just live our lives basically asleep and uninformed as to what is going on.

There are various reasons the Republicans lost this last election. We have a culture that wants to be taken care of and they feel they have a right to be taken care of by their government. Hard working Americans are paying the price. How do we change the self centered attitudes of many folks? Once they get the help, it is hard to take it away. Look at Greece. Healthcare is not a right, welfare is not a right, etc. etc. Most of us of the older generation grew up thinking we needed a job to take care of ourselves and our families. We did that. Now we are paying for everyone else who wants to be taken care of .  The problem is, will there be enough left over for us to take care of ourselves?

One thing we do have is our Bill or Rights. We need to focus on what are really our rights and not the ones we have been brainwashed to think are a "right". We do have a right to bear arms. That is the big issue now. I support that but I don't support someone's "right" to healthcare, or welfare or whatever. No one has a "right" to anyone else's success or finances. Those things are not in the Bill of Rights, at least they weren't in there before this President took over.

Editor's post: NBC's Chuck Todd on the inauguration: Obama Speech About Moving Country Toward Liberalism

"I think you heard in the inaugural address today in the way that President Obama believes Ronald Reagan mainstreamed the conservative movement in the 1980s, that one of the things he wants his presidency to do is to basically mainstream the liberal progressive movement in the same way, so if the country is, say, center or center right, you can have this argument that when he leaves that he has mainstreamed it and moved the country more center left. And I think you heard that.

It was a robust defense of a lot of progressive ideals in a way, and, yes, you heard pragmatic pieces to the speech saying, you know, we're not going to get everything we want, things like that, we do need to learn to compromise. It was pretty clear that he was defending government and defending progressivism in a way that you didn't always hear on the campaign trail, frankly."

...And the media could not be happier. Of course, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, are now admitting thier bias and Newsweek is calling Obama's second term the "Second Coming". Welcome to Obama's America, brought to you by your main stream media outlets.

Sometimes I just have to chuckle at the logic of some folks. Not that mine is great, for sure, but sometimes you have to think about the whole picture of an issue. To say you are for freedom, personal rights etc. etc. is great. However, when someone that has other opinions about things, say a local businessman, all of a sudden he is attacked for having freedom of thought and personal rights. Seriously?? I think we have to be careful not to think that the only people who have a right to freedoms and personal thought are those we agree with. Free enterprise is what has made this country what it was. A small business owner is the core of this country and its' success. Let's be careful not to hurt those that are trying to keep small businesses alive. Let's be sure we are staying true to our own core beliefs and not doing the same thing the Progressives are doing. They attack those that think differently because they are threatened by different thought. Their attacks come out of a fear of the other side's beliefs.  They attack because they don't have real answers or solutions that will work.

This country is founded on the freedom to think and believe as we choose. If you don't want to do business with someone, that is fine, but don't attack them. Don't make a small business owner the enemy. For goodness sakes, Republicans and Conservatives stand for small business, free enterprise etc. Think about what this last election was all about.  We have to be careful not to be hypocrites.

Sometimes the fog gets so thick we can't see where we are going. Our country is in a terrible fog right now. Let's just hope we can focus on what the real issues are and not get sucked into a lot of angry reactions. Our freedom is at stake. All Americans' freedom is at stake. Let's make sure we are protecting everyone's freedom and not just those we agree with.

It is sad that some one had to loose their business and lively hood do to some peoples wanting to be violent and destroy others and their well being. Is it Drugs and Thugs, or is it Gangs going in Sane. So they can drive without a license,  after stealing the vehicle and taking it to someone else’s house anf yet he was at work again today. I made one statement (provoked in kind) and had a wonderful night trying to sleep with a GI problem that I thought was going to burn a hole in the sheet. Ref..Sheriff supporting 2d Ammendment
How many black U.S Sheriffs have publicly stated they Will Not support This fake president's attempt
to urinate on the Constitution's 2d Ammendment? Answer...None. I doubt the Edgefield Sheriff will go against Obama and I bet this Sheriff will not support America's Oath Keepers, who are multiplying daily
throughout our country dedicated to defending the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.
If Obama were to issue an order to confiscate all firearms from American households, you can be sure this Sheriff would be at your front door. I hope I am wrong with my comments, but am waiting with others to know whether Sheriff Doeby supports the Obama Communist Party or whether he is an Oath Keeper.

Editor's note: Knowing Sheriff Dobey personally - I know he supports the 2nd Amendment.

Now the second amendment should be a little clearer to everyone.
This movie lasts less than four minutes and is well worth the time.

NEWS FLASH!!
A public school teacher was arrested today at John F.  Kennedy International airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a compass, a slide-rule and a calculator.  At a morning press conference, Attorney General Eric Holder said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement.

He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction.

'Al-Gebra is a problem for us', the Attorney General said.  'They derive solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute values.' They use secret code names like "X" and "Y" and refer to themselves as "unknowns" but we have determined that they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country.  As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."

When asked to comment on the arrest, President Obama said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes." White House aides and major news sources told reporters they could not recall a more intelligent or profound statement by the President.  It is believed that another Nobel Prize will follow...

Over the past few year, I have purchased numerous firearms frm Sam at his hardware store. I have always been given a fair price and friendly service. I know Sam is a lifelong hunter. His Dad was a key component of the NWTFcoming to Edgefield and received their highest honor before he passed. I consider myself to be a Liberterian. Sam, like many Democrats on various levels do not support all of the President's proposals on Gun Control (Now refered to as Gun Violence Control). Just because Sam is a Democrat, does not mean he supports all of the President's proposals. Let's give Sam a litle slack on this despite him being a member of the local Democratic party.

Most of us in South Carolina do not support bans on "assault weapons" and high capicity magazines. We have too much common sense. And many of the Sheriffs in South Carolina have publicly said they do not support such bans. Instead, they support more money for thementaly ill and stiffer penalities for those felons who have guns. But I wonder what our Edgefield County Sheriff's position is? Will he make a publicstatement as his counterparts have done? If so, I think he knows the position he must state if another term is what he desires. And will he have his Department enforce federal laws on this issue against the citizens' will? Time to speak up Sheriff just as others in your position have done.

I have been thinking about a certain Democrat in Edgefield who, from his stated beliefs, does not really sound like the Democrat (Progressive) of today. It reminded me of Susana Martinez, the Republican Governor of New Mexico. She was a lifelong Democrat but after meeting and talking issues with some Republicans, she and her husband got in the car and she said to her husband, "Damn, we are Republicans". In this day of politics, we need to be sure we know who we are supporting and what agenda we are supporting. We cannot rely on the old labels we have grown up with. As a lifelong Republican, I am seriously watching the way the leadership in my party is behaving. I am not sure I will continue as a Republican if they don't stand up for the conservative issues I believe in. Right now, "Independent" may be a better label for me. I just want to be sure my beliefs are aligned with those I vote for and support. I think the only honest way we can deal with the politics of our times is to be true to ourselves and our beliefs. It matters. It really does, because things have changed.
web posted January 21, 2013

Over the years I have given a great deal of thought about what I believe in as far as politics, social issues, etc are concerned.  I have come to the conclusion that  I am an independent that leans  conservative / libertarian.  So in a nutshell I believe in less government and freedom! I vote Republican the majority of the time not because I agree 100% with the Republican platform, but that I agree with the Republican position on most issues.  I have occasionally voted for the Democrat from time to time especially in state and local elections because they were the  better choice. Any person who votes straight party is a fool especially when it comes to local politics! Being a person who has Libertarian views  I believe in the right to own a gun and to defend my family and home against harm. I believe in personal and economic liberty! If you are not familiar with the Libertarian platform you may want to go to the Libertarian party website to read what they are about. I desire to live my life in peace and freedom. I believe that the protection of individual rights is the purpose of government.

So less government and stay the hell out of my personal life and business are my core beliefs! I believe that Ronald Reagan a Republican was the greatest President in the history of the United States and that Jim Hodges a Democrat was the best Governor of SC in the last 50 years. Now that you know what I'm about, so you don't think I'm a dreaded liberal,  I think its a shame that the gentleman who operates the store on the Edgefield Square has been targeted by some local  yokel who obviously has a chapped behind because the gentleman is active in the Democrat party! I do not know the store owner personally but I do know that he and his family have been good and productive citizens of Edgefield for many years. Obviously the store owner believes in the Second Amendment to the Constitution and sells firearms in his business. Good grief I don't believe in everything the Republican party stands for and I doubt he believes in everything the Democrat party stands for! You know it should not surprise anyone that someone has chosen to bash the store owner, because Edgefield has a history of this type behavior.

This person does have the right to choose who he does business with, but to target someone in the manner that he has is wrong. It is the typical mindset of many an Edgefield man, bash your neighbor and drive to Aiken/Augusta to spend your money, because God forbid that one of your neighbors makes a dollar! It must be a miserable life to envy someone else to the point that you would attack them in the way that you have. So shut up, and if you choose go buy your guns in Aiken, but don't tell me where to buy mine! As a matter of fact I'll spend my money in the store on the Square just because of you.

A note to the Editor,  I do enjoy Edgefield Daily. Your news is great on your main page and I get a good laugh every morning reading Wandering Minds. That's some brutal but funny stuff! Keep up the good work!

Marcus Tullius Cicero regarding the danger of internal subversion. In a speech to the Roman Senate, as recorded by Sallust, Cicero said:
"A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victim, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. The traitor is the plague."

RE: "Opinion: Writer Supports Fair Tax Solution"

There are two in depth (in explanation) books written by Neil Boortz and Congressman Linderman that explains the Fair Tax.  The first book explains it well, the second was written to debunk a lot of the rumors and falsehoods the Democrats and some Republicans were spreading to say it was a bad idea.

Funny, after the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact (Soviet Empire) most of those countries to include Russia, went to the Fair Tax System and they are always in the black.  See, not only do communist learn from their mistakes, but they learn from ours as well.

I am not curious about his beliefs. The fact that he is vice-chairman of the Democrat party is evidence enough of what he believes. The Democrat party of today is the party of Obamaphones, and massive debt. There is also abortion, up to and including partial birth. You are aware of what that is, I presume. He is vice-chairman. TODAY. They deliberately left God out of their party platform until word got out. Then they put Him back in. There is no shame greater. He is the vice-chairman of that party. TODAY. Trust me, it is not just a few bad apples spoiling this bunch, they are rotten all the way through. I have found that if I dislike or disagree with something, I try not to associate or be associated with it. I am certainly not vice-chairman of it. Now that the Democrats are trying to disarm America, I wonder where the vice-chairman's loyalty lies. Will he turn over the list of guns and ammunition bought over the years to Obama's goon squads? I wonder. After all he is vice-chairman of the Democrat party. TODAY. Do you really want to talk about FDR and his alphabet soup list of federal programs. We are stuck to this day with the overreaching federal government that he created. A lot of which were created via executive order. Where have we seen that? It was and is the blueprint for government overreach and dependence that is now seemingly uncontrollable. The Democrats are actively desecrating our beloved country. Guess who is vice-chairman of that very same party? That's right, TODAY.

I never said they were great, but they were a far cry from the Democrats of today.

Roosevelt was dying during his last term...enough said. The American people spoke for Truman in The Great Upset of 1948, against Thomas Dewey, despite all the corruption during his presidency. How many presidents since then have not been involved in some sort of corruption?

The fact is, our country DID come out of the Depression during the Roosevelt/Truman years.

If you're so curious about his political beliefs, why not go in and ask him yourself? Perhaps he stands firm to the beliefs of the real Democrats of old and not what a few bad apples of today have labeled the Democratic party in the eyes of the far right. Franklin Roosevelt was the only president in history to be elected for more than two terms,(I Wonder why?) and he, along with Truman led our nation out of the Great Depression, so they must have been doing something right. Did you ever think that if our recent Republican candidates weren't equally as pathetic in their own way that a Republican might be in the White House instead of Obama?
By the way, I'm not a Democrat or Republican because BOTH of my eyes are open.

Editor's note: Roosevelt was a farce for his last term. Germany struck again because of the weakness of America after the economy was turned over to the newly created Federal Reserve (1913 - I think there was another World War about that time too). If it had not been for WW2, the recovery from the depression would have taken years longer.

Truman's administration was riddled with corruption and extended into the Korean War. These are your exhibits of great Democrats? Every problem we have now can be traced back to Roosevelt.
