Lamb, Percival, and James , my dear friends of Edgefield County I am sure we have not heard everything about this men.I bet they are going to come out and say they were molested as a Child, isn't that what is alway  the reason they did what they did.
Well I done buy that, if people look back far enought in there Child hood they can come up with something that caused them to do a Criminal act to a Child. I don't buy that, You are so sick that prison is not good enough for you.
May God bless these young Girls.

RE: "If I were the judge [of Lamb, Percival, and James], my sentence would be to surgically remove the offending appendages!!!  Without anesthesia!!!

If that were the penalty for conviction of rape or molestation, I strongly suspect that particular crime would be almost non-existant in short order!!!  Make an example of a few, and the rest of the would-be-offenders will get the picture very quickly.  :-)))

There were multiple items being delivered..."a heavy cabinet and other hardware".   My problem with this is simple.  It seems you went out of your way to slam this company when all they were doing was their job and helping the county.  It clearly says in the “Rules” of your Wandering Minds page that “Business names will NOT be mentioned”.

I agree that in the way you portrayed it...yes it looks like blatant disregard for the law.  However that is simply not the case.  The equipment needed to be unloaded, they did as they were instructed and moved the van as soon as it was completed.  Was it the ideal situation?...No, however it was not done in a harmful or disrespectful manner and you were clearly trying to slam them when you said “they were too lazy to walk another 5 feet”.  I understand you have to have items to write about, but this is a reputable company that gives back to the community and employees about 30 people.  Their reputation is very important and your disparaging remarks are damaging to the company and to the livelihood of their employees.

Editor's note: There is no excuse for taking up a Handicapped parking place (1 of 2) for days to "unload" computer equipment". No other vendor has ever done so, what is their excuse? Or, should I say, your excuse? Even the Sheriff's Office who offloads prisoners during court does not use the spaces. Is EDTS so special they can break the law with impunity?

I would like to take a moment to say that I have been reading everything about the sex offenders. I lived in Edgefield my whole life and even went to school with one of them.  I think that everyone has lost sight of what was really important: there are children involved in  this whole mess that are now going to be scarred for the rest of their lives! They didn't ask for this and they look to adults for protection!  I know that these men have families too and I am sure that they are upset but these men chose their sick and twisted path and any punishment they receive can not begin to repair the damages done. If you ask me, they should put them in special jumpsuits in prison with a label telling their crimes and let the inmates have at them because that is one thing that even most criminals know is WRONG!!!!

Sincerely
Former Edgefield Resident

Hmmmmm.  Do you recall when Governor Mark Sanford did not want to take the $700 million "stimalus" money the Federal Government was trying to shove down South Carolina's throat?  He was chided, castigated, berated, and publicly ridiculed for wanting not to accept the money from the Federal "stimalus" package?  And who was it that publicly pillaried Gov Sanford?   Hmmmmm.  Public employee worker unions? Teachers unions?  Didn't they say he was going to hurt the children because it would cause teacher layoffs, yadda, yadda, yadda.

So get this.  Wisconsin also received $701 million dollars of the Federal stimalus money.  Approximately 90%, or $642 million of that stimalus was used to keep from laying off teachers and public employee union workers.  And look where Wisconsin is now, or should it be - where they are again?  Right back to where they were.  Somewhat where our school district is huh?  The union thugs got Sanford to accept the "stimalus" through public ridicule, then they doled it out to their teachers union who spread it out to the districts, and staved off layoffs for what 1-2 years?  And where are we?

We all love our children.  We all want our children to receive a good education.  But we also all want our children to learn responsibility.  We have great teachers, good teachers, and bad teachers.  Guess what.  Because of the way the teachers union is set up, try getting rid of a bad teacher. IT CAN'T BE DONE!  That welfare program needs to stop.  Bad workers, bad employees get fired, but bad teachers stay in the system and bleed it of money in compensation, benefits, and pensions, meanwhile our schools SUCK!  Year after year all you get is a percentage point or two change which is generally the result of manipulating the statistic formula.  When it's down they blame bad parenting, no parental involvement, not enough money, crowded class rooms, etc.  When its up, they pat themselves on the back and give themselves a raise.  Yeah, sure, good teachers want to get rid of bad teachers too, but where are those goods teachers standing up?  Are they standing up in Wisconsin?  Nope?  Did they stand up here in Edgefield? Nope.  Why?  Because the union thugs and the tactics employed by the Superintendent do exactly what they are designed to do-keep the teachers in line, sit down, shut up, and don't you dare open your mouth or we won't renew your contract.

And now the teachers nationwide want us to have sympathy for them?  Instead of standing up and trying to clean up the system, they're standing up and trying to protect their own @$$3$.  We no longer have the sympathy you once garnered and we've learned you've used our children to stay employed, reap good benefits, and harvest good pensions, all while allowing the system to fail us all. Shame Shame shame.

While we are on the subject of breaking the law by parking in handicapped spots, I wonder if that law also applies to the Edgefield Police Dept?

One officer I see routinely sitting parked in the handicapped spot at the corner of Buncombe and Simpkins.  He was there this morning as I came by around 7:00 am.  I usually see him there once or twice a week.  Maybe I will take a picture next time I see the car there.

Re: Ronnie Lamb

Never knew what "ruffled your feathers" meant. But, ok. Defending a person that is accused of sexually abusing little girls lets everyone know that rape is ok to you. Maybe the ones that are defending Ronnie Lamb should register as a sex offender. Is there something we all should know.  Committing these acts would never be reported outside of your home. That's scary. What so funny, you are defending Ronnie Lamb, but not Wallace Percival or Marcus James. MMMMMM. Enough said. What if it was your loved one? Daughter, granddaughter or your helpless elderly parent? You would do what you had to do to keep these criminals off the street. Blood related or not, WRONG is WRONG. Defending such a hideous crime to put these sex offenders back on the streets, why would someone do that? Keep them in jail & hope they can get help for this sickness. And seeing is believing????? Tell it to the victims. They've seen enough.

On behalf of the public I want to thank you for the story you did on the two girls in Columbia county
that had been molested by the three men, but if I can persuade you to dig just a little deeper you may find a real life hero's story there.

You see, these little girls have been forced to do unimaginable sex acts that would cause a porn star to be ashamed. They have been molested, (removed), lives threatened, and the lives of their (family) threatened, abused mentally and physically for years. From the time that they should have been playing with baby dolls till the time that some young man would have been inviting them to the school prom they were being manhandled by these ungodly beast from hell.

Just so you can get some hint of an idea what these brave young girls faced day in and day out you can find pictures of  these beast here,

You know their names Ronnie Lamb the leader of this bunch Wallace Percival his cousin and Marcus James a co-worker with lamb.

All this is a matter of record of course, but some may wonder why these kids didn't come forward sooner. Educated school counselors say, surely we would have seen the signs if there had really been any abuse. Well, that's where the real hero part comes in you see, Ms school counselor. These brave young girls would probably have preferred death rather than that torture day after day, but because they were warned that if they breathed a word or made any indication that anything was wrong that he would kill their (family members) and make them watch. HERO'S PERSONIFIED!

I beg you please, for the sake of those precious girls follow this story, millions will want to hear about this. I purposely didn't even scratch the surface of the ferocity of those attacks, but hey, look at those pictures closely and imagine if it were you, a grown up woman facing three of those beast at one time for as long as they wanted to keep you.

May God Keep you Well

Editor's note: There are three victims, not two.

Editor's post: There is a misconception about the victims in the sex crimes Lamb, Percival, and James are accused of. There are three victims they are accused of molesting. There is a lot more that the public is not aware of and I am not at liberty to disclose.

Over a dozen comments on both sides of the issue have been rejected due to providing information that would lead to the identification of the victims, which is protected. Mr. Percival, Mr. James, and Mr. Lamb,
Should you be proven guilty of the repeated molestation and rape of those young girls, may you be reminded of your brutality and sick, perverted behavior each day by large, angry and aggresive cell mates.  May they teach you in a very real way what you put those girls through.  And finally, may those large, angry, aggresive cell mates show you absolutely no mercy.  Perhaps they will even hit you in the head while you perform "acts" on them.  Sound familiar?  Have fun boys!

Re:  Ronnie D. Lamb

I think Captain Steve Morris of the Columbia County Sheriff's Office sums it up quite well!  Don't think there will be any further need of comments defending Ronnie Lamb, Wallace Percival and their "new" buddy!  And I  seriously doubt the Sheriff was just offering his opinion.  These filthy men need to be thrown into prison and never have the opportunity to even look at another little girl.  I feel only sympathy for the relatives of these men.  What shame they have brought to their families!  If I were the judge, (oh, I'd love to be their judge) my sentence would be to surgically remove the offending appendages!!! Without anesthesia!!!

Editor's note: From the information I have I do not understand why Percival was not charged with criminal sexual conduct in the 1st degree. In my opnion, he should have the charges elevated and held without bond with Lamb and James. In for a penny, in for a pound. I am not saying they are guilty, just that they should all be charged for the same crime.

If any other of our presidents had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, wouldn't you have winced in embarrassment?

If any other of our presidents had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?

If any other of our presidents' administrations had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?

If any other of our presidents had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans, would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

If any other of our presidents had created the position of 32 Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in America , would you have ever approved.

If any other of our presidents had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive?

Thank you to the editor for correcting the "Grandmother" issue. People seem to speak without knowing the facts or clearly understanding what they are reading. I do not believe the mother let Wallace Percival out of jail. I believe that was your fine judicial system in Edgefield County that let Wallace out. The mother is fighting real hard to get justice for her daughters by making sure everyone involved gets punished. And until you are a victim of sexual abuse, you have no idea how YOU would react. We are talking about a horrific crime that happened to 2 little girls, have some compassion. Ronnie D. Lamb appeared to be someone he wasn't and was very good at it.

Come on ECSD if we have a sex offender in our area that is unaccounted for , give us a picture of him. It does not take two days to verify this information!!!

Editor's note: Greenwood County is the one who has yet to name the sex offender. The Edgefield County Sheriff's Office is not having any luck getting the information either. The Edgefield County Sheriff's Office did not even know about the anklet being found until contacted by Edgefield Daily. Calls to The Greenwood County Sheriff's Office and SC Dept. of Pardons and Parole have resulted in being passed off from one person to another.

Just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, doesn't it?

Trust me, if this was an offender in Edgefield County his name, picture, and information would be available within an hour without our asking for information.

In response to the comments of the "Grandmother" article, it sounds like someone is turning the pedophile into the victim.  You'd be astounded to learn what a pedophile says to get cooperation from his unwilling victims. He will threaten to beat or kill them or their family members. Pedophiles will tell children that this is what "love" is. How sick is that! They do not care what they have to do or who gets harmed to full fill their lust. They are monsters, a child's worst nightmare! Do some research before fingers start flying across the keyboard. You evidently have a computer and know how to use it, unlike the the grandmother you mentioned.  Look up what a pedophile does to children.  Get educated!  The child nor mother nor grandmother is not the criminal here.  Trying to defend these perverted individuals is why your town is full of them ( from reading the other articles).  If you have children, do you want yours to be next?  And to the comment of family members being sex offenders,  why would you want them near you unless you think rape is OK!  They will turn on you to satisfy their perverted needs.  Get real, would you like for a convicted murderer to live with you?

I read this in the news today. A black woman got offended when a movie mangr told them to cut off their cell phones and be quiet and then had people file a complaint to get $1,500 each because they were black and he was white so it was racist. "One person in the theater who stood up and announced her opinion that the manager's actions were racist was Juana Fuentes-Bowles, then the director of the state's Human Relations Division, according to the ruling. Fuentes-Bowles, who apparently did not announce her title but said she was "an attorney or someone who worked for an attorney," then collected names and phone numbers of patrons who were offended. A division employee then called patrons and organized a meeting, including Fuentes-Bowles, after which a complaint was drafted."

The court threw it out as wrong on so many levels.... and STOOPID!

No, with this crowd, it runs deeper. You would hope that three generations out of slavery would be long enough, but it's not and there are still a lot of pent up resentment that just won't shake. Black folks rightly or wrongly are still bitter over what is the plight of black folks in America.

Just this past Sunday as I was getting ready to head back to (removed), the movie the Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman was on TV. This movie and "Roots" is typical when it comes to inflaming racial passions and it just makes everybody mad.

Throw ignorance and poor education in the mix and you get pack mentality behavior that just keeps on keeping on.

Nowhere in the post does it state the writer is the "grandmother", just a grandparent. Parents are often the last to know about a sexual assualt. Children are fearful to report the incidents until they are older.

RE:  Grandmother
I don't believe for one minute that this is the grandmothers words. She does not even know how to use a computer. These sound like the words of the mother herself. I've known them since school and they never seemed terrified to me . Hugging and loving on someone your terrified of? or even bragging about how rich they were , how big their house was. Sure wasn't terrified even after the split when he was handing out money. I just didn't see it.

RE: Grandmother of child molester victims
I would like to know why the mother is fighting so hard to keep Ronnie behind bars but let Wallace walk free. In my book a sex crime is a sex crime.I would also like to know how a mother and you grandmother could not see this happening.

I wondered what the source was of such a vial, disgusting and self-esteem lacking creature that feels that it is acceptable to throw trash from their vehicle.  (and by the way,  smokers, .....yes, your ashes and cigarette butts are trash as well)

To me, the action of littering is inconceivable.  It is non-justifiable.  The results of this transgression are embarrassing and painful to look at.  I often wonder what visitors from civilized countries think when they visit here.  They probably think that our claims to be "ahead" of the rest of the world fall a little short.

I would also assume that the average "litterer" does not read this venue, (and is probably illiterate) so my rant is probably futile.  But someone's got to say it!

Ref..."why is everyone worried where sex offenders live?"

This is got to be one of the stupidest questions of the year? You probably have a sex offender living with you and if so, you and your sex offender should leave this county. I'll bet you voted for Obama and are a Democrat. I could care less if sex offenders aren't given a chance and I could care less if they are trying to go straight. As far as I am concerned, sex offenders are garbage and most people who care about their family members want sex offenders to be no where in sight or sent to say....Africa where they will be greeted and eaten. It is obvious the writer of this 'Question of the Year' has no clue to how decent people live and can't grasp the reality of the threat and damage committed by these sex offenders, because this person is related to one.

My response to you is get out of town and take your loving sex offender with you. Any family member stupid enough to let a sex offender live with them is endangering a lot of innocent people.  I believe the reason why Johnston has so many thriving sex offenders is because relatives let them live with them and probably these relatives get some state money for doing so..very similar to welfare and EBT cards. Someone has figured out how to get 'MO' money from the state and I believe having a sex offender living in same household qualifies for such. Prove Me Wrong.

Here is a question for you Johnston Town Council members, "How about putting into the city ordinance a law or stipulation which requires sex offenders living in the city have some form of electronic tracking device attached to them at all times. Get with it Town Council, this city has a problem with sex offenders and you need to fix it, before it gets out of hand (one way or the other), which it already has when last week a sex offender hurt an innocent lady. Go ask her family members if sex offenders need to be given a second chance and especially one in Johnston. And quit giving a crap about their civil rights. Sex offenders gave up their civil rights when they molested a innocent human being.

Remember a couple of years ago when the budget was a concern?  Sister Sallie sat up there like a little school girl clapping and cheering that they may receive some "stimalus" money.  Br Bibbs and Crenshaw were right there with her.  They kicked the can down the road and received their "stimalus" money.  Instead of operating within their budget or finding ways to trim the excess, they continued their merry little ways.  Now, their chickens have come home to roost.  They should all be removed from office, or fired.  Their actions are nothing less than malfeasance.  We need to petition Massey and have him put forth legislation that would allow us to recall, and change the rules for eligibility to run to get rid of the likes below.

And as for Cocaine Jackson being able to run even though he owes money.  Hey, it's legal.  But we all agree, if you're on that list, you shouldn't be allowed to run.  And let's not forget what a deadbeat he really is.  He initially owed $17,000+/-, but talked them into reducing his amount based on the fact they "he" never received the letter. (Probably didn't receive the letter because they sent it to the residence he said he was living at and really wasn't)  So he talked them down to $2500 and the deadbeat still hasn't paid them.  Go figure.  And don't forget, he also skipped out on his water bill, that's why they shut it off at the residence he says he lives at.  Regardless of what race, color, or creed you are, why would you want someone like him representing you, your children, or your race?

I want to commend your staff on its reporting and to say in direct contradiction of at least one readers veiw, I believe that your reporting is factual and non-bias........having been in law enforcement for a number of years in edgefield county I have realized that when you answer a call or file a report  on a situation, whether it be civil, illegal, or immoral you always have 2 sides to every story and-even 3 sides at times. You have 1st party story, 2nd party story, and at times the truth about the story.....there have always been those who considered themselves apart from whatever sheds light on their wrongful activities-those who will manipulate any and everybody they have dealings with, to their own end ,whether it be just or unjust. I found that after many years of dealing with people during most all types of circumstances-you do the right thing and you tell the truth no matter the consiquences and everything will work out for the best..........I trust that you and your staff will continue to report truthfully and accurately the news and happenings in our area and stand by that truth.

Editor's note: Thank you for your comment and for reading. Some people have a problem separating the news from the opinions and the reader's comments. To them it is all the same. Opinions published are by their very nature biased. That is why they are clearly labeled as opinions. However, our news is just that, news. The who, what, when, where and how. The building blocks of the truth in real news coverage. That rubs some people the wrong way.

My prayers go to the lady and her family who are now going through the physical and mental trauma associated with this heinous crime committed by one of Johnstons many loose sex offenders. The big question is...would this sex offender still be hiding in his Johnston lair had he not turned himself in to
the authorities? Would his community hide him and not turn him in, because the white Man would get their hands back on him? These questions are what happens when a society begins to feel sorry for the downtrodden black man who really doesn't mean to be a sex offender, but was made to do it by the evil white man. Time for a new form of justice to help these misguided sex offenders find
new locations in which to reside.

Which judge will let sex offender Leroy back into society with a rap on the hand and probation as the sentence? How about the other sex offenders I read about who have not registered and the law does not know where they are? What will their fine or sentence be? I have personally seen many of these sex offenders walking the streets of Johnston as if they have not a care in the world. They are looking
for potential victims and things to steal, because they know that Brother Obama will help them
if they get into trouble. Life is too good in Johnston, Trenton and Edgefield for these creatures, because they know how to manipulate the legal system and the legal system is too timid to make these creatures feel the pressure of being watched.

And they also get plenty of help from those liberal Democrap Judges who feel their pain (not the victims) and release them back into society where they can prey off us with the ease they have grown accustomed to. If Judge Easy Keesley or Judge Clown MacMahon preside, you probably can expect
the offenders to be back in our community living either next door or down the street from your once safe home or business. Next time you see one of the liberal Judges, thank them for making your community a safe one. I think it's time for these Judges to retire, because they are only making fools of themselves and their misguided forms of justice.

Editor's note: I've known Judge Keesley for many years now and I can hardly consider him a "liberal" judge. Do I agree with all of his sentencings? No, but that is true any any court and any judge. I am not defending him, that is not mine to do, but he is a very thorough judge and I respect him and the work he does.

They are always very reliable and often times contain details we are unable to confirm - but are never denied - by law enforcement agencies. In the end they always turn out to be correct. The Editor has a very close working relationship with the local law enforcement agencies due to his tenure and that is something that takes years to develop. Due to the cut-throat nature of the news business our reporters do not stay in one location very long as they are seeking to work their way up the industry food chain and newbie's are not trusted by any law enforcement agency. Edgefield County should be very proud of the Editor and his staff for committing themselves to long-term roots in the county and producing a high quality and timely news product.

A bi-partisan Senate working group which includes Republican Senators Tom Coburn (Oklahoma), Mike Crapo (Idaho), and Saxby Chambliss (Georgia) is considering back door, automatically triggered tax increases as a way to bring down the budget deficit.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the plan which is under consideration would provide for "tax reform" that would generate $180 billion over ten years.  "Tax reform" is the new word for tax hikes just as "investment" is the new word for more spending.  While the Senators are understandably vague about what tax increases they are contemplating, they reportedly want to eliminate various tax deductions and "loopholes."  If the work of the Bowles-Simpson deficit reduction commission (on which Coburn and Crapo sat) is any guide, the loopholes would include reducing or eliminating the mortgage interest, charitable contribution, and state and local tax deductions.

More insidious, the tax proposal has a gimmick: If Congress doesn't raise taxes by the required amount, the law would automatically trigger a cut in all tax deductions equal to the outstanding revenue shortfall.  A tax increase by Immaculate Conception.  Automatic.  No Senatorial fingerprints on it.  In other words: taxation without representation.

RE - Editor's note: Wrong. The "right" revolted over the out of control spending. Maybe you didn't see that his (and Democrats in control of Congress since 2007) agenda has placed the debt at over 100% of the entire American economy. That's some path to "recovery". And his new budget has 15 tax increases while he increases spending by 17%?  Obamanomics will result in further ruin that will make Jimmy Carter look like Ronald Reagan.

Reaganomics is what got us here.

If you had this deal, would you take it?

Lets say you could increase your income by 3 times and your taxes by double?  Would you take that deal?

That is exactly what trickle down has done.  The top 1% in 1980 made 8% all the income and paid 20% of the income taxes.  In 2007, they made 23% of the income and paid 40% of the taxes.  The % of income tripled and the % of tax doubled.

How many times have your said that the "rich" pay all the taxes?????

Well, wouldn't it seem logical if your #1 way of funding was thru individual income taxation, and your best individual income tax payers are paying in at 2/3 the rate they used to pay.....that we have large deficits?

Editor's note: First, no I would not take the deal to double may taxes regardless of how much my income increased. I'm not into the "share the wealth" farce. The wealth I create is mine, not someone else's. I earned it, not them nor the government. Second, I never said the rich pay all the taxes. The chart you sent even shows that when the Democrats took over in 2007 the spending went skyrocketing. And yes, Bush signed the budgets rather than veto them. I lay that blame on him as well as your liberal friends in Congress. Then I also note that Obama has spent more than presidents through the first 200 years of our nation combined in his first two years, with the help of the very same liberal Democrats that controlled Congress.

Somehow you want to blame Republicans and give your wonderful liberal Democrats a free pass. The very same people who led the meltdown of the financial crisis. Who was in control of Fannie Mae and Freedie Mac who were responsible for enforcing the Democrat agenda of lending to people who could not afford to buy houses? Democrats. Pres. Bush tried 15 times in 2007 alone to stop the madness. Barney Frank and the rest of his ilk rebuffed every step until it went to ... well, where it went. And then they blamed Bush, just like you.

Democrats remind me of someone that would slap another person and then blame them for running into their hand. Always the victim and nothing is their fault.

Editor's note: That must have been one big computer. It took all day to move. I guess that was the case for the other days the same van was in the same spot (I took the picture after this continued for several days). If they were just offloading a large computer (I'd still like to see that "computer"), why didn't they just pull up to the steps, offload it, and then move the van from the steps? And who "instructed" the workers to break the law? Do tell. I'd like to get that out in the open as well. Who puts themselves above state law? Maybe they should get the ticket for breaking the law. Now that the new Registered Sex Offender law has passed to ensure registered sex offenders are not allowed within 1000 feet of schools, day care centers, parks, etc, I wonder if all the law enforcers in Edgefield County will begin to help migrate these offenders elsewhere? As Edgefield citizens, it is our civic duty to report to law enforcement any sex offenders we suspect living too close for the law. Our county has become a nice resort for these offenders and NOW is the time to make them unwelcome. I encourage all readers to 'click' onto the Registered Sex Offender site and look at each of Edgefield County's 66 sex offenders. Take the time to know where these creatures reside or hide. We have
some Judges in the county who for whatever reason are lenient when it comes to putting these offenders away for a long time. Most of these Judges are Democraps who are from the Jimmy Carter era and rule in favor for the mistreated and miss-understood sex offender/criminal. For instance, Judge Clown MacMahon ruled in favor of convicted felon Cocaine Jackson for school board eligibility. Clown
MacMahon had to look high and low for a 1800's legal ruling to help Cocaine Jackson win his appeal. If Cocaine Jackson were white this would never have reached Clown Judges desk. This Clown Judge knew what ripple effect he was causing and knuckled under in fear of the naacp THUGS.  And, I strongly believe this Clown Judge and the Jimmy Carter Appointed Judge in town, would rule in
favor for a convicted sex offender to run for Edgefield County School Board. Has Edgefield County sunk this low? Time to take our county back before it is too late.

What was the DOW on 1/20/09?   7949.09

DOW yesterday? 12268.19

Yeah, we're still moving right.  Have been since 1980.  Obama hasn't changed that.

All the stuff listed yesterday was the stuff the lefties care about.  Those things hit the lower and middle class.

Above, is the number the righties care about.  And Obama has hit it out of the park for them.

Editor's note: Wrong.

No wonder he hasn’t been expelled.

I am wondering how Fox Creek High School can claim on Public Radio that they will waive the "out of county" fees for the first sixty out of county students for next year? Don't they still owe Edgefield BOE a lot of $$? And if they waive those fees how will they pay for books and other things that those sixty students will need? Are they hurting so bad to get students for next year? Are their numbers down?
I also love that FCHS has no problem using their non-profit status to use WAFJ for ads. I feel badly for WAFJ having to be associated with them at all. Hopefully people will realize they are not affiliated in any way.

Editor's note: They also took out a full page ad in the North Augusta Star the other week. Nice to know they have so much extra money to throw around to get students out of the county to get a free education on our dime.

I agree with you, wholeheartedly. Innocent until proven guilty!

However, I too have known both defendants my entire life, and just happened to be related! (removed) I believe the charges are true. (removed) this is simply the first time, that he has been caught with enough evidence, to be rightfully convicted. I truly hope that he gets what is due him.

Editor's note: Accusations of similar criminal acts not found in the record were removed from this post. However, there are a list of criminal offences he has been charged with and all but one was dismissed. You can search the Edgefield County public records here. Aiken County records can be found here. Though searching Ronnie Lamb does bring up similar charges in Aiken County, the birth date is off by one number so the crimes are not being listed until verified it is the same Ronnie Lamb.

Not everyone buys junk food or visits the ER for appts because they have food stamps & Medicaid! Not everyone that receives those types of gov't assistance also get housing, transportation or education assistance either. AND I know plenty of SKINNY people on food stamps also!

I can not wait until the day that I do not need gov't help anymore. I look forward to that day with great hope & anticipation! I do NOT buy junk food, but if I buy too much meat, fish or produce I see "you people" complain about that here also! So, which is it? You want us to never have a decent meal or just eat junk? I am not sure it can go both ways. I for one buy as much fish & chicken and produce as I can. I try to feed my children as much healthy food as possible. Should I be condemned for being on food stamps or Medicaid? NO! I work as many hours as my job will allow me and I try hard to raise my children so they will hopefully never need gov't assistance. If their father helped with them more and was not such a deadbeat we would probably not need the help. If the economy was better and I could find a better job we might not also. Since he had a partner that was arrested on the same charge, do we even have to give it a second thought? These two are sick perverted individuals seeking little kids to molest in the worst way. I repeat, little kids!  These children will never be the same.  Their innocents was taken away and their minds damaged. If these two don't serve prison time, there is something seriously wrong with the justice system. These victims, I repeat victimS, have stepped forward to try and stop these men from preying on more innocent children. Yes, you need to see their faces on the news, know where they live, where they work, where they are 24/7.   Keep your child away from them.  They sell themselves to the public as good guys, nice people but alone with a child, they are abusers, pedophiles, monsters.

I’m sure this may tick off a few in the community…but oh, well.  This is directed at the parents in our county who think it’s okay to send an ill student to school.  This past week my spouse, who teaches in the district, had several students come to school not feeling well.  The student told my spouse they weren’t feeling well, and they said they told their parents they weren’t feeling well, yet the student was still brought to school.  Later, the student was observed in another teacher’s class throwing up….and this repeated itself with many other students throughout the week.   It would be nice if many parent would set aside their selfishness and think about not only what they’re exposing the healthy students and teachers to , but also their families.  Many families may have members who may have chronic illnesses. or be undergoing treatment which reduces their immune system (e.g. chemotherapy), and a parent is knowingly  bringing a sick child to school?  Does somebody really need to point out how irresponsible this action is?  Granted, its one thing if you are unaware your child is coming down with something and then becomes ill at school;  however, when a parent tells a teacher, “I think my child may be ill, if they get worse, give me a call”, then don’t get upset if your judgment gets called into question.   Also, any parent worth their salt, who gets to know their kids, well,  they know when their kids are coming down with something even before they get sick;   And if this appeal isn’t enough, think about the poor custodians left to clean up the vomit of your kids, whom you knew were sick.  Please, if you think they’re coming down with something, keep them home…it’s the respectful and responsible thing to do.

Condy is a whole post in itself. If you believe there is WMD in Iraq, then I guess you would be a fan of Condy. As for obesity vs. alcohol/tobacco in rising health care premiums, it's not even close. Obesity at a young age is the major player here. Th kids today are larger, fatter, and less active than hippos on the Plains of the Serenghetti. A life time of health care costs are attached to obesity. Kids become diabetic and start taking insulin, blood pressure medication, and require more visits to doctors and hospitals. Then the vision goes and you have to include eyecare for a lifetime. Then if not watched carefully, you have dialysis. This is the procedure that healthcare experts point to when talking about diabetes/obesity. Dialysis is a huge expense, and is one of those procedures that are reimbursed at a high  percentage of its actual cost. Why do you think there is a Dialysis Center in downtown Edgefield and almost one in every community now.

Whether the child is on private insurance, no insurance, or MediCaid, the costs of obesity runs into the millions of dollars by the time that child expires. This analysis does not even include adults who become obese as adults.

"what then is truth? A movable host of metaphors, metonymies, and anthropomorphisms: in short, a sum of human relations which have been poetically and rhetorically intensified, transferred, and embellished, and which, after long usage, seem to a people to be fixed, canonical, and binding. Truths are illusions which we have forgotten are illusions; they are metaphors that have become worn out and have been drained of sensuous force, coins which have lost their embossing and are now considered as metal and no longer as coins."  Stick that in your Google and smoke it. :)

Many Edgefield county residents I know are just as shocked  to know there are a lot of sex offenders living in large numbers right under our noses. The recent alleged arrest of two more possible sex offenders in our county is another indication that sex offenders are everywhere. Within a mile of where I live, I have found using the new 'sex offender' locator, at least seven sex offenders. I encourage all Edgefield Daily Readers to check out the 'Registered Sex Offender' locator. You may be surprised. Just the other day while driving past (the) liquor Empire, I noticed a known Johnston sex offender casually walking past the store. From my research, Johnston has the greatest number of resident sex offenders. I can only encourage law enforcement to make life uncomfortable for these slime bags and help them relocate elsewhere....say Africa where they will be welcomed and possibly eaten. I know for a fact that some of these sex offenders are from out of state and relocate to this county where they can safely move about under the law enforcement radar thanks to the local Democrap Liberal Judges who let them slip back into our community. Next time you see Brother Bill Keesley or his good Friend Judge Clown MacMahon, give them your thoughts on releasing sex offenders and other criminals back into our community. And, we wonder why property is hard to sell in this county and why no business will locate in either Johnston or Edgefield.

I saw this on the (WJBF Ch. 6) news tonight and they had it on their website. When I read it there was more than what they had on tv. Of course they only showed companies owned by Bettis (Rainsford) with (Edgefield Mayor) Ken (Durham) leading them around.

The Old Edgefield Grill has a quaintness and charm about it that attract people like Theresa Hair to make the near hour drive from New Ellenton. The sweet treats don't hurt either, but there is a three letter word that would have Theresa staying put in her own town, tax.

The Edgefield mayor has proposed a hospitality tax. Theresa Hair said it would deter her from driving to Edgefield. Even though her 25 dollar meal today would only cost her a quarter more, she says she's fed up with extra fees, "You pay for your meal, why should you pay extra?"she says.

What a great marketing strategy. Come visit podunk Edgefield and we'll charge you more so you can pay our taxes for us. What a joke!

Increasing taxes, or instituting a new tax, of any kind does not seem to be just, nor does it appear to be the answer to any single problem we have, most especially in tough economic times.  Man up. Show some guts and integrity. Stop playing peek a boo with your faith and the truth. You are fooling no one but the fool and are bordering on treason as far as I am concerned.

The people that pay taxes are losing their jobs, having their hours and pay cut and their wages have been stagnant while costs of living always increase. Yet you, Mr./ Ms. Elected Official, want us to believe that we all will benefit in some way if you take more money from us taxpayers. Hum. Let me see. We have less, you take more of our less and we somehow end up with more. Didn’t Dick, Jane and Spot solve this problem a long time ago? Maybe it’s magic or some kind of miracle.

The businesses that employ tax payers, and also pay many taxes themselves, are struggling to hang on to the employees they have and their business if it is not already lost. Example: Employment Insurance taxes that businesses must pay have doubled in some cases. States and businesses pay the majority of an unemployment check. While you, Mr./ Ms. E. O., proudly campaign, crow and take credit for extending unemployment benefits (to 99 weeks in some cases), citizens and businesses pay for it dearly. States must borrow money from the Federal government to continue to pay their share of extended unemployment benefits. The states must repay the Federal government with interest. And the states get this money from where..? Businesses who are doing their best to maintain payrolls and keep employees working must pay extra taxes to the state for an extended period of time to pay for extended benefits. At the same time states increase the percentage of the tax the business pays. That means less income for payroll and growth, which equals layoffs, reduced employment and reduced pay for a taxpayer. It could also mean an increase in the cost of goods or services that a taxpayer, with an already restricted budget, needs. So you, Mr./ Ms. E. O., also want us to believe that we will all somehow benefit if you increase taxes and fees on the businesses that employ us and provide income, goods and services to us. Hum. Businesses have losses and decreased profits, you further decrease it through additional taxes and fees, we get our pay cut or lose our jobs, the cost of goods/ services increase and yet we all will prosper.

Yes… it truly must be a miracle. Isn’t it?
Sincerely,
Nobody’s Fool

Mr. Mayor (Durham):

You can't tax your way out of a recession!

Your proposed accommodations and restaurant taxes will have to be passed on to consumers who will punish the businesses collecting the tax.  There are many businesses on the edge of collapse and a one to two percent loss of revenue will be the deciding factor leading to their closure.  The extra cost will drive consumers and tourists away.  Unemployed workers will no longer be able to support the local
economy and more businesses will collapse in a disfunctional spiral.

Did you not learn from the last national election? We are tired of  government excesses bleeding us dry!

Make do with the signs we have.  Dust off rakes and shovels and pick up leaves that way - do without the new truck till the economy improves.

Our mayor has spent too much time in the company of his infamous mentor,  who enriches himself off of the sweat and toil of his victims, leaving them to pick up the pieces on his way to the bank.

Let the mayor and town tighten their belts like the rest of us!

No new taxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You would think that Bettis would get the hint that the people at MV don't want him around. If he really wants what's best for them he should just walk away. I don't know Mr. Knight but from what I've read he's at least willing to put up the bucks to get things done. I also found his (Rainsford's) letter to be typical, you're mean and bad for the county because you report the news and the truth. That's bad for him. Maybe Bettis should realize HE'S the one making the county look bad not you.

I think it is irresponsible to splatter somebody's picture and label them as a child molester until it is proven (they) are guilty. I've know Ronnie Lamb my whole life and I don't believe anything said about him. Maybe you should wait until all the facts are in before putting somebody's picture out there like that.

Editor's note: The facts are; victims made claims, the Sheriff's Office investigated the claims, they collected evidence, statements, interviews and filed an affidavit for a warrant. A judge then reviewed the evidence and granted a warrant for the arrest based on the evidence.

The arrest is public information and is presented in that manner. We do not cast guilt or innocence, just that the arrest took place and the charges listed.

Why tax just restaurants and the lone hotel to finance the town's excesses?  Why do all the rest of the retail shops skate free?  Sounds like a very selective tax with the winners on the Mayors "friends" list and the rest picking up his tab.

Editor's note: The Edgefield Inn is not is in the town limits and will not be affected by the proposed tax.

to tax our small business owners instead of cutting spending to make up the shortfall? How typical when we depend on a handout from the state or federal government and craft our budget around it. When the handout goes away we start thinking of where to raise taxes. Lets do it on the backs of the people who keep this county and country going, the small business owners. What a great idea!  Just say no to the restaurant and lodging tax.

I understand the concern over the “glass in the hotdog” and sincerely hope that individual was not seriously injured.

When I see or hear of hot dogs I always think of a Dan Akroyd line in the movie The Great Outdoors. Big shot Akroyd and average guy John Candy are by the grill. Akroyd is grilling steak for his family and Candy is grilling good ole hot dogs. It is then that Akroyd reminds Candy what hot dogs are made of: lips and buttholes (of course the dialog was not quite as clean).

Thank goodness we do not always know what we are really eating, or have to watch it being prepared, we may starve to death.

The salesman (a black man wearing an Obama "change" lapel pin) sat in the passenger seat describing the truck and all its "wonderful" options.. The seats were of particular interest. He explained that the seats directed warm air to your butt in the winter and directed cool air to your butt in the

Looking a bit angry, he asked why I thought it was a Republican truck. I explained that if it were a Democrat truck, the seats would blow smoke up your (rear end) year-round.

Change from "Congressional Reform Act" to "Elected Official Reform Act".

People in northern states only have to serve in a public office for a portion of a term and receive a full blown retirement.  They also can serve in three different offices and get three different retirement checks.

Add - After completion of service/term they cannot work for any government entity for ten (10 years) and can not be employed as a lobbyist for ten (10) years.

Add - If they have a networth of $10 million or more, they can't run.

Editor's post: The January comments have been archived and linked above in order to make the page load faster for those with dial-up internet service.

On a current events note, I can't let this go without mention. On Sunday's "Meet the Press" former San Fransisco Mayor Willie Brown actually said Obama is Reagan all over again.

Willie Brown: "In reality, Barak Obama has always been, in his political life, an admirer of Ronald Reagan. Many of the qualities that he exhibits are reflective of what Ronald Reagan was really all about. He has not been able, frankly, to demonstrate those in the first 18 months or so of his administration simply because he had such an awesome majority in the Senate and an awesome majority in the House, and that majority was dominated by the more progressive wing of the Democratic Party, far beyond what Obama really is. Obama is more like Reagan than he is like anyone else, probably including Bill Clinton, believe it or not. And he is therefore a real admirer, and it's genuine."

Just how far will the liberal left go to lie to the people and think they can get away with it anymore? Obama is really a conservative and it was his liberal buddies in Congress that pushed his agenda through, even though Obama didn't really want his big government nanny state agenda to move forward like his unconstitutional Obamacare?

I guess Obama and the Democrats are hoping their "dumbing down" of the government schools has reached its pinnacle. Reagan said government was not the answer, it was the problem. Obama says government is the be all do all and has all the answers. Only a liberal could make such a bizarre leap with a straight face. Not to mention doing it on a day recognizing Reagan's 100th birthday.

You can't make this stuff up. NewsBusters has the video and transcript as well

Re:  Editor's Note to Rainsford Editorial

Sir:
Your characterization that not one person rose in support of either Mr. Rainsford or his proposal at the 1/31/11 MVPHOA meeting is somewhat inaccurate.  The vocal group of opponents to anything Rainsford made it a less than hospitable forum for discussion of Mr. Rainsford's proposal.  When vulgarity and interruption are the norm, objective rational consideration suffer.  While I am no fan of Mr. Rainsford's, I believe that only a fool or someone with an agenda would lay blame for the mess at Mt. Vintage on his shoulders alone.

Editor's note: You are entitled to your opinion. However, the story on the meeting was based on the facts and comments made at the meeting. Edgefield Daily did not lay the blame anywhere. The homeowners did. It is a fact no one stood to defend Mr. Rainsford or his proposal.

I do not see where reporting fact is "inaccurate" unless you have an agenda in saying so. Personally, I never heard anyone use "vulgar" language. The video of the meeting was included in the report for anyone and everyone to view in order to allow readers to get a full understanding of what took place.

Commissioner Scott Dean of Harlem, GA should have moved to Edgefield  If he lived here he would still be seated as a Commissioner, and would still be doing what he did.  The PC police would have accused people of bashing or defaming him if they would have surfaced his extra curricular activities, called for civility, and just don't be so negative.  And the result, he would get away with what he was doing.

You see, generally, when information starts to circulate, there is probably some modicum of truth to it and it should be looked into, to either dispel the info, or confirm it.  For the children's sake in this case, it appears that the circulating info was enough for an indictment.

There in lies the problem.  We have the PC police who are naive enough to believe that nothing at all should be said about public officials, that nothing they do should be questioned, that just because they are public officials they can do no wrong.  And if they are questioned, then the people asking legitimate questions are racists, bashers, uncivil, etc.  Worse yet, not only do we have naive people who ascribe to this way of thinking, we have public servants that also believe they are above the law by virtue of their position, and how dare one question them.  Thank God someone had the intestinal fortitude to stand up and question Dean's behavior.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified!  Why?  Simple!  The people demanded it.  That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message.  This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. Term Limits.

12 years only, one of the possible options below..

  A. Two Six-year Senate terms
  B. Six Two-year House terms
  C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2.  No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3.  Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately.  All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.  Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen.  Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.  The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

Editor's note: I would add one item. Members of Congress should be paid the median wage of the American worker, or $32708.10 per year for 2010. Otherwise - they seem to forget who they are "working" for as they become millionaires shortly after getting to Washington DC.

After reading Mr. Rainsford’s letter to the editor dated 2/4/11, I am beginning to wonder if we were at the same meeting this past Monday! Where was this “orchestrated pep rally”? Anyone who watches the webcast can clearly see that there was no “pep rally”, though there were moments of spontaneous applause in support of certain statements. I’d also like to see a copy of this e-mail suggesting that we be “boisterous and contentious… as possible”. I certainly never received anything like that.

It is true that the golf club has lost membership. But the financial viability of the golf club was damaged long before this, due to poor management on the part of the developers. What Mr. Rainsford refuses to acknowledge is that many, many more members support Mr. Hooker’s plan for the golf club than do not. The only reason our amenities are still open is because of Mike Hooker. Even Mr. Rainsford acknowledged that in his letter to the community dated 11/6/10, stating “For those who did pay the special assessment, I want to express to you my appreciation, for without your contributions, we would not have been able to continue operations during the last few months.” I also don’t think Mr. Rainsford realizes that most members who “left” the club have taken a leave of absence, waiting to see how things play out. And many have indicated a willingness to return, once Mr. Rainsford is out of the picture.

Mr. Rainsford blames the economy, Mr. Knight, Mr. Hooker and others for the problems at Mount Vintage. He continues to act like a dictator, especially in regard to the Homeowners’ Association, and refuses to take any responsibility. His solution is to sue (or threaten to sue) everyone in sight.

I heard that Mr. Rainsford thought the meeting on Monday went well and that there was great support for his ridiculous plan. Once again I have to wonder: were we at the same meeting?

Mr Rainsford's editorial citing numerous conspiracies afoot to derail his attempts to save Mt Vintage by placing it further in debt only goes to show how much he is out of touch with reality.  The petitions presented on behalf of over 75 percent of the property owners in Mt Vintage stated categorically that they had lost all confidence in the owners and wanted a duly elected board of directors consisting of at least five property owners.  At this juncture Mssrs Rainsford and Knight should voluntarily comply with the wishes of the property owners and begin drawing on the deep expertise resident in Mt Vintage to find a way forward.  More bad debt is not the answer.  Interestingly, if Mr Hooker can be criticized for anything, it is paying too much for the notes to the golf course and community center.  According to the tax assessor and the court case Mr Rainsford argued and won in 2006, the original golf course was appraised at only $3.1 M, not the $9 M plus originally assessed.  If Mr Hooker indeed is paying only 25 cents on the dollar for this asset, then he is a financial genius and should be applauded.  Mr Rainsford should immediately petition the county tax assessor to raise the value of the original golf course to at least $12 M to reflect what Mr Rainsford believes is its true value.  And then, of course, pay the taxes on it like every other law abiding citizen of Edgefield County.  How do you spell delusional deadbeat?  Rainsford.

George Bush has infuriated the Tea Party faction of the GOP when he spoke out January 24 at Southern Methodist University in Dallas against what he perceives is a historic shift back to the olden days of isolationism, protectionism and its demon-seed hellspawn, Nativism.

Laura Ingraham filled in for O'Reilly and was furious at the president she once held so dear to her heart.

Ingraham: Last November President Bush remarked that the Tea Party is good for the country. But why did he attack a key priority for many Tea Partiers, namely, getting our borders under control and preventing mass amnesty for illegal immigrants?

Bush: What's interesting about our country, if you study history, is that there are some 'isms' that occasionally pop up -- pop up. One is isolationism and its evil twin protectionism and its evil triplet nativism. So if you study the '20s, for example, there was -- there was an American first policy that said who cares what happens in Europe?...And there was an immigration policy that I think during this period argued we had too many Jews and too many Italians; therefore we should have no immigrants. And my point is that we've been through this kind of period of isolationism, protectionism and Nativism. I'm a little concerned that we may be going through the same period."

Ingraham: Now as someone who was at the forefront in opposing the 2006 Bush immigration reform effort, I was saddened, but not all that surprised by the President's insulting characterization.... To say that it's all about hostility to foreigners is ludicrous.

To back up her position she uses a Dallas Tea Party poll which showed over 95% in favor of Arizona's hateful SB1070 law. I guess that's irrefutable proof that Conservative opposition towards immigration reform is anything but Nativism, right? Ingraham uses the phony Conservative claim that this is all about "the rule of law" as a crutch to back up her Nativist position on immigration. Jeb Bush also got under her skin when he spoke out against Republicans and called their opposition "wrong and stupid." Laura wasn't happy being tag teamed by the Bush Brothers.

Ingraham: Now that's an interesting way to court future GOP voters given their overwhelming opposition to amnesty, Gov. Bush. maybe President Bush was right. We are suffering from an outbreak of ism's. Elitism comes to mind.

Calling George and Jeb Bush 'elitists' are fightin' words, young lady, since that's the exact opposite of how she viewed them when they were in office. Oh, how times have changed -- because here I am, writing about something that I agree with George Bush on, and here Laura Ingraham is, attacking the president she once defended to the hilt. That's how far right the GOP has moved.

Editor's note: Only a liberal could call enforcing a law "hateful". Why do I get the feeling that you voted for Nathaniel Jackson?

It is time the rest of the county gets to experience the autocracy we have to deal with on a continuing basis with Mr. Rainsford's failure to answer questions and blame everyone else for his bad business decisions that led our wonderful community into the downward spiral we are experiencing. I want those on the outside to know that the homeowners at Mount Vintage love this county and want our community and the county to flourish. It is my opinion that as long as Mr. Rainsford is involved with our community we will continue to see an uninterrupted decrease in property values and this will impede real estate companies from showing or encouraging the few homebuyers seeking relocation to consider Mount Vintage Plantation and have a negitive impact of tax revenues for the county. To Mr. Rainsford: bow out and let us move forward. It is too late to do so gracefully.

This will certainly drain the ECSD even more.

Editor's note: I have read an article in The State on this issue. I disagree with the plan as charter schools are 501(3)c private entities. They claimed they could run schools smarter and cheaper by being freed of a lot of requirements placed on regular public schools. If they fail in their mission, they fail. We already fund too many failing public schools to add charter schools to the list.

One day a fourth-grade teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living. All the typical
answers came up-fireman,mechanic,businessman,salesman...and so forth. However, little Justin was being uncharacteristically quiet,so when the teacher prodded him about his father, he replied,"My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his clothes to music in front of other men and they put money in his underwear. Sometimes,if the offer is really good,he will go home with some guy and stay with him all night for money." The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some exercises and took little Justin aside to ask him, "Is that really true about your father?" "No," the boy said, "He works for the Democratic National Committee and helped to get Obama elected, but it's too embarrassing to say that in front of the other kids."

Alabama Declares War on the USA .

President Barrack Obama was in the Oval Office when his telephone rang. "Hello, President Obama” a heavily accented southern voice said. "This is Archie, down here at Joe's Catfish shack down here in Montgomery, Alabama , and I am callin' to tell ya’ll that we are officially declaring war on ya!"

"Well Archie," Barrack replied, "This is indeed important news! How big is your army?"

"Right now," said Archie, after a moments calculation "there is myself, my cousin Harold, my next-door-neighbor Randy, and the whole dart team from Hooters. That makes eight!"

Barrack paused. "I must tell you Archie that I have one million men in my army waiting to move on my command.."

"Wow," said Archie. "I'll have to call ya back!"

Sure enough, the next day, Archie called again. “Mr. Obama, the war is still on! We have managed to acquire some infantry equipment!"

"And what equipment would that be Archie?" Barrack asked.

"Well sir, we have two combines, a bulldozer, and Harry’s farm tractor.."

President Obama sighed. "I must tell you Archie, that I have 16,000 tanks and 14,000 armored personnel carriers. Also I've increased my army to one and a half million since we last spoke."

"Lord above", said Archie, "I'll be getting back to ya."

Sure enough, Archie called again the next day. “President Obama! I am sorry to have to tell you that we have had to call off this here war."

"I'm sorry to hear that" said Barrack. "Why the sudden change of heart?"

Well, sir," said Archie, "we've all sat ourselves down and had a long chat over sweet tea, and come to realize that there's just no way we can feed two million prisoners."

Recently a friend of ours in a rural area of Tennessee lost his brother to an extended illness. The brother had been battling cancer for some time and late one evening in early January he began having difficulties breathing due to the retention of fluids. The family contacted emergency services personnel for assistance/ transport to a hospital. Unfortunately EMT’s could not reach the ailing brother because of road conditions (a combination of weather/ maintenance/ engineering). Another brother of our friend had to physically pick up his now dying brother, put him in his own vehicle and transport him down the hill to the awaiting EMT’s. He passed away before reaching the hospital. The fluid in his lungs had suffocated him. The ailing brother may have still passed even if he had gotten medical attention sooner and EMT’s may have gotten to the ailing brother in the absence of inclement weather. Both are true.

We cannot control the weather. However, we can ensure that our citizens have roads that can be safely traveled the majority of the time and in a variety of weather conditions. This also ensures that every citizen, as deserved, can get access to emergency services when needed.

I wonder if politicians in Tennessee would have ensured more tax dollars were spent on road engineering, maintenance and improvement if their ailing brother lived along similarly engineered and maintained road. I also wonder if our leaders here in Edgefield County and South Carolina are ensuring that they keep the horse before the cart. We still have citizens here in Edgefield County that may have limited access to assistance in the case of an emergency during anything but dry weather. I ask sincerely - are we sure funding for the new tower was really the highest priority? Radio communication seems to be of little practical use when a loved one is suffering at the end of a muddy impassible slop of a road. Just an example and a thought.

Editor's note: The replacement of the old north tower was years behind schedule as all needs are in the county. The former majority were more interesting in spending on wants that got them votes, not what was best for the entire county. Hopefully that has changed, but remains to be seen.

Money to pave roads have been diverted to pave the parking lots of the new county building when it should have been covered by insurance money, but the job has gone way over budget by estimations (no hard numbers have been provided.)

It's not our fault the county dropped the ball on taking in the other roads in Birch Point. Now they want to fuss because the roads they were supposed to be maintaining never got maintained as a reason to not take them in now? What a nice way to 'pass the buck'. Blame it on someone else. The county dropped the ball not us and now it's time to pay the piper to fix what they created by botching the whole thing. No records on the roads are available? I find that hard to believe. I hope Mrs. Blackwell can get to the bottom of this. She seems to be the only one that really cares about Merriwether. We got overlooked then and we're being overlooked now. I know the deed to give the roads to the county were filed. Why are we being ignored because things were done right and the goofballs in charge for the past 10 years couldn't scratch their (rears) without directions from someone else?

The webcast of the HOA meeting was made very available to residents and other property owners through various means. Anyone who did not get it is probably not a resident and frankly it none of their business. The only people affected by this issue are the ones who have an investment in Mount Vintage. If you notice the title of the meeting, it is the "Homeowner Association", not an Edgefield county meeting.  A lot of people have been and continue to be hurt through these two "developers". The only reason I can think that the webcast would be made available to readers of Edgefielddaily is for curiosity sake. It is certainly not news worthy and is personal business for those involved.  Neither side looks good at this point and it is very unprofessional for anyone who is not personally involved to be making statements about this situation. That is nothing more than gossip.

Editor's note: Since Mr. Rainsford has publicly stated that the development has such a huge impact on the county tax revenues it is of interest to all county residents and we have a report on the meeting available today. The problems have been presented and discussed by the Edgefield County Council making it even more of a news story for all residents.

Is it a matter most affected by those in Mt. Vintage? Yes. Does it impact the entire county? Yes. Has this been an issue of the county? Yes. Has many of the property sales been to those buying property at a tax sale in December for unpaid taxes? Yes.

Sounds like news the rest of the county needs to know.

RE: "If these bashers would get behind their school, support the teacher/staff, and assist their children more, I think we would all see a better school district."

You're exactly right.  We should support our schools, teachers, and staff, and board members, and stop the bashing.  We've got to get more people like those that support Nathaniel Jackson involved in our schools.  We've got to support the administrators like Schilit, and we all know what he's up to.  You're right.  Those involved parents that are involved in their own children's education should just sit down and shut the (remove) up.  I think by virtue of grades, achievement, and discipline, one can clearly see whose parents are involved in their child's education.  It's the ones raising (removed)!  Which is sad because we pay taxes to pay high and ridiculous salaries to those that just can't get results, but just muddle along, collecting their check whether they perform or not.

That is the travisty-WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN who don't have the luxury of having involved parents?!!!!!!!!  You say not to bash, but what about them?  Instead, you're too busy being PC and allowing this fasade to continue, robbing THOSE children of the education you claim they should be receiving.  By shutting up and allowing the perpetuity of a corrupt and failing system, you too share in the injustice done to our children.  Wake up!  And have you noticed one glaring point?  Those "bashers" aren't just raising (removed) for their children, they are raising (removed) for all the children!

This call for civility is nothing but a smoke screen.  Concerned people have caught on and are raising (removed).  Those that have been caught are now searching desparately for a line of defense.  Race Card.  Victim Card. PC Card. And now the Civility Card.

The originator of the post may not be a teacher or staff per say, but is obviously of the same Kumbya mentality.  First we were Republicans. Then we were gun toting, Bible thumping, pickup truck driving, right wingers.  Then we were racist tea baggers.  Now we're BASHERS?

Personally, I think we're just concerned AMERICANS who have finally awakened.

Hats off to the Schools across our state that believe in the "Alive at 25" program.  My daughter took the class as well as Drivers Ed.   She was so impressed with the class that she talked about it for several days.  $35 is a small price to pay if just 1 childs life is saved because of the information they received at the class.  I'm glad our school is participating in this program and a big thank you to the officer that conducts the classes.

Editor's note: Personally, I feel that young drivers should take a defensive driving class that includes real driving situations. Not a required course, but one that teaches our young, and older, drivers how to handle off the road recoveries. Most fatal crashes take place by the driver running off the road and over correcting.

As I have told my own children, if you run off the road - take your foot off the gas, do not hit the brakes, and allow the vehicle to slow and then slowly re-enter the roadway. When asked "what if there is a mailbox or sign" I state, hit it. It is cheaper to make the minor vehicle repairs than paying hospital bills or a possible funeral.

Perhaps all this should be rolled into the requirements to get a drivers license in the first place and there would be no need for classes at the schools.

So either he is dumber than a rock or he hates the constitution and wants to stack the deck with his appointees (to the Supreme Court) who will do whatever he wants. Kagan even argued for the law before she was appointed. Shouldn't she have to secue (sic) herself from the hearings?

How you  say? Simple... we were told that if the Chicago  Bears had  won that President  Obama (and probably his family) would be attending the Super  Bowl to  cheer on his hometown team. Since the  Bears  lost...the  President won't be attending. The money saved from not using Air Force  1, the limosines, all the additional security, and let's  not forget  Michelle  Obama's  entourage,  is literally several million dollars!  Therefore every  American  should  cheer on the Green  Bay Packers at  the Super  Bowl to  show them our gratitude. Oh...and let's not forget to thank  Chicago  Bear's Quarterback Jay Cutler for  his role in the Packer's success!  With that said...let's circulate this email to everyone we  know so they can understand why they should cheer for  America 's  team ...the  Green  Bay Packers!

So if the (Mount Vintage) HOA (Home Owners Association) paid for the video of the meeting the other night then that means that the residents should have access to the video right?  Wonder if Bettis will allow that to happen cause it sure didn't look good for him.....

Editor's note: According to emails of those attending or watching the webcast, Mr. Rainsford admitted he has no money and wants the Home Owners to take out a loan to supply him with cash to run the development though he is in debt for millions already. Seems like a good plan if you are him. Mr. Knight, co-owner, is willing to finish the infrastructure if he is sole owner, but not if Rainsford remains in control from statements made.

In my opinion, anything with his name attached to it is caustic. According to those present he even requested he be "respected" in spite of his failings.

He sounds more like Norman Dorn than a business leader. Thank God he resigned as a member of the county economic development committee. We don't need two idiots reprenting out county to outsiders.

A video of the meeting should be available in a few days that we will link to in order to allow all to hear his comments. Wait until then to draw your own conclusions.

RE: "I am so tired of "bash the school/teacher/administration" mentality."

Put down the Kool Aid.  If you are tired of the criticism, then get another job, or DO YOURS!  Over the last 40+ years we have constantly heard the mantra of "it's for the children" and 4 TRILLION dollars later, our school system is terribly broken, and has not increased any in standing in the world, but has fallen.  Year after year, dollar after dollar, and the schools are no better now than they were 40 years ago.  If the Department of Education was a legitimate business, the Share Holders would have fired the Board at all levels many times over, and they would not have waited for them to waste 4 Trillion dollars.

It's interesting.  I never hear one American whine about our military.  Why? Because they do what they are paid to do and get results.  Yes, there are and have been acceptable issues, but at least they correct them and move on.  And never, ever, have I ever heard a soldier, who like a school teacher/administrator, volunteered to do that particular job, ever complain and say, "Wah wah wah, you should take a walk in my shoes."  Even after they have sloshed through mud, swamps, blood and guts, lost their buddies-never have I heard them telling US AMERICANS, if we don't like it, then take a walk in their shoes.

If you don't like the criticism. if you don't like your job, if you don't like what's going on around you in the school system, IF YOU don't have the intestinal fortitude to stand up for yourself-FIND ANOTHER JOB!

Better yet, give the national average per student $10-12,000 per student, give that to the parents, and see what they do with it to get their children an education.  Bad thing is, and the liberals and teacher's union know it, there would be schools that house people like you that would dry up and blow away because smart people would make better choices on how their money is spent and what quality of education they want.  To put it in terms you'd understand, the store you sell your services or products at would end up much like the other businesses in Johnston.

Okay, I know a lot is going on in the world, here and abroad, but I just wanted to add this in for curiousity value, or at least to provide a break in the postings about the "Alive at 25" controversy!

I ship a lot of packages mostly via Fedex and some by UPS.  They have tracking numbers.  These numbers allow me to accurately and reliably check where my package is at any time during the shipment.  Their systems both work superbly.

Whenever I have a package SENT to me using the USPS Priority Mail service, it comes with a tracking number as well, but with completely different results.  When I use the USPS tracking utility, the only info I have EVER gotten was the following:

Label/Receipt Number: (deleted)
Class: Priority Mail®
Service(s): Delivery Confirmation™
Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on January 28, 2011 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.

The next thing I know is that....... eventually........ the package arrives, but this tracking message never changes throughout the process.

Why the heck do they even offer this?  Anyone know?

No wonder the liberal leftists in the Democrat Party got run out of office on a rail in 2010.

I can't wait for 2012.

Meanwhile, as Cairo, Egypt burns in revolt, Obama was attending a party with his fellow water carriers (media "elites"). I just wonder, Pres. Bush was, and still is, denigrated because he was reading to a elementary school class when 9-11 happened. But Obama gets a pass for an ongoing crisis?

I have a comment that I would like to offer on the county tax assessor. About 2 years ago I met with her in her office to have her explain how she came up with the value of our home and how it pertained to millage rates. Ms. Bryant explained that the value was based on the retail value of the home. I tried to explain that no one except a fool pays retail and that fell upon deaf ears.

The shock came when she told me how the millage rates were determined. She said the rate was a reflection of the cost of the materials to build the home.

I realized I was dealing with a person that had no clue about her job or what a millage rate was, much less able to determine the true value of a home in a declining market when values are falling faster than the rains.

I wrote letters to my county councilman that went unanswered. I appealed my assessment and was given a slight relief.

It was obvious that there is not a single sane mind in our county government and gave up. Our home has been on the market ever since at a price $50K below its true value, not the assessment, for the sole purpose of getting the (heck) out of Edgefield County.

RE: "I just can't let this go without comment.  I am seeing one person after another complain about Alive at 25.  I am absolutely dumb......"

I didn't see anyone complaining about having their child take the course.  What I did see is a lot of people complaining about the administration of the program, and the fact, the district cut the driver's ed program because of budget.  Of all courses to cut, they cut the one that would most benefit a new driver, namely teenagers.  Yet, they can remodel Schilit's office, pay for Courtney's private dump, continue to give Crenshaw a raise, and double a salary to pay Clinkscales, all of which have not one iota of concern about our children.  If they did, why would they cut one of the only classes that could result in better safety for our children?

RE: "Also, for the 10 years I was working at STHS, the Drivers Ed course was not free, there was a fee very similar to the current private drivers ed fees...."

That's funny.  My high schooler was one of the last to take the driver's ed course at STHS, and I don't recall writing a check for $250 for driver's ed.

RE: "Pleave out the arguement of whether or not you agree with alledged excess paid to board members, administrator etc in this argument because most school systems charge these fees."

Yeah, that's the problem.  They know they can get away with charging "these fees", nickle and diming parents to death because they can't manage their budgets.  When I grew up I didn't pay for driver's ed, it was a mandatory class in the school curriculum.  And I don't recall paying a parking fee at school and I would surely remember because if I wanted to drive I had to pay for my car, pay to get my license, pay for the inspection sticker, pay the insurance, and pay for my own gas.  I also remember only taking a jar of glue, two pencils, notebook paper, and crayons or colored pencils for myself in elementary. AND we had 35-40 students per class!  Now parents are given an entire laundry list to bring in.  Why?  Because most of the school budgets are going to pay teacher's, benefits, and a helluva a lot of waste.

STHS collects a parking fee for what.  Maintenance and repair?  When is the last time any maintenance or repair was done on the parking lot?  How much did it cost, and how often is the cost recurring?  Do you really think they keep the parking fee in a lock box and use it specifically for what it is alleged to be collected for?  Somewhat like Social Security huh.  They rob the lock box, and probably to pay for Courtney's private dump.  He should have payed for it-it was his decision.  You see, once again the taxpayer has to pay for idiot decisions, and the purveyors of those decisions are not held accountable.  The attitude is, ah, it's okay that I'm (one of the) dumb masses, the taxpayer will pick up the tab.  We AMERICANS are saying, ENOUGH!

I've really enjoyed reading the postings on this Driver’s Course,  “Arrive at 25.”  What is fascinating is how such a seemingly small, insignificant, local issue illustrates the larger issues of what is wrong with our public education system and country as a whole.

1.  Serious, tough questions have been raised,  yet one liberal has already chimed in about the “mudslinging”…funny when good issues get raised, the opposition starts characterizing the tone as “mudslinging” or “hate” speech, but they never answer the valid concerns being raised.

2.  One poster claimed, “but it’s good for the children…it’ll keep them alive.....how could anyone oppose that!?”  Tactic 2, invoke the “it’s for the children” mantra.  Sure, this course may be good for the kids, but so is bubble-wrapping your child, and keeping them locked away from the world…and lets no forget the guns, banning ALL firearms will keep the children safe too!. I say, think for yourself, take responsibility for you and your family, don't delegate your responsibility away to the public education system. I’m not opposed to the class itself, just the way it is being implemented.  If it was that good and worthwhile, it would sell itself.  I plan on sending my child to a similar course on my own volition, not because some short, Napoleonic, attention seeking principal requires it (because he's seeking another accomplishment item in his resume'), but because it's my responsibility as their parent.

3.  When parents and constituents raise issues of school encroachment (e.g. school lunches, breakfasts, fundraisers, and now mandated driving courses) they’re ostracized and condescendingly told to apply for a federal scholarship.  Yet schools continue to fail in the mandated requirements of education ("Gee...how's them language, math, and science scores...and the drop out rates coming along???hmmm??).  Notice that Deputy Reel and the other law enforcement instructors chiming in never address these legitimate questions…baaaa, move along citizen, just be compliant sheep.

4. Federal funding and "scholarships".  Think about it and ask, why are the Feds funding this at the schools????  Probably, because the states told them to get bent.  Driving requirements are the providence of the states (just like education is supposed to be!, [think No Child Left Behind])  So instead, the Feds apply and tie dollars to programs to make you more compliant.  Think about it, if this program was that good, then why isn’t it a requirement by DMV??? (Our schools are so well run, now they think they can run DMV).   Also, think about it, by our compliant, passive, inaction, we’re now making the STHS Principal the chief DMV officer for our students…you bet I bristle at that.  When my wife and I had a baby, I took responsibility for it, I didn’t pass that responsibility to our public schools.

5.  “But sir, not all parents take responsibility for their kids like you…we have to protect the children of the stupid people.”  True, there are some stupid parents out there, but this is still America.  Last time I checked, it still is not illegal to be stupid.  As a recommendation, perhaps if the school had treated the parents with the respect they demand from our children, we could’ve worked WITH THEM.  Notice, our public schools "first bite at the apple"...is never to work with parents, their institutional arrogance and short-sightedness only permits them to send decrees down to the parents, like they do with the students.  Perhaps if they had mailed a flyer to the home, with the details, and specifics of the course, and some statistical evidence on how this course had positively impacted the reduction of vehicular accident and explained how this is a good idea….then leave the decision to the parents….where it belongs, I would cheerfully support the school's endeavor.  However, the school needs to respect, this is MY decision, no theirs.

Much like what a German citizen said of Nazis in the 30’s can be applied to our country today…”First they came after the smokers….I said nothing,  then they came after the gun owners….I said nothing;  then they came after the  fat people eating McDonalds….I said nothing,  then they came for those who wouldn’t buy health insurance…..I still said nothing,  then they came for the stupid parents who wouldn’t send their kid to “Arrive at 25”….I still said nothing…then they came for me, or something near to my heart, ….and I wondered, how did it come to this???”  ....well, just remember, “it was for the children.”
