The human piece of garbage who shot his girl friend and the Aiken Public Safety Officer should not be
equated to a rabid dog, but that of which he is...a human piece of garbage. This scum and others like him
love the 'Thug' life...where they degrade women, beat them up, kill them and finally when caught, act like
the cowards they are and.... not do us a favor by dying. I congratulate law enforcement for catching this
garbage, and equally commend them for not killing him on sight. You have great restraint...something I will never have. And what was this human piece of garbage doing in Johnston? Johnston has a lot of 'thugs' who should be (dealt with) and equally a lot of sex offenders who live in the city limits where they enjoy the good life. Our Sheriff and police need to put these human scum balls on 'notice' and treat them like we used to in the good ole days. (removed) Of course this extreme force of action will never happen in our civilized society. Get these thugs and their sex offender friends out of our county Sheriff. We don't care about their civil rights. They don't have any. Pray for me sisters.

I work in a grocery store and my whole idea of this getting molded cheese is if you didn't see that the cheese was molded until you opened it, what makes you think the stocker saw it was molded when he put it on the shelf. So don't blame the store for something that isn't their fault. And if you have a problem with the store go somewhere else.

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little..
The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F. As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. To their great surprise,

ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. It could not be any simpler than that.
Remember, there IS a test coming up. The 2012 elections.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Mr. Einstein with the microorganism/ fungi response – check your spelling. Last I checked it’s spelled phobia not fobia. Inferior complex? Did you mean inferiority? And if you did mean that why would you? From your spelling and rationale I would say you may have completed third grade at best.

I have gotten sick from food that should have been removed from the shelves of the local chain grocery store. On many occasions since have found out of date items being sold. I have shopped many grocery stores over the years and this store is the only one that I have ever had no confidence in the stock on their shelves and must check every single item when I am forced to buy there. In addition there is a much too casual attitude with most of the workers there. Regardless the manager can do something about all of it and suggest he do so or Edgefield will lose what could be a valuable service and the manager and his employees will lose their jobs.

Additionally for you Editor and other Newt supporters, I respect your right to endorse Newt. In a perfect world the best candidate would win. However, it is no longer like that and the Republican party has been slow to learn their lesson. The days of Dole, McCain, Newt, Paul, etc… fitting the profile that most want leading the nation is gone - over. Even those in their own party desert them in a national election, especially younger people and females. Not saying it’s right just telling it like it is. Celebrate Newt’s win now – but it is just a battle. Newt has no chance against Obama in the war. Newt’s supporters that are busy patting themselves on the back now better save some strength in their hands to keep their jaws from dropping to the floor later when Obama wins by one of the largest margins in history. In our superficial world Romney or Santorum would have a better chance.

Editor's note: On Newt Gingrich, we will agree to disagree. Dole (moderate - lost) McCain (liberal to moderate - lost) Romney (liberal - will lose). I can see Obama in every debate thanking Romney for RomneyCare, the blueprint for ObamaCare. Talk about handing Obama the election on a platter, if Romney gets the nod many Republicans will stay home because they've seen this movie too many times.

With the return of troops from Iraq, there must be a surplus of Predator aircraft.  A beneficial use of these resources would be to monitor known members of gangs implicated in murder - especially that of peace officers.  This is necessary due to the fact that the friends, neighbors and acquaintances of gang members protect them. Nobody will be safe till these gangs are destroyed.

Palin: Cannibals in GOP Establishment Employ Tactics of the Left

We have witnessed something very disturbing this week. The Republican establishment which fought Ronald Reagan in the 1970s and which continues to fight the grassroots Tea Party movement today has adopted the tactics of the left in using the media and the politics of personal destruction to attack an opponent.

Editor's post: The murder of a young woman in Augusta and that of an Aiken City Police Officer (the second in a month) by Joshua Jones was senseless. And no, I did not say "alleged". In my opinion he did it and is guilty and should be put down like the rabid dog he is. That is my opinion and I am sticking to it. I agree that the Storm Thurmond Football Stadium needs to upgraded, and I admit  I haven't had time to study the proposal, I still trying to figure out Obamacare.  I have been to a few track meets outside of our district and have always been impressed with the high number of fine young people we have representing Edgefield County.  In fact I think outside of football is probably the most popular sport in our county.  Our county needs a track and field facility, not a glorified dove field.   If your going to invest in and improve the football stadium make it a true stadium add the track to it.  Plan for the Future not Just Today.

A law is needed to the effect that:
All police officers should wear mini-cameras.  Anyone who shoots at an officer and who is caught on film in the act should immediately lose the right to presumption of innocence and right to trial.  They
are no longer suspects and law enforcement officers have the right and duty to kill the shooter on sight.  No surrender allowed. While my heart grieves for the families of the officers recently murdered in the line of duty, I am sickened that tax money will be spent defending, feeding, educating, medicating and recreating the (expletives deleted) until society finally sends them to hell 20 or so years from now!!

First lets set the record straight! I have nothing to do with FOX CREEK or STROM THURMOND high schools. Second I heard Chris Hoffmann and FOUR Strom Thurmond Booster club members say the money they want to spend IS from the bond referendum money. So if I heard it come from the mouth of a school board member and booster club members I guess I'm ignorant about money and stuff? Get your facts straight before you assume you know what your talking about.

This has nothing to do with FOX CREEK or even STROM THURMOND schools. It's about TAX PAYERS MONEY and the right to know who, what and when it's spent. It's about HOW IT"S SPENT. Everybody is so quick to blame FOX CREEK THIS, STROM THURMOND THAT.

I never said anything bad about Strom Thurmond High School, thank you!

I agree with the comments about the chain grocery store in Edgefield.  I know they have a captive audience but there are other choices out there and they are not that far away. I don't ever do a big shopping in Edgefield because of the out dated items or lack of items. I think their dairy case is poorly refrigerated as I, too, have gotten current dated cheese that is moldy (more than once). If I need more than just a few basics, I go to North Augusta. I would rather shop locally. I have really tried to shop locally. It just isn't a good option for me to shop locally.

I love how when "other schools" are getting their way in our county, they shut up.  But when STHS get one little thing they blame it on respectable people like Chris Hoffman for the good that he does.  Then others try to say we are wasting our money, which I do agree upon because aprox 6-8 years ago we all had the opportunity to fix all these problems and make a new high school in the middle of the county, but people whined and complained that they wanted their own, so we gave them what they wanted, but it wasn't good enough, so we gave them a new building, wasn't good enough...now we give STHS a little something and all the sudden its like we just lit a match and set people on fire.  But you know what, they are not gonna stop anything... all they are gonna do is get on here and run their mouth about how bad STHS is and yet they will get nothing accomplished but make themselves fill better.  BIG WHOOP YOU WROTE ON A WEBSITE, anyone can do that.  But what really funny is the things they say that are so ignorant about money and stuff.  WELL YOU KNOW WHAT FOX CREEK, IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE BOE AND STHS, WHY DONT YOU BECOME A PRIVATE SCHOOL AND DO US ALL A FAVOR!!

I think a county fire marshal is a great idea.  I used to be on (replaced - my local fire department) and there was always conflict with the other departments.  I quit several years back because of that.  Maybe this will bring everybody together  and make things more even about how the money is spent.  There are 1 or 2 departments that have no leadership what so ever!  Somebody needs to do something and I'm glad it's getting done!

Editor's note: The matter is going to be up for discussion at the February County Council meeting, as I understand. I am sure it will be a slow deliberative process whether it is done or not, only time will tell.
web posted January 28, 2012

I read the stories about the meeting on looking to the future needs of the county. I have to say it was refreshing to see that the county council is taking an interest in actually growing Edgefield County. I agree that we need more deputies and another ambulance crew on duty. I agree on the Fire Marshall and building additional fire stations. My question is where is the money going to come from? Taxes will have to be raised and I don't support higher taxes, we pay more than enough already! I get the feeling this is just election year and it is just promises being made to get reelected. I have read nothing that makes me believe any of this is ever going to be done.

Editor's note: There is a lot more going on that cannot be released at this time from meetings with the County Admiistration. County Council Dean Campbell recently gave a "state of the County" report of the things that have already been accomplished without tax increases. As Vice-chairwoman Genia Blackwell says, "if there is a will there is a way," and she was the architect of finding a way to provide Sheriff Adell Dobey the means to purchase long overdue replacement of patrol vehicles without a tax increase or taking money from the general fund.

Much bigger news will be breaking next week on a project that has been in the works for nearly a year. County Administrator Roger LeDuc stated he could not elaborate on the project until Wednesday during a meeting on Friday.

Councilwoman Blackwell has said it is all about working "smarter, not harder" and that "taking ownership" of the needs of the county is a high priority. Chairman Campbell and Councilman Rodney Ashcraft agree and that is the reason the county is being viewed in a far more positive light by prospective industries considering Edgefield County for re-location.

As I stated earlier this year, if you think last year saw great strides, you "ain't seen nothing yet".

I, too, had problems with spoiled food from the big chain store in Edgefield and stopped buying anything perishable.  Don't go in there much anymore, but when I do I see pallets of frozen food and perishable items sitting in the isles with no one putting them away. It's not surprising as the employees are too busy visiting to do their jobs.  I'd like to spend my money in Edgefield, but until things change I'll keep going elsewhere.
web posted January 28, 2012

I too agree with the writer about the chain grocery store. I have been complaining for years about out dated food, rude employees, items in the fliers that the store is always out of, even on the first day the flyer came out! The store manager’s favorite saying when this happens, “It’s on the truck”, only that truck never comes. My wife and I now shop in N. Augusta, because of the variety of stores and lower pricing. This county is pathetic in only having one large supermarket. Come back a hundred years from now, and it will still only have a supermarket. Don’t tell me to shop local. Why pay almost $ 4 for a gallon of milk, when in N.Augusta I can get it for $ 3 or less. And people wonder why no new industry comes here. What is the incentive?

I do realize how cheese is made.  Maybe you enjoy eating green molded sliced provolone cheese on your sandwich, as I do not.  I would not have written this post if this was the first time I had a problem.  My husband and I have talked to the manager several times regarding our issues with out of date items and spoiled food.  Each time I have given the store another chance, but nothing has changed.  Apparently due to another post, I am not the only person in Edgefield that has had the same issues.  The store needs to address these problems, either with change of management, vendors or employees.  No phobias or complexes here.

Why is (County Councilman) Norman Dorn driving around in a car registered in GEORGIA? I've seen it at county council meetings and around town. He likes to show off that he has a Mercedes-Benz with a personalized tag, but why isn't he paying his "fair share" of taxes in Edgefield County? Hypocrite! just like the rest of the DEMONcrats. Do as I say, not as I do. Geez! Run his (rearend) out of office once and for all!!! He shouldn't even be given a driver's license because he's so (removed) old. The idiot is senile.  PLEASE!!!!!! Someone from the north side run against this bigot!

Editor's note: After speaking with a potential candidate in the District 1 race, he is going to run. At this time I do not know if he will run as a Democrat or a Republican. Dorn, when challenged in the old district lines, wins by a margin of 10 to 15 votes. This could be interesting with the new lines he objected to because it included minorities in the town of Edgefield, where he is not so popular among Democrats.

The photo of the tag you sent will be investigated as to ownership. It will not be listged with your post as requested.

RE: "Before you go mud-slinging and critizing re-vamping the stadium, you might consider that those bleachers are a law-suit just waiting to happen."

You mean there's not a lawsuit from the parent's of the 2 year old that fell through?  If you were at the last board meeting, Jan 10, 2012, Covar admitted that this has been known for at least the last twenty years, or at least as long as he has been a board member, that the bleachers were a danger, but have always decided to take the chance. And, and, was willing to continue rolling the dice instead of voting to spend the money to upgrade it as Hoffman was asking for.  Boy, what a bunch of dumb masses!  Willing to continue taking the chance on another possible lawsuit instead of voting to approve funds to fix it?  DAMN!  I wish I was a lawyer for the 2 year old!  And what about the conscientious?  Willing to take the chance on another child getting hurt, instead of fixing the problem?  Where in the hell is this train of thought?  Politicos-what a bunch of ...........  Guaranteed, if it was their child, or grandchild, it would have been fixed ASAP!  (Heck), look what Sallie did to get a non-performing basketball player back on the team!

RE:  Gingrich challenged Nancy Pelosi to "bring it out" if she's got any damaging information about his past, after the House Democratic leader for the second time suggested she was sitting on information that could imperil his presidential candidacy.

Maybe it's this:
I voted for Newt and THEN was told about this.  Yes, I still believe he is the only one that can beat Obama but this pisses me off.  I do believe in the death penalty for cold blooded murder.  Below was "cut and copied" from motherjones.com

1981 calling for marijuana to be legalized for medical purposes. "[L]icensed physicians are competent to employ marijuana," he wrote at the time. Pragmatic!
Flash-forward to 1996, and Gingrich's views had shifted to the right, and then kept going for a little while past that. Gingrich was the lead sponsor of the "Drug Importer Death Penalty Act," which, as its name suggests, would have made importation of even a small amount of marijuana punishable by life imprisonment (first offense) and death (second offense):

How much is "100 usual dosage amounts" of pot? About two ounces—more than the usual Friday afternoon with Snoop Dogg, but well beneath the load carried by the serious drug traffickers Gingrich's law was purportedly targeting. Our friends at Weedguru inform us that an ounce "can last a month for some smokers, but if you smoke multiple times a day it will vary from 1 week to 4 weeks." The law would be just as likely to target college kids coming back from a long night in Tijuana as it would members of an international drug cartel.http://motherjones.com/mojo/2012/01/your-daily-newt-death-penalty-drug-dealers

RE: re-doing the football stadium.
Mud-slinging? NO! Shining the light on the truth, YES! If the stadium is that bad close it down! What is more important, text books in the class rooms or a new stadium? What are more important, furloughing
teachers or a new stadium? Making sure that every school in the county has everything they need so the KIDS get a GREAT education is way more important than any stadium! Again and again when someone brings out the truth people jump straight to “mud-slinging” or “criticizing”? If this is all you have, then again you are more worried about athletics than education! The SCHOOL BOARD needs to start with education, not ATHLETICS! If the school board is planning on using, extending the bond referendum, then it should be left up to the tax payers not the school board. GET IT STRAIGHT!

Editor's note: The money being used is called "8% money" and can only be used for capital expenditures, not for books, teachers, or any other purpose. It is also a part of a five year plan to upgrade and expand county school facilities. I am still gathering information.

The State of the Union Address given by President Obama on Tuesday night was great. It good to have someone in office that cares about the future of our youth. I agree with him 100%, until our youth become 18 they need to be in school. You can't depend on the parents to make their kids go to school anymore because some just don't care. By doing that maybe there will be less of our young men in jail or prison and less young women have to depend on the government to provide for them. I just can't believe that Republicans are trying to go against it. That just to show you that they don't care about anything but one thing, trying to get Obama out of the office. Open your eyes people and look at everything that he has done since he has been in office. Lets remember that when he became President the United States of America was already in a bad shape. Thanks to him, everything is turning around. Now that we are not fighting two wars at the same time we really can start to recover from the mess Bush but us in.

Editor's note: So the government should be bigger and in charge of our children because "we" are too stupid to do it ourselves. Well, maybe that is true in the general Obama voters, but not the rest of America. Even the left wing Politico rated the same lame repeated speech (2010, 2011, 2012 talking points) saying the "State of the Union registers at 8th grade reading level". But, "It good to have someone..." and "That just to show you that they (Republicans) don't care about anything.." There really should be an IQ test given in order to register to vote.

"Democrat Woman's group pays money to destroy sand sculpture of Republican primary candidates"

A story covered by national news that also made the front page of the Aiken Standard.

There was a massive sand sculpture of the Republican primary field in Myrtle Beach SC.  "Sort of" looked like a mini-Mt. Rushmore. Quite well done I might add, although somewhat caricatured.  I guess the local democratic woman were allowed to initiate the destruction of the sculpture by making donations.  Given pink shovels to do the job,  The women were shown gleefully poking out the eyes and other facial features of the candidates before the bulldozer came to finish leveling the 700 tons of sand.

Now, while I could say this process was a little on the "Bush League" side, or maybe a little draconian if you make the mental leap to what surely had to be running through the minds of these women as they poked and stabbed with their shovels, (democrat readers.. you will just have to look up the meaning of "draconian") it was in fact a fund raiser, so I guess there was some benefit to the whole event.

But......... can you just imagine what the mainstream press would have done with this if that had been a sculpture of a democratic (or worse if that is possible) candidate field...........

I'd like to see contest on what the headlines would have read!

Mr. Editor, why don't you start us off!

I don't know if I should be happy or sad that I am not the only one having a problem with our local chain grocery store. Several days ago I went in and the produce department looked at if a strom had come thru.  The meat dept was closed.   Shelves empty.  Came home and emailed the company.   A lot of good that did.  They were sorry for my "bad" experience and referred me back to the local manager.  My husband went out this past weekend and as he walked in the front, two boys were on the motorized carts playing bumper cars.  Help standing around laughing and it is anyones guess where the manager was.

A carload of bearded, young, loud Muslims, shouting anti-American slogans, with a half- burned American Flag duct taped on the trunk of their car and a "Remember 9-11" slogan spray painted on the side, stopped next to me.
The light changed, the Muslims praised Allah, shook their fists, hit the gas & darted off ahead of me.

Suddenly an 18-wheeler came speeding thru the intersection& ran directly over their car, crushing it completely, killing everyone in the car.
For several minutes I sat in my car thinking to myself, "Man... that could have been me!" So today; bright and early, I went out and got a job as a truck driver.

THE FENCE
You can't get any more accurate than this!
Which side of the fence?
If you ever wondered which side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!
If a Republican doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a Democrat doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a Republican is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a Democrat is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a Republican is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a Republican is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A Democrat wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a Republican doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Democrat's demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a Republican is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A Democrat non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.

If a Republican decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A Democrat demands that the rest of us pay for his.

She is trying to be coy about it and make people think there really is something she know. What an idiot she is.

Gingrich challenged Nancy Pelosi to "bring it out" if she's got any damaging information about his past, after the House Democratic leader for the second time suggested she was sitting on information that could imperil his presidential candidacy.

"I think if she knows something, she ought to say it, and if she doesn't know something, she ought to quit saying it," Gingrich told Fox News on Wednesday. "But this is baloney."

RE: re-doing the football stadium.

Before you go mud-slinging and critizing re-vamping the stadium, you might consider that those bleachers are a law-suit just waiting to happen.

That stadium is open to the general public, including older people--some of whom are not too stable on their feet; the obese--some of whom have trouble climbing stairs; and youngsters--some of whom are quite wiggley.  There are no handrails on the stairs, and and there are big spaces between rows.

A warning has already been given in the form of last year's incident involving a young child falling in the spaces.  All you need now is for an someone to trip and fall going down the stairs and get seriously injured.  The resulting medical bills, lawsuit and jacked-up stadium insurance premiums would be exorbitant to the county.

This area is a little behind other areas of the country where law suits are a way of life.  But considering that lawsuits are looked on as "hitting the lottery", and considering all the lawyers ads on billboards, TV, and newsprint, this area will soon catch up.  One lawsuit will pay for a lot of very nice stadiums.

What is with the 2 grocery stores in Edgefield?  I went into the smaller store and the shelves were almost empty.  Are they closing or did I pick a stocking day?  I have had so many problems with the larger chain store with so many items out of date.  Every time I have to go into this store I have to always check the dates on the products.  Last week I bought cheese that was in date, yet opened the package to find it molded around the edges.  There is never anyone around to help bag the groceries either or either they are chatting it up with other teenagers working.  It’s a shame that I am going to have to start going to North Augusta to shop.  I try to buy local when possible, but I’m tired of wasting my money on spoiled food.

Oh my! What an ingenious fix to a real problem ---

Recently, the City of Dallas, Texas, passed an ordinance stating that if a driver is pulled over by law enforcement and is not able to provide proof of insurance, the car is towed.

To retrieve the car after being impounded, they must show proof of insurance to have the car released.  This has made it easy for the City of Dallas to remove uninsured cars.

Shortly after the "No Insurance" ordinance was passed, the Dallas impound lots began to fill up and were full after only nine days. 80 + % of the impounded cars were driven by illegals.

Not only must they provide proof of insurance to have their car released, they have to pay for the cost of the tow, a $350 fine, and $20 for every day their car is kept in the lot.

Accident rates have gone down 47%, and...  Dallas' solution gets uninsured drivers off the road WITHOUT making them show proof of nationality. Wonder how the ACLU or the Justice Department will get around this one. Just brings tears to my eyes.

RE: Appears to be the beginning of the end, again, for ole Mitt.

This appeared in Red State on Monday. I think it spells out rather clearly why Mitt Romney will lose -- he's running for the wrong party's nomination! This is a recipe for disaster
Peter Hamby from CNN notes what is going to be a recipe for disaster for Mitt Romney as he tries to relate to the Republican base.

In South Carolina exit polls, Romney wins only the “moderate or liberal”, those with incomes in excess of $200,000.00, those with postgraduate education, those who oppose the tea party movement, and those who think religion does not matter at all.

A number of those have been consistent through Iowa and New Hampshire too.

Mitt Romney’s exit polling reflects he can get the votes of Washington, D.C. Republicans and those who think we should leave the fate of the country in their hands. But he cannot get the votes of those who think we need to reform and reduce the power of Washington, which I venture to say is a sizable portion of the base.

You got to be kidding me you don't feel that was news worthy! So you feel we as parents  don't need to know what is going on in our school  and probably don't feel these kids need to be punished either. That is what wrong with out society today, sweep it under the rug. We as parents need to be more aware of what is going on at our schools and about the kids our kids hang out with.  If we want to stand a chance in trying to lead our children in the right direction we need stay informed and try to eliminate as many bad influences as possible. If your child is hanging out with kids that do drugs wouldn't you want to know?  So thank you editor for informing parents that care about what is going on in our school!   If more parents banned together and shared their knowledge of the bad influences around our children maybe we could eliminate the problems before it is too late.
The one question I have is why was the driver of the vehicle that the drugs were found in and the aroma of drugs present was not arrested also? Well I guess his story is he just provided a ride. Really?

Editor's note: The driver was a minor and was issued a ticket, which is a form of arrest. If he had been taken into custody he would have to be driven to Columbia and then picked up and driven back to be released to his parents the next day. It's much easier to issue the ticket and send him home.

He says pay the minimum and let our kids worry about the rest, but already we can hardly keep up with the interest.

Also he has been so arrogant and abusive toward our neighbors that most of them no longer speak to us. The few that do are an odd bunch, to whom he has been giving a lot of expensive gifts, running up our bills even more.

Also, he has gotten religious. One week he hangs out with catholics and the next with people who say the Pope is the Anti-Christ, and the next he’s with Muslims. Finally, the last straw. He’s demanding that before anyone can be in the same room with him, they must sign a loyalty oath. It’s just so horribly creepy! Can you help?

This is the problem I'm having. You can't say Obama said something, then give me a link to someone else saying it. There is plenty to attack Obama on without ascribing other people's words to him. Interesting.  You're willing to switch your vote back to Obama, even after now knowing his record, just because you want someone to show YOU the substantiating facts about information they read, saw, or heard.  If you are so bent on having background information to substantiate what someone says in a post, so you won't go back to Obama, why did you go to him in the first place?  Why were you not so bent on learning about his background while he was running?  You know why?  Because there were a lot of idiots who got caught up in voting for the "first black President".  There were a lot of idiots caught up in the fad of sending him there because of the color of his skin and not is record.  That's surely a brilliant way to make decisions.  And guess what, those that made such "brilliant" decisions are having to live with it aren't they-especially those in the black community.  Guess he didn't come through with paying off your mortgage, your car loan, and ebbyting else, did he?  And unemployment amongst the black population is staggering.  Yet, you sit there and buy into his tripe.  You all should be raising hell!  If it were a white President you sure would be raising hell.  But no, you sit there and find ways to blame it on the whites instead of living in reality-this man, black white or green is a cultivated, well taught socialist, and this has been the biggest infiltration into our government at the highest level since Kim Philby.  This is surely one of the most successful operations of all time.

Nice selection.  Of all the qualified and experienced black persons, you all had to pick and support a devout socialist.  Herman Cain is black-what's wrong with him?  Bet you'll have some stupid answer.  And I don't see the black community calling racism in his defense when they went after him.  And you notice, now that the damage has been done, ya haven't heard another word from these alleged bimbo's, have ya?  Oh, but I forgot, the REAL first black President, Clinton, his affairs were a personal matter and shouldn't be made public.  Talk about hypocrites.  As much as I hate to state this, Al Sharpton was right-Obama didn't deserve the nomination to represent the black population cause he was never down for the struggle.  And you will find, history will show Obama as having done the most damage to the black community then anyone.

The deputies are always respectful and very professional(esp if u happen to own a scanner and hear them on the radio). And Sheriff Dobey is so helpful and always easy to talk to and handles things very efficiently, couldn't ask for a BETTER Sheriff!! I am a resident of Edgefield County who has to go through Johnston a lot and if you ever have to get gas at (two stores) it's so hard to do because of all the drunks stumbling in the parking lots or people bumming money, but there always seems to be a JPD car sitting right in the (removed) parking lot?!?! And there is NO danger in (other locations - names removed) having any problems because the cars STAY there or the Chief is at the (removed) most of his "busy" day ha ha. I do have a scanner as do MOST people in our small community and JPD can't hold a candle to the professionalism of the Sheriffs office!!! Too bad there isn't more of THEM to go around to clean up Johnston :(  Keep up the great job Sheriff Dobey!!!!!

The problem I see with Ron Paul is his foreign policy or lack there of.   I too would like to keep EVERYTHING inside our borders, take care of our own, not everybody else.  I like the golden rule and live by it.  BUT, we cannot turn out back on Israel.  If we do we are done/cooked/stick a fork in it.  You think Obama is bad for our country, turn on Israel and see how bad it gets.

Editor's note: Whoever gets the nomination, they should put Ron Paul in charge of the Fed. Watch that secret group get a well over-due audit toot-sweet.

Sheriff Dobey is doing a good job. With the (County Council) working together with him I see good things coming. Im glad (Genia Blackwell R-Merriwether) is my rep. In the county. We need more like her. The sheriffs race should be non partisan anyway. Local elections are just as important as national elections in my opinion. Keep up the good work Mr. Editor.

Ron Paul showed a lot about his beliefs in the last debate. If one wants to see the U.S.A. become like a turtle with its head in a shell,  then vote for Paul. He has some pretty scary, not just crazy, foreign policy ideas.  The Republicans need to embrace his supporters because the goal of this election is to get Obama out of office. Ron Paul does not have the support or the where with all to be President of this country. His supporters should get behind the Republican nominee and hope that some of Paul's fiscal ideas will have an impact. He has some good ideas-I think all the candidates have good ideas-and hopefully we can all work together and make a lot of these good ideas a reality in our country. We are on a brink that we may not be able to recover from if the Republicans lose in November.

Re: Gas prices have doubled since Obama took office and from the story FOX News reported he wants to raise prices another .25 a gallon! Didn't he say he wanted prices around 7 bucks to force people to electric cars they recalled because they were a fire hazard?

Okay, when did he say that? In what forum, and where so I can find it. I'm a black female who is considering voting for someone other than Obama this year. I've got to admit that the sheer stupidity and lack of truth found in some of the anti-Obama arguments makes me reconsider that switch. The man has enough of a negative track record without you having to make up asinine falsehoods to try to make your points. Let his less than stellar record speak for itself. Stick to the facts. Again, where did you hear Obama say he wanted gas to be seven dollars a gallon so he could force people to buy exploding cars? I'm going to go check it out as soon as you tell me. THAT footage will definitely inspire a change in political affiliation on my end!

I heard that (removed) is going to run for sheriff. Really? Do you know if that's true? When I talked to friends of mine they told me they already knew. If everybody knows why haven't you told us about it?

Editor's note: I have spoken with one candidate that has privately stated he is going to run for Sheriff. The second has made statements to sources that he intends to run. Neither has made an official announcement and is not required to do so before mid March.

As to what I know personally, I do not reveal information given "off the record".

If the candidates are serious they will make their names known. We are ten months away from the general election, and in my opinion, waiting just gives anyone wanting to run less exposure to the general public - especially if they intend to run as a Democrat against Sheriff Adell Dobey in the primary in June.

In reality, announcing in March gives any candidate only nine months to mount a campaign no mater how well organized, regardless of the elected office sought.

Fox Creek has never had a library.  Yes that is true if you go to that school not just as a student but maybe for a visit, you will be excorted to a room they call the library. When the door is opened you will see weight equipment stuck in the middle of what could be a nice library. ( i.e.librarian desks and shelves, very, very few books hidden by the weight equipment). There is no library, that is a fact. If your child goes to school there that is something you will have to accept.  This also will affect their ability for SACS acreditation. http://www.sacscoc.org/pdf/PrinciplesOfAccreditation.PDF  which states the following:

3.8 Library and Other Learning Resources

3.8.1 The institution provides facilities, services, and learning/information resources that are appropriate to support its teaching, research, and service mission.

3.8.2 The institution ensures that users have access to regular and timely instruction in the use of the library and other learning/information resources.

re:  removing hyperlinks from my post supporting Ron Paul
Mr. Editor,
My post was sent in IDENTICAL to other posts that may be found on this page, and you stripped the supporting hyperlinks out. Edgefield County, I beg of you:  Wake up. A vote for Newt Gingrich or Mitt Romney is a vote for Obama, which was a vote for George W. Bush's failed economic and foreign policy.

Mitt Romney says "Corporations are people."  Let me ask you all, do you consider yourself a corporation?  My Granny is definitely not a corporation.

Oh yeah, do a Google for "Newt Gingrich censure" or "Newt Gingrich ethics" or "Newt Gingrich Freddie Mac" -- you will find some interesting tidbits.  Not to mention he's on his third wife-  That's what I look for in a leader!

Oh yeah, and as I mentioned, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney are the only two candidates that will be on the Virginia primary ballot. The writing is on the wall.

It's Ron Paul or bust.  Bet your bottom dollar on that.

This will be the last time that I ever post anything (or send any traffic towards this website.)  The Editor is obviously biased, and wants the Sheeple to follow what he is saying. Here's what you stand to lose by not voting for Ron Paul on January 21st:

Independent, Libertarian, Moderates and Middle Class voters, people who supported Obama but are unhappy
Young voters, many of who will be voting for the first time (hint, you have the chance to make an impression on them just like Obama did in 2008) And most importantly:  You stand to lose the election.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/01/16/cnn-poll-obama-tied-with-romney-paul-in-november-showdowns/

If you want to "donate" young voters to the Democratic Party by all means!  But don't say you were warned. ps.  I mentioned my family ties to you in an email, because I wanted you to know that I was legitimately from Edgefield County, not some DC consultant posting to your website.

Keep boxing yourself in.  You are turning off not just single cycles of voters, but generations of them.
Here's to four more years!

Editor's note: Your post was not "identical" to other posts. It had embedded links not active links - which I will place as such, or sometimes copy and then link without having to dissect the email. This post provided a proper link and it was posted. Ron Paul has as much a chance of getting elected President as I do. Why not just vote for me? At least I have a foreign policy plan.

At present...I have no idea who will run against Sheriff Doeby, but whoever runs better let us know they support the Constitution and are an Oath Keeper. As this fake president continues to urinate on the Constitution as allowed by a cowardly GOP congress, our freedom and liberities are at risk. Our current
Sheriff is a Democrat, a Obama supporter and would probably do what Obama asked. Obama is trying to take away American's right to own arms and therefore disarm us. Would the current Sheriff support this action? Of course he would...he is a Democrat. Many Sheriffs across America are Oath Keepers and will not support a Obama dictator urinating on the Constitution. Whoever runs against this Sheriff must run as a Independent, and have similar views as Sheriff Joe in Arizona. If you are a Democrat, I consider you an enemy to this country, because you support a fake president who still can not prove citizenship, is a Muslim, is a Communist, hates America and has alienated our allies. Therefore, Democrats are traitors except for the entitlement people, who suck off the government teat and have no idea what gov-ment be, or how to spell it. These people are Obama's Plantation People, the ones he knows are stupid and will vote for him. We need a Sheriff we can trust and one who is an Oath Keeper. If the current Sheriff is an Oath Keeper, time to let us know. But, I personally don't think so.

Editor's note: Sheriff Adell Dobey has told me countless times he does not believe the position of Sheriff should be a partisan race. However, that is the way the political structure is at this time. I agree it should be changed. If you hope for any challenger to run as an "independent" you will insure their defeat.  I also disagree with the assumption that Sheriff Dobey is an Obama robot. He is very strong in the support of legal gun ownership and self protection. If you want to change the race for Sheriff from
partisan to non-partisan, you have my support.

In fact, I would support it for the Edgefield County Council as well.

With the problems the county is having with break-ins it is foolish to think that there may not be a better way to manage the ECSD. Dobey and his guys may be doing their best. Maybe that’s not enough. Maybe someone else can do it better. One problem our whole country has right now is that we do not limit most of the terms of public office enough and we have come to accept average and mediocre performance from “professional public servants”. We need to expect exceptional. It may be time for a change of the guard. Just maybe.

A suggestion of a change should not always be taken as a personal attack. Didn’t someone once call us the “United States of the Offended”? To many times in this forum opinions are taken too personally. I have been guilty myself. Change has become a curse word the past four years for many of us but without it we may still be clubbing Mammoth for dinner and wearing animal skins.

Like it or not, Romney is the only chance the Republicans have in a national election against Obama. Period. I recognized this four years ago and warned of the outcome if McCain won the nomination. You may like other candidates better for whatever reason but they will not beat Obama. To many factors are at play in elections and have been proven by some studies. Unfortunately the election for President of the U. S. has been turned into a vote for “King of the Prom”, etc… Many capable people will never serve in public office because they are not the most attractive, or the funniest, or the coolest, or the biggest cheese eater.

Besides I believe Romney will bring a good balance of morality and intelligence to the Presidency. He may not beat Obama but he is the only horse with a chance. Bet ya.

I also have great concerns about the upcoming election.  None of the candidates is perfect, and we will never have a perfect candidate.  After considering all of them and watching much of the debates and news, I believe that Romney is our best chance at beating Obama.  He may be a bit moderate for some, but many of the electorate are not as conservate as many South Carolinians. I, too, have always liked Newt Gingrich and have said I would vote for him.  However, I have changed my mind.  I believe he has way too much baggage with him to win –personal and past political.  He is “establishment” to many and will not fare well with many people.  What we people in South Carolina need to do is “look outside the state” and see how the candidates will fare as they go through the primary process.  Will our first choice of candidate do well in California, Montana, New Mexico, or whatever state??  Bottom line is we need to run someone who can beat Obama.  Also, even if the candidate who wins the nomination is not our favorite we need to get behind him and vote for him in November.  To not vote is a vote for OBAMA.

Hello all!  I worked for Obama in 2008 and in 2010 and my family is from Edgefield County.  I would like to share with you all who I'll be voting for in the upcoming GOP Primary, and why.

My first point is that Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman and Rick Santorum will not be on the Virginia primary ballot as a choice.  There are also other ballots they may fail to qualify for, which is a red-flag for me in terms of their executive (or even administrative) ability.  If they were serious about running, this should not have happened.

That leaves two candidates, Ron Paul & Mitt Romney.  Let's compare the record of these two candidates:

Mitt Romney
A champion of socialized medicine in his state, contrasting this against Obamacare will put him behind in the national election.
He was deferred multiple times from the draft, inevitably never serving in the military
Extremely disconnected from the "everyday Joe", which will pin him against Obama and lose Independent and Moderate votes.

Dr. Ron Paul
A doctor who is for private medicine, a Captain who served in the United States Air Force and the Texas Air National Guard.  At the time when he was drafted, Dr. Paul had a wife and two children.
Is very well respected by the military community, and is bringing in the most in campaign contributions from US Service Members.
Supports investigation of Chinese currency manipulation, is well known for his strong monetary policy including auditing the Federal Reserve

If Mitt Romney wins the nomination you can take this to the bank:  the Obama campaign will walk all over him.  Ron Paul will run 3rd party, which will divide the GOP vote.  Young voters will flock to the Obama campaign.

From FOX News "Nearly half of all voters under 30 went for Paul in the first two states to vote"

I hope that you will vote Ron Paul on January 21st.  Like you, I have been let down by Obama and want to see the strongest candidate run against him.

It appears Mr. Jackson is back at the school board meetings, and it appears he has a new message, and as he told the School Board and District, a new agenda.  During his five minutes, he did ask the School Board to suspend TAP until they can confirm if the programs has been implemented legally.  He also told them he new the TAP program was a failure and acknowledged he didn't know much about it.  He stated the clue to TAP being a failed program was, when you get a program implemented because the people voting for the program are the recipients of incentive pay, where do you think their loyalties reside?  With the success of the program, or just insuring they get a little extra cash?

I think someone should contact him and educate him on TAP, and if you want it stopped, get on board and show support.

I would like to see what they have done away from politics, what payroll they ever have met, and how many private jobs they have created or even tried to create. They look desperate, they look angry, and they look stupid. Most importantly they look anti free market

I, too, am tired of Romney being pushed as the best option Republicans have. If he is, he better start learning how to answer the attacks that are being made about him. To say that he and Obama did the same thing (when Obama bailed out the car companies etc.) is not true.  If this is Romney's defense of his own business actions than I am really concerned. Hopefully he knows the difference between free enterprise and government take overs.

I don't like the negative ads. As I am watching and listening, I don't hear as much negativity from Rick Santorum. I am hearing way too much from Newt and Rick Perry. Newt is looking like an angry old man and it is not playing well with folks. When you let  emotions take over, whether in business or politics, the decision making is not always the wisest.

I think Rick Santorum may be the best choice at this point. He seems to steadily plod along and he is definitely a social conservative. He seems good on immigration, entitlements, foreign policy etc.

I just want to see someone who will win in 2012. I want my country back. I don't care about whose feelings have been hurt... I care about someone who has enough backbone to stand up for what is right. This current administration is breaking laws and going against the Constitution yet no one is challenging it. Phasing out the IRS, income tax, securing our borders, returning power to the states, balancing the budget, etc sure don't sound like kookie ideas to me! Maybe Ron Paul is what we need. Someone who will return to the principles that our country was founded on. I was supporting Gingrich, until I took the time to study what Ron Paul is all about.  I encourage everyone to take a hard look at Ron Paul. The man makes sense and is what this country needs!

I would like to say that the ensuring of saftey in the county is definitely a concern of mine.  There may be a few decent employees from what I know, but they also have several who don't do much at all on the job.  The last year has proven, with so many employees leaving seeking other work, that maybe it's not all it's cracked up to be.  I know you say they left for jobs that pay more, but that isn't true for all, in fact not for most.  The "good ole boy" system is surely in effect there.  This last episode that has come up between the two departments probably wasn't all in fun, if the truth be known.  Maybe there needs to be some checking done into the quality of employees, the qualifications needed, and training required and given before handing out guns and badges, the moral ethics expected with the job, the promotion and demotions over the past several years, the connections with certain people that allows preference when upholding the law, etc.  Respect is earned from proving that you are doing a good job correctly and appropriately, not given because of the color of your skin, who you know, or what secrets you have on others.  There are people on the Wanted photos who are seen every day in the county. Why are they not picked up? The law is the law, and should be upheld equally across the board. Maybe a good challenge is needed for November's election.  People need to pay attention.  This is our county and what goes on affects us all.

Editor's note: If you see a wanted person you should contact law enforcement at once. Do not blame them because you did not call. All agencies continuously say the public are their "eyes and ears".

Editor's note: I have spoken with Sheriff Adell Dobey and Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston about this matter. Both agree it is a small internal matter and is being blown way out of proportion. I tend to agree with them. It was not worthy as a "news story" and was directed to WRDW by someone with pull from outside Edgefield County, according to sources.

As far as a deputy being just over the county line in the middle of the night to eat (which is allowed) is also a non-issue in my book. Should all deputies that work the night shift be required to go to the Edgefield Huddle House in order to get something to eat during their overnight shift? If a burglary in progress call came in for the Merriwether area I would much rather that deputy be a mile outside the county responding than one 20+ miles away so that one select resturant can get all the business.

Ref..Johnston Food Bank

I can only hope this food bank is for the express benefit of senior citizens whose Social Security does not provide enough money to cover their needs or families where there is a real necessity and social programs don't provide enough assistance. It is obvious, Johnston's famous Obama Pajama Mamas do not need mo food since they are probably  raking in mo money for all them babies they have, and have made a profession from doing such. Maybe the men who hang out in front of Johnston's famous downtown liquor store are in need of food? They certainly don't work and won't work, but need food to fill their bellies instead of that fine liquor they pass around in those paper bags.
The truth is the food should probably go to the many pets these Obama people don't feed or maybe let Edgefield counties (alleged) famous dog killer loose in town to shoot (the dogs). My caustic remarks are based on my personal observations of the many entitlement people roaming the streets of Johnston who certainly do not look like any have missed a meal recently. Soooo.... Food Bank people, give food to those who really are in need, but for those who look like their backsides are two ax handles wide, tell them to see Obama for mo money.

This guy was a genius and may not have known it. How true it is.

*In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinborough, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.  From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.

I bought a bird feeder. I hung It on my back porch and filled It with seed. What a beauty of A bird feeder it was, as I filled it lovingly with seed. Within a Week we had hundreds of birds Taking advantage of the Continuous flow of free and Easily accessible food.

But then the birds started Building nests in the boards Of the patio, above the table, And next to the barbecue.  Then came the poop. It was Everywhere: on the patio tile, The chairs, the table ..Everywhere!

Then some of the birds Turned mean. They would Dive bomb me and try to Peck me even though I had Fed them out of my own Pocket.

And others birds were Boisterous and loud. They Sat on the feeder and Squawked and screamed at All hours of the day and night And demanded that I fill it When it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even Sit on my own back porch Anymore.  So I took down the Bird feeder and in three days The birds were gone. I cleaned Up their mess and took down The many nests they had built All over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like It used to be .... Quiet, serene....And no one demanding their Rights to a free meal. Now let's see. Our government gives out Free food, subsidized housing, Free medical care and free Education, and allows anyone Born here to be an automatic Citizen.

Then the illegal's came by the Tens of thousands.  Suddenly Our taxes went up to pay for Free services; small apartments Are housing 5 families; you Have to wait 6 hours to be seen By an emergency room doctor; Your child's second grade class is Behind other schools because Over half the class doesn't speak English.

Corn Flakes now come in a Bilingual box; I have to 'press one ' to hear my bank Talk to me in English, and People waving flags other Than 'Old Glory' are Squawking and screaming In the streets, demanding More rights and free liberties.

Just my opinion, but maybe it's time for the government To take down the bird feeder.

I read the letter to the editor and I applaud the author for his military service. However, I am not sure that it makes a lot of difference whether Newt served or not. It is easy to criticize someone else. Not knowing why he didn't serve makes it suspect to criticize him. That was a very difficult time in this country and those who lived through it remember it. There are a lot of strong, good citizens who did not serve in Viet Nam. Again, I do applaud this writer's service and I thank him for that.

I am not sure what Newt's marriage history has to do with military service but I will say that he has been open about his past. He has apologized to his family and dealt with the ones who were actually affected by things. His daughter, who was actually affected by his actions, is out there campaigning with him. That says something about how he has dealt with it. Frankly, his marriage history is no ones business but his and his family. Name calling is unproductive.

Our main goal as Republicans is to have a candidate that can beat Obama. John McCain had the strongest military background I can think of. He could not beat Obama. Let's think about what we need to do in this primary. Focusing on past emotions and hurts is not going to help us put the best candidate out there.

Right now we have a president that does not support the military and uses them (and their income) as a bullying technique. He has caused us to loose standing in the world.

We need to make Obama a one term president. Our country is at stake.

I read that the Edgefield School board is meeting with a bond attorney next Tuesday night. Please tell me that they are not planning on taking on Fox Creek's debt!!! That was never part of the deal and the building of Fox Creek did not go to a referendum for the citizens to vote!

Editor's note: You need not worry. As I understand the situation, it is to re-issue a bond or bonds that are about to pay off during the current fiscal year. Since a 2-year-old was injured falling through the stands at a September 23, 2011 football game and was seriously injured, the insurance company cancelled the insurance on the stadium.

It has to be revamped in order to be able to be used. By re-issuing the bond(s), this will provide the funding without raising taxes. The current debt service rate would remain the same (or could even drop) on tax bills.

The Edgefield County School District cannot take over Fox Creek unless there was a county-wide referendum, which would not pass. Secondly, because of the ill-planned layout of the school, it could not be accepted into the system as is, so that is not going to happen.

Doctors vs. Gun Owners
Doctors
(A)  The number of physicians in the  U.S. is 700,000.
(B)  Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
(C)  Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171

Statistics courtesy of  U.S. Dept of Health  and  Human Services.

Now think about this:

Guns
(A)  The number of gun owners in the  U.S. is 80,000,000. (Yes, that's 80 million)
(B)  The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C)  The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .0000188

Statistics courtesy of FBI

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'

FACT:  NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT Almost everyone has at least one doctor.
This means you are over 9,000 times more likely to be killed by a doctor as by a gun owner!!!

Out of concern for the public at large, the statistics on lawyers ins't included for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!

Economy Adds 200,000 Jobs In December: via HuffPost

Editor's note: What a lie. Leave it to a died in the wool liberal to use a died in the wool liberal "quasi Democrat Government-media" outlet to perpetuate your lies.

175,000 people quit looking for jobs in December due to the Obama controlled economy killing jobs with every step taken. Those who quit looking for work are not counted in the "HuffPo" report, and even when they make a reference to them they lie. It also leaves out the fact that temporary workers were added just for the holiday season. Those jobs have already eneded and are not counted.

The actual number of those unemployed plus those who have taken a meaningless part-time job puts the unemployment rate at 15.2% according to the US Department of Labor under the U-6 published numbers. Even if you use the U-4 (rather than the Obama-media controlled U-3 numbers which can be manipulated by the Obama administration showing 8.5%) the unemployment rate is 9.1%.

The only reason this is not made public is because the entire national media (an arm of the Democrat propaganda machine), will not report the truth because their savior is in office.

A lie is a lie no matter who tells it.

This rather brilliantly cuts thru all the political doublespeak we get. It puts it into a much better perspective.

Lesson # 1:

* U.S. Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000
* Fed budget: $3,820,000,000,000
* New debt: $ 1,650,000,000,000
* National debt: $14,271,000,000,000
* Recent budget cuts: $ 38,500,000,000

Let's now remove 8 zeros and pretend it's a household budget:

* Annual family income: $21,700
* Money the family spent: $38,200
* New debt on the credit card: $16,500
* Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
* Total budget cuts: $385

Got It ?????

OK now Lesson # 2: Here's another way to look at the Debt Ceiling:

Let's say, You come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood ....and your home has sewage all the way up to your ceilings.

What do you think you should do ...... Raise the ceilings, or pump out the crap?

Your choice is coming Nov. 2012

re Gee what could possibly go wrong for Obama?

I agree with all the facts in this article but I worry about those that are not informed or that live day to day on what they believe Obama has promised them or given them. Some of the electorate is not very smart and vote based on race, hype or just stupidity. Employment numbers are being tampered with, appointments are being made by this president that will help with the election, the chance of a third party candidate, etc. etc. could really influence this election. There is also a possible plan out there that will give folks a chance to refinance home loans (an unbelievable plan with the history of how these things went in the past plus it leaves most of us holding the bag). He will stoop to anything to get re elected and I am not sure it will matter who the Republican candidate is. There is so much manipulating going on it is crazy. Unfortunately too many people will fall for these shenanigans.

Any President who has done what this one has should be looked at carefully. The appointment this week alone was unconstitutional, different from the ones Bush did in case, and in my opinion is grounds for impeachment (among other things this administration has done). He is testing the waters folks and will continue down this road.  Come on Republicans and stand up for what is really right in this country. Washington is so broken. Who is strong enough to fix it? Pray people pray! We are headed for some very rocky times.

A Huge New State Agency Is Being Formed in SC, It will be known as the I-95 Corridor, and we, The Citizens, have just one chance to stop it!
During the 2011 session of the general assembly, one left-leaning Republican senator, Hugh Leatherman, led a team of seven of his liberal Democrat colleagues to co-sponsor and push through S-211, the
legislation to create a new, big government agency comprised of 19 mostly unelected bureaucrats with unlimited power and control over local governments, infrastructures, schools, taxes and hundreds of
millions of dollars in public spending.  In other words, control of the public purse!

Fortunately, Gov. Haley vetoed S-211.  But the senate (inexplicably) overrode the veto.  So now, it is up to the SC People's House to stop this costly, bloated and offensive Soviet-style government agency.

This legislation has largely flown below the radar and most of the representatives outside the 17 counties along I-95 assumed it would have little impact on their constituents.  The truth is that this only
serves to grow government bigger and take control away from the local level.  Once this agency is formed it will gradually spread throughout the State.  Government simply does not have the ability to
successfully plan our life!

This is unbelievable! At a time when hardworking taxpayers are begging for relief from out-of-control government spending, what were our representatives thinking???  We elected them to conduct the People's business in a frugal, responsible way...we didn't want them to abdicate their most
important responsibility!

The House is scheduled to vote on the Governor's veto of S-211 on January 10th!!.   William Clyburn - Dist. 82  -- 803-734-3033 BillClyburn@schouse.gov and James Roland Smith - Dist. 84 --   803-734-3114
RolandSmith@schouse.gov  voted for S-2ll originally.  Please contact them (and others throughout the State) and tell them this is not good for the people of South Carolina!

Re: animal shelter
I have been watching all the brouhaha about the animal shelter that is going to be built and have a couple questions I'd like answers to. Why is the Sheriff in charge of animal control? And why is this such a big deal? We lived in at least 9 states that I can name off the top of my head before we retired and moved to Edgefield 4 yrs ago and the city or county was in charge of animal control and not the sheriff or police chief in every one.

Editor's note: Prior to 2000 the county did manage the animal control. The county surrendered it to Sheriff Dobey and it has been under his control ever since. Prior to Sheriff Dobey taking over, no matter what the animal control officer at the time found when he or she arrived, they did not have the power of arrest.

As to why it is such a "big deal"? I have no idea. It will save the county money each year and the cost of building it will be recovered in just a few years. There seems to be one main objector to it - an admittedly a "lifetime libertarian activist". Otherwise known as someone who gets attention by opposing whatever the issue of the day is to get time in the media. I have a feeling that if the county already had a shelter and were going to shut it down and send the animals to Aiken County he/she would be opposing them doing so.

Editor's note: I have no idea where you got that understanding, but it is incorrect. Chief Magistrate Brenda Carpenter asked one question regarding the building of the shelter and it being managed by the Sheriff's Animal Control Deputy. Carpenter was concerned that it would be an overload on the deputy and the Sheriff's Office, which she said was already stretched thin. She was assured it would not be and that was the end of her discussion with the county council. To me, that would be coming to the defense of the deputy and the Sheriff's Office, not "bashing" either one.

RE:  "The murder trial of Alexander Louis Hunsberger, 33, in relation to the death of 16-year-old...."

After they convict the #$@%&s, let's give them the same sentence they meted out.  Why waste taxpayer money housing these pieces of fecal matter!

I never saw a mention about the make up of the jury. Is it mostly white, black, male or female? What's your guess on him (Hunsburger) being found guilty?

Editor's note: I generally only count male or female, but since you asked I recorded the following on Thursday. The jury consists of four black males, four white males, three black women and three white women. Two of them are alternates and will not take part in deliberations (not sure which two). Not that it matters. With three of the six charged in the murder taking the stand to say, yeah, we did it, there is a very slim chance he is going to be found not guilty. Whether Hunsburger shot the fatal shot (or no shot at all for that matter), in for a penny in for a pound - everybody involved is responsible for the murder even if they just stood there.

Granted, I have seen juries do the unexpected over the years, so you never really know.

Iowa, Endorsements and a Possibility
Mitt Romney's first place tie with Rick Santorum in the Iowa Caucuses have resulted in some curious punditry. It's far too early in the electoral process to divine great wads of wisdom from the results, but some ideas are beginning to take shape.

I read the (Citzen News) story about Mrs Strom and (County Council Vice-Chairwoman) Blackwell and was surprised to see this, "Blackwell is the first Republican woman to serve on County Council, the first woman vice-chair, and the first woman County Council member from the Merriwether District."

I like Mrs. Blackwell and think she is doing a fantastic job, but she is not the first woman vice chair and she's not the first woman from the Meriwether district. Hazel Kitchens used to be on the council and Betty Butler used to be vice chairman.

You are correct. Blackwell is not the first woman from the "Merriwether District", she is the first woman from "Merriwether" to hold the seat. She is not the first Republican woman from District 5, that, as you stated, was Hazel Kitchens. She was elected prior to Danny Bishop winning against her in the late 90's. Kitchens lives in the Westside which used to be part of the Merriwether District before the redistricting in 2000. Blackwell is the first Republican vice-chair, not the first woman vice-chair, that was Betty Butler (D-Bettis Academy) I think in 1996 or 98.

Blackwell is the first (man or woman) county council member from Merriwether (or District 5) to ever be elected to a leadership position.

I was so glad to see how well Rick Santorum did in Iowa. He is the true conservative in the race, other than Michelle Bachman. I don't think she will continue on for long. I wish Mr. Santorum well and hope that if he is not the top one on the ticket, maybe a VP position would help the conservatives live with Romney if he is the nominee. We do need to be careful of the crazy uncle in the basement, Ron Paul. The main thing is that we need to defeat Obama. I would vote for Mickey Mouse if he was the Republican nominee. ABO=Anyone But Obama or as I read yesterday-OMG! The problem is there are people who still, still do not see the danger this country is in. ABO  and OMG!

Happy New Year an congrats on a great year in 2011. Keep up the good work. The new year brings new challenges. I have stated before on the wandering minds about signs going up wanting masters tickets. I have family who works for the Augusta National an they will tell you not to fall for this scam. It goes on at every sporting event but the Masters is different. They police their tickets an you will lose your privilege to ever receive tickets if caught. They will know at the gate. I know a lot of people who have been caught. Be careful edgefield county an aiken county. That’s where I see the most signs. Go Gamecocks!!!!!!

Subject: Tonopah Solar Power
The Solar thing just got a little more interesting
The Tonopah Solar company in Harry Reid's Nevada is getting a $737 million loan from Obama's DOE.
The project will produce a 110 megawatt power system and employ 45 permanent workers.
That's costing us just $16 million per job.
One of the investment partners in this endeavor is Pacific Corporate Group (PCG).
The PCG executive director is Ron Pelosi who is the brother to Nancy 's husband

The Republicans need a candidate that can beat Obama. I am not sure Ron Paul has that ability. He is an old man that seems a little strange to a lot of folks. I worry about his foreign policy views and some of his more radical social views. The main thing in this election is to get rid of Obama and I don't think Paul is the man to do that. We need someone that actually could get elected. Ron Paul has a strong base of supporters but it won't grow enough in the general election to get him elected. He is too odd. The more information people find out about all of his views, the more odd he becomes. There has to be a better candidate out there.

I was at the (county) council meeting tonight and left after an hour because it seemed they were going to talk about nothing other than the shelter. I wanted to speak on the speed limit on Timberland Ln but I have a family to feed. I've never been to a meeting but if this is how it is done I won't be back! I hope they passed the 15 mph speed limit.

Editor's note: It did pass. A full report on the meeting will not be available until Thursday due to the meeting running so late. Some of the matters are listed in the Headlines.

Add my thanks and applause of appreciation  to our County Council Chairman Mr. Campbell, Vice Chairman Mrs. Blackwell, Mr. Ashcraft and Mr. LeDuc for their efforts in such a short time.   What a waste the past 15-20 years have been in this county with the previous leadership and do nothing members, administration and "leaders in the community" who have all had a personal interest  in keeping the county from growing.
Keep up the good work everyone.  Let's have a great 2012 and beyond!

I see a lot of good things happening and I think it has as much to do with Dean (Campbell, Chairman), Mrs Blackwell (Vice-chair), Mr Ashcraft (councilman), and the county administrator (Roger LeDuc). They've done more in the last year than anyone else did in the past ten years or so. Look at all the ways they want to grow the county rather than just sitting still. I find it very refreshing and promising. Keep up the good work!

The presidential candidates would do well to wrap their minds and messages around these seven mathematical facts:
  •     Every day, the U.S. government takes in $6 billion and spends $10 billion.  This means that every day the federal government spends $4 billion more dollars than it has.
  •     The real unemployment rate is a jaw-dropping 11 percent.
  •     Every fifth man you pass on your way to work is now out of work.
  •     College graduates are now 34% less likely to find a job under Obama than they were under President George W. Bush.
  •     Every seventh person you pass on the sidewalk now relies on food stamps.
  •     The ravages of the Obama economy now mean that more Americans live under the federal poverty line than at any time in U.S. history since records have been kept.
  •     Under President Barack Obama, every fifth child in America now lives in poverty.

MAN OF THE HOUSE

A husband had just finished reading a new book entitled, You Can Be THE Man of Your House.
Finding new courage that he never knew he had, he stormed into the kitchen and announced to his wife,
"From now on, you need to know that I am the man of this house and my word is the 'Law.'

You will prepare me a gourmet meal tonight, bring it to me, and when I am done eating my meal, you will clear the dishes and serve me a scrumptious dessert. After dinner, you are going to go upstairs with me and we will make love the way I want!

Afterwards, you are going to draw me a bath so I can relax. You will put on soothing music, wash my back and towel me dry and bring me my robe. You will massage my feet and hands to relieve any last bit of tension so that I can sleep like a baby.

Then tomorrow, guess who's going to dress me and comb my hair?"

The wife replied, "The funeral director would be my first guess, unless I have your (rear end) cremated."
