Merriwether Community Coalition set this meeting for just the reason
the reader stated. We do not want to become a repeat of Columbia

posted February 29, 2012 In reference to the cost of using an
electric vehicle:
I am in no position to purchase an electric vehicle anytime soon, and I
sure don't vote Demo, but let's get one fact straight real fast:
None of us are paying over a dollar per kWh. I average about 55
kWh per day in my house, and at a dollar per kWh, I would be paying
over $1500 per month for my electricity. Instead I pay closer to
$170 per month. The facts are that most of us nationwide are
paying between 10 and 15 CENTS per kWh.
So if you re-do the horribly inaccurate mathematics used by the
previous poster, you will get a totally different picture. Most
of you won't do that though. You will take the garbage earlier

posted February 28, 2012 I just wanted to share my opinion about
development in Edgefield county with the rest of the readers.
First off let me say that I have been to a couple of the steering
comitee meetings and I applaud the effort put in by the county council
and the concerned citizens whom are trying to make this a better place
to live. I think that the sewer line project is a good idea and I am
glad that they are making an effort to keep the city of North Augusta
from annexing large parts of Edgefield county.
The only point of contention that I have is this. I am a lifelong
resident of the west side of Edgefield county. The place I live on was
bought by my great grandfather around 110 years ago. I live where I do
because I enjoy the rural setting and the freedom that comes with it. I
am afraid that developing with to much vigor will destroy the unique
and irreplaceable community that we currently have here and I dont just
mean where I live but countywide. I am not an isolationist but I also
in no way shape or form want what has happened to Columbia County to
happen here. The taxes are high, the property is high, and it is
rapidly becoming just an extension of Augusta. I am afraid that if that
sort of development comes here that it will price lifelong residents
out of the county. I feel that the longtime residents are the backbone
of the communities around here and that losing them would be a tragedy.
In closing let me say that all I want is for us to proceed with alot of
caution and care and lets keep this the place that we all love.
Editor's note: There is a community meeting set for March 5 at 6:30 pm

For a small town, these scumbags should not be in such numbers. Did you

posted February 28, 2012 Thanks to the person who recently set
everyone straight about the athletic scholarships at Wardlaw. It is
good to hear that Wardlaw does not have athletic scholarships. If they
did offer scholarships they should fire their recruiting coordinator! I
mean get real, does Wardlaw really have elite athletes? Besides a
personal preference for the type of educational environment one
desires, I was puzzled as to why an elite athlete would have any
interest in attending Wardlaw.
It is amazing how delusional people can be about their relevance in the
world. Wardlaw does excel in athletics, but on its level.
Being champion of the SCISA 8 man football league is a great
accomplishment, but does anyone really believe that is high level
competition? As was clearly stated in an earlier post, unless you
have a connection to the school, a persons opinion does not matter in
regards to Wardlaw. I agree with that. However, as a result of my
infinite wisdom in regards to all things related to football, baseball,
etc., I would like to suggest the following.
Wardlaw should offer full ride scholarships to elite athletes. Just
imagine, Wardlaw would be able to recruit elite athletes with no
geographic restraints! The Wardlaw community could provide room and
board in their homes or build dormitories for these elite athletes.
Wardlaw should build a state of the art football stadium, hire an elite
coach, join the SCHSL to compete at the highest AAAA level, and
schedule games with elite national powers from other states. As a
result of doing these things Wardlaw would become a nationally known
athletic power, and would realize unprecedented growth.
The tuition dollars would begin to flow in as a result of young people
desiring to be a part of such a nationally renowned educational
institution known for its elite athletic program. Wardlaw would then
become truly relevant and realize its rightful place in the world. This
would be good for Edgefield county. Now before you begin to think
that this can't be done, many of the nationally ranked athletic
programs are private schools. I'm not trying to be a smart aleck
about this, but If my advice is not taken, Wardlaw will have to accept
its irrelevant stature in the world as the tallest midget in the SCISA
8 man midget league. By the way, is 8 man football real football? Just
wondering. web

Schooll Administration. Specialist means Ed.S or Education Specialist,

Applicants must have a Specialist degree or higher in education with an
emphasis on school administration from an accredited college or
university; doctorate preferred. Applicants must be eligible for
certification as a superintendent in South Carolina or eligible for the
Alternative South Carolina Superintendent Certification. If you do not
hold a South Carolina superintendent’s certificate, please contact: The

posted February 28, 2012 Eric Bolling (Fox Business Channel's
Follow the Money) test drove the Chevy Volt at the invitation of
General Motors.
For four days in a row, the fully charged battery lasted only 25 miles
before the Volt switched to the reserve gasoline engine. Eric
calculated the car got 30 mpg including the 25 miles it ran on the
battery. So, the range including the 9 gallon gas tank and the 16 kwh
batery is approximately 270 miles. It will take you 4 1/2 hours to
drive 270 miles at 60 mph. Then add 10 hours to charge the battery and
you have a total trip time of 14.5 hours. In a typical road trip your
average speed (including charging time) would be 20 mph.
According to General Motors, the Volt battery hold 16 kwh of
electricity. It takes a full 10 hours to charge a drained battery.
The cost for the electricity to charge the Volt is never mentioned so I
looked up what I pay for electricity.
I pay approximately (it varies with amount used and the seasons) $1.16
per kwh.
16 kwh x $1.16 per kwh = $18.56 to charge the battery.
$18.56 per charge divided by 25 miles = $0.74 per mile to operate the
Volt using the battery.
Compare this to a similar size car with a gasoline engine only that
gets 32 mpg.
$3.19 per gallon divided by 32 mpg = $0.10 per mile.
The gasoline powered car cost about $15,000 while the Volt costs
$46,000.
So Obama wants us to pay 3 times as much for a car that costs more than
7 times as much to run and takes 3 times as long to drive across
country.
REALLY?
Editor's note: Don't you know that Liberal and Left wing Democrats
don't care about facts? You must be a radical "right winger" and a

There is one problem with your statement. Wardlaw Academy does

in taxpayer dollars. All the athletes that go to school there pay
tuition. Wardlaw does not offer any type of athletic

I hate to be unprofessional but I can't think of any other way to say
it, you are clueless. What difference does it make whether we are in
the city or out of the city. I personally like being in the city

source in any situation. Most of what is in wandering minds is just
opinion and is often from folks who have no real connection to the

even told that all of our questions would be answered. Do we have to be
there to ask our questions in person? Can we post our questions here
and trust that they will be answered in a truthful manner?
Are you serious? Why exactly do you care? Who are you anyway? Are you
married? Do you have children? How much money do you bring in to your
household a year? What are your monthly expenses? Do you pay taxes? How
big was your tax refund last year? How much money have you borrowed
from a relative or friend in the last few years? Where do you work? Do
you even work? Where do you live? Do you own your home or do you rent?
Do these questions seem invasive to you? Maybe even sound a
little unreasonable? Of course they do. That is because they most
certainly are.
You see Wardlaw Academy is a private entity. It owes you absolutely
nothing!!! No explanation, no answers, absolutely nothing. It is
only required to answer to whomever it gets its accreditation from, its
Board of Directors and the parents who send their children to that
school. You are not entitled to any information. Try walking into your
doctors office and demanding a head count of how many patients he or
she sees, how much they are charged per visit, and if any special
favors are given to any patients who can't afford his or her
services. Is that fair? Does it really matter? Do you see where I
am going with this? You are making yourself look like an idiot!
I have no ties what so ever to Wardlaw Academy, but it absolutely
floored me that people, like you, demanding answers from the
"Entitlement Camp" feel you are somehow "entitled" to information
you have no right to. And we wonder why our young people feel they are

They knew how to run a school district. I am not sure some teachers, or
the "educators", would be able to lead a district. I do worry about the
good old boy system in Edgefield, but I like Greg Anderson and he
certainly knows the county and the board of education. Hasn't he been
the lawyer for the school board for a long time? Was Dr. Crenshaw

someone you know, rather than someone who may look good on paper. It
also may be good to have someone who knows the past problems we have

for all school expenses.

Re: better than it does now [enrollment before new headmaster]

students for whatever reasons, but not so much their parents who come
on a public forum and spew hatred. Almost all of the cancer is gone now.
Re: Nepotism runs rampant at Wardlaw and attempting to address that

Answer: I’d rather have John Doe’s brother/sister/aunt/uncle/cousin if
they truly care about the students, than a parent or former teacher who
come on a public forum to spew hatred.
Re: As for who is running the school- the people with the deepest

Answer: It’s called a Board of Directors, each member, regardless of
income or stature, with one vote. Man, I wish tuition was based on deep
pockets – I’d pay nothing compared to others.
Re: The current headmaster believes he can run the school on 140

I believe you hit the nail on the head! Somebody somewhere in the
Edgefield County School Board and the school system knew about this or
should have known about this problem before the “incident”. Whoever
knew about it that works or sits on the board should be fired and or
removed! Here is even more proof that someone in the school system and
even the School Board isn’t doing their jobs! There is a set of
bleachers at Merriwether Middle School made of wood, with no hand
rails, falling apart, THAT IS A LAWSUIT waiting to happen.
The Monday after the “incident” happened at STHS Friday night football
game, someone from the school system/school board should have went
around to ALL the schools in the county with BLEACHERS and made sure
they were SAFE! Did that happen? Are the bleachers still standing at
Merriwether Middle? Why does it take an “incident” to get the ball
rolling in this county? Then when it gets rolling someone changes it to
something it shouldn’t be? We don’t need to spend millions of TAX
payer’s money on BLING BLING so a head coach will stay! We need to make
sure our schools are fixed and ready for our kids first!
I think it’s time to start at the top! CLEAN HOUSE in the EDGEFIELD

things or GET OUT! “Editor's note: You are correct, taxpayer do have a

I do understand bond referendum. The point is nobody in the county
would have a problem with extending the bond to keep the millage rate
the same for money to fix our ageing schools.
A. The problem TAX payers would have and do have is how this whole
thing got started.
B. The “REAL” reason for the “project”. (to please a coach?)
C. How much money STHS/BOOSTERS want to spend.
D. The “list” that we all know will never get done.

3, 4, 5 will slip through the cracks.

Wardlaw has a school full of very talented, well rounded
students. While many of the Upper School students are athletes,
they are just as strong in the classroom as they are on the athletic
teams on which they participate. Our student athletes are
students first and foremost. Just because the public schools all

don't be so narrow minded as to assume that private schools have the
same issues. We are not held back by the governmental red tape
that ties the hands of many great teachers that are stuck in that awful

It seems to me that each time there is an uproar with the Edgefield

direction to divert attention. My family has been associated with
this school for a very long time, and we are thrilled with how the

supportive. While we appreciate your concern, the school is doing just

board knows it. Teachers had the right to vote on TAP before it
was implemented in the schools. We were denied this right.
How is that fair? Are we just ignoring this because too many
people will be affected if we vote now? Someone should have
thought about that before unfairly implementing TAP in the most
underhanded manner possible and those who took positions should have
thought about what would happen if the process were questioned.
The main person responsible may be gone but someone who took her place
should be addressing it.
"NIET reviews applications and selects schools based on their
demonstrated ability to implement the system completely and
effectively, ability to fund and sustain the system, as well as the
level of faculty interest in participating in the system. Application
to TAP is competitive, and teachers in the schools must vote to join
the system."

regarding the renovation for the football stadium. What amazes me is
the lack of understanding regarding the use of the bond to pay for this

other schools in the area. Football is an important asset to our
country. I say
asset because many students learn life lessons while playing the game,
and it is an encouragement to many to complete high school and pursue a
college degree. It teaches young men how to work together as a
team with individuals with whom they many not normally befriend. This
sport has also united a community.
You only have to attend one game to realize that fact. We avoided a
lawsuit this past season only because the family of the little girl did
not want to damage our school. Safety should be a priority. If we
want the football program to continue, some changes must be made.
Furthermore, Lee Sawyer is the main reason we have an outstanding
football program. I have sons that have played or him, and they
have great respect for him. Children were in tears last week
after learning of the offer to him from Batesburg. To our school
board, this is not just a question of a new stadium but of maintaining
an individual who has been instrumental in the success of our football

I have said all this to say: unfortunately, Edgefield is not the only
county suffering. Because Edgefield in our community and we hurt for
what goes on here, we know we--as SC citizens--need to be careful in
how we vote and who we chose to lead us. People who think they have all
the answers and who publicly state "I do not need teachers to tell me
how to do my job!"(Dr. Zais' own words!) are so far detached from
real life in the public school classroom! They need to be removed from
their positions. web

FOOTBALL - The Song of the South. Teachers need to know if
TAP will continue in the same haphazard fashion??? Will this be
addressed? Or will it just continue on in the same old way
because one Master Teacher happens to be married to a Board
Member? And don't Master Teachers get an extra $10,000.00 or more
each year above their regular teaching salary ???? What do Master
Teachers do???? How do they earn this money? This needs to be
addressed and the best way is for teachers to be contacted about the
leadership at their school. If you think teachers in this
district are satisfied with the leadership in their school then you
best think again. Take a look school board if you really want to
SEE where the problems are. It's a lot more than a new stadium and a
football coach.. The foundation of our school district has been
crumbling at the elementary level. Look at the leadership to blame for
this - you see teachers are a team and a principal is like a coach.
Find a good coach and you will have a good team. Find a coach that
teachers believe in and you will have an awesome school - Do you have
any awesome principals in this district? web

What is the most lasting impression that you leave Strom Thurmond

the Strom Thurmond coaching staff showed by pulling the starters
mid-way through the third-quarter so not to run the score up and

B) The class and hospitality the board showed by placing the

to lose coach Sawyer to Batesburg. Please believe this can happen!
After much planning and even meeting with architects the board would
not even bring it to a vote( Brad Covar and Carroll Waits). Brad even
ask a business man in the community to come and speak against the plan.
The day after the board meeting Coach Sawyer agreed to meet w/
Batesburg. He has met and is waiting on an offer before deciding. They
were already into their second interviews and have shut the process
down to talk to Coach Sawyer.
I walk in the gate at STROM THURMOND and still get cold chills thinking
about everything I experienced on this field 43 years ago!! Then I look
at the stands and dressing rooms and the feelings turn to embarrassment
. They have been here since the 60’s people, please. The state champion
has to come through Strom Thurmond nearly every year. Now let’s build a
stadium and facilities that we can be as proud of as we are our team
and coaches, or are we?
Come on Brad and Carroll you are the hold up!!
Look at the Strom Thurmond page Rebel Zone and see how proud they are
of the stadium. Take the school grounds tour you will find one picture
of the front gate to the stadium. I’m asking you to call your

allowed to live! Everyone that writes to Edgefielddaily was a fetus
(baby) that was allowed to live! We are the fortunate ones and I say we
need to thank a conservative for protecting our lives. Funny how the
discussion is no longer abortion but is becoming "birth control".
Somehow, I just don't see killing one's child as birth control. If a
child is murdered after birth, the parent is usually held accountable.
What is the difference between killing a child before or after a
birth? I guess one is murder, the other is just a convenience. A
child is a child. Murder is murder. There is no way to
rationalize it any other way. Sorry.
As far as who can marry who, I think the only guide we have for that is
the Bible. It is pretty clear on that topic. One can argue with a
conservative but I don't think it is wise to argue with God.
As far as what we put in our bodies, at least conservatives are not the
food nazis who are checking children's lunch boxes. They are not
going around and telling restaurants what they can serve. If any group
can be accused of controlling what we put in our bodies, I think the
liberals win on that one. Good grief-just more of our rights gone.
I am so glad small towns have big industries. Now, what exactly are the
big ones in Edgefield? I think I have missed something there. The big
industries in most of the small towns around here must do a good job of
hiding themselves. Conservatives are actually trying to help small
businesses. It is too bad that the liberals have imposed so many
restrictions and taxes on small businesses. Obamacare is going to kill
the ones that are still functioning.
I love being a conservative because I don't care if anyone thinks I am
an idiot. I know better-it is always better to be" right" (in both
senses of that word). web

several school board meetings, when he has been challenged, he always
makes sure we know he's been on the board for the last 20 years.
Maybe that's the problem - same ole, same ole. If they have known
for the last 10 years the stadium had safety issues why weren't they
fixed? Why did it take an accident to get something moving?
If the school board/district knew that for the last 10 years are they
not negligent? So, instead of fixing the problem and him-hawing over it
to where it'll take another decade to get something done, how many
children will be at risk? And what if a child dies the next
time? Fixing the stands to be safe should be TOP PRIORITY -
(YESTERDAY)!!!!! Let's see, for years they have been spending
money upgrading regular hotel rooms to luxury suites; having
conferences at Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, etc.; paying Superintendents
exorbitant salaries; hiring an HR and doubling the salary; calling
board meetings for every little issue, etc. And they can't even
muster up enough money to fix the stands to safety standards? And
Covar's been the stumbling block. He wanted to take the last
issue of hiring an architect into executive session. When asked
by Hoffman why, he said there were a number of questions that needed to
be asked. When pressed, the only question he had was - Was there
anyone being considered related to anyone on the Board or in the
District?
Tell ya where you can get the money necessary to fix the stands to
safety standards. Collect all cellular phones from Board/District
personnel. Re-issue 10-one to Board Chairman, one to
Superintendent, one to each of the Principals-cancel all others.
Get rid of the fax machines at Board members residences. Cancel
all conferences for the year. Cut Superintendent's salary by
$30K; cut Asst. Superintendent's salary by $20K; Cut one assistant
Principal at MES. Fire about 1/2 dozen teachers that should not
be allowed in our schools to teach anything. Tell Booby Turner
it's time to Retire - Move Mr. Butler up to take that position.
That should be a start. web

know he'll probably never get the nod. Hell, they can't even vote
on the simple act of hiring an architect so they can figure out what

That's two board meetings wasted on one simple and silly issue,

Brother Bibbs when Greg threw his hat in the ring? The Board
considered doing an in-house search in an effort to save money, but
look what the board gave us that took our schools on the downward

problems with the Johnston H&R Block office? MY son went there to
get his taxes done and asked them about the free tax preparation that
they advertise on tv and the woman told him that South Carolina law
does not allow them to do that and told him it would be $85 to do his
taxes. At that point he left and came home and told me what had
happened. I went on there web site and it states that not only do they
do free EZ Federal returns but they will also do free state returns if
you live in one of the states on the list . Guess what South Carolina
was on the list so called them. The lady told me they could not do free
returns because of South Carolina law and when I told her what I was
reading on there web page she changed her story to well your son does
not have any dependents. I told the women that it seems to me they are
using the H&R Block name to get business but not wanting to be
bothered with there promotions and I was calling the home office. When
I called the home office I informed them of what had happened and was
told that they indeed do the free EZ federal and state returns in South
Carolina and the Johnston office is on the list of the participating
offices. The home office suggested filing a formal complaint with them
which I did that way they could follow up. I feel that because my son
is only 17 they figured he would not know any better and just pay them.

am willing to bet that others have paid to them for their. 10-40 EZ

a very insecure little man standing on the shoulders of the other

Mr. Editor, I noticed that the wording of the story that ran Monday was
not the same as the paper. Did you get a different version or did you
edit out most of the content? I would be surprised if I find out you
edited campaign material by a candidate.
Editor's note: Be surprised. Dean Campbell did send the same article

they wanted to know just by reading the headline and the edited
announcement was placed to reach the maximum number of readers for the

that the ones that hang out near the Liquor store in Johnston were just
bums, alcoholics, or in general anti work. I, for one, feel
that we owe them an “apology”. I feel so bad that they have been
misunderstood all these years. They are so far ahead of the rest
of the nation.
They are Occupiers ! This is the rage that has swept the nation
and to think it started here in little old Johnston. Occupy
Johnston ! Just think it all started here.
They do want to be “given” things as we see all over the
country. Free liquor, money, so far all they have is their
ability to gather up. I don’t think they have any interest in a
job or work of any nature. No, no a job would interrupt their
“hangin’ out” and we can’t have that. So far, at least they have
been peaceful. Or just too drunk to cause troubles.
I do believe they contribute to the local economy. I wonder how
many two dollar half pints of whiskey were paid for with “guvment”
check money? But all that liquor must come back out somewhere and
I don’t know of a bathroom nearby. Perhaps Johnston can “give”

posted February 16, 2012 Anyone else tired of the accusation that
Republicans, i.e. conservatives, don't have a heart or that they are
backward and stupid? Conservatives probably do more to support the
needy in this country and other countries than all the liberals put
together. What the liberals do not understand is that they are
believing a lot of lies and misconceptions. I am not saying that some
liberals don't have a heart. They are just misguided. All you have to
do is look at the examples of liberals in the media. The best one is
our President and his adorable wife. What exactly are they doing for
anyone other than themselves? How do you celebrate the end of the Iraq
war by having a big dinner for yourself and your friends? What about
the ones who sacrificed? How do you take expensive and unnecessary
trips on our dime and then talk about all the needs in this country?
How do you lie to the American people and not have a conscience? Is
that having a good heart? It is selfish and arrogant. Yet this is the
known leader of the liberal movement-the movement that has a
"heart".
Most liberals who have such bleeding hearts are sitting pretty
comfortably in their own lives. How many of them are really in the
trenches of helping others? Some are, but I know so many conservative,
or Christian people who are really in the trenches. Lots of talk from
liberals, not much real proof of "heart" in my opinion.
Conservatives care enough about folks to want them to do well and have
self worth. The children may need help but it doesn't help to keep them
in the cycle of poverty. Why is that so hard to understand? If you give
a man a fish you feed him for the day. If you teach him to fish you
feed him for his life. It doesn't help anyone to continually give them
assistance if they don't eventually learn to take care of themselves.
Keeping them on assistance is the cruelest thing you can do and does
not show "heart". It is allowing others to control the poor. It
actually creates a class system and it is going to explode in this
country.
Liberals cannot see beyond themselves. As far as people from Edgefield
having wrong ideas, it isn't Edgefield. It is a misunderstanding what
is really going on in this country and blaming a place for it. Some
people that think they are so smart and forward thinking. That forward
thinking is destroying the best and strongest nation in the world. We
are becoming a third world country.
The core beliefs of the conservative movement are really to help people
but it has been so misrepresented that people believe the lies. It is
sad to see young people who think only with their "hearts" to a
point that they don't really understand what they believe. They don't
understand the ramifications of what they think they believe. It is
really important to study history and not just believe the media. So,
so much has been distorted-I really pity the young who don't really
know what this country was and could be again. web

recovery so there should be lots of jobs out there, or so the liberals
are saying) pay taxes like some of us do, and quit watching mainstream
TV-just do a little check on Media Matters. There is an eye opener.
The problem is that a lot of folks are content to be takers and they
have no hope of a better future. I guess if all you want to do is
exist, then be a liberal and support this administration. Sit there and
get fatter and have more medical problems I can pay for. I actually
have goals for myself and my children. That seems to be a crazy idea
any more. I am tired of being told to just be content paying for the
lazy ones that just sit and let others support them. They just don't
get it-or maybe they do. I know they get a lot from me. web
posted February 15, 2012 Wow, I cannot believe the assumptions that
was made from post, I Vote Republican. I was only having fun with the
post on voting Democrat.
First, I did not state in my posting that I do not either believe in or
support our American troops. America's soldiers will always have my
gratitude, loyalty, and prayers. I simply believe there was no need for
their presence in the Middle East. There was no need for America to
waste its' time and energy on war that should not have happen to begin.
Like many Americans, I have lost love ones from the War, and I strongly
feel their deaths were evitable.
Second, I did not grow up on federal government services. I am a true
product of hard working people (my parents), and I am extremely proud
of it. In honesty, there is not a big difference between you and me
except for political views. The biggest difference is having a heart. I
understand that there are Americans who take advantage of federal
government services, but we, as united countrymen, should not punish
children for their parents' doing and should not be willing to help
people who are in need. I do not want greed to overshadow the
hard-working Americans who need extra help in order to make a better
life.
Third, I am not a Caucasian, and I will vote Democrap.
Fourth, the responses that I receive from post is simply the reason
that I am embarrassed to either write or inform others that I am from
Edgefield County. The ignorance and prejudice in this county makes me
more thankful for my parents' encouragement and drive to attend college
that was not within thirty minutes distance of Edgefield. web

haven’t seen anything on EdgefieldDaily about it. Is it true?
Editor's note: Yes, it is true. Fox Creek has never wanted to be
identified as Merriwether and had always leaned on out of district
students to stay alive. It says a lot about the "local school" when
they abandon their own community and county. Obviously they could not
stay afloat with local support and this was their only option. I
suppose there were not enough kids being expelled from Strom Thurmond
to boost their numbers so they are reaching out to Aiken County and
North Augusta. web
posted February 15, 2012 A Tourist walked into a Chinese curio shop
in San Francisco. While looking around at the exotic merchandise,
he noticed a very lifelike, life-sized, bronze statue of a rat.
It had no price tag, but was so incredibly striking the tourist decided
he must have it. He took it to the old shop owner and asked, "How
much for the bronze rat ?"
"Ahhh, you have chosen wisely! It is $12 for the rat and $100 for
the story," said the wise old Chinaman.
The tourist quickly pulled out twelve dollars. "I'll just take
the rat, you can keep the story".
As he walked down the street carrying his bronze rat, the tourist
noticed that a few real rats had crawled out of the alleys and sewers
and had begun following him down the street. This was a bit
disconcerting so he began walking faster.
A couple blocks later he looked behind him and saw to his horror the
herd of rats behind him had grown to hundreds, and they began
squealing.
Sweating now, the tourist began to trot toward San Francisco Bay .
Again, after a couple blocks, he looked around only to discover that
the rats now numbered in the MILLIONS, and were squealing and coming
toward him faster and faster.
Terrified, he ran to the edge of the Bay and threw the bronze rat as
far as he could into the Bay.
Amazingly, the millions of rats all jumped into the Bay after the
bronze rat and were all drowned.
The man walked back to the curio shop in Chinatown .
"Ahhh," said the owner, "You come back for story ?"
"No sir," said the man, "I came back to see if you have a bronze

is a country of 'free' speech and if that fake president gets another
four years to continue to ruin this country, it is very possible we
will no longer have free speech. When you are on the inside of a FEMA

Muslim/Communist as president and a fake one at that who still is
unable to prove citizenship, has a false ssn, is definately not a
Christian, and who lies for political
expediency. Obama supporters believe Obama is a genuine black American
and yet he will not allow anyone to look at his past which most likely
would reveal his Muslim religion, foreign citizenship, communist
mentors, and radical friends. If Obama were trying to get only a Secret

his past history, a historyhe has spent millions of dollars hiding from

I expect the ole skin game will continue with the 2012

not what and who is good for this country. Jesus could be running
against Obama and most black Americans will vote for Obama. That is why
it is called the skin game. I do not view this fake president in terms
of color, but only in terms of political ideologies...and this fake has
done an excellent job creating class warfare, racial division,
religious supression, urinating every day on the Constitution,
promoting communism, and lying with every breath. Go on nice white

posted February 14, 2012 Re: you see what you want to see and
you hear what you want to hear - mms and jet girls basketball game
While I find Coach Marchant's apology interesting, I think there are
other issues that still need to be addressed.
To the person who posted saying that it was strange no one from
Merriwether had complained until now. You should get your facts
straight. I am a parent of an MMS player and several of us DID go
straight to Dr. Tobin that night to express our displeasure at the
actions of Coach Marchant. We didn't just run to our computers to
say what we thought we heard. I, with several other parents, was
sitting directly behind the MMS bench and heard full well what was said
and it was not to just get physical. I also agree with another
person's post - Coach Fulmer did look embarrassed and shocked at what
she was hearing. Do I condone the actions of the injured player
and her parent? No, I do not. That is another issue that should
be dealt with - although the bullying words of Coach Marchant started
that situation in motion. But I sure as heck do not condone the
words of Coach Marchant- and this wasn't the first time, as he put it,
his emotions got out of hand.
I know of two other parents, other than myself, who went to Coach
Fulmer about Mr. Marchant losing his temper in practices and on the
sidelines. When we asked what she could do to calm things down,
she stated that it would put her in a very sticky, no-win situation as
Mr. Marchant was ultimately her superior at work. She said "It'll
be ok. He means well." Well, Coach Fulmer, it didn't turn out ok,
did it? And what I truly do not understand is how she could go on
giving her time, and trying to protect him, after having to have heard
all of the rumors and talk around the Johnston/Edgefield/Merriwether
communities about her not being good enough to coach his child and his
close friends child. She'd been good enough for five years
straight, but not this year? How embarrassing that must have
been. It embarrassed me FOR her when parents at the first JET game at
JET were discussing it in the stands.
When our teams traveled to Newberry on report card night in January,
Mr. Marchant did not travel with the team as his obligations were at
MES, which is as it should have been. The environment in Newberry
was tense, the girls game was just as physical and the officiating was
terrible - in Newberry's favor. Coach Fulmer encouraged her team
to keep playing what I heard (and yes I was sitting two rows behind the
players so I just didn't hear what I wanted to hear) as "Mustang
Basketball - character and class Ladies, character and class. We
will NOT stoop to their level. Emotions under control." She
high fived each one of the players and sent them back out onto the
floor. One of her dominate players was even sat for a bit due to
them losing their temper. Coach Fulmer led the girls back from a
7 point deficit to win by 3 points - and never once said one word to an
official other than calling timeouts. Coach Marchant traveled
alone with the team to Gilbert on Monday, February 6th. The
officiating was terrible - and so was Coach Marchant's temper -
resulting in technical fouls and the team losing a 6 point lead to lose
by 1. There was a never a game with him on the sidelines that he
did yell at or chastise the officiating.
So, to those who have said that isn't it funny that only the losers of
that game are complaining - again, get your facts straight because the
winners of that game are complaining and have complained before.
No one is saying what the JET injured player did during the boys game
was right. But before you go asking what they are teaching the
kids at JET, maybe you should start acting what Coach Marchant is
teaching all kids. And the answer will not be to simply stand up
for yourselves - it goes far beyond that and hinges on bullying.
And maybe parents who have been on the receiving end of one of his
yelling tirades outside of sports should also be asked. web
posted February 14, 2012 I have to agree with the posts about the
disappointments with the school district in Edgefield. Who is in
charge? Who is looking out for the teachers that are there working day
in and day out for my child and other children? From what I
see at Parker Elementary, none of the teachers and lots of the parents
are not happy and we all know why. It's really sad to see such a
great school with great teachers and great students just go straight
down the tubes. My child even says that the principal doesn't speak to
him. He's not one of the smart ones. Guess that explains it. Parker
used to be a place that we all felt welcomed. No more. And all you have
to do is walk the halls and see the stress on the teachers. It is sad
that the district let a school that was really great to get really
ruined. Don't send your children to Parker. And JET is no better but
we've known that for a long time. web

Development is not always a good thing. Most of the residents in
this area moved to this area to avoid the congestion that exists in
Columbia County. Proposing new development will destroy the rural
atmosphere that brought most of us here. Every developer starts out
proposing high end development, then once the reality sets in that
there isn't high end buyers in the market, the development is scaled
back to mid to low level development or worse, apartment complexes. Who
are going to buy these homes? Nobody, thats who. The writer
states that Southern Edgefield County has grown by 50% in the last ten
years, isn't that enough?
Editor's note: I
agree that everyone, well almost everyone, enjoys the country setting
that Merriwether is known for, making it an attractive place to live.
As to a development being a bad thing, that is a two-edged sword. Done
right it is a positive. To say otherwise would be to say Currytown
Station, Whispering Woods, Cannon Mill, River Hills, and other similar
developments have done their part to "destroy" the rural setting. The
development takes place on a 400 acre tract +/- and it should not
upset the surrounding settings.
And how are you going to refuse to allow a developer from using the
property in the only way the property in the Residential Zoned area can
be used?
Scare tactics claiming "apartments" may be moving in is ludicrous. The
zoning forced on Merriwether is the strictest in the county - Single
family dwelling only.
I have also received emails stating 2,000 homes (including the above
poster). That is incorrect. The trunk line is being built to be able to
handle around 2,000 homes. That allows the line to be extended if the
future without having upgrade the lower infrastructure. It's called
planning ahead.
I know, it's a new concept for Edgefield County to think ahead, but
there it is. web
posted February 13, 2012 Well here's a very simple plan that can
save the school district thousands and thousands and thousands of
dollars. Listen up tax payers. It's really a simple solution. We must
have tons of money if we are still paying Crenshaw - and Tobin - and
Pride Academy - and Peach Salaries. Dismiss Tobin. Who
needs his suggestions? Come on. Bring back David Mathis
(Check the AYP for his district in Saluda County). Bring
back Dianne Murrel and Gene Huiett. This trio could get the district
straight in a few months - Yes, they could and we all know it. They
were great principals - and that's the definition of a great leader. If
you can motivate, manage, and encourage students, teachers, and
parents, then you are a successful LEADER. How many LEADERS do we
have running our schools? Marchant, Holmes, Clark, Hampton,
Lee????? Come on. We've never been in such a complete mess and
we've never had teachers so down. Who will be held accountable
now? The trio of successful former leaders would know that the
key to success is for teachers and parents that feel respected -
Perhaps the school board needs to see if teachers and parents are
pleased with their school system. It's a simple and very cost effective
solution. Now let's see how many tax payer dollars are spent on finding
a new superintendent..... Mr. Editor please stay on this and thank you
for this forum.
w Editor, I
stand by my post yesterday. I respect your right to an opinion of Mr.
Freeman. I assure you I do not make such judgments casually and must
assume there are genuine reasons for yours. However, some things about
many people, such as character and integrity, are not always plainly
apparent, or revealed, to all people. Next time I bump into you
in Edgefield we can chat if you like about a few things in private,
including our opinions of public servants, etc... I will not do it
here.
Additionally, let’s not get public service confused with character, one
can easily exist without the other. Your apparent opinion of Mr. Dorn
surely being one example. I understand this was not the primary point
of your statement but it seemed to be insinuated. You tell me if I am
wrong.
The prime point of my post, in particular the second paragraph, was the
positive direction the county is headed in with a few personnel
changes. I just happen to believe the change on the planning commission
may be another good one to go along with some of the others.
Editor's note: I am a firm believer in change being inevitable,
however; progress is not. I do believe if the full planning commission
had been present at the meeting the vote would have gone differently,
and for a very good reason. My main point was expressing my support for
Mr. Freeman when you insinuated unnamed negative things about his
"character and integrity" that I did not think were justified.

for Oklahoma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oklahoma is the only state that Obama did not carry one county in the
last election...
While everyone is focusing on Arizona 's new law, look what Oklahoma
has been doing!!!! CITIZEN WOODMAN
An update from Oklahoma:
Oklahoma law passed, 37 to 9, had a few liberals in the mix, an
amendment to place the Ten Commandments on the front entrance to the
state capitol. The feds in D.C., along with the ACLU, said it would be
a mistake. Hey this is a conservative state, based on Christian
values...! HB 1330
Guess what.......... Oklahoma did it anyway.
Oklahoma recently passed a law in the state to incarcerate all illegal
immigrants, and ship them back to where they came from unless they want
to get a green card and become an American citizen. They all scattered.
HB 1804. Hope we didn't send any of them to your
state. This was against the advice of the Federal Government, and
the ACLU, they said it would be a mistake.
Guess what.......... Oklahoma did it anyway.
Recently we passed a law to include DNA samples from any and all
illegals to the Oklahoma database, for criminal investigative purposes.
Pelosi said it was unconstitutional SB 1102
Guess what......... Oklahoma did it anyway.
Several weeks ago, we passed a law, declaring Oklahoma as a Sovereign
state, not under the Federal Government directives. Joining Texas,
Montana, and Utah as the only states to do so. More states are likely
to follow: Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee,
Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, West Virginia, Mississippi and
Florida. Save your confederate money, it appears the South is
about to rise up once again. HJR 1003
The federal Government has made bold steps to take away our guns.
Oklahoma, a week ago, passed a law confirming people in this state have
the right to bear arms and transport them in their vehicles. I'm
sure that was a set back for the criminals. The Liberals didn't
like it -- But ....
Guess what........... Oklahoma did it anyway.
Just this month, the state has voted and passed a law that ALL drivers
license exams will be printed in English, and only English, and no
other language. They have been called racist for doing this, but
the fact is that ALL of the road signs are in English only. If
you want to drive in Oklahoma, you must read and write English.
Really simple.
By the way, the Liberals don't like any of this either.
Guess what...who cares... Oklahoma is doing it anyway.
w For those of
you who have posted about the middle school game the other night, you
are right. I should have never said what I said and let my
emotions get the better of me. It was a hard fought game that
should have gone without incident. I have coached for 18 years
now (mostly in high school) and know better. The two communities
deserve better and the JET coach and girls deserve better for
sure. I have already sent my apologies to both schools and ask
for forgiveness from those who have been affected.
I never intended to hurt anyone and never will. That is not who I
am nor [do I] want MMS to bear any blame for what I said that night.

and Edgefield Co. Water. Along with paying property taxes to both. How
will this effect the rest of Gregory Lake Rd? Will they also be paying
both? How will you propose it to them? Or will you try to shove it down
their throats like the recyling fee you all charge Oak Creek homeowners
,still have not figured that out since North Augusta handles their
sanitation .According to the wonderful map you posted this line is
headed straight to the City of North Augusta right through the entrance
of Oak Creek down to Martintown Rd. When will you let North Augusta
know you need to tap in their sewer line? Their officials seem to be in
dark on this landmark goal. If this area of Gregory Lake Rd. becomes
city limits ,what will your Developer do about mass grading
and disturbing soil that North Augusta now frowns on? Before you go
slapping each other on back and celebrating your victory how about let
your tax payers and their mortgage companys know who to send their new
payments to. When has a well known Developer from Columbia Co. Georgia
ever been so concerned about the advancement of Edgefield Co? Does he
live here? Please specify what a "High End" house is. If there are
going to be two thousand high end houses there, who will qualify for
one?People cannot pay for the houses they got now what will they do
with a "High End" house?
Editor's note: My dear misinformed reader. Please
read
the
articles
again to get the
facts, not the hyperbole included in your post. The area wants the
sewer from the county because they do not want to be suckers like those
in Oak Creek who got suckered in to annexing into the city and paying
double taxes.
There is a standing agreement between the county and the city to make
use of the sewer lines, there will be no double payments. Furthermore,
by the county installing the lines it will allow the people buying
houses in the area to not get suckered in like the Oak Creek
subdivision did.
As for garbage pick up: Those in Oak Creek do pay the city to pick up
their garbage, just like residents in Edgefield, Johnston and Trenton
do, and they too pay the disposal fee to the county. Aiken County also
has a disposal fee. Those in Oak Creek have skated from paying the fee
in either county for many years, basically getting off scott free for
the service. If they did not pay the fee to Edgefield County they would
have to pay a higher fee in Aiken County and maybe even back fees.
Those who love being part of Merriwether are well pleased. I suppose
there are a few who got suckered into North Augusta now have buyer's
remorse and want to compare their sorry situation to the progress being
made by Edgefield County. web

he was very unprofessional. Maybe he has to much time on his hands,
considering he has two assistant principals, that lead him to believe
he can coach. I wonder if he can keep his composure when he deals with
his staff? While I'm at it, considering the tight money concerns the
school district has, how can 2 Assistant Principals be justified at an
elementary school? web

this list. Then they can then pick a reason from this "TOP 12"..
1. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on
a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same
gallon of gas at 15% isn't.
2. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a
better job of spending the money I earn than I would.
3. I voted Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as
nobody is offended by it.
4. I voted Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a

5. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell
us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will
melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.
6. I voted Democrat because I'm not concerned about millions of
babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.
7. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right
to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits, and we
should take away the social security from those who paid into it.
8. I voted Democrat because I believe that businesses should not
be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and
give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the
Democrats see fit.
9. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to
rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who
would never get their agendas past the voters.
10.. I voted Democrat because I think that it's better to pay
billions to people who hate us for their oil, but not drill our own
because it might upset some endangered beetle, gopher or fish.
11. I voted Democrat because while we live in the greatest, most
wonderful country in the world, I was promised "HOPE AND CHANGE".
12. I voted Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my

posted February 10, 2012 Re: MMS / JET girls basketball game
Wow isn't even the word to describe what transpired at the Merriwether
Middle and JET Middle girls basketball game. The principle from
the elementary school who has taken over coaching those girls was rude
and very unprofessional by not only continually yelling at the refs,
but for his angry outburst telling the MMS girls to "knock them on the
floor!" The Merriwether girls were ahead, so there is no excuse
of him just meaning to tell his girls to foul - there is a big
difference in a strategy of using fouls to your advantage and telling
someone to put the other players on the ground. I think even the
refs were shocked at his childish fit! What is sad is this wasn't
his only little tirade this season.
My family felt for the lady coach standing behind him (Coach Fulmer) as
she looked shocked, seemingly torn between just walking away or staying
with her team, shaking her head no. When the JET player did get
hurt, the principal/coach was actually smiling as his team came off the
court while Coach Fulmer immediately stepped out onto the court to ask
Coach Edwards (JET coach) if she needed ice - when Coach Edwards said
yes, Coach Fulmer got the ice herself and personally carried it to the
injured player. I agree with the post that questioned how
the young students from the elementary school in the crowd must feel
hearing their principal condoning, or actually I guess we should say
ENCOURAGING, intentionally trying to hurt someone. My
grandmother had a word for that - shameful.
I don't know the lady coach personally, but I do know several families
in my church who have had girls that played for her - "class act" is
how they described her. So I guess I have some questions
also. Why is a principle allowed to coach the team his daughter
plays on? Why is a principle even allowed to coach? There
was a big stink about Mrs. Cooks wanting her granddaughter placed on
this same team - so did this principal get to pick the initial team
that his daughter was going to be on? Mrs. Cooks had to issue a
public apology for her actions (getting away with a slap on the wrist,
I must add) - shouldn't he have to apologize for his actions on the
sidelines last night? Why wasn't Coach Fulmer no longer good
enough to lead the team? Why did the administration of
Merriwether Middle allow such a tirade to take place? The Interim
Superintendent was in attendance - what does he have to say about a
member of his staff yelling "knock them on the floor?" or does he
care?
I am sure all of this will be swept away in a week or so as everything
else is. Please, Mr. Editor, give us some answers. Please
investigate. Please Edgefield County BOE, stand-up for the
children of this county and at least hold him responsible for his
actions. web

posted February 10, 2012 MMS and Jet game. What a
disappointment. To have a principle react the way the principle
of MES reacted is a shame. Sportsmanship holds the strongest
values in sports. It holds more value than strength, endurance or any
other physical attribute that comes with sports. Sportsmanship is
having the mental power to stay composed in a situation that could lead
to a conflict. Sportsmanship is being able to endure a loss and not
retaliate against the other team or act out in a way that would cause
shame to your team!!! Holding sportsmanship above all other
values that come with sports is important and key to maintaining a
respectable image in the world of sports especially if you are dealing
with young impressionable kids like teenagers in the 7th and 8th
grade. Shame on you Marchant for not taking this opportunity to
teach these teenagers to take the high road and do what’s right.
Do you expect the kids at your school to cheat to get better
grades and make your school look better than other schools to
“win”. Telling these teenagers to hit, knock down or hurt the
other team is WRONG! I don’t care what the other coach was
doing! You were wrong! Two wrongs don’t make a right and
never will. I’m so disappointed and what a bad name these two
nice schools are getting. Mr. Huiett would have never told any
student in a sports game or any other situation to do such a thing!!!!

I guess you can pick and choice what you hear and see then run to
Wandering Minds and make it out to be something it wasn’t? The
Referee’s let the game get out of hand. The Referee’s set the stage
for the end of the game. When the Jet “girl’s” started getting physical
the referee’s let it go. What I heard (sitting near the
“administrator”) from the MMS bench was a question to the referee’s.
“Is this how you’re going to allow them to play?” “Then we can play
that way too?” NO answer was given from the referee’s. The
“administrator” told the MMS girls they would have to play physical, I
never heard anyone say to go out and hurt anyone. As for the girl
getting knocked down and hitting her head, again you can pick and
choice what you saw and what you think. What happened, a Jet player and
a MMS player ran into one another. The Jet player fell down and yes she
hit her head on the floor. Was it on purpose? NO!
But with everything you stated in your post you may have forgotten what
the JET PLAYER did after the game? Did the JET COACH stop it? NO!

posted February 9, 2012 Tonight was the last game of the
Merriwether Middle / JET Middle schools basketball seasons with the
game being played at the Merriwether gym. A free spaghetti dinner
was offered for anyone who had attended the games...but never have I
been more ashamed to say that I am from Merriwether.
First, let me say that I have attended many Merriwether basketball
games (including the JET games) and have never seen a hint of
unprofessionalism or unsportsmanlike conduct shown by the female girl's
coach or either of the boy's coaches. However, tonight, the
adminstrator who has been allowed to step in and coach the girl's team
(I guess the female coach who was already in place there just wasn't
good enough to coach his or his friend's child?) was the biggest
example of poor sportsmanship I have ever witnessed. Mad because
the officials were allowing the game to get physical, the male
administrator called a time-out, had the players sit on the bench, and
proceeded to yell at them "I want you to put them on the floor!
Do you hear me?! I want them knocked on the floor! If
that's the way the refs are going to allow this to be played, you
knock'em down!" Excuse me??? The female coach had a total
look of horror on her face and kept shaking her head behind him as if
to tell the girls to calm down. The JET girls, their coach, and
anyone who can halfway hear now know that a coach is actually giving
his team permission to hurt someone. A JET player does get
knocked on the floor, bumping her head in the process. The male
administrator never even has a hint of concern on his face yet the
female coach rushes around to get the child ice.
Merriwether / JET games are always going to be physical and hard fought
to the end. That's what makes a rivalry. How can the
admistration at Merriwether Middle School stand behind a coach, an
ADULT, an administrator , who encourages kids to hurt other kids?
What does the same administrator/coach do to children at his school who
encourage others to be bullies? He represents my community, my
schools, and I am ashamed.
Please tell me...why was the female coach "demoted" this season and
"put on the bench"?...she has always seemed to be the type of role
model our children need...not someone who seems to encourage winning at
all cost...even if it means hurting someone.
Editor's note: The second coach is not from MMS, he is from MES. The
principal for MMS is Bobby Turner and he does not coach on the court.
He simply watches and cheers for his school in the bleachers. web

reconnection, which I promptly did. I asked at the office
if a courtesy call could not be made alerting someone of a cutoff of
their water, especially a situation where never a payment had even been

office staff did not have time to do this, though I observed three

an out-cry from numerous Edgefield County Water and Sewer Authority
customers over their excessive current water bill. When question or
challenged on the issue the answer has always that you either have a
leak or that you are using more water than you realize.
Let me tell you the real reason for the high bills. The employees that
are supposed to be reading the meters each month aren't!!!!!!!!! They
have been guesstimating each persons use and when some at the
ECW&SA questioned why they were pumping more water than they are
billing for then someone went out and read the meters.
I know this to be a fact because I monitor our meter each month and
know that it had not been read all year until January 25, 2012 when it
showed that we had used 9,000 gallons of water in one month. Guess
what, I had shut off the water and drained our water lines in early
December, 2011 until our facility was used again on January 21st. I
turned the water on on January 20th and shut it back off on January
22nd to safeguard form our lines freezing our having a leak. So when
the meter was read on the 25th there had only been usage for 3 days.
That comes out to be 3,000 gallons of water used a day. When I got our
bill and went and checked the meter and saw where it had been read and
the reading was correct. When I shut off the water in December I had to
scrape the dirt of the meter cover to open it up and was then had to
uncover the meter and shut-off valve before I could shut it off. I took
a long time for all this debris and dirt to build up in the meter box,
so this is how I know the meter had not been read in a while. With the
state of Edgefield Counties economy, county employees should not be
getting paid for not doing their jobs and someone should be looking at
the supervisors of these employees because if the lower rung of the
employee ladder are not doing their jobs then what is the rest of the
ladder doing?????????????
I feel that this is an issue that needs to be investigated and proper
action taken where needed!!!!!!!!! web

Mrs. Blackwell is vice chair of county council and we all know she's
your wife. So stop writing a romance novel for her and think back to
your journalism classes. You did take journalism ethics, right?
The way it's been mentioned in reports and "Editor's notes", people
seem to be led to believe that Mrs Blackwell is creating money from
thin air. Not so. Although the patrol car issue did not raise taxes, it
did put taxpayers back THREE QUARTERS OF A MILLION DOLLARS in the hole.
I agree it had to be done and this was the right way, it just seems to
never get mentioned. Ethical? Maybe, if there weren't a familial
relationship.
Oh, and I got a big kick out of another WM post - "How refreshing it is
to see Merriwether getting something back for all the taxes we pay. We
have been ignored for years and now we are getting sewer". You poor
fool. You are still going to pay the same tax rate as everyone else,
but if you want that precious sewer you're going to pay an additional
$800 for it. Not a bad deal, but in no way is it getting something back
for all those hard-earned sawbucks you already send in taxes.
And who wrote Mrs. Butler's press release? A former teacher? Gasp!
Sounds like it came from a fifth grader. And I can't find "Trenton
Precinct, District Four" anywhere on the new maps, technically.
Speaking of, congrats to the county for getting their districting map
through Obama's and Dorn's'' DOJ. I assume Mrs. B handled all that
herself, too? Just kidding.
I write this to remind us that we were recently the minority "shining
the light." Now that we are driving, let's not let that light tint to
rose. Seems like there's even more backroom deals now than ever before.
Someone's unelected hand is in all of this. We'll get to that later.
Editor's note: The bond issue for emergency vehicles was a re-issue of
bond that were about to be paid off so it did not raise taxes (the line
item is already there) and it was explained many times. The orginal
bond issue was 10 years, this one will end in four, and it was
Blackwell's idea - giving credit is not unethical. On the sewer
project, I suppose you think it should be free to tap on?
I have no idea who wrote Mrs. Butler's announcement.
And don't worry, I'll keep the light on for you. web

Coincidentally, Tobe Holmes resides in Charlotte NC and is active in
several other community and economic development projects.
I would love to have a bike trail, walking path, rail trail system, etc
in our county. But...we as the general public MUST educate ourselves as
to the ICLEI and Agenda 21's technique at infiltrating the USA very
very slowly. Let's make sure we are in no way affiliated with this
branch of The United Nations when being enticed with federal grants or

posted February 2, 2012 The issue of
more deputies being on the road is much like the issue of updated
patrol cars and many other things that are needed for the public good.
It is not the fact that these things aren’t needed, it is that funds
that can be used for these things are wasted elsewhere. You can’t just
keep taxing everyone more and not be held accountable for existing
waste of tax dollars. It has to stop somewhere. Some public safety
groups have accumulated an arsenal of equipment that is surely nice to
have – but is it really needed? Not singling these guys out because
there is much waste in most government groups but there are likely some
hard lessons coming for all of us about what is necessary versus what
we want.
Editor's note:
The replacement of patrol vehicles did not cost the taxpayers any tax
increase. That is evident in the tax bills that went out for last year.
Not only that, but additional cars will be replaced this year and again
next year, still with no tax increase under the plan designed by County
Council Vice-chair Genia Blackwell last year. Adding more deputies may
require a small tax increase if it cannot be offset elsewhere (and the
current county council and administration is good at doing that), but
that is something that will have to be brought up during the 2012-2013
budget process. At this time, to my knowledge, there is no discussion
within the county council to add additional deputies.

officers per shift. Both Aiken and North Augusta have 8 plus officers
per shift. I understand population matters, but how in the world can
our officers cover this County which is around 500 square miles with
three and have adequate backup? Im absolutely sick to know our officers
alot of the time don't have a second officer or never get one because
the other two are on another call. I found out our officer get stuck
doing other things besides answering calls and being available to help
one another. I found that our officers also are responsible for medical
transports and sitting with prisoners for hours when admitted. How do
three officers do this? I really want our officers to have a fair
chance going home to their families while protecting ours....
Editor's note: There is no question that more deputies are needed. The
question is if the taxpayers are willing to raise their taxes by $20 or
$30 a year to provide Sheriff Dobey with the needed manpower to cover
the county. That is not on the table for discussion by the county

For those of you who only know what FOX NEWS tells you, Jasper county

Really big question here. Where is our Congressman Jeff
Duncan? Jeff who? Hadn't seen or heard from him since
November 2010. Will probably next hear from him in November
2012. A recent press release of his dated 01/23 talked about how
he had "Visited throughout the district this past week..." including a

"Visited throughout the district." A month or two ago, I reported
about Jeffy visiting the upper part of the district and ignoring us
back in september. He hit Seneca, Anderson, Laurens, and
Greenwood. Didn't hit us, did he? January, same thing.
Now this is not a partisan issue with No-Show Jeff. I imagine
about 80% of what a Congressman does has nothing to do with political

the primary. Shoot, I'll even give you a pass on Birther
comments. Naw, too much fun!!!
Editor's note: I wonder how comments about Obama voters being called
"knuckle-draggers" would be treated by the "main stream media". Somehow
I think it would be called racist. But you are talking about white
Republicans, so, it is overlooked. Nice double standard on your part. web posted February 1, 2012 A Powerful
Force

There is a powerful force in American politics and, particularly, the
Repyblican Party. It's not an organized group, a registered union
or a structured political entity, but it's a demographic that
determines the outcome of every election.
