RE:  For all those fussing about the term "White Hispanic" maybe you should do some research on your computer.  You will find that for all (government, at least) purposes  Hispanic & Latino are classified as "ethnicity" not as a race.  Race is identified as White, Black, American Indian, Pacific Islander, etc., thus we do have White Hispanic, Black Hispanic, etc. depending on which race the individual most closely identifies with. Wikipedia has quite a few articles on this subject, but you can search for race in America and take your choice.

OK then, by your post that would mean there is no African-American.  That term would have to just be black.  Can't have it both ways or just what and when it suits.
web posted March 31, 2012

To the person who complained about those of us who object to the term "white Hispanic"... all I can say is that anyone with any common sense knows why that term is being used. They want this person, this Hispanic person, to represent whites in this shooting. I really don't care if it is an ethnic term or not. The danger in all of this is that the sides are getting incited for violence. This is not a healthy way to handle this sad situation in FL. Whether it was a Hispanic person, a white person etc. is not the point. Let the legal system do its job.  Isn't it odd how all these folks are speaking out and none of them were eye witnesses? Could this be another Duke La Crosse Case? I wonder how many people actually know how that case turned out. There were so many people tried and convicted before the facts came out, that the only memory for some folks is that the players were the guilty ones. In truth they were found innocent. I wonder how many folks in Durham still hold grudges on that one.

Some of us are smart enough to see what is going on here. This is one of those crisis situations that this administration wants to use for their benefit.  No one I know had heard of a "white Hispanic" until this all came out in the last week or so. Again, it is irrelevant whether it is an ethnic, racial or just stupid term. It incites violence, anger and racial tension. The case in FL is not nearly as "awful" if it was a Hispanic that shot a black teenager. The left doesn't want to blame a Hispanic (no one should be blamed, tried or convicted yet anyway )because that would open a whole new conversation for the liberals. Gee, they could lose the Hispanic votes.  It is much more newsworthy and emotional, if it is a white that shot a black teenager. Thus we have a "white Hispanic". Do you get it now?  The key part of that description is "white".

I noticed the city of Edgefield remove the large slide from the park recently. Many older children (7-12) I know are complaining because it was one of the few things there for them. Does anyone know why they removed it and if they are planning on replacing it with something else?

Editor's note: I know a child fell off the slide recently and required medical attention. I have no idea if this contributed to the removal of the slide.

Re: Fox Creek SC Annual School Report Card

Here it is, read it yourself.  You can also compare NA and ST.

Re: Spike Lee Settles With Elderly Couple After Retweeting Their Address As That Of Trayvon Martin Shooter George Zimmerman

As well he should have been concerned and ashamed.  How dare anyone tweet someones address like that?  Had it been the right Zimmerman... how dare they do it?  We have a justice system in this country.  Tweeting to 250,000 people to feel free to reach out and touch Zimmerman is ludicrous!

Someone in Spike Lees position should have had better sense.  Shows he is nothing more than a moron with  money.

This has turned out ok ................so far!  However it could have turned out to be much worse.  Even fatal for these elderly people.

Good luck to Greg Anderson.  I think he will do fine.  He is just going to have some backbone and clean up the mess.  We'll see what he has shortly.  As for him not being qualified-he sure is.  Just because he doesn't have a fancy degree in education, yadda, yadda, yadda, he still can be a good leader.  Look at most of your successful business people or leaders, they have a four year degree, and some have advanced degrees, but most of the time it is in a field absolutely irrelevant to what they became successful in.  One of the US Army's most decorated soldiers, Col. David Hackworth, couldn't read a map, but as good leaders do, they surround themselves with people that can get the job done.

Greg just needs to select good people to put around him, those that are in fact doing it for the children, and get rid of the deadwood.

He has my support, and I will do whatever to help him make some sorely needed changes.  Our education system is in total disarray and needs fixing-just like our country.  At the local level-this can be a good start!

Editor's note: I can assure you that Greg Anderson will be the most assessable Superintendent since Dr. Sharon Keesley left the position. He honestly wants to hear from parents, students, teahcers, administrators and tax payers on issues in the district. His honesty will be a welcome change. No disrespect to Dr. Tobin, who has done a great job in the interim since November.

My nephew is in the 8th grade and goes to North Augusta Middle School. He wants to go to Foxcreek High next year but his parents are a little concerned about the schools accreditation. According to what they have found Foxcreek High is not accredited according to the SC Annual School Report Card. Is this true? Also they are telling him that he will have to sit out of sports next year. Is this also correct? He said his friend who plays on the baseball team this year and went to NAMS last year is playing and has not had to sit out. Can this be done? They want to make the best choice for their child and I am not sure that Foxcreek is the answer.

Editor's note: It is High School Sports League requirements that if a student transfers to another school that they have to sit out one season. That is why Fox Creek had to void their winning football season recently because they were not following the rules. As for the school itself, I would check with the Edgefield County School District on accreditation and other records.

Thank you for viewing my post fairly as to the events leading up to the selection of Mr. Anderson.  I do agree with you as to the county government matters.  Ms. Bryant was obviously not qualified - now demoted - check!.  Mr. Brown, not a good fit - gone - check!  Replaced by someone qualified who has now trained our current administrator who seems to be quite capable - check!  Those are all good things.  Qualifications do matter.

I very sincerely hope Mr. Anderson can get up to speed on all things education to help this district get out of the funk it is in. If he needs to clean house top to bottom to do that, I support that.   Teacher morale is LOW to say the least. I hate the idea of my children going to school each day and sitting in classes with even one teacher, let alone three or four, who wishes they were somewhere else everyday.

So teachers, Crenshaw is gone.  Let's all look at that as the MOST positive thing that has happened in a long time.  Get to work and be happy with the hopes that real changes are coming for you.  If you are miserable, maybe its time for you to move on and make way for someone who wants to be in that classroom each day helping improve the education of each child.  Quit worrying about TAP.  It is what it is and when it's gone it's gone.

I will be the first to admit that when Greg Anderson ran for the State Senate he did not get my vote. The reason being I did not feel he was the most qualified person for that position. Saying that, I can’t think of another person I would rather see take the helm of our school system then Greg. I know Greg is sincere about trying to make ours the best school system possible and will work diligently to that end. I hope the people will give Greg the benefit of the doubt and give him the opportunity to do the job. It’s is easy to scream, “The Good Ole Boy System” then sit back and point a critical finger at every move made. Greg is willing to step up and try and be a part of the solution rather than being the nay sayer. Let us all give Greg our support to do the job he has been hired to do then, after his 3 years are complete, make the judgment on how well he preformed. I for one am optimistic and excited at the prospect of the hire the School Board made and look forward to having a school system we can all be proud of.
web posted March 29, 2012

What is wrong with our school board? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that when you hire someone who does not have the specific qualifications for a specific job that you should not hire them!!! What qualifications did Mr. Anderson possess that Mr. Lawrence did not? I do agree that when Mr. Anderson spoke to the board members, it was already decided that he would be the NEW Superintendant. It was a waste of Mr. Lawrence's time to even be interviewed. And guess what, we will have to do this all over AGAIN in 3 years!!!

As far as doing something for Dr. Crenshaw, we have already done way too much for her seeing as she is still being PAID!!!!!
web posted March 29, 2012

I just read the story about The Johnston Sports Bar and I noticed that it said the officers were there on Sunday morning around 2 am. In Edgefield County bars are supposed to close no later than midnight on Saturday night and South Carolina law says all patrons are supposed to be gone within I believe 30 minutes. This is just another example of Alex Hamilton doing what he wants because he knows that nothing is going to be done about it. He has a history of doing things in this county and getting away with it, for instance the Flour Mill, he put an addition on the back of the bar and built a fireplace at the bar with no permit, he has a shipping container at his shop next to the grocery store that he has a converted into an illegal apartment (again without a permit) and rents it out and the list goes on and on. Until he actually gets what he deserves he will continue to do as he pleases. It is a known fact that there is underage drinking going on regularly at this bar, there has been numerous calls to the Sheriffs Dept. for fights, people being run over in the parking lot and noise complaints, there is gambling going on daily with sports and on the pool tables, and the occasional card game and nothing gets done. I guess once again it comes back to the good ole boy system.

Editor's note: The timeline was actually taking place early Saturday morning, not Sunday morning, and the report has been corrected to reflect the correction.

ignorant voting base fired up to make this 2012 election one of racial injustice and maybe start race

There will be someone that believes they can collect this bounty and someone is going to be a victim of their terrorist ways.

Editor's note: The Obama Justice Department (Eric Holder) does not look at blacks involved in terrorist acts.So what if they want to put an illegal bounty on an innocent white man's head and then a tweet with a wrong address to run a 70-year-old couple from their home into hiding. web posted March 28, 2012

So I guess I called it right.  The night Mr. Anderson announced his intent to apply for Superintendent I wrote that he would indeed be chosen as the next superintendent.  I was also blasted for it because he is such a "nice guy".

Can we at least now agree that the good ole boy system is in full effect in the Edgefield County School District?

Let me point out a few facts, in case the good people of Edgefield County have forgotten.

1) Mr. Anderson was allowed to read a six page "pick me" letter in front of the full board and the public at a regularly scheduled school board meeting.  Were any other candidates given the same opportunity?

2) The school board changed and changed and changed the memo that was used to announce the position.  It was not until the third time that it was changed that Mr. Anderson became qualified for the position.  That was also the change after the school board meeting where Mr. Herrin told Mr. Tobin that what was currently in public was not what the board wanted.  The board haggled for 10 minutes on sentence structure and the wording.  The next day, the memo was released again and all mention of needing to be certified and needing a background in educational administration qualifications were removed.  In case some don't know, Mr. Anderson has no background in education.  He is certainly not trained in educational administration.  He is also not a certified Superintendent.  His competition was imminently more qualified in that regard.

3) After the complete failure of Dr. Crenshaw, you would think the board would want to take their time and perform a thorough search for her replacement.  Instead, they advertised for two weeks, interviewed in a day and made their decision the next day.

4) Let's also not forget that this "search" was at the cost of the taxpayers to the tune of about a half year's salary for a teacher.  And we will have to pay that much or more three years from now when he says he will step down.

5) Some will say Mr. Anderson has been to all the board meetings for umpteen years so that makes him qualified.  Well guess what, so has Sallie Cooks.  Would we want to consider her for the position based on that logic?

With all that said, I wish Mr. Anderson much luck in his new position.  I wish I could say he has big shoes to fill, but I can't.  Any mediocre performance on his part will be worlds better, I hope, than Dr. Crenshaw.  We will be watching that is for sure.

Editor's note: You make several valid points. I remember when the new majority on the county council started replacing members of commissions and boards and then fired Administrator Alton Brown out of the blue...they were questioned if they new what they were doing. Then they hired Roger LeDuc and people wondered if they knew what they were doing. And look where we are now, major progress being made in the last 16 months. Of course, they also planned and mentored Lynn Strom to take over as the Administrator (would that be "good old Gal" politics?).

The change was to stop doing what was always done, which got us nowhere.

Just as with the county council taking control of county government with a plan to move forward, there is a plan to regain control of our school system. I fully support Greg Anderson as being the person who can make that happen, and he is uniquely qualified to do so in my opinion.
His competition was imminently qualified in his own right. Let's hope he takes over in three years.

Ref."Trayvon Martin is our Martin Luther King".
Another stupid statement from someone who doesn't read or can't read, and has no clue about
the facts. I don't expect most of the black race in America to understand what is really happening
in Fla, as the racial pot is stirred and boiled to create some sort of race war advantage for this
racist president and his racist administration. We have a racist president who in reality is
America's first White-Arabic-Muslim-Communist fake president.

This fake president has helped stir the Martin shooting into a racial event. This fake president has
said NOTHING to calm down those who are ready to lynch the white-hispanic shooter.
There is no such label as a white-hispanic as reported by the racial inflaming media. Just a term being
used to further racially polarize the black and white races so Obama and his race baiters can get their
ignorant voting base fired up to make this 2012 election one of racial injustice and maybe start race
riots. Where is the outrage against the two blacks who set a white youth on fire recently as not reported
by the media? Where is the outrage about an old white lady who was recently killed and robbed by a black thug wearing a hoodie? Before you fools run around and cry racial injustice, get your facts
straight. Most crimes committed by blacks involve the wearing of a 'hoodie'. What do you idiots think when a person sees a group of young blacks wearing 'hoodies'?

When a white person, hispanic, oriental, or another black is killed by blacks...little or no news
is reported about these killings. However, when 'hot heads' think a white has killed a black......
there is the story to inflame all hot heads into killing each other so news ratings will be higher and this
fake president can get his African base stirred up. Bottom line....this fake president who during his 2008
campaign preached about bringing all Americans together has done the opposite and for the first time in
more than 50 years, this country is feeling the strains of racial hatred from both sides. This fake president
sure brought Hope and Change didn't he? Time to go check my ammo and weapons. Pray for me sisters.

To the individual with concerns about why the softball teams were only mentioned during the Dixie Youth ceremonies and not in attendance:

Thank you for the feedback. It's always good to have both positive comments and constructive criticism. It's another way to help us improve our activities and decisions for the league. However, we've always included the girls softball teams. This year, they decided to host their own Opening Ceremonies on Friday night, March 23rd (unfortunately it was cancelled due to rain).

We have a great working relationship with the leaders in the Dixie Girls Softball league and support them 100%. We made the decision to recognize the softball teams, because they are apart of the recreation league and we appreciate the support that we (as a county) receive from the sponsors.

Thank you again for your comments!

I beg the school district as an employee of ECSD to select King Laurence for Superintendent of ECSD. Mr. Laurence has gained experience working for a school district that runs more efficiently than ECSD.Picking the other candidate will just emphasize "good ole" boy politics as usual. The other candidate ran for office as a DemoncRat and cannot be trusted. The other candidate has questionable character issues and knows nothing about education or educational methodology. With the weak Asst Superintendent of Curriculum and Insturction now employed, the ECSD needs someone who can do the job of two; because she sure is not doing much at all actually spending more time with the Edgefield Theatre than working for the ECSD. I was wondering if you had heard anything about an arrest of three persons in Saluda that were supposed to be connected with over 200(?) break-ins in the Aiken, Edgefield, Greenwood and Saluda counties areas.  I heard a short blurb on AM580 from the Augusta news services middle last week but have seen/heard nothing since.

Apparently 2 of the arrested were the actual burglars and the other was a "fence" that was distributing the contraband to the Hispanic population in Saluda.  The items were predominantly firearms, flat screens and jewelry. (which fits most of the "kick in the door" crimes that were so rampant around here in the past year)

Editor's note: I know that some of the crimes did take place in Edgefield County but until the ECSO releases that information I cannot comment.

Trayvon Martin is OUR Martin Luther King. Shot down in cold blood because he was black by a WHITE MAN! Everybody needs to join the Justice of Trayvon movement and stop the race hater REPUBLICANS OUT!!!

Editor's note: Wow. Other than being an incomplete sentence, Obama has stepped in deep doo again and you are lapping it up.

First off, the man who shot poor little "Trayvon" was Hispanic, not white. Second, poor little Trayvon (who Obama said would be what his son would look like if he had a son - no racial indication there) is based on false or incomplete information on how "innocent" poor old "Trayvon" was involved in the events leading up to his death.

Police have an eye witness account of someone who made a 911 call recording the attack poor little "Trayvon" was perpetuating on his so-called "killer". And that he was the one who went for the gun.

This angel of the mainstream media for racial divide ignores his record, in addition to the facts of the incident showing the shooting was justified.

I would like the media to explain how the citizen, prior to the shooting, received a broken nose, injuries to the back of his head (as it was slammed on the pavement by the wonderful and angelic Trayvon during the attack) is some kind of a racist pitch man for the Obama 2012 re-election committee.

Join the "Justice for Trayvon" movement. Funny how his distraught mother has filed not one but two copyrights on his name.  She wants to get paid for any report on the incident. (That's the first thing I would think of if were my child…not).

Who, on God's green Earth, would try to "trademark" the death of their child? And why did these stories on the truth not make "national news"? Sorry, rhetorical question with a liberal media and a Marxist President. 10 to 1 odds this makes a mention in the expected Norman Dorn Show on April 3.

We do discipline when need arises. For all we do for these children we should not have to be called mean. If that parent and student has a problem speak to the specific teachers about it and try to clear it up for the child's well-being.

To the reader who thinks middle school teachers are mean:

I assure you that most of us love the children in our charge.  In many years of teaching, I have never had a parent come into my room to watch me teach or to be qualified to make such an assessment.  Have YOU sat in your child's classes, or are you simply going by what your child says?  Children sometimes interpret adherence to rules and the desire for them to be responsible and to learn something as "being mean."  Sometimes, when we expect courteous and socially acceptable behavior and then we correct a child who is not displaying it, we are accused of "being mean."  Also, the workload does change in middle school and giving homework is sometimes considered as "being mean."  We are preparing these children for high school, and they need to be ready.  If it takes being called "mean" to help a child succeed, then I guess I'll just be "mean."

Editor's note: No, the paper is just set to be shut down. You are not alone in your concern. That does not mean an independent paper cannot start up to fill that void. According to information obtained in private conversations with various sources, that very well may happen. From the discussions, I do not expect any announcement anytime soon.

Who in their right mind thought Dorn was the right candidate? Did any one of his voters have a conversation with him? Why on earth would Edgefield county send this man anywhere to represent our county? His vocabulary came straight from 1889 along with his grandparents house. Even if he was given the book he was referring to in the video, I seriously doubt he could read it. He could atleast pretend to be intelligent and not speak so lazy and relaxed. I hope his voters have the opportunity to see this video. It really is sad and embarrassing. Seems like he feels the need to support Ms. Bryant, since he also is not qualified for his position and has no clue as to what he is doing. I know discrimination still exists and affects people daily, but this is no reason to vote for certain people if they truely aren't qualified for the job. Seems to me we have worked hard to overcome days past, but when I heard him talk on that video it brought to mind movies of them days. Yesah it did.

I have met both candidates.  During a brief conversation it is tough to really know who might do best for the district.  But I did get a feeling that Terrance Culbreath will give it a more honest and unbiased effort.

I hear that the "angry one" is pushing pretty hard for the other man.  That in itself makes me cautious.  The folks sure don't need another lip poked out.  We need an independent person.  One that can think for himself and act for himself.  I feel that Terrance can be and will be that person.

Parents of Edgefield County Students - Start asking questions now to the school board. Do you want to see fewer children in your childs classroom to lower the student and teacher ratio? Well the "Peach" grant has been over - the grant money is gone.  These teachers need to be in regular classrooms reducing class size. Do we need a literacy coach to help with our literacy? NO - We need a lower student and teacher ratio. These salaries can be best used on the front lines teaching classes of children and being held accountable by TAP just like the rest of us. We feel like slaves.  What's your reccomendation  Dr. Tobin? We are telling you what we need. Are you listening and will you hear us? My early childhood classroom is overflowing.    Let the schools vote if they "need" a "Literacy Coach".    What a messed up school district and so much wasted money. Wasted tax dollars. Can anyone tell me what the point or purpose in making a child that transfers to Fox Creek and plays sports has to sit out an entire calendar year is for? Is that just a Fox Creek rule or is that standard everywhere? I actually WANT to transfer my child to Fox Creek next year, but he plays football and soccer and I will not make him give that up and sit around in the afternoons with nothing to do! Seems extremely unfair to the kids to me unless I’m just missing something here?

Editor's note: The rules are state wide to prevent one school from using covert ways to recruit players from one school to another in or out of district. If your son plays sports, he will not be allowed to participate in those sports for one year after changing schools. He would have an entire season of his high school year wiped out while sitting on the bench in both sports.

I hope the cyclists has a speedy recovery but my complaint is with the black people who walk in the roads and not on the side of the street but out into the street causing traffic to move to the other lane, sometimes all the way, to keep from hitting them. Then they have the audacity to look at you like you shouldn’t be driving down the road. It’s not all of them, but a majority of them. Yesterday I had to blow the horn for them to move out of the road and I received the great sign that I was number 1. They act like they own the road and don’t bother mentioning it to our illustrious law enforcement, that is just a waste of breathe and energy.

If they can stand all day outside of a liquor store under a no loitering sign and the police ignore them, then why would they care that they walk down the middle of streets. It’s all fun and games until they cause someone to have an accident. It’s not like you would ever get any money for their involvement or an admission of their callousness causing problems..

Too bad the housing market is too soft to sell my home so I could move to decent town.

Wow, she must have been really good at her job.
At the top right hand corner of page 17 of the New York Post,January 24, 2009, was a column entitled, "Replacing Michelle" in the National Review, The Week.

"Some employees are simply irreplaceable. Take Michelle Obama: The University of Chicago Medical Center hired her in 2002 to run 'programs for community relations, neighborhood outreach, volunteer recruitment, staff diversity and minority contracting".

In 2005 the hospital raised her salary from $120,000 to $317,000 - nearly twice what her husband made as a Senator. Her husband, Barack Obama, had just become a U.S. Senator. He requested a $1 million "Earmark" for the UC Medical Center. Way to network, Michelle!

Now that Mrs. Obama has resigned, the hospital says her position will remain unfilled. How can that be, if the work she did was vital enough to be worth $317,000? Let me add that Michelle's position was a part-time, 20-hours-a-week job.

20hrs. X 52 weeks = 1,040 hours per year
$317,000 divided by 1,040 hours = $304.80 per hour.

My thoughts: How did this bit of "quid pro quo" (scratch my back - I'll scratch yours) corruption escape the sharp reporters that dug through Sarah Palin's garbage and kindergarten files?

Recession is when your neighbor loses his job.
Depression is when you lose your job.
Recovery is when Obama loses his job.

FoxCreek High and Strom Thurmond High were suppose to play a JV softball doubleheader this past Saturday but FoxCreek forfeited the games. It seems they were using ineligible players and the state sent them a letter telling them if they played the games their varsity season would also be forfeited. This is not a suprise to anyone. They have already had to forfeit games in Football, Baseball, Basketball and now Softball. Does Dr. Murph even know what is going on with the athletic department? Maybe some of the parents filming the Edgefield County School Board meeting should spend more time seeing what is going on at their State School and leave Strom Thurmond alone. Nobody cares what the failed businessman has to say at the meeting anyway. Take your camera and start filming at your beloved FoxCreek. All FoxCreek has done is break rules since the doors opened and that is a fact.

Editor's note: According to unconfirmed information, Dr. Murph is said to have applied as the new ECSD Superintendent. He was promoted by many from Fox Creek at the last shake-up in the position in the Wandering Minds.

As the rest of us are paying unbelievable gas prices and trying to keep food on the table, our wonderful leader and his wife continue to party on our dime. I know a state dinner is normal but I am so sick of our tax dollars paying for expensive vacations and lavish living from people who tell us we need to share the wealth. We teachers are waiting for something on TAP. There needs to be some guidelines for Prin opals selecting the "leadership" team members. It should NOT be some young person that is in their first year of teaching in a specific school. It does not matter years of teaching experience! We do not appreciate the fact someone of this status was chosen and certainly do not want her coming into our classrooms to evaluate us! The schoolboard surely needs to get control of TAP.  Come sit in on our cluster meetings and see how no one can get a word in because of this person talking all the time thinking she knows so much more than the rest of us. Yet we have the respect of the majority of our students and they don't give us trouble. She can't seem to control her classes without help from the principal! Person of leadership? Ha!

RE: "Writer "Vehemently" disagrees with comment on Election Commission"  http://www.edgefielddaily.com/letter031512.html

My, my,my a little touch are we.

First, you could have strengthened your case by stating the case-the complaint brought forth by the people- was the second time in the last two election cycles this individual used this residency excuse, thus you could have cited the intent has been ongoing, so how long does "intent to move in" go on-centuries?

Second, you mean to tell us taxpayers of which you receive compensation from, that you actually have very little authority or power to uphold the law or challenge such ludicrous decisions?  So then what are we paying you for?  We can get anyone to read the rules.  And you're also telling us taxpayers that a body of government who votes unanimously to enforce the law, can be that easily struck down by some hack judge?  Again, what are we taxpayers paying for if it is that easy to circumvent you?  By virtue of your own whining response, you are in fact just another layer of useless bureaucracy we taxpayers are paying for, huh?

Editor's note: Under the law, the county could not take the judgment to a higher court. Blame the judge, sure. Blame the Election Commission  [who voted unanimously against Jackson] or the lawyer is a bit unfair. It is like blaming the Sheriff for an arrest that the person is released on bond over their objection by the judge.

Blame the judge. Everybody else did their job.

Well, I asked about the baseball teams and the Johnston players going to Edgefield to play there. Now I guess maybe someone can answer another question. Does football work the same way. My children have played in Johnston for several years and they are very talented, but in Johnston there are only two (maybe three) players that ever touch the ball and I practice daily with my boys on throwing and catching. Can I simply take my children to Edgefield to play on a team not centered around two players?

I hate to admit it but I guess it really boils down to race. My kids simply hold a position and take up space on Johnston teams. Maybe Edgefield would be more receptive. These are the formidable years of development for future sports involvement and with what I pay for their summer camps, it would be nice to see them utilized.

Is it too late to move them to Edgefield to play baseball?

In the past this line item was paid by the pound. Currently South Carolina pays this line item by the lineal foot to discourage excess material being applied to the road surface for profit. The section of road on SR 191 has approximately 3 times material needed to seal the existing cracks. SC state Specifications say all excess material will be removed. If SCDOT inspectors would have been on site and required the company to you squeegees as stated in the specifications this would not have happened. It seems that the Town of Johnston is being run like the schools were years ago. Never keep up with any maintenance just let things run themselves into the ground, then spend a boat load of money to fix them, or just scrape them and buy something new. You would never do that to your car or re. Of course not. You would always maintain those items. But the Town of Johnston does not, whether it's the garbage truck, the chipper truck, or even the rakes and shovels they use, nothing is taken care of. Oh wait, they do take care of the town diesel boat pick-up truck. Why do we need something so big and expensive to run? Also, you could not find a cop car locally? Hard to believe that one.  I am sure not all residents of this town are willing to pay a surcharge for garbage pick up. But that's what they do, just suck the little person dry especially when you are retired and living on Social Security. Can't wait for the next election. And one more thing. I was told that to voice any problems to go to my council person and let them know.

The $50 Lesson

Recently, while I was working in the flower beds in the front yard, my neighbors stopped to chat as they returned home from walking their dog. During our friendly conversation, I asked their little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up.

She said she wanted to be President some day.

Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, "If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?"

She replied... "I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people."

Her parents beamed with pride!

"Wow...what a worthy goal!" I said. "But you don't have to wait until you're President to do that!" I told her.

"What do you mean?" she replied.

So I told her, "You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and trim my hedge and I'll pay you $50. Then you can go over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house."

She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?"

I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

Her parents aren't speaking to me.....

Unfortunately, animal abuse is NOT a felony in SC (unlike many other states including NC). This sorry excuse for a human will apparently get away with a misdemeanor 'slap on the wrist'.  SC Law DOES consider 'torture, tormenting, needless mutilation, cruel killing, or infliction of excessive or repeated unnecessary pain ' a felony 'with imprisonment of 180 days to 5 years and  fine of five thousand dollars.'. Personally, I think letting a dog have its foot caught in a trap for so long the foot fell off when the trap was removed and the poor dog had to be put down constitutes 'torture, tormenting or needless mutilation', and I have NO idea why this Gilchrist person was only charged with the lesser offense....

I am not sure what being an Obama supporter has to do with cruelty to animals, but I know what being an Obama supporter has to do in the matter of cruelty to humans. This whole debate on birth control, AKA  abortion, is ridiculous and anyone who thinks very hard about it will see that. What is crueler than supporting someone who is OK with killing babies? Anyone who looks at Obamacare sees the cruelty people will face when they need healthcare. It is cruel to people who work hard to have to share their "wealth". It is not a free society when the government dictates every little thing that we have or do in our lives. It is cruel to a society that wants to live in a free nation. Socialism, communism, Marxism, whatever he is pushing, are not a systems of government that are kind to the people. They are cruel and unfair to those that want to live in a country that is based on the ideas set forth in our Constitution. I understand the outcry concerning the cruelty to animals in Edgefield county, but think about all the folks that support a president who is pushing an agenda that is cruel to all of us. It is time to wake up and call it what it is. It is no longer one nation under God, it is one nation under Obama. Scary, scary, scary.

Time for this week's Bozo Report.  The Bozo goes to the crew that is putting down tar on the cracks on the highway, namely Hwy 191 from Hwy 121 to the Aiken line, and now along Hwy 25 from Star Road towards town.  What a waste of money and time doing this. What are they trying to accomplish? When they were done with Hwy 191, it went from a smooth road to a dipsy doodle highway. If this is my highway tax dollars at work, I might as well open my car window and just throw my wallet out! Plus, these Bozo's don't know how to control the flow of traffic. Don't believe me, just drive past McDonalds towards the by-pass and see how many cars you meet in the same lane as you. I don't know who was responsible for this, but maybe they need the cracks in their head patched as well.

Editor's note: This type of work is to seal cracks in the pavement that would allow water to get underneath the roadway causing more problems or expand the problems during the winter when rains fall and then temps drop below freezing making the problem worse.

In the hospital the relatives gathered in the waiting room, where a family member lay gravely ill. Finally, the doctor came in looking tired and  somber.

“I'm afraid  I'm the bearer of bad news,” he   said as he surveyed the worried faces. “The only hope left for your loved one at this time is a brain transplant. It's an experimental procedure, very risky, but it is the only hope. Insurance will cover the procedure, but you will have to pay for the BRAIN.”

The family members sat silent as they absorbed the news. After a time, someone asked, “How much will a brain cost?”

The doctor quickly responded, '$5,000 for a Democrat's brain; $200 for a Republican's brain.'

The moment turned awkward. Some of the Democrats actually had to 'try' to not smile, avoiding eye contact with the Republicans. A man unable to control his curiosity, finally blurted out the question everyone wanted to ask, “Why is the Democrat's brain so much more than a Republican's brain?”

The doctor smiled at the childish innocence and explained to the entire group, “It's just standard pricing procedure. We have to price the Republicans' brains a lot lower because they're used.”

Editor's note: If the charge was issued as a felony it would take a warrant, then an indictment by the Grand Jury, and a trail date years in the coming. Most likely he would get "probation" just to clear the case due to the backlog.

By filing it in Magistrate Court the trial will be held this month and there is a fine and jail time available to the judge. The law under Magistrate Court does not list probation as an option. The court closer to home works best in some cases.

Four of us in our immediate neighborhood have been the grateful recepients of the volunteers who have responded.  One neighbor would not now have his house had these volunteers not left what they were doing at night to come put out his fire.  Another neighbor would likely not be alive today had they not responded in a timely manner.  Not to mention the numerous car accidents they service, or the meth labs they close, etc.

We know from personal knowledge that when that call comes in, the volunteer leaves--his kids' birthday parties, his warm bed in the middle of the night, his job during the day, and then tries to go about his business the next day deprived of sleep--and for what??  Obviously not for money; then what?  To hear criticism from some jerk?!!?

I have been trying to find out answers about the revenue, teaching qualifications and other things but have been told they did not have time to answer my questions. I thought there was some law that said they had to answer. The board members are so secretive and who is this group of people acting like they have been appointed as the super board. Just because your last name is one everybody thinks is great does not give them the right to look down on everybody else. I call them the traveling road show. I have been told they are actually filming the school board meetings in Edgefield. What a bunch of arrogant and egotistical people. If you give me this contact information, I am going to show them how smart they are.

Editor's note: Fox Creek is now a State Charter School and is not part of the Edgefield County School District. I would suggest you contact the state department of education for information.

I was a key officer in a business for over 35 years.  When we had employee who could not do their job, they were terminated.  Why can’t Edgefield Country Government work the same?  Problem with county now – we have to many just drawing a paycheck for little work or just causing problems for the dedicated, good workers to handle.  Not fair!  This includes some of the council members also – but have seen improvements recently.  Thank You!

Since when is it race discrimination if you are demoted because you are unable to do your job correctly? I know, I know,  it is all the race game that goes on. These people have been discriminated against for years and somehow it is OK to not ruffle any feathers.  Actually, the ones getting the shaft with the ex- tax assessor's salary are all the tax payers in Edgefield county. That includes black tax payers, white tax payers , and all other tax payers. Are the courts so messed up that they would take her side and she would win a discrimination suit? Good grief-you have plenty of witnesses who can testify to wrongfully charged taxes. She should be thankful she had a good paying job for as long as she did, especially since she was not qualified for it in the first place. Now, she can laugh all the way to the bank.

I'd like to 'ax' a question. While reading the headline stories from this site, I see pictures of the most recent animal cruelty person and pictures of the trio from Bettass Academy who got into trouble selling drugs. Are these fine Edgefield county and Obama supporters living off us tax payers? Are they getting money for being worthless and insolvent to society? Are they taking the gov-ment money they be gettin and using it fo scratch-offs, liquor, drugs, smokes, or lobster? These fine photographic memories often published on this site show a layer of society that gets free money and abuses their entitlement because
they are continually breaking the law and could care less about the consquences.
These are Obama people living off you and me whose only worth to society is breaking the law, sleeping, drinking, making babies, sleeping, eating, making babies. And these people wonder why most of us don't want them on our property, near our children or in close proximity to our farm animals. And what should really make you mad is these people are Obama's base of supporters. And these people vote, yet
probably can't read or write. We need legislation which requires these people to take drug tests in order to get their entitlements. The entitlement system is broken and I am tired of paying for people who should be working....not sleeping all day.

WOW another Bozo!!! This is getting too easy!

An Edgefield, S.C., mom was arrested Thursday after she used her car to hit another vehicle while her baby was on board, police said.

Tieshia Laquitta Weaver, 20, was charged with third-degree assault and battery, possession or marijuana, and unlawful conduct toward a child, according to a North Augusta Public Safety incident report.

Weaver tried to start a fight with a woman parked outside the Waffle House at 960 Edgefield Road about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, the report says. Weaver used her burgundy Toyota to strike the vehicle of a 25-year-old Johnston, S.C., woman two or three times, according to the report. The father of Weaver’s baby was in the car with the Johnston woman.

When the woman got out to inspect the damage, Weaver took off in her Toyota, the report says. A passerby alerted police that Weaver had gone to the Circle K at 1035 Edgefield Road.

At the gas station, a clerk told police that Weaver left the baby inside with an employee. Weaver confirmed that to police, adding that she didn’t know the person, according to the report.

An inventory of her vehicle turned up plastic bag with seeds and green leaves believed to be marijuana, the report says. The items were sent to a lab for testing.

He's got plenty of "hands on" experience with law enforcement. But he ain't gonna talk about that experience.

Editor's note: Our local Magistrates are appointed by Sen. Massey, then approved by the state congress, and signed off on by the Governor. The decision to remove Mr. Parkman was made by Sen. Massey. This will give the children time to clip coupons and seek special from the sales paper. Instead of just giving your children an allowance, just allow them to keep the money they save you with coupons and sale ads. Just remember don't let the coupons push you into a purchase that you would not normally make.

The County Administrator could not fire the incompetent Tax Assessor, because the incompetent
Tax Assessor would sue the county for discrimination. The only answer is to move the incompetent
Tax Assessor to a position where she can not foul up everybody's taxes...a job she excells at.
That old saying,"being promoted to your highest level of incompetency' fits in this case. Year after
year, the incompetent Tax Assessor has made tax mistake after tax mistake. What happened this
year to get the attention of her boss? Hundreds of complaints is the answer. Now is the time for
'The man of the Year' Dean Campbell to handle the situation. Now is the time for the County Council
to send the incompetent Tax Assessor to another county. Ohhh....Brothers Dorn and Mr. 'Bright' Bulb

Kneece and Wayne Adams hired the lowly qualified Tax Assessor. There were plenty of other highly
qualified applicants, but this band of Democraps hired someone who was not qualifed, so they could
promote the 'skin game'.  Usually, when a person is demoted, their salary is demoted as well. But, the

With the focus Michelle Obama has been placing on children's health, in relation to eating healthy, why don't the states and the fed eliminate soft drinks from the EBT program. These drinks have no nutritional value and makeup as much as 20% of the money spent. I have stood in line behind EBT users and seen them purchased a buggy full of 12 pack sodas. Allowance for milk, orange juice and water is all that is needed.

Also, another way to reduce the cost associated with the EBT program would be to require those users to use coupons to pay for at least 20% of their purchases. My wife and I started couponing almost a year ago and save at least 60% everytime we go to the store. If an item is not on sale and we don't have a coupon for that item, we don't buy it.

The overall reduction to the EBT program could then be cut by a total of 20%. How many billions of tax dollars do you think this would save, without harming those people that are on the program. To put pressure on our school systems and corporations like McDonalds to provide more nutritional foods for kids and not taking these kinds of actions is pure hipocracy.

Editor's note: Take it one step further. Working Americans have to pass drug tests to work to pay the money used to fund the "free money" coming from workers - make those getting the money have to do the same. That will cut the number of parasites from the list.

Apparently they are building new spaces! I thought something like that would have to go in front of the county council!!! Where is this money coming from!!! Did I miss this at the last county council meeting??? Please look into this! I don't want my tax dollars wasted on stupid things!!!

Editor's note: I received emails and phone calls about this; the Tax Assessor's Office is not moving anywhere. A space is being created within the office to give Lakeisha Bryant (replaced Tax Assessor) an office for her newly created position so she can retain her $52,601.13 salary after being removed from a job she wasn't qualified for to take a job she isn't qualified for (that was not advertised) at a salary that is beyond any other similar position in counties our size - in both cases.

Mr. Editor, I want to first thank you for the information about the South Carolina State Law allowing Mr. Parkman to run for Sheriff of Edgefield County.

That was the loophole I was talking about in my first posting.  It still doesn't change the overwhelming fact that Mr. Parkman HAS NO background in leadership, futuristic problem solving, creative skills and strategies needed to build a build a partnership between the community and the sheriff's office, investigative skills, police training skills, and could not even complete the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy to get the basic minimum knowledge required to be an effective law enforcement profession let alone an effective law enforcement executive.  Well enough said, the facts are clear on his inadequate experience, we deserve a quality law enforcement trained Sheriff and I hope the people of Edgefield demands this as a quality for our Sheriff.

web posted March 3, 2012

Let me get this right! Former Chief Magistrate Davis Parkman is intending to run for the Office of Sheriff with no real back ground in the ever changing challenges that the law enforcement profession is tasked to accomplish in society today.  His accolades are that he was a Johnston Town Council member where he was the chairman of the police committee (where I hope he was not a contributor to the lack of salaries and resources that challenge the Johnston Police Department even today) and a magistrate, Come on! Give me a break! Where is his background in leadership, futuristic problem solving, creative skills and strategies needed to build a partnership between the community and the sheriff's office, investigative skills, police training skills, and really can he even get through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (I am sure Mr. Parkman will find a policy or loophole that he will use to say he can be Sheriff without being a certified law enforcement officer).  The citizens of this great county called Edgefield deserves a Sheriff that is a certified law enforcement officer that has a significant background in a profession that is challenged with the public safety of our great county.  Mr. Parkman do yourself a favor and enjoy your retirement!!!

Editor's note: Under SC law, a magistrate with at least 10 years in office can run for Sheriff without law enforcement background.

It is now clear that the school board is seriously considering Greg Anderson as the next superintendent.  The wording of the search memo has been changed again so that any background in education has been completely removed as a requirement.

Also gone is the wording that they have retained the SC school board association.  Did they spend the $10,000 - $15,000 or not?  What a waste of taxpayer money in difficult economic times.

Why did we even fight so hard to get a new board if this is what we get?  More of the same good ole boy system while wasting money.  And don't forget they will have to spend it again in three years to look for another superintendent when Anderson is gone.

I was born in one country, raised in another. My father was born in another country.
I was not his only child.

He fathered several children with numerous women.

I became very close to my mother, as my father showed no interest in me. My mother died at an early age from cancer..

Although my father deserted me and my mother raised me, I later wrote a book idolizing my father not my mother.

Later in life, questions arose over my real name. My birth records were sketchy.

No one was able to produce a legitimate, reliable birth certificate.

I grew up practicing one faith but converted to Christianity, as it was widely accepted in my new country, but I practiced non-traditional beliefs and didn't follow Christianity, except in the public eye under scrutiny.

I worked and lived among lower-class people as a young adult, disguising myself as someone who really cared about them.

That was before I decided it was time to get serious about my life and embarked on a new career.

I wrote a book about my struggles growing up.

It was clear to those who read my memoirs, that I had difficulties accepting that my father abandoned me as a child.

I became active in local politics in my 30's then, with help behind the scenes, I literally burst onto the scene as a candidate for national office in my 40's.

They said I had a golden tongue and could talk anyone into anything.

I had a virtually non-existent resume, little work history, and no experience in leading a single organization.

Yet I was a powerful speaker and citizens were drawn to me, as though I were a magnet and they were small roofing tacks.

I drew incredibly large crowds during my public appearances. This bolstered my ego. At first, my political campaign focused on my country's foreign policy...

I was very critical of my country in the last war, and seized every opportunity to bash my country.

But what launched my rise to national prominence were my views on the country's economy.

I pretended to have a really good plan on how we could do better, and every poor person would be fed and housed for free.

I knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess. It was the free market, banks and corporations.

I decided to start making citizens hate them and, if they became envious of others who did well, the plan was clinched tight.

I called mine "A People's Campaign." That sounded good to all people.

I was the surprise candidate because I emerged from outside the traditional path of politics and was able to gain widespread popular support.

I knew that, if I merely offered the people 'hope', together we could change our country and the world..

So, I started to make my speeches sound like they were on behalf of the downtrodden, poor, ignorant to include "persecuted minorities".

My true views were not widely known and I kept them unknown, until after I became my nation's leader.

I had to carefully guard reality, as anybody could have easily found out what I really believed, if they had simply read my writings and examined those people I associated with. I'm glad they didn't.

Then I became the most powerful man in the world.

And then the world learned the truth.

Who am I?

As I read the comments in wandering minds, I am struck by all the concern over the football program at Wardlaw. I don't know much about the high schools in Edgefield county other than what I have read. I do get tired of a society that is so hung up on sports. I know it is an important part of life and experience but I think academics are more important. If people gave that much thought to the quality of an education, maybe schools would improve. What is really going to impact a student in their life-their football team or what they learn in a classroom? I know Strom Thurmond High School does well in football but I wonder, what is their drop out rate? Maybe they have a low drop out rate, I don't really know. When we looked at high schools for our kids, we looked at AP classes and those types of things. Somehow the football program was not a game changer for us as far as a choice in high schools. I just think things get really topsy turvy when we focus too much on things like football. There are so many bigger issues facing schools and our society.

And speaking of the handicap placards, why  do you insist of keeping it on your mirror at all times? If you read the top of it, it says to remove when driving. That's what I do, then it doesn't block my window. Are you looking for sympathy when you run a stop sign or a red light and just miss a car because you claim you didn't see them, and you just point to the placard? Just take them off until you pull into a handicap space or just leave it on your dash, then you would have a clear view especially the driver who can't see over the wheel, drive with their seats almost laying back flat and on their cell phone! No wonder you take your life in your hands when you drive.

Well that's it for this week, join me next week when we discuss another new Bozo!
