Editor's post: I have to commend the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Deputies that spotted the armed robbers shortly after their alleged crime at the Dodges Store in Edgefield Sunday morning. Richmond County deputies were unable to locate them after a reported related crime there an hour earlier and yet Edgefield County Deputies were not only able to locate them but lead to their arrests by refusing to let them get away.

The sad part is that a majority of the Edgefield County Council does not see the need in replacing patrol vehicles that are well beyond their suggested lifetime for “pursuit” in violent crimes or responding to 911 calls.

Giving money away to “politically connected” groups is far more important. Contact County Council members Monroe Kneece, Willie Bright, and Norman Dorn and tell them our tax dollars should go to protecting the citizens of this county.

Watching TV in Edgefield of a class that is taking place in Greenwood or finding out who your great-great-great grandfather is has never saved a single life.

Deputies in patrol cars have.

It is time this county places its priorities in order.

I went to get some milk (Sunday) morning at (removed) and saw all the cops at Dodges and was told they were robbed. I went home and checked EdgefieldDaily and there was all the news. I followed it all day! I think you should change the logo to "All the news all the time"!!!!! I can always count on (Edgefield Daily).

I can see that nothing has changed at Fox Creek High School. I attended there all 4 years and everyone kept saying the school would get better. In my opinion, it has gone downhill ever since the very first year it opened. The school is not open for educational purposes whatsoever. It is open to students who in no way would be able to successfully play a sport at a "big" high school but could possibly be seen by a college and given a scholorship and then waste it after their first year of college because of partying or not actually knowing how to do school work. Fox Creek is not a school, its a popularity contest run by politics.

Today I had an IEP meeting for my son. He is at PRIDE academy right now (which I am extremely happy with!) and will be going to Strom Thurmond. I must admit that I was very nervous about my son moving on to ST as he is a special ed student & has had some behavior issues due to the special needs.

After our IEP meeting we went to ST and a wonderful occupational/careers teacher gave us a great tour and really calmed my nerves! She showed us most of the places my son would need to know and introduced us to many teachers and we even met some students, like a wonderful graduating senior from ROTC (my son will be doing ROTC). It was just a wonderful day for me and really helped my feeling about him attending such a big school! The second we walked in the door the ladies in the front office were SO nice! The guidance secretary & the nurse & another lady! They answered a few questions and found the teacher to show us around and welcomed my son very warmly! I feel so much better about my decision. We live very close to FCHS but my son needs much more than FC can offer him and the career center!

One thing that did upset me was hearing about (an employee) resignation. We will miss her so much! My kids had her as their guidance counselor at MES and then my son also had her as the Special Ed Coordinator. She is a wonderful lady and will be missed greatly in our county by parents, teachers, students and other admin! Good luck!!!

To all the folks around town worried about the trustle! I am a truck driver myself. There are several signs warning CDL drivers about low clearence but they are to busy eating or reading a map or talkin on a
phone to notice them. I am guilty of missing road signs! Truck drivers are suppose to look out for other people as well as them selves. For the people concerned about someone else gettin killed! You are the ones that should pay more attention while you are driving! Put your phone down and keep your eyes open. If there is a tractor trailer even close to the trustle you should know to stay away from it. Slow down and keep your distance! Every one in edgefield knows that trucks hit that trustle all the time. So stop fussin about truck drivers when some of you same people are guilty of not watching the road! I find it funny that they want to raise the trustle. Hahaha there will be a lot more trucks going right through the middle of town then peoples bumpers will get taken off when the tractor trailers run into cars
parked on main street. Cause most of the CDL drivers that hit the trustle are new drivers! Would you trust them with a 53 foot trailer inches from your car at 25 miles per hour? I say leave the trustle! It
keeps a lot of tractor trailers out of the city limits! And as far as the truck pullin a goose neck trailer! He should have got a ticket! You should always know the hight, weight and width of your vehicle and/
or trailer! There is never a good excuse as to why people hit the trustle. "I didn't see the sign" ok so you didn't see the other two either? "I didn't know I was over 13 feet." hahaha did you get your CDL from Wal Mart?" The only reason for hittin that trustle should be "I am stupid blind and retarded!"

I can say that 2 of the write in candidates for the Fox Creek Election have hidden agendas of their own.  The one that seems to be in the news the most is probably one of the most controlling, vindictive, pretending to be a goody two shoes that could care less about the school or she would not be trying to drum up the controversy that she does.  Has she never considered that just maybe NOBODY wants her hanging out at the school much less having to deal with her being on the board, trying to tell everyone else how to live their lives?  Judgemental is an understatement for this woman and she needs to take a long hard look in the mirror before she really makes herself out to be a bigger fool than she already is.  Most people think shes crazy and has no life, obviously from her behavior.  Why didn't she give up the website to the school if she had the best interest of the school at heart?  Half the time she never updated the information that was given to her unless you told her three or four times.  I guess too busy trying to mind everyone else's business.  For her, it's all about the control.  One of the other candidates left the school hanging high and dry, yes, quit her job and never offered the current bookkeeper ANY help whatsoever nor did she return any of her calls for help.  Yea, I want these two ladies running my child's school, for them, it was simply a chance to get even.........

As a student at STHS, I would like to comment on 50 cent coming to STHS.  Can I just say what a disruption to the entire day.  I wanted to get a book out of my locker and was told do to the fact that this "celebrity" was interviewed hand picked students that I could not enter the hallway to get my book.  I was very angry and upset.  What if I needed the book to study for an exam would I have been told I could not enter.  Then I found out that there were students hand picked to be on the documentary, some seniors, oh I thought only juniors were allowed to see this "celebrity" a sophomore male student,. why was he picked after all he's not an honor student just trying to date two sisters at the same time and was warned by the students father to stay away.... what a choice and a female student that hardly ever comes to school another male senior president that thinks he is all that.  but really not so why were these students picked and by whom our administrators that did not use common sense I guess this is STHS

To the individual who claims he doesn't care who knows that he/she does NOT support Mr. Mims in the coming election..........

If you feel so strongly about having your name published in order to show readers your distrust of Mr. Mims, the answer is really very simple.  Instead of typing "Wandering Minds" on the Subject line of
your email, just type "Letter to the Editor."  At that point (the Editor) will be more than happy to print your "rant" along with your name.

I look forward to seeing your "Letter to the Editor" in which you list your reasons for not supporting Mr. Mims.  As you stated in your rant, you don't work for the Mayor, Mr. Ransford or Mr. Mims, so you don't have anything to lose.  I say GEAUX for it.

Editor's note: I made the same suggestion to both comments.

The Democrat controlled House passed this measure that would authorize a $6.6 billion rebate program for energy-efficient home renovations for households with incomes up to $250,000. How many households is THAT?  uh...MOST!  The bill now goes to the Senate.  Do you have any doubt how they will vote?  I wonder if we will ever know how much corruption and waste of taxpayer money will be involved in this one. How many more Gov. employees will it take  to oversee that program?  Will ACORN be involved?  Oh my!  Have I mentioned before that Seniors on Social Security didn't receive a COLA this year and probably won't next year as well?  Oh, but members of Congress and Federal employees got theirs as usual.  Oh well, let them eat cake.

I can't hold back any longer.  All we hear from some people is cut administrators at the school/district.  Do you know how many administrators are left at the district office now? We just lost another great administrator this week and she will surely be missed.  She also happened to be one that grew up and was educated in Edgefield County.  Wonder how many "locals" are left in our system.....Where would the schools be without the administrators.....just ask the teachers.  It's so easy for someone who has never been involved in education to pass judgment on what is going on, but I can tell you we are
going downhill fast and I only know of one administrator that needs to go!

Glad to know I’m not the only one wondering what the heck ST Administration was thinking when they allowed Curtis Jackson (a.k.a. 50 Cent) to totally disrupt school the day before exams!  Could someone tell me who made that decision?  What exactly was the purpose of his visit?  That’s certainly not the kind of role model I want for my children. He openly admits to being a drug dealer beginning at age 12, openly admits he often had guns and drugs at school, he dropped out of school, he's had numerous legal woes, was arrested and served time in prison for weapons charges, was shot nine times (he refused to cooperate with law enforcement, but his accused shooter was murdered three weeks later), took the name 50 Cent from a well-known street robber, is involved in numerous ongoing “feuds” with other rappers, and has been quoted as saying, “I provide for myself by any means.”  Mr. Jackson's message to ST students is that you can have no education, no regard for the law, but it’s all okay . . . just as long as you make tons of money.  ST Administration, was there no concern about review work and preparation for the students having exams beginning Friday?  50 Cent's visit created nothing more than an atmosphere of total chaos and distraction for the students that actually care about their education.  It’s sickening to know that Edgefield County and Strom Thurmond High School will be a part of his documentary on VH1.  What an embarrassment.

There are steps the legislature could take to help school districts and taxpayers, but they refuse to  remove certain districts from segregation policies of the 1970's. rezoning needs to take place in larger districts. larger districts such as aiken county need to be FORCED  to eliminate redundant positions, and rezone schools. for example, students in lakes and streams subdivision which is 3 miles from MV attend NA  schools.  those students are bussed 10 miles to school everyday. MV is 3 miles from lakes and streams subdivision , NA is overcrowded, while MV is under capacity. why? because a good ol boy agreement was reached with the district.  it is well within the area 3 district. you have area administrators making at or just below 100,00 dollars a year plus staff, benefits and maintenance on buildings. its time to reorganize the larger districts.  SC has the OLDEST bus fleet in the nation, why? because students are not a priority. its time the counties to reorganize larger districts those that can rezone due to population changes and can be relieved from segregation bussing needs to be relieved. period. why would you drive 10 miles for a service when the identical service is only 3 miles away? redundant and unnecessary positions need to be eliminated. why do we have a school board when we have administrators making decisions for them? its time to put common sense into the equation reorganize, rezone and cut the fat from the TOP. some moves may not be popular, but they are in the BEST interest of the students and the state, how long will it be ok to rank last in education becasue we have put administrative positions and programs at the top and not education. obviously that doesn't work. we have made unpopular decisions in the past, its time to make one now.

i am sitting reading wandering minds on the celebrity that was at sths on thursday.when  you get to talking about it was a waste of time. i am not sure about that. so what really need to be done is research on his life  before the fame.what all he had to go through before he start his life as a rapper. role model  ? yes he is ! i guess we forgot  what a role model is ...we have too many young people that is going doing the wrong road .

do you see anyone else  trying to do something  for the kids , so if he trace his roots back to edgefield county and want the world to know i am glad he is here doing this. just maybe it will change some of the kids life....you really need to read and educate yourself on celebrity when they come an visit our town.all my years we have never had anyone to claim that they are from here or was the family was here .so i am thankful he is doing this here.

why just the junior class ? i think that was a great choice maybe that was a point in his life. he needed someone to tell him about  role models . was it a great time for him to be at the school? yes! it was right before the 9,10 and the 11 grade exam.they are in review and really didn't bother other class all the juniors was out of class foe 50 minutes .it was a b block day the exam was for friday which is a -block day. some seniors was taking exam but i don't see how that effect that at all. they really enjoy the visit with 50 cent .

could they have had it on the football field ? no ! he is a celebrity  we is a small town that do not have enough  police officer to cover the football field . they had it in the gym it was  a great place to have it . for once can we just be thankful for a celebrity coming to talk to the youth .he could have chosen any where to talk to the youth .he  pick STHSthe class of 2011 . i am grateful and can not wait to see the special on tv about his roots in johnston s.c.  which is in  edgefield county some people is never happy we can't please everyone..

It is amazing to me how some people can be so critical these students had a once in a life time opportunity why would you not want them to have that chance why is it always about us.  No you could not care less because that’s not your time period maybe if you had prepared your student during the school year not being able to review would not have been a problems.  I mean its time to grow up and stop being so selfish and only consider what you think. It was a pleasure to have 50 cent in our community and school thank you Mr. Schilit and Dr. Crenshaw for considering what was a wonderful opportunity for our youths.

RE: New Fox Creek Web Site-
I went there and the only thing that is active is about sports.  This is the focus of the school administrator and will be the focus of the website. They should have the graduating class, honor roll students and info on teachers.  Maybe throw in the school performance for the past year (or do they only do that when it is good?)  Same ole brown stuff flowing fron the head office.

Wow! We got the unhinged opportunity to make a dollar out of fifty cents today at Strom Thurmond High School. What did the kids learn today? They learned that if you make up songs about drugs, sex, violence, and abuse, then you can come to a small town high school and disrupt the whole day. I'm sorry, it's great that this rapper is exploring his roots, but I would have liked to have a normal day of teaching. Exams begin tomorrow and the important opportunity to review was just a lost cause. It was frustrating to say the least to try to explain to students why only one grade was chosen to go to an assembly led by 50 cent. I think they could have had the assembly up on the football field and let all students have an opportunity to hear what he had to say. I could care less to have seen him or not, but a lot of unhappy students went home today. What did this accomplish for our high school, but the following: a wasted day of learning, an inconvenience to students and teachers, a lot of unappy students and so much wasted time. Oh by the way, what a wonderful role model to come and speak to our students. I personally don't know any music by 50 cent, but after researching it on the Internet, I found out it only glorifies a gangsta' lifestlye. Instead of trying to encourage young people to better themselves, all he did was focus on the life he has lived since he "got rich and famous."

I was wondering if I was the only person concerned about the lack of respect toward the current seniors at STHS during their exam week. What administrator would allow a "celebrity" to disrupt such an important week in these students lives? Students cannot handle their last minute priorities because there is security guarding & blocking off parts of the school. These type of distractions are what could cause some of these students the inability to concentrate on the exams being conducted on this day. I would like to "commend" the STHS administrators for their "superb" ideas on what is truly important in our schools.

I sincerely hope the driver of the wrecked tanker on Sweetwater Road is Ok as well as all those who had to deal with the mess. I have always hated someone using hindsight and saying I told you so, but I actually intended to send a post days ago before the accident about the tanker trucks and tractor trailers running Sweetwater Road. The road (as many others in the county)is not engineered to handle the type of traffic it is getting. The existing road lays pretty much as it had back in the day of wagons and mules. In many places you can see the old washed out trails alongside our current road. The abundance of curves, steep grades, lack of visibility over hills, around corners and at many intersections, and narrowness of the road makes it unsuitable for routine travel by the large tankers and tractor trailers. The road is dangerous enough for passenger vehicles. We often pass the big trucks traveling at high rates of speed and over the yellow lines hoping we will be able to get by. Apparently the big trucks are using Sweetwater as a shortcut/ alternative to Highway 25. This needs to be stopped before we have fatalities. No thru trucks and local truck traffic only on Sweetwater Road! Let’s get it done safety gurus and politicians.

If, and while, the truck traffic is allowed to continue, the State Transport Police need to spend more time on Sweetwater versus taking all of the easy targets on Highway 25 at the Interstate. In addition, the Highway Patrol could better monitor the trucking traffic on Sweetwater as well. Haven’t you all heard of the Highway Patrol’s “saturations”? Why can’t they “saturate” the area around the fuel storage facilities on Sweetwater and monitor the heavy truck traffic a little better.

(And before someone wants to make an issue that we can reduce the speed limit on Sweetwater to 35 MPH and solve all of the problems, forget it. If the speed limits were the only factor in traffic safety, millions of tax dollars would not be spent every year on roadway safety design and engineering issues.)

i am wandering why all the missing subject about fox creek high school.i do believe we are  on the wrong subject on fox creek high.the school is not the blame for how the students are acting while out of school. they are teacher not police officer.we talking about fox creek  students  have anyone checked out sths. we should be happy to have two high school in the county . aiken county has five or more high school. my bad we call fox creek a charter school.everyone sitting around talkin like kids.instead of thinkin about what you can do to help budgets. fox creek  teachers can not help what the students do away from the school as well as sths .i am sure that some of the students  at sths have been in trouble as well.
i really think  the subject should be the parents of the students at fox creek just is dysfunctional , not the teachers.... yes lets talk about schools in all .we understand that children need  to learn so come up with a subject to keep the students out of trouble.. i think they need something to do after school  this is where your  Mayor, and City Hall  come in...???
Where is the guidance  dept., school board members, principal's, and the superintendent lets get the students off the streets into college....
here's some idea's :
1. get them a trade that they can do after  graduation
2. some  big sister and brother program

as for parent's get  active  in your child life . know  what is going on,who they hanging out with . trust if you get in their life they  would not be so dysfunctional about
when problems come up they would know how to handle them.  so we would have more students  in college instead of jail....???

so please turn your subject to the students and not bad mouth schools..... can we get on the same team....... we in the same county

Editor's post:  It appears there is a lot more to the shooting incident involving Jeffrey Britt Jr. Information I have been given suggests that there is an almost gang-like attitude between Fox Creek students and NA High and it is an ongoing situation. I am curious why the driver of the car the shots were fired from has not been charged yet? I have also been told of a "rumble" of students from both schools in Aiken County on Bettis Academy Road that the Aiken County Sheriff's Office is not pushing with an investigation. I am told it is well known and the school is doing nothing to prevent or discourage it. I hope that is not the case.

I am looking forward to vacation. It is much deserved and well past due.

RE: FC Board Elections

Question for Suzy Stewart: Why didn't you run for Board officially? What is with all these back door write in antics?  It's common knowledge that your only agenda is to take out the principal..then what?  Go back to the days of old when the kids ran the school and ran over the previous principal?  What is your agenda?  You no longer have children at the school so why are you concerned?

Answer:  I was prohibited from “officially” running for the board by the majority on the board who voted to adopt the proposal by Dr. Murph limiting the candidates on the ballot to 4 and calling it a run-off.  Please understand that a run-off occurs in the event where there are TOO MANY candidates achieving a majority vote; in our case we failed to get ENOUGH candidates with a majority.  FCHS should be conducting a special election with an all new ballot to fill from 3 to 9 vacant positions.  The rules for this election are replete with error but it wasn’t my idea.

My agenda is to restore fiscal responsibility, accountability and transparency, re-establishing the propriety of the board and returning it to the parents and other stakeholders.  Apparently you interpret that to mean getting rid of Murph but I assure you that no one board member can do that.  However, if I am elected his conduct and contract will be re-evaluated.

Having a child at the school is not required to serve on the board and interestingly enough 4 of the 7 currently seated board members do not have children at the school.  But why do I care?  Three good reasons: 1st) Because I am an Edgefield County resident, my tax dollars support FCHS and I want them spent responsibly.  2nd) The success of the school will affect property values in the area and following the housing bubble bust, that is no small concern.  And 3rd but not last) I care for the students there.  I have dedicated most of my adult life caring for youth and I believe high school is a time when teens need conscientious oversight.  Our courts are overrun with misguided young adults and if I can be part of redirecting them toward a healthy adulthood, I will do my best.

I was not able to work the car line today as I had to stay with a friend whose husband was in a car wreck at lunch and while I regret that, I am still accessible at sstewart@foxcreekhs.org.  I encourage all the parents and teachers to join the movement for change, it’s well time.

You asked why are Fox Creek students allowed to fight in the hallway? The real question is why does Fox Creek allow the students/teachers to do 80% of what they do? I sent my child to Fox Creek last year and quickly found out that the students RUN that school. I dropped my child off at a school sports practice, when I saw 2 students in the back seat of the a car (you can fill in the rest). I went to the school and I was told by the principal "there is NOTHING we can do, it is off school property!" Hello, none of the practices are at the school. I was also told that my child was not doing homework/classwork and test grades were VERY low, yet A's & B's on report card. I went to the school again, I was told that "maybe" they made the unfinished work up. Needless to say, my child is NOT at  Fox Creek and none of my younger children will go there! Fox Creek has quickly turned into an Alternative School, every student that has been up for suspension at other schools, enroll at Fox Creek.

Monday night at Sweetwater Baptist Church was a great political opportunity for the current Fox Creek board chair.  Wonder why the election was not last Thursday? Needed to beg for as many votes as possible.  If you went, you were probably told that she and the current secretary must be reelected so that they can move forward with Phase 2 (and I bet they said no one else could do it).  The bylaws, which they follow only when it suits their purpose, allows for people to be appointed chairs of committees.  If these two ladies were not on the board, they could be co-chairs of the Phase 2 committee and devote all their energy to that one task, they do not need to be on the board to implement Phase 2.  I would be willing to bet that neither of those ladies would rarely set foot in the school if not on the board.  They care about themselves, not your children.

Several years ago, the chairperson did not even attend graduation (after she got reelected, she did not need to shake hands and seek out votes).

Fox Creek parents, do everyone a favor and do not vote for them- elect the people from the last election that had the most write-in votes.  Next years freshman class will be forever grateful.

how can you blame teachers for what the parents need to do. if you going to blame the teachers on how out of control the students at fox creek is  you also have to blame  parents,  grandparent's , godparents and the community  family . trust they are not acting out at school they are doing it at home as well. the old school raising children was the best way you act up at anyone house you got a whipping there and home. when your grandmother heard you was bad you got another one. no such thing as time out.....can you see how the kids are in these day in time compared to back  35  or 40 years ago.we all know it takes  a community to raise  a child.. so the next time you see one of your children in  your community doing something they should not be doing call that mother /father and tell them . we  very quick to talk about what is wrong with the kids   lets take it back old school
and claim them back from the streets.get to know the people in your area so you will know who suppose to be around and who you need call help to get out your area.  stop saying "" not my child" you don't know all that your child do when you not around stop putting the kids up like their  kings and queens.... Trust  in a long run they will  Thank you

Why are students allowed to fight in the halls at Fox Creek? A couple months back one girl hit another girl in between classes in the hall. The girl had been sending her text messages for quite awhile tell her she was going to beat her up. The girl that did not want to fight walked over to her between classes to tell her she did not want to fight. Well the girl hit her anyway and when she tried to hit her again the girl that did not want to fight put her arm up to block her from hitting her again and when she did they both fell and the girl that did not want to fight broke her collar bone.
To make a long story short, Fox Creek did not call the police, they did not get the girl any medical attention, there were not any teachers in the hallway. The girl that broke her collar bone had to have surgery and had to have rods put in because the break was so bad. They finally arrested the girl that beat her up but today she goes to court and they tell her that this will go to a Jury Trial and they are now blaming her even though they have everything on tape. She is 16 and the girl that hit her is 18.
The girl that is 18 never go hurt.
Do you see anything wrong with this picture? She has to go to Jury Trial even though she is not the one that did anything. Now you tell me what is wrong with Fox Creek and the Edgefield County Courts.

I am glad that you want to help in Edgefield County, however rules must be followed in order to protect you as well as the people in our county you wish to help. Each fire department that wants to first respond must have someone designated as medical officer that has the job of keeping all first responders up to date on CPR, first aid and hold inservice for the responders. Paperwork must be signed and presented to EMS Medical Control and to date, that has not been done except for one fire department. It would be nice to have first responders in each fire department. But it must be done correctly. You putting negative blogs in Wandering Minds makes me wonder why you haven't just asked your chief why he hasn't complied?

To the parent who has decided not to send their child to Fox Creek:  Fox Creek is a great school:  Yes, there are problems. There are problems at every school.  I'm sure if you ask, you will hear horror stories about things that happen at both STHS and NAHS.  Every effort is made to keep drugs out of FCHS.  There have been more drug searches this year than at any other school in the area, and none were found. I have been a volunteer and spent time in two area high schools, and have been very impressed by the behavior of students at Fox Creek.  There are going to be a few "bad apples" anywhere you go in life, and you're going to find them at any high school, not just Fox Creek.  The teachers are very good; they know and care about their students. The board issues you are reading about are related to management of operations.

There are students at the school whose families think so much of the school that they have moved to Edgefield county, signed guardianship of the student to someone living in Edgefield county, or pay to send their child to Fox Creek. I'm one of them. Please give the school a chance, I think you'll be glad you did.

Mike Casey and the fire depts did a fine job with the accident and the ethanol release, and as far as the ethanol is concerned, pure ethanol is not shipped at all, before it leaves the facility that it is produced at they add 5% gasoline to prevent the ethanol from being ingested because pure ethanol is corn grain alcohol (basically moonshine). Ethanol does burn at a lighter color but it is not colorless like methanol is ,ethanol has a flash point of 60 degrees f and a autoignition temp of about 600 f.This information is made available to a responding fire dept via the drivers manifest which contains the msds on ethanol.Further more when a tanker gets loaded with gasoline , the tanker then proceeds to an ethanol facility to get 10% of ethanol added to the tanker (called splash mixing) it gets mixed as the tanked travels to the stations for delivery . The ntsb and epa are about to approve up to 15% ethanol ,requiring more tankers on the roadways.

This is a personal thank you to (A School District employee) for her years of faithful and loyal service to the children of Edgefield County. Mrs. Strom unexpectedly resigned today after serving as the Director of Special Services, Testing Coordinator, 504 Coordinator, GT Program Coordinator, and just about every other program coordinator in Edgefield County that the superintendent of Edgefield County Schools, Dr. Crenshaw, is too lazy or incompetent to do.I cannot imagine why anyone would want to leave with such minor duties as these? Working 16 hour days and weekends to keep up with all the work of the county certainly could not have had anything to do with it?
Not to worry though. I'm sure Dr. Crenshaw will hire a very suitable replacement that lives 2 or 3 hours away and gets to work late like administrators at JET Middle, Merriwether Middle, and the Finance Office. I mean, it's not like Crenshaw and Clinkscales have ever tried to hire an administrator with an arrest record or anything. That whole thing last summer about that principal being arrested for lewd conduct was way overblown. It is good knowing so many children's lives are in such capable hands.

I have searched "Landscape Architecture Digest" and "Architecture Digest" and found a consensus on the TOP 10 Landscape Architecture programs in the US:

     1. Ohio St University
     2. Texas A&M
     3. California State Polytechnic University
     4. Cornell University
     5. Virginia Polytechnic Institute
     6. Louisiana State University
     7. University of Pennsylvania
     8. Kansas State University
     9. Purdue University
    10. University of Georgia

I do not see Clemson in the TOP 10. Are they #11? Please tell me what information you base your use of this adjective to describe the Landscape Architecture program at Clemson.

Massey and I do not have the luxury of being able to make the appointment. I am sure his choice will perform the duties admirably.”

This comment certainly doesn’t seem supportive of whomever the new magistrate will be.  Who is the new magistrate?  Has it been announced?  Is it really important to you that the two candidates you supported were not selected?    I hope the community gives the new magistrate a chance and  doesn’t bias their feelings based on your opinions.

Editor's note: The announcement of the newly tapped Magistrate was published on Monday. James A. (Jay) McLaurin, Jr. was confirmed by the Senate and is awaiting formal appointment by Gov. Sanford.

I never said I disagreed with Sen. Massey's appointment. I do feel that an appointment of those who deal with civil, criminal and other issues on a daily basis would have been a better choice than one coming from the ranks of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, who does not deal with such situations on a regular basis.

That is a pragmatic opinion from years of close and cooperating work with law enforcement and years of personal service as a private investigator. It is not intended to belittle Sen. Massey's appointment. I am sure McLaurin will be a fine Magistrate and will perform his duties admirably, as I stated.

This is to the County Line Fireman or “Ex” whichever your title is now. This shows that you are/were in it just for the glory and bling bling and not because it was in your heart. This is another reason why the Chief and Fire Board should be terminated for allowing you to post what you did here and do nothing. I guess next you will want them to put out a boxing ring at fire calls for some or maybe a cell phone in each truck so the Chief can call and tell them how to put out the fire while he is at the beach. This area should be the top of its game but no it’s the laughing stock of the county. I’m sure the reason that EMS is not allowing you to be called is for good reasons. I think maybe you might not want the truth to come out, so be careful what you wish for friend. It just might cause more damage to this area then what it is worth.

While I’m on the subject of Fire Dept’s, I think Edgefield and Merriwether Fire Dept. and EMS did a great job with the truck wreck on Sweetwater Road. The way you worked together was what the true meaning of helping is all about.  It shows it’s in your hearts and you are not in it for the glory. Mike Casey.... YOU'RE AN IDIOT!!!!! "it's worse than an alcohol fire"?!?!?!?!?!?!?!. Ethanol IS alcohol!!!! And why wouldn't you call a hazmat team for a hazardous materials spill? You have Augusta Fire dept with a hazmat team, SRS, Greenville, and Aiken county! You know, they do have equipment to patch and repair leaks on tanker trucks. Just more illustration of how ignorant and inept our EMA and EMS leaders are.

Editor's note: I was privy to information provided at the scene and those familiar with ethanol stated that the only way you could see a fire with the fuel was with thermal imagining tools because the flames were "invisible", unlike that of alcohol which would exhibit a light blue flame. A fix for the leaks was also presented at the scene and, to my knowledge, was used during the spill to stop the further loss of the highly flammable fuel.

Mr. Casey performed his duties and did so with the input of the Fire Chiefs on the scene taking their information into consideration as well as other experts who arrived on the scene. DHEC was also consulted. No fuel reached any area waterway and containment dams were placed to prevent the spread of the contamination.

Edgefield and Merriwether Fire Fighters should be commended for their quick and professional response to the situation.

It should also be noted that ethanol is not alcohol or it would be classified as alcohol. The induction of ethanol into a water supply would, as I was informed by officials on the scene, turn to water once the two were mixed, to an extent. I'm not an expert on the chemical makeup of the fuel and defer to those who have far more training in its physical makeup,

Isn’t that convenient no time for the write in candidates to get their names out. No chance to have a new election, just make sure the only names for you to see on the ballot are  the incumbents and one new hopeful member, who in my opinion would have to be an improvement. Please read the article in the Edgefield daily that  Suzy Stewart has written and remember the names for write ins. The President of the United States stood nearly arm-in-arm on the steps of the White House with President Felipe Calderon of Mexico. Calderon arrogantly criticized the courage of the State of Arizona for passing a law, which mirrors federal law designed to protect Arizona citizens from falling prey to Mexicans or anyone else that crosses the border into the United States illegally. Obama, looking on as Calderon made his inflammatory comments, took no issue with Calderon, in fact Obama made statements critical of Arizona leadership and it's government.
Further, the indescribable spectacle on May 20, 2010 when Mexican President Calderon addressed the Congress of the United States, attacking the State and government of Arizona using false, misleading, inciting, dangerous lies was bad enough. But, when what appeared to be a majority of the sitting US Congress, to include congressional leadership, rose and applauded Calderon's egregious attacks on one of our States, Arizona, it reflected one of the most despicable displays of anti-America, treasonous action by a body of Congress ever witnessed.
The United States Constitution, specifically Article IV, Section 4 in it's entirely states: "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence." The United States government has willfully failed to uphold the United States Constitution.
Where is US Government priority regarding responsibility and obligation under the US Constitution for national security and sovereignty? Arizona and other border States have said in no uncertain terms, our people are dying, illegal chaos is evident and the federal government fiddles with amnesty...Arizona has been abandoned by the federal government and says "we'll take care of own"...but just stay out of our way. What does Washington do? They find fault to cover their own incompetence, negligence, and obstinate unwillingness to ensure national security and sovereignty.
Several American Administrations have failed to secure the United States southern border after repeated pleas from border States. However, no previous Administration has allowed a foreign leader to stand on the steps of the White House and in the well of the United States Capitol, mockingly condemn a U. S. State in a false, deceitful, willful, provocative manner, while the President of the United States looks on approvingly; and a majority of Congress gives a standing ovation to a foreign leader, who is without credibility as he bashes Americans and our rule of law principles. What is President Calderon's point of objection? Arizona is following federal law in protecting it's citizens from primarily Calderon's illegal and criminal elements invading America...
When a United States President and a United States Congress, having taken an oath "...to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic...", purposefully and openly defies, and falsely condemns, a member of the Union, Arizona, while supporting and applauding a haughty, isolent, pin-head of a foreign leader, there can be no other conclusion than, TREASON AGAINST THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Barack Obama, every member of Congress demonstrating against Arizona and America by supporting President Calderon of Mexico have stated, in spirit, the despicable words, which I can't repeat, of Obama's previous spiritual mentor, Rev Jeremiah Wright...
Obama should be prosecuted for treason and every member of Congress that profaned their oaths must, at a minimum be removed from office on November 2, 2010.

I heard that Fox Creek will be changing the official name to Fix Creek after the election this coming Thursday.  As I remember, one of the folks who will be on the ballot was on the ballot several years ago and was duly elected under the bylaws in existence at the time which stated directors would be elected by a plurality of the vote.  This person was not allowed to be seated because the chairperson said that plurality really meant majority.  To assure that would not happen in the future, the bylaws were changed and approved to require a majority of votes cast.  Those are the bylaws currently on the school web site.  As I understand the rules for the election to be held this coming week, if no one gets a majority, then board members will be seated with a plurality. Now I guess majority means plurality, but only for a maximum of three since it is stated only a maximum of three will be seated.  If anyone is seated using the plurality rule, the board will again be violating their own bylaws.  However, it would be poetic justice to see that poor guy get seated using the plurality approach.  This gives a whole new meaning to "fixing to go vote".  Parents, have you had enough of this nonsense yet?  Vote for change or accept what you get for not voting.

Editor's note: The race for County Council District 3 is not included in the Primary elections. Since neither candidate has opposition in the race in their respective party they advance to the general election in November unopposed. Facts are always accurate.

RE:  Explain to me please, your POLICY SETTING, for firing the teacher with three weeks left on her contract…Did you ask her one question., NO you did not. Did you tell her you would not discuss it…YES, you did. WHO made that policy? The Policy setting board needs to tell the teacher why. Have they ever heard of WRONGFUL TERMINATION. How about BREACH OF CONTRACT? It sounds like you do not uphold policy setting rules. How do you think the little children feel to see a teacher crying. What you have done will be remembered forever for some of them. This was cruel, both the teacher and the little ones. It is unfortunate that we have this kind of power on the Board at Wardlaw.

WOW.  You must be real close to this teacher in order to know all that (if you are not the teacher to begin with).

As far as being fired at school, wrong, the teacher chose to come in and clean out her desk that morning in front of the children, all emotional and with husband in tow, knowing the effect it would have on children 4-5 years old. hmmm

If you want someone to "explain to me please", you need to address the Board personally, not in Wandering Minds.  But, unless you are in fact the teacher of topic, it isn't any of your business. (I know that struck a nerve.)  Would you want your employer to tell other people why, if they let you go?  All you know is what the teacher wants to tell you or gossip you hear.

The current situation on the Fox Creek elections is one of absolute proof of the politics involved at that school.  It is amazing the effort the current board members who did not get re-elected are expending to get their jobs back.  Three of those who did not get elected are current officers and are responsible for control of the existing flow of information from that facility.  Where are the board minutes on the school web site?  Every school board in the CSRA posts their minutes except Fox Creek. As for the interpretation of the current by-laws to say they only the top four vote getters that were not elected will be on the ballot, did the school attorney validate that decision?  Was the discussion of that topic held in an announced board meeting and in public? If discussions were held in Executive Session then the results are void since that is not a legal topic for a closed discussion.
If I had the money I would challenge the decision in court.  True leaders would open the ballot to anyone who meets the qualifications.  True leaders would have the best interest of the school in mind, not their own self-serving interests.  Parents, you sent a message in the last election and now you have the chance to finish the message.  This is not the time to think of "change you can believe in" but time to vote for "change you need". Go to the school and vote.  Simply write in the name of your favorite candidate and do not vote for those listed on the ballot. The way the current "rules of election" have been established, three of those listed on the ballot can not lose. According to Pelosi Bishop, if no one gets a majority, the the top three vote getters will be seated. This, by the way, is not spelled out in the by-laws so the current leadership continues to operate in a "make up the rules that we need to stay in power" decision making mode. They continue to use the sections of the bylaws they like but ignore other sections.  I did not get any write-in votes in the recent election so I am not asking for your vote and I have no ax to grind., I am just a taxpayer in Edgefield County and an observer of the action of that board for the past few years. Remember, teachers vote so many parents need to show up to counter their votes (which I suspect will be based on fear and innuendo about their jobs). Parents--VOTE FOR CHANGE

I know the teacher to whom you are referring.  My children have all been in her class.  She's a wonderful teacher in our opinion.  We are very fond of her.  We have expressed our sadness and our anger at her contract not being renewed, both to her and to the Board of Directors.

At the end of the day when tempers have calmed and rational thinking takes over we realize that the Board didn't walk into the classroom and fire her in front of the children.  They didn't ask her to leave in front of the children, nor did they ask her to clear our her things in front of the children.  Her contract was simply not renewed.  If she feels she's been wrongfully terminated or they've breached her contract a simple call to an attorney will set things in motion so she can prove her case.

It will not be settled here in the Wandering Minds.  Yes the children were upset to see her crying in the classroom.  We all were.  She chose her timing, no one else did it for her.

What  did Hoover, Truman, and Eisenhower have in common?  Here  is something that should be of great interest  for you to pass around.

Back  during The Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of ALL illegal aliens in order to make jobs available  to American citizens that desperately needed work..

Harry  Truman deported over two million Illegal's after WWII to create jobs for returning  veterans. And  then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower  deported 13 million Mexican Nationals! The  program was called 'Operation Wetback'. It was done so WWII and Korean Veterans would have a better  chance at jobs.  It took 2 Years, but they  deported them!

Now...if  they could deport the illegal's back then - they could sure do it today.   lf you have doubts about the veracity of this  information, enter Operation Wetback into your  favorite search engine and confirm it for yourself.

Reminder:  Don't forget to pay your taxes...  12 million Illegal Aliens are depending on you!

I will be glad to see Mr. "Chairman" Kneece gone at the end of this year.  His attitude is beyond appalling.  Work sessions that aren't work sessions.   Just more of the "pass my budget , don't question and for heavens sake don't think you have a right to the reserves where I got my money to give to Piedmont Tech and the Civic League".  Would someone wake him up and let him know his "budget" is the taxpayers money he is spending.  There happens to be 5 persons on that council and contrary to his belief they have just as much right to suggest spending the money as he does.   Personally I think having patrol cars in good working condition and ready to pursue a criminal at any given moment should come before the two he chose to spend our money on.  Maybe he hasn't kept up to date.  You know all the crime happening in the area.  Maybe we can send the criminals to the library and Piedmont Tech to get educated.  Now don't you feel good that in a year or two (after Mr. Kneece is gone) we will have to raise taxes to replace several cars along with who knows what else.  Are you feeling the shaft yet?  Hurry up election day.

Also, I would like to congratulate Coach David Bell and Coach Amanda Schneider and the young men and young ladies for their District Championships in baseball and softball. I am very proud to know these young ladies and men, along with their outstanding parents. The entire Edgefield community should know that these are truly student-athletes and some of the finest young leaders in our community. Again, congratulations to all of the winners at Fox Creek HS. Re: Moore Road work

I did not realize Moore Road was a State Road, but let me make myself a little clearer about the “Cacky Lacky” paving. Actually Lanham and Rainsford Roads are State roads as well. My comments were directed at all the roads in the county, not only the County maintained roads. The call for action to maintain the roads was a call to all of our county leaders and political representatives, not just the County Council for the county maintained roads. Whether it is county, state or federal funding behind the paving project, it comes down to all of us collectively supplying our hard earned tax dollars to these projects. I firmly believe the type of work done on Moore Road is a poor investment of those tax dollars.

While on the subject, I would like to commend Mr. Feagin and the Roads and Bridges crews for doing the best job possible with what they have and always expediting work as its needed or requested by the citizens of the county. I have had several interactions with this group over the years and it has always been a positive experience. They have just recently completed some extensive work in our area of the county and did a great job.

Be on the alert-the FCC is now wanting to regulate the Internet. This is a slippery slope for free speech. Mr. Obama has said he thinks there is too much information out there and that it is confusing for folks. You know we may not be smart enough to figure things out on out own. These all knowing people in the administration (who can't even take the time to read the AZ immigration bill) are so wise and wonderful that we just need to sit back and believe whatever they spew out at us. Mr. Obama said it is hard to know what is true and what is not. Duh! They don't want us to know the truth. That is what is scary to them-the American people are figuring out what is really going on and they are standing up to it. Funny how the Internet was great to use as an election too for Obama and crew. These recent elections are showing that true Americans want to take their country back. So far, Obama is 4-0 in his attempts to help candidates get elected. I can see why he is scared. We need to keep the information line open.

Nice try to claim being a "teacher". Nonetheless, there are a number of teachers in our school systems (you are not even in the Edgefield County system).

I was through with this topic until I saw your post and your coverup. Since you and I have such a personal relationship, and you have sent me private emails, I am purely sure that everyone knows that you know that I am a teacher. But as you said, I am not in Edgefield County system. But I have been. I really don't understand why you lose all sense of directions and decorum when you see my name. I only want you to think about what you say before saying it. If someone doesn't agree and bow down to you, they are automatically liberals. But since we do not want a dictatorship in America, surely you don't expect everyone to agree with you. Oh yeah, I kept all of my colorful emails from you. I love to meditate on them now and then. You have told your readers my position in the school system in other posts, you have told them that I am not in Edgefield County system anymore, and now the only thing left for you to do is print my name (of course it will be by accident). I realize that the poster is anonymous as long as that person agrees with you. If they do not agree, you spend all of your time trying to find their weakness. My weakness is wanting the truth to be told. Nothing more. You try to make me look ignorant, but guess what? My ignorance is not showing, neither do I hate you. I am still praying for you and my country.

Editor's note: Edgefield Daily will never reveal the name of any contributor of comments to the Wandering Minds. Your intentional misquote of my comment has been documented. Your comments are also documented. Perhaps you should sober up from the drunkenness of the Obama kool-aid before you go casting stones. Read the Editor's posts, not you "rendition" of the comments. I have received several emails and some Wandering Minds comments about the 2010 Census. Two are listed below.

We received mutliple Census forms in the mail. I wanted to fill one out with the name Osama Bin Laden and list 20 other members of the "family" residing at the home with one being Barry Sorento AKA Barack Hussein Obama II.

I figured with the current administration in the White House no one would ever come knocking and I would probably be sent forms to file for federal funds.

Dear Editor,
Subject: FCHS "runoff" election

SCE Super Rex       $92,007
Murph                     $99,206
Gov Sanford           $106,078

Murph tries to explain why the school is (my words, violating their bylaws yet again by) conducting what he insists is a runoff election on May 27th to fill the vacancies on the school’s board of directors.  He has to call it a runoff to explain why they are limiting the names on the ballot, “not because he’s fixing the vote, but to avoid yet another election”; after all, he has to pay two substitute teachers to oversee the polling area during elections.  Well, bravo, since HIS salary exceeds $99,000 a year with a built in 4% annual raise for the next three years, I guarantee they need to save money some kind of way – but the best way would be to cut him altogether, that’d probably solve their budget shortfalls.  ‘Course that’s not likely to happen given the close relationship he enjoys with the school board’s chair.  Hmmm, no wonder he’s working so hard to get her re-elected.  I wonder if the Edgefield County tax payers know how their money is being spent, after all this is NOT just an issue for the FCHS population!  Murph makes more money than state superintendent Rex, and just a little shy of Governor Sanford!!!  And hey, if you want to learn how to get your salary up, you can hire him to come speak, just visit www.timmurph.com.  How does he find the time, oh yeah, he’s never at the school – to earn that $99K.  Just how Sherolyn Bishop manages to stay on the board is what really baffles me, but for sure it’s NOT by legitimate means (in my opinion).  Have they EVER had a valid election???  If FCHS could rid themselves of the Bishops, the school’s reputation would soar, and deservedly so.  Truth be told, that’s what’s at the heart of their problems.

Editor's note: Two candidates I supported strongly were in the final running but were not selected. In my opinion, they have far more experience in matters dealing with the Magistrate Court and could have taken the bench far faster and with less training. But, I'm not Sen. Me and my wife have had run ins with census workers in the past month. We filled out that stupid form and mailed it back. Two weeks later they sent another one that we threw in the trash. two weeks later they show up at the door wanting to ask the same stupid questions. I told them "already done" and shut the door. They knocked again and I ignored them. They knocked a few more times and left. I guess a week or so later they came by and my wife was home alone and answered the door to find two men standing there claiming to be from the census. She did not feel comfortable and just told them we mailed the form in and shut the door and locked it and every other door in the house and called me. She was scared big time. How do we even know these are census workers and not somebody coming  to rob us or do God knows what?

Editor's note: All US Census workers will have a US Census Bureau ID that includes their name and picture which will be worn around their necks and have other official documentation by the US Census Bureau. If you feel uncomfortable you should call your local law enforcement agency. There are many scams by the lowlifes in our society posing as Census workers and there have even been crimes reported that involve Census workers.

A Google search of "census worker charged" brought 2.9 million stories including rape, burglary and rape, and a sex offender using an alias to get a job as a Census worker. That's your government at work. The same people protecting our borders to keep terrorists from entering are "protecting" you by making sure the people they send to your home (which in Edgefield County means a majority are rural homes) are upstanding citizens.

Am I a government worker? A government worker who feeds on the "wealth" of others is that really what you think teachers do? I do not believe anyone who teaches school feel like they are “sinking their bucket into the well of the individual’s hard earned wealth”. It nice to know that’s how you feel about teachers. Now I can understand your encouragement for posters to bash all the schools in Edgefield. Your opinion on the role teachers in society is really low. To you, "We are “government worker who feeds on the "wealth" of others, you feel there should be no end to the depth of which bureaucrats should be able to sink their bucket into the well of the individual's hard earned wealth”. The only thing I can say is, “you should see our paycheck every month”.

Editor's note: Nice try to claim being a "teacher". Nonetheless, there are a number of teachers in our school systems (you are not even in the Edgefield County system), who would raise the collective IQ of any class, including first grade, if removed from the classroom. A perfect example, county councilman Norman Dorn, the most ignorant man I have ever known, is a retired "school teacher". I rest my case. He, like you, is also drunk on the Obama koolaid.

Re: The individual who continues to bash the Wardlaw Board.

I believe it's now time for you to write a "Letter to the Editor" friend.  Your "Board Bashing" has taken on a very personal tone, one that has been going on for several months now.  In your latest "rant' you fault the board for doing exactly what they are mandated to do..... set policy.  In addition, the Board should be making day to day business decisions, at least until the new Headmaster is present and brought up to speed. While I, nor anyone will ever know your identity as long as you use this valuable resource, it's not hard to tell by your writing style and the continued mention of Mr. Faust which "rants" are yours.

And by that style, it's easy to see that the Boards decisions have effected you very personally.  After the series of letters you've sent to "Wandering Minds" I've become convinced that you are simply "grinding an ax" with the Board, more so than being truly concerned about the direction of the school.  Often times we find ourselves at a point in our lives where we must make tough decisions in order to achieve what we feel is the right thing.  My advice to you is to discontinue hiding behind this cloak of anonymity, write a letter to not only the Editor of Edgefield Daily but send copies to each and every Board member.  Otherwise, all the ranting in the world won't change a thing.

The fix is in. Sherolyn Bishop was booted from the Board of Directors (Fox Creek Charter School) and Danny (Bishop) said they needed to change the rules so she could stay on even though she wasn’t elected!! The Bylaws say a special election has to take place but now the “board” led by none other than Bishop is ruling she gets to stay on and no election will be held! Is this legal? How can they do that?

Editor’s note: I have received several similar comments and have read the Bylaws on the school website. I see no way that the board can overrule a process spelled out in detail.

According to Mrs. Bishop’s own release featured on the school website, the special election must be held, including write-in candidates, not just those receiving the top votes in the general election process. The school website has a run-off election slated for Thursday May 27.

As I see the vote totals, one of the three write-in candidates could suggest their supporters split their vote for the other two top write-ins which would give them majority votes over the incumbents. It seems a majority voted against the status quo than voted for it.

Re: Bashing of Wardlaw Board

The main reason my letter was published through the Wandering Minds and not in a public letter to the Editor is because I'm not the one that continues to complain about the Board.  It takes courage to make change, not a bashing campaign, under which that person is too scared to give their identity.  My problem isn't with the Board Members of Wardlaw, therefore my letter wasn't sent to them or to the Editor.  My problem is with the individual or individuals who continue to act like scared sheep, running off at the mouth through this forum, all the while thinking it will cause change at the school.

In addition, there's a difference between making your point once and the continued bashing that the person I directed my letter towards has done.  Honestly, do you think that the continued criticism of the Board through the Wandering Minds forum will bring about change?  Furthermore, if the posts were by different individuals I wouldn't have a problem with it, but the writers style and continued mention of "Mr. Trace Faust" and "what a man of honor he is" reveals the writers personality.  Not by name of course but by style, just as my writing does.

I'm sure Mr. Faust is a man of honor but many times in life we find ourselves at odds with those who employee us. I commend Mr. Faust for standing up for his principles and walking away when he saw his vision for Wardlaw being changed.  That, is what I consider courage, the kind that forces change.  I would also add that in the past I have sent posts to the Wandering Minds in which I signed my name.  You see, my ability to make a living here in Edgefield County isn't determined by a single person who actually lives here. Therefore, anonymity is of no importance to me.  Still, I do consider the Wandering Minds to be a valuable resource for those individuals who's checks are signed by someone that lives in Edgefield County, for those who fear political or personal retribution.

Myself, more than most understand the power of the written word.  However, real change doesn't come in the form of hiding behind a keyboard.  Real change takes courage, the kind where you decide to step forward and put yourself at risk if need be.  We've already seen a failed attempt here in the County to make changes with our School Board because individuals were too scared to sign their names on petitions or to simply speak out.  Let it be a lesson that the only time we achieve greatness is when we choose to give up something great in return.  You decide what you want to give up in return for change at Wardlaw.

I agree with the poster concerning the work done on Moore Road. It seems a total waste of funds to spray a little tar on the road and then drizzle a little gravel over it. This same “improvement” method, which I call “Cackylacky pavin”, was performed on Lanham Road. The result – a road that looks pretty good but will beat your molars out. Many, many other roads in the county, such as Rainsford Road for example, are in terrible shape. This road is one of the few roads that gives those in the lower central and western areas of the county access to Highway 25. The other is Stephens Road – no explanation really needed but how in the world did this road ever get paved before being made safe!?

I hope that our other ailing roads don’t get the same useless treatment. I would prefer one mile of new asphalt to fifty miles of “Cackylacky pavin”.  I have on occasion talked of how our county roads are reverting to wagon trails, believe me it’s coming unless the powers that be and the budgeteers start thinking straight and put some dollars into infrastructure. I have heard the C-fund explanations and I am not interested in budget or political games – County leaders take care of our infrastructure or the county will suffer the consequences.

That may happen if it's God's will. You believe that God has control over everything you deem correct. If it doesn't suit you then you refuse to face the fact that God is still in control. In my post, I mentioned that what we are facing now has been faced before. Hoover came in and against all oppositions spent the federal government money to support the economy until America could rebuild during the Great Depression. We were in a great, great, great, DEPRESSION. And just as our forefathers did in 1938, our President and the Congress are doing today. Whether Democrats or Republicans, money will have to be spent to support the economy. My problem is that I know there are intelligent people out there who knows this to be true. But they would rather place doubts and distrust in America's people before admitting that the country is on the right path. These are the same people who went after Clinton while housing their girlfriends and boyfriends, and cheating on their wives during the same time. They are the same ones who divorced their wives for younger women. They are the ones who stood flat-footed and lied about who attacked us on 9/11. They are the ones who even now is promoting fear and mistrust of our elected leaders.

One thing about the Tea Party Movement: They want Democrats and Republicans incumbents out. So my question is - "After the election is over and it doesn't work out the way you envisioned, what will you do?"

Editor's note: Obviously you do not understand the principles of our government. Government does not create or generate "wealth". It confiscates it from those who create it. It is easy to spend someone else's money, not your own. Government does not "support" the economy, it hampers it with regulations, taxation, and unfunded mandates.

Of course, as a government worker who feeds on the "wealth" of others, you feel there should be no end to the depth of which bureaucrats should be able to sink their bucket into the well of the individual's hard earned wealth.

The backlash the Democrats are seeing because of Obama's Socialist agenda that they have rammed down the throats of Americans cannot be ignored. You can whine and complain all you want. The fact is "America" is striking back.

I have no doubt on how the elections will turn out. Even the Democrats admit they are doomed. You are way behind the learning curve. Figures, liberal government workers can't see the reality American's face earning the money to pay your salary. If you were in the private sector you would be the first to be fired. No wonder you love "government", it protects those who do not have to produce results to get paid.

After the county council voted down the Animal Ordinance, I find myself questioning the humanity of those that voted ‘no’.   Disregard for the welfare of our pets & animals in this county is not only alarming but truly reflects poorly on the caliber of people that have been elected to care for our county.  There is no excuse for this ordinance to have been voted down.  I know there are state laws that are supposed to help & protect animals, but our county seems to pick & choose which ones to enforce.  If we that call Edgefield County home care at all about our pets & animals, it needs to be reflected in how we vote.  Please seriously consider how you vote & the consequences of it.  I feel that the animals that are mistreated, neglected, abused or abandoned need to have someone step up to speak for them.  It will take every person that votes to keep them in mind.  If not, their plight will never change & the suffering will continue.

Voting this Animal Ordinance down for no legitimate reason speaks loudly of your character.  I can only hope that the ones that voted you into office will now vote you out!

Editor's note: County Council members Ashcraft and Blackwell were the only two to vote in favor of the ordinance.

Is it true that Carolina First will be taken over by T-D Bank, a Canadian Bank?  I understand the main reason given is bad loans.  Did not Carolina First have bad loans to individuals and corporations located within Edgefield County?  Did citizens of Edgefield County and surrounding counties help bring about the downfall of Carolina First?   If so, were the bad loans that resulted in foreclosures ever settled or did the bank (share holders and citizens) have to eat the debt, including bail out funds?

Carolina First is and has been a major player in Edgefield County.  I am saddened by this announcement, if it is true.  Maybe Edgefield Daily can find out if this is true.

Editor's note: I am checking deeper into the information. TD Bank reportedly bought out Southern Financial for $191m, based mainly in Florida. I have not been able to confirm that purchase included Carolina First.

Re: God help us, because the Federal Government and Obama sure isn't going to do it.
You ask for God help, but you really don’t want His help. If you did, there would be more people on their knees and less bashing of our leaders. And what did the Federal Government and Obama do to you - nothing but HELP. For people to say they love America but doesn’t know America’s history really scares me. Remember, nothing new under the sun. Believe it or not we have been here before. In 1938, Roosevelt was afraid to spend federal government money to stop the recession. Hubert Hoover was elected during the great depression. The first thing he did was to use federal government to take care of the people until the economy could build back up. Through soup lines, WPA, and work projects funded by the government, the country was able to survive. It has been estimated that what he spent would add up to 10 trillion dollars in today’s society. But Hoover believed the government should be there for the people and funds use to help
the American people. Along with federal spending and the war, America was able to rebuild their economy. It’s 2010. The cost of saving our economy would naturally be much higher than it was during Hoover’s time. You have a President who will not waver for public approval or party favors. His focus is on protecting the American people during these times.
Why not follow the Bible’s instructions in 1 Timothy 2:1 – 4: Pray for your leaders. Do you really want God help? If so, start praying. Pray for God to lead and protect those He gave leadership positions. Pray that our President will continue to use wisdom and understanding when facing the problems of America. Pray that God will forgive America for its hypocrisy. Face the fact: Money became America’s god. All moral values and ideas were cast aside for the almighty dollar. But He did say in 2 Chronicles 7:14 the following: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Pray for healing!!!!

Editor's note: Obama and the Democrats have placed the US on a path of bankruptcy. If that is "helping" we sure don't need any enemies. Don't worry, the prayers of Americans will be answered in November when the Democrats are voted out in droves.

I think he is a fine and well meaning young fellow but I disagree with several of the things he said when we talked. I agree that recreation is important but it is not the most important thing in our county. He told me he supported the Calliham purchase because it was good for Edgefield. I do not want my county councilman making decisions based on what is good for Edgefield I want him to be focused on what is good for the entire district and the county. Mr. Mims wanted to tell me about all the things Mr. Ashcraft had done wrong over the past year. I happen to agree with most of what Mr. Ashcraft had done and will be voting for him next month. I found Mr. Mims to be well coached on talking points but he was at a loss when I asked him the important questions about our county. Mr. Ashcraft has always answered my questions and has provided me with more information than I wanted on any subject I inquired about during the past year. I read (Below) with great happiness the results of the Fox Creek board election.  It appears that the parents are finally ready to see some changes at that school.  There have been several elections in the past where Sheroyn "Pelosi" Bishop almost did not win.  And the current "tell me what to say and how to vote members" Mason and Huffman were sent a strong signal also.  It was interesting to see three write candidates gather the votes they did.  I hope parents would elect these three, get the board to seven members and then operate in a fully open and transparent manner. It would also be nice to know how much sleep the Smruph got since his protectors were not elected to the board at this election.
Parents, be prepared for numerous phone calls from some folks telling you how important it is to elect some of the existing members or the school will end up in deep trouble. NOT true.  It is time for change at Fox Creek and parents are in charge of that change.  And to refute the comments of those that will say this was written by someone actively involved with the school, that is not true.

Apparently the Board is intent on scuttling the ship before it gets very far from port. A case in point, the recent firing of a lower school teacher with only a 3 weeks left in the school year and for NO apparent reason. If that wasn't bad enough, the firing took place on the morning of a school day. Parents and children were already arriving. These people have an agenda and they don't care who gets hurt. They are arrogant, self absorbed and tactless beyond belief. Pretty soon there will be no crew left. Teachers must be terrified that a board member's whim might make them the next one to get the axe. Nice thought, great for morale, right? I fear more of the wonderful staff will disappear before next year, possibly before the end of this year. Who could blame them. Working for tyrants is never a good situation and definitely not conducive to providing a quality education for our children.
What a doggone shame to see a fine school destroyed in front of our eyes by a group of selfish elitists for their own personal desires and gain.

90 votes were cast in this year’s Board of Directors elections requiring a minimum vote of 46 to win a position on next year’s board.  However, only 4 candidates met that requirement.   As the by-laws require a board of directors with a minimum of 7 members and a maximum of 13, a special election must be held to correct the deficit 3 positions, (but as many as 9 new members could be elected).  The current board will meet to approve terms for the next election which will be published as soon as they are available.

Congratulations to HURT, ALEXANDER, BAKER and NAPIER for a successful election

Concerning illegal immigration- What is it that people do not get about breaking the law? If you break the laws to get to the U.S., why is it so difficult to understand that there should be a consequence to that action?  In most cases, when someone breaks other laws they go to jail. What a novel thought. Mexico has very tough border control on their southern border. Funny isn't it that they have a totally different attitude about their northern border? This administration was worried about what the Mexican government would think about the AZ legislation. Excuse me?????

This is a political issue. The administration only wants these folks' votes. That is why amnesty is in the play right now. Arizona is just enforcing national law that has been ignored. It has been so misrepresented by the liberals and their media. Anyone who has lived in a state that is highly impacted by illegals knows the situation the best. The majority of Arizona residents support this legislation. The immigration laws should be followed. It is not fair to the people who have come here legally to have illegals jump in line ahead of them in line. That is not what this country is about.

Editor's note: I love the way the left and the media have framed the issue. It's just these poor Mexicans that just want a better life. Wrong. It is a matter of National Security. If Mexicans can come over the border by the millions, how many members of the Taliban can do the same? Or better yet, how many already have? It is the same as inviting the Germans to walk across our borders during WW2. How anyone cannot see that is beyond belief.  It is a sad day when America is worried about not offending our enemies over protecting our citizens in the name of "political correctness".

God help us, because the Federal Government and Obama sure isn't going to do it. That is what they hate about the law in Arizona. Arizona is going to enforce the federal laws already on the books.

1. Councilman Ashcraft was not at the event nor did he he any signs placed along the roadway. (I guess that would explain why Mims' signs were the only one targeted.)

I'm Sick of  "Inherited"

The Washington Post babbled again  today about Obama inheriting a huge deficit from Bush, blah  blah blah.  Amazingly enough, a lot of people swallow  this nonsense. So once more, I'll try a short civics  lesson.

Budgets do not get approved by the  White House.  They  are passed only by CONGRESS and  the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the  Democratic Party..  They controlled the budget process  for FY 2008 and FY 2009, as well as FY 2010 and FY 2011.   In that first year, they had to contend with George  Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush  somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.  For  FY 2009, though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George  Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep  government running until Barack Obama could take office.   At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending  bill to complete the FY 2009 budgets.

And where was Barack Obama during this  time?  He was a member of that very Congress that passed  all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus  bill as President to complete FY 2009.
Let's remember what  the deficits looked like during that  period:

If  the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the FY 2007  deficit, the last of the Republican budgets.  That  deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight  decline in deficit spending.    After that, Democrats in   Congress took control of spending, and that includes  Barack Obama, who voted for those budgets.  If Obama  inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.  In a nutshell,  what Obama is  saying is: I inherited a deficit that I voted  for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since  January 20th.

Gonorrea-Lectem
Additional Information about Gonorrhea Lectem… The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new virulent strain of this old disease. The disease is called Gonorrhea Lectem. It is pronounced "Gonna re-elect 'em." The disease is contracted through dangerous and high-risk behavior involving putting your cranium up your rectum. Many victims contracted it in 2008, but now most, after having been infected for the past 1 to 2 years, are starting to realize how destructive this sickness is.  It is sad because Gonorrhea Lectem is easily cured with a new drug just coming on the market called Votemout. You take the first dose in 2010 and the second dose in 2012 and simply do not engage in such behavior again; otherwise, it could become permanent and eventually wipe out all life as we know it.  Several states are already on top of this, like Virginia , New Jersey , and Massachusetts , with many more seeing the writing on the wall.

Seems like the Callihams have trouble on all fronts.  Note to Mrs. Calliham (since you don't seem to take personal phone calls seriously)...if your brown pit bull chases my car one more time, jumps up on it and scratches it AGAIN, I will take legal action.  How you can allow them to be in the road and unsafe is beyond belief; and you say it's no big deal, that they won't get hit.  This is not only animal cruelty it's total disregard for other people and their property...cars AND the neighbor's yards they tear up.

Editor's note: It is illegal to allow pets to run at large. You can call the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office (803-637-5337) to file a report and they can issue a warning or a ticket to the offending party.

That was not an opinion. That was misrepresentation of the truth, better known as a bunch of lies. The poster was counting on people not taking the time to follow the link. That post was no wandering of the minds. It was a bunch of crap. You do not use quotation marks when you are publishing lies that has nothing to do with the article you are featuring. re:Editor's post: Funny how the Democrats who want to do away with “Don’t ask don’t tell” on gays in the military go apoplectic wanting to enforce an illegal immigration “don’t’ ask don’t tell”

in opposition to The article I read does not support the stand you have taking against the Democrats and our President. The following paragraphs came from the above article.
“As for Mr. Obama, he is now in the same position as President George W. Bush, who also campaigned in 2000 and 2004 on a promise to pass a legalization bill. Mr. Bush encouraged bipartisan negotiations in the Senate in 2006 and 2007, but neither effort led to Congress approving a bill.

Marc R. Rosenblum, a senior policy analyst for the Migration Policy Institute, who was on Mr. Obama's immigration policy team during the presidential transition, said the president is working with all sides, but, like Mr. Bush, Mr. Obama has not found a winning coalition of 60 senators needed to overcome a certain filibuster.”
Strangely, when President Bush was facing the same problems you didn’t complain. The double elections (2000, 2004) Hispanic voters supported President George W. Bush. It went from 36% to 44% and upwards. His brother is married to a Latino. And even now Jeb Bush along with other reasonable citizens of America (Republicans and Democrats) is not so much against the law, but what the law may allow an overzealous officer to do to innocent people who are here legally.

Editor's note: My comment was not about the article, it was about the issue of illegal aliens crossing our borders. I stand by my observation.

Before I make my point, let me say how sorry I am for the young girl that wrecked Friday and was very badly injured. While putting up guard rails on the road is not a bad idea, if people would just slow down most on the accidents could be avoided. I was coming home Friday and when I turned left at the red light on highway 25 the young lady was so close to my bumper that I could hardly see her hood. She stayed on my bumper all the way down Sweetwater Rd.  I was driving at 50mph and approaching a hill, curve and a double yellow line when she passed me at a very high rate of speed. Less than a minute latter she lost control of her car and wrecked.
The guard rails are not  a cure for coming sense of just slowing down. Young people please tell your friends to slow down to avoid future accidents like this. Life goes by fast enough so slow down and be around a little longer to enjoy life.
Again, I am so sorry for this young girl and her family.

It doesn't surprise me one bit that Mrs. Calliham threatened you over something that was obviously caused by the Calliham's themselves.  After making a purchase from their "business" I was swept under the rug when there were problems with the item.  I also learned that you cannot believe what they are saying; the manufacturer tells a completely different story than they do.  If I need service, it will definitely not be from Calliham's.  And making another purchase there will never be an option.  My opinion is that they should retire and leave retail to people who really care.

I did not post the article, but I too read the link and I figured that since wandering minds is for opinions, the poster was expressing their opinion about the article. I didn't see any quotation marks in their post. If someone posts a link, I would imagine they would hope people would read it. There very well could be serious implications from the actions that are being suggested here.  We do not need the world telling us what to do. We have done well as a nation for many years, that is until recently. Maybe the fact finder needs to search out all the facts.

People do not look beyond the surface of a lot of what is going on these days. That is why we are in the mess we are in. Remember Obama saying he was going to fundamentally change this country? That gave me chills when he said that. Many people cheered for that until they have seen what he really meant by that. Now they are regretting their support of him because he really has fundamentally changed this great country. Now he is speaking out against having too much confusing information out there in the media, talk radio and the internet. He says people will not be able to know what is true or not. Does that make anyone else get chills? Is he the only source of "truth"? Think about it.

Listen carefully to what this administration is saying and watch carefully what they are doing. They really do want to fundamentally change this country and is not for the good of the people.

Note that she is not the only person that has had an accident in that exact place. I myself know two people personally that have been seriously enjured there, as a matter of fact, their vehicles also hit the same pine tree. I would just like to know if there is any way that i could get some help in putting this matter to attention and out to the public. Im doing everything I can to try and help make that a safer spot on sweetwater road. If you can do anything or know anyone I can contact about this proposal please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated by not only me but many others also. A United States Marine was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan . One of the courses had a professor who was an avowed atheist and a member of the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in looked up to the ceiling and flatly stated, 'God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes.' The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop.

Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, 'Here I am God. I'm still waiting.' It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him, knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold!

The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked, stunned, and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, 'What the heck is the matter with you? Why did you do that?' The Marine calmly replied, 'God was too busy today protecting American soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act like an idiot. So, He sent me.'

Editor's post: The Wandering Minds has been cut short tonight due to the late hour and a very important trail that will get underway today. As such a number of comments have been held over.

However, I cannot let a phone call from Selina Calliham go unmentioned.

She called me today making threats and demanding that the Editor's Column on the trash they were placing on county property be "retracted". She claimed that "others" were placing the trash there and they were having to remove it at their cost. She even claimed that the same people filled their dumpster with trash. (Funny, not a single police report supporting that claim has been filed)

She might want to peek her head outside the building long enough to see the trash coming from the white pickup truck that has Calliham's printed on the side. If she needs, I can give her pictures and a long list of witnesses (including law enforment officers) who see the same thing taking place.

Maybe if the Calliham's had paid their bills they would not have been forced into a public sale of the property under a foreclosure as well as a tax sale for unpaid property taxes in the first place. And she wants the threaten me over their trash on county property when we overpaid for the junky old store we didn't need in the first place? I welcome the chance to defend my opinions.

Please, the Callihams are basically getting government subsidized housing for their business as no rent is being charged to them in that dump of a building. I guess that might as well be the case since they didn't pay the taxes or their bills anyway.

They don't foreclose on property if you pay your bills nor do they put the property up for sale for unpaid taxes if you are doing what other reputable businesses do on a daily basis. Oh I forgot, your business got left off the tax sale mysteriously.

Under the sale agreement the county loses property taxes on the building (same as PTC) yet the Town of Edgefield gets their business license fees. There again, the Town of Edgefield wins and the County gets the shaft in the deal Mayor Durham and Bettis Raisford supported.

Funny how those names keep popping up over and over isn't it?

Mrs. Calliham, I have been threatened by far more powerful people than you. Please move to the back of the line.

Re:  Obama banning all weapons (Reuters article)
Here is how I fact checked this post: Here is the link that was provided by the poster - http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSTRE59E0Q920091015

Check the text of the link, vs. the text of what the person posted here.  You will notice, only the first two paragraphs are the same.

This means that the person took something from a source, namely Reuters (that should be credible) - copied the first two paragraphs and then proceeded to completely re-write the article.  Whoever posted this is flat out lying and trying to portray that link as something it is not.

The phrase "Obama Took the First Major Step in a Plan to Ban All Firearms in the United States" IS NOT IN THE ARTICLE ANYWHERE.................. he/she made that up.  They are trying to pull the wool over your eyes, and accepting you to believe it.  Read the link above if you don't believe me.
The paragraph:
"On Wednesday Obama Took the First Major Step in a Plan to Ban All Firearms in the United States . The Obama administration intends to force gun control and a complete ban on all weapons for US citizens through the signing of international treaties with foreign nations. By signing international treaties on gun control, the Obama administration can use the US State Department to bypass the normal legislative process in Congress. "

Does not exist in the Reuters article - Poster - "You lie".

Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed +406 points today, after the European Union approved a "bailout".  The most that it has ever gained in one day in the 28 years of my life.

Obama is nowhere nearly as dangerous as people who lie to you to try to get to vote for their guys (Republicans).

I guess Republicans are to the point of desperation.  Pretty sad.

Editor's note: I will agree with your information, but not your premise. Obama cannot take anyone's guns away. No treaty is binding unless approved by Congress. That is until he can replace one more SCOTUS judge. The Court barely uphled the Second Amendment on a 5-4 vote in June of 2008. Read that again, the Supreme Court was divided on whether or not to uphold the Second Amendment of the original US Constitution. The very document they are to judge all laws passed by Congress on as to their constitutionality. Yet they were "divided" on one of the original Bill of Rights?

God help us if liberal Democrats take over the SCOTUS too.

U.S.  reverses stance on treaty to regulate arms trade
The Full Article Here:
http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSTRE59E0Q920091015

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States reversed policy on Wednesday and said it would back launching talks on a treaty to regulate arms sales as long as the talks operated by consensus, a stance critics said gave every nation a veto.

The decision, announced in a statement released by the U.S. State Department, overturns the position of former President George W. Bush's administration, which had opposed such a treaty on the grounds that national controls were better.

On Wednesday Obama Took the First Major Step in a Plan to Ban All Firearms in the United States . The Obama administration intends to force gun control and a complete ban on all weapons for US citizens through the signing of international treaties with foreign nations. By signing international treaties on gun control, the Obama administration can use the US State Department to bypass the normal legislative process in Congress.

Once the US Government signs these international treaties, all US citizens will be subject to those gun laws created by foreign governments. These are laws that have been developed and promoted by organizations such as the United Nations and individuals such as George Soros and Michael Bloomberg. The laws are designed and intended to lead to the complete ban and confiscation of all firearms.

The Obama administration is attempting to use tactics and methods of gun control that will inflict major damage to our 2nd Amendment before US citizens even understand what has happened. Obama can appear before the public and tell them that he does not intend to pursue any legislation (in the United States) that will lead to new gun control laws, while cloaked in secrecy, his Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton is committing the US to international treaties and foreign gun control laws.

Does that mean Obama is telling the truth? What it means is that there will be no publicized gun control debates in the media or votes in Congress. We will wake up one morning and find that the United States has signed a treaty that prohibits firearm and ammunition manufacturers from selling to the public.

We will wake up another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that prohibits any transfer of firearm ownership. And then, we will wake up yet another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that requires US citizens to deliver any firearm they own to the local government collection and destruction center or face imprisonment.

This is not a joke nor a false warning. As sure as government health care will be forced on us by the Obama administration through whatever means necessary, so will gun control. Please forward this message to others who may be concerned about the direction in which our country is headed.

The United States added 290,000 jobs in April, the most in four years.  In the article you will note that 32,000 were private sector jobs, and non-farm payrolls are expected to have risen by 185,000 jobs (many of these jobs were in the service industry).  The remaining 73,000-ish jobs were temporary census workers.

(Article from MarketWatch.com - a publication of the Wall Street Journal)

While Wikipedia is not used for research purposes (yet) - it is pretty widely used and moderated for topics that are considered general knowledge (such as American History).

Editor's note: Even with the a hundred thousand jobs added to the Government payrolls (Census, IRS, ect) the unemployment rate climbed to 9.9% over the present 9.7%. Yeah, some recovery. Re:  Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac
Here is Wikipedia's article on Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac, let me highlight one line:

Under History, you can read about what happened after Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were created (during the Great Depression under FDR). When created (in 1938), they were "government owned" entities.  The article notes "In 1968, the government converted Fannie Mae into a ***private shareholder-owned corporation*** in order to remove its activity from the annual balance sheet of the federal budget."

Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac were PRIVATELY OWNED from 1968-2007, until the sub-prime mortgage crisis.

Read the section labeled "Change in ownership structure September 7, 2008" - this explains when they were "confiscated" by the Federal Government.

Just another example of how the private sector has severely dropped the ball in the last 10 years.

GO PRIVATE SECTOR GOOOO BABY!!!!!  CAPITALISM baby!!!  DRILL BABY DRILL baby!!!

Editor's note: The information is incorrect. Fannie and Freddie have always been quasi-goverment/private banks. Had they not been so, they would have not been able to issue worthless loans to those who could never repay the loans at the demand of the government (started by Carter and put on steroids by Clinton) to be packaged and sold on the open market as bundled assets.

The Republicans, and the SEC, recognized the fraud the Democrats runing the show were creating as far back as the 1990's and warned of the danager. Now the Democrats want to stand back and blame the Republicans for the mess. Here is Barney Frank in 2005 rebuffing those very claims saying there is no "bubble" being created by Fannie and Freddie. By the way, they have asked for an additional $10.6 Billion dollar bailout on top of the billions they have already received.

Wiki has also reported Rush Limbaugh dead and several conservative figures as members of hate groups, only to have to come back later and recant those false claims.

Seems like Mr. Rainsford has continued his 100% track record of running every business he's ever been involved in, straight into the ground. King Midas in reverse.

The THREE LOSERS on the council planned for the animal cruelty ordinance to fail.  You know Boss Hog and Piglet can't let Mr. Ashcraft be recognized for doing anything positive.  No way.  They can only make sure he is written about in a negative way about Piedmont Tech in that sorry disgrace of a newspaper called the Edgefield Advertiser.  People such as Mayor Durham and Bettis Rainsford are scared when someone asks questions and has good ideas.  They want everyone in the dark so they can keep their power and their corrupt ways.

The President of Piedmont Tech (Brooks) said that we should have a mileage for Piedmont Tech.  Mr. Ashcraft spoke in detail about how much that would cost the citizens.  At this same time Mr. Brooks said that some may ask how much an education costs but others ask what is the price of ignorance.  Sounds like he wasn't happy about Mr. Ashcraft educating the public.  Now I ask you the voters, what is cost of honesty and integrity in your county representative?  Priceless!

Just wondering whether any of the Bettis Academy sports funds were used to build the nice new building Mt. Canaan Church now has?? Do you have any information??

Editor's note: The church took out a mortgage on the entire church property to secure the loan according to the last documents I saw when the project got underway. I do not know if that has changed as it has been some time since I last checked records at the RMC office. The church and the association are two different entities. We do not know where the funds from the concession stand are going because it has never been stated on the record.

Well, the Obama administration is at it again -still, I should say.  Claiming they stopped the New York City bombing attempt, and their system is working.  Guess they couldn't see the smoke coming out of the vehicle when the firecrackers went off.  If it was not for the stupidity of the terrorist in making his bomb, it would have exploded.  Thanks should only go to the citizen who noticed the vehicle illegally parked.    Just another example of the lies they are telling the American public.  If it wasn't so sad I would have laughed when they made that claim.  Fox News reported this lie.  And where was the national media when this broke?  Sucking up to the administration as usual.  Wake up America.

Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.

"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal
Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave." http://www.libertymind.com/

While political activists on the other side of the spectrum have made similar observations, Rossiter boasts professional credentials and a life virtually free of activism and links to "the vast right-wing conspiracy."

For more than 35 years he has diagnosed and treated more than 1,500 patients as a board-certified clinical psychiatrist and examined more than 2,700 civil and criminal cases as a board-certified forensic psychiatrist. He received his medical and psychiatric training at the University of Chicago.

Rossiter says the kind of liberalism recently displayed by the two major candidates for the Democratic Party presidential nomination can only be understood as a psychological disorder.

"A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity as liberals do," he says. "A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation's citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state as liberals do."

Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization; satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation; augmenting primitive feelings of envy; rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.

"The roots of liberalism and its associated madness can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."

I was amazed that the animal cruelty ordinance was voted down. What are these people thinking? Do they support mistreating animals? Is this another way for DEMONcrats to try to coddle their supporters like Michael Vick because we don't understand the "black culture thang" of dog fighting? I was equally surprised to see (Magistrate) Brenda Carpenter stand up against it too! If I read the story right (County Councilman) Ashcraft said the ordinance mimics the state law. Isn't she sworn to uphold that law? What's her beef in this? Can you shed some light on the why and whatfor?

Editor's note: Not really. I have my ideas and feel it was a set up to make sure the ordinance fell long before it was brought up for a vote. I noticed the little "Okay" signal from the far left hand side of the bench after Judge Carpenter finished her comments.

I found it curious and telling.

What is the Board doing at Wardlaw? They are going to ruin a good school for their own agenda. As a parent of children that go there you better open your eyes. Whenever you have your Headmaster that is already planning to retire after this school year leave in mid stream something is going on! Then you have the Chairman of the Board to resign. We are talking about Trace Fault, a man of honor. This Board is out for what they want and they will not let anyone stand in their way! This includes changing by-laws, hiring, firing, or etc, whatever it takes to get what they want. As far as judging the new headmaster, why shouldn’t he be judged? He is judging people he does not even know! He came in and did not renew contracts on people he does not even know! You know how he did it because he had the Board telling him who to keep and let go! The Board has been working on this for over a year now! That is why they have been electing their own kind to the Board. They had an agenda they are making sure it happens! They have hired a headmaster they know they can control!!! As far as the saying “pointing a finger at someone else and three are pointing back at you” that is good advice for them. When you can judge people and not even know them or the kind of job they are doing that is wrong! Then who does the Board get to give them legal advice – Michael Medlock! Come on!!! That should tell you something. I can’t wait to see who this Board hires to replace the ones they have fired! I agree change is good, but when people are making changes to suit their needs – then it is wrong. When it is done just because they want it that is wrong! Yea, look at the changes made in our public education system – do you see where they are headed? At least right now at Wardlaw you get a good education, if they keep on you want even be able to get that. People you better stop all this other crap that is going on!

Did I misunderstand?  Did the minister from Mt. Canaan Association say that the group decided their mission was to provide recreation for the community and now they expanded that mission to include all the county and beyond?  So Mt. Canaan chose their mission and the taxpayers of Edgefield County are paying for it.  Mt. Canaan is providing the land and we are paying for all the improvements and the upkeep?  Shouldn't we have bought the land or chosen property the county already owns, put in the improvements and provide the upkeep and at the end of the day the citizens would have increased the value of  county property rather than something we don't own?  Can the county get grants for property it doesn't own?

Mr. Bright says it would cost a lot of money to buy the land.  Yeah now that taxpayers have improved it.  We are in tough economic times and need to start looking at where our money is spent and what we are getting in return. How many people inside or outside of that community are even using the park?  Continuing to pour money down a never ending drain doesn't make sense to me.  Too bad we can't roll up our concrete and move it.  I guess we could get some value out of that $60,000 concession stand we bought.  How much are we paying to run the programs?  I do not understand why anything other than county services have a millage on our taxes.  I'm with you Mr. Dorn I do not see why recreation is held above education in importance. We need change.

In response to the posters who are concerned about the high number of criminals and sex offenders living in Edgefield county...you should be concerned. First, I encourage readers to take the time to look carefully at the Edgefield county sex offender list and see where these scum bags live in proximity to you. You may be surprised. Legally, sex offenders should be nowhere near a school or any other location where there are youth. But, the local law enforcement does not keep track of these scum bags for whatever reason. Also, don't be surprised the school system seems confused about the legalities concerning sex offenders wandering school property. After all, the school system is managed by some people who probably have lots of relatives familiar with the legal system. Where is our good sheriff's responsibility to ensure these sex offenders are kept away from law abiding folk? If ever a sex offender wants to live under the legal radar, then Edgefield  County is such a place. Unfortunately, Edgefield county is at the mercy of a Sheriff who is more concerned about being reelected than offending his political base. Ever meet the Sheriff? Ever talk to the Sheriff? Ever see the Sheriff in your neighborhood? I rest my case. What to do? Buy big guns, be on the watch for criminal scum bags in your neighborhood, and protect your property. Since Obama was elected, crime across this country has risen and Edgefield county is no exception. It appears criminals believe Obama will protect them..to include Edgefield county. Time to take back our country and our county. See you at the voting booth.

Editor's note: I have checked into this particular situation and found that the sex offender in question was at the school because (he/she) has a child attending the school. There is no law preventing the person from visiting the school for functions and/or (his/her) child.

If you wish to see changes in the law you should seek out your state representatives for a change in the laws, not the Sheriff.

Recently I had the opportunity to speak with a friend, who informed me how Edgefield County School District is up to its ears in “AmeriCorps.”  I’ve always had my reservations about this program because of its “paramilitary” appearance (like spinoff program, City Year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Bi8UGXxsFw), like our military, members take an oath, but unlike our military, its not to our Constitution…AmeriCorps specifically fought against that type of oath.  Anyway, upon researching AmeriCorps and Edgefield County, sure enough the much lauded “Success by Ten” is an AmeriCorps project.  Edgefield County Schools received a $163,575 grant from AmeriCorps, (http://www.liveunitedsc.org/volunteer/programs.html).  The website even states that, “ 40 members are tutoring in four elementary schools and two faith based after school programs”, Really!?  What are their qualifications?  Considering how most of these HIGH SCHOOL students brag on the money they make…where’s the volunteering?  Also, like ACORN, AmeriCorps is rift with fraud, including the “literacy teaching and mentoring program.”   “Derrick Max, the former chief investigator for the House Education and Workforce subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight, recently stated, ‘We went through and looked at the background of people tutoring and mentoring. We found that a lot of them were still studying for their GED. It made no sense to me. If you haven't graduated from high school, don't send them back to mentor in the elementary school." [21] Robert Sweet observed, "If trained professional teachers who have spent four-plus years at a university cannot teach kids how to read, then why do we think that a week's training session for some college kid or welfare recipient is going to help kids learn how to read?’ (http://www.enterstageright.com/archive/articles/1000americorps.htm).   Talk about the blind leading the blind.  Residents and taxpayers should be concerned that our school board has let this questionable organization into our schools and actively encouraged our students to participate instead of focusing upon studying and graduating.  Here’s some more background on AmeriCorps and its ties to ACORN, and community organizing…sounds like our school board and administrators are now “seeping” community organizing into the curriculum….how about just teaching our kids the basics so we don’t get our butts handed to us by the global competitive marketplace.

I would like to know why are the schools in Edgefield County allowing registered sex offenders be on the school grounds after hours (removed)? When I called and asked about this matter I was told that  the sex offender could be allowed to attend school functions if they have children, but what if they were prosecuted and found guilty of molesting children and also failed to register not once but twice. As a parent and aunt to nieces this makes me angry and very concerned for the well being of other children in our schools...What can be done ? It seems like the criminals have more rights than the citizens that obey the laws especially in Edgefield.

Why is it that sex offenders can not live near schools, parks and daycare facilities but yet they can roam the halls of schools at free will (removed). What is wrong with this ? From personal experience

A great quote!

The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to an electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.  -- Author Unknown

Here is BP's 2008 second quarter results.  Notice the $9,465 (in millions) number... that means that BP made 9.4 *BILLION* DOLLARS IN SECOND QUARTER alone of 2008 in ***PROFIT***.  Cash money.

And they have to go to the Fed to get money to pay for the spill???

Aren't they part of the private sector?  Isn't the private sector supposed to be able to pay for its mistakes, or go bankrupt (aka AIG).  Isn't that what "capitalism/free markets" are all about???

Shouldn't BP go bankrupt if they can't be "bailed out" (remember:  conservatives were yelling for AIG to go bankrupt)???

I don't hear any calls from conservatives for BP to go bankrupt...

Editor's note: BP has not "gone to the government" for any money. Any funds expended by the federal government in their very slow (9 days to even respond) involvement will be paid for by BP. Those horrible profits by BP goes towards finding new sites for drilling to make the US independent of foreign oil (that Democrats continue to block exploration of) which is far below the "profit margins of women's cosmetics" or "bottled water". That's the problem the national Democrat Party and Liberals have, they wee wee on their own cereal and then want to blame someone else for it.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (government sponsored "quasi government entities") caused the housing meltdown in the first place and yet Democrats and Obama have excluded them in their "finance reform" bill on Wall Street. Wall Street was doing what the government forced them to do with the worthless paper Fannie and Freddie were creating, and yet the Democrats (who controlled the whole thing) want to sit back and act like spectators?

Why is it that we have am extremely high amount of fugitives / outstanding warrants or whatever you feel they need to be labeled in this county and yet we have more officers than any other small county I have ever seen. We have crimes committed in our county and our law enforcement knows where the
culprits are located and yet nothing seems to be done about it. I personally have had crimes committed against my person, property and family and I cannot seem to get anything done about it, but I can guarantee you if the law enforcement agencies wanted to find me they know exactly where to come and get me.

Why is it that we have so many pedophiles in the county and yet when someone pushes for extra precautions to be taken, they are deemed to be either racially profiling or just plan racist in the situation?

Why is it that we have such an inadequate law enforcement division that someone such as the owner of Johnston Pool Hall can challenge the law and not spend an all expense paid evening in the fine establishment known as the county lockup? OH D.mn I forgot, we are only equal in the eyes of GOD no this F'd up county.

Why is that  we have sooooo many Mexicans driving around without driving license and insurance and when they are detained and sent away, supposedly deported, that they are taken only 37 miles across the Georgia line and turned loose at a gas station?

Is this what we have come to? A no good, backwardsas..ed, redneck, good ole boy county? If this is true, then what are the dues that have to be paid so that I can refrain from challenging the stupidity of the Johnston police department, the idiots that operate the sheriffs department and the unfair
rhetoric from the magistrates and the get my check for something absolutely unneeded from the county council.

We could be so much better, and yet (w)e steadily become so much worse. What in the ^^ll is going on in this county? Please open your eyes and see what is going on. Lawyer's kids get away with whatever they want, (removed) kids can throw parties, underage girls, provide them with illegal drugs and
nothing is done. People can have warrants signed against them and nothing is done to arrest them, pedophiles can walk around like they have nothing to be afraid of because they don't and yet we attempt, pathetically, to portray this county as place someone would want to do business. REALLY!!

Somebody with the slightest amount of integrity please run for office, clean up this mess and make Edgefield County (a) DECENT place to live instead of the sludge pot that has been created here.

Every high school has its share of students who do wrong and get in trouble. ex. Strom Thurmond had two of its"finest graduate athletes" arrested in  Columbia recently on several charges. So quit pointing fingers.  I say get more involved in your local schools, run for the board, volunteer and support our local schools.

Thanks for your explanation - and just for the record, I don't fear anything. Just wanted you to explain your "rules" for anonymous "wandering" or should it be "wondering" minds. And I just "wonder" if I write something negative about someone in the public that happens to pay for advertising on your site, will you mention them by name?
And you also mention public servants as principals, superintendents, etc. Who all do you mean by "etc"?  Spell it out for the tax payers - If principals and superintendents and board members can be named - why not teachers? - why not businesses? -oh - but they buy ads on your site.

Editor's note: The rules are self explanatory. Businesses cannot be named with praises or admonishments whether they advertise or do not advertise, as stated. I do not know how many times you need to read the rules or have them explained to you before you can comprehend plain English. You must have attended classes taught by County Councilman Norman Dorn when he was allowed to lead classes in our school system.

Your guidelines for Wandering Minds state that persons' not in the "public purview" will be named - How do you determine the "Public Purview"?  And why do you not allow businesses to be named? Are they not a part of the public purview? It just seems that anyone that contributes in any way, shape, or form to our community is public - so that means that any coward can throw out names to voice their anonymous opinion. That's the thing - an anonymous coward can bash someone and you print the person's name........Just "wandering". And if you mention schools - why not businesses?

Editor's note: Those in the public preview are elected and appointed officials, public servants (principals, superintendent, ect) head of law enforcement (chief of police, sheriff) heads of NOG's and non-profits, judges, solicitors, public defenders, news figures, entertainers or celebrities, and the like. Others would include those mentioned in a news story or penning a letter to the editor that is published.

Business names are not allowed because we sell advertising and employees and / or business owners have tried to get free advertising by sending wonderful comments about their business in the Wandering Minds. Similarly, negitive comments are not allowed about businesses by name.

There are exceptions, as in the case of a fundraiser for a person or group in need that is being held at a business location. Most of these have already been mentioned in a PSA (public service announcement) and therefore can be repeated in the comment section.

The rules are to prevent the very things you worry about.

Be mad at Mr. Ashcraft if you wish but many in his district are glad he is willing to stick his neck out and try to make changes.   Thursday state senators spent 17 hours working on the budget.  Mr. Dorn is going to love the fact that they approved increasing vehicle registration fees from $24 to $36 along with other fee increases.   I watched Senator Massey and others experiencing the same frustration Mr. Ashcraft experiences with this council in trying to provide funding for the basic needs or core issues such as additional patrols only to see lesser needs funded.  In two to three years we will have a bunch of patrol cars to replace.  That is just one issue we face.  You aren’t going to  like that tax increase.

When is a budget work session not a work session?  Mr. Kneece comes in, hands out his proposed budget changes then Mr. Ashcraft asks questions.  He tries to discuss the need for replacement patrol cars and other issues he is told that could be discussed at the next council meeting.  What the heck is a work session for?  This council doesn’t want the public to know all the facts.  Don’t ask, we sure won’t tell.  I guess it is similar to other untouchable issues like recreation.

I don’t recall Mr. Ashcraft saying to close Piedmont Tech. That is up to Piedmont Tech. As usual no one likes for him to ask questions.  When asked about the $43,000 Mr. Klauber said Piedmont Tech would continue to educate Edgefield County students but it probably would not be in Edgefield.  Mr. Kneece told Mr. Klauber to go back to Piedmont Tech and see what could be worked out.  If Piedmont Tech chooses to close then we shouldn’t be paying $43,000.  Reading all the recent articles it appears Piedmont Tech jumped the gun and Mr. Ashcraft got the blame.

An earlier post asked what Mr. Ashcraft had done that Mr. Mims would bring differently to the table. Maybe it’s an unquestioning mind and very agreeable to everything Edgefield. The lesson that Ashcraft is not learning, is sit down, shut up, vote my way.  Tough choices have to be made and we have to figure out how to work this out.  Same old, same old is not working.

Thomas Jefferson also said a democracy can not survive without an educated public.

Editor's note: I challenge that quote in naming the "democracy" claiming Jefferson supported such a form of government. Our Founding Fathers supported a Republic based on the Rule of Law and not a "democracy", which they abhorred.

I will agree that the general public should be an "educated one", but since the federal government has got involved, scores and drop out rate have skyrocketed.

What a wonderful President we have. He makes jokes using the F-Word. I guess "his" god would approve. allah approves since his preacher "Rev" Wright" uses the Lords name in vain against our country. Obama is one big (removed) mistake.

Michael Reeves....I dare say, another of Fox Creek's former finest.  It seems that the Bishop's were ever so correct in stating that FC has the "best of the best" the "cream of the crop".  Yep, how many of those students and former students have been arrested so far? And what is FC's drop out rate? Anyone know? I would love to see a chart on that.

I would like to know why an employee of 25yrs in the school system  was fired from JET Middle School? (The teacher) taught me long years ago and I was surprise to hear  about her dismissal  what is going on with our schools in Edgefield Co. from a concerned parent.

Re: Turkey hater   Just because I said some of the turkeys were tacky, you find the need to label me a turkey hater???????. Shame , shame on you.  Hang your head in shame. Just because you disagree with me would that give me the right to label you a butte head!  I love turkeys. My husband turkey hunts, we support the turkey federation and I haven't had to buy a Thanksgiving Turkey in years. If you ever see a wild turkey up close they have beautiful colors in their feathers. I stand by my comment that some of them on the street are tacky. The horses in Aiken were done in good taste. No comparison!

Yes there bigger things to worry about than turkeys  in Edgefield. We have an over abundance of Butte Heads.

FYI regarding the amnesty issue. Lou Dobbs left CNN not long after the story. He was very vocal on subjects such as ILLEGAL immigration and was receiving pressure to stay away from these issues. His departure from CNN showed me that I cannot even trust CNN for a news source now. They too bow down to the pressure from the left.

I love it how conservatives complain about "big government" - but then when an oil pipe busts in their backyard, they declare a State of Emergency and who do they go to for money?  Oh yeah, the government.  Typical.

Editor's note: The government responds to emergency situations. BP is responsible for the costs. So the private sector is paying for the services provided. As long as they are paying the tab, what's your beef?

Just a question to the claim that "a vast majority of the ESL students" in Aiken are illegal-what documentation do you have that that is true?  Is it an assumption that any non- English speaking child is probably illegal? That is a dangerous road to go down and is one reason why there is questioning about this immigration law in AZ.  Do you realize that many non English students in the public schools speak languages other than Spanish?   If you go to a school and ask them how many students are illegal, you will not get an answer. If you do , that school is not following federal guidelines correctly. You have no idea how many of those children are here legally or illegally. If they were born here, they are citizens. Keep that in mind too and don't make biased assumptions.

I support the new AZ law. I wish the federal government would make it nation wide.  The President said we need to establish a path to citizenship. We have a path to citizenship already and we do not need to give these people amnesty. People from many places have come here and gone through the right ways to become citizens. People are waiting in line and these people want to jump to the front of the line.  If people are here illegally they should be dealt with and sent home.  If they are here legally and  are non English speaking, then ESL is the best thing going for the rest of us. How else will they learn English? Isn't it the best thing if we all keep our language? We need to in order to keep our country. Maybe we need to help them learn English instead of demonizing them for not speaking English.

I don't understand all the hoopla between (County Councilman) Rodney Ashcraft and Scott Mims (candidate). Mr. Ashcraft has done a good job so what is Mr. Mims going to bring to the table over Mr. Ashcraft other than his nefarious political connections?

To the person that made the comments about the student that hit the driver and the other one that did NOT hit the driver, and got charged.  You hit the nail on the head ECSD and Schools are in a mess. Some kids can do what they want  to do and nothing never happens. (content removed).

Obviously, he was a man ahead of his time.

HOW DID THOMAS JEFFERSON KNOW?

When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe .
-Thomas Jefferson

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
-Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes.  A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.
 -Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
 -Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.
-Thomas Jefferson

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
-Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves
against tyranny in government.
-Thomas Jefferson

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
-Thomas Jefferson

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.  If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property - until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.'

I have been reading the posts about Wardlaw and all the changes being made.  There have been some pretty strong statements about the Board. I am wondering...can someone please specify what they are doing that is so bad?  As a parent I really would like to know! What specifically has been done that has proven detrimental to the school or the students in it? You talk about selfish motivations in relation to changes being made.  How do you know what motivates someone else?  You complain about elitist attitudes and yet you judge the new headmaster without truly knowing him. Pride and arrogance are strong words to use when describing a person you do not know.  As parents, I really think we should ban together.  Pushing blame on others is not the way to handle a situation. What's the old saying "When you are busy pointing a finger at someone else, three fingers are pointing right back at you".  All I am saying is posting things here isn't helping any of our children.  Wardlaw is a special place.  I feel an atmosphere of family every time I step foot on that campus.  I know as a parent my child is cared for, loved and getting a great education at the same time. Yes, the school is changing.  It is evolving, but if you know anything about education you know that has to happen.  Sometimes that is very scary.  Sometimes change is hard.  In order for the school to remain successful it has to change.  Lets direct our time and energy to helping our children deal with the changes that might be difficult for them to understand and support those who care enough about our children to dedicate their time and even their lives to helping them build a bright future!

My child attends Wardlaw Academy and after her many years at Wardlaw I can say I am extremely happy with the education she has received.  I do however, have concerns about the board and its agenda.  I have wondered why the board continues to be the one who elects new members. Sure they "ask" for names from the staff but I wonder how many of those suggested names have ever been put on the board.  Why not send ballots to each family that has a child attending the school? Let parents who are paying to send their child vote for board members?  I believe this idea would scare the pooey out of the board- not having control of who sits on the board. I would like for the board to have open meetings.  I also have issue with the new headmaster coming in after only having visited Wardlaw on his spring break and a few other days and not renewing contracts of  teachers and other personnel.  How did he know who to let go? Surely he couldn't truely evaluate the performances of these teachers in a weeks time.  He based his decisions on the advice of others- a puppet.  How sad that after 40 years of excellence the board is fixated on changing what has worked for 40 years.

Just wondering when the lawsuits are going to start filing in to Edgefield EMS for not allowing certified first responders (nearest to the emergency ie: the motorcycle accident on Rock Creek Rd.) to respond to medical emergencies. Sounds to me like neglect.
