Editor's post: There are several posts submitted in regards to the Bobby Hickson case that have been withheld. Some because they are "over the top" and others because they reveal information about the victim. Let the court system work and in the end the truth will come out. The Sheriff's Office does not arrest people on hearsay. Hickson is innocent until proven guilty. The same goes for the victim.

To Editor, On the pictures that you edit on McCain & Barrack on the younger years. I believe McCain is about 70 years older that Barrack that is why he does not have on the Service Uniform. It looks like a costume that he is wearing when he was about 16 years old don’t hold that against him he was just being a child. Are you really a racist editor because your comments that you throw in your wondering minds says you are? It a shame if you are because how are we supposed to come together as a town Community with the out put you put out. And don’t give me that 1St amendment  either.

Editor's note: Yup, you got me, I faked the picture that was sent in of Barrack Obama dressing as a muslim in his college years next to John McCain as a decorated fighter pilot that spent more time in a Viet Nam prison camp enduring torture than Obama has served in his entire life as an elected official. Obama served just over 140 days as a US Senator when he ran for President. I bet John McCain wished he could have served just 140 days in the torture camp. Granted, I think John McCain is the worst candidate the Republicans could find for election, but he stands head and shoulders above the marxist Democrat Barrack Obama. Either way, we lose as a country. One just faster than the other.

As a second note: I do not edit photos sent in by readers. And just for good measure, if McCain is "70 years older" than Obama he would be over 100 years old. So your pitiful political knowledge is only surpassed by your pitiful intellectual capasity. I can see how that would make you a Democrat that calls me a racist for not bowing down at the alter of the lord Obama.

Furthermore, if I am a racist, why have I voted or supported Sheriff Adell Dobey, Bill Clyburn, and Ken Collier for elective office?

Who is racist?

I find it most shocking that Bobby Hickson was released on bond. Obviously (according to the article) there was enough evidence to charge him with kidnapping and molesting a minor. How unfair to the minor and her family that he gets to continue with “life as usual”, work as an EMT at the “family“ local ambulance company (surely there are minor patients) and enjoy HIS children, which are minors as well. He gets to walk out and is free to do WHATEVER to WHOMEVER. Where is the justice for the violated minor? Adults are supposed to protect children, NOT molest them. I am sure this minor cannot continue “life as usual” because of the traumatic situation. What judge would allow this man to post a bond? Who is to say that this has not happened before to other minors and will not potentially happen again? Thank God she was brave enough to tell and come forward. By telling, she has potentially saved the next victim. I pray if this has happened to others, that they will also come forward. I feel the violated minor needs to be protected because of speaking. The only way for that to take place is for him to be locked up until a court appearance. I believe that according to the article, it stated that evidence was found at Bobby Hickson’s home and more charges were pending. Evidently enough evidence was found for the kidnapping and molesting charges to stand. I happen know BOTH families and there is absolutely no way the minor child “made this up” for “revenge”. Revenge of what? The minor trusted this man and loved this family. The minor victim is devastated and so traumatized that I feel that speaks for itself as well as the evidence collected at Bobby Hickson’s home. It deeply saddens me that “other” charges are pending. The current charges are bad enough. I believe in the phrase “innocent until proven guilty” but I think the actions of the minor and the evidence speak for themselves. How soon before a court date?

Editor's note: Do not look for a court date anytime this year.

I understand the premise behind the settled lawsuit involving the ECSB…but there are two things I don’t understand:  1- what was the point of the lawsuit if the district didn’t have to publicly admit guilt and 2- why would someone, who is angry enough to sue, want to remain employed by the district that treated them so poorly?

I don’t think I could work for someone who takes money that should have been spent on the children and puts it into in their own pockets (I am aware the insurance company will pay the settlement…but doesn’t that mean the district’s premiums will increase? And won’t that increase be covered by the taxes I pay?).

Editor's note: If you want the amount of premiums paid to cover discrimination lawsuits, elect school board members that won't keep getting sued for discriminating.

My family has known Bobby Hickson and family for over 15 years. The Hickson Family is a hardworking, wonderful family with great morals. Bobby is very involved with his family and is a great father. My kids have been to birthday parties and other events with the Hickson's. This revengeful act is hurting the friends and family in our community and I hope and pray that the court system proves this in the near future. Here is a man that is trying to work and raise a family and now he and his family have to face this. Once the posting hits the media, the majority of viewers go ahead associate the alleged person with guilt and in this case, this is so undeserving.

Yes i'm writing about the movie shown up town.
I believe they should have a TENNAGERS night. They should show Dirty Dancing or the movie Shag...Meaning Shag was shot in Myrtle Beach that is in South Carolina..These are both tennage movies..It would give us teens something to do on Friday nights until Football games start back..Then we won't get into TROUBLE...

Concerning the arrest and release of Bobby Hickson....I, too, believe that you are guilty until proven innocent.  HOWEVER, when it comes to child abuse/sexual abuse in anyway concerning a minor, it horrifies me that someone could be released so easily.   I have personally experienced with my family the "Victim's Rights Side" and believe me, my experience definitely indicated that the Person Charged with a Crime and who commits a crime is given so many more rights than the Victim.  I applaud the child for coming forward; it took a very brave, strong child to make it through such a horrible experience and be able to come forward and provide enough detailed information to provide the law enforcement the evidence to receive and execute a search warrant and then make the arrest.   This child will NEVER be the same.  Her and her family's life have forever changed.  This child trusted and loved this family and this "man", (for lack of a better word) abused that trust.   What scares me is that this is only the tip of the iceberg.   Things like this usually do not happen in "singles".  I pray for the victim and her family; may they find the strength to overcome this horrible experience.

Re: Editor's note: So, from your earlier posts drilling for more oil (which would increase supply)

It would increase supply in 5-10 years (just minimally) which has no affect on the price of oil and gas today or tomorrow. The decrease in demand is happening right now, or it was, until prices dropped $0.30 a gallon ($3.89 to $3.59 at BP in Johnston) in the last two weeks. The point is we need to conserve and drive less, if we can. Wind power and the transition to natural gas for autos could take place a lot sooner than drilling for oil in America. Just yesterday, I read where they have discovered trillions of cubic feet of natural gas in Louisiana. If the government will pass legislation to encourage wind power for power line transmission and natural gas power for autos, then this will ween our nation off of the black gold that we crave so much.

Editor's note: You tout Mr. Pickens' Plan, but even he says it will take ten years. Are you still going to say that drilling our own oil (reducing our need for foreign oil by 100% in ten years) is not going to make a difference?
web posted July 31, 2008

I was listening to a radio talk show yesterday and they were asking people who they were going to vote for in the Presidential election. Most said Obama, but could not give a reason why other than they wanted change. None of those interviewed new any of his political views, only a couple of people for McCain had any idea what his views were on any thing. That is SCARY! I have always believed that we should come up with some type of intelligence exam before you are allowed to vote. Also, you should be a Tax payer, not live in government housing, or participate in any government handout program. This way you are not obligated to vote democrat in each election.I vote Republican each year(GW was not my proudest moment) simply from the fact that I want less government. We have become a welfare state.I go to work everyday as my wife does just to give us and our children a comfortable living. But we have to share 40% of our income with someone else who does not want to go to work eveyday so their children can have things.Democrats and liberals want fairness and equality, what's fair about that.Obama and the Pelosi's are not true Democrats, they are socialist. It does not work.Just look at history (Russia,China,Cuba). As far as getting us out of Iraq, not going to happen with whoever gets elected,we made our bed now we must lay in it i.e.Japan,Germany.Obama knows it,he just counts on uninformed voters who do not know it.

The drive in movie at the square was great. We will be back at the next one and I hope they keep doing this. I met people I did'nt know lived here before the movie and I think this is the best thing they have done to bring our town together. I like it better than the sho(p) around thing when everybody is running from store to store. This was a relaxing thing and people set up chairs and started talking. THAT is what a community does and we are a community even if we are called a town.
web posted July 30, 2008

I was very glad to hear about the Town of Edgefield's Movie Night.  I think it is a great idea.  Edgefield needs more community events.  I just wish they had adjusted the sound level a little.  We could hear the movie over the TV in our living room and we live five blocks away.  Not a huge complaint, just a little hint.

I have heard that the Edgefield Community Development Association is thinking about having a wine tasting during their next shoparound.  I do not think that this is the type activity we should be promoting for our town.  What if someone tastes too much wine and then drives?  There will also be children present during the shoparound.  What kind of example will this set for them?  Am I wrong in how I feel?  What do other readers think?

Re: Editor's note: Okay, let me see if I got this right.

Your ignorance of the laws of supply/demand never cease to amaze me. The post mentioned nothing about Obama. Why must you always take any serious conversation about oil prices on some rant about Obama? If you read anything besides your own website, you would know that big oil companies are against finding new supplies of oil. They have no interest to increase supplies. It is not part of their business models. What would you suggest, force them to drill for more oil? That's why we need alternatives to create competition so that the price of oil will decrease. Pickens is a businessman who wants to provide alternatives to foreign oil. If we switch to natural gas for vehichles, in the short term, this will help ease our addiction to foreign oil.

Editor's note: So, from your earlier posts drilling for more oil (which would increase supply) would do no good in the effort to lower oil prices but people not buying as much gas (which increases the amount of supply) does is contradictory. Your House of Rep. Leader Nancy Polosi wants to release oil from the SOR (strategic oil reserves - also increasing the available oil supply) to bring down costs. But somehow you can't wrap your head around increasing the oil supply here at home would lower oil prices and you want to ignore the fact that Democrats in Congress will do anything and everything to prevent that from happening. And if your candidate for president, Barack Obama (who makes leftist Polosi look like Rush Limbaugh), is not a factor in all of this, I don't know what is.

I guess by your claims of people using less gas due to high prices (that are coming down) that if we then increase that supply by drilling our own oil the prices would remain the same is what?

I guess I do read more than EdgefieldDaily.com for information. Maybe you should try getting away from leftist media outlets and start grasping some reality.

There is a special announcement on the headlines today about the new hire at STH for principal. I think you will find it interesting. Enjoy the debate as always.

Concerning Bobby Hickson, has anyone ever heard of the phrase "innocent until proven guilty"    I've known the Hickson family for a long time and can't even imagine him being guilty.  I have known cases where a child has accused someone of something out of revenge.  I just hope that both parties with be investigated and the truth will prevail.

Quit whining about a service you don't pay for. So what if the movie did get covered. Just be Thankful we have a real news service in Edgefield County now.
I have noticed Edgefield Daily.com and the Citizen's News Paper are working together to bring  comprehensive coverage for the whole county. "Kudos"
The Editor has to make a choice between real news and fluff, guess what I want to read the real news. This town wastes a lot of money on looking pretty.
Another bank robbery has taken place in town if more money was given to the police and sheriffs departments to protect the town and county maybe this would not happen. Could this is be why so many of the store front are empty on Main St. Or is is because "The Man" has raised rent outrageously high on the store front.

Editor's note: EdgefieldDaily.com maintains a very good working relationship with several local media outlets including newspaper, radio, and television.

In reference to the question about cell coverage going to Strom Thurmond: There is an Alltel tower located in Mount Vintage.  Many residents and workers out that way have Alltel and LG phones.  That combination seems to work the best.  We have a full signal from Highway 25, up Sweetwater Road, all the way to Strom Thurmond.  There is a "spot" almost in front of JET that the signal leaves, but it returns in seconds.  Our children have signals in and around the school grounds as well.

Editor's note: I have made an exception to naming company names because this request for information involves cell phone coverage for children traveling to school.
web posted July 29, 2008

Announcements that the US might start to drill for more oil have had no affect on the price of oil. Demand in the US has dropped over the last two months. This decrease in demand has lowered the price of crude and gas at the pump. However, if the price drops more, then Americans will start to drive more and use more gas and then the price will flatten out, and then begin to rise again. Conservation is the key to price decreases in oil and gas. If we use less, then demand creeps lower and the prices will follow. Pickens has a legitimate plan and if the government follows through with laws and policies to help the wind power indusrty, then there will be more investors to follow Picken's lead. Refer to the artcle by Thomas Friedman with the link below:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/27/opinion/27friedman.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

This is important reading and will give more information to you about Pickens and his plan.

Editor's note: Okay, let me see if I got this right. The drop in oil prices, which has been driven by stock market speculatiors, not supply, is going down because of an abundance of oil because people are buying less gas in the past week and has nothing to do with the push to "Drill here, Drill now" campaign. I also wonder why the national (liberal) media is not reporting that the stock market speculators are "speculating" that if Barack Obama gets elected his tax and economic plans would plunge America into a deep recession if not a depression.

(One of many comments) I was disappointed that (EdgefieldDaily.com) did not cover the movie in Edgefield on Friday. It was a fantastic event and when I logged on Monday there was not a word about it. Shame on you!!!!

Editor's note: I had a choice to make, cover a showing of a twenty-some odd year old movie on the Edgefield Town Square or the execution of a search warrant and arrest of an accused child molester. Guess who won out for breaking news coverage? The movie is covered in today's headlines. Thank you for reading.

I made an error in the posting of my rant. I wanted to say it was a waste of time for the Congressman to explain the changeover to HD TV when we are bombarded everyday with the same info in the papers, on radio, and TV.

I read the story on Bobby Hickson friday night and it never said how old the girl was. Did you forget to put it in the story? Are you getting slack?

Editor's note: No, a new policy was adopted this year to give the age range of the victim and not the actual age in order to protect the victim's identity.

Just wanted to comment on the Town of Edgefield's Movie Night that was Friday the 25th. Our whole family attended and had a great time. They could not have bought better weather for the event. There were 2-300 people in attendance and most all stayed from the beginning of the festivities to the end of the movie. There was a rousing applause at the conclusion of the movie which in my mind signaled an approval of the night. We hope they continue to do this on a regular or monthly basis. If you missed it, you missed a great opportunity to be with friends and meet new ones in the best town in the state.

It has often been said to find true answers, follow the money. This is true with T. Boone Pickens! A billionaire that invests millions will surely invest a few more dollars to recoup or make a profit. It also appears that just the U.S. talking about more drilling here is driving the price of crude lower. As the price of oil drops, so does the price of gas.
God Bless! Dickie

So now we are wasting our tax dollars by having a Congressman come here to explain the change over of our not's. Give me a break. Where have the people been hiding, in a cave? Have you people not seen the constant ad nauseum ads every single day telling you about the change over coming in Feb? What a waste of time and monies to have this guy tell me the same thing. No wonder our government is so screwed up worrying about the little things because it can't take it's head out of the sand to handle major items. And now we are on the verge of putting a guy into office who has absolutely no idea what's going on except that the younger generation thinks he's cool!

Editor's note: How is a Congressman coming to their district a waste of taxpayer money? That is his (or her) job. Having an opportunity to pull your Congressman to the side and speak your mind is a good thing. Should Sen. Shane Massey stop his popular Town Hall meetings because it is a waste of taxpayer money too?

I am not sure whether the cell companies' names will be published.....For the reader with the child going to STHS from the Merriwether area, I have AT&T/Cingular for my personal cell service.  It works if I go to STHS using Hwy 25/121 and staying on Hwy 121 to the cut thru road to Wardlaw Academy. The road name escapes me, but it's the left turn past Billy's and the little strip shopping area.  If I go Sweetwater Rd, my cell phone does not work until I get into Edgefield.  My work cell phone service is Verizon and it works most everywhere.

I read (the Editor's post) about Barack Obama today and it reminded me of the manchurian candidate. I read the book when I was in college in the 60's and it fits him and the tv media to a tee. Its all about getting a sleeper muslim friendly candidate into the White House. Maybe that is the script he is running on?

Editor's note: I have often thought about that, but I have to admit I have never read the book. I did see the remake of the 1962 film that was released in 2004 with Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, and Liev Schreiber.

The process of hiring a principal for STHS is ongoing. Application deadline was July 11. Interviews took place on Wednesday, July 24th and Thursday, July 25th at the district office. The Superintendent invited at least one teacher (dept head) to join in on the interviews. The list of candidates interviewed was not released, so the teacher that attended was sworn to secrecy. There are running bets that the current principal of JET is the lead candidate; however, if an internal district administrator is hired, they will still have to fill that vacancy. If an internal STHS adminstrator is hired, that will leave STHS one admin short and not much time to fill that position. It would probably be best to hire an external candidate to the district, then this would bypass any problem of admin shortages.

In reading Wandering Minds this morning it hit me, not for the first time, that the situation with Obama is almost like a mirror image of the series of books, "Left Behind".  His campaign is reminicent of the campaign of Nicolae for "World Leader".  Nicolae was the Anti-Christ.  While this series is a work of fiction, it is based on scripture. This really came home to me again when I read that Obama is campaigning in Germany.  Germany can not vote for our President so why is Obama campaigning there and also going on a World Tour?  I am a Democrat for the most part but I have always voted for the candidate and I can say that I won't be voting for Obama and it is primarily because he reminds me of Nicolae in the Left Behind Series.

Your words: "Call me dim, but I still cannot find the words"
My Words: You really are dim. It is easy to recognize that you were definitely educated in Edgefield County. If school boards, town councils, county councils, etc. force prayer upon attendees then they are establishing a particular religion upon government (city, state, etc.). When someone stands up at a school board meeting or city council meeting and recites a prayer, and expects every attendee to particpate, then they are forcing religion on everyone in attendance, ergo, they have established a religion for that particular governmental body. Now if you are attending a council meeting and you want to pray just bow your head and pray silently. The deity that you pray to will be able to hear your words. Nobody is stopping anyone from praying. If school children want to pray, then teach them to pray silently at there desk. Prayer does not have to be spoken over a microphone or loud speaker for it to be heard. Why must you zealots always have to force prayer on everyone else? Freedom means the right to worship or not to worship. If someone wants to be an Atheist, then they have as much right as you do, when you practice Christianity. If you don't like it, then get over it. Your strict literal take on the Constitution sickens me to the point of emptying my gastro-intestinal juices. The Constitution is a living document that must be interpreted to adjust to the changes that take place in society.

Words from reader: "so the crap that you’re writing is just words on paper"

My Words: First, there was no paper used. That's the good thing about cyber writing, I don't kill any trees. Second, it's just information to steer you to making an informed decision in the election. Finally, if you start to read something you don't like, then skip down to the next posting.

Editor's post: I am so sick of the liberal media and their constant idol worship of Obama. Everything on TV is a made for TV election. American Idol (somebody needs to read the Bible about "idol worship"), High School Musical, and all the other so-called "reality TV" voting shows.

It has gotten so bad that the media is even pushing quoting people and putting them on TV calling Obama the "new Messiah". First off, I find that not only offensive, but blasphemous. Even Obama speaks as if he is holy.  "... a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany ... and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Obama" - Barack Obama - Lebanon, New Hampshire. January 7, 2008.

Search Google for "Obama the messiah" and there will be almost 2 million links provided. How sad is that?

The Chicago Sun Times has been running banners on their web site about the "Obama World Tour" as if he is some kind of rock star. (Oh, wait, to those who think TV is reality that is what they believe). Don't take my word for it, this one was online yesterday (aboard "O Force One") and this one was placed today. I can't wait for tomorrow's banner telling us how we can continue to get "up to the minute updates" on "Obama's World Tour". ( I guess with him changing his positions on political topics every time he speaks we may need "up to the minute updates" to keep up with his ever changing positions.)

I can see the headline now, "Obama is a real person, he just went to the bathroom," with the reporter fainting after being overcome by the greatness of a totally incomeptent fake who ran for President with the vast political experience in the US Senate of just over 140 days in office.

We have 2 oil men in the whitehouse who wouldn't tell us who they had shape our energy policy.
The price of gas doubles in one year.
from the article,

"But there's a flaw in that logic: even if tomorrow we opened up every square mile of the outer continental shelf to offshore rigs, even if we drilled the entire state of Alaska and pulled new refineries out of thin air, the impact on gas prices would be minimal and delayed at best. A 2004 study by the government's Energy Information Administration (EIA) found that drilling in ANWR would trim the price of gas by 3.5 cents a gallon by 2027. (If oil prices continue to skyrocket, the savings would be greater, but not by much.) Opening up offshore areas to oil exploration — currently all coastal areas save a section of the Gulf of Mexico are off-limits, thanks to a congressional ban enacted in 1982 and supplemented by an executive order from the first President Bush — might cut the price of gas by 3 to 4 cents a gallon at most, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council. "

Congress has renewed the ban on offshore drilling EVERY YEAR SINCE 1982.  Do I need to tell you the years the Republicans had a majority and could have overturned this ban?

Here is a piece saying W still had it all wrong in 2007.
Here is Jimmy Carter's plan.....30 YEARS AGO!

Editor's note: First off, you need to get with your fellow Democrat further down who says he wants to listen to an "oil man". Ya'll need to make us your minds. Then you quote a piece from the New York Times, who is more liberal than Obama and Hillary combined, to support a liberal view. Lastly, you sing the praise of Carter who gave us gas shortages, record high intrest rates, unemployment, and inflation. Excuse me if I do not want to jump on that wagon in 2008.

By the way, it was very nice

Did anyone know that the last person Greg Thompson hired as he walked out the door was none other than Brother Bibbs’s wife to run the in school suspension class? I’m not sure if that was before he turned in his resignation then went to Myrtle Beach-all expenses paid by taxpayers- for a week to an educator’s conference or when he came back for his week to clean out his office.

Those of you who thought Thompson was the greatest thing for STHS, delivering a letter of resignation saying you’re leaving in two weeks, going on an all expense paid trip to Myrtle beach footed by the district (us as taxpayers), and leaving the high school and the district in a major jam are not the actions of a competent professional. They show his true nature.

Nobody knows when a principal will be named and with just over two weeks before teachers return to work things look pretty rough for STHS.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion"

Editor's note: Call me dim, but I still cannot find the words,
"separation of church and state". That means the US Congress cannot pass laws to establish a national religion. (Did you ever study history of why that was added? The colonists were seeking religious freedom from England as well.) Call me dim again, but I believe religion (Christians, et al) were well "established" long before the US was even thought about. The wording was added to make sure the US Congress did not interfere with religious activities. You know, like prayer in schools. I still can't find where the Constitution provides for public education being in the hands of the federal government. Maybe you want to take a stab at that as well?

All of these comments about Sister Sallie, Brother Bibbs, and Dictator Brightharp, supporting Mr. Anderson for Senate so the writer of the post is voting for someone else are just ridiculous! A person running for public office can NOT necessarily control who comes out to say who they are being supported by. The same trio above say they are Christians and believe in God. Does that mean that since they say they are for God the rest of us should be AGAINST God?

T. Boone Pickens says we can not drill our way out of the oil problem. I'll take his word anyday over yours. He is a real oil man and knows a lot more about the problems with oil exploration than you. However, free speech is always open to interpretation, wouldn't you say.

Editor's note: Pickens has some good ideas, but they are basically confined to certain areas of the country.  Of course, the fact that we have 300 years worth of oil under our feet proves there is no way to "drill our way out of the oil problem". That is like saying you are poor and can't get ahead even though your driveway is paved in gold.

according to the the wandering minds post on 7/24/08 Mr. Anderson is the Attorney of the ECSBOE, Town of Edgefield, Johnston, ESCD, What do the initials stand for? I think one has to do with the school board after that I was lost. Instead of guessing wrong I will just ask. Maybe the post was mistyped.
Our schools and county need help not someone who has helped hinder progress. This would explain why Bibbs and Cook would come out and endorse Mr.Anderson.

Editor's note: I believe the "ECSBOE" (ECBOE) and the "ECSD" are basically the same, Edgefield County School Board of Education and the Edgefield County School District. Mr. Anderson cannot direct what they do, only advise them if what they are doing is legal or illegal in his legal opinion. Even then, the BOE or the towns leaders do not have to take his advice.

On my travels I ride many dirt roads that have trash piles along the way. These piles include tires and rims, batteries, hot water heaters, and other scrap metals. So... provide a public service (picking up trash) and get paid for it.

Do not cross over onto someone's property without permission, though I am sure they would give it to you if you ask and you are willing to haul off the "trash".

It is a "win-win" for everyone.

I am an avid supporter of our Senator, Shane Massey and I am sincerely impressed by his willingness to address any and all questions the voters may ask of him.  I recently contacted Shane by cell phone and ask about his vote "against" the Lord's Prayer and he was extremely informative.  For those of you who have questions, please call.  Don't take what just anyone says for fact.  And please don't base your votes on information that does not have facts to back it up.  We cannot be ignorant voters. We need to understand the reason for the vote.  Shane Massey has shown us his love and dedication to Edgefield County.  Yes, he may work in Aiken, but his heart is always here in Edgefield.  And as a matter of fact, I believe he shows that he not only cares deeply about Edgefield County, he cares about this District as a whole. I believe someone made a comment about Mr. Massey concerning his choice to work in Aiken being based on making a lot of money.... Let's be realistic here, we all have families to support and strive to care for them to the best of our abilities.  And how much money Mr. Massey makes has nothing to do with his character and ability to serve this district.  Let's stick to what really matters here.   I am sure that Mr. Anderson is a wonderful man, but I believe that Shane has proved and will continue to prove that he is the best man to represent this District in Columbia.  And for all of those who feel the need to "throw mud,"  please take credit for it instead of laying the blame on the candidates.  I look forward to watching this election pan out....May the best man win.  And in case there was any question, my vote goes to Senator Shane Massey.

It is refreshing to have a response so quickly from Mr. Shane Massey on an issue raised in Wandering Minds. I don't see any "Letters to the Editor" from Mr. Greg Anderson explaining any votes he has to defend, or why he accepts campaign money from C Brad Hutto. 4 out of 7 ECBOE members say they love the "hands-off" approach of Mr. Anderson when it comes to dealing with ECSD matters. They love the way he sits back and watches as the board members continue to drag the school district down in a quagmire.
Would anyone please name three issues, policies, anything that Mr. Anderson has done to better our community while serving as the attorney for the ECSBOE, Town of Edgefield, or Town of Johnston. Years of employment by these entities does not add up to years of productivity. Heck, Norman Dorn has served on the County Council for over 15 years and look at his record. By the way, Mr. Dorn and Rev. Brightharp have officially endorsed Mr. Anderson as the "Wright" man for State Senator of the 25th district. That's exactly what we need in Columbia, someone who speaks for Dorn and Brightharp.
Unless Mr. Anderson resigns from the ECSD, and denounces the activities of the ECBOE, then Shane Massey has my vote.

This county does not need anyone in public office who owes any political favors to Sister Sallie, Obama Bibbs and the Canaanites for votes to get elected. Look at the mess the Mo-Town-Fo have accomplished during their incompetent tenure as school board dorks. Obama Bibbs and his protege Madam Clunkscales(District HR Clown) have made it possible reverse discrimination is the operative method for hiring and this will surely bring more law suits by persons of non-color. Eventually Obama Bibbs and Madam Clunkscales, through their incompetence, will help increase taxes to payout the law suits won in Federal court. Normally I agree with what you have to say, but your article "Repaving Woodlawn Road - death in the making" was off-base.  Way off-base.  I'll keep my quip pretty short compared to your story.

Will deaths rise?  Quite possibly.  More than likely it will be one or more of the "Organ donors". and if it is, good riddance.  That is a perfect example of Darwinism.  Sound crass?  Maybe, but sometimes the truth hurts.

Does the road need repaving?  Yep.  Sure does, and repaving a badly rutted, deteriorating road makes sense, and improves safety if the people using it follow the rules of the road.  I pull a 34' fifth wheel up and down Woodlawn several times a month, and a boat on occasion.  I stay at or under the posted speed limit.  Never felt out of control, and I stay within the lines with ease.

Don't penalize my safety because some idiots are, well, idiots.  If we want to do that, we need to shut down all roads and only offer mass transit.  Better yet, make everyone rides bicycles or walk.  That will surely decrease deaths.

If we don't want to maintain it, then close it.

Editor's note: I was trying to make the point that the state needs to provide funding for patrolling their roads. I am not opposed to the road being paved, I just want something done about the future organ donors before they kill an innocent person, or family heading home or to the lake.

Now that we know the School Board settled the lawsuit with Gaye Holmes, aren't we as taxpayers entitled to know how much money the School District spent to settle with her?  They paid her with our tax money.  Whether they admitted wrongdoing or not, shouldn't they legally have to tell us how much of our money has been spent?

Editor's note: I am not at liberty to discuss what I know about this case and the settlement, which is sealed from my understanding. The pay out to Mrs. Holmes, as I understand, was paid by the insurance carrier, not the ECBOE. I'm sure the BOE will be happy to tell you what they pay in insurance premiums, but good luck getting the insurance company to release what they paid to settle the suit. On the flip side, look for another suit to come this year. Same set of conditions. Maybe this time the offended party will not fold and force the members of the BOE to take the stand. I know I would. They are already on record as saying that they sought out a black male for another position. Chapin has never beaten Strom Thurmond; they are 0-4 in the series. ST has dominated this series by outscoring Chapin 141-20 with half of the games (2) being shutouts.  They are former region foes and have only played each other in region play. Chapin’s offense avg 25.2 ppg and their defense gave up 27.8 ppg in 2007.  Chapin’s largest margin of victory in 2007 = 40-7 win over Brookland Cayce; largest defeat in 2007 = 42-14 loss to Myrtle Beach.
ST vs Chapin is set for August 22nd 7:30 pm at STHS.  This is considered week 0 for the high school season.

2.  Ridge Spring Trojans: (Region 4 Class 1A Div2) Last year’s record (7-6), last game played; lost to Great Falls (Red Devils) 42-14 on November 16th.  Last time ST played RSM… October 3, 1975 ST 20 RSM 7.  Strom leads the all time series 5-0 and has dominated the series outscoring RSM 167-33, with 2 of the 5 games being shutouts.  This record does not include the 1960 score of Edgefield High 33 RSM 13 or the 1960 score of Johnston High 28 RSM 0.  RSM’s offense avg 20.3 ppg and their defense gave up 15.6 ppg, in 2007. RSM’s largest margin of victory in 2007 = 49-13 victory over Fox Creek; largest defeat in 2007 = 35-0 loss to Pelion. RSM is just 2 years removed from the Class 1A Div 2 State Title game, in which they lost to Lake View at SC State (40-6).
ST vs RSM is set for August 29th 7:30 pm at RSM High School.

3.  North Augusta Yellow Jackets: (Region 5 Class 4A Div2) Last year’s record (6-6), last game; lost to Westside (Rams) 35-21 on November 9th.  Last time ST played NA…August 24, 2007 NA 27 ST 17.  NA leads the all time series 17-7.  NA has outscored ST 480- 311. Seven of the 24 games, have been decided by 7 points or less. These two teams have played each other in the season opener, consecutively, since 1988.  This will be the 1st year in 20 years that ST or NA opens the season with a different opponent, other than each other. NA reeled off 7 consecutive wins in the series from 1997 thru 2003, which really opened the gap in the series. North Augusta’s offense averaged 20.6 ppg and their defense allowed 26.8 ppg in 2007. NA’s largest margin of victory in 2007 = 26-14 win over White Knoll.  Largest defeat in 2007 = 41-14 loss to Dutch Fork.   ST will enter this year’s game after a bye week.
ST vs NA is set for Sept 12th 7:30pm at STHS.

Mr Editor, thanks for your timely comments on the District 25 Campaigns; hopefully many will take heed.  As a Shane Massey supporter; I support him because his actions to date focus upon limited government.  Some derided him because he did not support the smoking tax.  If one read his frequent updates, Shane articulated that as smoking decreases culturally and the committed tax monies dry up as smoking decreases, then government will be burdened with an on-going budgetary commitment for health care (where the smoking tax monies were being spent), then legislators divert money from other programs to prop up the shortfalls in the health care programs,  that’s how these massive budget deficits begin.  Government should only do, what the individual cannot do for themselves (public works, roads, defense, etc).  Government should not assume individual responsibilities (health care).  Regarding a reader’s earlier comment that he did not support school prayer legislation.  I am a devoted and practicing Christian, I do not want school prayer.  The moment that begins, the door is open to “multi-religious” prayers (akin to our current multi-cultural days, which are absurd).  I for one don’t want my child praying to Allah.  The moment of silence suits me just fine.  I’m sure Mr Anderson is a decent and competent candidate, but Shane reflects my limited government, common sense values.

As voters in the 25th district we need all the facts we can get about the candidates. The process should not be "smooth". These are times that demand that the constituents be informed of the candidate's past and what the candidate will do in the future. If the candidate promises more jobs, better schools, then we, the constituents, need to know how the candidate plans on raising the funds to accomplish these tasks.
As far as what Shane Massey has done, here is an excerpt taken from a publication in SC.
"Newly elected state Senator Shane Massey didn’t wait for the start of the legislative session to begin shaking things up in Columbia. Massey pre-filed a bill today in the Senate that would enhance disclosure rules concerning earmarks."
Mr. Massey is working hard to reduce wasteful spending in government. He has promised nothing but to work hard for the 25th district and do whatever he can to help the constituency of his district.
He does not make any promises that require more money be taken out of our pockets; or that he knows he cannot deliver. Mr. Greg Anderson has made mistakes in his campaign, but these are the mistakes of a novice. He has never run for public office. He obviously wanted to raise as much money as he could, so he did not carefully screen his contibutors.
The facts tell the real story, not the mushy, subjective words written without evidence to back it up.

The construction lobby is pursuing this increase to help pay for construction of new roads.  I have written both my Congressmen and Senator about the proposal. I informed them that if they voted to increase my fuel tax I could no longer vote to keep them in office. Maybe if enough disgruntled voters let them know where they stand on issues and refuse to vote for them for reelection will congress listen.  I am done, I am tired of Congress selling their votes to lobbyist/highest bidder.   I lost my full time job over 3 years ago, and can only find part time work. I have 3 kids all in college and I am scraping by on less than 1000 dollars a month. I have no more money to donate to the federal government for taxes. And no I do not receive any federal aid. I do not qualify for even food stamps because my kids are full time college students. If they were not in college or were unemployed then i could receive aid, but because they are college students I do not qualify. The only way for my opinion to count is to let Congress know I will not support them if they do not stand up for me. I urge everyone to contact their representatives to let them know this is a bad idea.

We would like our side of the story to be told. It was posted Wednesday that our dogs are accused of attacking  neighbor's dog. We did notice one of our animals hurt and offered to pay vet bills. The problem we have is that we do not own any pit bulls. We have three loving dogs which are a black Lab, a German Shepard mix, and a American Bulldog. All of these dogs are known and loved by many of our other neighbors. The dogs have also not been out of our backyard in months, due to an elect. fence, that was previously installed.
This story was brought to us by a neighbor, and if the embarrassment of them bringing it was not enough, as we began to read it we felt victimized. We thought our animal was responsible, however, if there are two pit bulls loose in the neighborhood attacking animals, we may not be.  We are saddened by the article published Wednesday and would like our feeling's expressed.

On May 21, 2008 Shane Massey was one of only 12 senators that voted AGAINST having the Lord's Prayer in public schools. Greg Anderson has long advocated that we should have prayer in our schools. Everytime Greg gives a speech to a group he always says that while he is a lawyer, he is guided by the principal that God's law was made before man's law. At the meetings that he attends such as school board and town council, the meetings are opened with a prayer although it is probably illegal. When Greg was asked by a reporter from the Augusta Chronicle why he let these entities do this, Greg responded by saying that "God is worth fighting for." Greg is not afraid to speak up for religion although it may be politically incorrect. Shane apparently does not think it is important. I would not bring this up but somebody had the audacity to question Greg's faith.

Don't get me wrong, I support anything and everything you can do to hold Dorn accountable. However, you said your options regarding Dorn were being discussed with "several attorneys." Please tell us what brilliant attorney didn't bother to tell you that the "criminal slander" had been declared unconstitutional. Better yet, please tell us you really didn't talk to an attorney about that one. I support your cause, but I'm just curious.

Editor's note: Legal advice is being sought on a civil matter, not a criminal matter. Criminal matters are left to law enforcement.

I played golf today and the other three guys voted for Shane last time also but they are having doubts this time because they know Greg and they cannot believe that Shane is stooping this low. Gresham Barrett has to have the worst staff of any congressman, ever. Two years ago I approached them about helping me with a problem . I was told they would do what they could, we have been in contact over that time, UNTIL, I was told very blatently, that "we can't tell another government agency what to do." EXCUSE ME? you mean you can't even write a letter or place a phone call on my behalf. I am not the only one that they have strung along. They were suppose to help us with a VA marker-the VA was giving us the runaround, and nothing their either. This time, the girl was just plain rude. I will voice my displeasure come his next election. The people in his district are seriously lacking for someone to help us, between his, we will do nothing to help, and Lindsey "Grahmnesty", its not a pretty picture.

Sally Cooks has to go, we do not need the poison she brings with her from Rev. Brightharp and Mt. Canaan's church onto the Edgefield county school board. They can keep the control/anger issue's in their own neighborhood. The School board can manipulate the yearly progress reports to say what ever they want by forcing the teachers to pass unqualified students. But over all South Carolina is at the bottom of the national public high school graduation rate. At 53 percent Hispanic students are graduating at rate less than African-American's in this state. By Choosing race as the major qualification of  school  board superintendent  they did not  even consider the group needing the most help.
All our kids need to be represented and helped. Lets clear the EC school board of people with personal agendas.

I see that FCHS has gained another mortgage (filed July 14, 2008) - this time a construction bridge loan for $490,000 which has terms allowing borrowing up to a maximum of $980,000.  Yet the previous mortgages do not show as being paid off.  Where's the USDA loan that was to pay for all of this?

Editor's note: There is no USDA loan. I have no idea where they will get the money to pay off the half million dollar debt that will come due this October, much less any other debt. How does this "public body" put the public in debt for such large amounts of money and yet never has to hold a referendum as all other public bodies do?

There is a "heroes banquet" planned for the "honorable"  Norman Dorn and "honorable"  Willie Bright.  It is spear-headed by the "respected" Rev. George Brightharp.  Go figure!  Step into the 21st century.  People are looking for honesty and integrity, not flashbacks to supposed glory days of individuals who have believed their own press and think that they are God's gift to mankind.  Guys, take my advice and retire.  The 60's and 70's are over.  We are the new generation and the ideas and methods of the past will not work with us.  We are a data driven generation.  Show us results or you can expect to be removed from any position you hold.  This is also a fair warning to all other political and social leaders.  The public (via the Internet) has the means to read and share all of your speeches and prior voting history. We are not stupid nor will we believe anything just because it comes from "leaders".

Well, I made a statement in Wandering Minds a month or so ago in regards to prices at the pump NOT fairly tracking prices of a barrel of crude oil, and once again it happens.  No one (small or large) is willing to make this a headline issue.  WHY?  The price at the pump is quick to track barrel prices on the way UP, but slow to track prices on the way DOWN.

Gas prices have been hovering at $4.00/gallon for close to a month now, while a barrel of crude oil has been between $140 and 150.  This week, the barrel price dropped approximately TEN PERCENT.  It is now below $130.  I filled up yesterday at (my local store) and, surprise!  The price was the same as it has been for weeks.  Three eighty-five.  I didn't see a ten percent drop, or even a one percent drop.

When a barrel goes up five bucks, you can bet your sweet Vidalia onion that we are going to pay more at the pump, probably that same afternoon.  When it drops, weeellllll, just give it a week or two.  "They" are going to see how long the drops stays a drop, then will start to slowly, ever so slowly, start to ease back on the price.

Unbelievable.

I think that what you do for Edgefield County is so valuable.  If you didn't speak the truth about local politics and other issues, no one would.  Keep fighting the good fight!

I am angry about Norman Dorn's ability to stay one step ahead of the law and that he will not be held accountable by law for his remarks during the last council meeting.  I hope that you are going to persue civil action against this man.

btw, I didn't realize that I couldn't call him corrupt.  It was removed, along with another sentence from my last wandering minds post.  Sorry.  I try to follow the rules.

Would it help it citizens called the Solicitors office or SLED about him?  I have thought about doing so for a few days now but didn't want to make matters worse for you. I get the feeling that he is being protected by other officials.

I understand that it would be unethical for you to request help from your readers but if one offered to complain (or post about others complaining) that would be a totally different story.

You have a lot of support from your readers and many, many folks want to see this man reap the consequences of his actions.

Also, would it be inappropriate for me to run for the School Board in the Bettis Academy district with a child in private school?  I wish I'd put my name in the hat for the council seat but was hesitant to get involved.  But a little voice keeps telling me that I'm going to have to step up in this district because no one else seems to want to.

Editor's note: Thank you for your kind comments. Kenneth Collier has already filed to run against Sallie Cooks and the best way to unseat her is a head to head race. I would never tell someone not to run for office, but muliple candidates is what got Cooks re-elected when a majority of voters voted against her in the Nov. general election but failed to return to the polls for the run-off.

The reason I removed the comment about Mr. Dorn being "corrupt" in the context you sent in, implied a criminal offence. You can call elected "leaders" any name in the book, but do not accuse them of criminal offences unless you can prove it in a court of law.

Thank you for reading and your continued support. I am not making the difference, you are.

Here are some tasty tidbits from the list of contributors to the campaign of Mr. Greg Anderson:

A) C Bradley Hutto ($1,000 contributor - Democratic State senator)
 1) Here's what he said about legislation on illegal immigration
"I think it’s ridiculous that we’re going to be spending time on this."
While illegals rush across our borders and flock to SC.
 2) Here is a friend of Mr. Hutto
William Smoak Fairey was tried in absentia and without counsel for the charge of obtaining goods and monies under false pretenses.
This guy was a well known con man who swindled money from hard working South Carolinians and a known acquaintance of Mr. Hutto

B) Richard Harpootlian ($1,000 Contributor: Liberal left wing radical atty)
 1) Served as the attorney for Susan Smith, the lady from Union, SC that drowned her two young children.
2)Served as the attorney for Dewain Herring; Herring was a dope fiend and crooked Columbia attorney who was convicted of murder and pointing a firearm at a police officer. Herring and Harpootlian were know to be close associates
3) After a trial against the state of SC, which Harpootlian received a favorable verdict, Harpootlian told reporters " I deserve $23 million" the state determined he should be awarded $19,197; however, Harpootlian received $1 million plus and it was all paid by taxpayers in SC

Do we want our State Senator from the 25th district hanging out with these hoodlums?

A lot of talk about alternative energy. http://www.whitehousehistory.org/05/subs/05_d19.html

My favorite is about the great energy visionary, Ronald Reagan.  See Ronnie moved into a home in 1981 that had perfectly operating solar panels running the hot water heater.  So what would any intelligent person do......remove them!  Why have the sun provide energy for you when you can burn a perfectly good carbon based fuel and get energy.

That Reagan was the best president we ever had.  Took away that evil solar power and made sure no one had any tax breaks for putting solar energy to work.  Thank God he killed the solar industry.  Imagine if this man's vision had not come to fruition!   There may be millions of homes in this country with evil solar panels on them!  Can you imagine the horror?

I for one am glad that Ronald Reagan killed the solar movement when he did.  I am glad he put us on the path we are on today.  Aren't you?

Just wanted to comment about the Mt. Canaan B. C. & the Rev. George L. Brightharp situation.

"The man is sick and needs help".  It is a shame and a disgrace to the Black Community and to the Black Forefathers that sacrificed so much to up lift the black race in this comminity for this man and his hand picked few flunkies to make such a mockery out of church business.  It is also a disgrace and dis-service to the county and to the state at-large.

George L. Brightharp has a serious inferirity complex and an ego problem along with a demonic mean streak.  Those that know him knows that it runs in his family.  His father was the same way and he is doing the same thing that his father did.  The only difference is the leaders of the black community in those days did not tolorate his father's foolishness and they put him in his place.  It is my opinion that this is why he is acting the way he is today because he in his mind and heart think that the community did his father wrong.  (PoorThing, he needs prayer).  Too bad this generation does not have the back bone or the fortitude to send this man packing.  Though a few of the church members are trying to get rid of him, however over the years Brightharp has strategiclly put members on the Deacon Board & Trustee Boards that don't know any better or they are beholding to him.  He would rather see the church torn apart, families split and hell frozen over before he conceeds to rightousness and justice if he thinks it does not cast him in a positive light.  Thus his ego problem & inferiority complex.

I plead to the Mt. Cannan Association to step in and help the members of Mt. Canaan get rid of this pastor.  It will ultimately come back to hurt the association and it is the right thing to do before someone gets hurt.  Step up pastors, you know what is going on at Cannan is not right.  "As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly".  Proverbs 26:11

Mr. Greg Anderson has less experience in state government than Mr. Shane Massey. Being an attorney for the Town of Edgefield, Johnston, and the ECSD does not give him any valuable experience to be a State Senator, accept maybe for Parlamentarian procedures.
Mr. Massey has gained invaluable experience over the last year that he has served the fine people of the 25th district. Mr. Anderson has no experience as a state senator. We don't need a Senator-in-Training representing the fine people of the 25th district. Mr. Anderson's coffers have been filled with American-hating, liberal trial lawyers who want to make sure that tort litigation laws can be changed in their favor.
We don't need a representative in Columbia who has the ear of Richard Harpootlian. We need a Senator with conservative values like Mr. Massey. As far as I can discern, Mr. Anderson will want to raise our taxes to proceed with his liberal agenda. If you are a true conservative, who loves America, and does not want our state taxes increased, vote for Shane Massey to be our representative of the 25th district.

In reference to this comment made:"The only reason why we don’t here from the other churches is that they keep there business to them selves and handle there problems as they surface. (HINT)"

It's easy to accuse the church members of gossip, but have you ever been to a service at Mt. Cannan? Have you ever been to revival with Rev. Brightharp?  HE is the one telling the church's business. HE is the one telling his side of the story to non-members and area churches.  Not one Sunday since September has he gotten in the pulpit to actually preach the word of God to lead us into unity. Altar calls are about how HE wishes  who HE could pick  and choose who should  go to hell, how sorry his congregation is to let something like this happen to the pastor, how the church is going to pay for his lawyers fees.  He brought this on himself. All he had to do was leave with dignity. He said he would not split the church and leave when asked. He chose not to do that. There are so many people who have made him a demi-God and have put him before God himself.  The same people who profess to be Christians and represent for the church Pastor's Aide Club, are the same people you find cussing and ranting and raving on the church grounds. If  that's who he wants by his side, then the "Club" name fits accordingly.
He is only man. He has served his purpose and now it is time to move on.
For those of us who have small children to raise, is this the kind of behavior that we want to display for them? He preaches about our youth and how important it is for them to know how to act in church. He calls them out for chewing gum, walking down the wrong aisle or falling asleep during his sermons.  What about when the deacon's wife was cussing?
Is that acceptable behavior for our youth? What kind of example are we setting if we can't even go to church for fear of what our children may see and hear?
"More strength is found in the ability to be flexible  than in stubborn determination. Lord, when life makes extra demands on me, guide me and help me to adapt easily to the necessary changes for the best results."

Massey, I have spoken to Mr. Anderson who stated he did not want his supporters to turn negative or attack Sen. Massey. Though I will never reveal the identity of a poster, I can say that the comment did not come from a member of Sen. Massey's team. People are free to say what they will and it is wrong to place an individual's comments upon a candidate, regardless of who it is. Just food for thought. I have nothing but the greatrest respect for both Sen. Shane Massey and Greg Anderson. This is one race that no matter who is elected, the voting pubic wins.

I hope voters will stick to the issues, but you are free to state your views unedited.

In other news, be assured that County Councilman Norman Dorn's problems will continue to expand. Even though I expect Solicitor Donnie Myers' Office to refuse to persue crimnal charges against Dorn in his most recent (recorded) tirade, they will not be able to ignore what is coming. I guess in the end Donnie Myers and his appointees will look as stupid as he did when he claimed he wasn't drunk when he got arrested in NC for DUI.

I feel so much better knowing we have an elected convicted drunk driver investgating another elected official for possible slander. I see no problems there... Maybe Greg Anderson missed his true calling.

I guess he wasn't paying attention to the millions Ryan B and his employer will be paying out after his rants on public officials, and a local radio talk show host. Isn't it odd however that in this case, the 'Race card" hasn't been played by the parties involved. No way, that wouldn't be the issue if the tables were turned. Was Edgefield or Johnston not good enough for him? Greg had opportunities like that but stayed here and has always been there for us. If Shane loves this district so much why did choose to go to Aiken? When it is time to vote about something he gets members and some not members that have not been to church in months or years to vote so that the vote can go his way. He decides who can become a Deacon, He decides who can become a Trustee, he decides who can come to preach or speak at the church programs, he decides what auxiliary group can do or not do. He is a control FREAK! He says he doesn't have to follow court order, they have no jurisdiction over Mt. Canaan Church. Is he crazy everyone must abide by the law. He thinks he is judge and jury, and above the law. He needs to be stopped by the church congregation, or the LAW. This must come to an end, it has been going on long enough. I think the members have suffered e nough.

Mt Canaan is no worst than any other church. In order to fix the problems you need to face the problems. The only reason why we don’t here from the other churches is that they keep there business to them selves and handle there problems as they surface. (HINT)

My Mom always have said what goes in this house stays in this house. When the members start discussing the problems that goes on in there house about time it comes back the story is told so many ways you don’t know who is telling the truth.Mt Canaan

You all need to sit down an face the problem and then fix it. And to Pastor Brightharp you half to also come with a listening heart and here everybody side instead of thinking a certain group or certain person is always right. It is not your church or the congregation it is God’s house and you all need to act like it. God has already showed the community he called 7 people in one day in a matter of an hour apart.  WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He can CLEAN HIS HOUSE UP!!!

To those who are waiting to be “led by God” or “hear what God is saying” regarding the sad church situations at both Mt. Canaan and (another church) need only look no further than 1 Timothy 3:1-7.

God has already spoken very clearly and very plainly to all who are willing to hear Him. Unless and until not only these two churches fall full and complete obedience and all others in the Christian faith who are like them, there is not much hope of anything changing anytime soon. That is the Gospel truth.

How much does it cost to get the black vote in Edgefield County?  According to Greg Anderson's latest state filing for expenses that he had prior to the June 10 primary: $1,500.  Who did he pay that amount to?  None other than Johnston's Tommy Burton.  See for yourself at http://www.sc.gov/PublicReporting/IndividualCandidate/ViewReport.aspx.  I'm sure Greg and Tommy will tell us that this $1,500 "consultation" fee was nothing more than getting great political advice (wink, wink).

Editor's note: An arrest does not mean he goes to jail, other than when he is formally charged. If charged and convicted he could face up to one year in jail, a fine of up to $5,000, or both. This does not include damages from a civil action that can be filed.

The Rev. G.L.Brightharp likes to intimidate and threaten his members. If you don't agree with everything he says, you are on his list. It's his way or the highway. He does not like being told that you disagree with him, or you have other ideas about the matter of church business. He likes to be in control of everyone and everything. It's all about POWER that he has over Mt. Canaan Church. He stands in the pulpit on Sunday morning spitting out his vile about the members of the church, and will bless the congregation out also. He has totally split the church,Deacon against Deacon, Trustee against Trustee, Families against Families,Husband against Wives plus alot of the members there are his relativies, and they are against each other. Membership is down, our church offerings are down, spirits are down, and members not even speaking to one another. The Rev. Brightharp won't even meet with his joint board to iron out the problems at the church, to try and bring the church together. He has even been ordered by the court to do so and stood in the church and said he will not meet with his officers of the church, does this sound like a man of GOD? GOD says to LOVE one another, and to FORGIVE one another, but that is not being preached or done at Mt. Canaan Baptitst Church.

His voters certainly don't use computers (or read) because, they would have written (Edgfld Daily.com) their counter-defenses supporting their main-man Bro Dorn. Bro Dorn is only the tip of the Idiot iceberg in this county doing damage. He is joined at the top of the chart by the school Board's Mo-Town-Fo. All of these clowns are sucking off our tax dollars while performing as inept representatives for our county. If people don't get out and vote, then our county suffers with these caliber of morons. Pit bulls are not vicious by nature but people can make them that way. Pit bulls can actually make great family dogs if raised properly.  If the dog is raised around children, they actually make great family dogs.  They have a high pain tolerance, so they don't get upset when children pull on their ears and such. Unfortunately the high pain tolerance also makes them great fighting dogs because they don't give up. You can't condemn a whole breed for the actions of a small percentage of the dogs.  If you are raised to fight, then you are going to fight. Your comment: Nominate him as a committee chairperson for the Obama Presidential campaign in Edgefield County (in reference to Bozo Dorn)

Response: I think it would be more appropriate to nominate him as committee chairperson for the McCain presidential campaign in Edgefield County. They both are blundering public speakers. They both have foot in mouth disease. Watch any video of John McCain answering the question about why some insurance companies pay for Viagra and not birth control. McCain's blundering response is laughable just like Norman "Bozo" Dorn. Just because both [Dorn and Obama] are black you make others assume they have the same agenda. You and Monroe Kneece are both Caucasians so you must agree on everything and have the same agenda also. Why don't you become Monroe's committee chairperson for his re-election campaign. If Dorn is re-elected to County Council, then your wife will have to serve with him. Gonna make for some nice conversations between the two, wouldn't you say. By the way, have you and Everette Kitchens gotten together lately and chewed the fat? You are both
white, so you both must have many things in common.

Editor's note: Isn't Obama half white? Maybe more "white" than "black"? What does he know about the struggle of the "black man" when he was raised in a rich white home and went to Ivy League Schools? Yup, he needs to be President, after all, he has been in the US Senate about 150 days when he ran. Forget about his 20 year attendance at a black church where Rev. Wright preached whites were satan, his latest "spiritual advisor" who states that all whites should give up their 401K's and savings to blacks, and even had (so-called) Rev. Jessie Jackson wanting to cut his "nuts" out.

What a wonderful "unifier" Barack Obama is. Maybe he will name Hillary Clinton as his Vice-presidental running mate. If so and elected - the Secret Service better protect him from Hillary, not radical whites. Or, maybe that is what they should protect him from.

How can I get the sheriff's department to patrol Garrett Rd. on the weekends? We have tons of bikers racing down the road all day long. They pass you on the curves, they flaunt that they could care less about the kids we have in the car and the danger they put us in when they fly up and down the road. One of them has already been killed doing this. What is it going to take before they do something about it? Can you help?

Editor's note: I have made the problem painfully obvious for years. The bikers ride a circle from Hyw. 28 down Woodlawn Road, up Martintown Road, then down Garrett Road and completing the circle again on Woodlawn. It is obvious when 10, 20, or 30 bikers will take a break at Sportsman's Corner during their rides. With the Sheriff's Office understaffed and the SC Highway Patrol unable to cover side roads, those responsible are basically untouchable. Over the years it seems they have learned this. Why fear getting caught when no one is going to be there to arrest you?

When my brother had his car accident the Editor was the first person to show up. He crawled into the vehicle with my brother and (provided first aid) until the EMTs arrived over 10 minutes later to get him out of the truck. He did not take the first picture until my brother was loaded into the ambulance and on his way to the hospital. Want another example?? A friend of mine was also in a car accident a while back; her car rolled over and her arm was pinned under the car. Once again, the Editor was among the first to show up. No pictures were taken until she was in the helicopter and on her way to the hospital. ARE WE SEEING A PATTERN HERE?!?! Even if he did “just” put a bandaid on someone, this paper came in second compared to someone that was injured. So back off.  There are more important things to b**** about.

The EPD did file an affidavit for an arrest warrant for an elected official this week, but the Magistrate Judge involved suggested SLED be the filing agency. That is a shame. SLED can't get the results of evidence from a murder back to Edgefield County from two weeks ago, I wonder how slow they will be in this particular case. It seems to me that if the Edgefield Police Department has enough evidence for a warrant, it should be granted. It is a shame that our local judicial system seems to be bogged down in CYA and political correctness. The good news, things may change sooner than later. Why did the cursing trustee's  family members return to the church? To help him fight? Silly me. They came

On the Fourth of July, I drove up Curtis Creek Road in Pisgah National Forest near Old Fort, NC. The entire area was infested with illegal immigrants, undocumented aliens, guest workers or whatever you want to call them, They were taking up more than half of the available roadside sites. I observed them washing clothes and bathing in the creek and wondered about the amount of human waste being deposited on the land.

I also found myself thinking that this was no longer a safe place to camp, given the large number of criminals that come from this demographic and wondered if the Immigration and Naturalization Service was aware of the annexation of this part of our public lands by elements of the "Reconquista."

I lamented the fact that on this Independence Day there was so much evidence that we are selling, ceding, and idly watching our as our lands, our heritage, our liberties and our future are vanishing before our eyes as we slide closer to becoming like the corrupt third world countries whose people we do nothing from colonizing us.

Worse, we are about to elect as our next president someone who will only accelerate the decline, regardless of who wins.

Soon, the American people will have to act because the politicians won't. Either that or learn Spanish and get used to poverty and squalor.

Editor's note: The US Congress is looking out for the US Congress and not the people. Each party looks at the illegals as future voters to be bought through give-aways of your tax dollars. Pushed mainly by Democrats, but ever increasingly supported by more and more Republicans.

Remember, politicians did not set America free from the UK, it was the everyday citizen. If you are looking for Washington DC or any Presidential candidate to protect this Republic, you can forget it.

Mt. Canaan Baptist Church continues to struggle with court rulings, laws, and unity.  The court order from the judge doesn't mean anything according to Rev. George L. Brightharp. According to Rev. Brightharp, only he can call meetings at the church.   The man of the cloth continues to place himself and a few others above the law and the bylaws of the church.  Law Enforcement was called to the church on Sunday. Four letter words were used as a common language by some appointed officers of the church on Sunday.  Who would have thought the Mother Church of the area and community could get to this low point under the leadership of the Honorable Rev. George L. Brightharp.  This is another demonstration that Rev. George L. Brightharp  is not a man of his word nor of the law.

Editor's note: The members of the Edgefield County EMS and Merriwether Fire Department did a wonderful job. I did not take a single photo until every person that was involved was safely on their way to MCG. The photos were taken almost an hour and half after the crash even though I arrived on the scene within one minute of the call being dispatched. I have priorities, taking photos is not one of them.

If Norman Dorn is allowed to get away with the slandering of our editor, then he has free reign to say anything about anybody at council meetings. Yes Bro Norm is an embarrassment to himself, and anything he comes in contact with. If he has a college degree, then there is hope for Bro Bibbs who is in the same intellectual category. And where are supporting responses in Wandering Minds from Bro Dorn's supporters? Surly, One of them must know how to read and write. Or maybe his supporters can be found in the cemetery where their names are used to register as a Democrat? And, people ask why no industry locates to Edgefield county? That is because Bro Norm is the Poster child for idiocy in our county and industry moves elsewhere.

We were at Sportsman's Corner when a really bad wreck happened (Friday). We came out of the store and people were screaming for someone to call 911. We went over to see if we could help and a woman was holding this little baby that looked like it was dead and I started crying and turned around and made my husband drive me home. Do you know if the baby is ok and were the people trapped in the car alive?

Editor's note: All seven people injured in the collision were alive when they were transported to the MCG Trauma Unit. There were three critically injured; one of the infants, the mother (the driver) and the boyfriend (front seat passenger) all in the Intrepid (Airlifted). The infant, by information obtained at the scene, was not restrained and was being fed at the time of the crash. The front seat passenger was wearing a seatbelt as it had to be cut during the extrication to allow him to be moved. I have no information on anyone else in the car as far as restraints.

I have a standing message with the Edgefield County Coroner for information if any of the occupants became a fatality and as of 2:55 am today I have not received any calls. That is a good thing.

The two teens in the Tahoe were suffering from minor injuries. The teen in the Intrepid also suffered minor injuries. The second infant - I do not have information on but I do not think the injuries were serious.

I was at the accident at Sportsmans today and it was really bad. I’ve never seen that many people hurt so bad. I saw all the news people standing around taking pictures of the blood and gore so they could make the news exciting I guess. I saw (the Editor) there but he didn’t have a camera he was in the car helping the people that were trapped. He was right there with all the other firemen and I saw him help several people and never saw him take any pictures. He was one of the first people that got there even before the fire dept. I’m sure there will be a story on it Saturday but even if it don’t have pictures I wanted to say thank you for everything you did. Everybody there did a great job and the ambulance people, the firemen, everybody worked like an army and you could tell everybody knew what they were doing and they worked great together. I still can’t believe nobody died.

Editor’s note: My duty in a situation such as that is as a First Responder. I did very little compared to the outstanding patient care and actions of the men and women of the Merriwether Fire Department and the Edgefield County EMS. They are the professionals and they saved the lives. They were calm, cool, and methodical in safely extricating those entrapped in the Intrepid. There were First Responders from another area that just happened to be there and they did a fantastic job as well. I wish I knew where they were from so I could give them credit for their help. I did take photos once all of the injured had been removed from the scene.

I thank you for your kind comments.

Editor's post: I have been in contact with Harcourt Bull III, Treasurer, of the Edgefield County Players. This is his response to the recent claims:

Dear Editor:
In response to several comments in the Wandering Minds section of Edgefield Daily during this past week, I am pleased to inform you and your readers that the Edgefield County Players, which was duly
chartered as a South Carolina charitable organization, currently has a bank balance of $1,485.92.  Under the By-Laws of our organization and the South Carolina laws governing charitable organizations, the funds contributed to this organization through membership dues or charitable contributions must be used for the purposes intended or, in the event of dissolution of the organization, the funds must be
given to another qualified non-profit organization with similar objectives.  Therefore, no contributions can be returned to donors.

It is my hope, and the hope of many of our members, that at some point in the not-distant future, the Edgefield County Players will be able to work with other organizations in the County to realize our
dream of having a first class theater developed in our County.  We hope that you and all of your readers will come to appreciate how much such a facility would contribute to the quality of life in Edgefield County.

Sincerely,
Harcourt Bull III, Treasurer
Edgefield County Players

Editor's note: That may be fine and dandy, but if the funds were solicited with the claim that if it did not go forward the money would be returned, somebody has some explaining to do. I am still digging.

As for Norman’s Rant Monroe Should not have allowed him to discuss Personnel Business and that it is what is was and is.  The Rant has a place in public but not when it is time to do Edgefield County Business. It is a shame that the no one in Monroe’s District would run for the GOP.  That is the best chance of cleaning out the council.

Editor's note: I do not want to "jump the gun" but I am told by ranking law enforcement that what County Councilman Norman Dorn did was not only slander but may also be a criminal offense. I will leave that determination to them. For now I will sit back and let things move forward accordingly.

After reading about the future increase in sewer rates, I wanted to offer a couple suggestions as to how the ECW&SA can cut expenses rather than raise rates.  One, I know everyone has driven by a work site where the water and sewer authority are "working" and seen maybe two men working and the other three to five men "overseeing".  Cut out all but one overseer and save thousands of dollars each year!!!  Second, park the county vehicles on the yard each night.  They should not be used for personal use.  Anyone dropping off a child at Parker, has seen a Water and Sewer Authority employee dropping off a child there in the mornings.  What would it cost the county if this child were injured in a wreck!!!  Also last Sunday an ECW&SA pickup was parked right in front of CVS.  I wonder if they had a water or sewer problem about noon??  I doubt it.

If the board overseeing the water authority would put their foot down and hold the line on expenses, there would be no need for any increase in prices for water or sewage for years to come.  Run it like a business, it is one!!!

We’re thankful that someone like the edgefielddaily finally got the (guts) to let us know what’s been going on in the county that’s been covered up for years. What’s being said about you is very much true. When my children were in your class, after a couple of days they came home and asked to be removed from your class. At the time all you talked about was your house (deleted), your cars (deleted); I removed them each time one was placed in your class.

Back to the subject at hand: the only time we see you in our neighborhood or churches is when its time to vote. You don’t care about the people, you just care about your 4 and no more (maybe I should say – you and your light bulb son). (deleted) Your time has come to step down gracefully, please do so and stop showing us who you really are. By the way, this comment didn’t come from the editor – it came from me!

To the editor: Thank you so much for printing just what we express - even though you take away some of the better words or make it sound better. Don’t pay any attention to Dorn; he was only describing himself when he tried to point you out. He’s never had anyone to tell it like it is before until now. It’s been a year now since the fire over at the neighborhood center, what if anything have they decided what happened that night? We have heard that the alarm system was working but was accidental turned off by one of the employees of the senior citizen council. Is there any word to truth about this? Other agencies in the building (at the day questioned) say it was being tested and was working fine we they left. Seems strange the ECSSC is the only one with a building and none of the other officers have a new building(s). Why didn’t they let the other offices move in with them? There has been so many rumors going around about what happened but we haven’t heard anything else since the fire. Why has it been so hush, hush? Can anyone comment on this?

Editor's note: The fire investigation did not show any cause that I am aware of. There are conflicting reports on the fire alarm situation. The last I heard was that the system was turned off at the time of the fire, but I have nothing in the official record to that effect.

I think the general point was missed that the poster was trying to make when "defending" the garbage man. The poster said that they didnt know this garbage man. The point was that "being beaten by a garbage man" was an offensive statement to ALL garbage men who do this job HONESTLY for an honest days pay. I do not in anyway believe this poster was trying to defend the "garbage man" in question, as they plainly stated that they DID NOT know this person. To lump this apparent scum bag in with all the honest laborers out there in such a condescending and snobby tone is an injustice to all the hard working garbage men, janitors, and any other jobs the editor or others may think of as not good enough. I do believe this has all been taken out of context and think that yes, an apology is owed to garbage men and hard laborers as a whole - not the particular man in question. I am sure there are very qualified sanitation workers, which I believe is the correct term, that could rightfully beat the pants off of a person such as the one in question, whether he was a garbage man himself or an attorney.

Editor's note: I apologize to garbage men for comparing them to former county councilmen Danny Bishop. They deserve better.

Brave men and women of all races have died so that people in this country have the right to vote. It is a shame that so many people have wasted this blood fought right by casting their lot with someone like Dorn. A divider, not a uniter. The publication of the truth about him and the rest of the cronies on the Edgefield County Council must have hit a nerve. There is a bad smell coming from Council chambers and I know what it is. How would Norman Dorn know what is being said at EdgefieldDaily.com if he wasn't reading it himself?  So, I guess in his own ignorant way, he's calling himself a crook too.  (removed)  As far as I'm concerned, if Norman Dorn is breathing he is (not a nice word).

Maybe you should sue him.  What a shame he has the county attorney, administrator and chairman by the short hairs. It would be nice if one of these men grew a backbone.

I am ready for a change in the leadership in Edgefield County and cannot wait for these idiots to be private citizens again.

Edgefield Daily will be around long after Norman Dorn is history.

Editor's note: I do not appreciate being called a liar, a crook, and other names by a county councilman during a county council meeting while acting in his official capacity as an elected official with a large audience of people.  Mr. Dorn called me by name, pointed out to the people in the room where I was sitting, asked them to look at me, while he, in my opinion, slandered me. That was not very smart.

County Council Chairman Monroe Kneece has already been contacted regarding Mr. Dorn's actions at the meeting.

Well, let me take that back… he works hard to continue brown nosing Fox Creek’s Athletic Director. That must be awful tiring but still does not make him a laborer. What money he does earn from driving the trash truck isn’t enough to support his family. It’s Mrs. Bishop’s family that supplies the money. And those people are a whole different kind of crooked.

Editor's post: Well, here we go again. Norman Dorn wanted to show his (rear end) again, this time by slandering (from the county council bench) the Editor of EdgefieldDaily.com and even calling our readers "crooks". Granted, I do not want to pay too much to show how this sorry excuse for a county councilman is by providing bandwidth for his inarticulate rantings, but since I cannot quote him due to his inability to speak plain English, this is the only way to let him have his say. (Audio recording - 380k media file) Remember, this man is a retired "educator" in Edgefield County.

Yes, I believe Norman Dorn is a foolish, inarticulate, sorry excuse for a county councilman. That is my God given right. According to the recent primary vote count, an overwhelming majority of voters agreed and voted against him even though he barely won the Democrat primary. I guess those who voted against him are "crooks" too. Black and white.

What a complete embarrassment Dorn is to District 1 and the county as a whole. I wonder if his son will start calling me again making vulgar and violent threats?  His previous calls were so entertaining. Maybe I will place them online just for kicks. Then again, if I deleted the curse words and vulgar language it would be a very short call and would not make any sense.

Kind of like Norman Dorn - short, and makes no sense.

Americans better wake up and see what is going on around them and to them. The Supreme Court's recent gun ruling is an affront to all law-abiding, gun owning citizens. The arrogance that they displayed
when they barely upheld the constitution was mind-boggling. The second amendment was intended to act as a defense against government run amok. We are seeing a lot of this in the news today. This ruling is an example. Everyone should buy a box of shells each paycheck. When the government shuts down ammunition factories, our guns will be as much good as a baseball bat. Another useless suggestion by the Council.  I'd vote for term limits.  I surely do not want them to feel as if they are safe for four years.  Their actions are bad enough with two year terms.  Oh well same old same old.  I guess the lame ducks are trying to save the remaining members.  For free entertainment, attend the council meetings.  You will not be disappointed with this group.

1. I love Here's Your Card. It reminds us that some people are still idiots.
2. I cannot believe our school district paid 8000.00 to create a curriculum pacing guide. You know, I am a teacher and I never heard of it at all. The upper echelon must have only asked certain teachers.
3. I am sitting on pins and needles waiting to see who the ECBOE is going to choose as our new principal.
4. Some Edgefield residents do need to use more than spell check when they post for Wandering Minds. It makes our county look ignorant and backwards when we are posting responses that are misspelled and incorrectly punctuated. I don't blame you for not correcting spelling. It is the
responsiblity of the poster.5. I am enjoying my summer. I dread having to go back to school. On the other hand, I love my job and cannot wait to meet my new students.

I do not personally know the Kitchens family or the Bishops, but your response about being beaten by a garbage man is unnecessary. Being a garbage man may not be the one you or many others would want, but it is one that performs a valuable service and it is honest work. Better to be a garbage man than one who is too lazy to work and depends on the taxpayers for support. I think you owe common laborers an apology.

Editor's note: Maybe you should know that a particular "garbage man" was able to get the tipping fees for his company removed so he could make more money. So much for "honest work". I owe no one an apology.

FCHS isn't "draining " resources from the District's coffer as much as the ECSB. One example is the increase in the starting wages to new  high-level administrators. One example of this would be the increased salary of the new Title One administrator, just the increase in salary this one employee recieved would almost pay the salary of the teacher not being replaced at MES. I realize some people woud like to blame all the District's finacial problems on FCHS, but the truth is they only recieve the monies that are allowed for their students.

I recently drove through Edgefield just last week, and was disturb by the Blue Collar gentlemen standing on the sidewalk across from the newspaper building, and across from the library, directly on the sidewalk where pedstrians cross over to reach the opposite side, drinking Budlights in bottles. I could have reached out of my car window and touch one of them, they were so close to the road. This is an outrage!!! Why does this type of partying is aloud in town? Use plastic,styrophone..

These people that write in to say that 'your stupid', 'your an idiot', and 'your wrong' are showing their own ignorance by using improper grammar.  The word your is a possessive pronoun that refers to something that a person has or something that belongs to the person in the discussion.  The correct word should be 'you're' which is the contraction for 'you are'.  If you want to write about somebody being stupid or an idiot, you would certainly sound more credible if you used the proper words.

About the 2nd amendment; it was written over 200 years ago.  At that time, the country's first army was just being formed and the defense of the country still rested mainly with the militia which was a volunteer army.  The militia was comprised of regular people who took up their arms to fight for what they felt was theirs.  Remember, it was the militia men who fought against the British during the Revolutionary War since the colonies had no official army of their own.  I sure am glad that those men owned guns.

Editor's Post: I would like say I support and agree with Councilman Kitchens' reported comments of him not being a painted white faced clown...
