who is working for who? (legal documents pdf file provided by reader naming Mike Reed, Edgefield County Building Director, part time tax assessor employee, and general contractor or 'supervisor' for the Calliham Project in his former capacity as Aiken County Tax Assessor).

Editor's note: Mr. Reed is currently suing Aiken County for a "hostile work environment" during his tenure there and then sought to be considered for rehire even after accepting his current job in Edgefield County.

Really, the honest new management at NWTF?  Really, GT makes 66K? Ha!  That means that ALL of the management staff makes more than him?  Really?  And, the honest numbers?  Make sure you read their last printed numbers in the Nov/Dec Turkey Call magazine- Both the last # and average #'s are the same?  (Removed) get real NWTF!

OMG!  I've never posted here before but I couldn't resist this one.  The elderly couple must have been smoking a lot of their pot before they went to their daughter and son-in-laws house with weapons.  Did they not believe the police would end up at their house and find their crop?  Stupid criminal stories - you can't make them up this good.

Editor's note: It is an alleged assault and the plants are "believed" to be marijuana.

(Re:) Eagle Rd. murder investigation:

I disagree with you regarding this case. The sheriff's office is not going to solve Mr. Sanders murder. They aren't trying and they aren't focused on the murder. They are focused on the very little amount of drugs and cash found at the scene and want to make a drug bust.

As far as the sensitivity of this case goes, NO ONE has been sensitive to Mr. Sanders family or his girlfriend. Why is she not referred to as a victim in this case? Even the editor calls her 'the girlfriend of the victim'. She was in the house and witnessed her boyfriend's murder. She is mourning a huge loss in her life while being harrassed and disrespected by the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office on almost a daily basis.

The 250 word limit doesn't allow me to list the numerous inappropriate things that were said or happened at the scene that night and continue to happen today. Everyone from the deputies, investigators, EMS and the coroner's office were unprofessional though and I hope the family holds them ALL responsible. It may have been just another bad night at the office for them but that is not the case for the victim. Her life was changed forever by that night and she did nothing wrong. When the sheriff's office realizes that, THEN the case MIGHT get somewhere. Until then this case will remain COLD.

The last time I had to call the sheriff's office, there was no crime but I thought I may need help with a situation on my property, they were nothing but a burden. (A Deputy) was one of the officers that answered my call and I was shocked by his lack of professionalism and with the ridiculous things he said to me. Three deputies came to my house that day....ONE of them was fit enough to run a 100 meter race. What does that say? If they don't care about themselves, how can they care about anyone else?

Editor's note: The girlfriend is not considered a victim in reporting standards because she was not harmed and therefore becomes a witness to the crime against the victim, who was killed. I have full faith the killer will be arrested in this case. Not all crimes are solved before the commercial break. This is real life.

I am not sure how you compare a non-criminal call and response to that of a murder investigation. That is a grape to coconut comparison.

If SC high schools could not practice football until Friday: http://chronicle.augusta.com/sports/2010-07-30/south-aiken-holds-midnight-football-practice  why has Strom Thurmond's teams been working out for weeks now, they had the past couple weeks off from what I understand, but they started right after school let out. Does anyone know the details of this and why they would practice if they were not supposed to? Thanks.

I have a problem with my insurance paying any time I have a procedure (x-ray, blood tests, sonogram, etc.) performed at Edgefield County Hospital.  If I go to the Imaging Center at University hospital I only
have to pay a co-pay but EVERY TIME I go to our local hospital for tests I have to pay the full amount which is at least 10 times my initial co-pay.  I've talked to others and they have the same problem; I've
talked to the billing dept. at the hospital and they say it is out of their hands.  I've talked to BCBS and THEY say it is because it is filed under "out patient" procedures.  I would like to know if this is
wide-spread and why the hospital is not interested in correcting?  They would have more business if we felt comfortable that our health insurance would cover the costs.

Jesse Jackson has added former Chicago Democrat Congressman Mel to Rainbow/PUSH Coalition's payroll.
Reynolds was among the 176 criminals excused in President Clinton's last-minute forgiveness spree.
Reynolds received a commutation of his six-and-a-half-year federal sentence for 15 convictions of wire fraud, bank fraud, and lies to the Federal Election Commission. He is more notorious, however, for concurrently serving
five years for sleeping with an underage campaign volunteer.

This is a first in American politics: An ex-congressman who had sex with a subordinate....won clemency from a president who had sex with a subordinate...then was hired by a clergyman who had sex with a subordinate!

There is a huge amount of propaganda and myths circulating about illegal aliens, particularly illegal Mexican, Salvadorian, Guatemalan, and Honduran aliens.

#1. Illegal aliens generally do NOT want US citizenship. Americans are very vain thinking that everybody in the world wants to be a US citizen. Mexicans, and other nationalities want to remain citizens of their home countries while obtaining the benefits offered by the United States such as employment, medical care, instate tuition, government subsidized housing and free education for their offspring. Their main attraction is employment and their loyalty usually remains at home. They want benefits earned and subsidized by middle class Americans. What illegal aliens want are benefits of American residence without paying the price.

#2. There are no jobs that Americans won't do. Illegal aliens are doing jobs that Americans can't take and still support their families. Illegal aliens take low wage jobs, live dozens in a single residence home, share expenses and send money to their home country. There are no jobs that Americans won't do for a decent wage.

#3. Every person who illegally entered this nation left a home. They are NOT homeless and they are NOT Americans. Some left jobs in their home countries. They come to send money to their real home as evidenced by the more than 20 billion dollars sent out of the country each year by illegal aliens. These illegal aliens knowingly and willfully entered this nation in violation of the law and therefore assumed the risk of detection and deportation. Those who brought their alien children assumed the responsibility and risk on behalf of their children.

#4. Illegal aliens are NOT critical to the economy. Illegal aliens constitute less than 5% of the workforce. However, they reduce wages and benefits for lawful US residents.

#5. This is NOT an immigrant nation. There are 280 million native born Americans. While it is true that this nation was settled and founded by immigrants (legal immigrants), it is also true that there is not a nation on this planet that was not settled by immigrants at one time or another.

#6. The United States is welcoming to legal immigrants. Illegal aliens are not immigrants by definition. The US accepts more lawful immigrants every year than the rest of the world combined.

#7. There is no such thing as the "Hispanic vote." Hispanics are white, brown, black and every shade in between. Hispanics are Republicans, Democrats, Anarchists, Communists, Marxists and Independents. The so-called "Hispanic vote" is a myth. Pandering to illegal aliens to get the Hispanic vote is a dead end.

#8. Mexico is NOT a friend of the United States . Since 1848 Mexicans have resented the United States . During World War I Mexico allowed German Spies to operate freely in Mexico to spy on the US . During World War II Mexico allowed the Axis powers to spy on the US from Mexico . During the Cold War Mexico allowed spies hostile to the US to operate freely. The attack on the Twin Towers in 2001 was cheered and applauded all across Mexico . Today Mexican school children are taught that the US stole California , Arizona , New Mexico and Texas . If you don't believe it, check out some Mexican textbooks written for their school children.

#9. Although some illegal aliens enter this country for a better life, there are 6 billion people on this planet. At least 1 billion of those live on less than one dollar a day. If wanting a better life is a valid excuse to break the law and sneak
into America , then let's allow those one billion to come to America and we'll turn the USA into a Third World nation overnight. Besides, there are 280 million native born Americans who want a better life. I'll bet Bill Gates and Donald Trump want a better life. When will the USA lifeboat be full? Since when is wanting a better
life a good reason to trash another nation?

#10. There is a labor shortage in this country. This is a lie. There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of American housewives, senior citizens, students,
unemployed and underemployed who would gladly take jobs at a decent wage.

#11. It is racist to want secure borders. What is racist about wanting secure borders and a secure America ? What is racist about not wanting people to sneak into America and steal benefits we have set aside for legal aliens, senior citizens, children and other legal residents? What is it about race that entitles people to violate our laws, steal identities, and take the American Dream without paying the price? For about four decades American politicians have refused to secure our borders and look after the welfare of middle class Americans. These politicians have been of both parties. A huge debt to American society has resulted. This debt will be satisfied and the interest will be high. There has already been riots in the streets by illegal aliens and their supporters. There will be more. You, as a politician, have a choice to offend the illegal aliens who have stolen into this country and demanded the rights afforded to US citizens or to offend those of us who are stakeholders in this country. The interest will be steep either way. There will be civil unrest. There will be a reckoning. Do you have the courage to do what is right for America ? Or, will you bow to the wants and needs of those who don't even have the right to remain here? There will be a reckoning.

It will come in November of this year, again in 2012 and yet again in 2014. We will not allow America to be stolen by third world agitators and thieves.

Let's get this straight...Our new county manager wants to put in a HUGE taxing mechanism for county businesses...The same manager, only on the job a few months, who has already charged council members with a hostile work environment...Sounds like this dog ain't gonna hunt...Nuff said.

About the new county business taxes...What a joke...Mr. Dorn can't even get an outhouse built with public money on private land...Hey Norman, how's your outhouse coming along?

Mr. Bright...have we figured out about the concession stand at Bettis Academy yet...have we got ANY kind of accounting going on there...maybe the county should sell that $60,000 concession stand...after all it's still on wheels...just inflate the tires and roll that sucker off...see who hollers the loudest...THEN we may get some knowlwdge about who's getting the money and how much.

Mr. Kneece...You seem to know how to get things built without county council approval...Why don't you get Norman Dorn's outhouse done and build Willie Bright a concession stand...You could use all that NEW BUSINESS TAX money...We're definitely gonna need it

Edgefield County seems to be on a path of self destruction. I have no idea why. It seems counterproductive and will lead us to being regarded as a county to stay away from.... if our current county council has not done enough to that end. I operate in several counties and have been asked countless times why on earth I would want to be based in Edgefield County because of our reputation. I am running out of excuses and am getting tired of trying to come up with them.

Editor's note: I will never stop defending Edgefield County. This is my home and I love this county and our citizens. However, I cannot defend those who rule over the county as if they are appointed rulers, not elected officials. Until the voters rise up and cast off those who think they own this county and replace them with elected officials who care about the county, not their elected positions, nothing is going to change. The voters will have another chance to do so in November, let's hope they take advantage of it and move our county forward. They failed to do so in June.

I've read all the reports about them (Sheriff's Investogators) following leads about the murder on Eagle Rd. but nobody is arrested and it is the same stuff over and over. If they don't have any clues at least be honest enough to say so or are you covering for your buddies there.

Editor's note: A murder investigation is a very sensitive matter. At this time all I can say is I have full faith that the case will be solved and the person or persons responsible will be brought to justice. I will also say that if I am the victim of a crime I hope it happens in Edgefield County. The Sheriff's Office is composed of professionals who take the job seriously and they solve the majority of the crimes they investigate.

I would like to comment on the poster saying there is no difference between building a mosque at the 9/11 site and building churches. First, you are an idiot. These terrorists build the mosques as a sign of their victory over their enemy. In case you have been asleep for hundreds of years, we are their enemy. I guess we should build one at Ft. Hood Texas and Times Square too. You sound like a true liberal appeaser. I actually heard someone from the news say that if you don’t count Ft. Hood, Times Sq. and the pany bomber, there haven’t been any terrorist attacks in America since Obama has been president. How stupid it that? “uh, if you don’t count the terrorist attacks we’ve been having, we haven’t had any”…God help us, nobody else seems to be able to.

RE: "Editor's note: Is it the same thing? In the other instances you talk about individuals that acted as individuals on an individual. The attacks on 9/11were political and a direct attack on our nation and our Republic. That is like saying you want to ban churches because a member of a church was convicted of robbing your home.

Of course, that is the same reaction from Obama when he banned all off shore drilling because one oil well failed. That is akin to grounding all airline flights if one plane crashes.

It is absurd."

Yes.  It is the same thing.  Religious nuts committing murder in the name of their religion.  You are excusing the Christians because you are one.

You make poor analogies too.

Re: ABC reports they can't find oil to clean up.  What's up with that someone asks?

Well first, crude oil is naturally biodegradable.  Secondly, a lot of the oil evaporated.  How fast it evaporates depends on the API gravity of the oil.  The higher the gravity, the faster it will evaporate.  The volume of oil that was flowing from the well makes me think the oil gravity was pretty high.  Thirdly, a lot of the oil will age and the natural gas that is in the oil will leach out and a lot of the oil will sink to the bottom of the gulf.  However, some of it will get to shore.  If Obama had accepted the offer of help from other countries, most of the oil that gets to shore would have been recovered before that happened.  Also if they had reacted quickly and built berms near the shoreline, most of the damage to Louisiana marshes would have been prevented.  But that would have also prevented the photo ops of him walking on a beach, and picking up a little sand and acting like he knew what he was doing from being nearly as politically effective.

The damaged well will be plugged with cement, which is why they drilled the relief well.  A well must be killed from the bottom up, and there must be some restriction at the top to control the displacement of the gas and oil in the well as they pump in cement at the bottom, which is what the cap will be used for during the kill process. The relief well will be converted to a producing well after it is used to plug the damaged well, so the oil WILL be produced.  It will not be lost.  More wells will be drilled in the area also, so the field is not lost. Everything will be alright eventually if the damn government will stay out of the equation.

BUT, remember the Democrats motto:  Never let a crisis go to waste.

In just six months, the largest tax hikes in the history of America will take effect. They will hit families and small businesses in three great waves on January 1, 2011:
      First Wave:
Expiration of 2001 and 2003 Tax Relief

In 2001 and 2003, the GOP Congress enacted several tax cuts for investors, small business owners, and families.  These will all expire on January 1, 2011:

Personal income tax rates will rise.  The top income tax rate will rise from 35 to 39.6 percent (this is also the rate at which two-thirds of small business profits are taxed).  The lowest rate will rise from 10 to 15 percent.  All the rates in between will also rise.  Itemized deductions and personal exemptions will again phase out, which has the same mathematical effect as higher marginal tax rates.  The full list of marginal rate hikes is below:

      - The 10% bracket rises to an expanded 15%
      - The 25% bracket rises to 28%
      - The 28% bracket rises to 31%
      - The 33% bracket rises to 36%
      - The 35% bracket rises to 39.6%

Higher taxes on marriage and family.
The marriage penalty (narrower tax brackets for married couples) will return from the first dollar of income.  The child tax credit will be cut in half from $1000 to $500 per child.  The standard deduction will no longer be doubled for married couples relative to the single level.  The dependent care and adoption tax credits
will be cut.

The return of the Death Tax.
This year, there is no death tax.  For those dying on or after January 1, 2011, there is a 55 percent
top death tax rate on estates over $1 million.  A person leaving behind two homes and a retirement
account could easily pass along a death tax bill to their loved ones.

Higher tax rates on savers and investors.
The capital gains tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 20 percent in 2011.  The dividends tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 39.6 percent in 2011.  These rates will rise another 3.8 percent in 2013.

      Second Wave:
      Obamacare

There are over twenty new or higher taxes in Obamacare.  Several will first go into effect on January 1, 2011.  They include:

      The Medicine Cabinet Tax
Thanks to Obamacare, Americans will no longer be able to use health savings account (HSA), flexible spending account (FSA), or health reimbursement (HRA) pre-tax dollars to purchase non-prescription,
      over-the-counter medicines (except insulin).

      The Special Needs Kids Tax
This provision of Obamacare imposes a cap on flexible spending accounts (FSAs) of $2500 (Currently, there is no federal government limit).  There is one group of FSA owners for whom this new cap will be particularly
cruel and onerous: parents of special needs children.  There are thousands of families with special needs children in the United States , and many of them use FSAs to pay for special needs education. Tuition rates at one leading school that teaches special needs children in Washington , D.C. ( National Child Research Center ) can easily exceed $14,000 per year. Under tax rules, FSA dollars can not be used to pay for this type of special needs education.

      The HSA Withdrawal Tax Hike.
This provision of Obamacare increases the additional tax on non-medical early withdrawals from an HSA from 10 to 20 percent, disadvantaging them relative to IRAs  and other tax-advantaged accounts, which remain at 10 percent.

      Third Wave:
The Alternative Minimum Tax and Employer Tax Hikes

When Americans prepare to file their tax returns in January of 2012, they'll be in for a nasty surprise the AMT won't be held harmless, and many tax relief provisions will have expired. The major items include:
The AMT  will ensnare over 28 million families, up from 4 million last year.  According to the left-leaning Tax Policy Center , Congress' failure to index the AMT will lead to an explosion of AMT taxpaying families rising from 4 million last year to 28.5 million.  These families will have to calculate their  tax burdens twice, and pay taxes at the higher level.  The AMT was created in 1969 to ensnare a handful of taxpayers.

Small business expensing will be slashed and 50% expensing will disappear.  Small businesses can normally expense (rather than slowly-deduct, or depreciate) equipment purchases up to $250,000.  This will be cut all the way down to $25,000.  Larger businesses can expense half of their purchases of equipment.  In January of 2011, all of it will have to be depreciated.

Taxes will be raised on all types of businesses. There are literally scores of tax hikes on business that will take place.  The biggest is the loss of the research and experimentation tax credit, but there are many, many others.  Combining high marginal tax rates with the loss of this tax relief will cost jobs.

Tax Benefits for Education and Teaching Reduced.
The deduction for tuition and fees will not be available.  Tax credits for education will be limited.  Teachers will no longer be able to deduct classroom expenses.  Coverdell Education Savings Accounts will be cut.  Employer-provided educational assistance is curtailed.  The student loan interest deduction will be disallowed for hundreds of thousands of families.

Charitable Contributions from IRAs no longer allowed.
Under current law, a retired person with an IRA can contribute up to $100,000 per year directly to a charity from their IRA.  This contribution also counts toward an annual required minimum distribution.  This ability will no longer be there.

Now your insurance is INCOME on your W2's......
One of the surprises we'll find come next year, is what follows - - a little "surprise" that 99% of us had no idea was included in the "new and improved" healthcare legislation . . . the dupes, er, dopes, who backed this administration will be astonished!

Starting in 2011, (next year folks), your W-2 tax form sent by your employer will be increased to show the value of whatever health insurance you are given by the company. It does not matter if that's a private concern or governmental body of some sort.  If you're retired?  So what; your gross will go up by the amount of insurance you get.  You will be required to pay taxes on a large sum of money that you have never seen.  Take your tax form you just finished and see what $15,000 or $20,000 additional gross does to your tax debt.  That's what you'll pay next year.  For many, it also puts you into a new higher bracket so it's even worse.   This is how the government is going to buy insurance for the15% that don't have insurance and it's only part of the tax increases.

Don't believe this???  Here is a research of the summaries.....

On page 25 of 29: TITLE IX REVENUE PROVISIONS- SUBTITLE A: REVENUE OFFSET PROVISIONS-(sec. 9001, as modified by sec. 10901) Sec.9002  "requires employers to include in the W-2 form of each employee the aggregate cost of applicable employer sponsored group health coverage that is excluded from the employees gross income."

Regarding the NWTF....... Considering anyone can verify through the Internet the salaries of those who work for tax exempt, 501-C organizations like the NWTF, I would doubt the present management team is trying to fool anyone.  In addition, I assure that Mr. Thorton's budget is no where near what the former CEO's was.  However, that should be of no concern, as with any non-profit CEO, the job is to raise money.  You can't do that sitting behind a desk.

Your accusation that the present managment is somehow being dishonest about the membership numbers shows that you have little to no knowledge of the past leadership at the NWTF.  In fact, the former management team loved to tell advertisers, members, and anyone who would listen that the NWTF membership numbered over 500,000.  The only problem with that is that at any given time, 250,000 of those members were in fact, JAKES members, meaning they were 17 years of age and under.  In order to fact check, simply go back to any of your old Turkey Call Magazines and look for the number of magazines that were being printed at the time.  Periodicals are made to report these numbers from time to time in an effort to keep everyone honest.  If you are able to locate these figures, you'll see that no more than 250,000 copies of Turkey Call Magazine were ever printed at one time.  So, with that information in hand, we can only assume that the NWTF has never had more than 250,000 adult members, less Women in the Outdoors and Wheelin Sportsmen.  To the best of my knowledge both of these splinter organizations have no more than 20,000 members combined.

The numbers were inflated by the NWTF's, JAKES memberships.  As mentioned earlier, this group was formed for young people 17 years of age and under.  Again, JAKES boasted membership numbers of 250,000 or more at one time or another.  However, once again, the old management was pulling the wool over your eyes.  Eventually, it became clear that the NWTF was in fact forcing its local chapters to purchase JAKES memberships out of the money raised through the banquet system.  This was all done in an effort to boost the membership numbers so advertisers could be charged more and certain management members could build a brand new building.

In closing, I would say that the new management team has a full understanding of the fact that they must be more honest than the past administration.  If you have any additional questions or comments about the NWTF please feel free to post them here on Wandering Minds.  I'll be more than happy to assist in setting the facts straight.

This is in response to the person saying no churches should be built around Ground Zero of 9/11 if we don’t want a muslim mosque built there. Sir or Mam, you are an idiot. Obviously you are unaware that muslims always want to build a mosque where they feel they won a victory. Who brought down the twin towers? Muslims. Who is wanting to build a mosque to celebrate their victory? Muslims. Their leader claims that a few muslims were killed in the attacks and that makes them a part of the “9/11 families”!!! Yeah a few muslims died, the ones KILLING THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS!!!!!!! I can’t believe this is even happening in America. A mosque is not a “church” it is a terrorist training facility and should be outlawed in the US!!! POINT BLANK PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!

And why isn't anyone discussing the salaries of the rest of the upper management.  I am sure those haven't changed.  And the membership #'s....the paper reports only 230,000 but the NWTF's website says a much higher # ...what are they telling their advertisers???? Now that the oil leak is capped the oil is disappearing. ABC reports that they can't find oil to clean up.
"[It's] mother nature doing her job," said Ed Overton, a professor of environmental studies at Louisiana State University. So the oil that was going to devestate the entire eastern seaboard is now being taken care of by "mother nature"? It just all vanished? What's up with that? Today's news said BP was going to kill the well so no oil could get out. WHAT!!!!!!!!!???????????

There is a US oil well that obviously produces tons of oil and Obama wants to kill it and all offshore drilling? If we can cap the well we can pump the oil but he wants to cut it off so the US can spend more of our money with Arabs who want to kill us?

How (removed) stupid is that?

Undeniable documents have been discovered from a high-level leak that show the Obama administration worked with the UK to release the Lockerbie Bomber, Mohammed al Megrahi.

Obama personally stated last week that he was shocked at this release.  Facts now show the Muslim president conspired with pro-jihadi forces to obtain the release of the terrorist.

The complete details of Obama's treachery, lies and deceit can be read on the Republican Majority Campaign's new site at http://rmcpac.com/news/flash-flash-obama-bailed-out-lockerbie-bomber

Making matters even worse, BP Petroleum, a company that directly profited from the release of the Lockerbie Bomber, was also one of Obama's largest contributors.

I don't know about you, but my head's spinning just trying to keep up with all the tax proposals coming out of Washington, like...
     Imposing a value-added tax (VAT)
Reinstating a "death" tax when you die
     Raising the capital gains tax
     Raising the Medicare tax rate
Raising the top income tax rates
Letting the Bush tax cuts expire
     Taxing drivers on their mileage
Raising taxes on beer, wine, liquor and soda
     Raising the social security tax

... and now, the newest tax -- and possibly the most devastating of them all -- the "Hi Tax."

Unlike some of the taxes I mentioned above, everyone will pay the "Hi Tax." There's no getting around it.  And unlike most other taxes you've ever heard of, there's no fixed ceiling on the rate you'll pay.

It also doesn't matter what your level of income, age, education or health looks like -- everyone will pay the same rate.

The "Hi Tax" could tack on as little as 5% to the cost of goods and services if we're lucky, but when you take into account the latest government report, I wouldn't be surprised if it'll tack on more like 25%... 50%... even 200% or higher.

That's why the new "Hi Tax" could be the most devastating form of taxation we've ever seen.

It will reach into everyone's nest egg and take whatever it wants.

CAREFUL HOW YOU VOTE IN NOVEMBER.

Editor's note: Letting the Bush tax cuts expire is not a tax increase on "the rich". The tax cuts were across the board to all income levels, which means the tax increase will be to all income levels. Another lie Obama and the Democrats are stuck with.

Why I am Depressed
Over two thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land."

Nearly 75 years ago when Welfare was introduced Roosevelt said, "Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a Camel, this is the Promised Land."

Now Obama has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of Camels, and mortgaged the Promised Land! I was so depressed last night thinking about (ObamaCare), the economy, the wars, lost jobs, savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc. . . I called the suicide hotline. Got a freakin' call center in Pakistan. I told them I was suicidal.

They got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck.

Editor's note: And they are all amazed that they have the lowest approval rating in history while claiming "America" supports their radical leftist agenda when in reality 89% disagree? It is not just in Washington D.C., it is right here in Edgefield County. Kneece, Bright, Dorn (all Democrats), and I guess you can include County Administrator Brown in the mix since he is proposing tax increases on citizens in the county who own small businesses when they have the least money to pay additional taxes, in addition to the other tax increases Obama and the Democrats have imposed in the last 18 months at the Federal level.

It seems Brown has feathered his nest where he feels most comfortable, on the left side of the tree.

Don't forget, reassessments are coming up, and you can bet property and home values in Edgefield County will not be going down, they will be going up. Home starts are down, property sales are down or near flat, revenues from deed stamps are down, but your property will miraculously increase in value.

I read Wondering Minds and I see so many comments about Obama, or people suggesting web sites to go to.

The truth is he is not a black president. He is mixed half white and half black. So that makes him white nor black just mixed. Yes his skin is dark but so are American Indians and they are not considered black. Mexicans are dark skinned but they are not considered to be black. What makes him different is he prefers for people to consider him to be black. The first"Black President of the United States" is an untrue statement. He is the first dark skinned president of the United States but that is all he is. He is nothing special there a lot of people that are half white and half black so what. We can not even classify him as an African American because he is not. To be an African American you have to be black. Well again he is half white. So what is he a Half Breed, thats what they called the children of a white person that had a child with an American Indian.

He isn't even an Amercian. He is so affraid that we will find out what we already know that he has had all his records sealed so we as American Citizens won't find out the truth. Well first of all I don't know about you but I'm not so stupid to figure out if someone goes to all the trouble and has spent so much of our tax dollars to have all their paperwork on whom they really are sealed that's pretty much a no brainer. Because if we saw the papers he would be impeached and possibly go to prison. Well what about the people that sealed them for him shouldn't they be pinished as well, you and I know they had to see them. Also you cannot tell me that someone in Washington, DC doesn't have the power to unseal them.

We all know that if we keep doing nothing he will keep doing what ever he wants to. He is paying off who ever he has to, how else is he doing all the things he has done and getting away with it. You pay someone enough money and you can get anything you want.

He is a Muslim, he has admitted to that. He was not born in Hawaii he was born in Kenya. He has lied to us about being an American Citizen. He wants to change the Constitution of the United States of America to change America into the Communist States of Obama. I think we should let him and congress know we have had enough. I know I have had enough and it's time we take back what is owers. We need to start writing, emailing, texting and calling everyone we know to have them contact everyone that represents their state and say WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH. I will be the first, who out there will be the second, third and so on.

This whole business license crap is a stupid idea. We keep hearing the same old pledges of no tax increases but every year there is another tax. $1 here $20 there but taxes don’t go up. If the cost to live in the county goes up every time I turn around.... Taxes are going up! So now they want to tax me on my side job I had to take on to pay all the (removed) taxes they don’t pile on year after year? Enough is enough!

"I don't want a Mosque at Ground Zero, as long as no churches are allowed near the sites of Eric Rudolph's bombings.

Or near the sites of abortion clinic bombings.

Or near where fundie Christians murdered gay men and women because "the Bible says being gay is wrong."

Building churches near those sites is just too painful to those who lost loved ones at the hands of Christian terrorists murdered in the name of their god. How do we know what kinds of people these churches attract? How many more will be killed?"

Isn't this pretty much the same thing?

I mean the Olympic Bomber and the abortion clinic bombers were religious terrorists just as Atta was.

Editor's note: Is it the same thing? In the other instances you talk about individuals that acted as individuals on an individual. The attacks on 9/11were political and a direct attack on our nation and our Republic. That is like saying you want to ban churches because a member of a church was convicted of robbing your home.

Of course, that is the same reaction from Obama when he banned all off shore drilling because one oil well failed. That is akin to grounding all airline flights if one plane crashes.

It is absurd.

Using the Democratic mind set: "Never let a crisis go to waste" (BP Gulf oil spill), the Obama Administration and his leadership lackeys of both houses of Congress are AGAIN aiming to impose massive new punitive tax increases on U.S. oil and natural gas companies. This time, the proposals discriminate against the industry by singling out the oil and gas companies for targeted tax increases that other domestic producers and manufacturers would not have to bear.

Many in Washington are speculating that the Congressional leadership will force votes on one or more of these discriminatory proposals before the upcoming August recess.  As early as next week. The Administration's plan alone is to raise the industry's taxes by approximately $80 billion, including "double taxation" on overseas earnings.

If those proposals are enacted into law, what do you think will happen to the price of gas at the pump?  Can you imagine 5 or even 6  dollars a gallon?  If so, then who will really pay those taxes.  That would be you and I folks.

Wake up people and write to your congressmen and tell them to vote against the proposal, that it will significantly weaken the U.S. oil and gas industry's global competitiveness, that it represents a serious threat to American energy security and that it will ultimately hurt the American consumer. Not to mention continuing to stall the overall economic recovery and eventual loss of even more jobs.

Careful how you vote in November.

I have to congratulate Bill O'Reilly on FOX news. He admitted that he jumped ahead with the Shirley Sherrod video. He is being honest about it. I did hear some criticism of him and even an accussation by Rachel Maddow stating FOX also reported the false Accorn story. Sorry Rachel, you got your facts wrong. I am sure your small audience believes you, but the Accorn story was not false. Is there an apology coming tonight from Rachel? Don't hold your breath!

The whole Sherrod thing is comical. The point of all this is that it makes Obama look more incapable and flip flopping than before. If you watch the whole video, there were some very racist insinuations through her comments. If a white person had said them in relation to black people there would be all kinds of screaming and yelling. O'Reilly was just showing the tip of the iceberg. It will be interesting to see what happens now because after flopping all around with this woman's job, Obama is stuck with her. I wonder what else she has said or will say.

I would hope the county council is not just a small version of the national leadership. I would hope they would not just make their agenda get through no matter how they have to do it. I am sure they will cancel the Thurs evening one in order to enable Mrs. Blackwell and Mr. Ashcraft to attend the meeting just like they did for the other two. They are so fair and transparent in how they do things-just like our national leadership. I do hope you know that I am totally sarcastic in these comments. I would guess it will be on Thurs and they will control what happens.

What is the deal with people who have to be in control of others? Are they that insecure in themselves that they want to be in charge of everything? I just don't get it and I feel sorry for them in the long run. They end up alone and wouldn't know if someone was really a friend or just wanted something from them. How sad.

The trouble with the idea of voting the bum out, that is Lindsey Graham, is that he has four more years in his term. He thinks he is in a safe place. Is a recall a possibility? People might check that out. He thinks the Tea Party will not last. I say, call him, email him, write personal letters to all of his offices and let him know there is great concern about his votes. Remember when the Tea Party idea first was out there and people sent Washington tea bags? Maybe we need to send him tea bags. He needs a reminder of the feelings in SC. He is in denial if he thinks the Tea Party will not last. True Americans have awakened, are involved and want their country back. He is not voting the way the people that elected him want him to vote. Kagan is a disaster and he is the only one on the Senate committee that broke rank and voted for her. He is a RINO and we need to let him know that we see that.   He could vote for Cap and Trade etc. He is a mess.

As far as continuing to go back to the past administration, come on. Just look at the disaster that is going on now. Quoting Judge Napolitano is a waste of time. People can look at the actual discussion if they want to. Who cares? We need to be worried about all the broken promises, broken laws,  the broken following of the Constitution we are seeing now. In my opinion, her claim of "out of context" doesn't carry much weight. She admitted that she did not give the full effort she could have to the white farmer because he was white. Regardless of later saying it was not the right thing to do, she did it, admitted to it, and the NAACP members (while she was saying what she did) were applauding her racism long before she denounced it. I have been intrigued by the way the national media is covering the state of our union. President Obama continues to say that the Republicans are obstructing and standing in the way of his agenda. The national media carries that theme and discusses it in opinion cycles as if the premise is correct.
I would like to remind everyone of a simple truth and proclaim the premise used as false. President Obama controls the White House and the Democrats control Congress. They do not need Republicans to force his agenda upon us all as the Healthcare debate showed. The election of Scott Brown [R-Mass] to the seat held by Ted Kennedy is not much use to the Republicans as he voted to the Financial Reform bill just signed into law.
Include liberal Republicans Olympia Snow and Lindsey Graham and the Democrats control the Senate in spite of a 59-41 split on party lines.
I believe the Obama agenda will be pushed through like a runaway freight train in the coming months. Knowing they are about to be kicked out of control, the Democrats are going to pass as many laws and taxes as they can before being sent home because they know that once a law in on the books, it never comes off.
If history is any indication of the future the Republicans will not be any different. Even if the wrest control of the House of the Senate or both, they will not have the power to repeal anything and the damage is done.
That is not to say that I do not support Republicans taking over control of one or both houses of Congress, because I do. It is important that we need to have Tea Party candidates in those positions and build on this movement to take back our county, states, and local governments and return them to the people in 2010 and 2012.

Many citizens had no idea that members of Congress could retire with the same pay after only one term, that they didn't pay into Social Security, that they specifically exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for  sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live under those laws. The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform that is being considered...in all of its forms. Somehow, that doesn't seem logical. We do  not have an elite that is above the law. I truly don't care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever. The self-serving must stop.  This is a good way to do that. It is an idea whose time has come.

Have each person contact a minimum of twenty people on their Address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one proposal that  really should be passed around.

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution
"Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States ."

I have recently become engaged to marry a former prostitute who lives in Longview.  She is a part time "working girl".

All things considered, my problem is this. I love my fiancé and look forward to bringing her into the family.  I certainly want to be totally open and honest with her.

with Fox News' Judge Andrew Napolitano and discussed his book, Lies the Government Told You. I'm surprised the judge is going to be allowed on Fox after making the statements he did about Bush and Cheney during the interview.
Nader: What about the more serious violations of habeas corpus. You know after 9-11 Bush rounded up thousands of them, Americans, many of them Muslim Americans or Arabic Americans and they were thrown in jail without charges, they didn't have lawyers, some of them were pretty mistreated in New York City. You know they were all released eventually.

Napolitano: Correct.

Nader: Is that what you mean also about throwing people in jail without charges violating habeas corpus?

Napolitano: Well that is so obviously a violation of the natural law, the natural right to be brought before a neutral arbiter within moments of the government taking your freedom away from you. And the Constitution itself, as the Supreme Court in the Boumediene case pretty much said, wherever the government goes, the Constitution goes with it and wherever the Constitution goes are the rights of the Constitution as a guarantee and habeas corpus cannot be suspended by the president ever. It can only be suspended by the Congress in times of rebellion which in read Milligan says meaning rebellion of such magnitude that judges can't get into their court houses. That has not happened in American history.

So what President Bush did with the suspension of habeas corpus, with the whole concept of Guantanamo Bay, with the whole idea that he could avoid and evade federal laws, treaties, federal judges and the Constitution was blatantly unconstitutional and is some cases criminal.

Nader: What's the sanction for President Bush and Vice President Cheney?

Napolitano: There's been no sanction except what history will say about them.

Nader: What should be the sanctions?

Napolitano: They should have been indicted. They absolutely should have been indicted for torturing, for spying, for arresting without warrants. I'd like to say they should be indicted for lying but believe it or not, unless you're under oath, lying is not a crime. At least not an indictable crime. It's a moral crime.

Nader: So you think George W. Bush and Dick Cheney should even though they've left office, they haven't escaped the criminal laws, they should be indicted and prosecuted?

Napolitano: The evidence in this book and in others, our colleague the great Vincent Bugliosi has amassed an incredible amount of evidence. The purpose of this book was not to amass that evidence but I do discuss it, is overwhelming when you compare it to the level of evidence required for a normal indictment that George W. Bush as President and Dick Cheney as Vice President participated in criminal conspiracies to violate the federal law and the guaranteed civil liberties of hundreds, maybe thousands of human beings.

They go on to discuss how these crimes have gone on unpunished and how the practices have continued under Obama and that as long as our citizens are willing to accept government deception and as long as the Justice Department and the lawyers in this country are not going to pursue these cases in court it's never going to stop. It's a topic that our media is happy to help brush under the rug as well.

Edot'rs note:" Wow, someone trying to sell a book makes wild claims about terrorists and the lame stream-media is all over it with the left-wing host. Go figure.

Nidiffer [Edgefield Advertiser Columnist] you are firing on all cylinders!  5 more council meetings (plus called meetings) for Kneece and his handlers to pass anything and everything.  Sheriff has been wanting Railroad St. closed for some time hadn't heard that before. Don't wait to discuss the issue with all council members,  just approve asking the state to close the road.  Plans are to add parking.

Ken  was that figured in the cost estimate for purchase and renovations to the Calliham building that you said was not going to cost the taxpayers any additional money?  Closing the road and putting in more parking means county taxpayers are again helping the town.Kneece stated there were those who wanted to kill buying the Calliham building from the beginning.  Hint, that would be the citizens.  He stated those who opposed it should just get out of the way and let "us" get on with it, it has taken too long already.  I bet Mr. Editor can find the recording of the meeting where Kneece said the issue was dead - never to rise again. Then the issue came up for 3rd reading and pushed through.

Brown's great plan to get more tax revenue(fees), he couldn't provide the number of counties in SC who have this tax (fee)  but he wants to be on the cutting edge.  Common sense says the best way to raise revenue is to increase your tax base (residents and businesses).   SC is working to provide incentives to attract business and look at what Edgefield County is doing, adding more costs.  As for economic development  look who heads that up.

Thank you Brown your public display showed the whole county whose kool aid you drank.  Citizens - more of the same, different player, stay tuned to see what gets "pushed through" before Kneece is gone.  Keep the heat on!

Editor's note: (Off subject but related) I have confirmed that Sheriff Adell Dobey has never requested that Railroad Ave be closed. This is not the first time Kneece and Administrator Brown have made claims that have been proven to be less than honest such as claiming that Sheriff Dobey said he did not need replacement patrol vehicles. It seems that Administrator Brown and Chairman Kneece has a propensity to pit elected officials against each other in my opinion.

As far as the Calliham deal, there has been nothing above board since it began. No votes, no directives, and no confirmations to anything that has taken place that I can find. County Administrator Brown, Chairman Kneece, nor anyone else can support the claims made by minutes or votes of the county council.

It seems there is a dictatorship has run a muck. One run, administered, and implemented by Democrats in the county government. Maybe I am wrong, but I sure can't find anyone to refute the belief I hold. I welcome comments to the contrary.

Wonder why this is not headline throughout every single major media outlet in the United States?

Editor's note: It does not fit the Obama Administration directive as what is "news" by the national media water bearers. You see this in local politics as Chairman Kneece allows County Administrator Alton Brown to make similar claims against sitting Republican County Council members and a Republican candidate for office. Makes you wonder, why is he allowed to get involved in local elections? Of course, we don't know where County Administrator Brown stands politically because he has not changed his permanent address to Edgefield County, registered his cars, drivers license, or anything else to permanently link him to our county. In other words, he's an outsider trying to, according to his attack on Republican candidate for County Council Dean Campbell and sitting Republicans on the County Council, seeking to keep the control of our county in the hands of the most inept people that have kept us in the dark ages as surrounding counties thrive.

Who's side is he on? A political party or the people of Edgefield County?

Which side of the fence?
If you ever wondered which side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!

If a Republican doesn't like guns, he doesn’t buy one.
If a Democrat doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a Republican is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat.
If a Democrat is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a Republican is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a Republican is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A Democrat wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a Republican doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
A Democrat demands that those they don't like be shut down.

If a Republican is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A Democrat non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.

If a Republican decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A Democrat demands that the rest of us pay for his.

The President admitted that he was puzzled by the magnitude of the opposition to his proposal.

"Look, it's an all volunteer force," Obama complained. "Nobody made these guys go to war.
They had to have known and accepted the risks.

Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice? It doesn't compute.." "I thought these were people who were proud to sacrifice for their country, "Obama continued "I wasn't asking for blood, just money. I am so sorry I missed Judge Napolitano's show. I find it a little hard to believe he came out so strongly against the Bush administration. It may have been more of someone's interpretation of his comments. I have watched the Judge for years and would be surprised at those comments. I will have to look for the actual conversation because I am having a hard time believing some of this.

The key to these comments about the Judge, the past administration etc. is just a distraction from what is going on in the current administration. If you want to discuss not following the Constitution, there is too much to even know where to begin in connection with our current leadership.

The disregard for the rule of law with this administration is unbelievable. It does remind me a tad of what is happening in our own county. Distraction seems to be the tool against honest questions. Could there have been some some defensiveness in the personal attacks made during the last county council meeting? It makes one have a wandering mind....

The facts about job creation (like millions of dollars to create a few jobs???) seem to be lacking in the comments from the White House. The health care bill is going to kill us financially-it may literally kill some of us off.   Did anyone else see that a lot of doctors in TX are going to quit taking Medicaid because of this. The same is going to happen with Medicare. It already is happening. Good luck finding a decent doctor that will take you as a patient.

So many real problems , locally and nationally, and way too many distractions.

To the Editor. I have been taking special notice of reports from Edgefield Daily, The Citizen News, and the Edgefield Advertiser for a few months and have come to the conclusion that Edgefield Daily is by far the most informative news and without question the most current. I have counted the stories I have read from all three and Edgefield Daily tops the list. I did not include stories that appeared in all three publications that seemed to be cookie cutter prepared stories. The Edgefield Advertiser was my least read with the Citizen News coming in second. Although they often carry stories of their own of events long reported by Edgefield Daily, I found very little of the crime being reported and very little or nothing in the way of investigative reporting on county matters.

If I relied on the (local papers) I would not have found out about the murder in Merriwether until 5 days later. I would not read about the arrest of the so-called billion dollar man until 6 days later if at all. And I would not know anything about the many burglaries that have taken place in the general vicinity of our neighborhood.

I say these things to let you know that you are appreciated, your continued efforts are applauded, and the service you provide to this county is invaluable. Most of all I want to say thank you.

Editor’s note: Thank you for your kind words and for reading Edgefield Daily. It is the hard work of many that make Edgefield Daily possible.

It seems that calling the Tea Party racist seems to be the only ploy the liberals have to try to attack this group of Americans that are representing the majority of the core of this country. There is no evidence that the Tea Party is racist. Chris Matthews is calling the group a bunch of "yahoos" and is trying to make this accusation stick. He shows signs at rallies etc. but they are not racist signs, they are just not pro Obama. I guess it is the old song that if you are not happy with Obama's policies, you are a racist. Isn't it interesting to see more and more people of all skin color turning against his policies?   I guess they are racist ,even if some of them are the same race he is. These folks are just smart and see that Obama's agenda is bad for this country.

It is also to see the timing of these accusations. When the Justice Dept. will not prosecute folks with the Black Panther Group for voter intimidation, other distractions seem to be popping up.  Distract and lie seems to be the mantra of this administration.

The progressives are so afraid of the grassroots movement that  loves this country and knows that the progressive agenda is not and will not work. They go after people and groups that are just regular Americans who know their history, support and love this country and take a stand. It is going to be one personal attack after another. Obama won because of race and false promises. They are hoping that will happen again. Too bad their policies speak louder than race. The progressives have nothing else to stand on so they are just stirring the pot and continuing to lie.

Editor's note: The left is always resorting to lies rather than confronting facts. Seems eerily similar to the three Democrats controlling out county, doesn't it?

$50 on the first $2000 in sales.

There is 2,998,000 in sales remaining to be taxed.  The tax is $1.30 per $1000 in sales.

   That is 2,998 * $1.30 = $3897.40.

   The total tax is $50 + $3897.40 = $3947.40.

Editor's post: I have tried to review the details of a comment posted by a local business owner and the cost of a county business license (if passed). According to the business owner, the business does $3 million a year. I do not know if that is gross income, net, or combined (in and out of county), so it is difficult to determine how much of it would be used to base the cost of the license on.

It was stated by he or she that the cost of the license would be $40,000 a year. I have not read deeply enough into the ordinance to confirm or refute that amount. I do not know if there is a ceiling on the cost of a license or not. However, County Administrator Alton Brown said the new “fee” (not a “tax”) would bring in an additional $100,000 each year.

Just for the record, any money taken from you by government is a tax regardless of what it is called to take it by force. If you are required to pay it, the government is forcing you to surrender the gains of your labors to comply with their orders.

The simple fact of the matter is the county is facing near record high unemployment numbers, we are starved of new industry and jobs and facing the worst economic times in 80 years. Creating another obstacle to overcome in attracting new business and industry to locate here is just plain stupid.

Since I have an office in McCormick County and this is on the table I am already making the move. I don’t know who brought this up but I have been around here long enough to know once they set their eyes on your wallet they don’t back down. Our schools are in shambles, our school board is run by Obamabots, and good people are running for the woods. Hello! Is anybody paying attention? Our state and county votes Republican every year but we have Democrats holding majorities in the county and on the school board. How is that piossible?

Editor's note:  In the past the Legislative Delegation was made up of two Democrats: Sen. Tommy Moore and Bill Clyburn. As such, districts were drawn to favor democrats (even in non-partisan races, ie: School Board) and we are feeling the effects of that "leadership". That is why we have lagged behind other counties. Currently we have two Republicans one Democrat giving the nod to the district lines.

Look for big changes at the end of this year after the census. Clyburn will put up a big fight as a ranking member, but I am not sure he will prevail. That is just an educated opinion on the matter, the real test will be the plans laid out when the discussion is completed.

One thing is for certain, Edgefield County has been ruled by Democrats for decades and they have driven us down and forced us to be a minor player in the state.

According to County Administrator Alton Brown's recent "fee" for all county businesses to acquire a license (fee = tax) it seems he has cast his lot with the likes of Kneece, Dorn, Bright, and Obama contributor Bettis Rainsford.

The disrespect shown at (Tuesday night's) county council meeting by administrator Brown was more than deplorable.    Mr. Brown does not seem to understand that he works at the pleasure of the council not the other way around.  The distain he exhibited towards councilman Ashcraft and the manner in which he handled the questions and answers showed a total lack of professionalism.  The arrogance he along with other council members showed to Mr. Biggs because of  his questioning the use and accountability of the recreational funds and facilities was unnecessary.  Mr. Brown and council members who seem to have difficulty in understanding that citizens have the right to question where taxpayer dollars are going need to understand we elected the council members because we expect our representatives to get the answers to those questions for us.  Mr. Brown you stated there was no way you could get the questions and answers to the council prior to the meeting and chose instead to bring the issues out in public in the manner with which you did shows a lack of judgement.  Brown you have a beef with the editor of Edgefield daily that is one thing.  For you to drag council members Ashcraft, Blackwell and candidate Dean Campbell into your scrap is uncalled for.  To suggest that you are in a hostile work environment because of these people was a gross error in judgement.  You unjustly accused these persons and I believe you owe them an appology.  Perhaps you are correct in reviewing your future plans.  If this is the relationship you wish to pursue with the council members perhaps you should consider moving on.  Pushing through a request to close a road and maybe discussing the issue later is a clear example of how the council has worked in the past.  Same old system just a new player.  Bang bang that is the nail in the coffin of economic development in the county.  A new business license fee for the unincorporated areas of the county sure tells everyone come on in to our county, the land of opportunity and confusion.  To Mr. Ashcraft and Mrs. Blackwell keep asking the  questions no one else on this council nor the administrator nor the attorney care enough to stand up for the citizens.  We citizens appreciate you and your efforts.  Note to Dean Campbell, if you are chosen to represent your district, follow the example set before you.  New direction, new leadership.

We need to keep the healthcare issue in the forefront for this next election. There are a lot of distractions right now, but the healthcare issue is the biggest threat to our way of life in this country. Just look at the man that Obama has appointed, without an approval of Congress, to run this gigantic mess. Check out this man's views. He wants to ration healthcare among other things.

Thank goodness for Glenn Beck. He is actually teaching people the history of this country. The reason we are in the mess we are is because people have allowed too many things to happen that go directly against what the founders of this country laid out. Read the Bill of Rights, the Constitution etc. See what the founders of this great country intended. Obama and crew are so blatant in their lies and deceptions. They have no regard for the rule of law.

Funny that anyone thinks Glenn Beck is losing popularity. I wonder where they get their facts. Maybe they didn't know that there is an attack campaign out there against him because he is pointing out the truths of what is going on. This administration is afraid of him because he shows people what is really going on.  The last thing this administration wants is an informed public. Part of the reason we are in the mess we are in is because people have not been informed or involved in what is going on.  This administration wants us to believe all the rhetoric they spew out and they do not want it weighed by the truth.  The left would love you to think Beck is losing popularity but that is just one more leftist lie.   Don't believe it.  The American people are smarter than that.

According to a news report, a certain private school in Washington was recently faced with a unique problem.  A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lip stick, they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints.

Every night the maintenance man would remove them, and the next day the girls would put them back.

Finally the principal decided that something had to be done.  She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man.  She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night (you can just imagine the yawns from the little princesses).

To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required.

He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it.  Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror!

There are teachers ... and then there are educators.

I'm sure the County Council has contingency plans, and is ready to step in at a moment's notice to insure the taxpayers of the county are protected from unscruptulous contractors that could be hired to finish the job....(yeah, right)

Maybe that's why it's always better to hire a business to do construction, instead of an employee.

Can't wait to see the "spin" when Durham steps up to the plate to "save us all from the horrible mess that Mr Reed created" (if Reed left prematurely), even though he (Durham)stated publicly that "he would never try to secure the bid for the construction on the rehab of the building". I don’t mind a little fun, but I really don’t get it. Carolina wins their first national championship (in any sport I believe), and some are still talking about Clemson. I think that says something about all the ‘butt wuppins” Clemson has given Carolina over the years. It also reveals a little about Carolina’s inability up to this point to win the big one – the big picture for them seems to be clouded by an orange fog among other things. Carolina needs to look beyond Georgia, Clemson, etc… It seems they have always suffered from a lack of ambition and vision.

Although I have been a Clemson fan most of my life I have always supported Carolina unless they were head to head with Clemson. I am a big fan of Steve Spurrier. I want to see both teams succeed against all others and I am very happy that a team from our state has won the title. Carolina and their fans have a reason to be proud. They also have to return next year and show their programs are deserving of the respect that goes with being a national champion.

And Carolina fans  - celebrate and enjoy, but let’s save the arrogance and gloating until it can be backed up with quality programs year after year after year.

RE: Post commenting on parent issues from the MVRA poster and All Star player

It is obvious that you do not know the facts behind the complaint that was filed with the Recreation Director of Edgefield County, the President of the Dixie Youth League in Edgefield, or the District, State, and National Directors.

To clarify things:

There is no problem with the child himself. He is a good ball player and I know that travel ball gives instruction that you don't get in rec league sports. The problem was and is this:

1. The Recreation Director sent an e-mail to the District Director asking if the child could play All Stars eventhough he had only 8 games in. (The State Director was not involved in this decision). The e-mail stated that the child came into the season late due to the other Edgefield team not having enough players and that the reason he did not start the season like everyone else was due to playing travel ball and having an arm issue (injury).  The answer that was received : Make sure you have a doctor's note for this and he should be OK.

2. The e-mail also asked if the boy's father could coach the All Star Team as he had in the past because it appeared that none of the other coaches wanted to. The answer from the District Director: The boy's dad can't coach because he had not coached this season. Duh!!!!

Now the problem with all of this:

The Recreation Director's job is not to handle Dixie Youth concerns, but he is the one that contacted the District Director. That is the President of the League's job as well as the Board. He did not start the season due to playing travel ball. He was not injured. And to ask if this player's Dad could coach is just rediculous.

If the coaches that were already coaching did not want to coach all stars, why were they even coaching for the regular season? They knew that if their team won the league that they would be the Coach for the All Star Team.

To address the "fairness" issue: The team that had only 8 players started the season with at least 10. It doesn't make sense to form 2 teams for the league with only 20 players total. Each team should have at least 12 players in order to avoid these situations and if you can't, then you form 1 team with back up players. No it wasn't fair to the kids on this team to play with only 8 kids. But the "fairness" issue here is that the kids that had dedicated their afternoons and nights to practices and games deserved to be the ones on the All Star Team not the kid who came in to "help out".

We as parents must do what is right for our children when they can't stand up for themselves and for this player to be treated "special" was an injustice to the kids that had been working from day one with the league. They are the ones that deserve to be on an All Star Team, not someone who comes in late and does not meet the number of required games to qualify for All Stars without legitimate reason and takes a spot that was not deserved. The statement that most of us probably don't know what the back yard looks like is an insult to all of us who spend time with our children not only in the back yard working on the fundamentals, but also at the ball fields on the weekends and any other time that we have.

And there are many parents and families that are dedicated not only to their kids, but to this league. They put in their time just like this family has and many have been in this league longer and worked harder than this family.  Everybody has choices and this family chose to have their child play travel ball. And the parents that filed their complaint made a choice to stand up for their kids as well as those others that were deserving of this honor. And that is more than any of the "powers that be" did.

Now the final issue: Was this the "Christian" way? Was it the "Christian" way to deny a deserving child a spot on the team? Was it the "Christian" way to try and manipulate the rules? The "Christian" way would have been to allow this child to play to "help out" and to follow the rules, to teach him that it's what you give not what you receive in the end that matters.

I urge both counties to inquire into Mr. Reed's actions while employed at Aiken County.  Something is just not right with Mr. Reed.  And I, like others, are curious to know his problem.  Edgefield County cannot afford to be in litigation in these economic times.  I have no doubt, that should Reed not be successful in his suit with Aiken, he will be looking for a reason elsewhere.

I am confused on this whole Calliham thing. I’ve read all the reports so far and it seems the more (Edgefield Daily) reports on it the more shady it appears. The report today (Wednesday) was the most disturbing saying that the estimates say we the taxpayer are going to go in the hole on this thing. My question is what offices are going in the building and what say does the taxpayer have in this decision? They are spending our money aren’t they? Shouldn’t we have a say on where we want county offices located?

Editor’s note: As it stands right now, citizens do not have a voice in the decisions being made. According to some county council members, they are not even being included in the process.

In my opinion, “someone” is pushing their agenda through before a certain county politician leaves in December. If the votes were left to take place later, a more fiscally responsible and better educated council may overturn the deeds done.

That would not suit those pulling the strings.

Do not forget, by pruchasing the building the county has assumed a debt to the remodeling of the whole building estimated at a total of roughly $1.6 million.

Funny how you never hear them talk about that little fact.

The Supreme Court ruled on the right to bear arms this week.  They ruled in favor of the long standing 2nd. amendment to the constitution, but the vote was 5 to 4.  A basic freedom of the American people was in the hands of one person. That scares me.

How can half of them interpret the constitution one way and half another way.  That scares me. Are laws so vague that half of the judges cannot agree on those laws?  That scares me. Do the Judges rule on the constitution or do they rule on their "feelings"?  That question scares me. .

Now Obama has appointed another radical left winger to a lifetime seat on a court that has so much power over the lives of all of us.  That scares me.    Has the Supreme Court become another Congress that is split along party lines?   That scares me.   Will the Supreme Court eventually be filled with more czars that rule for a political party rather than for all the people??  That scares me.

Have the confirmation hearings become simply a "dog and pony" show to trick the American people into thinking there is an honest process in place for selecting a person to serve in a position of such awesome power over the lives of all of us?  That scares me.

Does anyone watching the confirmation hearing for the latest czar appointment have a doubt about the outcome of the process?   That scares me.

You would think the answers to those questions would be obvious to even the most brain dead among us. However, I probably give the brain dead among us too much credit.

Well, our Gamecocks did it! It's strange that I haven't seen a Tiger fan in the past few days or get a phone call, to remind me of score; like they use to do in past...but they'll have to come of hiding sooner or later!
Now, if Spurrier could do the same...

I’m glad to know that other organizations have parent issues. My kids are 14 and 12 years old and I’ve coached them  at MVRA since they were 4. There isn’t much I haven’t seen. We have a good size program with 550 kids every season. We have to beg parents to coach, Team Mom, Concession, raise money, maintenance or even to help pick up trash. Our Board members deserve a lot of respect for the work they do. There are some who donate time but nowhere near what is needed.

I would first like to say that if Edgefield would release this kid (and his father) I would personally deliver the signup sheet. There is also a rule on that. I feel the player is getting the shaft simply because he was asked to play.  Was he informed he wasn’t going to be eligible for All-stars? He “spilled blood in the same mud” as the other players. Are we supposed get a Childs hopes up for the big event and break his heart.

I would like to address a few comments;
“did not start the season or put in the time at practices that all the other kids did that started with the league from day 1.”

“teaching his child that you don’t have to work for your achievements, but that you can do whatever you deem necessary to get what you want.”

My kids also play Travel Ball as this player was accused of. I guarantee you he was coached better and longer than any Rec. practice can give you. You fine tune a little at Rec. practice because there isn’t enough time to do much else. The majority of work is done AT HOME. A lot is also done from August back to February, I’ll let you do the math on that. I wonder if the ones who started all of this has even seen their back yard. And again, they were asked to play. He is teaching his kid to work harder than the rest and earn what you want. I’m guessing he practiced with his travel team as well as at home while he helped out the Rec. League.

“there are rules in place to teach these kids not only how to play the game of baseball, but also fairness.”

Fairness is watching a team get their butts whipped because they only have 8 players. What does this do to their ego?

“This complaint was filed to make those aware that tried to bend, break and even do away with the rules that they are accountable for their actions and it doesn't matter who you are, you still have to play by the rules. Just like those kids and their parents did by registering before the deadline to play baseball.”

It was clear he wasn’t playing Rec. at the start of the season. Signing up before the season shouldn’t have even been brought up. Again, he was asked.

“Those who tried to manipulate around the rules were the problem here.”

I can agree it might not have been handled properly. I’m sure it was done to be fair to the one who got stabbed in the back for helping out. The league could have added a game to the schedule when finding out the player didn’t have enough games. The “Christian way” is to help others and “PAY IT FOREWARD”. Legally helping others who help you.

There are exceptions to every rule. Ultimately, the State Director should have ruled in the boys favor. I hope the Local President and Directors went to bat for the kid when it got presented at the higher level.

I wish there were more like this family who are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to improve their child, organizations, and their community.

I've never been one to believe in hope.  To me, it's an illogical pastime, an emotional opiate.  Someone has referred to hope as "when desire meets expectations."

But, last night, I subscribed to hope.  As my beloved Gamecocks slugged and slogged their way through Game 2 of the College World Series Championship against UCLA, my desires went looking for my expectations.
