Regarding the post:
Is Edgefield County pursuing stimulus funds for broadband access?  Other counties are
web posted August 25, 2009

I would like to add my concern that Edgefield County seems not to be pursuing and encouraging broadband access in this county which has a lot of rural residents who may be exploited by over-priced satellite broadband or resigned to dialup. Many of us in northern Edgefield county feel left out of most infrastructure efforts. To name a few-- limited or virtually non-existent public water and sanitation availability, limited
telecommunications (no cable tv and fringe area reception on over-the-air), limited high priced and poorly serviced broadband via satellite, roads and bridges 'aint' that wonderful either, but nowhere near as bad off as the others I just named.

I was told a couple years ago by a telephone company tech that the only DSL in the Edgefield area stopped at or near Pendarvis Chevrolet. Maybe that's changed, but it's still not available in north county communities. There's fiber optic to a phone punch down box in my area, but no retail customer DSL
availability. Big guys get DSL; little ones don't. My guess is that it goes to the cell tower nearby. Has anyone done a survey to determine how much and what kind of internet access we have county-wide?

Is there anyone who is supposed to be looking out for and representing North County?

Editor's note: Edgefield County Councilman Norman Dorn represents the Northside District. But I doubt he can even spell computer, much less care about helping those with one.

Do you know if the Calliham property is going to be voted on again at the [Edgefield] county council meeting?

Editor's note: As far as I know there is nothing on the agenda. Chairman Kneece stated weeks ago that the "numbers" for remodeling the Calliham property and building a new office building on Railroad Street were supposed to be in by now. As far as I know, the estimates have not been recieved.

I hope parents know that the girls P.E. Coach at MMS (Merriwether Middle School) is a man. Can anyone explain that to me? The school says our girls have to take PE but they won't hire a woman PE coach?  We have 2 daughters in school but THANKFULLY only 1 is at MMS. Mr. Editor I hope you will check into this and maybe get the school board to "think" about who they hire.

Editor's note: I have received calls and emails on this but I have not been able to contact School Superintendent Dr. Crenshaw about this matter. I have two parents who stated they pulled their daughters from the class for that reason, but that is unconfirmed by the school.

I don't know who is trying to vilify (School Board member) Chris Hofman(n) but he is doing his best to fight the rest of them. He is honest and is really trying and he doesn't even get paid for it like the rest do. So maybe you need to attend some of the meetings and see for yourself what goes on. To Mr. Hoffman(n) thank you for caring. You will always have my vote!!!

I am so confused with all the [BS] that is sent in on the calliham property and who says what. Who's right? You? Bettis [Rainsford], Ken [Durham], [County Council Chairman] Monroe [Kneece]?

Editor's note: That is for you to decide. Mr. Rainsford stood at the Town Hall meeting on August 23 and made several claims, including calling EdgefieldDaily.com "inaccurate". However, as reported, it was Mr. Rainsford who was proven to be "inaccurate" in his claims.

The choice of who you believe is up to you. Assess all the information and judge accordingly.

I think somebody needs to take an invetory of building needing repair in the town of edgefield and start cracking down on them if the mayor wants the town to be so beautiful for those visiting. What happened to the ordiance that was supposed to do that mr. mayor? Did it hit a little too close to home?

RE: 'It sounds like said citizen believes that every employee of the Edgefield County School system is corrupt, unconcerned with educating children and only interested in grabbing that fat paycheck for which rural South Carolina schools are renowned.'

No not really. Gene Hueitt, retired, was upstanding; all of the teachers i've ever dealt with are great; the finance officer that just resigned had great integrity; Covar has great integrity and stays the course;  but on the other hand....hmmm, we have individuals in leadership positions that take every opportunity to line their own pockets-so according to you that's acceptable and they're just doing it for the kids."

Alright, you agree it's possible to work in Edgefield County Schools and have integrity........unless you're related to Chris Hoffmann.  Sounds like the ax you're grinding is personal.

You assume he won't rock a boat he's sitting in.  I'd put cash on you being dead wrong.

Has it occurred to you one of the biggest [critics] of Edgefielddaily.com is also one of the most faithful readers. How else is Bettis Ranisford going to know what is written on this website.
LOL (I am laughing out loud and rolling on the ground.)
web posted August 29, 2009

Your defense of the editor of the Citizen News is admirable since he is a friend of yours. The headline from your column by the Editor refered to "Them Good Old Boys" and it made one wonder about the way this thing is happening. The fact that "the Citizen News, who was contracted to run the notice, failed to place the ad on Aug. 19 in order to make the sale on Aug. 8 possible" also gives one some room for concern. With all the other "under the table" activities that seem to go on in Edgefield it just sounded too fishy.

On a much more important note, there is a rally on Sept 3 at the Riverwalk Amphitheater from 5-9 p.m.  It is the SOC (Stop Obama Care) rally and people who are concerned about the government control of healthcare are encouraged to attend. Bring a sock, a smelly one is fine, as they are going to send them to Washington.

Editor's note: It was included, however, I made it clear that the ommission of the notice by the Citizen News was a mistake and not intentional. But they did make sure Rainsford's letter was placed on time. Just making a point, that's all.

Oh my goodness!! Thank you, thank you Edgefielddaily for again shedding light on the shananagans of this county and the good old boys running it. I was appalled by the information about the Citizen News and their little "mistake". It seems to me that Carolina First would have some legal issue with them but I don't really know the law that well. I didn't attend Harvard (for undergraduate) and USC for a law degree as some in this county did. Seems like if you are contracted to print something, you are in trouble if you don't--"mistake" or not. Something to ponder for sure.

I wonder too, if people could get so fed up with some of these things they might consider dropping subscriptions to newspapers that make important mistakes like not printing things they are suppose to be printing. Print news is in trouble these days anyway. At least as far as Edgefield news goes, I prefer to get my news online. I don't take either paper in Edgefield. Just a thought for those that might be upset over this.

One question- Who owns the building that Ten Governors is in? I just noticed the "For Sale" sign outside that building.
Maybe the county would be interested in buying that too. It is pretty close to the other government buildings. I am being sarcastic of course.

Keep that light shining. Roaches run when you turn on the lights.

Editor's note: The failure of the Citizen News not running the announcement for the sale was not intentional, it was a mistake (as stated) by the parent company. That blame does not rest on the shoulders of Publisher/Editor Mike Rosier. He did his job.
web posted August 28, 2009

It sound like Bettis Rainsford, and Tallmadge Knight are tying to come up with a premeditated technically to stop the sale by not placing the ad in the correct papers and the correct number of times.

I have decided Bettis rant about you writing all the wondering minds is his being in denial, can you imagine in his twisted mine "Bettis being wrong and not liked by all " Hell must be freezing over when he cannot control everything.
I am sure there is a named disorder for that.

Dear Editor I am glad to see you are the bigger person by having God in your heart. Your are a true man and seem to love you family by your words and deeds. That speaks volumes.

Editor's note: I have never stooped to such a low level in my opinions or personal comments. I truely feel sad for Mr. Rainsford.

When is something going to be done about the house jacked up next to the Episcopal church?   Seems that some of the money sent out of town could have been put to better use right here.  Mention has been made of buying the Calliham to beautify the town,  what about the house that has been jacked up for years?

I don not see a problem in this uptown. If you are in such a hurry that you can't wait 2 seconds, then maybe you shouldn't come through that area!As for Chief Aston, he is a great person. So are the cops of Johnston. So I wish people would stop complaining so much and live your life for the moment and enjoy it!

What a day it is to find Bettis Rainsford scurrying about to fend of collectors and those unholy individuals of the county who would forsake all decency and attack his moral character. Give me a break. Bettis has for years ran this county with his money and anyone who disagrees is either too young to know better or too ignorant to understand. He has circumvented the system to mitigate his own advancements and no regard for who he stepped on or who he hurt.

I had the unfortunate opportunity to engage our companies in a project only to be left holding a bill for [removed] calling me flippant for requesting that we follow state, county and city ordinances. [removed] I am sure that Carolina First would have liked to have known the same information and not been left holding millions.

I truly enjoyed his rhetoric in the Citizens News. Please refrain next time from invoking the religious piety that you absolutely have no room to operate in next time Bettis. It would be better to go away with some dignity than to sit here crying in the paper over what people think of you.

Lastly, why should the county council  listen to the financial advice from a man who is facing [removed] litigation [removed]. No wonder we are in such financial despair, we are listening to individuals who have no idea what they are talking about or are looking to gain financially from the action.

If one states as a plank in one's election platform your representing the children and people, then you should have the "intestinal fortitude" to maintain your promise. Not saying the spouse is unqualified, as a matter of fact, she should be teaching or in a leadership positition, but that would look to the casual observer, highly suspect since her spouse is a Board member.  And for someone who has a child that established a new AR category surely speaks volumes. However, the appearance of cozying up somewhat tarnishes all that one stands for. Do you honestly think anyone that has a family member employed by this regime is going to really rock the boat that hard?  Afterall, didnt Hoffman just recently go along with the vote to hire a bad apple without the HR even remotely doing their due diligence? But again Covar stood his ground and stood alone.  Yeah it's the same old thing-"everyone elses representative is dirty, but not mine."

Editor's post: I would ask that people pray for Bettis Rainsford after his latest false attack on me and EdgefieldDaily.com. He must be in a very unstable midset and is in need of the Lord's help. I feel sorry for him and hope that others will reach out to help him find stability in the real world. He is obviously crying out for help. I hope there are those in our community that will reach out to him and bring him back from the brink of total dispair.

I haven't seen anything about the sale of (Mt. Vintage) property listed in the papers. Did you jump the gun? Is it being sold or not? I know it has to run in the local papers before it can be sold. Did I miss something?

Editor's note: The legal notice was set to run in one local paper last week. As I am told it was a mistake by the printer that left the notice out at the time of printing. It did run in the Augusta Chronicle, however, they are not the paper of record or of general circulation in the county. I'm not sure what the notice not being run in a local paper will have on the scheduled sale. EdgefieldDaily.com published the sale on Monday August 24.

Join us in Washington DC, September 12 as we gather to help defend our Constitution and our Country from the people that would see them destroyed. It is our duty to defend the rights and liberties that we
have as Americans. These rights were paid for in blood and shame on us if we let them slip away without a peep.

Editor's note: Too many people think rights are granted by the Constitution, they are not. Rights are granted, as stated in the Constitution, by God. The Constitution does not tell the people what they can or cannot do, it states what the government cannot do.

Count me as another in debt to the Rainsford ad for finding Edgefielddaily !!!  I would have not known about your fine publication otherwise.  I have been enjoying reading the archives and catching up on Edgefield politics as well as current events.  I am happy to see that someone is not afraid to take on the social elite in our county.  I have found your news reporting to be nothing more than fair and factual.  If one does well, it is reported as such and, in turn, when one does poorly that, too, is presented.  Having read articles from both sides, I find the arguments against you lacking substance.  The more they write the more I have a two old sayings that come to mind.  "What goes around, comes around" and "Me thinks thou doth protest too much".
Keep up the good work, Mr. Blackwell.  The more loudly they yell, the closer to the truth you are !!!

Editor's note: Thank you for your kind comments and welcome to EdgefieldDaily.com. I have an old saying I remember from my youth, "the hit dog yelps loudest".

Haven't heard anything recently on the rezoning issue from residential to industrial in Merriwether.  I found it rather interesting that Dorn, Kneece and Bright who are not representing that area, voted to rezone, behind the back of Ms. Blackwell who actually represents that district.  As usual no discussion, no justification nothing, noda, ziltch for the 3 leaders.  I propose we make a new rule for the council.  That rule would be for each member  to state their vote on each issue and give a reason to support their vote.  These council members need to be reminded they were voted in to represent our vote not just vote what they want for us.  Common sense would tell you, if I am living in a residential area, I don't want industrial development expanding next door. I has been reported the owner who previously stated he had no plans within the next 5-10 years to expand is building an office??????????  Suspicious yes.

Also, I am confused about these 3 readings procedure.  How many readings on the Calliham building were approved?  I thought the reading prior to the last reading (3rd) was not approved and was actually voted to be a dead issue never to be brought up again.  So how did we get to the approved reading being the 3rd.  Are you confused, I am.  I would think under normal circumstances you would have 1st reading, if that were approved then you would have 2nd reading and the public hearing, if that were approved you would have the 3rd reading, if that were approved then the ordinance would be considered passed.  Something seems terribly wrong with the way this was handled and quite sneeky at that.  Maybe we should check that out.

Re:  "Why the heck is Ken Durham and Bettis Rainsford's big noses being stuffed into county business AGAIN? I liked the idea that somebody raised about building the new office building here in Johnston. Why does everything have to be in Edgefield? We don't have a bunch of run down old buildings on our Main St. because we don't' have Boss Hog and Piglet running our town!!!!" - web posted August 26, 2009

This is hilarious!!! And oh so accurate!
Not to mention if the Mayor and Mr. Rainsford are so concerned about the appearance of the town  -  then get that ugly house off the blocks behind the heritage corridor.  Who would want to have an event there with that house jacked up on blocks - Can you say ghetto?  If you want your town to look nice, then clean up what's already in your backyard before stirring the pot about new buildings the county is trying to decide on.

Might I add, running the "hate piece"  from Rainsford in the Citizens news makes the editor of the Citizens news look really bad. First of all, they did not have the courtesy to give to the Citizens news this trash at same time they gave to the Advertiser (some respect Rainsford has for the Citizens news editor and his work) but yet he is going to run the article.  What purpose does this serve now? I hope people cancel their subscription to that obvious pot-stirring, dissention causing, drama inducing paper!  Maybe he really thinks that running it will increase sales? Give me a break - it just makes him look like a goon. Also, haven't you helped and worked with him on articles in the past?  If I were you, I would distance myself from the Citizens News.  That was just stupid and immoral and downright tacky!  I hope you have more dignity than to respond to this ludicrous drama.

I saw that the citizen snooze kept Rainsford's letter alive another week. I thought you guys were friends? What gives?

Editor's note: The Citizen News Publisher Mike Rosier and I are friends and we work closely together on many developing stories. We discussed him publishing the attack piece by Bettis Rainsford long before it ran. He is free to make his own editorial decisions and I respect his position. It did result in EdgefieldDaily.com refusing to allow our breaking stories to be published by The Citizen News this week which is why there were no bookings, no breaking reports, updates on the shooting suspect wanted, and the Town Hall meetings by Councilman Rodney Ashcraft in this week's paper as reported by EdgefieldDaily.com.

We continue to have an open dialog on current events and our personal relationship remains unchanged. Until the issue is revisited, the only place reports from EdgefieldDaily.com will be available is on EdgefieldDaily.com.

My mind is wandering today. First, I am sorry for the Kennedy family with the death of Ted Kennedy, but he was one of the most liberal senators we have had. I hope they will not play the sympathy card to try to get any part of this socialistic healthcare program through in order to honor him in some way.  He did not represent the core views of this country. Sadly , he struggled, as many do, with cancer and he got much better care than any of us would have gotten if we were under the health plan he supported. He was fortunate not to have been under any kind of Obamacare. Of course at this point, none of Congress or the Obama family would have to be under this wonderful plan they are proposing. I wonder why that is.

Bettis R. must be sad with Kennedy's death, as he apparently supported Obama  (very similar views with Kennedy, only further left than Kennedy)  financially in the election. It was interesting to read the link from the poster to wandering minds that showed campaign donations. I think you usually put your money where your beliefs lie.  I don't know, they says birds of a feather, flock together. It is all about control, isn't it?

Thank you again, Mr. Blackwell, for shedding light on what is really happening in this county.

I was in Edgefield today and walked by the new Turkey Shop. It looks like its going to be a really nice place. We might not be able to buy a decent shirt in Edgefield but at least we can get some good hunting clothes. I did see this big turkey in the window that said Edgefield was the "town of ten governors". I might be wrong but I think only two of the ten were from the town of edgefield the rest were from the county that reached across the old district that included McCormick, Saluda, Greenwood, and all the way to Ninty Six. So much for truth in advertising. Doesnt' Bettis (Rainsford) own that building?

Editor's note: Mr. Rainsford does own the building the Turkey Store will be located.

Editor's note: This was sent as a Letter to the Editor but the writer did not want his or her name listed or where they lived. So it was placed here because I actually enjoyed reading the letter.

Yep it’s true. There is a gaggle of ladies in this town who are keeping the best eatery in these parts to themselves! My spouse broke down and lassoed me into taking a meal there today, and I was definitely surprised. What surprised me was this: while there was about twenty-five large, medium, small and sundry type ladies there wearing feed bags, there was nary a gent at all. Now, I do confess one other solitary fellow of the gent persuasion did come in I as I was leaving with wife person. But he just did not much look like the talkative type, as I happen to be. Momma always said I was born a hollering and never did shut up much, and that I’d talk the ears of a stone rabbit!

Well I never did no harm to a stone rabbit that I recall, but it does seem like the gents hereabouts are missing out on a really good thing. Now, do not get me wrong, I was never much for muslin napkins and cross-eyed aunts when I was growing up. You see, Momma was a biscuits and gravy gal out of Lake City over there between Florence and Sumter. Then, I was at least partially brung up by my ole granddaddy who was a shanty bred Irishman from Darlington with corned beef n cabbage on his mind. Occasionally he and his daughter (Yep, that’s my Mom) would throw in some fried sweet potatoes left over from Sunday dinner when the mood was right, and the taters were there to be had.

The grand ladies at the place I am talking about prolly would not even know how to fry a sweet potato from a boiled possum, but now the cross-eyed aunts is something different. I know, because I asked them flat out if they baked them things right there in the shop and they avowed…that they DID!

Not only that, but it has been fifty years or so since I had a root-beer float poured from a bottle I had to hide under the table lest ole Lowell Clark happened by and see me imbibing and think it was  the real thing.

Summing it all up, I had me a big meat and cheese filled cross-eye, a side order of tortilla chips and humongous slice of cucumber pickle designed to tickle the innards of a case hardened trucker…I just hope the truckers do not learn of this place cause parking is hard enough already. Gents you better take your best gal in hand and git on down to [removed] in a hurry…when word gits out you wont be finding a seat much less a parking place!

All too often I think the name of this column should be changed from "Wandering Minds" to "Empty Heads."

The outstanding citizen who has taken the time to criticize Chris Hoffmann because his wife has been hired by a principal as a library aide is one case in point.  One wouldn't expect this crusader for justice to know that Mrs. Hoffmann has volunteered regularly in the same school for the past 10 years, or that she is free to be considered for any position for which she is qualified.

It sounds like said citizen believes that every employee of the Edgefield County School system is corrupt, unconcerned with educating children and only interested in grabbing that fat paycheck for which rural South Carolina schools are renowned.

It is interesting to note his self-reliant philosophy.  Since he seems determined to "take care of it ourselves," I'll look forward with interest to see how that works out for him when he personally takes responsibility for educating all the children in Edgefield County.

Yup. Guess he's doing the best he can. Just like flimsy grahamnesty and those Rhinos.   Hoffman just learned from Livingston. Senator Jim DeMint and Member of the House, Representative J.Gresham Barrett

Sirs: As a both a veteran and one formerly assigned to the U.S. Coast Guard Facility inside the U.S. Naval Station at what we then called ‘Gitmo’; I am aware that the President has the authority as Commander-In-Chief to close the camp holding terrorist detainees there at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. This authority can only be thwarted by  a full fledged and legal Congressional Prohibition (which will probably require a veto over-ride) of housing the defined population within the borders of our nation.

I therefore urgently suggest that you both consider offering such a bill quickly. For a very simple reason: The small towns that have expressed interest in accepting this criminal population (due to economic pressures) seriously underestimate the resulting threat the presence of the extremists will create: The terrorists have shown (1) A willingness to die for their beliefs en masse, (2) A willingness to use high explosives in crowded spaces filled with innocent women and children, (3) and a fanatical zeal to free their imprisoned brethren.

Picture an airliner crashed into the walls of a stateside prison, or a Timothy McVeigh type truck bomb exploded near such walls, giving a breech into which suicidal and heavily armed intruders are willing to advance!

I only know of one instance in the United States where intruders tried to extract an inmate by landing a helicopter* in the prison yard…we Americans in the main are not very suicidal. Bring the extremist detainees to our shores and beware of the consequences!

If they must be moved consider the now closed Alcatraz or Fort Hamilton in the Atlantic Ocean, then add the cost of continuing naval blockades to KEEP PEOPLE OUT as well as to keep the imprisoned secure! In Guantanamo, the entire base is under continuing air, land and sea surveillance by a highly sophisticated military organization complemented by a heavy contingent of U.S. Marines…it is virtually impregnable, and no attempt has ever been mounted to free the terrorists there... do not allow our nest to be fouled by default.

Is there something that can be done about Calhoun St in Johnston? If there’s a big truck or a bus coming down the road and people are parked on the sides you have to stop to let them by. It’s ridiculous. All these long trucks sticking out in the road plus the people who don’t know how to park. Maybe the Chief needs to get his guys out there writing tickets so we can drive down our roads without having to dodge parked cars and oncoming traffic!!!!

To the person who wrote about JET Middle School, you have a number of facts wrong.  First of all, at the present time, the canteen consists of two drink machines and two snack machines.  They require money in order to work.  There is no purpose in taking students all the way down to that area unless they have money to use in the machines.  Next, there is no covered area outside at JET.  It was never built.  Finally, we have not used the basketball court during the day yet because it is simply too hot.  The temperature on the court is much hotter than on the grass, and the students have to be back in class within twenty minutes - all hot, sweaty, and ready to learn.  Finally, we do not allow food outside because often students throw the trash on the ground instead of in the appropriate receptacles.  There is no sense in making our groundskeepers' jobs more difficult, not to mention that the bottles and cans can destroy lawn mowers.  Now, instead of listening only to what your child comes home and tells you, you might want to actually visit the school and find out what is really going on.  It is obvious from your comments that you have not been there recently and that you may not have met our new principal who has been working very hard to make positive changes.

Gaye Holmes is rude and unprofessional (there was a reason Merriweather parents sent her packing). There is no longer a microwave for children to have their home lunch heated up by teachers. Second...JET Middle. Last year I went rounds with the cafeteria. If a kid is out of funds, they receive an alternative lunch, but to make them sit apart from other students is discrimination! Also, why
can't kids have a bottle of water at recess? Teachers say they are no allowed to have them outside...with this heat! Students that want to go to the canteen before lunch have to show their money. If say the nachos are not sold that day and the student didn't want anything else, they are forced to buy something or get in trouble for going to the canteen and not getting anything! The school improvement committee saved money to build a covered picnic area...but the kids aren't allowed to go to it because it is not near
their recess area...WT[Heck]! Same goes for the fenced basketball court! Why even build the things? If the new principle doesn't get on the ball soon, I'm calling his cousin....Dr. Crenshaw! But that would be a waste of time too!

Although I do not live in Edgefield county, I am an ardent reader of your paper and the Wandering Minds section.

Being removed from the situations within your county allows myself and other family members to read your columns without prejudice and the unbelievable goings on within the city and county.

It is without doubt that Edgefield is run by the Rainsford Administration and not any publically elected council. With that being said, Mr. Rainsford has done many, many good things for the county over the years. But as frequently happens, when a person or group of persons is allowed to assume leadership and control, over time they take control and influence people. The sooner that county council begins to distance themselves from his group, the better they will be at making descisions based on the needs and wants of the people that put them in office. I have been involved in small town politics in the past and can see what is happening from experience. The re-vote and subsequent purchase of the Calliham property, and the improper accounting of recreation funds are issues that the Council Chairman(s) should not stand for and must begin immediate investigations. These issues are both unethical, immoral and illegal. Be aware that Edgefield is becoming a laughing stock, not because of the reporting, but because of what is being reported.

It is an interesting fact but light overtakes the darkness. It is actually a Biblical principle. I think Edgefielddaily is the light shining in the darkness of old time ways, good old boy systems, status quo, etc. etc. The light shows what is in the dark and sometimes it is good and sometimes it isn't. It is funny but I think more people are afraid of the dark than are afraid of the light. The ones afraid of the light are afraid to be found out. The ones afraid of the dark are afraid of the dangers there. Edgefield has apparently been in the dark for a long time. Edgefielddaily is making the dark less of a scary place because the truth is starting to be seen. We now have some light shining and it is scaring some people because they might be losing control.

As far as you being part of the problem and not the solution is a ridiculous thought. This is obviously the opinion of one of the elite in Edgefield. They must not have been the victim of broken promises or financial loss because of some of the  other elite.   What I see is that there are options to do things that are not the way the elite of Edgefield want to do them. Perhaps there are ideas out there that benefit the taxpayers and not one or two people.  The fact that you publish some of these ideas, or you make known the truth about some of the issues, certainly makes you more of the solution , not the problem. How can it be a problem if you are really wanting to help the citizens of Edgefield get more for their tax dollars?  Oh... I forgot... it may not meet the personal agendas of some of those Edgefield elite.

There is too much intertwined, crazy, conflicts of interests in things like this Calliham purchase (Did they vote to purchase or not? I don't quite understand what a vote means in Edgefield County) Anyway, keep up the good work, Edgefielddaily.

Oh, and I am really a person writing my own post, not the Editor. I guess accusing him of writing all of the wandering mind posts is like the administration saying all the town halls are orchestrated. I had to laugh when I read your article about the town hall meeting. I cannot believe that one of the reasons to buy the Calliham building would be to keep Edgefield beautiful. Geez, look at what is across the street from Callihams and look at the square and how run down and poorly it looks.  Look at the backs of all those old buildings. Do people really think that argument flies? It is a money issue and a tax payer issue. I think Rainsford and Durham stand to benefit in more ways that one. Who knows what connections or incentives they have for the county to buy that building. You don't have to think very hard to figure it out. I am glad there are some clear thinking people (only two but we are getting there) on the council who are questioning these kinds of actions. That whole debacle with the activity funds is just mind boggling. Wrong doing....ya think? How long would an honest county administrator last here? The following quote from German Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels is in full operation today.  “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to
repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

People sign promissory notes that state, "I promise to pay" but end up on the courthouse steps or in repossession.  What part of I promise to pay is so difficult to understand.   Lies pave the way for the evil and leave a trail of unfulfilled promises and yet there is self-justification in the carnage they left behind. There is, however, some small joy in watching the scoundrels scramble when their lies begin to unravel, to see a cabal turn on itself and to see the rats abandon the sinking ship. When politicians put themselves first and believe their credentials or positions justify any action, the citizenry suffers.  There are no racial limitation for such corruption as it resides in individuals hearts. Was there ever an honest black man and an honest white man that could not get along with each other? The Reverend Doctor King had it right when he said content of character defines a person.  The fruit of the tree is the validation of the tree's goodness.

Last nights meeting was a prime example.  Today's story only presents one side. You failed to report some very valid remarks in support of the Calliham purchase. We all have skeletons in our closets (including you and I).  Give Bettis, Ken and Obama a rest.  We all know your opinion by now.  Bettis and Ken have done a lot of good for this county and town (believe it or not). Asides from the numerous spelling errors in your written comment, I find it difficult to understand what it is you're trying to say.  You begin by letting everyone know that you don't appreciate "outsiders" coming into Edgefield County and "spouting their Louisiana wisdom."  Yet, at one point in the remainder of your comment you talk about Edgefield's failing school system, failing government and in general what a lousy place the county has become. Perhaps one of the reasons that Edgefield County is failing is because it's been run by the same people for years.

Complacency (you can get a dictionary and look it up) breeds a  "that's the way we've always done it" attitude in individuals.  In turn, that complacency will destroy anything that gets in its way.  Individuals who know that they'll be elected simply based on their last names or the color of their skin or the amount of money they have in the local bank are often the most complacent in a small town.  It appears to me that you've given up on Edgefield County, while on the other hand individuals such as Jim Jackson, John Brown Jr. and Charles Kemp have decided that Edgefield County and her people are worth fighting for.

Perhaps you could respond to my comments and clarify your standing on some of the local issues.  Maybe, just maybe, you could even try and present some ideas that would help solve the problems our county is now facing.

i read the (stuff) Bettis (Rainsford) said about you in the paper (The Edgefield Advertiser) and his questions. the first thing that came to mind was how you praise your wife and your long marriage.  How long have you been with your wife? have you ever been divorced for running around? Have you ever had your business foreclosed on for not paying your bills? are you disabled? i'd like to know.

Editor's note: I have been with my wife for 33 years, married for 25 of them. I actually proposed to my wife on the day I met her in 1976 at Strom Thurmond when she began school as a freshman. You will never tell me that "love at first sight" isn't real. We have raised three wonderful children. They are individuals and have been encouraged to think for themselves.

I have owned several businesses in the past and none of them have ever had any legal filings against them.

In spite of seven fractures to my back (1983) two to my neck (1991) a loss of an eye (1994) I am not "handicapped" and I recieve no compensation from the Federal Government. Even when I could apply for such funds I refused. What God gave me to deal with, I dealt with. That is between He and I, not the government.

Editor's note: Mr. Calliham's cousin, Fletcher Lawrence held the lien. He also purchased the property at that time for $50k with one bid. He now stands to make a profit of $265,000 from the purchase if the county goes forward with the plan to buy.

Huh?  What kind of babble is that?  And you talk about us not being the brightest bulb on the tree-yours done burnt out.  As for being a newcomer, yeah you're right, I've only lived here for 18 years, so compared to you, I guess I am a new comer.  However, since I've been here I gotten involved and helped Kitchens, Bishop, Hudson, and Chitty get unseated.  I helped reverse a bogus assessment in the mid nineties, leading what was known as the Edgefield County Taxpayers Association, and I even led the charge in getting our road paved after hearing years of lies from good ole Wayne Admas and the thugs at the County council.

Just because you were born and raised in Edgefield all your life doesn't give you any more pull.  Hell, if you were watching what was going on and did something about it, then it wouldn't be this messy now.  Must have been sleeping under the old peach tree.

I read in the wandering minds that Keisha Bryant is being considered for a promotion, this just baffles my mind. Have the hours she puts in the office increased? I seriously doubt it. What qualifications does she have to be qualified for this position? Shouldn't this be something that is published for all the citizens of Edgefield County, when it is these same citizens that pay her salary? I am certain you will be able to shed a little light on my questions and whom do we need to contact in protest of her getting a step up when she really needs a step down or out the door? Maybe this does seem a little harsh and derogatory, but I can assure you it isn't I have had the misfortune of meeting and gotten to briefly know her and are very justified as I am sure anyone else that has had the misfortune probably agrees.

I am sure that young Ben Herlong is proud of his first deer ever. Congratulations, he is much nicer than mine. The average age buck killed in SC is just over eighteen months. It takes six to seven years for a buck to reach maximum growth maturity so one can understand why with our long harvest season and no significant harvest restrictions SC  has  very few quality bucks harvested when compared to other Southeastern States that set harvest restrictions and have good hunter education programs. I have never met a deer hunter that isn't always talking about harvesting a big mature buck. I love the taste of venison and over the past 50 years have determined that does usually make a better meal than bucks. When hunting this year please consider that by letting a young buck go, he has a chance to grow. You may check out last years (2008) buck survey on a local quality managed hunting club by googling Cedar Ridge Plantation. The 2009 survey is underway and may be online by October. To learn more about whitetail deer you may join a fine organization , Quality Deer Management, founded by a fine South Carolinian, Joe Hamilton.  Be safe, respect other hunters, the forest, and remember hunting is a privilege.

Our Sheriff provides adequate services, although some of fluff should get up outta their chairs and go do some work. The courthouse has good services overall. Many of those elected officials have held up to their end of the bargain.( Gilly,Newby,Traxler )  The appointed ones, that's a different story all together. Magistrates are appointed and here we open the Pandoras box. All I can say is that one is mean as heck and loves law enforcement. The other, gives a pretty fair shake most of the time and some of the cops don't like (him or her) for that. If you really want a fair shake, plead nolo el guilty -o and ask for a jury trial, let your fellow citizens decide your fate. It can't hurt to take the biased judge out of the equation. No matter what credentials a new administrator has, if they are competent, trustworthy, knowledgeable and will speak the truth, they will not last, if they get hired.  Only those who will push the message that Boss Hog and the incompetent council members want will be hired and stay.  Until there is a change in the council members, until they want to make Edgefield County better for everyone, we will continue to experience the same "good ole boy system".

I feel sorry for Pettigrew, he is a decent man.  Problem, he got caught in the web that surrounds this County.  However, he has been in this county long enough to know what he was getting into.   Durham and Rainsford are correct, all the negative publicity is harmful to Edgefield County growth.  What resident, industry or retail business will want to locate here?  The solution to the negativity is not to squash it, it is to look it square in the face and fix it.  Hiding behind closed doors, keeping secrets, pushing agendas which benefit only a chosen few is not the way.  Actually making our schools, public safety, recreation and retail the best it can be is the answer.

Why should it be that a few citizens are holding the County hostage because it doesn't fit their agenda?   There is more energy and money wasted in this County than it would take to succeed if all our efforts were directed properly.  There are pockets of citizens throughout the County who are moving this County forward.  We have two council members who want to move this County forward.  When will the other members stop resisting and work together for all of Edgefield County?

Dear Mr. Editor,
There appears to be a few facts left out of the article on the purchase of the Calliham Property.  While I agree with you that the county does not need to purchase that property and certainly that in the days, months and years to come, it will end up costing the county considerable tax dollars to restore, maintain, etc.  I do not agree that the county does not need additional office space.

When the Neighborhood Center burned on Church Street, more was lost than just the "Sennior Citizens" location.  Other offices located in that very building included Veteran's Affairs, The Legislative Office for Congress, Social Security Administration, the economic assistance office of GLEAMNS, and Cornerstone.

Senior Citizens already had their new facility on the drawing board.  You nor anyone else has clearly looking into the financial fiasco that has gone on at the Edgefield Senior Citizens Council.  And if you look into some of the displaced locations some of the other offices have been relocated to, it would be extremely discouraging.  Veteran's Affairs and Cornerstone are mandated services by the state and federal governments.  Both are located in small quarters that do not provide for much, if any, confidentiality.  Social Security is non-existent in Edgefield County at this point.  GLEAMNS Economic Assistance is barely operationing at the Health Department.  Presently the part of the "old elementary school" that is still standing at the Church Street site is a sham.  The building leaks, the floors are coming up on the second floor, and there is extremely poor janitorial service provided via contract with the county that is inadequate and some weeks non-functioning.

My other issue with the Calliham property is "sprucing it up" to meet needs now is like covering a cancer that is going to erupt all over.  The county needs to be involved in a pro-active maintenance program for its property to lessen the tax burden on its citizens.  Also your report that you site leave out the fire and the condition of the other offices where county services are housed.  The report is faulty.  Yes, there are reasons not to purchase the Calliham property, but that study does not justify that.

Thanks for the venue to say these things.

Editor's note: You point out the offices may be in need of repair, but that does not mean they do not operate. It is a good point for rebuilding the lost space, which I have long supported. It is possible to build the new office building on Railroad Street (or Church St, Star Rd, or other locations we own) which would be completed under the amount of insurance available and not impede the planned expansion of the Law Enforcement Center.  We certainly agree that none of this requires the purchase of the Calliham property.

(Editor's note: The post below exceeds word limit due to content.)

1.  According to the published report of Mr. Ashcraft's first Town Hall meeting, Mrs. Calliham stated the building had been appraised at $450,000.  The records available on the county web site indicate the building is appraised at $297,926.  Also according to the county records, the property taxes of over $6,000 for 2008 have not been paid.  It sounds like the county has overpaid for the property according to the Edgefield County Assessor.  If the county ends up buying the building who is going to pay the overdue taxes?  It sounds like the building can be bought for the taxes in the near future.  In any event, the price for the building can only go down from this point forward.  The county should build what it needs on the county owned land now, and if in 5 years the Calliham property is needed, it can be bought for far less than the current purchase price or can be obtained through eminent domain if it is still standing.

2.  According to the same published report, Mrs. Calliham indicated the "county" approached them about selling the building and using it rent free.  Who specifically from the county approached the Callihams?

3.  Mayor Durham, apparently in his capacity of an owner of Edgefield Construction, keeps throwing out numbers as to the cost of refurbishing the lower 4,000 square foot floor of the Calliham property.  Since Mayor Durham is directly lobbying the council to buy the property and providing numbers to induce the purchase, is not Edgefield Construction hopelessly conflicted and if the property is purchased be conflicted out of bidding on the refurbishing job?

(Editor's note: Edgefield Mayor Ken Durham stated at the Town Hall meeting the town was going to offer $15,000 towards the purchase of the property by the county if it goes through, although that has not been approved by the Edgefield Town Council. His strong advocacy of the purchase, his offering money from the town while mayor, and his position of Edgefield Construction, to the county to purchase should make his ability to bid on any of the renovations, now or later, questionable.)

4.  Why buy the building at all if the upper 9,000 square feet is not going to be used by the county in the forseeable future?  If the Callihams continue to use the upper floor rent free, where is their incentive to maintain the upper floor at all?  Who is responsible for the roof etc.?  Assuming the lower floor will need to be brought up to code with sprinklers etc., will the county be required to bring the upper floor up to code at the same time?  If not if there is a fire on the upper floor, the lower floor, even if sprinklered, will be ruined by the water used to extinguish a fire on the upper floor and will probably be uninhabitable for some time.  Can the county even get insurance on the entire building if the entire building is not brought up to code immediately?

5.  How does Councilman Dorn earn a living?  From his unintelligible mumblings at the county council meetings he appears to be functionally illiterate yet according to county records drives a $72,000 Mercedes.  The Benz appears to be worth more than any of the properties listed on the county records under his name.

(Editor's note: Norman Dorn is a retired teacher for the Edgefield County School District.)

6.  Can anyone list any major initiatives that Mr. Pettigrew accomplished during his tenure as County Administrator?  While he appears to be a nice person, his tenure has been marked by an incompetent reassessment and what else?  What steps has he taken while in office to ensure that the upcoming reassessment will be any more competent than the last one?

(Editor's note: He pushed the Calliham thing until it went the "right way".)

7.  Mr. Rainsford has run Delta Woodside and Mount Vintage into the ground.  Why would the county even think of doing business with him by way of Edgefield Construction?  His trail of broken promises and slow pay/no pay way of doing business is telling.

8
.  According to published reports the water run off from the Edgefield Grill has significantly damaged the back of the Calliham property.  Generally a land owner is responsible for the run off from his land.  If this is so in South Carolina, it appears the Callihams should have had Mr. Rainsford control the water from the Grill and pay to repair the damage from the run off.  Why hasn't the Building Department required Mr. Rainsford to control his water?  If the county proceeds to buy the building will Mr. Rainsford be required to pay for the existing damage or will he skate once again?

9.  Will Mr. Kneece host a Town Hall Meeting to explain why the Calliham purchase makes any sense?

(Editor's note: Chairman Kneece stated he would be attending the Town Hall meeting held by Councilman Ashcraft Wed. night)

10.  Is SLED investigating the missing concession funds from Bettis Park?  What steps has the county taken to provide a proper accounting of the funds from this date forward?

(Editor's note: I cannot release anything more than what has already been released on this matter other than to say that, to my knowldge, SLED is not investigating at this time. Additional reports will be coming as more information is obtained.)

As others have stated, until the county government is changed so the county is run in a businesslike manner and is transparent to the citizens, no industry will relocate here and the county will not be able to move forward as the economy eventually recovers.  It is time for Mr. Kneece, Mr. Bright and Mr. Dorn to return to private life.

I want to thank Edgefield Daily for the movie tonight (Friday). It was the largest crowd ever and everybody was talking about it! We were all talking about things in the movie and what it was like when it was being made. In 2 yrs of them showing movies it took Edgefield Daily to bring us a movie that spotlights Edgefield. Thank you Edgefield Daily and the Editor for everything. As far as Mayor Ken Durham goes why haven't you or Bettis Rainsford ever sponsored a movie? Before you go throwing stones at the editor saying he never does anything for the county you might want to move out of your glass house!!!!!! He contributes to many local charities and provides free advertising for the one I am involved with and I was told he does it for others too. That is money out of his pocket too. He cares about the WHOLE county not just the little click in Edgefield that thinks they run everything. Keep up the good work!!! We love you and support you and Edgefield Daily!!!!!

Editor's note: I am glad you, as well as others, enjoyed the movie. I have received several comments in personal emails about the movie choice. Unfortunately we were unable to attend the showing.

I read the post by Ken Durham and was amused by his off base remark about the editor doing very little to contribute anything positive to Edgefield County.  I would begin listing just a portion of the things I know of that are very positive that the editor has done for this county, however, he wouldn't post it because it would be over the word limit.  So I'll just say this....Here's your problem with Roy Blackwell, Mr. Durham.  Roy Blackwell does not have some fat cat telling him what to say and when to say it like you do.  He's not made to dance on strings by the master puppeteer and you envy that.  The fact that he can report things as they are and not how someone dictates them is because he hasn't sold his sole to the devil.  That frightens those of you who have.  Thank you Mr. Blackwell for not being bought and sold.  Thank you for looking out for the taxpayor and not being afraid to call it like it is.  Stay the course.  Obviously you have their attention and that can't be all bad.  Mr. Durham, I for one am tired of you trying to speak for me.  In fact, I would appreciate a little less conversation from you, Easy Rider.  Are you jumping to Mr. Pettigrew's defense because you think he can't defend himself?  You're not really saying much for him either then, are you?  Get down off your soap box and clean up your own backyard.

it seems that Mr. KNeece and Mrs. Blackwell worked well together during the budget process earlier in the year. This turned out to be a good budget for the county to follow. I for one hope that this type of team work on the Council can continue for the betterment of the County. Now that Mr. Pettigrew has resigned maybe a good administrator will be hired to take the Council in the right direction. The sooner this is done the better it will be for the entire County and for the Council.

This is to Mr. Ken Durham: Mr. Blackwell has done a lot more than you know because he doesnt' toot his own horn like you like to do. I saw a wreck one day about two years ago and everybody was standing around scared because we didnt' know what to do. He came up and took control and crawled inside one of the cars to help the woman inside. To this day I don't know how he got inside the upsidedown car. He told us to call 911 and give them the information he gave us until the fire department and the ambulance came. He didn't leave that woman's side until she was in the ambulance. He was kind and calm the whole time. When it was over he got in his truck and left without saying a word and he was soaking wet from sweat. I call that giving back to the community in a BIG way.

I do agree somewhat with Mr. Durham’s post. Your editorial appeared to be more of a personal attack and seemed a little mean spirited. I have written in before stating in short that I didn’t feel that Mr. Pettigrew seemed to be the kind of fellow that would intentionally do things that had negative impacts on the county or its citizens. That opinion based on my interactions with him. I stand by that opinion.

I have no opinion based in fact on his qualifications or performance as administrator so I can’t disagree with your beef there. I will say I haven’t seen too much evidence of his alleged inadequacies in black in white although it is insinuated often. I am not familiar with the personal attack by Mr. Rainsford on yourself and or your family, but what does Mr. Pettigrew have to do with that? If the county is better off with another administrator so be it - and let it be. I hope Mr. Pettigrew fairs well and suspect he will be happier out of the fire. Let’s move on and not kick someone when they are down. There are much worse issues with county government than Mr. Pettigrew it seems to me.

I enjoy checking in with Edgefield Daily on occasion as many others do. You seem to have a good thing going. It is interesting (sometimes) to hear the many other opinions of reason voiced on your site, including yours, whether I agree or not. It is certainly the best source for Edgefield County news. I must say however that I believe you, as editor, may run the risk of alienating some of your readers if you continued to post seemingly unreasonable and very personal editorials similar to the one concerning Mr. Pettigrew.

It may not be fair but we expect a little more from the editor than we do the average Wandering Minds poster. Thanks

Editor's note: I completely understand your position. A mistake I make often is assuming that readers are up to date and have read all reports published when I do not link previous stories in an opinion column. Just as I broke the story on the lies being told about the need for the Calliham property purchase on Friday, there is a lot more that has not been made public at this time regarding Mr. Pettigrew's tenure.

As a person, I believe John Pettigrew is a nice guy, a loving husband and father, and is a likable guy. But the things he has done as County Administrator, including giving an exclusive on a pubic press release, is just another example of the way I believe he has manipulated things to fit his own personal whims and agenda and those who direct him. Some of this information has been made public and some has not - at this time.

I was sickened by Ken Durham's letter concerning the editor of Edgefielddaily. Mr Durham must not appreciate truth coming to the county via this publication. Well, that would make sense since Edgefielddaily actually brings to light a lot of the wrong doing that is going on and has gone on. That is not a bad thing, it is only a bad thing to those who are doing wrong. What do you say to that, Mr. Durham?  There were questions about Mr. Pettigrew taking the position of administrator from the beginning. It was really a crazy way he got the job, when the really qualified people were ignored and all of a sudden he was in the job. It does make those of us that are not in the "in group" in Edgefield wonder about him and about those who support him. I am sure he and his family are nice people and have done things for the community, but come on, he really should not have ever been the administrator. Most of the clear thinking citizens in this county know what went on. We all didn't fall off a turnip truck.

I just wonder what Mr. Durham and Mr. Rainsford have to gain from this Calliham purchase. There has to be some personal benefit to both of them. What does that tell us? Taxpayers should NOT be supporting either of those two men.  What do they have over Kneece, that he would make such a dramatic change in his opinion?

I was at the Town meeting with Rodney Ashcraft and I am sorry, but none of Mr. Durham's reasons for buying that building made economic sense. Taxpayers should not be held accountable for this purchase. How easy it is to defend spending when you are using other people's money. Sounds like our national leaders doesn't it?

Where do we sign the petition?

Thank you Mr. Editor for the hard work you do and for the honest reporting you do. You are the voice for the people in this area that have had to live under this crazy system for too long. You are doing a true service to this community.

Editor's note: Thank you for reading and your kind comments. As far as the petition - I have a feeling it will not be needed. That is not to say that I disagree with those pushing it, the majority of the county council has flipped on this issue more times than McDonalds has flipped hamburgers. And it is obvious there is no such thing as a final vote. When the petition is released I will report on contacts of those involved and locations that it will available to be signed. I am told that there may be a format available for those wishing to join the effort to download a document to sign and mail it in or drop it off at one of the locations. If so, that will also be made available.

While traveling in Canada I ran across this article. If anyone thinks that ObamaCare is going to deliver "quality" services and not end up rationing health care better think again.  Once the politicians cannot hike taxes to pay for the "free" health care, the only option is to ration services and care.  If the public option is passed. it will eventually become a single payer sytem.  The natural result of a single payer system is rationing as no one can afford unlimited, "free" health care.

In regards to the Teacher/Aide that was dismissed from MES.  I know personally of a certain person that this Teacher/Aide has hurt in many regards.  She has no morals when it comes to other people who she thinks are beneath her.  If that is what you call a christian then we must have different definitions for that word.  We the parents of children at MES do not need to have that type of "CHRISTIAN" teaching or taking care of our children.  Investigate and find out the truth in regards to what happened.

Editor's note: This topic is getting close to being shut down for several reasons. As it continues, and  more information is made available, the more likely it is that can be used to identify the individual. No crimes were committed and the person is not in the public realm. Editor's post: I have received a lot of correspondence about the SC DOT worker that was spotted on the side of the road sleeping, or "laid out" in a chair, on Hyw 430.  This is not the first report from citizens on this individual which is why I have asked citizens to take pictures using their cell phones to document the situation. If you remember, a DOT worker that "flipped off" a funeral procession is still on the job and, as far as we can tell, was never reprimanded for his actions. Phillip Brooks with the SCDOT District Office in Greenwood said at the time that he was aware of the incident and that his office was investigating. “That is certainly not something we would tolerate from one of our employees if he did that,” Mr. Brooks said. “I can assure you that we will take the appropriate measures if this turns out to be the case.”

Brooks said he would follow up and get back with EdgefieldDaily.com, which he never did. That buldge in the rug where everything is getting swept is growing a bit too large to ignore.

I can’t say that your opinion column regarding the resignation of John Pettigrew surprises me but you do continue to disappoint me with your negative, hateful, down right mean spirited comments.  There was absolutely no reason for the things you said about a man who had already resigned.  John Pettigrew, as well as his entire family have given a lot to this community for decades, and he doesn’t deserve such comments from anyone, especially Roy Blackwell who does very little to contribute anything positive to Edgefield County.

I am confident that I speak for a large portion of this community when I thank John Pettigrew for his past service and wish him well in his future endeavors.

Editor's note: When I expressed to Mayor Durham concerns about posting his name with this post, I asked one question: Where was his condemnation of the vile and lie filled attack issued by Bettis Rainsford upon myself and my wife on the day we buried her mother?

His condemnation was never exhibited. I gave my opinion based on the public service of a public official, Mr. Rainsford published his vile attack based on hate and lies at the time of the death of a beloved family member. Yet, I am "mean spirited"?

Re:  “The one for Christians is not on sin-our names are recorded in the Book of Life-  but on the works that we do for God and the crowns He will reward us with.”
I really liked that and that is my belief.  God promised to send the Christians sins into the sea of forgetfulness never to rise up against them in this world nor the world to come.   If you noticed, all my talking was about sinners and evil.  Never once did I address what would happen to Christians.  Now I have found out that even a sinner knows what God promised the ones who repent and give their life to Christ.  In Romans 7:14-18, Paul stated that there was a war going on inside of him, but if you move on down to Romans 8:1-6, you will notice that Paul realized how to become victorious over the flesh.  And then on over in Galatians 5:16-18, Paul says, “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. {17} For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. {18} But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law”.  Paul realized that through his relationship with God he had become victorious over sin.  Now Paul has a different struggle: To live or Die. His yearning to be with God was continuously pulling him.
Now Paul had a thorn in his side that has never been identified by man.  Paul in his own words told us why he had the thorn: ‘To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 2 Corinthians 12:7.”   Paul’s thorn was there to keep him humble.  And since you mentioned Paul I must say that I do not see any humility in the majority of the posts being posted.
The responses I have written have always been a call to sinners and those who are sprouting evil.  And I must say that you did not at anytime dispute what I said would happen to sinners.  I can truthfully say that they will not face a lovable God but one who will be full of wrath.  So please, do not compare the two.  I stand for Godly principles.  I do not attempt to judge but I will point out falsehoods when I see them.  The Bible says we will know the tree by the fruit it bears.  Did I miss something on some of these trees (posts)?  I hope to God I did?  I am praying for yours and everyone’s salvation.  And I am praying that people will begin to walk and live like they have been saved by Christ.   I am praying for all of God’s people to come to true understanding of Him and His glory.  But I will never dress up what God says will happen to sinners and their facing a second death.  It wouldn’t be fair.  Jesus always left these words with His people after he had healed their sickness or protected them from harm, “Go and sin no more.”  Scary?  Huh?

Vintage Plantation how much of my tax dollars did it cost and what teacher had to be layed off to fund it.  I was full of anger that I called my children in college stating to them to find a better county to live.   Thank you Edgefield Daily for the the worst thing this county has had I beg to disagree with Monroe Kneece for that false statement.

Does this employee not have any work to do? If he don't then i feel sure they can find something for him to do or replace him. This same employee i see him all over Edgefield county and other counties for that fact. Don't SCDOT keep a mileage paper for each piece of equipment.  I bet citizens would like to see just how many miles he puts on that vehicle each month. Can the public view them? if he is all over county that's wasting taxpayers money and look at the wear and tear of that vehicle. There is no since in calling up there cause i seriously doubt the boss at edgefield office will do anything. Does he ever leave the office? I just think with the economy like it is you have employees doing stuff like this. A waste to taxpayers money!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just think somebody needs to look into this.

Editor's note: As I understand it would take just shy of 1,800 registered voters to sign the petition if it was circulated within 60 days of the August 4 meeting. As I was told, 50 people obtaining 50 signatures each would surpass that number (2,500) before the October meeting.

I find it so interesting to listen to this debate on healthcare. You have people, like some of the posters here, quoting sources, not the bill itself, but others' opinions to show what the bill will do. That seems like a very shaky argument to me. You have people at town hall meetings actually quoting from the bill and their respective representatives (Specter at yesterday's meeting) saying that what they are saying is a lie. It is a lie and it is in the bill? You have one of the newscasters (I use that term loosely) on MSNBC interviewing a Republican strategist who is reading, directly from the bill, some of the items in the bill. This newscaster gets very upset and  starts interrupting and saying "don't start with the scare tactics". What is actually stated in the bill are scare tactics??? It is the bill itself that is scary. The biggest problem is that our representatives do not know what is in this bill. Also there are various versions of things out there. It is vague on some things (intentionally). They are out there defending something they do not understand. The people at these town hall meetings seem to have read the bill as many quote directly from it. As far as the end of life counseling, to my knowledge if that is indeed happening now, it is not a requirement. I don't think Americans think that there are not things that need to be fixed in healthcare and insurance. Overhauling the entire system, taking away choices etc. are not what they want. Why should some of us give up something that works for us?   Sure Obama said he is giving choices. So far I don't see much reason to believe anything he says. I thought he said any legislation to be voted on would be available to Americans ahead to read and evaluate. Congress doesn't even have that opportunity. He also said his administration would be transparent (so send those "fishy' emails to them)  would not raise the debt, he didn't want to run the auto industry, he was not goin g to raise taxes on the middle class (just wait for that one) etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.......

Oh, one other thought--What better way to save on Medicare and insurance cost than to allow the seniors to just die off. The seniors in this country actually remember more about what this country should be and once was. Just another reason to "get them out of the way".

Picture this: Obama says to the auto industry "Cap the saleries" to the banking institutions "Cap the saleries" to the insurance companies "Y'all charge what you want to.  Insurance needs to cost more."

Only an idiot doesn't understand that the dems encourage  insurance to go sky high and they STOP FAIR COMPETITION between insurance companies to do so.  They send in/encourage their lawyers which result in sky high insurance and the very electorate that revels in the fact that these doctors can get sued are the ones who will suffer the most.

If it stopped then health care would be as such that I wouldn't mind my taxes AT THE DOCTORS VISIT to go to help somebody in need.

Whoever wrote the response in todays column about the teachers aide who was fired at MES evidently is not talking about the same person or has a personal vendetta against this person. The person in question has NEVER been called before the board, is NOT already on appeal for being fired. has NEVER had complaints lodged against her by parents, students or teachers, and has NEVER had her hand slapped. All one has to do is talk to other teachers at the school, to parents, students, or to Gene Huitt who recently retired as the principal there. Others need to stand up for this person who has been so wrongly treated.
Again, someone with authority throwing their weight around. Haven't there been enough complaints about Crenshaw and her tactics???

Why is it that people who REPORT bad thing get punished instead of the BAD people who do them?

If the county has bad things happening then they should be reported.  People say, "Well nobody will move here if bad things are reported."  I say, "Consider these reports a public service announcement."

Believe me we are doing them a favor telling them where they are about to move.

So, now that we are on the same track  LETS CLEAN HOUSE....

I was in that parking lot behind the building on Saturday and saw what you saw.  In addition, farther down the hill is the site where we have spent a few dollars already-ON NOTHING.  That site is a former dump site and is unfit to build on without big money being spent to prepare it ( stumps and other things ).  Also all the water you mentioned is funneled directly to it.

Why can't a proposal to build in the property we already own on Star road be put forth?  Five acres centrally located. A county complex sure would beat anything I see we have now.  A million dollars would go a long way to that

The "new" building will also have to have extensive upgrades to comply with ADA and Fire Codes. Can you see a "wheelchair guy" coming in that back entrance now??

Lead in old plumbing drain joints is of no concern/hazard to anyone.  Lead in water pipe joints can be.  Lead in old paint surely can be.

Didn't Kneece state that any sign of Asbestos would make the check unwritable ( in other words DEAL CANCELED )??  9X9 floor tile is 4% chrysotile, some mastic contains asbestos, pipe lagging IS asbestos.  Some ceiling tiles from that era is asbestos.  Roofing of that era contains asbestos as stated in your article.  Abatement would be VERY expensive.  If abated the county would "own" the material FOREVER no matter what landfill it went into and would have to pay if it ever was moved to another landfill.

I read the "Welcome to your new county building" story and was shocked at what I saw. Why didn't you have pictures of the inside? How can (the County Council) say this is worth over $300K when it is falling appart? Do you know what it costs to correct that type of a drainage problem? I do, I did it for 15 years. BIG BUCKS!!!!!  Where is that cost figured into the job? Nowhere that I see!!!!! What a joke!!

Do you have the time , to listen to me whine ! Well, I'm gonna anyway. Folks, we are a cash strapped school system in a cash strapped county with very little Industry! Duh ! What small amount of Industry, local businesses and just plain genorousity of the great people in our county is what makes it great.  I want to take this time to reflect on our local businesses within the county and some on the outskirts that allways seem to Give , Give , and Give when asked by local schools for help in funding such things as athletics , school, clubs, ect.  They are constantly hounded by ST , Wardlaw and I'm sure Fox Creek but always seem to figure out a way to come through ! PLEASE, patronize these businesses. When you see a sign at a ST, FC or Wardlaw Game or an ADD in the program, these guys paid good hard earned cash for the advertising. In other words they are putting dollars into our programs that are very much needed. I see a nasty trend starting to develop. Some years ago we ( ST Boosters ) asked Walmart and others to please not make ST T shirts, ect to sell because it was the ONLY way the school could raise money itself. To give them credit, most of them did what we asked and we very much appreciate it. Every Penny raised goes into the athletic department to be disbursed as the AD seems fit. I now see local, actually National chains Using ST to Make money in thier stores without giving a penny of it back to the school. If I'm wrong, I will apoligize, but I have checked and people at ST know nothing about the money if it exist. Three chains in particular, (names removed)  Whom I used to frequent  have ST Merchandise and give nothing to our school. They may contribute to the program or buy an Add  from time to time but in other words, they have no permission and are taking money away from yours and my children. Every T Shirt sold takes away money from ST merchandise sold and the school makes very small profits from these sales as it is. We are not large enough to get pricing breaks these Nat'l companies enjoy.
I'm not asking you to boycott these stores, but avoid the ST merchandise they sell. Ask them if any of the Money goes to the school and to whom at the school and we'll find out if that is Indeed what is happening. Please help support our Local schools and we will be able to continue to provide uniforms , equipment and other neccessary Items our Student atheletes need. When we have no more to give, Go to these folks and ask for Money and see where it gets you. (sorry Mr. Editor, a little long winded but this needed to be said ) . Side note : No meet the Rebels thursday Night. Come out Saturday Night and see our conference in full force in the Region III 2AA football Jamboree. Starts at 6:00. ST merchandise will be available ! See ya then. GO REBS !!!!!!

Re: "Only one issue at a time"  We have different views on our relationship with God. From all my reading in the Bible I see God as a loving God who wants to have a relationship with us. We, being sinners, cannot come into that relationship without a way to deal with our sin, because God does not accept sin. He gave Christ, His Son, as a means to reconcile us to Him. Christ took on the sin of the world. We have a choice to admit we are sinners, see our need for a relationship with God and accept Christ as our personal Savior. John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life" New American Standard. If one truly accepts Christ, they know they are a sinner and they do repent of their sins. Walking with God is a daily situation of confessing sin-read Romans and see how Paul struggled with this issue-but it is to keep our relationship with God open and growing, not to keep the relationship.with God.  II Corinthians 5:18 & 19  says "Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation". I read about two judgements in the end times. The one for Christians is not on sin-our names are recorded in the Book of Life-  but on the works that we do for God and the crowns He will reward us with.

I daily pray for those in authority. I pray for those that do not know Christ and the relationship with God that sustains me through difficult times. I know I am a sinner and I ask God to show me daily what I need to confess and deal with in my relationship with Him. I want to know Him better.  I do not teach hate but I do try to stand up for Godly principles and truths. I have no fear of going to hell or of dying. I know where I am going.  I hope you can understand a God of love in your life. I know He loves you and He wants you to know that.

It is past scary folks.  I don't know if our country can wait another 4 years to vote the bums out.  At this rate, there will not be an America to save.

Obama establishing committees to decide who gets healthcare and who is not worthy.   Requiring the elderly to be interviewed every 5 years to discuss what their wishes are regarding how they want their healthcare to be provided.  Plain speaking "is it ok if we don't treat you and just let you die?"

Monitors being hired to check the internet for any criticism of Obama's Health care plan or any thing else so the offender can be "set straight". Yes, you heard right.  Citizens who protest are being targeted.  Talk show hosts and media anchors so over zealous in overshadowing others to keep any message silent if it opposes the democrats (Obama, Pelosi) way.  These tactics are being openly displayed across our great land.  The more newspapers are closed the more the message is silenced.  Digital television disrupted dailey - control the message.  Are you ready for an underground communication system?

During the recent announcement of Walter Cronkite's passing you could see on the faces and hear in the voices the sadness as they realized his death represented the finality the deep loss of integrity, honesty and strong sense of professionalism that is missing in the media today.  A major part of America is dead and will remain so if we do not stand together, declare we are America. We take our freedoms seriously and will not give them up without a fight.  Our grandfathers, fathers and ourselves fought for these freedoms.

Politicians have become arrogant and have forgotten they were voted in to represent us not to decide for us.  Now it appears they have all forgotten their responsibilities starting with our county council.   E-mail them, call them, get in their faces.  Let this council and the other democrats know we will not continue to pay for their sorry decisions.  Fill the council building, go to the town hall meetings Ashcraft and Blackwell will be having.  Sign petitions, do whatever it takes to let these people know you have pushed the button one too many times.  Hot topics to protest:  rezoning residential area, buying a building and property we can't afford, recreation money inappropriately spent and not accounted for.

Sounds like jealousy.  Because someone had the means to better themselves, you're jealous.  Instead of whining and complaining, why don't you pull your boot straps up and do something for yourself instead of supporting those that think they are owed something?  And there you go again, when all else fails, start the name calling.  I think Jackson was born and raised in the northern states, but being a yankee is somewhat irrelevant.  And when he was serving his country, protecting your freedoms, I doubt he considered fighting any less if the north or south were attacked by our enemies.  You're so shallow.  The disdain they both show for the corrupt political hacks really is not north or south, black or white, the haves or have nots, but something we should all be looking at a little closer,  especially given the current political climate.  You're probably one of the ones that pays no taxes, grabs at whatever handout you can, and thinks everyone else owes you something.  You should be thankful for people like Kemp and Jackson, and all of those across the nation that are now standing up and having their voices heard.  And now you, your race baiters, and agitators don't like it

Editor's note: (1) The tax was defeated Monday night by the Johnston Town Council. (2) The cost of the Calliham proeprty is $315,000 and initial remodeling is estimated at $360,000 or $675,000 initial costs with $608,000 on hand. Total cost is estimated to be between $1.48 million and $1.7 million. (3) I assume you refer to the Crest building. I graduated STH in 1985.  At that time and all the time before that, that I attended ECSD, we had no race problem!  All students got along great.  ALL the RACE thing started with the adults on the school board and some of their race baiting friends that want to use the "race card".  Hell, even in the 90's (i think then) when the "SCHOOL BOARD" wanted to change the Rebel mascot from a southern gentlemen to a coon hound (now isn't that funny), the students BLACK and WHITE didn't want the change, it was the grown folks that are suppose to set examples.  So don't blame Kemp, he pays wasted school taxes just like the rest of us that WORK, therefore he has every right to voice his views and concerns.

In response to the "dedicated Christian" teacher that was "falsely" accused and "unjustly" fired ...

First of all, the "Teacher" is NOT a teacher but an Aide.  She has had her "hand slapped" more times than I care to count regarding her actions towards teachers, parents and our children.  It is about time that someone stood up to her and put her in her place... OUT OF THE SCHOOL SYSTEM.  She has caused MANY problems over the past years and has had MANY complaints.  I am one of the many that has complained to the Administrators as well as the ECSB.  Her attitude and influence is far from "positive" and as for her being a "Christian"... well that is not for me to judge but the old saying is "actions do speak louder than words."  I mean, really, how well does anyone actually KNOW this Aide that WAS in the classroom with our children?  I'm sure with a little effort of investigating, everyone could know her as well as I do.  Her non professional behavior speaks for itself, obviously INSIDE the classroom, and OUT of the classroom and even at the ECSB.  Yes, EVEN at the District Office.  She has always felt she was above taking responsibility for her actions, ON and OFF school property.  There have been enough "cover ups", second, third and forth chances for this Aide to straighten up and act like a responsible adult.  She was already on appeal for being fired so I guess there is no getting out of this one. She has hurt enough people with her actions, and now our children.  I say KUDOS to the Teacher that stood up for our children.  The Aide is getting everything she deserves and then some...KARMA.

I think you might need to read my post again. I’m not complaining about the chatter…it's the firefighters and friends that are on both sides EMS and fire. They are using the position to play around, not for the betterment of the county. Did you not see the news last night the one of the main problems was arrested for stealing power? (removed) I think this would be great and a good start for County Line to have someone full-time, (removed). I bet he is still on the department and oh I bet the chief didn't know about his arrest either (yeah right). Chief you did good your first five seconds in office, now it is time to get out of the way and let someone that wants to clean up the department get in. This kind of problem has been plaguing the fire department ever since the so called body shop chief took over. My best thing to say is go back to where the bad apples got let go and read the editors post you will see the truth. Or better yet just sit down with them or the editor and listen to the tapes of the corrupt stuff. Yes I agree some from Merriweather may not be able to drive either. But the post is the misuse of equipment for the sake of friends. Another incident is the (removed) guy used the service truck to drive EMS people clear to the other side of the county instead of using his little red want to be ambulance/fire truck like he does all the other time. This is an ongoing issue with the county and EMS director with running the ambulances that are from the time period when the late Senator Thurmond was born. Oh and one other thing for you, proof read or let a stranger read for you. I guess this is showing your education of the school of Dorn and Bright High school of stupid.

I found this very interesting and would hate to work in a building that had it.

SICK BUILDING HAZARDS
Although you may not be able to see, smell, or feel the molecules of dirty air infiltrating your lungs and body, sick buildings harbor dangerous pathogens that you are inhaling with every breath and clinging to the largest organ on your body - your skin. One of the most deadly pathogens is the highly toxic mold, Stachybotrys, that produces mycotoxins. Another is formaldehyde from new office furniture that is outgassing the fumes.
CROSS-CONTAMINATION of your home and car are inevitable. It's almost impossible to avoid that when exposed daily to mold spores. You'd have to wear a Haz-Mat suit before entering the sick building and then remove it and dispose of it after leaving it. Changing clothes and showering right away at home will help some.

SICK BUILDING SYNDROME SYMPTOMS
Burning and watering eyes and nose
 Burning in trachea
 Cancer
 Chronic fatigue
CNS (central nervous system) tremors or loss of balance
Debilitating fibromyalgia (muscle cramps and joint pain)
 Depression
 Dizziness
 Dry, itchy skin
 Exhaustion after normal activity
 Hair loss
 Headaches
 Heart Palpitations
Hoarseness, cough, sore throat  Inability to concentrate
 Irritability
 Itchy granulomous pimples
 Miscarriages
 Nausea
Neuropathy (loss of sensation in extremities)
 Nosebleeds
 Pregnancy Problems
 Sensitivity to odors
Serious edema (swelling of legs, trunk, ankles)
Shortness of breath upon mild exertion (e.g. walking)
 Tremors
Weight gain of approximately 30 lbs.
 Wellness When Away From Building
The end result is that mycotoxins (depending on which ones) can cause major organ damage and affect every major organ in your body, from the brain on down - including brain, thyroid, heart, pancreas, liver, kidneys.

I wonder how they did this and the employee was on vacation. Also, why did the person call the parents and told a lie about what happened, and she was not there when the kids was fighting. This is just a tip of an iceberg that is going to go down slowly, and the other two people will be fired also. Hmmmmmm.  Looks as though Kemp and Jackson were a bit ahead of their time, but spot on.  Seems they have been at the forefront of raising the questions about corruption in government and the school district.  And when the heat was on and their backs were against the wall, the race card was played against them.  They were also accused of being rebel rousers, trouble makers, etc.  Seems as though this is the tactic that has been used and taught to the thug politicians at all levels.  When the citizens of this country exercise their 1st Amendment right, those are the accusations that are leveled, at all levels, and now from our own government in Washington.  And have you really paid attention to the composition of the people attending the town hall meetings-mostly elderly citizens-and they're being called Nazi's, Brown Shirts, plants by the Insurance companies, etc.  Seems like the Brown Shirts are in Washington and Edgefield.  After all, didn't they play the race card and call out fine, upstanding citizens, ;-), ;-) like Nathaniel Jackson to bolster their credibility?  And Bibbs, Chief Agitator in Charge of the ECSB-playing the race card so as to create a distraction to his own waste, fraud, and abuse.  It appears it may be reasonable to look at Bibbs' record with his employment with DSS.  Hey, if he is so inclined to manipulate the system for his own personal gain and luxury through the ECSB, why would he be any different with his other guvment position?  Bibbs towards Kemp and Jackson is similar to Dorn towards the Editor.  Bibbs and Dorn get frothy and ride the edge of being brassy at public meetings, but they sure don't have the balls to followup do they?  If they were real men, they would take their stripes off.  Bibbs being military should know what that means.  But they are just agitators.

Re "some of the Wandering Minds posts are not wandering at all, they are just pure evil"  Wow, you are the first one to prove that point. You have an odd view of judgement day in my opinion. We need to deal with our sin issues while we are here on earth and accepting Christ is our only way to be forgiven. We don't account for our sins after we die.
Only one issue at a time:  If you do not repent and change your life, you will die in your sins.   Your sins will follow you to your grave.  To avoid this happening there are certain steps you must follow.  Accepting Christ is the first step.  The second is to repent, confess, and turn away from sin.  Many people accept Christ, but confession is a long way off.  Your confession is important for those who come behind.  Believe me the Bible says you will have to give an account on Judgment Day.  Why Judgment Day?  Because if your teaching or living has caused others to fall you will be held responsible for those you misled.  So your teachings did not end with your death.  Sounds like your sin will be following you.  And just imagine on Judgment Day God will call you from hell to pass judgment.  Now it would be nice if you only had to give account for your sins, but now you are standing before Him with all the young ones coming after you who practiced the hatred that you planted in them.  To me that says, “The effect of your sin does not die with your death.”  I will admit that some people can do so much evil that God sends them – straight to hell.  They are the ones He call back from Hell to be judged.  So be very careful how you live and teach. “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out-- those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned." John 5:29 NIV Bible
PS.  What happened to “Pray for those in authority”.   I lifted up many prayers for President Bush and all the other superintendents in Edgefield County.  I think the Bible says that they wouldn’t except for God’s hand.

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA
Dear President Obama:
You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me. You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you. You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support.

You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American.  You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll.

You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don't understand it at its core.
You scare me because you lack humility and 'class', always blaming others.
You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail.

You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the 'blame America ' crowd and deliver this message abroad. You scare me because you want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector.

You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one. You scare me because you prefer 'wind mills' to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves. You scare me because you want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world.

You scare me because you have begun to use 'extortion' tactics against certain banks and corporations.
You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals.  You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider
opposing points of view from intelligent people.

You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient. You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do. You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O'Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.

You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing.

Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.

Re:  "This is a response to the inquiry about the incident at MES leading to the unjust firing of an employee. This employee happens to be a dedicated Christian woman who has been involved in the care and education of children for most of her adult life..."

You're beginning to see the fruits borne by the bullies in ECSB and ECSD.  You're also beginning to see the significant damage they are doing, not only to our school system, but good honest working citizens, our students, and ultimately our country.  This community is going to pay a severe and irreparable price.  When a bully confronts your child, do you teach them to waiver, or stand up to the bully? ( http://www.edgefielddaily.com/letter070909.html )  The more and more we see,the more we see that Kemp and Jackson were on to something, yet because of some whining citizens and school board members, they were asked to back off.  Someone even suggested they were going to start a race war because members of the Board and district were throwing down the race card, even bringing in aggitators to help them bolster their position. Kemp and Jackson smote that ploy with one editorial that cut to the core ( http://www.edgefielddaily.com/letter052209.html ).

The community needs to get together and vote these bums out, fire Crenshaw as has been called for ( http://www.firecrenshaw.com/ ), once again by Kemp and Jackson, and take back our schools!  Look at what is going on in Washington.  Better yet, look at what is going on around the country-Congressman are being confronted because people who are sick and tired of the corruption and having unwanted programs, pork whims, and the results of malfeasance ( http://www.edgefielddaily.com/editorial072209.html ) rammed down their throats.  Hell, look what just happened with the County Council (Callihams). Someone suggested recalling ECSB members.  We should seriously consider recalling Council members too. This sleepy little town needs to ignite the spark that could cause the wildfire across this nation to get rid of these political hacks.  ONE, just ONE successful recall in both camps, council and school board will speak volumes.  And if you don't think some of the other bums wouldn't straighten out, you'd be mistaken. Allow the bullies to walk all over you, and they will, every time.

This is to the person complaining about CountyLines driving and praising and complaining about the use of EMS using Fire Department for first responding.  First of all there are people on MerriWether that drive like crazy and drive bad I myself have seen it and it is a wonder they have not killed anyone or hurt anyone with their driving, and and I can Tell you The EMS Director is not in control of Fire radio it is the county dispatch I agree I think the firefighters love to hear themselves talk on it but the only people who can control radio chatter is the fire officers, and and the person over dispatch not the EMS director.  The people in in EMS do a good job controlling their radio chatter so if you have an issue with the excessive radio talk on the fire radio first if you are not on a fire department or ems turn your scanner down if you are talk with your fellow fire fighter of officers or talk with the sheriff to see what can be done.
Second when it comes to first responders I can tell you we have some very good first responders in this county just because you might think it is waste of tax payers money when they are called out on a mental health eval you might not know the whole picture that is the problem with people who like to listen in scanner land or with people who think negative of county services.  so next time think be before you speak you never know as you would say that waste of tax payers money might be what either helps you or one of your family members.

In an article on this site someone stated that the (Calliham) property was sold at auction.  Who bought the property and most important, who owns the property now? Please answer.
By the way money from the rec.dept.  Where is it?
By the way, the problem at the high school, where is DHEC, they should have acted by now?

Editor's note: The Calliham property was bought on the courthouse steps for $50,000 by Fletcher Lawrence, J.P. Calliham's cousin, who held the lien.

The money from the concession stand at Bettis Park is still being investigated and more reports are in the works.

The School District is in the process of cleaning up the dump. I cannot release what I know at this time but I can tell you DHEC is very active in the matter.

Google docs is great!  I use it when I need to jot notes, loosely share something with a friend or put together a haphazard spreadsheet.  But when it comes to full functionality it doesn't even compare to the MS Office Suite.  You can't directly cut and paste from MS Excel into the spreadsheet portion of Docs or vice versa, you will lose formatting.

I was selected for the MS Office 2010 Technical Preview... formatting documents in Google docs is nothing like the templates/functionality that Word offers.  I would never send my boss a "final" document, spreadsheet or presentation created with Google docs if I wanted to keep my job, without formatting it and finalizing it in the MS Office Suite.

My main issue is that I wanted to use MS Office and I was informed by someone at the Library that this suite was not available there.  I went to Aiken to make sure I could get my resume together and submitted in a professional manor.

"Teachers also have to put away their cell phones. Mr. Smith said teachers can lose their job for multiple infractions"

but they won't fire fat cat administrators and Brookhaven cronies for poor performance.  I am not quite certain what to do with a school labeled "at risk", "poor" "below average".  I believe the standards are too high and this is making all the schools look bad so we can have 6 figure superintendents tell us not to worry and the numbers don't reflect our actual progress.  Perhaps Jeff Wallace will give us another story on vacations.  The real estate kingpins and Woodside folks won't let the truth be printed.

To produce a resume on a computer w/o microsoft word, simply use Google docs.

Decent spreadsheets too.  These docs are good to use for situations in which people in various locations need to read or edit the document.

It works like this.  I create a document and can set up any email account in the world to have access to the document.  I can allow the other person to simply read it or I can allow them to edit it.

My company has found the spreadsheets to be highly useful for multiple people in different locations.

I would like to say thanks to Merriweather Fire Dept. for again pulling County Line out of the dirty. I can’t believe that Merriweather has not seen the light yet and stepped up to the plate and done something about the problem. I guess they are thinking if they don't say or do anything it will just go away but that’s not going to happen until someone gets hurt. The rate they are going it will be someone from Merriweather, God forbid.

Also, the uneducated driving skills of the County Line Fireman came to the light a while back because the Chief and another person passed me coming from Trenton running with a little light and no siren. Then they turned onto Bettis Academy to get the brush truck. I don't see how the truck didn't flip because they slung most of the water out onto the road as they turned on two wheels. I think this has gone on for long enough. I think the County Council should step in and do something because the community is scared of the fire department being closed down or taken over by others and the taxes and insurance going up. Maybe the Council doesn't care about the district or the tax money that is being mis-used by the idiots that are running the Department. Or they are scared to step up to the plate. Remember you can be replaced. I think it is something to do with this end of the county being dirty.  Look at the Bettis Academy ball field umm where’s that money at, or going to Mr. Bright and Council.

Also the County EMS Director needs to step up to the plate and do something about the fireman that stays on the fire and EMS radios telling the EMS crews what and when to do things and to call County Line out for a lot of calls that don't need to be called for. One was a Mental Health call off of Stevens Road when all that the Sheriff's Office wanted was to have them checked out. No life threatening problem…just checking them out. This fireman got on the radio and told the EMS crew to call for them to come out and help. There was no reason and a waste of tax money and was no transport so why were they needed.

As far as your ramblings about our governor and about Sara Palin your points are a little hard to understand. I think a lot of people (many Republicans, but maybe you don't read the news)  have come out to criticize our governor's actions but you know, it isn't the job of any of us to judge him. We don't have that authority, only God does and it is between the governor and God-none of our business. Same goes for Clinton. God is his judge too. You may forget that when the Clinton deal was going on, a lot of Democrats criticized him. Again, no one has the authority to judge him.  The fact that Sara Palin's daughter did not opt for an abortion goes to show the real stand they take as a family. How could somebody be pro life and opt for an abortion? What door does that open? I just didn't get your points. It is "evil" to misrepresent the truth in my opinion.

I am just an old country boy, however, let me try and understand the current happenings about the Calliham Building.  First, is it possible that the three members of the council who voted yes know something we do not know in terms of how the benefits of this new Council action will unfold?  Second, is the renovation of this property going to a company whose primary owners will receive a huge cash windfall?  Finally, exactly what do the three council members who voted yes give as their reason(s) for their actions?

Maybe the person(s) behind the “deal” could answer the questions for the council members to make sure we hear their side.  Also, if the Council Chairman made the statement that the County is “purchasing the land” then what is the price per acre Edgefield County taxpayers are paying for this property, taking away any buildings consideration.

Well its pretty fair to say after last night council meeting  who’s on the people side in this County!!!!    I just want to say thanks to Rodney Ashcraft and Genia Blackwell for backing up what the real people of the county wants.  I have lived In the merriweather area for about 6 years next door to Hagler system and for the past year its been a nightmare for my family!!!  All the loud noises at 2am with forklifts and equipment running all night keeping my kids up.  Then you have there bright lights shining on people houses and please don’t mention the foul language you hear from there employees outside. Of course I called and made reports with the sheriff office and received no help. They stated they are a business and can do what they wanted.  So I guess our ordinances doesn’t mean anything!!!

Well I can promise you if they pass the rezoning my family will be moving to Aiken county and give them our tax money.  Its hard to believe Mr. Dorn had a change of heart all of a sudden.  He must have gotten  a promise of that new bathroom he wants.  The people of Edgefield needs to take the county back from theses 3 idiots we have on the council and put officials in there that care about the people.

Mr. Kneece you are like poison ivy.  Everytime you take action the county suffers a severe reaction.  Remember when you moved your daughter-in-law from the main level of the courthouse to the basement?  Was that so her special customers could enter less conspicuously to make their purchases?  Bet that upped your ante!  What about when you got your son the contract to handle the recycling for the county?  That also ended up costing the county.  How much did you make on that one?  (removed)  I bet the price for Old Norman's vote is a couple of real nice automatic flushers.  What about not so bright Bright?  What's he getting?  Oh I know, he gets to keep on getting the profits from the county's concession stand, right?
web posted August 6, 2009
When is it time for a council member to step down?  When they blatantly disrespect other representatives, citizens of the county and anyone in ear shot.  The three in the middle let it be known they are the only ones who understands, they constantly tell those citizens in the audience they have no right to ask questions, all you have the right to do is pay for what they decide.  If we ran our homes the way this council runs the county business we would be broke in less than a week.  I do not understand how you have $600,000 insurance to pay for the buildling and even minimal review of this building and the purchase price shows it is going to be at least $1 million.  There is a difference yet the council says it isn't going to cost us anything.  No wonder we are in a mess with math skills like that.  Let's see old building we have to pay $315,000 to purchase, then unknown repairs (the county didn't get in writing an estimate before voting to buy), then the building is taken off the tax roll and we receive no income (rent) to help pay for this building.  Versus a new building designed exactly as we need it to be designed, no problem with asbestos, etc. on property already owned by the taxpayers.  Hummmm what am I missing.  Let's see, we could have been on the courthouse steps and bought the building (the successful bidder paid $50,000).  Oh that is right, Mr. Bright stated we don't understand how an auction works so it would have been more because they would have driven the price up.  Guess what, that would have hurt them because they would have had to pay a higher price or we could have saved ourselves some money and paid less than the $315,000 price tag.

Not one rationale the 3 gave made any sense.  It was so obvious someone was pulling the strings and the 3 had no justification for their decision.  It was so contrived.  Wait months and after voting the issue dead, dead and permanently dead, bring it up again for 3rd reading and boom bang it is a done deal.  Recall time folks.   Similar tactic, with the re-zoning.  Dead issue, right?  Think again was anyone told this was coming up for vote, of course not.  Back door and under the cover politics.  Just like Obama, push it through quickly so no one has time to stop the train.

Editor's note: The three that pushed this through are all Democrats. Make what you will of that.

It is so unfair to her constituents. I know she is trying to represent their interests and she just got ignored. The two sane council members were once again the only two good votes on this council. Maybe they cannot be bought off. I tend to be awfully suspicious of these kinds of shananigans. I hope some law was broken and that there will be consequences. Wouldn't it be nice if ,for once, there would be consequences for these good ole boys who seem to control this county? What do they have over people? Why are they able to do these things? Okay, let’s see what we have here:  A woman running for vice president daughter becomes pregnant (not married) and we hold her up as a role model against abortion.  Please, don’t get upset about unmarried mothers. I truly believe it will multiply because we opened the door.  Our Governor gets caught with his pants down and we spend our time lifting up everyone else sins.  But President Clinton is hassled and brought up for impeachment for getting a blow job from a woman who kept the dress she was wearing (don’t understand why) for over three months.   Oh yeah, I forgot, Clinton didn’t leave out the country on government business and hooked up with Monica if he had we would have all of the forgiveness in world just like we have for our Governor.  It seems that our Governor sin is in God’s and his wife hands.  It makes you think.  Do you really believe that Republicans morals are so strong that when they sin, St. Peter is wiping it off their records so fast that it no longer considered evil?  But when the Democrats sin, do you really think St. Peter is sending them straight to hell.  I don’t think God would like this picture.  You can justify one set of people and send the others straight to hell.  That’s not godly.  Judgment Day is going to be something wonderful to behold.  All of this evil and hate will become accountable by those who spew it out.   I will caution you to be very careful.   Remember you are not judge the minute you die.  And there is a reason why.  We will have to give account of our sins and our sins continue long after our bodies have departed from this place.  I can truthfully say that some of Wandering Minds posts are not wandering at all, they are just pure evil.

Editor's post: I don't care what anyone has to say, it is obvious, once again, that the county council does not run the business of this county. In spite of over a half dozen votes to refuse to purchase the Calliham Building, a meeting two weeks ago lands it not only on the agenda but as a final deal. I will give readers 50 guesses as to who met with whom and the first 49 don't count. We have a problem. The "good ole boy" system was alive and well Tuesday night. I have a feeling that this matter will end up in court very soon. I hope so, I'd love to see county council members try to lie under oath.

In addition, when it comes time to remodel the 9,000 feet of the Calliham Building not covered under the first phase of the project (which Ken Durham gave the made up working numbers for), Councilman Rodney Ashcraft quoted Ken Durham as saying it would only cost $40 a square foot. Great, let's hold him to that when the bids go out. I wonder if he's willing to lose $450,000 to make his words truthful. Somehow I doubt that will ever happen. Just call it a hunch. But the Godfather expects, as does the controlling majority of the county council, the voters will have a short memory of who got them into this mess.

This is a response to the inquiry about the incident at MES leading to the unjust firing of an employee. This employee happens to be a dedicated Christian woman who has been involved in the care and education of children for most of her adult life. She was falsely accused of harming a child in her care leading from a situation in which 2 children were fighting and had to be separated. A hateful, vindictive "woman" who is in a "supervisory" position and who was not even present when the "incident" occurred took it upon herself to make a wrongful judgment, initiated a call to the parents and before you knew it the act of PREVENTING injury between 2 fighting boys became an incident of the employee CAUSING injury, thus leading to the wrongful termination of this person. She has been loved and respected by students and parents with NEVER a complaint about her interactions with them. By now the rumors are rampant and I'm sure it is common knowledge who the persons are that are involved. Anyone who has had a child whose life was touched by this wonderful person who has lost her job, her reputation, her good name and has been assured by the charges that she will not be able to work with children again should immediately call the school board and voice their outrage and their support of this person. She does not deserve the treatment she is getting. The person who is responsible surely is not a Christian and if she is able to hold her head high and sleep at night she is truly an evil person with no conscience. She will get her just rewards when she has to meet her maker. If anyone should be fired it should be her for causing such grief to one who certainly does not deserve it.

How do you expect someone to compose a resume and apply for a job if they don't have a computer available with word processing software (ie Microsoft Word)?  I know Edgefield is run on a tight budget and all, but I also know that the Microsoft Office license is not that expensive.  Heck, there are probably government incentives to provide the necessary tools of success to members of the Edgefield community.  Does anyone care?  Does anyone find this acceptable?  I sure don't.

The "Mustang Ranch" poster fabricated a clever and amusing story, albeit factually incorrect.  Wikipedia reports, in part, "Under owner Joe Conforte, it became Nevada's first licensed brothel in 1971, eventually leading to the legalization of brothel prostitution in 10 of 17 counties in the state. The Mustang Ranch was forfeited to the federal government in 1999 following Conforte's convictions for tax fraud, racketeering and other crimes. It was auctioned off and reopened five miles to the east under the same name but different ownership."

Therefore there was no bankruptcy in Federal hands.

I recieved a note from the post office, that stated, that I needed to put a mail box on the street.  They can no longer bring mail to the porch.  I do understand that, but what I don't understand, is why this is not everyone.  If you ride through Edgefield, you will see very few mailboxes on the street.  Most are on the front of the houses.  This has been a perfectly acceptable mail system for a lot of years.  Why does it have to change now?  And why only for some of the homes?  Do I not know the right people?  Our new post mistress, made this decision, shortly after taking the job.  In my opinion, she should have stayed, where she came from, or left well enough alone.  I put the box on the street, but I had better see them going up all over town......

I am just amazed that the Calliham property is up for discussion again. How double minded is Chairman Kneece if he is allowing this? It really does go to show that there is one person really running this county. Why bother with a  county council if things are going to keep coming up until "the king" gets his way? This good old boy, bully type action is just an evidence of a lack of integrity in the leadership of our county council.  Due to his financial issues, I guess this would be one way for "the king" to continue to leverage himself.  I guess he will just keep selfishly taking care of himself and we, the taxpayers, get to pay for it. As if we are not already paying for a lot of his corruptness.

the cash for clunkers deal, what are they going to do with all them trade in"s?do the trades belong to the car dealer or the gov"t?

Editor's note: As I understand the money from the crushed cars goes back to the government. Of course they will not take that off the bill that will be passed on to you in the form of tax increases.

If the purchase of the Calliham building gets voted in by the Council - that would be a perfect example of back door politics.  Will the council play God and resurrect a "permanently dead" issue?  Even if the Calliham building were donated to the county, it would still cost a considerable amount of money to renovate.  I cannot believe anyone thinks having to purchase property and renovate an old building is preferable to building new facilities which meet the needs and offers expansion possibilities on county property.  If a new building is built and county offices are relocated how much money will that save the taxpayers?  Aren't we paying rent on the buildings where the offices are now located?  If  Bettis and Ken put in as much effort in attracting new businesses to bring in additional revenue rather than in spending taxpayer's dollars to increase the governments visibility on the square, we would all benefit.

Issue number two - I wonder if anyone has bothered to notify residents living in the Five Notch /Murrah Road area that the rezoning  for two properties is again being brought before Council? If not this could be yet another back door political move.  I would like to have the council explain what could possibly have changed that would warrant  either of these two issues being brought up for vote again.  Fat chance they will do that.  It is not our right to know, we are only the taxpayers who pay for their decisions.  Same old council tactics or has there really been a change in the Council attitude?  Attend the council meeting tonight at 6:00 p.m. and see your tax dollars at work.

Editor's note: I can answer the question on residents around the failed rezoning bid that is back up after defeat. In a word, no. The county has not notified them in any way.

I got a great insight from a note on the internet and need to share it. Some years ago the IRS seized the "Mustang Ranch", a legal house of prostitution in Nevada. Actually (yes, this is true), the federal government of the great United States owned and operated a whorehouse. The interesting thing here is that in about three years they had run it into the ground and it went bankrupt- managed so badly they couldn't even find a buyer!
So here's the question: with the government about to nationalize and operate several large and extremely complex international banks, who believes that guys who can't turn a profit selling booze and hookers can do better in banking????????????They could"nt even run it by hand.So now they want to get into the auto and healthcare buisness?god help us all.

RE:  "Okay, now we the parents in Edgefield County need some change.  Please tell me when I need to file, and what I need to do to run for the Edgefield County School Board?"

Well, if you are truly interested, let us know which seat you would qualify for, Bibbs, Cooks, Livingston, Jackson, Jackson, or Hoffman.  Check with the Elections office and get the requirements.  We really don't have to wait until the election cycle-there is a RECALL option, and one of the qualifying requirements to meet RECALL is described in the statute as "incompetence".  And with this last fiasco, all the aforementioned fit in that category-some more than others.  It'll take work, but if you're serious, so are we.  And what better message to send-even their jobs aren't as secure as their arrogance lead them to believe they are.

To the best of my knowledge, Texas is the only "Sovereign" state in the country at this time. The Editor might be able to give a better description of Sovereign than I can but to be sovereign is to be self dependent and not needing to lean on the Fed's for anything. State owned Oil wells, as well as tourism, ect. helps states like Texas to be Independent. I'm also told that God forbidden, dust covered, thief filled, barren cow dung covered territory just north of the RED river called ...... Oklahoma , is going to be soveriegn soon as well and many southern states are soon to follow ( Mississippi, south Carolina, Georgia, ect. )  .Hook Em !!!!!!!

Editor's note: If history serves me well, Texas was the only state that joined the union under a treaty since Texas was a sovereign nation. It would take only a majority vote of the Texas State Legislature to void that treaty. Some say after the War Between the States that was made null, but I don't think I'd "mess with Texas" in the matter.

My problem with MCG using the excuse of police not placing suspects under arrest so as not to be responsible for the bill, is completely a lack of responsibility on the part of the College. Unless I am mistaken, MCG, like most colleges, have a fully accredited and licensed police department, with the right of arrest. The problem is with that police department, they knew there was a wanted man with an arrest warrant, being treated in their jurisdiction and yet they let him leave.

I heard that the Calliham property is back on the Council agenda for Tuesday night's meeting.  When will this never ending story end?  If Bettis is behind it, the Council should ask him when is he going to pay the overdue real estate taxes from Mount Vintage and the golf course.  How can this issue keep coming back to life?

Well the government incentive for Cash for Clunkers clunked. Now we know that politicians don't live in the real world. Who in the world would put out a program like that in an economic windfall and not expect the American public to run after a bargain? Cha-ching, get real.

Editor's note: Just think what $780 Billion in "stimulus" money would have done if it were put in the hands of those it was taken from - the taxpayers, not government hacks. Recession? I don't think so.

First of all, I hope you are feeling better from you injury. Be sure to take the time you need to heal well.

As far as climate control goes, it is such a trumped up idea. We need to take care of our environment and be responsible for this world God has given us to live in.  However, we have been fed a bunch of crazy ideas that we are in control of the climate and it is another scare tactic to get us to pay for some of these absurd programs. If the cap and trade bill passes we are in a mess. Look at the man who is such a climate guru--Al Gore. Give me a break. He can't even honor some of the things he cries about in his own home.

The birth certificate issue goes to the core of who Obama is. We do have very big issues to solve in this country and do we want someone who is not a citizen, and may have bad motives toward this country, making those decisions? If he is not a citizen, do we want a liar making those big decisions? If he is a citizen, do we want someone who is too arrogant to show his records to run this country?  It is not a minor issue. It shows that we no longer have the  Constitutional absolutes in place to check these things out and stand as a country to enforce them. This is a huge problem. We need to do things like Glenn Beck suggests and have Constitutional watchdogs checking on a lot of what is going on.  All of Obama's "czars" are unconstitutional--just one example.

The lack of civics education in the country is amazing. If people do not even know how their government works or the basics of their own Constitution how will they make informed decisions? We have seen the result of that recently--too bad for all of us.

Editor's note: Thank you for your concern (and others who wrote in). I pulled a hamstring Friday and it is slowly healing but very painful. On the voters, most people cannot tell you who their elected officials are even after voting.

To  In rsponse to the question about the FC sign-  the cost was around $40000-  a little less than half of the adminsitrators annual pay.  Actually, this is very good deal since it down on a road that only will get traffic to the school so it do not infringe on other folks visual rights.   As for the new teachers, it dont matter- most of them will leave after the first year.  Heard that FC has hired some folks to help coach football- since the pretend coach cant.  Seems like they would just fire him and hire a real coach. Oh, that would require a functuonal board and if you go to a board meeting, you will see what I mean-  what a joke.

The illegal dumping that has taken place at JET is a punishable offence. Question is - will it be so in this case? It is clearly obvious from the photo of the site that these people were woefully irresponsible. At a minimum the site will have to be cleaned up and fines paid. An engineering group will likely have to draw up a closure/ cleanup plan. The illegally dumped materials will have to be removed and disposed of at a permitted facility. The site will have to be returned to a normal or pre-existing state present before dumping took place. Collectively these activities will cost thousands and thousands of dollars. Sounds excessive and complicated but that is the reality of legal landfill operations and management.

There should be storm water runoff implications associated with the illegal activities as well. Could storm water (potentially contaminated) possibly leave the illegal site and travel to adjacent properties? If this is the case another set of regulations has been violated.

The question will be will SCDHEC pursue this matter justly as they would if it were another private organization or individual. Another important question will be if the individuals will be held individually accountable for their ridiculous actions or will SCDHEC pass it off on the Edgefield School District in turn making the citizens of Edgefield County foot the bill for the fines and cleanup associated with the illegal dumping. We citizens need to put our foot down here!

Surely no one possibly believes that these people did not realize they were doing something irresponsible and illegal.

Editor please don’t let these guys sweep this under the rug.

So anyone have a guess as to how much that extravagant new Fox Creek High School marquee sign cost? How about the glass walls for the commons area? Like the kids didn't break enough glass at the old school? Now they want a whole wall of glass for them to break? Could be exciting! Hopefully no one will get hurt when it happens.

Mr. Editor do you know how many new teachers FCHS will have this year? I heard they let the Resource teacher go also. Too bad about that as she was a great teacher and the kids really liked her. Oh wait, that is probably why she was let go...if the kids actually like you then the parents & other teachers get jealous. I for one am curious to see how many new teachers there will be.

I am also curious to know if anyone has heard about new staff at MES? Besides Marchant coming in a principal have they hired anyone else?

Editor's note: The assistant principal job at MES is up in the air at this time since parents and teachers brought out the reports of an arrest for indecent exposure and drug possession on Morris. What happens at Fox Creek is always a closely guarded secret. The ECBOE seems to be in the dark and likes it that way.

The problem of people being released from MCG is generally not the fault of MCG.  Many times the reason is that the suspects are not under arrest.  If they were, then the police agency who has them in custody becomes responsible for their bill.  Does the town of EF really want to be responsible for paying for the low-life child molesters hospital bill?  He was not under arrest during his stay in the hospital.

I don't believe in the conspiracy theory that nut job right wingers use claiming President Obama is not a citizen. I voted for our President, he is an American. I don't unerstand why he is hiding all of his personal information that would put all these wild rumors to bed. I'm at the point where I agree that it is time that President Obama make his birth certificate and school records public.  We have real issues to deal with in healthcare and climate control to be bombaraded with this birther's crap!

Editor's note: I agree the documents need to be made public, but I can't pass up the statement that the US needs to be worried about "climate control". Unless you are adjusting a thermostat inside your home ... people cannot control the "climate".
