I''m sorry, but this horrible grammatical disaster of a post that was apparently written by a member of the Motown 4 (or one of their 8th grade drop out relatives) sums up where the Edgefield School district is headed if the "free at last" movement does not end. I was raised not to be prejudiced, and honestly have never seen color until the NAACP took over the Edgefield County schools. The sad reality is that all this is going to do is result in lower test scores and the decline in the education of all of our students. If the current trend continues, and the PREJUDICED, BIASED BLACK school board continues to hire sub-standard applicants, all of our children will soon be learning to write and speak like this. Look at this mess!

"Mr.Covar get over it things are not going back the way it use to be, this is a new day and you brought out all the reports of how blacks voted well key word "vote" blacks now have a say in Edgefield South  Carolina and it's a shame people like you want things done the other way around and you know what I'm speaking of I'll pray for your heart to be changed."

It rambles, makes no sense at all, and is obviously a desperate attempt to prove Mr. Covar wrong. Please, whoever wrote this, try again! And this time, please add punctuation and tone down the panic and desperation of wanting to dispute Mr. Covar's facts. You know this can't be done. He and Mr. Livingston are the only two on the school board with any sort of moral code. He brought forth the facts. Like Mr. Blackwell said, if you have factual evidence to dispute Mr. Covar's statements, then let us hear them. If not, shut up and urge your fellow NAACP members to do the right thing - for ALL STUDENTS!

I am so tired of getting junk mail from Bill Hixon!!  We must receive 2 to 3 pieces of mail a day.  Will
not vote for him.  And if I was, the junk mail  would turn me off.    Shane Massey will get our votes.

This is directly aimed at the spineless individual, who supposedly wrote the critical analysis of Mr. Scott's performance.  First, if you feel so offended regarding his performance, walk into his office and make suggestions about ways to improve the school.  He has proven to be a leader through his hard work with difficult, petty situations that teachers are incapable of handling.  Although you are able to hide behind your words, your hatred is evident.  Only cowards throw rocks and hide their hands.  He is down to earth and capable of talking to anyone on any level, including you.

Mr. Covar i am truly disapointed in your comments about the racial divide on our schoolboard, to put this out in the publicas you did was very unprofessional. (but what can you expect from a person who comes to schoolboard meetings dressed like he's going to a back yard barbeque) For many years we had to accept what ever the board dished and Mr George Smith was the only one who stood up for our children, just because the status quo/ good ol boy system has been challenged it has become a race problem. As much as the board stays in executive session, thats where you should have expressed your concerns. All of the board members need to refocus on what is best for our children. Many students
don't even know the schoolboard members unless they are in trouble, which tells me you all do not make present felt in the county schools. The students and teachers should be the ones you should all  want to hear from., after all they are the ones your decisions most affect.

Mr. Covar asked the question, “When are we going to learn?  And I am curious at what is it that he wants us to learn.  I appreciate his short history on the Board of Education; but I really think he didn’t go back far enough.

I am not on the Board and really am not aspiring to be; but I really believe there can be no conflict without two parties participating.  The Black Board members are accused of not voting for a White candidate and the White Board members are accused of not voting for a Black candidate.   We know we have a White Assistant Superintendent, White Principal at Parker, White Assistant Principal at Johnston Elementary, and a White Special Education Director.  Guess they were colorblind when those votes were taken.   Fact shows that the Black Board Members did vote for White candidates but we do not know if one White Board Member voted for a Black candidate.

The Board is voting on racial lines at times, and the Boards before voted on racial lines.  Dr. Roberson was the first Black Assistant Superintendent in Edgefield County.  The Majority White Board members could not find a Black candidate for the position.  But yet they would never cast a vote because of race (smile).

Let’s stop playing games and admit that we all have fallen short.   I don’t know why they voted the way they did, but I do know we have a Black Superintendent and a White Assistant Superintendent.  I think that is very diverse.

It Diversity Month so let’s learn to work together and stop bashing each other.  The deed is done.  Suck it up!  Our students need us working together for them to succeed.

To the person COMPLAINING about "Prayer Around the Pole" you have no right to say that is should not be publically advertised.  That is advertised so that children at the school that do not tell their parents about things going on, so they will know if they would like to join the Prayer At the Pole. When you question why they are advertising it, then that is a problem. You had stated something from the Constitution, doesn't it say in the Constitution that  we have  the freedom of speech.  Yes, yes I think it does.  And like the editor said of Wandering Minds, IT IS NOT ILLEGAL IF IT IS STUDENT BASED.  At Fox Creek High School, they have a bible study every Thursday and a STUDENT teaches it. NOT A TEACHER.  And  another thing, they do prayer at the pole at every school across America on the same day, do you have a problem with th at too?  So before you go and COMPLAIN about the advertising and say things about the Constitution you better do your research or go back to school or something.  But on the brighter side I hope you have a wonderful and hopefully an educational day.

I think it is time that people stop slinging mud and looking at things from personal level and look at the facts.  There are laws that dictate conduct of public officials.  It is the Code of Ethics It is Title 8-13-700.  In this law it describes Codes of Conduct for all public officials.  If that conduct is violated a report can be made to the State Ethics Commission.  This law clearly states that any public official can not vote on deliberate on any action involving themselves, their family or someone they have an association with.  That is one issue.
Another is, in the Edgefield County Board Policy, the only personnel, that the Board hires is the Superintendent. All other hires are made by the Superintendent.  Also on matters of employment or personnel issues the Board is suppose to act on the advice of the Superintendent.
The Board is also, according to their own policy, act on behalf of ALL their constituents.  In this heated issue, they should be contacting the people in their district to see how the people want them to vote.  The only reason I say this should be done now, is to give support for their decisions.  If each member is truely voting for all or the majority of people in their district, then they should vote the way they do. If they aren't then they need to change their vote.  Because it also states in the Board Policy that a Board Member will vote for the majority and not their own interest.
If any one wants to see the policies just go on the web site for Edgefield County School District and it's there.  It will answer anyones questions about what the Board is suppose to do and if they are not what should happen.
If you want to know the law go to http://www.scstatehouse.net and look for SC Code of Laws on the left and pull up Chapter 13 Title 8.

I’m fairly new to the community of Edgefield County and Thank “GOD” I don’t have any kids in this school system.  I am retired military, educated and gainfully employed...  I’ve been all over the world and have never seen anything like this before.  From what I’ve heard throughout the community, the individuals in question, mainly “Sallie Cook, all have deep roots within the church of “Mt Canaan” located in Trenton.   They can’t even get it right in their own Church (Hint: the firing of their Pastor Rev Brightharp) let alone a complete school district.  If you took a good look at that tree, you will find that the apples don’t fall very far from it.  I too agree with the opinions of Mr Brad Covar.  I’m not a raciest by any means but something is seriously wrong with this picture.  Instead of resorting to name calling as the individual did in the previous comments, which make me believes that this individual is just as bad and uneducated as the people he is talking about, he should resort to getting the community together on this issues and solving it.  But that’s not reality is it?  Guess it’s got to be done the most mean and hostile way.  By the way, the NAACP is a very good or ganization but sometimes used for the wrong reason.  The four individuals that you mention to be uneducated are totally wrong.  They are highly educated, but as we all well know, when some people become highly educated they become what is known as an “Educated Fool”, and that is what we have here.  I truly hope that this issue will be solving very soon.  The people of this community are going to pay for it several ways: Through higher taxes to cover the unnecessary law suits and most of all, the children for this inadequate education system.   By the way, if you must know I am Black.  Thank you.

All I read about is how the naacp is called upon on our school board issues. Well maybe us whites need to call on our own group to help us on our issues.  My child is only in elementary school and I am nervous as heck for him to go any further in this district. I have heard of something along the lines that if your school district is not up to par that they have to let your child go to the parents school of choice and if it is private the district has to pay it. Well i would like more info on this because i would really love to send my kid to wardlaw so he is not subjected to gansta rap, drugs, ridiculous clothing choices and rascist board members or learning that the more children you produce the more money the government gives you.

I would like to commend Brad Covar for his letter regarding the workings of our school board. His comments regarding the board refusal to uphold the superintendent's termination of a black employee in April of 2003 by placing this problem employee in another school made me think about another employee that they wanted to get out of the school system. Instead of terminating this employee they placed her in charge of a multi-million dollar after-school program. Needless to say, the program did not last past the 3 years allotted by the government. This employee now serves on our school board.

I am extremely upset at the actions of the black school board members,  and applaud Brad Covar's letter shining light on their actions. I kept  thinking, why wouldn't the board ask Dr. Keesley to continue as interm
superintendent but was told in "hearsay"  that she was not interested.  Thanks, Brad for the insight as to really why. I stated earlier this year that I hated to see Dr. Roberson leave and that  I had a feeling that he felt he eventually would fall into one of Sallie  and James' pits. According to Brad Covar he already stumbled near one with  the assistant principal mess.

I am (mad) about the reader's comments concerning the NAACP. I am a  resident of Edgefield County but am not a member of the NAACP. I am  BLACK, single, with no children in school. I vote and pay a hell of
a lot of taxes for all school children. To the racist " buffoon " you  should keep your mouth shut about who pays what or what people own,  because you have no way of knowing.  see if you can justify who pays and who are baby daddies with facts and I'll prove you wrong concerning this black man.

Way to go Brad!!!! It's about time someone had the courage to stand up. I attended my first School Board Meeting in August and was amazed at the lack of organization as well as the amount of time that was wasted discussing nothing. They couldn't even follow the agenda. I have two children that attend Edgefield County Schools. Our children are finally being recognized as being above the rest of the state in some areas and nationally. We have 7th graders that have scored advanced in 2 or more tested areas on PACT and have been given the opportunity to take the SAT test. Why does this racially motivated board want to take these POSSIBILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES away from future children by hiring a less than qualified superintendent? They are not only holding back your children and mine, they are holding back their own race. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO REALIZE THAT THEY ARE THE REASON FOR RACIAL DIVISIONS? They are the ones that keep racism alive. They are the ones that cannot move forward and choose to teach their children that they will always be oppressed. But they are the reason for the oppression, not the white race.
Brad Covar did the right thing and I support him completely. It's a shame that we now have a law suit against the School District and that Brad Covar must take a lot of heat for doing what he did by writing this letter, but something good comes out of everything! Vote these 4 idiots out of office!!!!!!!

The person who is criticizing JET - do they know there is a new principle there?  Louis Scott is awsome!  If it
wasn't for him my daughter would still be going to  Wardlaw.  He has turned that school around and is very
fair.  He is a wonderful leader and example for our children - no matter what color they are!  I dont know who
the book salesman is that they are talking about - both Mr. Scott & Mr. Butler have long been employed by
Edgefield County Schools.  JET is a wonderful school and we are very lucky to have it as our middle school.

Has anyone thought about running against the school board members that need to be voted out?  I hope they won't be the only candidates running in November or we'll be stuck with them.

To run, you have to submit an application to the Edgefield Board of Registration 90 days before the election.  Is that right?

How often are the school board meetings held?

Editor's note: The ECBOE meets the second and forth Tuesday of each month.

To the poster who laughed at Brad Covar's input....what an ignorant response from you. It's obvious that you believe Bubba Bibbs, Sister Sallie and the two Jack-ass-twins are great school board members. I understand your position referencing the tables have turned in Edgefield county and blacks rule the school board. You need to understand my position...myself and others plan to make changes to the existing situation. What is unfortunate is...the four school board morons have turned the time-table back to the 1860's. Nobody in their right mind wants that mindset, but it is here and must be dealt with accordingly. The situation has boiled over and now decent voters need to make a stand. It is obvious our school board has gone over the edge, especially when they overrule disciplinary actions against people who should be fired; use their influence to force the hiring of less qualified employees; hire a superintendent no other district wants; they take
their marching orders (I'm a former infantryman) from the NAACP; allow the NAACP president to have prayer
before meetings; allow a convicted felon and his partner to solicit bids for contracts.......and there is more to make you and me sick and madddddd. You caring citizens get in contact with me and we will form a committee to watch these fools and possibly stop them. If you don't have the stomach to take
action....stay at home and put your head in the sand.

Wouldn't it be great if we could hold the "Mighty Four" financially accountable for the legal fees in the court case. You can fuss and stomp your feet and not change anything until the next election. They are sitting back and enjoying it. I bet they feel real important and powerful right now. But hit them in the pocket book.....I bet that will wipe the smile off their faces. And Dr. Crenshaw. She has no other option but to take the job in Edgefield. Who else would hire her?
web posted September 29, 2007

re: I am mad at how they are doing homecoming this year at Fox Creek.   No student voting to see who is on the court.     It was great the way it was last year. Why change it?

They change things because they can.  Your principal is an idiot and he and his assistant idiots do what they want.  Nothing will change until you students can convince your parents that there should NOT be idiots running the school.  As it has been said a million times before we as parents need to get the Bishops, Williams, and Murph  out of the school.

Why allow the teachers to vote for students? Most of the teachers there are new and do not even really know the students yet.  Priceless acts as usual.  Keep up the *great* work FCHS, sooner or later every student there will truly hate the school and your drop out rate will raise sky high and you will look just great in the public eye.  I just wish I could understand what the parents and board are thinking when they do the hiring and firing up there.

Students are their own best advocates and they do not even realize this!  If you all get together and go against what you dislike so much things have a better chance to change! There are some adults out there that are willing to help, do not be afraid to ask them.

I read Brad Covar's expose on the ECSB and their doings. I have known Brad over 30 years and have the
upmost respect for him. I have found him to be an honest and straightforth person. I do believe that
some people are making decisions based on the color of a person's skin and not their qualifications. I do not
agree with the 4 black members of the school board (I'm black) but they are not doing anything different
than it has always been. People have the tendency to gravitate towards people that look like them and think
like them. Is it right? Of course not but all people do it both black and white. I don't know the answers,
nor do I know how we as citizens are going to get pass it. I do know that now reading some of the comments,
people are starting to judge other black people by the workings of this school board majority. I am a
hardworking black woman, my husband and I pay taxes, and he is my babies' daddy, and I am not riding anyone else's back. We need to get pass this skin color and name calling and look at the important issue - our kids - our future.

We all owe him a debt for having the courage to be the one to speak out and say, We're not gonna take this, laying down, any longer! Thanks Brad, from all todays' children and the future grandchildren. Hopefully, some others will step forward and show the courage, values and morals that you have. Listen to him folks! Your own children and grandchildren agree with him! Let's work for unity and respect in all races. Set an example for our future leaders to follow. Brad Covar Has!!!

Go Brad, go!  About time someone called out that farce of a school board!  I have been to several school board meetings and have been appalled at the arrogance displayed towards procedure and towards the people in attendance!  All I could do was sit there, shake my head and think to myself, "Someone needs to put a tent over this circus"!  But circuses are fun, and there is nothing fun about witnessing the purely biased actions of a board sworn to represent everyone, especially ALL the children of Edgefield County, and they clearly and blatantly care nothing about doing that!  Thanks, Mr. Covar, for throwing down the gauntlet, now let's see who dares to pick it up!

Thank you for having such a wonderful forum for the citizens of Edgefield County!
After reading Brad Covar's letter, I saw the name Nathaniel Jackson mentioned. Isn't he a convicted felon? Regardless, I don't believe he lives in this county, either. Either way, who died and left him in charge? Now I realize we are in a world of hurt if a majority of our duly elected school board is listening to and following recommendations of a convicted felon. Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep - wake up people, the moral alarm clock is ringing.

Editor's note: Mr. Jackson served 8 years in the federal prison system for cocaine trafficking. He ran for a position on the school board in 2006.

If you have not read Brad Covar's article concerning his tenure and dealings with the school board...do it! Mr. Covar's honesty about the inner-workings of the school board are both eye opener and verifier of the how the four uneducated buffoons manage our school district. What amazes me is these uneducated buffoons represent people who mostly don't pay property taxes, school tax, live on the taxpayers back, have lots of babies and no daddies......yet these same people are running/ruining our school system. What is wrong with this picture? Another obvious problem to the picture concerns the presence of NAACP president Griffin at a school board meeting. Since when does a radical group such as the NAACP have input to a group of elected officials? OHHHHH......these four uneducated buffoons have a NAACP agenda. As a voter and taxpayer, I don't want the NAACP radicals at our school board meetings. This is another example of why these four racists need to be exposed and watched. I also wonder how many of the four buffoons have real jobs, own property, have jail time and can read. If you want to call my input racist, go for it, but look at the facts.

Bravo Brad Covar!

It is time that we learn in public what has gone on behind closed doors for the ECSB. What a disgrace? I only hope that the Board members can be held liable financially when the the board loses the Federal lawsuit. They are going to lose this discrimination lawsuit for sure. They hired a person with less experience, less credibility, and no experience in budgetary matters, etc.; all because of his race. It is the textbook defintion of discrimination. He was a book distributor and that's about it. He cannot even get the buses off in time in the afternoon. How could he run a school effectively? The disciplien at JET is attrocious to say the least, and it is a direct reflection of his lack of leadership and his incompetence.

This lawsuit could cost the Edgefield County taxpayers millions, potentially. Sister Sally and Brother Bibbs are going to ruin the finances of ECSD, and make it impossible to recruit teachers or pay for basic services.

I will defend the board's decision not to hire the assistant principal at STHS to replace Clancy when he retired. That was a good decision, even though it was along racial lines. STHS would have suffered immensely under her incompetence, lack of leadership skills and her ineffectiveness in discipline matters. That school would have been a circus if she had been hired as the principal. STHS has many problems, as does JET, with the difference being that STHS has a leader who will do the right thing even if it does not follow the agenda of the ECSB. JET has no leadership, and will continue to sink into a quagmire of incompetence. Thank you Mr. Covar for your candor. It is what we need in this time of mourning while we watch the end approach for a school district.

The libertarian in me views the Drug War as a miserable gov't failure that needs to be rethought and the money being spent on it directed to more meaningful way in which to spend it or not spent at all.

How could this "war" be measured as successful?  I'd love to see some examples of success.  What goals of the Drug War have been met?

Has cocaine and herion prices/availabilty gone done or up?   Purity....cocaine and herion have never been as pure or as low priced as they are now.

People that use drugs are punishing themselves enough just by being so stupid to use drugs!

Any good conservative believes a gov't program should be effective or it's funding should be cut off.  The Drug War is the poster child for an ineffective gov't program.  I can't think of a gov't program that has been around this long and never met any of its intended goals and retains funding to continue to not any goals.

I am not pro-drug, just anti gov't waste.  Actually, I feel sorry for drug users.  And I feel sorry for the taxpayers paying for the boon-doggle called "The War on Drugs".

I received a call yesterday from a Jerry (and I don't remember what his last name was. He was from a (united banking ) organization. He told me that there was a problem with my bank account. He told me to get my checkbook. I asked him what his telephone number was. He told me he would give it to me when he had told me about my bank account. He also asked why i wanted his number. I told him I wanted to call my bank about the call. He immediately hung up without any further word.

Editor's note: You did the right thing, except for one step. Notifying the Sheriff's Office. Your bank does not need your account information or numbers, they already have them. When you get a call such as this do your best to gather as much information as possible and notify police at once. Never provide any information to the caller. This information will be turned over to the Sheriff's Office for follow up.

This comment is in response to the person who wrote about Mrs. Holmes. I live in the Merriwether Community, and my children attend Merriwether. I really got to know Mrs. Holmes last year, and I could not disagree more. Mrs. Holmes did a lot of good things for MMS, and it is time she was recognized for it. For years, the school has needed some changes. Mrs. Holmes brought fresh ideas, leadership, and enthusiasm to MMS. Yes, she brought change, and as a result, Merriwether is a better school. Contrary to what this person said, MANY people hated to see her go. However, there was (and obviously still is) a certain group of parents (primarily in the PTO) whose agenda from day one was to criticize and undermine Mrs. Holmes’s authority. They never attempted to work WITH Mrs. Holmes---it was always AGAINST her.  For years, this same  group of parents thought they ran the school. They made decisions that weren’t theirs to make. Finally, someone came in who didn’t allow this, and she was automatically shunned by them. Unfortunately, Mrs. Holmes was never given a fair chance at MMS. Ironically, this same group complained about the principal prior to Mrs. Holmes (Mrs. Culbertson). Mr. Turner and Mr. Marchant better watch their backs…they'll be next.  There is no doubt where this is coming from. I hope they realize that their identity is known. What a cowardly way to live your life. Why not go face to face with Mrs. Holmes and tell her how you feel?  That makes too much sense. Furthermore, why on earth would you even continue to make derogatory comments about Mrs. Holmes when she is no longer at MMS? Do you just enjoy hurting others?

It would seem that with the recent decisions that have been made by our school board regarding our district’s future, we should all thank God that we have intelligent, hard-working, driven, professional people like Mrs. Holmes working in our district. To Mrs. Holmes, I am sorry that some people in the Merriwether community continue to show their ignorance by writing slanderous comments about you. Please don’t judge our entire community by the actions of these individuals.

It is never a positive sign when three teachers take the time to write negative comments about their former
superintendent. It is evident "Loveable" Dr. Crenshaw has a track record for causing problems. We have a
good school system and it does not need radical fixing. We have four morons on a school board whose
combined intelligence does not equal a cauliflower plant. And, we have these four idiots to thank for
choosing a problem-matic superintendent to dictate her NAACP agenda on how our children's education should be improved. Edgefield taxpayers and voters....we can form a committee which best represent OUR (our children, teachers, & parents) interests. Let's do something about these four uneducated NAACP inspired
buffoons who impersonate school board members and make life miserable for them, by forming a committee to watch their every move. If you are interested in making your voice count and fighting these four (removed)  individuals, contact me via the editor and we will have a meeting in a public forum.

Clarendon County School District Three former teacher writes warning to Edgefield County parents, teachers, and administrators:

Dear Editor:
I am a lifelong resident of Clarendon County School District Three. Also, I attended Clarendon 3 schools for ten years in addition to teaching in this district for nearly nine years, as a certified teacher with a master's degree. Needless to say, my first and last school year of working with Crenshaw and suffering the wrath of her "educational/political agenda" resulted in me leaving the field of teaching completely after her first year as the superintendent and seeking employment in another field.

Within a few months of Crenshaw's arrival, she managed to turn the entire district upside-down to say the least. I truly feel sorry for the employees, residents, and students of Edgefield County. Your fears are justified and the speculation displayed on this message board did occur in Clarendon 3 from the moment she arrived. I wish that a committee in Edgefield County would have done their homework prior to this vote and prevented this situation like Jasper County did when they visited Clarendon 3 prior to their new hire. It is truly sad that someone like Crenshaw will be allowed to bring this kind of turmoil to another SC public school district AGAIN.

It may be of interest to the people of Edgefield County to gather some statistics concerning the turnover of Crenshaw's employee's in Clarendon 3 in addition to her practice of desiring employees that had no roots within the district and often replaced former employees with individuals that were not highly qualified and lived out of district/county. She also chose to never permanently reside in Clarendon 3 or own property in the district who's taxes paid her nearly $100,000 salary.

My question is for the citizens, tax-payers and education boards of South Carolina. How many chances does someone with this type of reputation and a poor-performance record get (and earn a whopping $125,000 of the tax-payers money)? Good luck, Edgefield County with this self-proclaimed "friendly" superintendent. I hope your experience will be better than Clarendon 3's.

This is meant for the person who left two kittens on our front porch overnight.  You must be a good person since you put them in a carrier with a towel to sleep on and with a food bowl.  I am assuming you didn't want them to be hit by a car on very busy Columbia Rd. as have many other uncared for cats and dogs.  But I wonder why you expect others to take over your responsibilities.  Just because we are known to be animal lovers and have taken in cats and kittens since we moved here, it is not right or fair that others expect us to be their animal shelter. We went to the expense of vetting all of them and having them altered or spayed and kept them as housecats along with the cats we originally had. We have more than our share of stray cats. If you can't or choose not to care for your own pets, then do the right thing.  Now you have put us in the position of having to take these sweet, innocent calico kittens to a shelter where they will probably be put down if not adopted after a week.  This is something we hate to do but there is no other option.  They would be better off being put down then left to fend for themselves outside.

I see Mrs. Holmes is wreaking her havoc at now another school. After turning Merriwether Middle School upside down last year, she has moved on to her latest victim. The previous post is correct she is rude and does not seem to have the best interest of the children. She came to MMS and quickly had a head woman in charge syndrome moments kick in. That was apparent as early as the very first open house last year at MMS, when parents were so upset with the chaos they were looking for her in the halls to discuss things. She finally retreated back to the safeness of her office. Parent meetings had to be called because of the amount of parent complaints, we were first told to please contact her first with any problems, we were wondering what happened to the open door policy of most school district. Not to mention the fact that she knew there were a host of unhappy parents and how surprised were we when we found out most of the notes home about the meeting were never sent out, most of us found out about the meeting by word of mouth. I say all this to let the parents of Parker know we feel your pain, however we are glad we aren't the ones suffering through it this year.

Debra Barley is a fine, upstanding women, contributor to the community and Mother..YES, I know her personally. She has been a one women band too, I praise her, so LAY OFF of her. She takes care of the grounds out there, and the fields need to be game-ready for the players, so yes, she can dictate who uses it and it is NOT at all UNREASONBLE for her to ask for an appointment! People life is not ALL about YOU..try researching your information before you post and make a fool out of your self. Your board should be called Wayward minds, instead of Wandering.. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

In fact, I encourage people to take advantage of all parts of Bettis Park anytime they want to, ignore the signs, and if they are harassed by Bartley, Bright, or anyone else, call me at 803-279-5041 or 803-634-0964 and I will be more than happy to come to the park and record the situation for a report. I would like to know why anyone would accept a position where she is clearly not wanted and where there is bound to be some very difficult times ahead. Could it be that she has no other choice because considering her track record she would find it hard to get a position anywhere else. And to WE... I don't see anyone holding you back except yourself by insisting that you are being held back because of color. That is an excuse for your own shortcomings. You should be insisting that your children get the best no matter what color the person is that can give it to them. I am white but if a black educator would do the best for my grandchildren , then I would say bring them on. No one is holding you back but you. You can't have a better future if you keep blaming the past for everything.

I couldn't help but add my two-cents into this controversy over Bettis Park. How can they have the gall to ask for volunteers for a concession stand they have been so childish over? And the remark about not having any of the surrounding communities support, They've made it obvious in the past that they don't want anyone down there but locals who live in the Bettis Acadamy area. And as far as the rude children go, if they are taught right at home they will behave in public, as a general rule. Mine tried me a few times but were well-behaved most of the time and I got the compliments from other parents to let me know! It's all in how you teach your child to respect others while they are at home with you.

Anybody that has any critcism for Rec. Sports OR Bettis Park, I invite you to Attend the Next (or any) Recreation Board meetings and GET INVOLVED. Please don't critisize unless you have either a solution or can help out in some way.  I started out with the Original group that started our Football in the county and Most of us have moved on with our children to Middle & High schools but a couple are still here.I have spent time in every section of the county except Johnston and every body is trying hard with what we have to work with ! The rec. dept. needs people who can help until it can get a little more  established. Our Director works LONG hours with little or NO help ! After having to continually battle with the High School and scheduling conflicts with our local middle schools, we decided to use Bettis Park as our Home field for Football & for the Most part, it has been a Great experience (Tailgating on the hill ? What other park offers that? ) . I don't disagree with many about concessions there, But let's hear Ideas and questions so we may Improve. I do however take exception to any criticism of Ms. Barley. She works as hard as anybody, anywhere to make things better for ALL of our children. I see her taking way more kids to & From practices in Baseball and Football than she should have to carry ! If she is Guilty of anything, possibly it would be taking questionable advise from the wrong people, but the decision to make the park use limited is not hers alone. We have differed on opinion many times, But she is an Angel in my eyes and many throughout the county !

Note: You may contact the Rec. dept @ 637-2621 for the next scheduled Rec. board Meeting.

Patient care at Edgefield County Hospital is a really bad overpriced joke.  Patients are
allowed to lay around and get sicker with nothing being done.  Only after complaining can you get transferred out and get treated.  During the night, the nurses are all outside taking
"cigarette breaks " that go on for thirty to forty-five minutes.  Guess who has to wait?

Also, nurses disappear from the floor and cannot be found for thirty minutes to an hour at a time.  Guess who has to wait?

If you want to live, do not bother with this hospital, go elsewhere.  They've gone for weeks with cardiac crash carts not being maintained.  Be careful, you've been warned.

The reason FCHS Football team scored in last Friday's game is because, in the last minute fifteen seconds,
the coach put two JV's in.  One JV passed the ball to the otherand bingo we have a (TOUCHDOWN).  This has been the problemall along.  Use those JV's, they play as a team and are not out for individual glory.  When the coaches learn to use the whole team, they will  have a better chance at a winning season.

I am writing in reference to the Bettis Academy postings. I am a Bettis Academy parent and am very satisfied with the organization, leadership, and overall outlook of the park. I am very bothered by the fact that people refuse to read and comprehend the signs at the park. The signs state that you are to contact Debra Barley whenever you wish to SCHEDULE an event at the park. The signs and the rule were put in place by Edgefield County and were not devised by Mr. Bright or Mrs. Barley. Contacting Mrs. Barley prior to having an event will prevent, for example, a church group having a concert at the same time that a motorcycle club is having a get-together. All fields are open to the public at any time except for the football field. This is for the safety of the children who play scheduled games on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. If the football field was left open, anyone could create holes in the field that could potentially hurt the recreation players. Any sensible human being wouldn't want a child hurt, so the safest avenue is to keep the field off limits to all. As for the concession stand, you were more than welcome to lend a hand. Gate and registration funds are county responsiblity. Concession money will be used for park construction.

Editor's note: I have to ask why the county does not show a line item on any budget or funding source coming from the Recreation Department. I would also ask why the concession funds would be used for "park construction" when those are funded by the outlandish funds earmarked for "Recreation" and Bettis Park construction. Sounds like double dipping to me... but I am just some dumb nobody who cannot add after graduating from Strom Thurmond. Maybe that is why Dr. Crenshaw was hired as the Superintendent to make sure our rising leaders might be dumber so they won't be able to figure out that the county is lying to its citizens. Mr. Bibbs would love that as he always upgrades to "King Suites" at the unnecessary conferences he attends. People that can add might accuse him and the school board of ethical violations.

Editor's post: Well, the primary is over and the "blood bath", as one person called the election process in an email, continues. It is down to Shane Massey (who took 38%) against Bill Hixon (who took 30%) on October 2. I can assure you one candidate will come out with a ton of false claims and false ads that are paid for by lobbyists. The other will stay the course and seek the support of the individual voter. One will be a bought and paid for candidate of "special interests" and the other will be one that represents the wishes of actual voters. Pay attention to the small print stating who is paying for the ads and you will know who is who.

I would also like to comment on Bettis Academy Park. Does anyone know where all of the money that is raised there goes. On Saturday there were probably a few hundred people there plus the connession stand had a line there the whole time. I bet they had to take in a few hundred dollars profit. So if they are charging all the kids to play and the parents and family to get in where are all my tax dollars going. And they have to nerve to tell us citizens we cant use the fields when ever we want. If there is a good explanation I won't complain again but I would love to know since I do pay taxes.

Editor's note: There is no good reason to keep taxpayers out of a public park. You paid for it, use it when you want to use it. No other public park requires a "reservation".

Bettis seems to have to fend for theirselves since they don't get much positive support from the surrounding communities. We moved our child to Bettis area sports several yoars ago. I've enjoyed working with the people and parents at Bettis. As for the rude children, that's anywhere you go when they are not properly supervised.

Question: What is an "African poster?"  Would that be one of your posters believing that an ANONYMOUS posting -in regards to name and SKIN COLOR- was posted by a black person, an "African-American?"  To assume such would be like believing all black people are for Ms. Crenshaw and all white people were for Mr. Mathis. What a showing of Ignorance that would be!  One should never assume that simply because someone defends a particular person, race, or term that they belong to such.  Maybe they are just an AMERICAN defending the rights of others to be and be called whatever they want. Isn't that what being an American is all about?

Why are there signs posted on the fences at Bettis Academy telling me a tax paying citizen I can not play on the fields at Bettis Academy unless I get permission from Debra Barley?  My taxes pay for that complex and if I want to take my family out there on a weekend, who are you to tell me I can’t?  You can use any other recreations dept fields in the CSRA as long as you aren’t there at unreasonable hours and don’t destroy it.  In my opinion those powers to be that think Bettis Academy is their personal property have fallen and bump there heads.  They need to worry more about the concession stand that you spend at least 30 minutes in line and then you have undisciplined children trying to jump in line and then act like you have offended them when you tell them they need to get to the back of the line.  Then they get an attitude and go tell their mommies when someone says something to them.  Willie/Debra you need to spend your time worrying about things that matter, like how to better the park and not if someone is playing soccer on “YOUR” fields without permission.

Not one of them had the "Intestinal fortitude" to vote with their brain or guts instead of their Skin Color, or they would have done what's best for ALL students !!!!!!!!!!!  The NAACP, ACLU, etc. School board of four does not have the "Intestinal fortitude" to go against a personal Liberal Agenda such as that of the NAACP! They have shown what the NAACP really stands for (Non caucasians-Against-All-Caucasian-People ). Why did Bibbs want to rush the $125,000.00 contract for Crenshaw through in 72 hours, only to be corrected that they had to give her 14 days to accept?  I guess our "NAACP School Board of Four" likes having their taxes raised for a $125,000.00 contract while their children will get Nothing in exchange. The only beneficiaries are Ms. Crenshaw, the school district she left, and the Racist School Board of Four. It appears they want Crenshaw in quickly on the coat tails of Dr. Keesley (and David Mathis) to give Crenshaw undue credit for the work of the past Superintendent & staff !!!!!!!  Crenshaw has just won the Lottery at the expense of All Edgefield Co. Students. It is a shame Crenshaw can't see this and have the "Intestinal Fortitude" to do what's right. Is there a group out there that represents ALL students & not just ones of a particular race or color? Certainly not the "NAACP". I attended the jamboree on Saturday at Bettis Academy Park.  I was flabbergasted at the signs posted stating that I (a taxpayer) had to make an “appointment” to play on the ball fields.  I think it is ridiculous that if I wanted to take my family out one afternoon to play a family game of football and/or baseball; I should be able to do that without making an “appointment”.  As for the “mobile” concession stand, it is probably a blessing that it is not useable at other venues.  I stood in line for approx. 45 minutes just to get something to drink.  It was absolutely ridiculous!!  It’s not like we are waiting for a gourmet meal.   Did the workers have to make several runs to Idaho to pick potatoes for the French fries and go to the slaughterhouse to get more meat for the hot dogs?  I hope Willie Bright is proud of his establishment that I bought.  Also, the kids (all races) were RUDE.  The football players would just break in line stating that their coach said they could.  One kid stated that he had already stood in line three time, so I told him he could stand in line for the fourth time.  He had a very smart a$$ mouth.  Other kids were walking up the middle of the two formed lines and just holding their money up to get what they wanted.  Where is the discipline?  If I had done that, by parents would have spanked me until I could not sit down and made me apologize to those people whom I disrespected.

Glad they found this guy.  The trails are crudely signed, but will be signed to the max in the next month or so.  The order for the new signs has been placed and we are just waiting for them to come in the mail.  The plan is to put out numbered sign posts that hopefully a lost or injured person can identify.  The Sheriff's Office and EMS will have a copy of the map with the numbers on the map.  Of course the signs will point one back to the parking lot as well.

I can see how people become disoriented out there.  But there is also a level of self responsibility one must understand when venturing into the back country.  Understanding the parking lot is the highest point on the entire trail system is a good place to start.  Regardless, I did call the Sheriff's Office today and volunteered to help them w/ future issues like this.  I ride those trails alot, helped build them and know every inch of them.  The trails don't go anywhere near Stevens Creek, but do get close enough to see the Savannah River in a few places.....which is somewhat near FS 662 where the person was found.

I hope there isn't a next time.  But if there is, I hope someone will at least call me so I can help find the person, or at least narrow the search area based on the report from the lost person.  I know several families that have moved to the Clarks Hill/Merriweather area because of these trails and I will ask them to volunteer as well.

By the way, Forks will close to all riders and hikers for the first two week of rifle season for deer.  These dates are Oct 11-24, except Sundays.  No Sunday hunting means the trails are open those days.  All persons should wear hunter orange when in the woods during hunting season.

"  According to the paper, this is a joint venture between the counties and the city, with Edgefield County paying for the bulk of the project."  Why?????

Does that mean the  grant given to Edgefield County for sewer improvement is going to be used to benefit North Augusta?  Will part of that money  also be used to provide sewerage for the approved townhomes at North Augusta Country Club?  Who is responsible for selling out Edgefield County?   How much influence do you think Bill Hixon will have if elected to the Senate in furthering the goals of North Augusta.  Remember he is in real estate and insurance.  Don't we have enough developers in control of this county.  My vote will not be in support of this agenda.  Your tax dollars at work.

And the fact this school board hired someone with a questionable performance record should bother all residents in this county. Unfortunately, the Bibbs, Cooks and Jackson Sisters only see color, not qualifications. They have a NAACP agenda and will ram it down our throats as long as we sit back and let them. Trust me, after what Mr. Hixon did I would not vote for him to pick up dog poop on the town square, but I will also defend anyone from lies.

Mr. Hixon may live in Merriwether, but his ties are all to the City of North Augusta, who has stated they will be "the largest municipality in Edgefield County". Mr. Hixon would like nothing better. He volunteers with the NAFD not the Merriwether VFD. He attended NAHS not STH (and has said he is better educated because of it). He has stated "Merriwether will put me in the run-off" even though he has done little or nothing to associate himself with Merriwether or Edgefield County.

I was almost shocked at your comment of never seeing an "African-American" and wanting someone to show you one. However, you have become a part of Edgefield now so, some things do rub off over time. You not seeing an African-American means what exactly? There are some who consider themselves Irish-American, Japanese-American, etc. Have you not seen any of those either? Or are you just in search of the African-Americans? There are people who consider themselves black, African-America or just America. I'm sure they don't care whether anyone agrees/accepts which one they chose to be called or have seen them or not. You've posted numerous comments of people calling the 4 "non-white" board members "Africans" did you ask to see them?  Haven't seen an African-America, let me guess you've only seen a colored, a negro and a black.  It doesn't matter what you or anyone else agree with them being called, who you do or dont' see.  Call them what they want to be called, and keep up if and when it does change.

Editor's note: I do not see color, religion, or sexual preferences. You are either an American or you are from another country. I guess if you were me you would consider yourself a Dutch-German-American Indian- American? How absurd. Perhaps someone has more clarifying info on the following:  It's my understanding that our Property Taxes are no longer the primary funding source for the school system.  Monies from the state sales tax have replaced that this year.  If this is correct, how does the state control the amount of money school districts can offer executive/supervisory positions (such as the superintendent)...is there a standard "pay scale" based upon the size of the school?
Furthermore, I am very interested what types of controls the state has in place to "influence" school board trustees on how state monies are spent on the local schools.
For the editor:  Though this is too late for the primary election, if you're inclined to draft new questions for the State Senate candidates for the General election in November, I'd suggest the following question, "What is your postion on the role the state board of education and the state legislature should play on overseeing state dollars spent on local schools?  Furthermore, in instance when school boards are not following policies or are unresponsive to the community, should the state suspend funding to those school districts?"  (This is akin to the Feds cutting off Highway funds when states do not adhere to federal highway requirements."

In response to the comment made by the parent upset at how things are run at WE Parker. First let me clarify, I am not a teacher at Parker, but I am a teacher and a parent.

I don't know the answer to dropping your child off, but you should be very thankful that your principal does not allow parents to walk their children to their classroom. First of all, in a very sad world full of crazies, it is unfortunately necessary to have tight security measures in place for our students/children. While you may not be one of the "crazies," I'm sure your principal can not allow some parents to walk their children to class or she would have to allow 499 more parents to begin the practice. It could very well be possible that 1 of those parents might not be fit to be around your child. Second of all, a month of school has passed, so your child should be more adjusted at school and should be able to notify someone if he/she is feeling uncomfortable. I know some wonderful members of the faculty/staff at Parker and they would never let your child suffer. I can understand you walking your child to class maybe the first day/week of school, but after that you are only hindering your child from developing a certain degree of independence and responsibility.

Although I respect the fact that you must love and care for your child enough to want to walk them to class, I would like to remind you to consider the reasons behind your administration's decisions. If you have never been an administrator and experienced the enormous responsibilities that come with the job, I certainly wouldn't judge them to harshly. You have no idea what a great undertaking it is to be responsible for that many children at one time. I would be very grateful that my administration cared enough about my child that they take the measures to provide as secure a school environment as possible.

I wasn't talking about the Edgefield library specifically, although I have noticed people talking out loud in there, too.   I've noticed this in each library that I've visited in our library system.

The library has always been a quiet place where a person can concentrate....whether they're reading, researching something, writing a paper or studying for a test.  I hope it will continue to be.  Why would it not?  People can't concentrate with other people talking loudly around them.  It's inconsiderate.

I like all the libraries in the ABBE system, and I think the people that work there are really nice.  The library is one of the good things that my tax money is spent on.

I didn't want to ruffle any feathers.  Just to see what other patrons thought about it.

I  would like to introduce myself. I am a single working mother of a second grader at W.E. Parker Elementary in Edgefield County. I am his only advocate and have had to work very hard getting him the extra help he needed at school. I am a very involved parent where my child education is concerned. I hope you know what you are getting your self into by accepting the position as superintendent.  What the children in this county need is a strong, independent, intelligent leader. I hope you are that kind of women. The county council would like a puppet they can control. Mr. Bibb’s and Mrs. Cook have agenda of there own and don’t care what the parents think.  I hope the voters in the districts they represent have the common sense to vote them out when they come up for reelection.  If you read the archives of Edgefield daily .com, you will see the turmoil theses two people have caused in the past. Thanks to Edgefield daily .com nothing gets swept under the rug anymore, we have a voice.

I did not grow up in South Carolina and do not know any of the candidates vying for this position.

If you have the strength to come and fight for the children of this county, you will be appreciated by all.

You posted that Fox Creek's website is not a .gov or .edu site.  All school systems do not use these.  In fact, Columbia County is www.ccboe.net.  They are one of the best school systems around.  I don't understand why you constantly slam Fox Creek.  It is about time that everyone in the county pull together and strive to achieve the best for the children.  Every child is different, every circumstance is different.  What is great for a Strom Thurmond student may not work for a Fox Creek student and vice versa.  Fox Creek is a wonderful school, if you would look for the positive things, you would find out for yourself.  All schools have negative aspects.  You just always seem to want to pull out the ones from FCHS.  They don't jump in your lap - you DIG!!!  The sports program at Fox Creek is a building process.  Football (if you ever played before) is the hardest program to build.  It will come - the other programs are already leaving their marks.  Golf, Baseball, Soccer, Softball and Volleyball all were region champs.  Softball was runner up in their district.  The swimming program is unreal with a state champ on the team.  I never see any of this on your edgefielddaily.  WHY?  Because you can't slam it? We have had students receive scholarships.  One lady received a full ride.  Why didn't you print any of this?  Our clubs are constantly doing community service and giving back to the community.  Why didn't you print that? If you weren't so busy looking for the negative in Fox Creek, you might see it is actually a great school.  I am so sorry that your son did not find a place at FCHS, but Thurmond was better suited for him.  You are still holding a grudge.  I pray someday you get over it.

Editor's note: Where is that new loan? That new school building?  Let's see, they say something, it does not come true (over and over). Isn't that what you call a liar? Oh, but you want to attack one of my children. Oh, you are such a big person to attack a child.

Why would someone post Mary Rice-Crenshaw's email address and want her to read the racist, immature comments from both black and white people, claiming to be intelligent upstanding citizens. Do not be mad at this lady for applying for a job and getting it!!  Be mad at the school board, not Mary Rice-Crenshaw.  Everyday in the United States people apply for jobs and get them on the sole basis of the color of their skin and/or who they know, more so than qualifications and experience.  Happens every minute of the day in the "Everyone Created Equal" US of A, and has been happening for DECADES in Edgefield County.  It was just as wrong then as it is now. Sadly those of you hollering bloody murder now, sat back and said and did nothing back then! Ask yourself, was it because the skin colors were reverse??  Secondly, some of you accusing school board members of racism are showing your horns yourself....."African Bibbs and Soul Sister Cooks."  Looks like more than the 4 African American board members are racist.

I have taken the initiative to write Dr. Crenshaw a nice note telling her that we do not want her as our superintendent based on her past job performance. Have other Edgefield county voters also written Dr.
Crenshaw?  Positive changes can be made to put an end to this joke of a school board. A legal action against
Bibbs, Cooks and the Jackson Sisters for hiring a superintendent with questionable job performance issues is in direct conflict with the school board mandates. Who will these fools hire next?

I was very moved by the comments of the black citizens that responded about the school boards decision. I commend you for speaking up about how important it is for all children to get the best education that we can give them. Gone are the days when you can hold a good job because of your color. We are competing in a global economy that rewards those that can do the job and leaves behind those that cannot reguardless of color. Education promotes respect for oneself and pride in accomplishments. It promotes good self esteem. That will change your life and those around you forever. You do not find young people interested in getting a good education involved in gangs, hanging out in bars or locked up in jail wasting their lives. The power behind this is parents that are smart, care about the future of the children and realize that skin color can take you only so far. Our children are losing. We are failing them.. Every I watch the news and see some young person that has died in violence, I wonder what an impact he could have made to the world or to his race if he had been in school instead of on the streets. Could he have been a doctor, a teacher, a peace maker for our world? Could he have been the one to find a cure for cancer, a pastor, a loving husband, father? Our children deserve better from us. We need to stand together, black and white and fix this. We cannot let a few teach our children that their color will get them by. This is nothing but an ego and power trip for these people. What a wake up call when they get out into the real world. Is there some way to get these people out now? Can we temporarily stop the coming of Dr. Crenshaw . We cannot afford to wait until 2008. I don't have children in school, but I will contribute to hiring someone that can stop these power hungry people.

County Line does not hold elections for board members, does not post public meetings, and surely does not post when a public meeting has been rescheduled.  If they are using and spending tax money, shouldn't the public be invited/included?  Just a thought!!

There needs to be a change in School Principal's at Parker because she is just RUDE and does not have any understanding for children that are just starting school for the first time.
We as parents CAN NOT walk our children to their classrooms.
They are to line up for Breakfast in the morning and my child is so intimidated by this that he will not eat Breakfast at school.
We as parents are not allowed to so called BLOCK the driveway but yet on occasions there is no one there to open the doors so some of us parents have to get out of our vehicles to open the door because of the safety child locks on them. Which is not only an inconvenience to Ms. Holmes but also to the parents as well.

There needs to be something done about this and if there is any input that you could I would greatly appreciate it being passed along.

To the post inquiring about the "bleed over" on the scanner. EMA Director Mike Casey gave possible reasons. I will condense the content; The department bleeding in is Peachtree City Fire/Rescue and the bleed over is most predominant when there is a change in the weather.  Usually 24-36 hours ahead of a frontal passage. First, scanners do not have channel guards and therefore are like a sponge when it comes to picking up radio signals.  Second, it is possible that the firefighters may not have installed the channel guard into their radio.  They may have put in CSQ (channel squelch) and that would make them open to any reception.  Third, and by no means the least, is that we may indeed have a problem with our repeater system.

Another reader sent this comment in: I am sure that Edgefield County has no preferences with regard to Fire and Police. By the way, when this happened on the Sheriff’s channel, the problem was found to be an unlicensed repeater using the SO channel in Augusta, GA. Obviously you have no idea what finding a solution to this kind of problem involves. The SO problem took months to resolve. This is not a problem that has an of-the-shelf “fix”. I am also sure that the Edgefield County officials are doing their best to find the cause and possible solution.

I hope that helps.

Then we wander why people who do have good jobs in the county choose to live in the Aiken/Augusta area. Not only are you holding back the bright young people we have in Edgefield County, you are holding back the county as a whole!!

These candidates were presented by Dr. Calvert who was being paid thousands of our tax dollars to present the very best of all applicants. Without her wisdom and knowledge of what is best for our system, we would have never known about Dr. Rice-Crenshaw. We owe her, along with 4 of our board members a big "Thank You" for erasing over 100 years of ensuring that "all men are created equal". The money would have been better spent on a recall election. Not all Black Edgefield Countians support the School Board's decision to hire someone just because of race.  I want the best education possible for my children.  It sickens me to see Administration and teachers being hired solely based on race.  There are teachers presently in the Edgefield County School System that can't speak, write, or spell correctly.  Not too many years ago, we fought for the rights of our children to have equal opportunity and a quality education.  If the Board continues with their hiring practices, we'll have that all black school system they so desperately desire.  But at what cost?  Will the people then responsible for our children's educations in Edgefield County be the best?  Probably not.  But they will be black.  Don't sell our children short.  I want my children to have the best education possible, and if that means hiring a white applicant that is more qualified  than a black applicant - well so be it.  I want my children to go out into the world and be able to compete fairly for jobs and careers.  I don't want my children to be a "Token" or Quota".

Vision Statement

The vision of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights and there is no racial
hatred or racial discrimination.

There seems to be some miscommunication between the national chapter and our Edgefield County chapter.  Both statements above say "all persons" and are against racial discrimination....White is a race too. I'll support Kenneth Collier if he will run again! He doesn't see color.

The fab four are most definitely in the pocket of the NAACP.  Which by the way, why was the president of the NAACP in attendance of the meeting?  Could it be to keep everything racial?  Yes, Yes, and Yes indeed!!  The only reason there is a racial problem is because THEY keep it racial.  I say THEY because THEY refer to us as YA'LL (us is whitie, you know, the man that did THEM wrong. What, When? you know, over a 150 years ago!!)  Wasn't the NAACP boycotting South Carolina?  Then PLEASE boycott by leaving!@!

Wardlaw, as much as I love the qualifications of our public school teachers, is looking better and better isn't it YA'LL?  Maybe some of the good teachers could go and teach at Wardlaw and save us all.  Also, if enough students move (and I bet they will) then there will be enough students to fill a class room.

Way to go Cooks, Bibbs, and the Jacksons.  You only have yourselves to blame for the upcoming chaos!  The district has many good teachers, leaders and support staff.  I hope they can keep the district floating until a new board can be elected.  This is not meant to be racist and to prove it, I would like to name some black employees that, in my opinion, are fair, honest and doing a great job:  (names removed: Those not in the public purview are not allowed to be posted even if it is commending them for the job well done.)

IGNORANT RACISTS! that is all I can say about the four black members of the Edgefield County School Board.  They are a disgrace to the human race.  The decision made Tuesday night by these four to not hire Dr. Mathis did more to hurt race relations than anything I have seen in many years.  They only see color and could care less about the children (black or white).  Much of the blame falls on those persons in this county (mainly white) who did not care enough to vote and allowed these four clowns to be elected.  Some think if they don't have anyone in public school, it does not affect them.  You'd better think again.  If responsible people (both black and white) sit on their behinds and don't vote these four out and elect an intelligent person who will put the children of the county first, then our public school system here is doomed.  The state will soon have to take over and you'll see a mass exodus of kids and staff from our system. WAKE UP!  Our teachers are aware of what it going on and parents had better  rise up and voice their disapproval.

Regarding the County School Superintendent position, I have read of a threatened teacher "sick-out" and a move of children to Wardlaw. Both are great ideas, but neither will happen. These people don't have the intestinal fortitude to do it. The school board is a joke, true, but at least they have the guts to do as they darn well please even if its racist and illegal. RISE UP EDGEFIELD COUNTY OR SHUT UP! There's more that can be done other than waiting to elect new board members (which won't happen, either). It's time to put your money where your mouth is.

Folks:  You will find this published school board policy on the edgefield.k12.sc.us website under the School Board section.  If someone wanted to canvas our population for documented emails sent to the school board pertaining to their hiring practices (particularly for superintendent), you'll have the documentation to support that this school board is in violation of Policy AB.  Read on and you'll see.  This has been copied directly from that website.

Policy
THE PEOPLE AND THEIR SCHOOL DISTRICT
Code AB Issued 6/99
Purpose: To ensure board accountability to both the state and the local citizens.

The board is the legal entity for conducting a system of public education within the geographic area of a school district. The system was created by, and is governed by, state statutes. Members of the board are public officers chosen by citizens to represent them and the state in the legislative management of public schools.

The board must implement statutory requirements pertaining to public education and implement local citizens' desires for educating the community's youth. While the board has an obligation to determine and assess citizens' desires, when citizens elect board members to represent them in the conduct of public education, they at the same time endow them with the authority to exercise their best judgement in determining policies, making decisions and approving procedures for carrying out their responsibilities.

The board therefore reaffirms and declares its intent to do the following.

Maintain two-way communication with citizens of the district. The board will keep the public informed of the progress and problems of the school district and will urge citizens to bring their aspirations and feelings about the public schools to the board's attention.

Establish policies and make decisions on the basis of declared educational philosophy and goals.

Act as a truly representative body for citizens of the district in matters involving public education.

Adopted 6/8/99

Tuesday night's school board meeting was as predictable as day and night. The four Africans voted in their new African superintendent to bring our school system into the 17th century. We are in Big trouble Keemosabee. If Jesus were to be voted as superintendent, he would have to be black, in order for African Bibbs, Soul-Sister Cooks and the other two Africans to consider him acceptable. How do we get our school system away from these NAACP clowns? A possible answer to this problem may be redistrict an area of the county where real taxpayers can have their vote heard. Most of the Bibbs, Cooks and the other two board members represent voters who are living on some form of welfare, having babies and getting in trouble with the law. And, these are the people who dictate our educational system? OHHHHH....am I being racist? NOOOO...I'm thinking in a pragmatic and practical manner for the sake of our children and teachers (Bibbs can't even say these words). We also need to form a group of concerned voters who want the NAACP agenda out of our school system. It's time to take a stand and not worry what the Africans think. After all, they want to be called Africans, let them return to their motherland and see how the real Africans will greet them. I bet, African Bibbs and Soul-Sister Sallie would be on the main-course for dinner in Somalia.

From what I gathered, it was a joint endeaver by more than one agency, including the Edgefield County Sheriffs' Office. If someone is going to give credit, give it to everyone involved! Johnston does not have the manpower to do this alone. And a lot of the arrests were not in the city limits of Johnston. Check this weeks Crime Blotter and you'll see what agency has the most arrests and activity. Let's not try to glorify one man when it took the efforts of a lot to accomplish this! The reason the drug activity got so out of hand, in Johnston, to start with was because there has been almost no proactive drug operations or sweeps by police,in almost two years. It's about time they stepped up to bat! We should be grateful to all emergency services who risk their lives for our safety. The Sheriffs' Office, City Police Depts., Highway Patrol, EMS, Fire Depts., First Responders, etc. God Bless You All!

The line has been drawn in the sand and racism does exist as displayed Monday night by Professor Bibbs and Sister Cooks and the other two non-white board  members. The superintendent job is a no win situation for edgefield county and will result in some underqualified NAACP buffon getting the position. Our children will suffer and so will the decent teachers. Moron Bibbs and Soul Sister Cooks are beating their NAACP agenda loudly and proudly and there is nothing decent white and black voters can do. However, when reelection time arrives for school board, we need new members who will make Bibbs and Cooks life miserable at each meeting. Bibbs and Cooks will be reelected because they represent the caliber of ebonic voter we unfortunately have in this county.  What motivates Bibbs and Cooks to smile at the trouble they make? They are righting a wrong...called slavery. They are fighting the Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton battle. It's time to take back our school system and be a racist for what is right. This is the time when fire must be fought with fire.

Dr. Mathis has been in this county for 29 years of service. He loves this county. He loves ALL of the children of this county. When he went to the D.O. the rest of the county could witness his commitment to our students and schools! Talk with the other schools other than just the Merriwether area, they loved him. We hardly saw him at M.E.S. after his promotion, because he devoted his time to the other schools. I wish the school board would talk to their friends in the county and ask how Dr. Mathis treated them. He is a very good man and a great leader.

Maybe if we stand united and make our presence known, then somene on the school board will wise up and do what's right for our children.  What's that you ask? DAVID MATHIS FOR SUPT.  Otherwise, we  MUST remove this poison from our school board. Some of these people CAN'T be re-elected. We simply can't allow that to happen. I hate to see what will happen to our schools if we continue to allow this type of behavior on our school board.

Why bring in a superintendent that was not worthy of the Dorchester District Four job? The Dorchester school board met four times and did not reach a decision to rehire Dr. Crenshaw. She quit prior to the board making their decision known publicly. Call your board members or email them today!( Cooks, Bibbs, M A Jackson, and Viola Jackson need to be called or emailed often to let them know your displeasure with their color oriented mindset) I never thought Viola Jackson would stoop to the lower end of the Bibbs & Cooks show!  Mark it down, the fall out is just beginning. The district will split up over this one and the $25 activity fees will seem cheap as time progresses. Oh yeah, the 4 will vote Tuesday night for the above referenced Dorchester reject simply because of color! PACK THE BOARD ROOM AT 6:00 PM  Bring signs so the news media can see our displeasure because the media will be asked to attend and see the 4 in action!

The Edgefield County School Board displayed their true color tonight as they voted 4-3 to defeat a motion made by Scott Chitty to hire Dr. David Mathis as superintendent. As the crowd walked in after executive session, James Bibbs laughed out loud at the all white observers. On a humorous note, a motion was made & seconded to adjourn with four board members raising their hands in approval. There was only one problem, Mary Alice Jackson had raised her hand with the approvals which was not what the chairperson Cooks wanted. She then asked M A Jackson are you sure you want to do that? At that time M A Jackson lowered her hand in disapproval. The board adjourned because a vote is not needed to adjourn, only a motion & second was needed. If you care for your child, call your board rep Tuesday & pack the board room Tuesday night! Please be there!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is a shame that parents don't take more interest in their childrens education.  Tonight the district hosted Meet the Drivers night for parents who had children who ride buses to and from Johnston Elementary, W E Parker, JET, and STHS.  Very few parents attended this event but yet they packed the stands for Meet the Rebels night & they crowded the halls for open house.  The majority of the children in our district ride buses but yet the parents aren't concerned enough to come out and meet the drivers.  There is a new Transportation Supervisor and she is trying to open the lines of communication between the drivers and the parents but nobody cared enough to show up.  But they will be first ones to call and complain about the driver, which by the way, they don't know the name because why? they didn't take the time to come and find out.  For the parents who did show up, I think it is great that you took time out of your schedule to show some concern.  I only hope that the parents in the Douglas area and the Merriwether area show more concern than the parents around here.  Stop and think for a minute where our district would be without these bus drivers.  They are the beginning of the educational system.  Without them we wouldn't need all the teachers, coaches, and administrator because the number of children would be cut drastically.  Like I said before, the majority of our children depend on the bus as their means of transportation.  Would it have hurt you to take 1 hour out of your day to come out and meet them and show that you do support them and what they do?  I would just like to say that you are appreciated and respected.   Keep your head up and keep doing what you do - A great job!!

No, I am not "in the pocket" of Dr. Mathis. I just happen to be a concerned citizen and parent in this district. I also have enough sense to know how the board operates. What I say is true---like it or not. YOU obviously know very little about the shenanigans of the school board in Edgefield County. Does the term racism mean anything to you? Look it up. It has been very common within the school district the past few years.

Dr. Mathis did what he had to do two years ago---for reasons you are obviously too ignorant to understand. Now, thankfully, he is back , and wants to bring his knowledge and leadership back to our county. Maybe he, like many of us, pray that our school board will change. One can only hope. In addition, isn't it possible that he was contacted by someone in our district who asked him to apply for the job? I'm certain he has MANY supporters who have filled his ear over the past few weeks and months regarding the future of Edgefield County.  The fact that he's willing to come back to our county even after being WRONGED, just goes to show how much he loves Edgefield County and how loyal he is to the people here.  After all, he devoted his entire professional career to the children in our county---when he could have worked other places all those years for much more money.

What do you know about the other canidates? Do your research...you'll see why he's easily the best choice for our district. Or...maybe you truly don't care about what's best for the children in this county.

To the person asking about competitive fast pitch softball.  Yes, Fox Creek has a softball team.  Any student who is currently attending Fox Creek is free to try out.  However, if you are currently attending Merriweather Middle or some other school you care not eligible to play for Fox Creek.  The only high school team a student from Merriweather can play for is Strom Thurmond High.  Do not let anyone tell you different.  South Carolina High School League rules state that middle school students can only play for the high school that the middle school officially feeds.  Because Fox Creek is a charter school with open enrollment, it has no feeder school according to the SCHSL.
Several girls from Merriweather Middle were misled last year into thinking that they would lose eligibility if they played for STHS as a middle school student and then attended Fox Creek as a Freshman.  This is not the case.  Eligibility is established in your Freshman year of high school.  You cannot lose a year of eligibility until you are enrolled in high school.
I happen to know that the softball coach at Strom Thurmond wants as many middle school students as are interested to try-out for the STHS team this year.  Hopefully they will see the bright future that STHS softball has and choose to attend here to get the best education and be a part of the best athletic program in the county.

Well, it has started.  Got my first piece of campaign literature in the mail today.  It was from Bill Hixon.  It was sporting his list of "proud" supporters.  Boy, he really has some important names on that list.  Most of them I've never heard of!  One of them did ring a bell though.  Brenda Carpenter.  Isn't that one of the county magistrates?  I didn't think a Judge was supposed to publicly support a political candidate.  Does anyone know if this is considered "politically correct"?  I guess we know who won't be getting found guilty of any traffic violations.  Same (excrement), different day.

Editor's note: I spoke with a number of those listed on the mail-out on Friday. Of the half-dozen or so I contacted they said they did not publically support Bill Hixon, including Judge Carpenter. In addition, two family members listed had no idea how their names appeared on the mailer.

Our editor has a blind spot on the issue of Rural Residential Zoning.  A disservice is done to all of his readers in his failure to omit the fair and balanced facts regarding the so called "Chicken Issue".  The public record will show that the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended the adoption of the ordinance to
County Council based on the meticulous canvassing of the neighbors affected, the overwhelming support for the zone and the superlative attention to detail in fulfilling the letter of the law in researching and writing the ordinance.  Hundreds of people participated in the effort, not just Ms. Horne.

Next, the matter was passed on to County Council for three readings. At the public comment session, support was unanimous for the zone. Nobody spoke against it, including the editor who was present, and
Mr. Cato who didn't care to attend or to even send a statement.  It was passed unanimously by Council.  Democracy at its best had prevailed!

Rather than present a balanced presentation of the facts and consult the record and other principals in the process, our dear editor cites as his major source ex-administrator Adams.  Longtime readers of the
Edgefield Daily will recall that this is a man the editor fought a prolonged crusade against and who was often portrayed as evil incarnate.    He's now a star witness?  Also, Mr. Cato is the "exclusive interviewee" of the editor.  An objective reading of the statements of this gentleman could well result in his (having problems), especially when one examines the written statements made to DHEC on which its permits were issued.  It is good to know that the editor has this interview on the record.  Can we count on him to print it??

Maybe justice would be better served by respecting the will of Mr. Cato's neighbors and just letting the matter drop.

Editor's note: I have no problem with the residents of Lake Trenton wanting and getting zoning. It was passed with no opposition. Good for you. There is also no question concerning Mr. Adams' letter stating the zoning was implemented because of the chicken farm. That, like it or not, is illegal. Also the active roll that Nadine Horne played cannot be ignored and the facts surrounding the passage is also a matter of public record. I said then, now, and will say in the future that the county cannot impose restrictions on farming in South Carolina because it is a "Right to farm state". I could place a hog farm in downtown Edgefield if I owned enough land to meet the state's requirements.

I am not the one with the "blind eye". Okay, I have only one eye so I guess I do have a blind eye, but it is not to the laws of the state and my interpretation of the laws because I have an person agenda in the matter. Your anger grows because you are being defeated by the laws and the personal rights that you personally disagree with.

I could care less if Mr. Cato has his chicken farm or anyone else for that matter. The septic tanks of Lake Trenton residents pose a far greater threat to the ground water than ten chicken houses would, much less one.

Maybe Mr. Cato spoke to EdgefieldDaily.com because we do not do "sensational" news just to get readers but rather depend on pure facts to support our stories. If you want "emotionally driven news" do not read EdgefieldDaily.com. Do not have "sour grapes" because we state both sides of a story factually  even if that does not support your "personal" opinion.

If you disagree, write a letter to the editor. There are no word limits to opinions.

To the person who says David Mathis doesn't belong back in the school district: Obviously, you wouldn't know quality leadership if it slapped you in the face. There is NO ONE more suited for this position than David Mathis. His record in our district speaks for itself. Take a look at test scores, implementation of new techniques/strategies in the classroom, and morale of those who worked for him, and you will see just how much of an asset this man is to whomever employs him. What you failed to mention was the way some on our school board members "ran him out" two years ago so that they could hire someone simply because of the color of his skin. I am not saying Dr. Roberson wasn't qualified. What I am saying is that Dr. Mathis deserved the position of Supt. in Edgefield when Dr. Keesley retired. However, due to what many believe to be racist tactics by the board, he was never given that opportunity. Unfortunately, he was "pushed aside" so that someone of the board's choosing could be "next in line" for the Supt.'s position. Do the math...read between the lines...call it what you want.  Dr. Mathis was WRONGED by the Edgefield County School Board. Did you ever stop to think that maybe he knew  the Supt.'s  job would never be his? Could that possibly be the reason he took a position elsewhere? Afterall, if more money were his motive, he'd have left Edgefield many years ago.   Also, as for the comment about  the board not giving Dr. Roberson what he wanted so he'd stay: please tell me WHY on earth they should have given him what he wanted (which was the opportunity to JUMP SHIP the minute something better came along). Dr. Roberson wanted the job in Edgefield County...until the Aiken Supt. position became available. It doesn't take a genius to figure that one out.

ATTENTION SCHOOL BOARD:  Please, please consider the best interest of the children when you hire a superintendent. As a former employee of the district, who has a grandchild in the system now, I urge you to consider hiring Dr. David Mathis.  We did him wrong when he wasn't offered Dr. Keesley's job and we have a chance to get him back.  He has proven himself as a great administrator who can get the job done.  Why should we pass over him and hire someone we know very little about......except maybe because we have an
agenda?  We've made enough mistakes lately.......let's now make another one. Consider the children!

I am very concerned for the future of the Edgefield County School District.  I have 3 children who attend our schools.  I have always been proud to say that they were students in this school district.  Our school district has been on the cutting edge of the educational community with the achievement of such programs as SACS accreditation and Exempliary Writing Awards.  Through the use of the Accelerated Reader Program and implementation of the 4 Blocks Method of instruction, teachers are able to build reading comprehension and literacy skills.  By using such diagnostic tools as the STAR Reading Tests and more recently  Measures of Academic Progress (MAP)  our teachers can spend more time teaching to their students individual levels thus meeting their needs and the skills required by our state on the PACT test.  I'm sure these programs sound familiar to most parents in our school district.  They are the dire ct result of Dr. David Mathis.  In the years he has served this community and our children he has put Edgefield County School District on the map.  We have been recognized for academic achievements and program implementation as a direct result of his positive leadership.  Please contact your school board member or all of the school board members and demand that they put the children of Edgefield County first in their decision to hire a superintendent.  This past summer, our district took a blow in the media, and we were placed in the spotlight with negative publicity based on the recent hiring practices of our school board.  Please help clear up the name of our county and provide our children with the best possible leadership---Dr. David Mathis!

Well, it is my understanding that the School District is at it again.  Mrs. Diane Murrell was in need of a new secretary.  She interviewed 5 or 6 applicants.  Of those applicants she had several very qualified people to choose from.  But, no, what does she do?  She takes Dr. Myrtis Brightharp's secretary from her who, I am told, did not even apply for the position.    Go School District for your very upstanding tactics.

And as for as Dr. David Mathis coming back as superintendent.  Not a good idea.  He and Mrs.
Murrell are just too tight for the good of the children.  They are up to no good, they will just look out for each other's back and stab other people in their backs.  This school district needs a fresh new person as superintendent, someone who can be objective and not have relatives and good friends working for the district.  It is just too bad that Dr. Frank Roberson can't stay.  They lost a good one when the board would not honor his request.

The notice lists the revenues, expenditures and millage rates associated with the budget. To no one’s surprise, the millage rate increases and the “local requirement” is expected to be $11,910,956.  Wasn’t there a state law passed and effective this past June that increases the state sales tax which will allow the state to fund education?

Mr. Editor: Get it right.  Mr. Cato's  permit was null  and void at the time zoning was passed last year.  Rural Residential zoning was implemented because the overwhelming super-majority of the landowners in the area wanted an ordinance that protected their interests from literally hundreds of unwanted land uses, including waste dumps, shopping malls, bars, cemeteries, incinerators, factories, fuel storage depots, cafo/afo's etc.  Mr. Cato couldn't have been an issue in the zoning process- he had no permit at the time, he owned no land
in the zone, and he still doesn't.  Period.  The citizens who championed zoning followed the correct processes and were rewarded by County Council for exercising their prerogatives under the Home Rule provisions of the SC Constitution.  All very legal and proper and the embodiment of civic, patriotic action.

Now if you want to expose some fraud, lies, and collusion, do like "News 12 on Your Side" did this week:  independently and objectively research the actions of DHEC, Mr. Cato and his handlers and come to
an unbiased conclusion.

It is a sad story when Edgefield County has to worry about who will be the new superintendent. We are
worrying because, at the helm of the SS Titantic School Board are Professor Bibbs, Sister Sallie and
the 'other two'. Will the best qualified person get the job? NOOOOOOOOOO! The Professor and Sister will
promote their NAACP agenda to Edgefield County's educational demise, and hire a person who best
exemplifies their interests. What Edgefield County is witnessing, is the reemergence of the post Civil War
'Reconstruction Era' throughout the county. Look at Augusta/Richmond county and the mess that makes
Reconstruction look successful. Augusta has bigger idiots than we have, but let's not get to that point.
>From all my investigation, Dr. Mathis is the best person for the job. We do not want a superintendent
who promotes the NAACP hiring agenda or we will have Augusta Lucy Laney/Joesy castoff teachers in our
school system. Paul Martin is a great example....unless you have forgotten the mess he created thanks to Professor Bibbs and Sister Sallie.  OHHHHH....and news for the other three school board members....watch out....you may not get reelected. Your weak fortitude in fighting the NAACP foursome, has been unsuccessful. We need school board members who will make Professor Bibbs and Sister Sallie uncomfortable every time they meet. We need school board members who are against every idea Professor
Bibbs and Sister Sallie formulate from their NAACP mentality. It's time to take back Edgefield County
from the re-constructionists, including the inept White Good-ole-boys and girls, who are in positions
way beyond their qualifications. Oh....don't write in and refer to this letter as either bigoted or racist.

If one looks at the 2007 data, you will see that STHS ranks as number 24 out of the 200 reported results.  FCHS ranks at number 98 out of the 200 reported results.  Maybe the school principal is helping the scores.  His previous leadership experience (based on his published bio) was at Florence Distict One (2007 SAT results averaged 926) and Orangeburg District 5 (2007 SAT results averaged 925. )  Looks like FCHS found a leader with a history of developing underperforming students.

To the person who took jabs at Dr. Mathis: I am an employee of Edgefield County Schools. I have been in this district for many years. Dr. Mathis was, and still is, as loyal to our district as anyone I know. He has also done more (for the children in this county) than I have room to list on here.

Let's face it, Dr. Mathis saw the "writing on the wall" when he left Edgefield County two years ago. I think if you do your research, then you'll discover why he most likely left in the first place. Let's just say, he wasn't the man our board wanted for the job. Obviously, that much was clear to him. They didn't fight to keep him, nor did they indicate in any way that he was the likely candidate to replace Dr. Keesley upon her retirement. Maybe if they had done so, he'd be our Supt. now. I don't guess it has dawned on you that he was "wronged" by some of those on our school board. Only he (and the Good Lord above) knows the whole story.

The most important thing is that he has expressed an interest in coming back, and FOR THAT many of us are grateful. I hope our school board will do what's best for this children/district/county, and bring him back as Supt. If they don't, then he will continue to help improve our neighboring district, and we'll be in the hands of someone new, who knows nothing about our children and community. I encourage all employees, parents, and citizens in Edgefield to contact your board members in support of Dr. Mathis. He is clearly the best choice for Edgefield County. It's a shame some people are too narrow-minded and ignorant to see that.

I decided to read all of the articles referenced in Wandering Minds.  This led me to call a friend in Dorchester 4 and ask about the candidate that had formerly served as superintendent.  I was told if grades were given based on her instructional leadership this person would receive a D-.  Furthermore, morale fell as hiring practices began to be based on race rather than qualifications; jobs were “created” and salaries “raised” for certain employees.  This is NOT what our children need, yet I am told repeatedly that several board members are determined she receive this job.  PLEASE, contact your board members and make sure they know we expect wise decisions to be made.

Editor's post: Trenton and Bettis Academy County Councilman Willie Bright showed his true colors Tuesday night when the county council was faced with the Heritage Festival asking to use the county's "mobile concession trailer" at the Heritage Festival. Bright contended that the mobile trailer is stationary and can only be used at his park because everything that made it mobile had been removed. How special...

That is odd as Bright insisted that the enormous amount of money needed to buy the trailer at the time was needed because it could be used across the county. Of course, Mr. Bright has also called police to remove children from playing on the public park. Hello... can somebody explain the definition of "public" to Willie Bright? The whole county paid for the trailer, and the whole county can use it. Put the hitch back on, pump up the tires, and get the heck out of the way Willie. As far as the cost of unhooking the "permanent" connections, that was your doings. You pay for that. The reason for a "mobile" trailer was for it to be "mobile". The taxpayers should not be responsible for your arrogance and claim to sole ownership.

School Board elections next May '08.  Also, we are organizing our party now to support candidates who will change the faces in our county council politics.  We're no longer going to allow our county to be run by amateurs.  Join the party, network together with other concerned citizens, and let's get the job done together!  See you there.

Congratulations to CoCo Hillary Appalachian St for catching the 24 yd reception with 30 seconds to go in
the game, that set up the winning field goal against Michigan.  Some are calling this the biggest upset in
College football history!!!  Way to go CoCo....

Mr. Chris Corley needs to proof read his mail outs, the position he is running for represent four counties not just Aiken.  He has alienated large groups of voters with the mail out I received on Friday.  Some one please remind him that there are a large group of elderly in all 4 of the counties in this district.

Each county should have one senator. Edgefield, Saluda, McCormick and every other rural county shares a senator with their neighboring large county,   Aiken has 3 that live in its boundaries.

Coach Lee Sawyer.....what a class act.  ST has the ball, 1st and goal, at the one, the second/third stringers just drove the ball 60 yards down the field. Only a minute remains on the clock and the game is clearly won.  Everyone knows how much the second/third stringers would love to score, the play is sent in, Sam Broadwater (backup QB) receives the snap....and takes a knee, to end it.  ST could have easily scored
again, to run the score to ST 48 B/L 13, but Coach Sawyer has too much respect for his opposing players,
their coaches, and their fans....a lot of coaches would have given the "OK" for the backups to "punch it
in", but not Coach Sawyer....that was a classy move.
ps..i would have punched it in!!!

Saw the results for SAT scores for STHS and think that is great. What about the SAT scores for FCHS?  Will they be released so the public can see how great their student achievements are?  With the large administrative overhead they have in place, you would think their scores would have already been released.

Editor's note: I have been trying to get the Fox Creek Charter School's results to no avail, even from the Edgefield County School District. Last year Fox Creek brought the entire county down in SAT test scores. How many did they graduate? A little over a dozen... and yet they were able to bring down the entire district in SAT scores. What a grand achievement.

Does anyone know what the town ordinance in Johnston is about burning fires in your yard? I live outside the city limits but travel into town a lot and I see a large bonfire burning behind a particular house almost every night. The scary thing about this is that it is in a row of wooden houses. This is a disaster waiting to happen. I have a friend who had their homeowners insurance canceled because the inspector made an annual check of the property and saw a burn barrel, where he burned household paper type trash in the back yard. According to the inspector, burning near wooden homes is a fire hazard. Why aren't any of this person in Johnstons' neighbors concerned about this?

For the person asking about MSN TV2. Yes, there is a news website, but most people who have this refer to thier home wireless unit by that name. This gives you internet access by just hooking it to your TV. The unit is also printer compatable. It is a less expensive way to have internet access without having the cost of purchasing a computer. My mother is 71 years old, never dealt with computers, but loves her MSN TV2 unit. She has discovered the internet, sending and receiving email, and a lot of other computer features without the expense. Now she communicates with family in Texas, Tennessee, Atlanta, and other locations without the cost of long distance calling or writing with arthritic hands. She checks world and local news, entertainment news, and yes, she is a regular visitor to Edgefielddaily.com.

Editor's Post: I would like say I support and agree with Councilman Kitchens' reported comments of him not being a painted white faced clown...
