Re: "The biggist problem
with kids today is teachers arent doing theri job teaching them right
from wrong."
I suspect I now know who the kid who was arrested is, Your
son. Let's look at some history. I started school in
1963 at the age of 6. No kinder garden, no pre-school, no 4year
old kinder garden. The reason for the change is very simple, back
then parents were interested in their kids, today, these so-called
adults are more interested in drinking wine, smoking dope and getting
high. They can do this because they sit on their rear and collect
a government check.
Has any of you thought what will happen when you get so stupid that you
can do nothing but collect that check, and then the government says,
"NO"
Editor's note: Those in government work hard to enslave more people to
the government dole each year. That is why they want - to make people
dependent on them for food, housing, health care, and the list goes on.
That makes them powerful and the enslaved weak. Self-sufficient people
are individuals and are the enemy of liberal Democrats and big
government. They don't need government to survive.

Where are the parents??? I thought it was their job to raise
THEIR kids...It sure seems like they don't mind having the fun to get
them here but they sure don't take care of them once the fun is
over!!! Teachers aren't supposed to RAISE your kids...just
EDUCATE them (and that would be a lot eaiser if the parents
cared)!!! By the way I'm not a teacher!!! I just feel sorry for
them because of what they have to put up with these days.

we bought our house approximately 6 years ago, and from day 1
we have had problems with water and sewage. the water problem was
corrected after about 2 1/2 years, but the sewage is an ongoing problem
that apparently can't be fixed. about a year ago we recieved
notice on our water bill, that rates were going up to improve the
sewage lines in edgefield. i was told today that the
improvements mentioned were, to improve the main trunck lines, in
town. we live in town, and our sewage has been backing up into
our home, on average of 2 to 3 times a year. everyone with the
water company that comes out knows exactly where the problem is, so why
can't they just fix it? We replaced our water and sewage lines
completly within the 1st year of buying our home because we were told
the problem was in our lines. it wasn't! i just want it to
be fixed! we at this point have raw sewage in our yard at the
road, that when i attempted to call them back to get them to at least
put lime on it, they did not return my call. maybe just
mentioning it here will give some incentive to fix the problem. i
can't be the only one with the problem!!! thanks for letting me
blow off a little steam.

Oookay…Well, now we know what your excuse will be when your
child is arrested in the future. Children learn from the examples
that their family members set well before they are enrolled in
school. Have you ever heard the expression, “Children learn what
they live?” Our primary “job” as teachers is to teach academic
skills to children, but thanks to parents (if indeed you are a parent)
like you, we spend much time teaching social skills, conflict
resolution, and remedial academic skills (from which you might
benefit. Adult Education services are available; for more
information, you may call Edgefield County Adult Education at
803-275-1788). If a parent does not accept responsibility (and
the responsibility for a child’s upbringing should lie with those
responsible for bringing that child into the world), of course their
child will not learn to accept responsibility, either. If a
teacher were to correct your child, odds are that you would complain
about it!

First of all, your grammar and spelling was much better this
time.
As for a grudge against the Fire Chief of CountyLine, he clearly stated
his priorities; looking for the paranormal, riding his bike, and the
fire department comes LAST (if he has time)…BOO! On another note,
it is hard to stand behind someone/something when you know everything
is not on the up-and-up and there are unethical practices being
allowed. I do realize that this is a VOLUNTEER organization, but
I can remember (not so long ago); there was always someone at the fire
department.
As for no one being at Belvedere Station on HWY 25 (which is their
station 2), you should check out their main station. Someone is
there 95% of the time. And guess what…they are VOLUNTEERS
also. Are you trying to say that you are hanging out at your
station 2?

To the poster blaming teachers for not teaching kids right
from wrong--
You are way out of line with this comment! Teaching kids right from
wrong begins at home with the parent(s). If any child has not
been taught the basics of right and wrong before they start to school,
they are basically little animals by this time. No teacher should be
expected to do what a parent has neglected, or continues to
neglect, to do. A teacher's job is to educate in the studies so
that those that want to succeed can do so. Of course, they build
on teaching social skills, but this is not their primary job. I
am not an educator, but I certainly have sympathy for those teachers
who have to deal with children who come from homes with your attitude.
By the way, maybe you should have paid more attention when you
were/are in class. Out of 17 little words, you had 3 with
incorrect spelling or punctuation!

Obviously, the biggest problem your teachers faced was
teaching you proper spelling. Morals aren't listed anywhere in
the the SC state standards that teachers are required to teach.
That is the job of the PARENTS you moron. If parents were doing
THEIR job, the job of the teachers would be much easier and valuable
classroom instructional time would not be lost dealing with
disrespectful children. I once had a fifth grader tell me that
she didn't have to say 'ma'am' to me because her grandmother told her
she didn't have to. These are the types of situations that
teachers deal with on a daily basis. You need to spend a day in
the public school system and get an idea of what a difficult job
teachers have. I bet you wouldn't last until lunchtime.

NO!! It is the PARENTS job to teach them right from wrong! The teachers
have absolutely NO say so in the matter, they cannot discipline them.
If the do try to correct their behavior they get corrected by the
parent of a "perfect child". I'm sick and tired of these sorry piece of

I could not agree more about the rising costs of a college
education. I thought Wardlaw was expensive but even the state supported
schools are getting out of reach.Do not expect any help from Senator
Massey. I checked and he voted to cut funding for colleges which means
that tuition will have to continue to rise. This is the first time that
I have written to daily but I have to agree with some of the earlier
comments that Senator Massey is not going to change a thing in
Columbia. I am not a democrat or a republican so I don't want to get
involved in that argument. I just know that Massey is not all that he
said he was going to be. He is too young to understand and not from
here so there is no way he can appreciate our problems. Nothing against
him personally but I think everybody realizes what I am saying.
By the way, if I still have some space left, I really appreciate your

Editor's note: Not to take sides, but I believe most representatives

Sorry, but I feel the need to disagree with the person who
wrote "shame on the NWTF" for not listing the obituary of Tom Rodgers
on their website. First off, unlike most company websites, the
NWTF staff is responsible for the upkeep and content of its
website. With Mr. Rodgers passing away on Christmas day there was
no way that any employees would be available to update the site.
Secondly, the vast majority of employees in the NWTF's communications
department moved to Edgefield from other parts of the country.
The Federation does a wonderful job of allowing those employees to make
the trip home in order to spend the Holidays with their families.
Again, creating a situation that would leave the staff short handed.
This past summer the Federation honored Mr. Rodgers for his role in the
founding of this wonderful organization. Tom was a great man of
vision who no doubt felt a tremendous amount of pride at watching his
idea become the second largest conservation organization in our
country.

When do the new county council members take over?
Editor's note: The newly elected members; Rodney Ashcraft and Genia
Blackwell, take office on January 6, 2009. Two new members is not a
"take over" of the county council since there are five members. The
2010 election could be pivotal as off year elections generally see
lower voter turnout and one or more of the long term incumbents could
be unseated. As I understand two of the three sitting tenured members
will be challenged in 2010.

I am a student a STHS and I am trying to help raise money for
extracurricular activities at the school. This past summer I was
at Furman University and involved in the Emerging Public Leaders
program. Only seventeen students were selected to participate in
this program from around the US and when we left Furman we were all set
with a task of accomplishing a service project in our
communities. The service project that I have come up with is to
have a carnival at the school to help raise money for
extracurricular activities. I know that as the budget cut begins
to get deeper and deeper these activities are the ones that can be
hanging by a string, but in my efforts I hope to make sure that
this does not happen. I have started up a committee of students that
are helping me get this event rolling, but I can use all the help I can
get. If there is anyone in the community that would like to help
me out or even give us a donation towards our efforts, it would be
greatly appreciated. We can use any sort of donations. I am opened to
suggestions and ideas that anyone may have. If you would like to get in
touch with me, you can call me at 803-334-8247 and I can give you
more details into what we want to accomplish. Thank you very much!!!!

As a mom with 3 in college, the constant
increase in tuition has hit me extremley hard. I recieved a letter from
a public uiniversity in SC stating that once again, they were facing
huge budget cuts. The funding for public universities has gone from
40% to less than 18%.within the past 5 years. These kids are the
future leaders of our state; and yet we continue to push more and
more away from a college education. Only the rich will be able to
afford a 4 yr public university degree from SC. That is absolutely
appalling! I am to the point now, where I may have to force one child
to drop out so I can pay for the others, its that BAD. a 11% increase
last year wiped out what I had left. I have sold my home, car, and used
up savings to send my kids to college. They worked hard and earned their
way into college, only to have budget cuts eat up their scholarship
money. Life scholarships are a joke, with the 11% increase in tuition I
had to pay out over$2000.even WITH student loans. when will our state
government finally put the kids of South Carolina FIRST? When will the
raping of our education system finally end? Senator Massey what will
YOU do to stop the constant cuts from Education, so ALL students are
created equal?Who will stand up for the kids of our state? If something

Mr. Editor,
Do you know which public official is “responsible” for rental of the
gym on Church Street in Edgefield? I would like to know who
approves the decision to rent the facility for loud, late night
events. Also, do you know who I could contact to inquire about
how noise ordinance rules/laws apply to events held at that gym?
It’s after midnight and the music continues to pound through my home
nearly two blocks away. On most days, this is a very quiet
neighborhood filled with churches and children. That all changes
each time the approving stroke of a city official’s pen transforms this
sleepy residential neighborhood into a late-night party zone.
Editor's note: According to the newly passed noise ordinance in the
town, loud music or sounds from a party would have to subside by
midnight on the weekends (excluding Sunday which would be 11 pm).
I believe anyone can rent the gym as long as it is not reserved for
that date. Please check with the Edgefield Town Hall (803-637-4014) or

Editor's note: First off let me say Merry Christmas and thank you for
your ill-timed comment. I never take "glory" in reporting the death of
anyone, I do it with a heavy heart.
On Oct. 28, 1988, our fifth wedding anniversary, 70-year-old Margaret
Brown Kelly, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, ran out of the “suicide lane”
on Washington Road into traffic and was struck and killed by the truck
I was driving that evening on our way to celebrate our anniversary. My
wife, who was pregnant at the time with our second child, was rushed to
Doctor’s Hospital. Though found to be not at fault in the death, I
remember it every day of my life and still have nightmares. Thank you
for making it more present in my memory during this time of year.
I have a job to do and part of that is to report the good, bad, and

That does not mean I do not deal with the emotional aspects of seeing,

I
have a few questions about the renting of the town gym. How
much does the town make off renting out the gym? Who determines
who it is rented to? What is the process? Is there any
followup after a person or group rents it and then
violence erupts? Does that
person or group get to rent the gym ever again? If the town
starts making the official "renter" responsible for the people at their
event then maybe the bad "renters" will find somewhere else to
go. The last thing I want to see is the riffraff from "The

am confused. The story first states that one driver was found
uninjured and the other deceased ..... then this statement is
contraindicated by stating the driver of the Chevy was suffering from
ONLY minor injuries and was treated on the scene.
Did the word "ONLY" have to be in inserted in the sentence?
Simply "minor injuries" would have sufficed. I simply cannot
believe that this driver was suffering "ONLY" from minor
injuries. Let's face it - the driver was in a
automobile accident in which another human being was killed - I am
quite sure the driver's injuries go much farther than "ONLY"
minor physical ones.
If it had been me that had been the driver who survived - devastation
is the only word that comes to mind. Furthermore, if I had then
read your article, I would have been truly hurt and offended by your
reporting. I sincerely hope the survivor in the accident
does not read your article. Please ask your reporters to be more
careful with their words. It is amazing how one word can make a
story and the people in them seem rather callous.
Sincerely,
An avid reader, writer, and concerned citizen
Editor's note: I covered that story
personally and the fact that the second driver suffered from a
bloody nose considering the devastating impact was remarkable. As one

do not take the mental aspects of the surviving party of a fatality

Boy I can't wait to learn all about your publication. It should

credentials right, second your lack of knowledge regarding what an
administrative assistant does is showing. Administrative
assistants are usually the back bone of a company. They do all
the leg work for those who make decisions and most times perform those
duties for which the "bosses" are greatly rewarded. So if you are
a publication, you are performing poorly at best. Serious
publications research their information before commenting. Your
comments show you open your mouth long before your brain is in

Was
the $425 verdict money you received in your lawsuit against the
Building Inspector seed money for Edgefielddaily? From local sources
there is a different story about how the lock was broken on the gate to
your domicile. I've heard from many sources, locally (I live in
Wisconsin), that you allegedly, notice I said allegedly, have some real
mental issues.
Editor's note:
Thank you for your comment. Legally I have to refrain from comment on
this subject, until it is brought up. Edgefield County Building and
Planning Director Charles “Jack” Jenkins, supported by then County
Administrator Wayne Adams, physically attacked me at a public meeting.
Though Chief Magistrate Davis Parkman, County Administrator Wayne
Adams, and then Edgefield Mayor John Pettigrew, tried to circumvent the
arrest of Mr. Jenkins, justice prevailed.
On the day of court I was blindsided and was forced to act as the
prosecuting agency, rather than the EPD, who investigated and swore to
the warrant for Jenkins arrest.
North Augusta Judge and lawyer Tom Murphy, who represented Building and
Planning Director Charles “Jack” Jenkins in the case, got his hat
handed to him by my handling of the case and a jury found Jenkins
guilty and he had to pay a $425 fine after being found guilty by a jury
in the criminal trial. The state got that money, not me.
However, I did sue the county in civil court and that case was settled
out of court for an “undisclosed” amount of money. (It's kind of hard
to refute a case when your client has already been found guilty in a
criminal case).
But, according to court records, then Mayor of Edgefield (now County
Administrator) John Pettigrew reportedly gave false information to
police in an effort to stop the investigation. Furthermore, according
to court records, Mr. Pettigrew and Judge Davis Parkman both stated
that if the police would just ignore the claim it would, “go away”. In
my opinion they impeded a police investigation of a violent crime.
They were wrong and I won.
In my opinion they both should have been brought up on charges of
judicial misconduct as well as then Sheriff Billy Parker who, according
to sworn testimony, refused to allow Jenkins to be fingerprinted and
his record recorded by SLED so that Jenkins would have no criminal
record when convicted.
This claim was later supported by a report by The Citizen News after
they checked the arrest record.
These are not my claims; this is the testimony of the official court
records and testimony from the Edgefield Chief of Police at the time. I
am just reporting what is already in the official court records.
Again, what is the name of your “publication”? Why is your IP address
ithe same as “others” who send in similar comments so critical of me?
How is that possible unless you are all using the same computer?
Oh, and your IP address proves you are a liar, you don't live in
Wisconsin. Lie to someone who has less brains than a cucumber, not me.
Thank you for opening a door that has long remained closed.
I will be happy to go deeper into this subject if you want to ask more
questions.

Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens.
Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in rented
or government-owned tenements and living off various forms of
government welfare..."
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the
"complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of
democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already
having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

Modern
Parable.
A Japanese company (Toyota) and an American company (Ford Motors)
decided to have a canoe race on the Missouri River Both teams practiced
long and hard to reach their peak performance before the race. On the
big day, the Japanese won by a mile.
The Americans, very discouraged and depressed, decided to investigate
the reason for the crushing defeat. A management team made up of senior
management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate action.
Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person
steering, while the American team had 7 people steering and 2 people
rowing.
Feeling a deeper study was in order; American management hired a
consulting company and paid them a large amount of money for a second
opinion. They advised, of course, that too many people were steering
the boat, while not enough people were rowing.
Not sure of how to utilize that information, but wanting to prevent
another loss to the Japanese, the rowing team's management structure
was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 2 area steering
superintendents and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager.
They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 2
people rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was called
the 'Rowing Team Quality First Program,' with meetings, dinners and
free pens for the rowers. There was discussion of getting new paddles,
canoes and other equipment, extra vacation days for practices and
bonuses. The pension program was trimmed to 'equal the competition' and
some of the resultant savings were channeled into morale boosting
programs and teamwork posters.
The next year the Japanese won by two miles.
Humiliated, the American management laid-off one rower, halted
development of a new canoe, sold all the paddles, and canceled all
capital investments for new equipment. The money saved was distributed
to the Senior Executives as bonuses.
The next year, try as he might, the lone designated rower was unable to
even finish the race (having no paddles,) so he was laid off for
unacceptable performance, all canoe equipment was sold and the next
year's racing team was out-sourced to India .
Sadly, the End.
Here's something else to think about: Ford has spent the last thirty
years moving all its factories out of the US, claiming they can't make
money paying American wages.
TOYOTA has spent the last thirty years building more than a dozen
plants inside the US . The last quarter's results: TOYOTA makes 4
billion in profits while Ford racked up 9 billion in losses.
Ford folks are still scratching their heads, and collecting bonuses...
and now wants the Government to 'bail them out'.
Editor's note: The difference? Unions. Ford has them, Toyota does not.

Hey
Wandering Minds editor. Name one far-left move that the Pres.-Elect
Obama Admin has made. Seems pretty centrist to me. He kept Gates, hired
Jim Jones; Salazaar is a drill baby, drill centrist. Vilsak is a
moderate, even though I don't like ethanol subsidies. When does the
far-left attitude kick in? When should everybody start to be scared?
You're a lot of hot air. I write in so you will light up another
cigarette and that will be one more nail in your coffin. You should buy
stock in Phillip Morris if you are going to light one up right after
another.
Editor's note: Speaking of smoking, what are you smoking to not see
that Obama is naming most of the former Clinton Cabinet to power,
including Hillary Clinton? On top of that Steven Chu being named as
energy secretary is putting a guy in charge of energy that has said the
US should pay gas prices higher than those in Europe. Now there is a
guy I want making policy decisions for the US (real centrist). Oh, did
I forget to mention he said coal was his "worst enemy"? I can see why
Obama chose him since Obama said he wanted to bankrupt the coal
industry in the US. An incoming president saying he wants to bankrupt
an entire industry (that will also raise the cost of electricity ten
fold) in the midst of a economic downward slide is about as bright as
wanting to increase taxes (oh, I forgot, Obama wants to do that too).
Don't forget Obama wants to let the across the board tax cuts expire
(another "centrist" move) raising taxes on everyone.
Obama has also said he wants to implement a trillion dollars in
spending. (Yeah, that's "right wing") while the economy is going in the
tank because of Democrats forced the banking industry to make loans to
people on welfare for houses they can't afford and caused the failure
of banks. (Right-wing stuff there too).
Obama has appointed the most liberal people to his cabinet, excluded
anyone from the south, and his plans (though vague because he has yet
to be specific on anything) are designed to bring our country to its
fiscal knees.
By the way, how's his Democrat buddies in Chicago doing in that
corruption thing? Of course, the very people he was so close to all of
a sudden are "distant acquaintances". The same way his radical
racist preacher of 20 years "Rev" Wright, terrorist Bill Ayers, and
convicted corruption king Tony Rezco just don't matter.
Oh, by the way, since you worry about accusations of Obama being an
"immigrant", his own appointment to Sec. of Commerce Gov. Bill
Richardson said Obama
was "an immigrant" and would be looking out for other "immigrants".
Yeah, nothing left-wing coming from Obama. I'd rather smoke a cigarette
than your crack pipe of Marxism.
Name one "centrist" move Obama has suggested.

that has any undue influence on their support of his agenda.
I still can't figure out why we have to pay Bettis Rainsford to lobby
our own state representatives with tax money when we pay them with tax
money to promote our agendas already? The county has already signed on
and given $5,000 (foolishly) to Bettis to promote his scheme, why does
the cash strapped School Board need to do the same redundantly? I think
its time for Bettis to show other county's are on board before he
starts swiping money from our schools for his idea. Not one of our

In
reference to Bettis Rainsford's request for $5000.00 lobbying money at
our last school board meeting, one of our board members said he did not
want to make the same mistake the school board made when they did not
take part in an equitable funding lawsuit. He said that the
school district did not get any money because they did not
participate. I am no lawyer or politician(thank goodness), but it
is my understanding that this time we are talking about the state
legislature passing a law. If that is the case, if the law is
passed that Mr. Rainsford is touting, all counties will enjoy the
benefits. It does not matter if we help pay for a lobbyist or
not. This is just another example of how some on our school board
are not capable of putting a complete and reasonable thought
together. Please contact your school board member and tell them
we do not need to be spending $5000.00 for a lobbyist at this
time. I am sure some of that money will end up in Mr. Rainsford's
pocket. He is following the same pattern he always does. He
makes a great sales pitch for money and makes it appear to be so
urgent. That way he tries to fly in under the radar and have the
money before anyone can think about it or object.
Editor's note: According to Mr. Rainsford, a "non-profit" is going to
be chartered to begin the process of the lobbying though none has been
chartered at this time. In any regard, the simple fact that he is using
public funds makes the accounting public. I'm still having problems
understanding how government can fund a lobbyist to lobby government
with taxpayer funds.

Editor's note: Be advised, the School Board policy is that you

able to speak during the public comments portion of the meeting even
though the meeting was just announced. That policy, in my opinion,
needs to change. I'm not sure it would stand a legal challenge. The
agendas for regular meetings are not produced until the Thursday before
the meetings and one would have to have ESP in order to know on the
Tuesday prior that there is something on the agenda you would wish to

By the policy, it seems the BOE is aggressively seeking to squelch
public input at the meetings. I can see limiting the time allowed for a

the problem was, she informed me that her music teacher told the entire
class that there's no such thing as Santa Claus. Please be aware
that I pay my taxes and depend on the wonderful teachers of W.E. Parker
to guide and instruct my children in reading, writing, arithmetic and
music. And for the most part I'm totally satisfied with the
education that they're receiving. But as God as my witness, I
can't imagine what this person was thinking. What part of music
theory did this cover? Were harmony parts supposed to have been
tighter based on the fact that the children now know that Santa doesn't
exist? Wait, I know, maybe the kids were doing a blues number and
the teacher thought that she could evoke some type of emotion from the
kids once they heard the sad news.

Editor's note: As I understand it is on all rented accommodations. The
ordinance reads that it is 7% tax on the gross proceeds for short term
rentals of a room or rooms as defined by SC law. I would think that
would include a bed
and breakfast as they would be considered the same as a hotel, motel,

At least that way you have a way to get rid of them. Family court needs
a complete overhaul. The cases are closed and on one except the people
in the courtroom ever get to hear some of the shenanigans that goes on

open in GA and NC and none of the stuff that goes on inside
family court in SC went on in those states. The judges know that they
answer to the people and not the good ole boy lawyers that make up the

more I read what the general pubic thinks, I am sure that education has
drifted away from developing minds and readying youth to lead
productive lives. The things that were important are now substituted
for games. Ball of every kind is the object of schools everywhere and
also college. Our graduates cannot read is one of the problems. If you
can read, you can figure most things out but if you can't then you can
drop out or turn to crime. I see this happening everywhere. I think
punishmentof "reading a book" is the answer to some of the things
happening today. Instead of placing a student on a pedestalbecause he
can run fast or hit a ball is wrong. However if he makes it to the NFL
or whatever, his crime can be bought off or swept under the rug as with
most rich folks. This same rich ball player is not happy with himself

everyone that crosses his path except for the fat idiot sitting on the

You seem to be always looking for someone to blame. The Repubs were in
power from Jn 2001 to Jn 2007. Did they try to repeal any law that you
say caused the collapse of the home loan industry? Yes, the Clinton
Admin did help start the trend to make it easier for people to buy a
home; but, it was greed that caused many mortgage industry workers to
take advantage of this easy money. They relied on the less fortunate
and took advantage of their ignorance. Whom do you blame for your
personal failures? Is that the Dems fault also? By the way, it is
interesting that the Anchorage Daily is reporting that there will be no

The statutory rapist never agreed to marry the daughter. He was

How is somebody not gauging on the down side? People always complain
when prices go up but then when they go down and some stations keep the
price high when they can lower it, isn't that illegal too?
Editor's note: It would seem that way, but some locations may not sell
the gas they have in the ground as fast as others. Of course, there are
those who could be keeping prices high to make more money but they will
be forced to lower the prices as other businesses lower their prices
(the free market system is the best system) . People will just drive
past the store with the higher price forcing competition and the
lowering of prices. The wholesale price of gas dropped 25 cents this
week and that should be reflected at the pumps within days.
I have noted in my travels across the county that you can find gas in
Johnston in the $1.30 range while other stations remain the the $1.40's
and $1.50's range.

note: Below is not an actual news release. It was sent in by a reader
as (I assume) satire. It exceeded the word limit but I found it
humorous.
For Immediate Release -- The Americans With No Abilities
Act (AWNAA)
Washington, DC
President Barack Obama and the Democrat controlled Congress is
considering sweeping legislation that will provide new benefits for
many Americans. The Americans With No Abilities Act. AWNAA is
being hailed as a major legislative goal by advocates of the
millions of Americans who lack any real skills or ambition.
Roughly 50 percent of Americans do not possess the competence and drive
necessary to carve out a meaningful role for themselves in society,'
said California Senator Barbara Boxer. 'We can no longer stand by and
allow People of Inability to be ridiculed and passed over. With this
legislation, employers will no longer be able to grant special
favors to a small group of workers, simply because they have some idea
of what they are doing.'
In a Capitol Hill press conference, House Majority Leader Nancy
Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pointed to the success of
the U.S. Postal Service, which has a long-standing policy of providing
opportunity without regard to performance. Approximately 74
percent of postal employees lack any job skills, making this
agency the single largest U.S employer of Persons of Inability.
Private-sector industries with good records of non-discrimination
against the Inept include retail sales (72%), the airline industry
(68%), and home improvement 'warehouse' stores (65%). At the state
government level, the Department of Motor Vehicles also has an
excellent record of hiring Persons of Inability (63%).
Under The Americans With No Abilities Act, more than 25 million
'middle man' positions will be created, with important-sounding titles
but little real responsibility, thus providing an illusory sense of
purpose and performance.
Mandatory non-performance-based raises and promotions will be
given so as to guarantee upward mobility for even the most unremarkable
employees. The legislation provides substantial tax breaks to
corporations that promote a significant number of Persons of Inability
into middle-management positions, and gives a tax credit to small and
medium-sized businesses that agree to hire one clueless worker for
every two talented hires.
Finally, the AWNAA contains tough new measures to make it more
difficult to discriminate against the non-abled, banning, for example,
discriminatory interview questions such as, 'Do you have any skills or
experience that relate to this job?'
'As a Non-abled person, I can't be expected to keep up with
people who have something going for them,' said Mary Lou Gertz, who
lost her position as a lug-nut twister at the GM plant in Flint,
Michigan, due to her inability to remember 'rightey tightey,
lefty loosey.' 'This new law should be real good for people
like me,' Gertz added. With the passage of this bill, Gertz and
millions of other untalented citizens will finally see a light at the
end of the tunnel.
Said Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL): 'As a Senator with no abilities,
I believe the same privileges that elected officials enjoy ought to be
extended to every American with no abilities. It is our duty as
lawmakers to provide each and every American citizen, regardless of his
or her inadequacy, with some sort of space to take up in this great
nation and a good salary for doing so."

I'll leave it to someone else to find out what all those organizations

And another commentator on WM is correct. Until South Carolina elects
judges fairly, nothing will change. Currently, the General Assembly
"elects" most judges: Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Circuit Court
(civil / criminal), Family Court. Even Magistrates are appointed by the
Governor (with the "advise and consent" of the legislative delegation
from a particular county). That ensures that only the politically
connected are even considered for judgeships. Votes are bought and sold
for judges just like any other issue before the Assembly. And the
judicial screening process is a complete joke. Did you know that it is
the stated intent of the General Assembly to elect judges based on
"diversity" rather than "merit"?
Can you believe that our state law does not require a probate court
judge to have a law degree? These judges rule over the disposition of
billions and billions of dollars in assets every day. But at least they
are elected popularly.
The biggest problem this state has with judges starts at the top:
Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean H. ("Hit and Run x 2") Toal.

everyone was there, they called a closed door meeting, made their

just like any other “Board” in Edgefield County, not worth a (darn).
IE: County Council, Recreation Board, Water Board and several Fire
Dept. Boards. Every one of them are in it for themselves or just to
scared /dumb to do the right thing. They all talk a good talk to get
elected or placed on the board, but when it comes down to doing the
right thing, they play the good old boy game. Just my 2 cents.
Editor's note: I have a feeling there are those who have been elected
who are not going to tolerate any "Good Ole Boy" politics and remain
quiet. School Board member Chris Hoffmann has already expressed his
displeasure at the way things are being run in the school district and
a vote was taken to support his refusal to take school board pay for
serving though it was looked down upon by the majority and the
leadership of the BOE (some politicians just hate it when one actually
keep the promises made during a campaign). Rodney Ashcraft and Genia
Blackwell, recently elected to the County Council, are also not ones to
just sit back and allow things they disagree with going unchallenged.
There are also rumblings of a lawsuit to challenge the school board
district lines that assures a black majority on the school board in a
county that is majority white and the race line votes. I'm keeping a
close eye on this.

So let me guess, he was really sorry, he was just misunderstood.
Our state will never allow judges to be elected, why would our

many sitting at home unfairly and not having any ground to stand on. If
the Unions could come in here and prosper without all the hoops to jump

Editor's note: Unions have caused the problems facing the bankruptcy of
the "Big 3" auto makers and have been the driving force behind the
downfall of public education. Since the inception of teachers unions
the educational system nationwide has fallen drastically because
"unions" fight to keep incompetent teachers on the payroll. They
are also the reason the "Big 3" can't make money because they are

think the people of Edgefield need to watch the classic movie
“Pollyanna”!! So many people expend way too much energy being
negative, hateful, and full of jealously. Think of all the great
tasks that could be accomplished if even half of the negative energy
was channeled into positive projects to better the town. During
these times in America, it is easy to get discouraged and feel
disgruntled. In the movie Pollyanna, this little girl turns the
whole town around by teaching them to play the Glad Game. This
game is played by taking any sort of unpleasantness and trying to come
up with many reasons to be glad about the situation. Pollyanna
and her father created the glad game when he was a missionary and wrote
the people at home that Pollyanna would like a doll for Christmas;
however, when the package came there were crutches inside instead of a
doll because of a miscommunication. Though disappointed a first,
Pollyanna and her father were thankful that she was not in a condition
to have to use them, so she was glad. I think Edgefield needs to
play the Glad Game because there are so many wonderful things going on
in our county to be thankful for.
Let me start. Sometimes I read Wandering Minds and I am deeply

The above comment and opinion is totally false and expressed by someone
who is out of touch with reality. I have personally contacted Mr.
Massey 4 times while he served his first, abbreviated term and I heard
back from him in less than one day each time. I contacted him about the
education legislation that struck down the PACT testing; he emailed
back and told me he appreciated my input and would research the matter
and he did get back to me. He did this and voted as I had asked him to
and the legislation was approved and has been enacted. Please write
down your hunting concerns and send them into Wand Minds and I will
contact him for you. However, our state gov't has a lot more pressing
problems than hunting concerns at this time. Legislators have to
prioritize and the needs of the many sometimes outweigh the needs of
the one, that being you. As far as your child is concerned, consider
the source of the information. Children are not the best judge of
character and the apple usually does not fall far from the tree, that
being you. Ignorance is one of the prevalent character traits
transferred from parent to child.

just another in the growing list of examples, of the welfare and

it is clearly a plan to steal other people's money. That is a fact. Our

public medical university? the 1st class of physicians at the USC
School of Medicine was not until 1977. a state the size of SC does NOT
need 2 public medical universities, I believe the term is redundant. The
pharmacy programs between MUSC and USC school of medicine have recently
been combined within the past year; so it would make sense to combine
other programs as well. How much money is spent/wasted on having 2
medical schools? Since Democrats held the governors office from the
time of reconstruction to 1975 when Gov James B. Edwards was
elected, you can draw your own conclusions as to who wasted millions
and millions of tax payer dollars for another public college we DID NOT
need. How is funding 2 public medical universities fiscally
responsible? Our public colleges are raising tuition at an astounding
rate every year , some as much as 11% and yet we have 2 state supported
medical schools. WHY? its time the state corrected the political
blunder that is the USC school of medicine and trimed its budget by
eliminating the need for 2 medical schools.

On another note: Edgefield has the potential to locate loads of new

for clarification, on the silent days. It is positive
reinforcement for the kids. The games are still lively, and the
children learn more. Imagine being at work and all of your
coworkers yelling ugly, demeaning commands at you. After a short
time you would feel insulted and let down. I have heard parents
scream at children that they are useless for not hitting a ball or
kicking the ball. What does this do to the kids? Those who
think that this is a violation of your freedom of speech rights, need
to look at the rights of your children. They deserve to have the same
positive lifestyles you grew up with. It is a whole lot
harder to be mad and hostile at a game than it is to reinforce the good
things. It is healthier for both the spectator and the
player. And as the old saying goes " Don't knock it until you try
it."
In a time where we need to be more supportive of everyone and our

I've
read a couple stories that say Hillary Clinton being appointed to Sec
of State is unconstitutional and others that say it doesn't matter she
can take the job. You're pretty up on these things so I wanted to get
your take.
Editor's note: Article One, Section Six of the U.S. Constitution
says: No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for
which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the
Authority of the United States which shall have been created, or the
Emoluments (Pay) whereof shall have been increased during such time;
and no Person holding any Office under the United States, shall be a
Member of either House during his Continuance in Office.
Basically that means she cannot take the job if the salary was
increased during the current congressional term and the salary for
cabinet officials went up last year while Clinton was a Sen. (I believe
she voted for it, but I have not gone back and checked the records).
Even if the pay is lowered back down to previous levels or she accepts
lower pay than passed, constitutional scholars say that may not be
enough to fix the problem.
Then again, Obama in on record saying the Constitution is "too
restrictive" and he thinks it needs changing. Moreover, he refuses to
prove he is a native born American, another one of those "pesky
restrictions" in the Constitution. Democrats are infamous for ignoring
the Constitution or claiming it to be a "living breathing document"
that changes meaning over time.
My guess, they will ignore the Constitution and place Hillary as Sec.
of State. Afterall, "spreading the wealth around" is also
unconstitutional and they've been doing that in one form or another
since FDR and the New Deal.

America : The Era of White Guilt is over.
This seemingly impossible event occurred because the vast majority of
white Americans didn’t give a fluff about skin color, and
enthusiastically pulled the voting lever for a black man. Not just
any black man. A very liberal black man who spent his early
career race - hustling banks, praying in a racist church for 20 years,
and actively worked with America-hating domestic terrorists. Wow! Some
resume! Yet they made Barak Obama their leader. Therefore, as of Nov
4th, 2008, white guilt is dead.
For over a century, the millstone of white guilt hung around our necks,
retribution for slave-owning predecessors. In the 60s, American
liberals began yanking that millstone while sticking a fork in the eye
of black Americans, exacerbating the racial divide to extort a
socialist solution. But if a black man can become President, exactly
what significant barrier is left? The election of Barak Obama
absolutely destroys the entire validation of liberal white guilt. The
dragon is hereby slain.
So today, I’m feeling a little “uppity,” if you will. From this day
forward, my tolerance level for having my skin color hustled is now
exactly ZERO. And it’s time to clean house. No more Reverend Wright’s
“God Damn America ,” Al Sharpton’s Church of Perpetual Victimization ,
orJesse Jackson’s rainbow racism. Cornell West? You’re a fraud. Go
home. All those “black studies” programs that taught kids to hate
whitey? You must now thank Whitey. And I want that on the final.

Why are more schools receiving awards and publicity if test scores are

So
they have broke ground to start building a new Fox Creek High School.
With all the wondering minds opinion why would you build a new school
if the school not accredited for the kids to graduate.
Shouldn’t they get the administrative staff and scores high before
spending the money to get a new school? I know it can be embarrass to
go to school were they use to gamble at but that should have been
thought out before starting a school and not have a proper place
to have it.
Does that editor put this new school as a public school when it is
finish?
For those that do not know were the new grounds are Stephen Mills
Rd and Shortcut Rd just in case you want to go by and see it.
Editor's note: Although FCCHS is a "public school" it is independent of
the county school district. Yes, they have received a USDA loan and
will begin construction this month. Of course, the government was
giving loans to people who used welfare as income (Fannie Mae-Freddie
Mac) that got us in the financial meltdown we're in. And, of course,
FCCHS can't end a year in the black ink and they do not have the money
to repay the loan. They believe that if they build it then the county
school district has to take it over when they belly up. Wrong, they
will be responsible because the ECBOE can't take the debt by law.

Re:
It would be illegal for me to list how much I pay for writers anyway.
I'm sure with your vast knowledge you knew that already.
No one ask for personal information or how much you pay your so-called
employees at your sprawling conglomerate. What the people want to know
is how many you employ and what health care benefits you offer. Private
companies share this information all the time. Also, CEOs are always
willing to gloat on their education and what credentials thay have
obtained through their careers. The masses want to know if you have
ever attended any institutions post secondary. Do you have a journalism
degree? I have never challenged the truthfulness of the Headlines
articles (if it I miscommunicated this, I apologize). My concerns lie
within the analysis and opinions expressed in Letters from the Editor
and your whacko rantings in Wandering Minds. Its your paranoia and
delusional analysis that befuddles me. You have no idea who I am, but
you call me a "far left liberal". While in fact, this is the first
election in which I voted for a Dem for president. 1984 was the first
time I voted and I voted for Reagan.
A couple of years from now, we will all see that these bailouts were
set up by Paulson and Georgie Bush to make sure that all the rich execs
at these banks and financial institutions get there share when they
retire. You blame Obama, but it will be George Bush who bankrupts this
country and rapes it all of all fiscal responsibility before he leaves
office. Obama and his team of experts and financial gurus will not be
able to clean up the mess left by the Bushies. It will be years before
the US will be on the road to fiscal responsibility if we ever reach
that goal at all.

my
family was returning back to school Sunday when I received a phone call
asking for current traffic conditions for 1-26 between Orangeburg and
Charleston. THey were in stop and go traffic and wanted to know if the
problem. I searched the SC DOT web site as well as SC Highway Patrol
sites, which both supposedly list CURRENT conditions and accidents.
GUess what, not a single mention of any travel delays. The SC DOT web
site was absolutely useless, just another example of a fine use of
taxpayers dollars to provide no real time information. As a matter of
fact when I clicked on the "winter road conditions" it gives you an
error message and says the information is not available. That part of
my family heard about a major tie up at I-26 and 385 that said it was
backed up for hours and to find an alternate route. again, I checked
the sites and nothing. not a mention, I couldn't even find a local TV
station in those areas with any information. I guess they use the same
sites for their information as well. It does solve a dilemma for me,
now I know to get each of them a GPS for their car so I don't have to
depend on SC DOT to be up to date.
Editor's note: You expected government to provide you a better service
than the private sector?

These are the same people that want to run your personal health care.
Aren't you ecstatic about the possibility? Ask a veteran how they feel
about their "government run health care" and multiply that by three
hundred million.

We have over 10,000 students, and only recently hired as public

let good teachers go, why not look at cutting back or eliminating the
public relations administrator. How much does he/she make? Could that
possibly save a classroom teacher? District 6 is 3 times the size of

Mr.
Editor, I liked your answer to the "silent" stands or night or whatever
it was called where people could only say positive things at a ball
game. I quote YOU: "I
am not taking sides, but I am a strong supporter of
the 1st Amendment to our Constitution assuring freedom of speech. I am
not very comfortable with a government body telling anyone what they
can or cannot say." All I got to say is Amen to that!
I go to the county council meetings now and then and wonder if you have
ever seen the note on the door that says "no signs". Isn't that
"silent" and how can they say you can't have signs?
Editor's note: I doubt the Edgefield County Council could legally
enforce their self imposed restriction on hand held signs. Such is
protected under the First Amendment and has been upheld by the US
Supreme Court (SCOTUS). There is no county ordinance, or state law,
preventing a resident from using signs and if one was proposed it would
be met with a legal challenge and would most likely be withdrawn by the
county. EdgefieldDaily.com would fund the legal challenge to any such
ordinance in court.

The
purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense,
waiting for an attack. The sword is more important than the shield, and
skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All
else is supplemental.
1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll
just kill you.
2 If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.
3 I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.
4 When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.
5 A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The
reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and
asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they
don't make a 46.'
6. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented
on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are
you expecting trouble?' 'No Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would
have brought my shotgun.'
7. Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE
IT!!!
But wait, there's more!
I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house. I said
I did. She said 'Well I certainly hope it isn't loaded!' To which I
said, 'Of course it is loaded -- can't work without bullets!' She then
ask ed, 'Are you that afraid of someone evil coming into your house?'
My reply was, 'No, not at all. I am not afraid of the house catching
fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all
loaded, too.' To which I'll add, having a gun in the house that isn't
loaded is like having a car in the garage without gas in the tank.
