A friend told me that they have arrested somebody for robbing the guy that got run over. I haven't seen anything about this in the news. Do you know if this is true? Is it rumor or just not reported?

Editor's note: I have received similar emails and calls. To my knowledge, no arrests have been made or charges filed in the accidental death of Lewis McKinney. Until then, I would chalk this up to rumor. However, officials are not sure why he was laying in the roadway when he was struck by a passing motorist. Results from toxicology reports are still pending.

I thought of a new slogan for Edgefield Daily. instead of "Edgefield County as it Happens" maybe you should adopt "News now rather than next week!" I get my news from Edgefield Daily and the other (stuff) from the local papers. The only good thing about them is I can use them to start my fireplace when it's cold.

As a Christian who is not from SC and only recently arrived here (one of those dreaded Yankees), I found the Bible belt survey results a little amusing.  Maybe I have missed something, but I always thought actions spoke louder than words. The actions and goings on in Edgefield (now and historically)  are either independent of the rest of SC, or this survey only shows the words of the people in SC and not their actions.   I see a lot of contradictions in the lives of "Christians" here. I am not trying to be anyone's judge,  but again,  actions and behaviors speak a whole lot louder than words. It makes one wonder if the Bible belt thing is more of a culture thing and not a true faith thing. Just an observation by an outsider.

How Obama can stand in front of the people of this country and say that there was an intelligence lapse that allowed this terrorist on board an aircraft is the height of hypocrisy. He declared that there 
is no war on terror, then decided to prosecute the very people that are trying to keep us safe, the CIA. By sheer luck, we are not burying a plane load of people. This two-faced liar of a "President" will 
surely use this "crisis" to grab more power and expand the Federal government. While George Bush was lacking in many areas, the world and the terrorists knew that we would not stand by slack-jawed and allow attacks on our citizens. Obama with his Muslim sympathies refuses to call Islamic extremists terrorists. This tie-less, unpresidential looking scoundrel has weakened our defenses, shown sympathy to the very people who would destroy us and opened the door for new attacks 
on our country. This is the change we should have counted on.

I would like to thank all the police officer's that responded when Fran's Korner was in need of them. I am very happy that my employee was not harmed and she acted in such a way that i was very proud of her, but as i told her no money is worth her life or health. I would also like to thank all the customer's for there concern and love they have shown. Again thank you to all the police officer's that came, you are all in my prayers for safety.

just read Edgefield County Councilman offers “Animal Protection” ordinance for consideration
http://www.edgefielddaily.com/council122309.html.... this is a wonderful ordinance... especially the section to give law enforcement, acting in the capacity of animal control, to immediately enter upon
property and seize an animal with or without owner’s consent or presence if the animal falls under the protections of the ill treatments as defined in state law and those of the proposed ordinance. In my opinion, animal abusers are the lowest of the low, right in there with those who abuse children and the elderly. If DSS can remove the children and elderly from harms way while the investigation is ongoing, i see NO reason why animal control should not have similar powers. I will await with interest the outcome of this ordinance.

When a black man is suspected of breaking into a house, and acts disrespectfully to a white police officer, who was dispatched to the suspected break in. The President says "the officer acted stupidly." However, when a Muslim man murders thirteen soldiers in cold blood, while heard shouting in Arabic "Ali Akbar"(Allah is great). The President  says "Let us not rush to judgment" I wonder if the murdering major will be invited to the White house for a beer.

Editor's note: The bigger problem is the Obama Administration is treating this as a criminal act, not an act of war by the enemy we are currently engaged with in warfare. This should be a Military matter, not something that provides either terrorist (Christmas bomber or Hassan) with Constitutional rights they do not have nor deserve. Maj. Hassan lost his rights when he became an enemy combatant and a traitor (there are more than three witnesses to his acts). In WWll he would have already been shot by a firing squad.

For those who don't know about history; here is a condensed version:

Humans originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunters/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer and would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in the winter.

The two most important events in all of history were the invention of beer and the invention of the wheel. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer. These were the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups:

1. Liberals and
2. Conservatives.

Once beer was discovered, it required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can was invented yet, so while our early humans were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed.

Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to B-B-Q at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the Conservative movement.

Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly B-B-Q's and doing the sewing, fetching, and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal movement.

Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women. The rest became known as girlie-men. Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy, group hugs, and the concept of Democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that conservatives provided.

Over the years conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals are symbolized by the jackass.

Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food is standard liberal fare. Another interesting evolutionary side note: most liberal women have higher testosterone levels than their men. Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberals invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn't fair to make the pitcher also bat.

Conservatives drink domestic beer, mostly Bud. They eat red meat and still provide for their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police officers, corporate executives, athletes, members of the military, airline pilots and generally anyone who works productively. Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.

Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to govern the producers and decide what to do with the production. Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most of the liberals remained in Europe when conservatives were coming to America. They crept in after the Wild West was tamed and created a business of trying to get more for nothing.

Here ends today's lesson in world history.

I keep hearing all kinds of stories about the guy that got run over last week (on Ridge Road). Tv news says he was walking down the road, others say he was in the road, the (Edgefield) Daily says he was layin in the road. Who's right?

Mr. McKinney was laying in the road prior to being struck by a passing motorist. He was not walking nor upright when he was struck by the car according to the driver, a witness, and the Coroner's Office.

100% of recent air terror attempt have been by muslims.  Yet, we're so politically correct we are afraid to upset our dear muslim friends by adding a layer of security at airports by screening muslims 
traveling to the US.  The Christmas wannabe bomber's daddy even warned US officials that his lad was in league with al qaida, but that was ignored as a result of Obama's outreach program to peaceful 
muslims like himself.

I'm sick of it.  We need to profile them severely.  We need dogs to surround them when they enter our airports - trained pigs would be even better.  Squads of undercover Jewish agents should accompany 
them wherever they go- even to the bathroom.

We interred the entire Japanese population in World War II without a whisper of protest.  Zero acts of sabotage was the result.  It's time to take our country back from the snivelling cowards that bow down to despots and terrorists.  We're at war with radical muslims.  Let's start acting like we want to win.  They want to kill us all so let's make it as unpleasant as possible for them to try by making their 
travel attempts a gauntlet.

Since Christmas is over and now the joyous season of Kwanzaa is beginning....perhaps one should reflect upon what a joke this event is (I won't even call it a holiday) ....and to many a person's surprise....who the founder was.  Recently, I asked my kids if they knew about Kwanzaa (they did), but then I asked them if they knew who founded it...and they replied, "some black college professor."  I told them, "No, it was a convicted felon [though he did some college teaching]"
      
The following is what has been reported on Ron Karenga, a convicted felon, black panther, misogynist, and sick SOB who tortured and beat women....

"In 1971, Karenga, Louis Smith, and Luz Maria Tamayo were convicted of felony assault and false imprisonment for assaulting and torturing over a two day period two women from the US Organization, Deborah Jones and Gail Davis.[7] An article in the Los Angeles Times described the testimony of one of the women: "Deborah Jones, who once was given the title of an African queen, said she and Gail Davis were whipped with an electrical cord and beaten with a karate baton after being ordered to remove their clothes. She testified that a hot soldering iron was placed in Miss Davis' mouth and placed against Miss Davis' face and that one of her own big toes was tightened in a vise. Karenga, head of US, also put detergent and running hoses in their mouths, she said."

I personally would ask you to think about those who leave their families to work as 911 dispatchers, Sheriff's Deputies, the local Police Departments, the jail, EMS, Firefighters, and First Responders. All of which were called upon on Christmas day. Be mindful to thank them for their selfless contribution to our service.

I noticed in this weeks issue of the Citizen News a photo of our so called chief of police  of Johnston and his son with a deer that was shot. The caption above the photo says, "Evening hunt snags 8 pointer." Isn't night hunting illegal or are members of law enforcement allowed to do what they want?

Yeah one can equate the Edgefield Advertiser with those rags like the New York Times, the Boston Globe, the Chicago Tribune, etc.  They don't report substance, just their agenda.  And they all have someone behind the scenes that uses them as a propaganda machine-and we all know who in Edgefield pulls the strings of the Advertiser-wink, wink.

However, if you look past the typical garbage, you can always find some use for such a dismal product.  The use for the Edgefield Advertiser is watch who's in that paper, what stories are in that paper, and you'll find their true political leaning.  Take for instance Andy Livingston-splashed on the front page with a big photo and ebbyting for his mayoral candidacy.  Yeah, he was also featured in the Edgefield Daily, but I'll bet that was not his first choice.  Liberal rags favor liberals.  Not only do we need to change the political composite of our country by getting these liberals out of office-we also need to shut down their liberal propaganda machines.  So, next time you vote-vote to oust a Democrat (Liberal), and do one better-don't buy the Edgefield Advertiser.  This country needs a liberal cleansing.

A little comment concerning wasting money on local papers. I too was in need of wasting a few moments while waiting for food the other day and after I wasted my money to purchase the Citizen and Edgefield Advertiser I was once again reminded why I receive my news from your online source. It is apparent that neither paper has any idea of what news is. There was nothing of interest in either and I completed my financial blunder in a matter of minutes. Not hard to flip through a few pages in under a minute when there is nothing to read.
 
Thanks for your source of news. Without this venue I would be an aimless idiot like so many others walking around without a clue as to what the elite's are up to.

I just read the article concerning animal protection being brought before the council and it is not a bad idea really. I just wish property owners had more protection from others domestic animals. We were highly disturbed last night to hear dogs running game and shots fired on our well posted property and not far from our home. Coon hunters and their dogs? Maybe. I hope they discontinue their trespassing and game running immediately, avoid the loss of their animals and avoid what could be potentially nasty conflicts with concerned and irate property owners.

People like these on our property last night (trespassers, illegal hunting, etc…) are the primary cause of the negative views of hunters and hunting today, even among those like myself that occasionally hunt. They are also helping the cause of those wanting to limit gun ownership in this country. If that is the objective of these jerks it is working.

If you know these idiots please get the word to them. Maybe read them this post. They obviously cannot read or they would have seen the Property Watch signs everywhere. Then again shouldn’t they have known that they were not hunting on their property!?

Signed one more guy that is (reluctantly) starting to understand the anti-hunter, anti-gun groups.

The EBT police has reared their ugly head. How do you know the person in the new truck was purchasing groceries for themself? do you know their situation?  How do you know if those groceries were for them or if they are a purchasing the grocieries for a house bound individual? You dont!  you just ASSUME they are not worthy of food stamps. maybe they borrowed a vehicle to go to the grocery store or just lost their job. Why must we  continue to think the worst of people? To please the holier than though crowd, I will let my daughter know she can no longer go grocery shopping for her housebound father-in-law .Apparently her car is to nice to transport groceries purchased wiht an EBT card. the EBT police said so.

Oh yeah, this is good.  Good thing Andy isn't running for Mayor of Edgefield.  I was torn as to whether or not to comment because we actually need to get the deadwood out of Edgefield politics, to include those on the school board.  Andy has sat in that seat for 17 years, and what can he show us he has done?  Andy's been a member of the development group for Johnston since 1982-and look at Johnston today-a vast metropolis teeming with prosperity, jobs, and progress.  Yeah you can have Andy all right.  We'll gladly let him go from the school district after 17 years of nothingness.  We'll be glad to throw him on the ash heap of political hacks that has his hand out.  You see, ole Andy doesn't like his minority status on the Board now, so now he wants out.  Allegedly he always did it for the children, for the community-but now he won't even stand up and fight for what is right, he just casts his vote and watches the school district fall prey to a systematic installment of failure.  Yeah, Andy has served us well.  Now he wants to turn tail and run.  But did you notice one thing-he still runs to the government feeding trough.  If he won't stand up for what is right on the school board, what makes you think he'll stand up for the citizens of Johnston as Mayor?  You talk about a yes man-Johnston will get one in Andy-and whoever is running Johnston behind the scenes like Edgefield-they'll have the perfect puppet.  How's that Hope and Change working out for ya?  We HOPE y'all elect Andy as the Mayor of Johnston, so we can continue to CHANGE the political landscape in Edgefield. Go Andy go.

Editor's post: So Obama and the Democrats are pushing their unpopular takeover of health care (control over everyone's lives) and his poll numbers reflect that disapproval. He has now surpassed every president in history for having the lowest poll numbers by the end of his first year in office. He has also spent more money than all presidents in history combined and increased the deficit spending to a level even the world states can't be maintained. And that does not include the cost of his socialized health care plan.

Change you can believe in... absolutely. Obama and the Democrats seem dead set on bankrupting the United States in an concerted effort to create a socialist government by proxy. I guess this information is one more reason the Edgefield County School District is blocking the Wandering Minds. We can't have school children exposed to reality and truth about a Marxist president who is killing our country because it does not fit the political mold they wish to present to students or citizens (who should not voice their opinions). Such information is not "educational" in their view. Control is all they care about, just as the Democrat leaders they fawn over.

I've got to get something off my chest...the same government that wants to run healthcare is also the one that distributes EBT funds aka food stamps.  In the past two weeks, I've been in line at the grocery store and one EBT recipient buys all their groceries on the card and then gets into a brand new pick up truck that's fancier than mine!  Another recipient buys their groceries with the card and then purchases $12 of menthol cigarettes with money out of their pocket.  Problem is, most, if not all, liberals think this is OK and that the "underpriveleged" person deserves everything they can get.  Why do we keep voting the same folks into office?  Please, folks...let's get the lawyers and career politicians out of our government and vote good, common folks in.  And while I'm on my soapbox--that lever-thingy on the side of the car's steering column is a TURN SIGNAL.  It's used to let everybody know you are going to make a turn.  Learn how to use it!  Yall have a Merry Christmas.

After reading the Edgefield Advertiser today I see that the Edgefield County School Board has voted Dr. Mary Rice-Crenshaw a three year extension on her contract.  It was reported that the vote was unanimous.  Wait a minute - hold the presses.  How can that be?  You have three board members who claim to their voters that they want her gone because she is not what is best for our county.  Andy, Brad, and Jeff, start practicing what you are preaching.  In other words, quit your wining (removed).

Editor, I noticed a recent post of mine was edited. The word Negro had been removed. Was this on purpose? The word was not intended as any type of insult. I was not aware that the word had been added to the list of words that we could no longer use - unless of course we were black!

We have given away Johnston to blacks and mexicans. They can stand anywhere in town they want and drink alcohol in public without regard to any laws in the town. Our mayor is a joke, the council is a joke. They put together a development board that is not funded and all they can say for the past few years is a sidewalk that is useless. What more needs to be said. I know that I am not one of the good ole boys, or in spanish "familia", but this is a shame when the blacks can walk  down the middle of the streets obstructing traffic and no one cares. When the mexicans are housed in a wharehouse with no heat on main street and no one cares. I am beginning to believe that no one gives a (darn) about anything in this rat hole of a town. We have people who are selling black market goods on Edisto street and the "Detective" of Johnston has been seen sitting in the parking lot talking to the owner of the business and all I can get from the law is that it is a federal matter not a city or state. I guess that I should be able to sell marijuana without being concerned with retaliation from the law.

So a group of  illegals  were involved in a wreck and they were towing a cement mixer lost control while returning one of the workers to his home. this means someone is employing the group of illegals, i thought we had a new state law that was directed specifically at keeping employers from hiring illegals? Heres the kicker to all of that . did you know that the driver is entitled to a free attorney through the sc indigent defense fund? more tax payer dollars being wasted on somone who should be deported.   immediately .Instead are they entitled to  a paid attorney,  not to mention we are forced to provide and pay for an interpreter. and anything else they need  to defend the charges. what a waste of our state money.

I would like for someone to tell me that the news that they are reporting about our President is based on facts or just plain bias news reports. I watch CNN, Nancy Grace and plenty other news sources, and I just can't figure out why there is so much hate. Half white and half black there is no such human. A drop of African American DNA makes you an African American. Anyway why should a person be condemned by their race. We have come through that era (WHICH WAS BAD, TERRIBLE ), and I promise I don't care whether a black, blue, green,Mexican or white become president, I will not ever become a victim of any type of slavery ever again.  People choose the preference that they want to, not just because a master raped his slave and the girl or woman became pregnant. I just checked out (and Joined) an organization dedicated to changing everyone in Congress.  Their website is www.GOOOH.com which stands for Get Out of Our House.   I have been watching the CSPAN coverage of Senate Health Care Deliberations and it has been outrageous.  I do think "institutional knowledge" is somewhat important, but not as important as getting rid of special interests, lobbyists, earmarks, special congressional raises, insurance, powerful committee chairpersons, travel junkets, etc,etc.   I recommend you check out the website.

This is just a question for you. There was an article in Wandering Minds (the other day) that states that Obama is a citizen of the U.S. and Kenya. I didn't know that his mother was a minor, could you tell me how old she was? Do you know how old she was when she died?

Editor's note: According to countless reports, she was 17 when she delivered (too young to convey citizenship by law). Which meant she was 16 at conception by a Kenyan citizen (therefore a citizen of Britain at the time). Obama has claimed to have been born in two different hospitals in Hawaii, and the address printed in the local papers at the time were occupied by someone other than his mother or father. There is also no official record of a wedding.

Is Obama a citizen? I have no idea. He refuses to release any and all information that would prove he is, or is not, a true citizen. His mother died November 7, 1995, at the age of 52.

Couple of things eating at me:

- I Drive Sweewater at roughly 52 or 53mph, which is my normal speed in the 50 zone, and I get tailgated HARD quite frequently.  Too hard to even think of tapping on my brakes.  Seriously hope a deer does not pop out since I am sure I will end up punted into the ditch.  Twice while being tailgated recently I have encountered a DMV trooper or Edgefield's finest coming at me.  Hot dog!  I pop my brights a few times, sure that the officer will see my predicament and give someone a much-needed
ticket.  Nope.  They just keep going the opposite direction, without even a wave.  What?

- Leaving work at approximately 3:45pm, driving Mays Way and then Sweetwater, I get tailgated by the same white Chevrolet Impala, emblazoned with Mount Vintage Security on the side.  This fine individual is determined to pass everyone in his sight, only to hold us up as he turns left into the main entrance to Mount Vintage.  What a jerk.

- Other than that, hope everyone has a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

I have been in touch with the School District Attorney Greg Anderson on this matter as well as some school officials in an effort to keep this situation from expanding into another realm.

I have been given copies of the internet use policy approved by the district and find no legal grounds upon which the school district can make its arbitrary decision to block one comment section of an internet news provider over another.

I have made it known that as founder of EdgefieldDaily.com, and on behalf of all our contributors, writers, and comments from the public, that I will defend the full access to EdgefieldDaily.com at all costs.

The first and fourteenth amendments do not end at the classroom door.

At the same meeting they were informed they were going to be cut 4% (total budget) as a result of lower than expected tax revenues collected by the state this year. That will be the starting point of cuts for next year on even lower revenue expectations.

Do they really want to venture into legal issues revealing their political bias?

What kind of fools have the American’s who support Obama become? What kind of cowards are reporting the news these days? Latest point in fact is the situation with Guantanamo and the alleged terrorists held there. Obama supporters, the Democrats and apparently the press as well want to pat Obama on the back for moving towards shutting down the Guantanamo detention facility. Really what difference does it make if it is shut down? The same alleged terrorists will be held in another detention facility somewhere else. The circus surrounding these detainees has not been resolved by moving them. Why doesn’t the press call Obama and his supporters out on this. These individuals should be tried (yesterday) and punished if guilty, otherwise put them back out where they came from.

The Nobel Peace Prize? From this point on in history it is joke.

Obama also campaigned on ending our overseas conflicts. What has happened? He is sending more troops! It is an outrage that more young men and women will die as a result of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. We never should have went to Iraq and we could have punished the Taliban for 9/11 without putting a single soldier on the ground.

Where are those “courageous” hero reporters that want to conscientiously ensure that the truth is told? What kind of person other than those self interested could turn a blind eye to the real truth? Have white Americans become that afraid to speak against anything associated with ?

I have come to believe that 33 1/3% of Obama’s’ support comes from liberal self interest groups. Another 33 1/3% comes from racism - and no, it’s not just a white thing! meaning some blacks believe that anything black is OK. The final 33 1/3% comes from white Americans who have been brainwashed into believing that they cannot criticize anything black. If they do they must be racist!

By the way, I have one more question that has never been addressed by anyone. Why has Obama now come to be considered black? Wasn’t his mother white? He is consistently called a black president. I don’t mind the black part, does someone else mind the white part. I guess his ride wouldn’t go as well if he were considered less black would it?

Finally the key to racial harmony one day will be that we all truly and absolutely recognize that we are truly created equal and that someone other than “whitey” is willing to call the kettle black!

It does not surprise me that Johnston would not spend money on advertising or advancement of tourism (but how are those sidewalks working out for us?). I have often wondered how effective a business development committee could possibly be if it is not funded, but, that is the least of our problems. The town has several lots where there are posted signs that state that the property is under the jurisdiction of the police department and at any time of the day you will find crowds of people standing around or sitting beside the buildings drinking alcohol and nothing is ever done or worse than that standing in front of a sign which states "No Loitering" right next to a liquor store and yet people stand there all day long drinking and once again, nothing is done. Don't bother wasting any money advertising for tourism because we should be embarrassed to have anyone come here and see the lack of dignity that walks around without consequences.
It is hard to even walk into some of the convenience stores without having someone begging for money so they can go to the liquor store. Most of the time, you can't even drive down the road without having people walking down the middle of the street or just standing in the middle of the street talking to someone who is usually a block away - isn't that why we put those sidewalks in? Until the police can clean up the streets we shouldn't waste any money drawing attention to the disgrace in our town.

Editor's post: Obama opens his mouth to push his plans and the polls numbers keep falling, now to the lowest point ever (43%, but only 26% "strongly approve). Hey Obama, keep on talking! It is as if he is trying to limbo to the lowest approval rating ever. Even Bush has 86% approval at the same time in office as Obama. It took him six years to get to where Obama is now.  Don't forget, when the Democrats took over Congress, the approval rating for them dropped into single digits. Yet these are the people that expect us to give up freedoms because they know what is good for us?

Are they serious? Yes, they are. They are on the verge  of telling you what you have to do as soon as you are born. Buy insurance. Not just any or some kind of insurance, but insurance "they" demand you buy. You're too stupid to figure out what you need, so they will decide that for you too. 56% of the people are against the plans, but Obama, Pelosi, and Reid don't care. Medicare is already in the tank to the tune of over $30 Trillion (with a T mind you) of unfunded mandates, and that is their "model" so far?

And while I am on a roll, this whole "health care is a right" thing is the dumbest claim I've ever heard. We have a Bill of Rights, read them, health care is not in there. A "Right" does not cost me anything. It is free. But Obama and the Democrats want to impose a fee laid upon your head at the time of birth in the form of insurance payments mandated by the Federal Government?

At what point does a rational person turn irrational and see this as a good thing? If the ignorance of the Democrat Party, some Republicans, and the Obama administration was gold, we could sell it to the world and no one in America would even have to work again.

God help us, because no one in Washington DC is going to.

Why isn't G.L.Brightharp in [trouble]? I guess all of the law enforcement an judicial system is scared of him. He an his cult members have taken control of the church. Two of the members have gone an mortgage the church for a half million dollars. They said that was not true. Check court records. The church is still under court order . Brightharp has refused to reenstate the four men that he an his cult put out of the church. Now they have tried to put their wives out of the church. It is time for somebody to go public about this matter. Personally I think that it is time for the news media to get involved an maybe something will get done.

I would like to respond. This is not a black or white issue. This is about what he is doing to The United States of America. He is trying to take way all our rights. He owns most of the news media, there is no such thing as freedom of the press they can't question anything Obama does or make a truthful commit. I hope you are very rich and can afford health insurance because if you are not you are going to pay large fines and/or go the prison for 5 years. He doesn't want to be the President of the United States he wants to be a dictator. If we continue to ignore what he is doing we will no longer have any rights, we will no longer live in the land of the free that so many American soldiers have fought and died for both black and white. I am not going to sit back and say nothing and if all you can say is that we hate him because he is black then you need to wake up and look at what is really going on. If you really think about it he is not black or white, he is both. His mother was white and father black and raised by his white grandparents. His skin may be dark but that does not make him black. There are a lot of dark skin people but that doesn't make them black. Native American Indians have dark skin but they are not black. So let this black and white issue go and lets just stick to the facts that he has been a president for a year and he is not the best president we have ever had unless you are only a year old and you do not have anyone else to compare him to. I am 56 years old and I would say on a scale of 1-10 he is a 1. Because I haven't seen anything he has done that he said he would. He has done just the opposite.

While Edgefield County and South Carolina still struggle with H1N1 Flu vaccine supplies; Georgia, over a week ago, released Flu vaccines to be given to anybody.  Even the grocery store pharmacies in Augusta are giving it.  Publix pharmacies charge $15.00 for administration.  I haven't personally checked other providers, but there seems to be, and has been for some time, a reasonable supply across the river.
 
Why has South Carolina failed us, once again.  No explanation, no rationale, no communication.  We can't get it and Georgia is already providing it to non-government providers.  I wonder how many other states are this far ahead of us.  South Carolina is, as usual, at the back end of the wagon train, pushing the south-end of a north-bound mule.  This might be funny if people weren't dying.

The U. S. Geological Service issued a report in April ('08) that only scientists and oil men knew was coming, but man was it big. It was a revised report (hadn't been updated since '95) on how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota, western South Dakota, and extreme eastern Montana ..... check THIS out:

The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska's Prudhoe Bay, and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign oil. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at 503 billion barrels. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable... at $107 a barrel, we're looking at a resource base worth more than $5.3 trillion.

'When I first briefed legislators on this, you could practically see their jaws hit the floor. They had no idea.' says Terry Johnson, the Montana Legislature's financial analyst.

'This sizable find is now the highest-producing onshore oil field found in the past 56 years' reports, The Pittsburgh Post Gazette. It's a formation known as the Williston Basin, but is more commonly referred to as the 'Bakken.' And it stretches from Northern Montana, through North Dakota and into Canada. For years, U. S. oil exploration has been considered a dead end. Even the 'Big Oil' companies gave up searching for major oil wells decades ago. However, a recent technological breakthrough has opened up the Bakken's massive reserves.... and we now have access of up to 500 billion barrels. And because this is light, sweet oil, those billions of barrels will cost Americans just $16 PER BARREL!

1. That's enough crude to fully fuel the American economy for 2041 years straight.

2. And if THAT didn't throw you on the floor, then this next one should - because it's from TWO YEARS AGO!
They reported this stunning news: We have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth. Here are the official estimates:

8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia

18-times as much oil as Iraq

21-times as much oil as Kuwait

22-times as much oil as Iran

500-times as much oil as Yemen

and it's all right here in the Western United States .

This is something everyone should watch. I can’t stand Glen Beck but he’s got it right on this show and I’m a Dem saying it. I voted for President Obama and support a lot of what he’s doing but I do not support a one payer system of healthcare. This is wrong and no one from our side it standing up and saying it. About the CHRISTMAS TREE: Just wanted to say thank you for posting this, It it nice that you  allow such a discussion. There are many kinds of truth. Al Gore was hit by an inconvenient one yesterday.

The former vice president, who became an unlikely figurehead for the green movement after narrating the Oscar-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," became entangled in a new climate change row.

Gore, speaking at the Copenhagen climate change summit, stated the LATEST RESEARCH showed that the Arctic could be completely ice-free in five years.

In his speech, Gore told the conference: "These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr. Wieslav Maslowski that there is a 75 percent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years."

However, the climatologist whose work Gore was relying upon dropped the former vice president in the water with an icy blast.

"It's unclear to me how this figure was arrived at," Dr. Maslowski said. "I would never try to estimate likelihood at anything as exact as this."

Gore's office later admitted that the 75 percent figure was one used by Dr. Maslowski as a "ballpark figure"  SEVERAL YEARS AGO in a conversation with Gore.

The embarrassing error cast another shadow over the conference after the controversy over the hacked e-mails from the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit, which appeared to suggest that scientists had manipulated data to strengthen their argument that human activities were causing global warming.

Regarding the ongoing court case involving George L. Brightharp, (Mt. Canaan Baptist Church) and the four ousted members.  I have some questions to ask ... has George L. Brightharp paid off the judges too?  How is it that any citizen involved in an ongoing court case continuously refuse to follow a judge's court order?  Not only has he on two occasions refused to do what Judge R. Knox McMahon has asked him to do but also the judge that presided over the case before him.  This situation  is sickening to the stomach.  George Brightharp and the judges too should be locked up.  This is a cancerous situation that has far reaching effects.  If it is not corrected it is going to spread throughout the county.  In fact it is the opinion of many that know the  supporters of G.L. Brightharp realize that they are already infiltrated with corrupt elected county officials.  Enough is enough, bring this hate filled self-serving group of folks to justice or we all will suffer in the long run.

Editor's note: Rev. Brightharp has already been found to be in contempt of the ruling once and was fined $1,000, if memorey serves. I'm curious to see what come next.

It is no accident that once every year every human being in the world is confronted with the fact that the Son of God assumed human flesh and came into the world to save men. Certainly, no one can think that it is wrong for believers, during this season of the year, to express thanks and praise to God for his unspeakable gift, the Lord Jesus Christ. It is never wrong, but always right to think of Him, speak of Him, and sing His praise. Merry Christmas!

Here's the answer to the Christmas tree guy! Question: "Should we have a Christmas Tree? Does the Christmas Tree have its origin in ancient pagan rituals?"

Answer: The modern custom of a Christmas tree does not come from any form of paganism. There is no evidence of any pagan religion decorating a special holiday tree for their mid-winter festivals, although the Romans celebrated the winter solstice with a festival called Saturnalia in honor of Saturnus, the god of agriculture. They decorated their houses with greens and lights and exchanged gifts. Late in the Middle Ages, Germans and Scandinavians placed evergreen trees inside their homes or just outside their doors to show their hope in the forthcoming spring. The first Christmas tree was decorated by Protestant Christians in 16th-century Germany. Our modern Christmas tree evolved from these early German traditions, and the custom most likely came to the United States with Hessian troops during the American Revolution, or with German immigrants to Pennsylvania and Ohio.

There is nothing in the Bible that either commands or prohibits Christmas trees. It has been falsely claimed by some that Jeremiah 10:1-16 prohibits the cutting down and decorating of trees in the same manner as we do at Christmas. However, even a cursory reading of the text makes it clear that the passage is one in which Jeremiah sets forth the prohibition against idols made of wood, plated with silver and gold, and worshipped. A similar idea appears in Isaiah 44, where Isaiah speaks of the silliness of the idol-worshippers who cut down a tree, burn part of it in the fire to warm themselves, and use the other part to fashion an idol, which they then bow down to. So unless we bow down before our Christmas tree, carve it into an idol, and pray to it, these passages cannot be applied to Christmas trees.

There is no spiritual significance to having or not having a Christmas tree. Whatever choice we make, the motive behind a believer’s decision about this, as in all matters of conscience, must be to please the Lord. Romans 14:5-6a sets out the principle in a passage about liberty: “One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord.” The Lord is grieved when Christians look down upon one another for either celebrating or not celebrating Christmas. This is spiritual pride. When we feel that somehow we have achieved a higher plain of spirituality by doing or not doing something about which the Bible is silent, we misuse our freedom in Christ, create divisions within His body, and thereby dishonor the Lord. “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).

The Free Flow of Information Act passed through the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday by a vote of 14-6, a measure that gives unprecedented protections to media outlets that leak classified information, like, say, the NSA's terrorist surveillance program revealed by the New York Times or the CIA's secret terrorist jails revealed by the Washington Post.  It also for the first time places some national security decisions under the purview of a federal judge.Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, again raised red flags about the so-called media shield law, warning that Democrats voted down in committee amendments specifically designed to protect our troops.
 
"As our troops prepare for a surge in Afghanistan, the majority blocked an amendment to protect the secrecy of troop movements and battle plans," Sessions said.  "The rejection of these and other amendments recklessly imperils the security of our citizens and our soldiers, and leaves in place a bill that is deeply and fundamentally flawed."
 
"This legislation will, for the first time in the history of our country, give a federal court privilege to those involved in the criminal leaking of classified information," Sessions warned.  "It is an unprecedented measure that will further hamstring the government's ability to keep its most vital operations confidential -- even when the lives of innocent Americans are at stake."
 
Top security and intelligence experts oppose the measure, including former Attorney General Mike Mukasey, Former CIA and NSA Director General Michael Hayden, as well President Obama's own FBI Director and Secretary of Defense.

At the dedication of the National Cemetery honoring those who died in the civil war Abraham Lincoln said We here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain - that this nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom - and that government of the people, by the people shal not perish from the earth.
 
Obama has compared himself to Abraham Lincoln, but it appears that he is now treading on his grave and trying his best to destroy what he and this nation fought for.
 
He is trying to trample out any exsistance of government for the people and by the people. Instead he is trying to replace it for government of the people period.
 
He is using his charismatic charm and wiles to fool us into thinking that he is doing what is best for all by equalizing the playing field and making the wealthy share it with the less fortunate. I believe you should help your fellow man. That is always what we've done in the past. We all rolled up our collective sleeves and did what was needed to correct whatever was thrown our way. Every one did their job.
 
Today the government is wanting to create a welfare state, or rather a welfare nation where every is standing in line for their "fair share".
 
Companies and the people are going to want to do less to try to build their businesses if they are expected to be taxed out of a profit in the name of welfare. Young people today are being conditioned not to strive to do more to succeed. instead they are shown how to use the system to get more for themselves by doing less to earn it.
 
I am not that old, only 58. I was taught that if you wanted something, you worked for it. I was taught that if you wanted anything in this world it was yours if you had the gumption and willingness to earn it. Todays generation does not want to expend any more energy than necessary in order to survive. Not that they are lazy, its because they are offered a free ride.
 
I don't begrudge the wealthy if the earn it. The majority did it to help themselves and created a lot of opportunities for others as well. My hat is off to them. I do begrudge the lazy ones who make a living on welfare programs that were intended to be used by people who were less fortunate and honestly needed it.
 
Obama is very methodically destroying our free enterprise system of our nation, and will soon bankrupt our nation to the point that we cannot afford to defend ourselves much less help other nations on a world wide scale.
 
Regan ended the cold war by bankrupting Russia. Who is orchestrating what is going on in our country for Obama?
 
I honestly do not for the life of me understand when so many people see what is going on and do nothing about it. I don't think that many people out there are afraid to speak out. I just don't know amongst all or our elected governors , congress and repersentatives has what it takes to say enough is enough an stop what is going on today and fix the problem.
 
You cannot borrow yourelf out of debt, and if this is Obamas plan then we need someone else running our country. Someone who is not afraid to ask his fellow countrymen and women for help.
 
We don't need another bail out that we will never be able to repay. We do need the brains of this country to come together with a plan that makes sense and is fair to all.

Your Social Security

Just in case some  of you young whippersnappers (& some older  ones) didn't know this. It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it.  Be sure and show  it to your kids. They need a little history  lesson on what's what and it doesn't matter  whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts!!!
 
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat,  introduced the Social Security (FICA)  Program. He promised:
 
1.) That  participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,  It is no longer  voluntary.

2.) That  the participants would only have to pay 1%  of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into   the Program,  Now you pay 7.65% on the  first $90,000 and if you don't make $90,000 per year, you don't pay the  maximum into the system, so guess what?  You don't get the maximum benefit when you are 65 years old.
 
3.) That the  money the participants elected to put into  the Program would be deductible from their  income for tax purposes each year, No longer tax deductible  
 
4.) That the money the participants put into the independent 'Trust  Fund' rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to  fund the Social Security Retirement Program and no other Government program. Under Johnson the money was moved  to the General Fund and spent.
 
5.) That the  annuity payments to the retirees would never  be taxed as income. Under  Clinton & Gore up to 85% of your  Social Security can be taxed.  
 
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a  Social Security check every month -- And  then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of  the money we paid to the Federal government  to 'put away -- you may be interested in the  following:

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent 'Trust Fund'  and put it into the
    General fund so that  Congress could spend it?
A: It was  Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically controlled House and Senate.  
 
Q: Which Political Party eliminated the  income tax deduction for Social Security  (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic  Party.

Q: Which Political Party started taxing  Social Security annuities?
 
A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting  the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the  US.
 
Q: Which Political  Party decided to start giving annuity  payments to immigrants?
A: That's right!   Jimmy Carter and  the Democratic Party.  Immigrants moved into  this country, and at age 65,  began to  receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to  them, even though they never paid a dime  into it!
 
Then, after violating the original  contract (FICA), the Democrats turn  around and tell you that the  
Republicans want to take your Social Security away!   Now who's  BSing who?  And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!  
 
If enough people read this, maybe a seed of  awareness will be planted  and maybe changes will
evolve. Maybe not, some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn't so. But it's worth a try.

For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. " (KJV).           sounds like a christmas tree to me...........THUS says the Lord does that mean anything to you?? learn not the way of the heathen and our customs are in vain...all i ask is just think about it. Let me get this straight, the poor, the ones who cannot afford health insurance now  will face penaltys for being poor and unable to afford health insurance.
 The fine on the uninsured of 2.5 percent of their income if they don't buy insurance 2.5? this is after you have alread taken 8 to 12 percent from the poor for a subsidy?
  The low level of subsidy available for the uninsured (ONLY after they pay 8-12 percent of their incomes) 8 to 12 PERCENT? how on earth can somone barely scraping buy even put grocerys on the table at that  rate?
  The possibility of up to five years in prison for failing to buy insurance or pay the fine
  well, at least those of us who can't afford to purchase health insurance will be thrown in jail as a debtor and will receive  FREE healthcare from the govt for five years, plus, food, clothing, and shelter. 
  so, essentially the poor will be forced to pay up to 14.5%  of their income back to the  federal govt or face going to jail for being poor ?  its time to let washington know this is not acceptable in any way. as  SC Senator Jim DeMint once said to  Obama, "YOU LIE!".

In later centuries, bells were rung on Christmas Eve to welcome in the spirit of Christmas with joyful noise (Psalm 95:1). When Christians enjoy the beauty of a glorious bell choir ringing Christmas carols, we are reminded of the coming of Jesus into the world, not the driving out of evil spirits.

Similarly, there was an early pagan tradition of lighting candles to drive away the forces of cold and darkness. However, is it likely that our hearts are drawn to those early pagans rather than rejoicing in our Savior, the Light of the World (John 1:4-9) as we light candles? Of course not. Nor is it likely that when I give gifts to my loved ones at Christmas, the gifts will have less significance to either of us because some Druid somewhere in time offered a gift to his goat as part of some pagan ritual. No, we remember, as we should, the gifts given to the Christ-child by the Magi (Matthew 2:11). Jesus was the greatest gift ever given, and therefore His birth is worthy of celebration.

So obscure are the beginnings of many Christmas traditions that reference books and internet sites contradict one another on the details. Some of our most popular and beloved Christmas symbols are entirely Christian, and were never part of any pagan religion anywhere. At the same time, some Christmas traditions undoubtedly do have their origins in the pagan past. What is important is not the origins of traditions, but their significance to us today as believers in the Son of God. December 25 was not mentioned in the biblical narrative as the day Jesus was born, and, as such, we cannot be dogmatic about it one way or the other. But even if the date is completely wrong, there is still the opportunity for thousands of people who wouldn’t go to church any other time of the year to go on Christmas day and hear the gospel of Christ.

If you are fully convinced that you cannot, in good conscience, observe a particular Christmas tradition, do not observe it. If you are fully convinced that a particular tradition is too steeped in paganism to honor God in any way, by all means forsake that tradition. At the same time, if you are fully convinced that you can honor and worship God through a particular tradition, honor and worship God (Romans 14:5)! For Christians, Christmas traditions can be an important part of the celebration of the birth of our Savior, and they remind us of that momentous event that changed the world forever. More importantly, they bring to mind the miracle of new birth He created in us when He came into our hearts, saved us from our sins, and made us children of God by the shedding of His blood on the Cross (Colossians 1:20). It is this amazing truth that enables us to say with the angels, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:14).

Here we are nearing the Christmas season.  The Christ Child is a symbol of love, life, hope and peace that makes this such a joyful season for TRUE BELIEVERS.  Not so for some members of Mt. Canaan Church. It seems most members of this House of Worship have an agenda for hate, discontent and revenge even at this most Holy season.  Contrary to the order issued by Judge R. Knox McMahon on October 12, 2009,  Tuesday night at a call meeting a majority of the members present voted to oust four members and their spouses from the chruch.  Apparently, Rev. Brightharp could not be present atthe called meeting but "no worries", if the Rev. can't do it the Pope can! The Rev. Alex Pope that is.
These four ousted members (spouses included) were told that they will not be considered for membership for a minimum of three years.  After three years, according to a motion made by a woman (not necessarily working for the Lord) they must make a confession and repent to the church, Rev. Brightharp, the Pope or whoever is on the pulpit at that time.  If they grovel enough they might be reinstated as members.  However, they will never be allowed to hold office.  Robert Mullins, attorney for the church, told the congregation that they do not have to abide by Judge McMahon's court order and they quickly took advantage of his obvious lack of respect for the law.  Have you ever heard of such a travesty especially in a church.  To the four excommunicated members and their spouses, rest assured there is a power higher than any of those who rise against you and know that he has you in his hands and them in his sights.  Take your love of Christ and your tithing to a real church with a Pastor who is not self serving but serves God.

Here are just some of the provisions of the health care bill which Nancy Pelosi and her  gang of vote buyers in the house voted for.  notably:

1.  The $400 billion cut in Medicare

2.  The inevitable scarcity that will result from the addition of 35 million new patients with no new doctors or nurses

3.  The fine on the uninsured of 2.5 percent of their income if they don't buy insurance

4.  The high cost of these mandatory insurance policies ($15,000 per family)

5.  The low level of subsidy available for the uninsured (ONLY after they pay 8-12 percent of their incomes)

6.  The likelihood of a $1,700 increase in the average family's premiums

7.  The possibility of up to five years in prison for failing to buy insurance or pay the fine

8.  The taxation of medical devices like pacemakers, wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs, hearing aids, etc.

9.  The tax on sick people (increasing the threshold for deducting medical expenses from 7.5 percent to 10 percent of income.

10. The additional fiscal burden on the states of the increase in Medicaid eligibility

11. The 40 percent tax on health insurance premiums that will affect households earning more than $75,000 by the fifth year of the plan.

Of course they use our tax dollars to purchase votes with.

I was at the basketball game last night and it was very bad i mean VERY BAD, they (Thurmond) only had 9 players now do the math they had 15 players on the team last year only 2 seniors that went onto other things and that should leave you with 13 coming back well that's not true,only 8 came back where are the players at because they could have used them last night she only wanted to play the only ones she liked. She ran those poor kids to death one of the kids took her self out of the game because her and the coach had a few words. If you were at the game you would have seen them playing like they needed a break but she said no get out there, that not a good thing to do when you only going to play 6 of the 9 players. The thing that bothered me the most was the way she talked the young ladies on the team and that's what they are not machines if you treat people right they will work for you. Have any body said anything to the coach about where are the other players at NO but i have talked to some parents and they said she treated the kids like dirt last year.She had one person shooting and the others playing defence now the other players will not shoot the ball and now she is mad why get mad at them get mad  at yourself because you mad them like that.

A teacher asked her 6th grade class how many of them were Obama fans.  Not really knowing  what an Obama fan is, but wanting to be liked by the teacher, all the kids  raised their hands except for Little Johnny.   The  teacher asked Little Johnny why he has decided to be different...again.

I just heard that the “gutless and biased” Republicans and Democrats in Columbia, SC have refused to pursue impeachment proceedings against Gov. Mark Sanford !  Could there be anymore “hypocrites” in our government of South Carolina ?!  Could there be anymore of a reason for South Carolina to be a laughing-stock ?!  I would be willing to guaranty that these same “two-faced” Republicans; that are letting Sanford off-the-hook; were yelling FOR the impeachment of Pres. Bill Clinton and the former  Gov.  of  New York State !

I am mostly a Democrat, BUT I TRY VERY, VERY INTENTLY TO BE FAIR AND UN-BIASED.  Having said that; however; I truly believe that this TERRIBLY, TERRIBLY WRONG decision to let Gov. I guess if you and your family members were in a wreck you'd want only two people showing up? I drove up right after it happened before the ambulance or the fire dept got there. People were running out of their houses with blankets and nobody knew what to do. I'm not afraid to say I was scared and felt helpless. Then the ambulance got there and the (Merriwether) fire dept got there and it was amazing to see how calm and professional everybody was. They desreve a pat on the back not a kick in the (rear).

Below is the current price of the CPI as of 12/07/09 and the percentage above or below it's (E)xponential (M)oving (A)verage for the number of days indicated.  People on SS are losing buying power daily, but they don't need a raise, according to the elected imbeciles in Washington, however they WILL have to pay more for Medicare benefits .  Congress receives a YEARLY pay raise automatically and FREE medical insurance, but they don't have to pay into the SS system.  They are much to good to be placed in the same  system with common folks. It's a free ride for them ON OUR DIME for the rest of their life.  Isn't it nice when you can vote for your own benefits?  There are a lot of people out there that don't have a clue about any of that and will keep voting for the crooks for reasons that defy logic. I don't know how you cope with ignorance unless voters are required to pass an IQ test, or at least a quiz on current events before being allowed to vote. And oh yeah, those that receive SS benefits must pay income tax on that pittance.  You can thank Al Gore for that. That tax law was implemented along party lines with Gore casting the tie breaking vote FOR the tax when he was VP.  Democrats love taking your hard earned money from you.

Comments made by either of the two were not made to be offensive, and if taken that way i do sincerely apologize. i think i came back and made that clear but if not , again i am sorry. I read the parade news and it bothered me to know you did not do your homework when it came to the name of the grand marshall.  Her name is Essie Nicholson.  This was definitely not Essie Mae Washington ( Senator Strom Thurmond's daughter).   Please check your listings.

First, Dick Cheney didn't become a businessman until he got out of government after Desert Storm. He became CEO of Halliburton and used his political influence (along with kickbacks and bribes) to secure gov't contracts from the very same people he worked with in gov't (same as lobbying, but got paid millions for it). He started working in gov't in 1969 after taking 6 years to graduate college and after 5 deferments from the draft. In 1989, The Washington Post writer George C. Wilson interviewed Cheney as the next Secretary of Defense; when asked about his deferments, Cheney reportedly said, "I had other priorities in the '60s than military service". Cheney was a businessman man until he had enough clout to become a lobbyist for gov't contracts for Halliburton.
Second, Tom Delay is awaiting an indictment for money laundering and if he wasn't guilty, why did he resign from the Congress.
Third, Dick Armey is suing the federal gov't to get out of paying Medicare premiums; while, he is leading the protests of the Tea Baggers to make sure that Medicare cuts do not take place. Why is he suing so he doesn't have to pay and then protesting cuts to Medicare.

The Edgefield Christmas parade was well attended, unfortunately the two emcees should have stayed at home. The banter was ridiculous and childish. They should have played Christmas carols to take up time. I find it interesting that while both were TRYING to encourage shopping in Edgefield, a few county businesses were slammed with derogatory remarks by Mr. Henderson. Certainly with a year until the next parade the organizers could find someone else to do his job.

How many people does it take to work a wreck? I saw the pictures from the wreck on Currytown Rd this past saturday that had five patients injured now I would like to know why there are people just standing next to the car and around it with there hands in there pocket? Ive been in the EMS field for many years and one thing that EMT's can not stand is people just standing around getting in the way. If your gonna be on scene you need to help and if we ask you to help or get something for us we appreciate if you do, if you give us some stupid reason why you cant help then you need to leave the scene. In the fourth picture there is a patient on the ground with only on person treating them and three people standing around watching the other two bring the stretcher up tell me whats wrong with that picture? EMS is thankful to have the fire department to work along side with but neither service needs extra first responders or whoever standing around not helping

Editor's note: There were five persons being treated by teams of three to four people each (15 to 20 emergency personnel). As each person was immobilized and placed in the ambulances, First Responders would go to the other teams to offer any aid needed. No photos were taken until at least three of the injured were already in ambulances. The last picture was of those working on the driver, Emmanuel Alejardro Sanchez, who was uninjured but trasported due to the severity of the crash. He was booked later in the day for felony DUI in the crash.

I read the story about the wreck on Currytown (Rd). How many does that make? A bunch I know! I feel so sorry for the kids who were just innocents in the car. Then I saw where they were (Hispanics) and didn't speack english. Hmmmm does that mean we get to pick up their medical bills? Nobody turned then down for "healthcare" MR. OBAMA!! Then to top it off the man was DRUNK!!!!!!! BIG suprise there! Every week I read the crime blotter and the mexican names are always dui, no driver's license, no insurance, ect, ect, ect....

  The Democrat Party is made up of lawyers.  Democrats mock and scorn men who create wealth, like Bush and Cheney, or who heal the sick, like Frist, or who immerse themselves in history, like Gingrich.

  The Lawyers' Party sees these sorts of people, who provide goods and services that people want, as the enemies of America.  And, so we have seen the procession of official enemies, in the eyes of the Lawyers' Party, grow.

  Against whom do Hillary and Obama rail?  Pharmaceutical companies, oil companies, hospitals, manufacturers, fast food restaurant chains, large retail businesses, bankers, and anyone producing anything of value in our nation.

  This is the natural consequence of viewing everything through the eyes of lawyers.  Lawyers solve problems by successfully representing their clients, in this case the American people.  Lawyers seek to have new laws passed, they seek to win lawsuits, they press appellate courts to overturn precedent, and lawyers always parse language to favor their side.

  Confined to the narrow practice of law, that is fine.  But it is an awful way to govern a great nation.  When politicians as lawyers begin to view some Americans as clients and other Americans as opposing parties, then the role of the legal system in our life becomes all-consuming.  Some Americans become "adverse parties" of our very government.  We are not all litigants in some vast social class-action suit.  We are citizens of a republic that promises us a great deal of freedom from laws, from courts, and from lawyers.

  We cannot expect the Lawyers' Party to provide real change, real reform or real hope in America  Most Americans know that a republic in which every major government action must be blessed by nine unelected judges is not what Washington intended in 1789.  Most Americans grasp that we
cannot fight a war when ACLU lawsuits snap at the heels of our defenders.  Most Americans intuit that more lawyers and judges will not restore declining moral values or spark the spirit of enterprise in our
economy.

  Perhaps Americans will understand that change cannot be brought to our nation by those lawyers who already largely dictate American society and business.  Perhaps Americans will see that hope does not come from the mouths of lawyers but from personal dreams nourished by hard work.
Perhaps Americans will embrace the truth that more lawyers with more power will only make our problems worse..

  The United States has 5% of the world's population and 66% of the world's lawyers! Tort (Legal) reform legislation has been introduced in congress several times in the last several years to limit punitive damages in ridiculous lawsuits such as "spilling hot coffee on yourself and suing the establishment that sold it to you" and also to limit punitive damages in huge medical malpractice lawsuits. This legislation has continually been blocked from even being voted on by the Democrat
Party. When you see that 97% of the political contributions from the American Trial Lawyers Association goes to the Democrat Party, then you realize who is responsible for our medical and product costs being so high!

Thank you for the information on the Calliham building. It is so sad to see the real workings of this county. I guess to people who only know this kind of system, it is normal or they figure there is no way to change it. There are places where people are held accountable for wrong actions. I guess Edgefield county is not one of those places. Greed and the desire for power are ugly things and they hurt a lot of innocent people. Lies will come back to bite you. Seems like we see all of that in this community. Hopefully, those in the wrong will get their due. They will one day, when they face their Maker.

Editor's note: The problem is we (taxpayers) will get stuck with the bill. The $1.2 million left after insurance money ($625,000) runs out. Total cost is projected at $1.7 to $1.9 million.

The ice machine was installed and put up by an independent businessman in Edgefield. What made you believe that it had anything to do with stimulus money? How does it work anyway? Do u have to bring your own bag? Can u fill up a cooler for a set fee, or does it work like the car wash where it is on a timer?

Editor's note: I would assume it works the same as the ones in Merriwether that I am familiar with. You can get a bag of ice (bag provided) or use the "bulk" side to fill a cooler. I do not know the prices on the new one in Edgefield, but the ones around the south end of the county are a great value and cheaper than buying it from bags in a cooler (for the same amount of ice).

Twas the night before the Carolina/Clemson game…and all through the South the Tigers were winning and running their mouth.

Spiller was nestled all snug in his bed while visions of Heisman danced in his head.
He dreamed Dabo was smiling and Spurrier throwing his cap, but it was only a dream, and he would soon awaken from his nap.

Now down at Williams-Brice there arose such a call, hey there Clemson this is SEC Football.
He started off great and flew like a flash, he ran to the end zone; what a great dash.
The Gamecocks were nervous at the sight below but we hoped for a fight and for a good show.

All of a sudden, the Tigers fought and they clawed and they whined but it was never enough since they were always behind.
Spurrier just laughed as his team kicked Tiger tail and we could see that poor Dabo just wanted to wail.

More rapid than eagles, Garcia’s henchmen they came, and he whistled and shouted and called them by name; 

Now Jeffrey, now Gilmore now Auguste and Miles! On Norwood on Culliver on Lanning and Giles!

To the end zone let’s fly, let’s hold them back, let’s kick afar… let’s show them what’s up, let’s set the bar!
As done in ’06 the Tigers stood shocked, but the Gamecocks just cheered and knew it was locked.

So down on the field the fans all ran fast, the poor Tigers, their tears just flooded the grass.
The Gamecocks had won as we all knew they would do, now the Tigers believe it and Dabo does too.

This story’s not over, there are still games to play. The Tigers to Tampa on a December Day.
They will meet with Georgia Tech and fight for the title, too bad the ACC can’t compete with their SEC rival.

Just out of curiosity, how does Edgefield County plan on using an emergency preparedness/mass casualty trailer with four flat tires? I tend to wonder what else on the trailer is dilapidated or out of date. Guess we're too busy talking on the radio to make sure things in operable condition. Glad the radio system works great in your part of the county!

For the man that molested that baby, 30 months in jail is an insult to our justice system, the Judge should have to serve 30 months with him. Life in prison would be just a gift. That "@#$%^&*:" sould be buried under the jail, after he has been set free, and  is required to stand on town square just before sunset, holding a sign that says he raped a child.

Re: The comparison of Halliburton to ACORN is laughable.

I don't call $15 billion in fraudulent charges to the US gov't laughable. Neither do I call the senseless deaths of US soldiers laughable either. Halliburton/KBR installed shoddy electric wiring in many buildings in Iraq that US soliders live. At least 12 have died from being electrocuted while taking showers in these facilities that contain this shoddy electrical work, and even more have been injured from fires that were caused by electrical fires in other facilities that Halliburton/KBR constructed. Dick Cheney was the CEO of Halliburton, and resigned so that he could become the V-Pres nominee. He secured the NO-Bid contracts that Halliburton/KBR received when the US embarked on the war on terrorism. What the US gov't needs to do and should do is bring back the draft. Let more US citizens sacrifice, like today's soldiers' families sacrifice and we'll see how long the war on terrorism lasts.

Editor's note: Obama sent too few troops far too late and never mentioned victory in his speach about the troops. He did, however, praise the muslims that oppose the US. Big surprise, he said in his book that he would do just that if elected. At least he gives support to his fellow supporters and remains consistent.

Maybe you are putting your trust in people and not God. I think you would have more peace in your life if you start counting your blessings and stop feeling sorry for yourself. Get out and talk to people. God is still in control. But He is a jealous God. Maybe you loved Bush and Cheney a little too much. I have cash but I also have faith. My cash did not come from Johnny Cash or Bob Hope. If you have cash, I am purely sure yours didn’t come from them either. The money we have spent on the two wars that Bush started is our problem and what has thrown us in such a high deficit. And believe me, your cash left long before President Obama took office. Recession started long before the election. It just took a little longer to “trickle down to the middle class. That’s the Republican’s “trickle down economy”.

Well…..a couple of years ago the residents of Edgefield County waited with the anticipation and excitement of children the night before Christmas awaiting the results of our Chamber of Commerce and the revealing of the secret “Normandy Project.”  Then recently, with the announcement of “Obama Stimulus” money in order to “stimulate” the economy, residents of Edgefield  wondered and pondered “what will we get?” in order to promote industry and produce jobs here in Edgefield.  Then each day, in front of Bi-Lo I saw ground being broke, concrete being laid and utilities being prepared for new business. Wow! I thought, this will be great….new industry to Edgefield.  This week, I thought, perhaps there will be a grand opening…then I saw it, like an oasis in the desert….Edgefield’s new industry….right in front of the nice looking Bi-lo Shopping Center…..A big, automatic Penguin Ice Machine!  I’m sure the Obama administration will figure that has saved about 100 Edgefield County jobs….and that of the person who empties the coins from the change machine.  What an eyesore to a nice looking little shopping area.  I didn’t realize ice was such a critical commodity here in Edgefield.

Ok, maybe one Trenton Firemen was in route before the call was dispatched, but that's probably because he's a Deputy and heard it on his Sheriff radio. Also, if there weren't any injuries involved, why did Sheriffs Deputies have to request EMS respond to check the victim due to chest pain?

On a separate note, It's nice of Edgefield County to purchase the Fire and EMS radio systems for Mike Casey to use as a personal cell phone. Seriously Mike, give EMS or the other emergency personnel the pertinant information only. Stop trying to carry on a one sided conversation tying up the airwaves. If I were to transcribe just one of your transmissions, I probably wouldn't be able to post it here in Wandering Minds due to the 250 word limit.

Editor's post: Well it looks like somebody has been a bad boy and someone else let the cat out of the bag that wasn't supposed to do so. It sort of reminds me of a Beach Boys song. Within the past few days we received phone calls that I would  guarantee are scams.  First phone call was from a foreign speaking person stating he just arrived in the states and was at the airport.  He said he had several million dollars (US dollars) with him and he wanted to make me his beneficiary.  I laughed, told him he would have to find someone else to scam and hung up.  Two minutes later he called again and stated the same thing but began by saying someone told him I was a good person and would handle this for him.  He wanted my e-mail address.  I responded by hanging up.  Second incident was today.  This morning the same thing happened with a different approach.   Foreign speaking person asking to talk with my husband (called him by name)  I told him my husband was not available..  He wanted to know when he would be home so he could call back.  I asked him who he was, where he was calling from and what he wanted.  Reluctantly he gave me a name (I could not understand) and said he was calling from the bank.  I asked what bank and he said something about the world bank in London.  He then asked for my husband by name again and asked to speak with him.  I told him he could not speak with him and hung up.  Again this evening he called again asked to speak with my husband who answered the phone and gave him the same speil.  I called the phone company and was told I needed to report this to my local authorities.   I'm sure Sheriff Dobey has nothing better to do than track these calls.  I am choosing to inform everyone about this situation.  While we responded appropriately others may be caught off guard.  Please be sure you do not give out any information to anyone you do not know.  If you have elderly parents or young children, warn them.

Editor's note: You should still contact the Sheriff's Office and provide them with the information and the phone numbers if you have caller ID. Chances are they are overseas and there would be nothing law enforcement can do, but they do need to have the information so it can be shared with other agencies.

Thanks much for the quotes from our (County) Council Chairman.  They helped me understand why he was one of the ones picked by the 'manipulators' to do their bidding.  It is easy to manipulate a simpleton because they will believe whatever is told to them.  The simpleton is also often unaware of his own limitations and assumes that all others are less intelligent and thus will believe anything the simpleton tells THEM.  I wonder if he will ever realize he is being used like a simple garden tool.
I am so sad that so many fine people in Edgefield have to endure such but I am confused about how some folks continue to hold office in spite of such blatant incompetence.
I had planned on returning to live in Edgefield County but may have to look elsewhere as it appears that over the years things have not improved but gotten worse.  I can only hope that between now and my retirement time, things will take a dramatic turn.  Keep up the good fight, Mr. Blackwell. !!!  If I can be of any assistance from over here, please, do not hesitate to call.

I have to agree that he got off very light considering the serious nature of the charges against him.  However, a plea deal was reached which dropped two of the charges and allowed Renew to plead guilty to a lessor charge.  I would hazard a guess that the plea deal was accepted in order to protect the victim.  Having to testify and be questioned about sexual abuse in a courtroom is difficult for an adult, let alone a child.  I am very disappointed that a harsher sentence was not handed down by Judge Keesley.  Then again, I am not surprised by his leniency.

Hey editor, Mr. Kneece did what all politicians do, he sucker punched you.  He didn't lie he changed his mind - he just didn't tell anyone before hand so that was a sucker punch.  Many citizens of the county including myself have experienced a sucker punch from all 3 of those council people.  See you don't complain until too late if you think they are going to vote the way you want them to in representing you.  Maybe you should do a survey to see how many citizens have been the victim of these political correct suckerpunches.  You forgot to mention, Mr. Kneece told you he didn't like the figures he was given on the Calliham building renovations so he had them changed.  Wonder what got left off or (changed) to meet the figure Kneece wanted?  Look for the change orders to begin as soon as construction begins.
 
Dorn wants a bathroom NOW.   How many people are going to benefit from the taxpayers spending at least $17,000 for the septic system plus cost for a building which has to be done first.   Do they have a plan  for this park beyond the need to get something for nothing?  Concession money not accounted for?  The taxpayers are paying for the concession stand and all the improvements at these parks why shouldn't we expect the funds to be accounted for.  Simple, when food and supplies are purchased get a receipt (can still be done by the same people).  When food is sold put the money in a specific account then you use that money for more food and supplies or other recreation needs.  That is how accounting works.  The only difference is that you are holding someone accountable and being above board with the funds.

Editor's note: There is no county recreation currently, or planned to be, held at the Northside Park. It is used almost exclusively by the Liberty Springs Church for their functions. They own the land.

The clip started in 2007 when the recession first started. If you take the time to study the clip, you will notice that once the bottom dropped unemployment begins its rise. I should also draw your attention to the areas that were facing high unemployment of 6% or higher in 2007. As the recession grew, more jobs were lost. It took Bush 6 years to get us in this shape and I don’t see why we expect President Obama to get us out in 11 months. I will admit he is a very intelligent person; but he’s not God. Only God could create that miracle. And God is probably wondering why we let this happen for eight years and still crying "we want Bush". More jobs would have been lost without the stimulus. More people would be out of work without the stimulus. Edgefield has been able to hold on to most of their businesses but other counties are losing businesses. Count your blessings. It could have been worse. Remember we were in a  “RECESSION”.

The comparison of Halliburton to ACORN is laughable.  Halliburton is really old news and if it were really an issue don't you think this administration would have dealt with it? Cheney has been out of office for some time now and has no power. ACORN has power and is tied to the hip of our president, who is in office and does have power.  ACORN influences elections, among the many other corrupt things they do. As a taxpayer, I don't want a dime of my money going to an organization like that. Do you?

Editor's post: So County Council Chairman Monroe Kneece wants to attack rather than answer legitimate questions brought forward from the estimates he gave to the pubic regarding the Calliham purchase. Okay, you give us numbers, you then vote on numbers that conflict with the released numbers, and when questions are raised you attack rather than justify your decision. I just have to ask, did your master not give you talking points on how to counter questions? Or are you just so mad that anyone would even dare to ask you to explain the inconsistencies that you have to go off on a rant?

Here's a suggestion. Answer the questions. It's not hard unless you are trying desperatly to hide the fact you are being controlled by a "higher power".  Did the "puppet master" not give you all the info you needed to counter factual questions or were you just incapable of addressing the questions without his permission? We have the best county council money can buy. More "change" you can believe in from the Democrat majority led by Chairman Monroe Kneece.

I have a rant. I have a neighbor that was sent to jail for selling drugs this year. I don't condone selling drugs, but he got around 8 years in jail. That;s fine, But then I read where this (Myron) Renew guy got 2 and a half years for mollesting a 6 year old kid. How (screwed up) is that? What the (removed) is going on? HELLO!!!!!!!! He raped a little kid!!!!!!!!!!! He admitted to it and he walks with a slap on the hand?

Gee, the Calliham thing will probably go through. What a surprise. The majority of the council that are voting for this are either very scared or just not too intelligent-maybe both. These people that are pushing for this are so proud of Edgefield and its glorious history. From what I have read and seen first hand, there is not too much to be proud of (past and present)--a lot of bullying, intimidation, good ole boy scenario, stubbornness etc. It was that way in the past and continues today. How sad for the rest of us. How will Edgefield (county) ever grow to be better if this kind of stuff keeps happening? The sane people in this county have to vote and get smarter, more forward thinking people into office.

If what you say is true how can the county council vote to buy the (Calliham) property and claim it is not going to cost more than the insurance money? I think you are wrong and just don't llike Mr. Calliham.

Editor's note: J. P. Calliham does not own the property anymore. The original terms included him paying at least $2,000 a month for rental of the property - that just went away somewhere in the deal. In otherwords, we are paying off his debt with your tax dollars. It's all about fixing problems of those in the Edgefield "click" with your money. It just goes to show we have the best majority of the Edgefield County Council that money can buy. Of course, buying it with your money.

This morning, from a cave somewhere in Afghanistan, Taliban Minister of Migration, Mohammed Alibaba Ockmed, warned the United States that, if military actions against radical Muslims continues, Taliban authorities intend to cut off America's supply of 7-11 and Motel 6 Managers.  If this action does not yield sufficient results, cab drivers will be next, followed by DELL, AT&T and AOL customer service representatives.

Finally, if all else fails, they have threatened not to send us any more candidates for President either.

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.
2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.
4. There is great need for a "arcasm" font.
