Man escapes serious injury in violent crash

web posted February 22, 2007

WESTSIDE – An Edgefield County man escaped serious injury in a mid-day crash on West Martintown Road Wednesday around noon. While traveling west the man lost control of the Honda sedan and left the eastbound side of the road and continued down a steep embankment. The car then began to flip and went up another embankment before coming to rest upside down in the tree line.

A passerby stopped and took the young man to the nearby fire station and was later transported by a personal vehicle to an area hospital for treatment. The 18 year old Georgia Road man was said to have suffered a punctured lung and possible rib fractures.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the crash and the driver will face a charge of too fast for conditions.

The young man was said to have not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. In the first two months of 2007 in South Carolina there have been 101 fatalities as a result of collisions through February 20, of those 61 were not wearing a seat belt. In 2006 there were 105 traffic deaths for the year.

Two other minor crashes were reported Wednesday in addition to a
n early morning car fire in Johnston. No injuries were involved in any of the other incidents.
