 One man dead in early morning crash web posted December 22, 2008  WESTSIDE – One man
is dead after a
horrific early morning crash on Garrett Road that has closed off the
roadway as State Troopers investigate the death. The head-on collision
occurred around 8 am and Westside and Merriwether First Responders and
EMS rushed to the scene to discover one man uninjured and a second
deceased.How the crash happened is still under investigation, however, indications from the scene place a Chevrolet Silverado truck on Garrett Road near the 300 block when it collided with an unknown model small pickup truck. It is unknown at this time the direction of travel of the two trucks. The crash scene was located in one of the many curves on the road.  The driver of the
Chevy was suffering from only minor injuries and was
treated on the scene. A dog that was in the back of the truck in a
kennel was also slightly injured.The identity of the second driver was not released and fire crews were awaiting permission to remove the body from the wreckage. Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett was also summoned to the scene. Garrett Road is expected to be closed for several hours as the fatality is investigated. This is the seventh fatality in Edgefield County this year.  ©
