 Edgefield County man identified in fatal crash web posted December 23, 2008  WESTSIDE – The
identity of an Edgefield
County man killed in a horrific head on collision has been released.
Kevin Brown, 20, of Bob White Lane, was pronounced dead on the scene
Monday morning by Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett. Brown died
instantly in the crash.The Garrett Road crash scene was under investigation throughout most of day Monday as South Carolina Highway Patrol brought in their accident reconstruction team to document the wreckage. Traffic was not allowed through the area until mid afternoon when the scene was cleared. Very little information has been released but it is believed that Mr. Brown was traveling west on Garrett Road in a Chevrolet S10 pickup when he collided with an eastbound Chevrolet Z71 extended cab Silverado driven by a Martinez, Georgia, man in a curve near Carey Hill Baptist Church. The driver of the Silverado suffered only minor injuries including a bloody nose. He was wearing a seatbelt and the truck’s airbags deployed in the crash. It was not known if Mr. Brown was wearing a seatbelt and officials on the scene said, “It wouldn’t matter either way,” due to the extreme damage inflicted on the small pickup. Debris from the wreckage covered well over fifty yards. No charges against the surviving driver had been filed at the time of this report; however the scene was still under investigation and charges could be pending. Mr. Brown was a 2007 graduate of Strom Thurmond High School. His death marks the seventh fatality on Edgefield County roads this year.
