Tech Tips
Windows 7 launches tomorrow

TECH TIPS – Windows 7, the next version of
Microsoft’s “Windows” Operating system is set to launch tomorrow
(Thursday, October 22nd). Windows 7 includes the user interface
enhancements from Vista as well as some extra features like a brand new
taskbar. Windows 7 should also run better and faster than Vista and
address some of the complaints people had about the operating system.
My experience with the beta version and the comments I’ve heard about
it have been pretty positive. If you are interested in upgrading to
Windows 7, stay tuned because it will be the subject of a tech tip
within the next few weeks after I upgrade my system and have some more
time to use it. Until then, read on for a few links you might want to
checkout:
If you are running Vista, I think it’s fair to say that you can run
Windows 7. Many older systems may be able to run Windows 7 as well. If
you want to confirm compatibility, checkout
this link.
Here’s a very informative story about Windows 7 from one of my favorite
sites. This story includes links to other stores including LifeHacker’s
“top ten things to look forward to in Windows 7”. http://lifehacker.com/5385127/
If you are a college student and are looking for a deal on Windows 7,
you might want to checkout this site where there is extra information
and a deal on Windows 7for $30: http://www.win741.com/
Note that this deal doesn’t apply to me so I didn’t try it and can’t
vouch for it.
I normally recommend waiting to upgrade for a little while so you can
see what the reaction is from other people. However, if you go ahead
and upgrade, just remember to have a good backup! I recommend making an
image backup first (see http://www.edgefielddaily.com/wisetechtips051809.html).
If you upgrade or plan to and have something to share, please email me (EdgefieldTechHelp@gmail.com)
so I can share your thoughts with others in my column.
