Update the Alt-Tab Program Switcher
By James Wise
web
posted October 26, 2009
TECH TIPS – If you run more than one
program at a time, I’m sure you are familiar with holding down the ALT
key and hitting TAB to cycle between programs. This is a really useful
keystroke but you can make it even better with a great free program
called VistaSwitcher (and despite the name, it also works with XP and
Windows 7).
First, go ahead and open a few programs and see what you get when you
use ALT TAB. Now, here’s what you see when you hit ALT TAB with
VistaSwitcher:

All the programs you are running are shown on the right hand side. As
you continue holding the ALT key, you can hit TAB to cycle between
programs. When you do this, a large preview of that window is shown to
the left. If you release the ALT key, you’ll switch to that program.
With VistaSwitcher, you can also use CTRL ALT TAB to cycle between
windows of a running program. For example, if I press CTRL ALT TAB, I
can switch between the two windows of Word that I have open:

To read more about VistaSwitcher and download it, go to: http://www.ntwind.com/software/vistaswitcher.html
The program runs in the background with an icon in your systray (the
area to the left of the Windows clock at the bottom of the screen). You
can right click the icon to change preferences (like whether or not
VistaSwitcher automatically starts when you restart your computer) or
close the program. So, if you want to go back to the normal Windows
ALT-TAB screen, all you have to do is close VistaSwitcher.
Installation and use is pretty straightforward but if you need any
assistance, just email me at: EdgefieldTechHelp@gmail.com.
