  Turn off New Program Highlight in Windows XP/Vista/7 Start Menu By James Wise web posted November 3, 2009 TECH TIPS – Today’s tip is a quick tip for disabling something I find annoying. Whenever you install new programs, Windows highlights this fact when clicking the start menu. This might be a useful addition to some but with all the programs I install, I don’t like the highlighting. Luckily, it’s very easy to turn this on or off from the start menu properties page. Windows XP: Right click on start menu, choose properties, click customize button, click advanced tab, uncheck “Highlight newly installed programs”  Windows Vista/7 Right click on start menu, choose properties, click customize button, click advanced tab, scroll down and uncheck “Highlight newly installed programs” © Copyright 2009
