First Fatality in 445 Days Reported Early Sunday Morning

WESTSIDE Edgefield County has a fatality in a single vehicle crash on the 100 block of Cold Springs Road that was reported early Sunday morning around 12:25 am. Shortly after EMS and Deputies arrived a call went out to summon the Coroner's Office to the scene.


According to Deputy Coroner David Burnett, the male driver of a pickup left the roadway and struck several trees before coming to rest. He was pronounced dead on the scene from several injuries received in the crash, Burnett said. His identity has not been released pending notification of family members.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol arrived and took over the investigation around 1:30 am.
SCDOT was called to remove a tree partially blocking the roadway.

This marks the first fatality in Edgefield County in well over a year, 445 days to be precise. The were no fatalities in the county in all of 2013. The last fatality took place on December 11, 2012.
