Boat, Trailer Stolen from Hospitalized Westside Man

web posted September 18, 2012

WESTSIDE – The neighbor of a Westside man who is currently being treated at the Edgefield County Hospital has been a strong witness in the theft of a fishing boat and trailer stolen from his neighbor's property on September 7, but was not reported stolen until September 14. The witness has been able to identify the two men he says he saw take the boat.

Deputies spoke with the owner at the hospital who said the boat was parked under a shed on his property. The boat is a blue "Skeeter" with a 50HP Evenrude motor and is valued at $2,000. The trailer is black in color and a value was not provided.

The neighbor said he saw a white male and a black male pull up in a blue and silver Chevrolet and hook up to the trailer and pull the boat away around 8 am on September 7, according to the incident report.

The witness was able to provide investigators with the names of the two men he saw and the case is under active investigation. No arrests have been made in the case to date.

The incident report currently lists the crime as a grand larceny, however; with the boat and trailer being kept under a structure a burglary charge is also possible.
